Dr. Cash made my course in Ethics in Science and Technology wayyyyy to hard, especially since its all technical related people in there. Very long essay exam. Did did not prepare us for final.

you can do simple things like going to class all the time, and participating in web discussions... those will help your grade... but he's a very tough grader, and he uses the +/- grading system, so you have to get a flat C for course credit

This guy is really cool. The course material is a little much, but he is very fair. As long as you can prove you know what has been talked about in class, he gives you a good grade. Also, he refuses to wear shoes in class.

Grade is based on two essays and final. Very tough grader. He's a cool guy but if your views don't agree with his, he seems to grade you even harsher. Readings are long and boring, but no one reads them. One of my hardest classes, and I took PHI in HS.

He's a really cool guy. I found the discussions in the class to be interesting and laid back. Graded on two papers and an exam. If you can think for yourself the class should be challenging, but not ridiculously hard either. Recommended.

Your grade is based on two papers and an exam. He makes himself available which is nice and he is a nice guy. But I found his classes to be very monotonous and boring. Each day it was the same thing, read essays and discuss them. Nothing ever changed.

I was very interesed in philosophy,,,until taking this class. I thought the Dr. Cash had a very difficult and unclear grading system. Class became very monotonous. I suggest taking philosophy, but with a different teacher.

Dr. Cash made an ethics class interesting, which I thought could never be done. If you read and participate you'll do fine in this class. He has a cool accent and doesn't wear shoes. :)

he kinda looks like he's from lord of the rings and he walks around barefoot, you have to actually go to class, random quizes, pretty boring material, and you have to write a bunch of 800 word papers

This was the first time I ever took a philosohpy class and was very surprised. Class was always fun and the discussions were very interesting. I didn't find any monotany in class. Ask him why he doesn't wear shoes, and make sure you participate in class and online discussions. Class is hard but fun

This guy is great for the first two weeks, but then it goes downhill. The assignments seem self-explanatory, and aren't very hard, but they take FOREVER to do no matter what. I like that they make you think, but his grading seems a little wonky. There is no set ruberick but classtime itself is great

This was my first philosophy class, and I was impressed. He's a very cool guy but has trouble explaining some concepts. The assignments are very difficult if you don't keep up with the practice problems in the text. Fun class, though.

Dr. Cash was one of my all time favorite professors at UCF. Contrary to some of the reviews, his class was not hard as long as you attend, listen, and try your best. He's one of the most understanding people I've ever met and I like him just as much as a person as well as a teacher. He's fun to listen to because he has a neat accent!

Don't take this guy...unless you like your flawless papers to be re-written and taken down three letter grades b/c you didn't write it like he would have. Truly a nice guy overall, but he's a **** when it comes to how the paper comes out...not in terms of neatness or grammar either...in terms of how he would have written it.

It's not that this course is hard, just that it seems very confusing at first. I was expecting a lot of work from his first-day speech, but it wasn't that bad. Always willing to help and test are pretty simple as they come fairly straight-forward out of the book/online notes. easy course to get a B, a little extra effort gets the A.

It's an alright course. He knows what hes talking about and his grading system is nice. However, it is a philosophy course and if your opinion greatly differs from his, it seems like he grades it harsher.

I really did enjoy the discussions in this class. You must go to class there are random 2 minute papers, a technology report, 5 discussions, 1 midterm and the final and webct discussions...it is somewhat hard to get an A but you can definitely get a B.

Very nice guy. However, the use of class time was a complete bore. There is no point in coming to class b/c he digresses into nothingness. He's very helpful if you ask him for help. The material was fine to learn, but the class time itself was a dread... bore, bore, bore.

Really knows his stuff! Dr. Cash is a great professor. If you put any energy into his courses, you'll find yourself engaged and totally willing to do the work. He's great at explaining everything. Work load is fair and assignments, if you've paid attention in class, aren't too difficult. Great course!

I did his half-online critical thinking class. This class was... retarded. I hated it. I'm very smart,&I had to work very hard for my A-, alot of other kids got horrible grades, he didn't teach in the short time we had and his grading is horrible. Terrible. You'll work incredibly hard on a paper, and youll get a B on a technicality. Don't take him.

By far, one of my favorite professors at UCF. Extremely intelligent and infinitely interesting, every single class broke out into entire room discussions. Topics for this class were very interesting. The online part is not even work, it is just expressing your opinion in a clear and well expressed manner

In my opinion, Professor Cash is a perfect example of professional ineptitude. His class was disorganized, his quiz questions were poorly composed, and his presentations and quizzes are full of spelling and grammatical errors. My grades on webcourses never reflected the grades I earned. My final grade was not accurate and caused a lower GPA.

Pretty straightfoward class. Just do the readings and you should be fine. Only two tests but the questions are pretty much what you get asked in class everyday (iClicker questions). It was an interesting class and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He also has a cool New Zealand accent.

Completely awful. Do NOT take him. I am a straight A student struggling to even get a C. Very technical when grading papers, grades harsher if your views do not match his own. Lecture is useless because he goes off on tangents, and it's impossible to take any notes. I don't understand a single thing he's "taught". HORRIBLE!

I was really looking forward to this class before I took it. I hate Philosophy now. He's an alright teacher, I just feel like he doesn't explain enough. I guess this class is meant for philosphy majors rather than people who are actually interested in cognitive science. Also, the readings are ridiculously long.

Excellent introductory course! Do the reading, it helps toward the clicker questions in class. Exams require some reviewing of the readings and major concepts, but questions are a lot like the clicker questions you get all the time. He will grade harshly if you disagree with him! I got an A by doing all the reading and going to class.

He is such a great teacher! Sooo much fun and great at explaining confusing concepts. He is hilarious and fun and really passionate about the subject. Mostly just readings with clicker attendance questions. Only tests are a midterm and final, but he is really chill about grading and making sure you get the grade you deserve in class. GREAT TEACHER!

How is he getting bad reviews? Go to class, listen, do the reading, and answer the clicker questions, and you'll get an A. He's enthusiastic and obviously fascinated by the subject he teaches. Awesome New Zealander accent. Class is laid-back (he wears no shoes) and interesting. Got a 98 on my paper, and didn't even agree with his views.

Took him in honors and enjoyed the class. Do the readings, show up, act interested, and you should get an A. He is very enthusiastic and makes class interesting in addition to being a fair grader.

Ichose this class because it fulfilled the gordon rule requirement and Mind+Machines sounded like something that would interest me.The reading was extensive and the papers were mostly written by MIT professors so its not something you can just skim. In hindsight, what the course demanded did not match up with my interest for it. ONLY FOR PHI MAJORS

Dr. Cash really is very kind and helpful. Always interested in the student. There is a lot of reading!! He grades papers harshly. The biggest negative is that a lot of the material he pics is rather dull even though he explains it well. Despite that I still recommend him he explains things clearly and again very willing to help students who asks.

Great professor! knowledgable and gives some awesome tv show recommendations if you're into cerebral stuff. Overall, not too difficult. Show up, talk, read the power points and you should get an A. You do need to put some effort into the paper though.

seems great at first...but it does not take too long to realize that he grades views that differ from his own significantly harder than those that are in line with his. has a tendency to rant and ramble, and lacks focus on argumentation. not horrible but not wonderful. there are better professors in the PHI department.

Overall, if you read the assigned reading the night before, the IClicker questions should not be too difficult. If you participate with the discussions online and do what you're supposed to do, it's definitely not hard to earn all the points and maintain an A. However, his tests are difficult! All I can say to you is go over his powerpoints; read!

Dr. Cash is really sweet and gets super excited about philosophy. However, the class seems like a high school course sometimes, as he assigns a lot of discussions and worksheets. You have to read the book to get clicker questions right. If you skip, your grade will drop. He takes attendance via iclicker.

As a philosophy professor, I'd say he's pretty good. He encourages people to give there opinions and ideas so you can't really give a wrong answer. You just have to support your claims. Tests have a lot of names you have to remember so study hard before the midterm and final.

Was the best class of my semester. He made sure we styled our class like one big dialogue. Everything we read we had a chance to discuss and argue our points. He's super fair when it comes to grading - his view is that if one person gets an 89 and another a 90, they shouldn't receive 2 separate letter grades. Definitely my favorite professor here

In my Introduction to Philosophy class, he was extremely interested in the topic. He loves when students ask questions. His entire class is clicke questions, online summaries, and the midterm and final. Go to class, do the readings and online assignments, and you will be more than fine.

Doesn't wear shoes, interesting man. Lectures were very awesome and I feel like I learned a lot about environmental ethics by just listening to them. By the end of the semester, all of us students were super engaged in the class and were debating and such. No tests except for a final, just a few papers and some online discussion. Rather unorganized

If you really want to learn about Philosophy, this is the class to take. Dr. Cash is very passionate about the subject. There are 2-3 short stories that you must read for each class and online discussions every wk There are clicker questions each class. To pass the exams, just compare and contrast stories. There are two exams each worth 20%of grade

Dr. Cash is a great teacher and he made the subject of philosophy exciting. The book is required to pass, as every class there are iclicker questions based on the readings. He always responds to emails and the midterm and final are not too bad. I would recommend only if you're willing to read.

I got a B and I hardly read the book and just studied the clicker questions. Make sure to look closely in webcourses for the online discussions because sometimes they didn't show up on my to do list. Also the due dates for the discussions aren't clear. Honestly if I had read the book I probably would have gotten an A.

Your iClicker questions add up so many points so don't skip. He keeps lectures pretty entertaining so you won't get bored. Participate a lot, he's really cool and respects everyone's opinion. The only thing he really wants you to do in class is think objectively. For tests you just have to understand philosophical concepts and who came up with them

Unfortunately, you'd expect this to be a class where you can share your opinion and debate, but there isn't a lot of room for that as his lectures span pretty much the entire class. You don't know how he grades essays until you get a bad grade back, and you get marked down on things that shouldn't be in an intro course. Way too much reading.

Nice, quirky guy (New Zealander who doesn't wear shoes). Class is fairly easy (I got an A- without doing 90% of the reading), but reading assignments are extremely long and dull, and so are his lectures. His requirements for essays aren't clear until after the fact, and he's constantly changing deadlines. Slow grader. Ignores a lot of emails.

Dr. Cash is one of the most genuinely interesting professors that I have had. The class consists primarily of discussions about the readings and videos he assigns, and students are allowed to share and explore all varieties of opinions without judgement. His sense of humor is fantastic. Make sure to take good notes, and put real effort into them.

Wouldn't take again

Don't take as A or B Term summer class. TOO much to learn in short amount of time. More work then I have had in all my 3000 and 4000 classes ( taken 12). 4 hour final cumulative. Best to take it live full term. He is a good instructor.

Do not take this class online or during the summer. Way too much reading and heavy duty work. Do not take this class looking for an easy A. Easiest way to lower your GPA is taking this class if you have little interest in critical thinking and/or phycology. Harsh grader but I will admit gives valuable feedback.

Most of the readings are pieces philosophers have written on their views and can be found online, so don't buy the book. iClicker questions & polls daily in class. Enjoyable lectures. Weekly discussions in webcourses. Every few weeks, an in class discussion. No quizzes, just midterms. Focus on your opinion and supporting it. Great professor!

Dr. Cash is truly an amazing professor and person. He goes above and beyond to help students think outside the box while not getting confused about what you need to do to be successful in the class. The class is very easy to follow and if you participate in all of the little things and let yourself think about the discussions, you'll do well.

He's very to-the-point. You show up for the i-clicker grade, you do online discussions, and you take tests. That's about all you are required to do in the class. He's accessible if you're having trouble but it's kind of hard to have trouble. He posts summaries before exams so you know exactly what to study. Good professor altogether.

The class wasnt hard, ALOT of readings that are necessary to get a good grade on the tests. weekly discussions are easy, and in class Clicker questions are a big part of the grade so you should go to class. I hated the quizzes, I think that because he's fromoverseas, he words things differently so its not easy to understand on the ppt & quiz qs

This class requires alot of nightly readings. Class requires clicker question. Participation is important because this is how you will receive points. There will be online discussion due like once every two weeks. That is easy points. The tests can be complicated. The professor is nice and explains the concept.

The class is entirely based on the (rly long) textbook readings, but most people didn't read them at all, skimmed through (me), or googled summaries and did just fine. The classes are mostly discussions about the readings, so you still get an understanding. He'll talk for most of it but welcomes input from students. Weekly online discussions.

I took Professor Cash over the fall. This was not a hard class, but you will definitely need to understand the assigned readings and his powerpoints to do well on the tests. I actually bombed the first one but with all the other assignments (clickers especially) and learning from my mistakes with the first test I ended up with a B.

Professor Cash is a great professor and knows what hes talking about. Unfortunately I dont, the readings are hard to understand and the iclicker questions are the worst if you didnt understand what you read from the textbook (like me). He doesn't answer the questions and always says we will get to "that later". Hard to understand and takes a good half semester before starting anything that's in depth. Many don't listen in his class and just study outside of the classroom to pass. READING IS A MUST to pass. His examples and questions don't ever have a true answer.

Do not take this man for philosophy. His lectures are so extra and his exams are so hard and there are only 2 of them plus a final so you arent graded on much. There are in class discussions, iClickers are worth so much of your grade so you have to go and read , there are online discussions. Dont take him. Got an A but hated every minute of it.

Professor Cash is clearly very passionate about Philosophy, and he gives students many opportunities to share their opinions despite the large class size. There are a ton of nightly readings that I suggest you take notes on the night it is assigned because the quizzes are challenging. He does have an extreme leftist view and almost all the readings are about a leftist idea. He lets you share your opinion with the class and your discussion group. A "white privilege test" is assigned as well.

I never read a single textbook passage, but that was kinda a mistake when it came to the final. He uses the i-clicker system almost every class. If you're lucky it'll be down and he'll give everyone credit. His discussions are super simple, do them & get a 100%. The Powerpoints didn't help me too much. I recommend him though if you're gonna read.

Dr. Cash was great and had a couple amazing lectures. I personally was not interested in the topic, but I enjoyed it. I did not end up doing 90% of the readings and I was fine. I just read the PowerPoint slides before the quizzes. He was very accessible outside of class and has lenient grading. Just do the work and you will get an easy A.

Dr. Cash is amazing for philosophy. The readings and assignments he gives really helps you to get involved with the topics that he discusses in class. He has clear grading criteria and is fair with grades. Reading the book is strongly recommended, but most of the information for his tests can be found on his lecture slides.

Personally, he's a great person, human wise that is. As a professor, his class is taken too seriously for an introduction class. A lot of reading, quizzes are hard, many assignments (discussions) and apparently online quizzes over Thanksgiving. I love Mason, but I'd suggest you'd avoid his class if you don't intend on majoring anything related.

Professor Cash was a very delightful teacher. He takes attendance through clicker questions about the assigned readings so read them and go to class. The quiz questions come straight from his lectures. He's a reasonable guy and works with any problems you have. There's online and in class discussions, and is very open to discussion during class.

Great teacher! Really knows what he is talking about and posts his lecture slide that you can study and make notes from. He definitely gears his test to test that you really understand the material. My favorite teacher of the semester.

You actually have to pay attention in this class from day one. I didn't do all the readings but it would've helped so much. He is an okay professor but grades things weirdly and didn't give extra credit. You have a lot of discussion posts to do and 3 quizzes before the final exam.

Grades are based on two tests (including the final) and two papers. There is also some class participation points that are 15% of the grade. He's clear about his grading criteria, and more than willing to hear you out if you have an issue with an assignment. Reading intensive, but skimming is viable, as he goes over the paper in class.

Do your discussion posts, participate, read the PowerPoint slides before the tests and you'll be fine. He's pretty funny, very engaging, and facilitated some interesting discussions in this class. It got kind of boring at times, but overall this was a good class and a fairly easy A.

Dr. Cash is a very good professor. Clicker questions are part of your grade so show up to class, but you can be absent (I think up to 6 times) before it affects your grade. He is very understanding and nice, although if you wait too long to do discussion posts (even before the due date) he'll email you to do them. It's pretty funny. He's a nice guy

He is a great professor but his class includes long lectures everyday and there is a lot of reading outside of class. If you don't do the reading it will be tough, especially for the in class clicker questions. There are a few quizzes that are heavily weighed.

Great Professor. As long as you do the reading and re-read slides you can pass the class with a good grade. Discussions are a key part of the curriculum. Took it during summer and therefore it was very reading intensive. Clicker questions about the readings. Just do what youre suppose to to and youll be fine. Is lenient with attendance.

phenomenal professor & person, def one of the best at ucf. he's so funny and caring and the course material is engaging and worthwhile. test material is mostly off his powerpoints but not hard at all. fun class to go to & he pays attention to how much effort u put in attendance only mandatory a few times not always but go anyway it's worth it

I looked the most forward to attending because I learned a lot and it was 100% worth my time. He is a very kind professor who enjoys actual discussion and it never felt like a lecture and more like a really open conversation (I was in the honors with 20 people). The tests were never as hard as I thought they would be. Fun and enlightening!

Philosophy honors with Dr. Cash honestly changed how I saw a lot of things. We had many open discussions as a class that were respectful and insightful. He's a really great person, but I didn't learn a thing in his class. I read the readings, but it was discouraging at times because sometimes you read and still get the clicker questions wrong. I managed to scrape by with the other assignments. Some classmates loved his class though, so it may be a hit or miss.

Some of the material is dense but relevant to the discussion. This course builds up on early readings, so make sure to read. It becomes repetitive at some point, so I advice to have questions regarding the material, if not it is brutal. These theories touch on current events, politics, and pop culture, be sure to prepare on that for variety's sake

The professor is definitely educated when it comes to philosophy but tried way too hard to make the class difficult. I took him for summer b term this year. There is a timed reading quiz for every single reading assigned. He assigns multiple readings every week. About 8-11 assignments due every week. All quizzes and exams have original questions.

I took this class for summer B during COVID. Professor Cash was very nice and accessible. He gives a lots of reading so if you like to read you will probably do good. I would definitely choose him as a professor again although it was very stressful at times. Overall, if you do well with reading comprehension quizzes and writing you should do well.

One of my favorite Professors now. Incredibly caring about his students. Lectures are all a fun conversation with the whole class. Very reading/writing intensive, but he understands life happens and is flexible with you. Emphasis on flexible!! Hes funny and makes you feel like hes your friend. I learned SO MUCH in his class. So I am a mechanical engineering major. Take a lot of hard classes but this is by far the hardest and most time consuming class I have had. I appreciate the professor for trying to make this interesting but the excessive amount of work is excruciating. I'm at a 90 rn but i hope i get an A to keep my 4.0, wish me luck.

If you decide to take him, take notes on almost every slide and you'll be fine. Tons of reading quizzes, but they are easy and he drops a ton of them (10). You learn topics from consciousness to political viewpoints. I suggest that you take this class if you are ready to read 4 (15-18 pages) papers/articles per week, which correlate to 4+ quizzes that can be easily 8 questions each.On top of discussions weekly, worksheets, and exams. You have to buy iclicker and it bugs alot and you get graded on it. If for some reason it shows that you did not sign into iclicker, it will count you absent and wont get points for it. He cant rlly do anything about it so it is really frustrating. Idk about anyone else, but his accent (which is beautiful) was honestly hard for me to understand.

Truly one of the greatest professors I've ever taken. He taught our section in a flipped classroom style, so readings and quizzes outside, while classtime was purely group discussion. About 1-2 hours of work before each class. If you hate reading and/or thinking, maybe don't take this class, but you'd be missing out. Life changing if you let it be.

Professor Cash is a great teacher! He was very responsive to emails and truly cared about his students. This course does require LOTS of reading each week, but as long as you put in the effort it will pay off! I never felt comfortable sharing my thoughts before or opinions but he makes conversations approachable. If you like philosophy then you shouldn't mind reading. While there is a lot of workload in this class, it's fairly easy. he does drop a ton of stuff which also helps. Pretty chill prof, very understanding and passionate about philosophy. Regular homeworks that aren't bad individually. May give extra credit via a philosophical project.
