What Students Say
“By far the worst professor I have had; spent hours on homework and still struggled to maintain a good average; does not let you use a calculator for the majority of the work; only lets you do problems his way or you get a 0; though we use the textbook for homework, he teaches his own way so whatever type of outside help you try to get - good luck”

Good one to take!!!!!!!!!!!
Doesn't teach at all. Doesn't matter since his classes are cake. possible opium addict
Don't even goto class. Teach yourself
No Comments
Brush up one your middle east accent! Do all your homework, you hand it in at the end for a grade. During a 2hr class, you'll review homework for at least 1hr. usually. Find a friend to pick up the assignments and then just teach yourself.
funny guy, "do homework you get A" how intersting can anyone make stat 200 anyway? take it, do the work, and you will pass, GO TO CLASS
Didn't do my homework, didn't get a good grade. Tests were not bad. Bottom line, homework.
what a class. He'll tell you over and over to do ur homework and you'll get A but trust me...u don't need to just take ur book to class and ask for open book tests
This professor and his class is completely disfunctional
The man knows nothing about the classes he teaches. You would be further ahead buying the book Mathematics for Dummies!
He is the easiest profesor i've ever had
Ok, I did the homework, studied it, know it. I could never understand what he was looking for on the test. When in doubt ask him what we wants to see on the test. You can't begin to guess what show your work means to him. Work is anything from 'because the bok says so' to drawing a picture. CRAZY!!!
WORST teacher I have every had. Is very unclear as to what he wants on exams, and penalizes for the dumbest things(not drawing an arrow to something)! Do not take this class with this professor unless you are prepared to teach yourself! Waste of time!!
I stopped going to the class mid semester cause I couldn't stand being lectured about how important it is to show up for class. He needs to worry less about student's behavior and more on the subject he is trying to teach, which he doesn't seem to understand enough to be teaching. Do your homework assignements, get an A+ guaranteed.
Very unclear about everything he tries to teach in class. Going to class is not helpful in any way and he loves to give pop quizzes when no one is in class.
Only thing good about this class was the non-comprehensive final. A few popquizes and homework grades, 2 tests and the final. Tabatabi takes a long time to explain material and seems to waste a lot of time in class by this. When the exam rolls around there are many things on it that he didnt discuss. Tough class if you dont study.
Test sucks, one mistake you you got an "F". It's "we" not "ve".
This class was so easy, that it wasn't. He did take a lot of time explaining everything, and he is picky about his exams. One little mistake and he takes a lot of points off. If you want to complain or argue about a point, he will NEVER give it to you!
This class was so easy. Really, do the homework, show up for class, and if you aren't retarded, you'll get an A. He lets you have a cheat sheet on the exams.
can't understand him. i've taken every math offered at this school and he is by far the worst. i would rather take vector calc than this easy course with him. he dumbs everything down, pop quizes straight from the book. tests get either an equation sheet or open book. final is easy, but on all the tests, you better write every single step.
If you go to class and do your homework you will get an A. He lets you have a cheat sheet and sometimes makes exams open book. He is super annoying and goes over everything for about an hour, but once you get it, you can just tune him out.
This guy was funny, he is very intense when he is teaching. I honestly think he wants everyone to understand the material. He is the only one who teaches this course so my opinion really does not count.
This professor is very thorough. If you come to class and want to learn you will do well. He is also very helpful and cares about the students. All in all I thought he was a great prof.
Thick Egyptian accent and poor examples. The quizzes are easy if you do the homework...he gives you a homework question and allows you to copy from your notebook if you already did it. Exams are open book. However, this is a horrible class if you are a math major or want to go on to higher statistics and probability. You will NOT be prepared.
I am TERRIBLE with math, but actually understood the concepts he taught. Show up to class, do the homework and actually try, you will pass. It was all foreign to me, and he made sense of it. Sometimes serious, but also funny professor! Really slows it down for those who have no knowledge of mu, and xbar, etc. Liked him!
I hate math, but he does encourage his students to do well. A little hard to understand. Oh and please DO NOT TALK while he's teaching. You've been warned.
I had the inconvenience of having this professor twice... Both classes he taught horribly and I think I am worse at math after the class. He doesn't explain anything well and you have to rely on your textbook. I don't recommend him to anyone who is struggling with math.
Horrible teacher. Did not explain anything. Gave us wrong information. He gave half the class a super easy final, and the other half an impossible one, with questions that didn't make sense, and had his multiple choice answers that were wrong. Avoid him if you can.
I took this class in the summer of 2007, it was probably the EASIEST math class i have ever taken, and i hate math horribly!!
Good teacher. A little hard to understand, but he will keep explaining things until you get it. Encourages you to ask questions. Easy Math course if you study. Tests are a bit insane, you get 1 wrong and its like a B or C already or like 5% of your final grade.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!!!!!! He is not a real teacher I do not know how he got his degree. He doesn't explain anything to you. You need to teach yourself in this class.
When you pay around 1200+ dollars for this required course, you would expect to get something out of it. On our first test, which was supposed to be a 1 hour test, all of the students walked out in the first 10 minutes; everybody with 100 out of 100. I felt retarded. It was supposed to be an undergrad level STAT course. Make your own conclusions.
This class could be difficult, luckily Tabatabai made it a lackadaisical experience. He teaches the material ok, but don't expect to leave as an expert. Avoid talking, unless you want him to lecture 30 minutes on why you shouldn't (fun to hear though). 3 exams, 4 multiple choice probs. He allows a note sheet, make it good so the exam is tolerable.
Very funny. Simplifies everything and makes it easy to understand. Very knowledgeable and down to earth. Very laid back teaching style.
Rather annoying but easy to understand if you pay attention. However, it is hard to pay attention because of his teaching style. He enjoys statistics, but does not make you enjoy it.
This was a fairly easy class. He can be hard to understand sometimes. The tests were all open book which was nice, and your not expected to memorize all the trig functions like most professors require.
He teaches well enough for you to get the material and the textbook can clarify the things that he might not have. I found his test to be really easy since he allows you to use a cheatsheet. Attendance doesn't count toward your grade. Keep in mind, DON'T let him catch you talking during class, he will call you out in front of the entire class
Class was a bore, but i expected that much from stat 200. easy tests though, no surprises on it. But if you screw one thing up your grade is going to be dismal. Only three grades in the class all tests. He teaches the class like he is teaching highschoolers, no talking, raise your hand etc. I asked for help a couple of times and he explained.enjoy
Great teacher. Tests super easy, and he allows a formula sheet. He makes everything super simple to understand. Take his course if you are just taking stats because it is required. Don't talk/text in his class, he will point you out and go on and on about it. Although other students should keep quiet anyway, nobody cares about your chatter.
attendance not mandatory but taken into account when determining your final grade. Test questions are extremely close to homework questions, note sheet permitted on tests. Gets angry extremely easily, will loudly berate students for several minutes for even minor rule violations (checking time on cell phone/talking in class).
Great professor! If you need to take stats just because it's required and have no interest in it, take his class! He explains things in details so that even a 5th grader can understand. Lets you use formula sheets for exams. Is straight to the point. Overall, great experience in his class, he tries to make it as fun as stats can get!
He really is helpful. I cares that his students pass and you have to put effort and study. He wants to help but you have to ask for help. Very good professor
Terrible teacher. Easy to get through the class if you ignore him and just read the textbook. The material is easy, and he makes it a lot harder than it has to be.
This professor is great. As someone who has struggled w/ math since 6th grade, his class was surprisingly very easy to understand. He answers all questions and explains material better than the book. He's hilarious but sometimes blows up if the class doesn't do HW or if people are texting. Go to class, do HW and "you will get A"
This class was work! I'm a A student and was worried I wouldn't pass. GO to his office hours if you struggle on the first couple of test, you will NOT pass if you do not do the homework. Sit near the front and don't text. Otherwise awesome, funny and generous grader. Get to know him! He's a normal dude with a passion for teaching.
Great teacher He tells you from the first day of class-study and you will pass and he holds to it If he sees you working hard, answering questions and doing homework, you will succeed. Visit him during his office hours if you have any questions-he is more than happy to help you and will recognize your care in work
He is very knowledgeable in the subject and simplifies the material in the book, making it easy to understand. He's also very willing to help you understand if you find yourself struggling. He's a great professor!
He explains things thoroughly and simplifies the book to the extreme. He's strict (NO electronics or talking in class!!!!), but gets the point across. Not an easy A class, but you will pass if you do the homework and learn the material. Four tests, homework (not graded), and around 12 quizzes. He is hard to understand due to his accent at times.
This class was really hard for me. I did everything he asked for in his class, stayed up late to study and re-did the homework problems multiple times. I saw that I was not doing well in his class, so I went to his office to ask for help and he told me there was nothing he could do for me. His class is basically reading out of the textbook.
Show up to class, otherwise you will not pass. On tests he lets you write down procedures on a sheet of paper. Homework quizzes happen about 10 times over the course, just do your homework. Do not have your phone out or talk in class or he will stop class and yell at you. If you just show up to class and take notes for the test it's simple.
Gets off topic constantly. "If you use cell phone you fail at life." "You go to movies with eyes closed its like using cell phone in class." He does not explain anything. NO PARTIAL CREDIT FOR ANYTHING. Overall a horrible experience. BEWARE.
His lectures are right out of the book and easy to understand. He provides useful help when you show up to his office hours. His tests are kind of tough because they are short and there's not partial credit, but if you do the homework and practice the problems you will do go.
Dr. Tabatabai can be confusing at times, mainly due to his accent. Although he is very knowledgable. He is always willing to help and goes through the problem step by step to make sure you understand. Expect homework every class, try the problems because they are almost exactly the same on the test. Dont use cell phone, or no med school for you.
His lectures are really clear. Don't skip the class. If you do your homework, you can get an A.
It was such a easy class. As long as you do your homework and make a good cheat sheet for the test with the formulas given during class.
Overall, the class wasn't too bad. The lectures can be a bit confusing, and sometimes he will draws out the most obvious questions which can be annoying. But as long as you take good notes, do your homework, you really should not struggle in this course at all. His lectures are very thorough.
He lets you make a cheat sheet for the test however if you don't know how to do a problem on a test it doesn't matter if you guess and circle the right one he will not give you credit. Lots of homework and boring lectures. I would take someone else.
I literally hated this man for the first half of the semester. After half+ of the class dropped he became pretty cool though. If you have another option, TAKE IT. He does not give partial credit. I took 2 levels of stats already and understand everything and have a B because of his grading. Takes 40 mins to go over 1 problem. Frustrating.
I took STAT200 as a 6 week session in the summer. We few through the content although sometimes he does tend to beat a dead horse when you're ready to just move on. The best way to ace this class is to take great notes, do all the homework in your notebook, make a good cheat sheet of formulas for your tests and you will get a good grade.
I you have another option, take it. Very Tough grader and even mean sometimes. Bring book to class otherwise he'll freak out. Also, he has a strong accent so it's a little hard to understand him at times. No partial credit you miss something you won't get any points. No assignments, a few pop quizzes and 3 tests.
As for classes, during a 90-minutes class, you will be given a 3-minutes cellphone break. You are not allowed use during the class. As for assignments, you have better do those because quizzes are from those assignments. As for each test, 20 points equal to 20 points of total grade. Lectures are REALLY boring.
He offers NO partial credit and requires labeling for each step (what rule you used) of every problem. If you get the problem right but don't label it, ZERO POINTS. Tests are scary. He gives you quizzes on random questions from the HW and if you don't get it 100% right in his eyes ZERO points. I spent hours on HW and walked away with a 40% for HW
Here is the deal. Is his class strict, yes. Is he a hard grader, yes. Is his class hard, no. He tells you from the start what he wants. Do the HW, which the answers are in the book or online, and learn the concepts. Do that and you will not go wrong. Also, he will explain any question if asked. It is not an easy A, but you will learn a lot.
honestly he just not good as a stats teacher.
This professor is a very good professor, yes he is a tough grader but it is because he wants you to learn, im not going to lie i did not study the first 2 exams and i was failing the class because i did the homework but i did not understand it. after i realize that the only option i had was studying and understand the hw i got to a B. Good luck!
I think that if you are generally good at math and pick things up quickly you will be frustrated with him. If you are less good at math and it takes you more time, you will appreciate how he breaks things down step-by-step and goes over multiple examples. This was the first math class I've taken where I actually understood what was going on.
By far the worst professor I have had; spent hours on homework and still struggled to maintain a good average; does not let you use a calculator for the majority of the work; only lets you do problems his way or you get a 0; though we use the textbook for homework, he teaches his own way so whatever type of outside help you try to get - good luck
Love him. Really kind and nice. Do his work and you will earn a good grade.
Old school professor , breaks it down so everyone can understand
His lectures covered everything and his class was easy
if I would recommend a professor for STAT200, definitely Tabatabai.
whewww, Prof T is one professor. His emphasis on being exact from the textbook will be grained in your mind by the end of the semester. You get pop quizzes on hw, and if the answer isn't exactly like the way the book does it or you don't put work, you'll get a 0. They're 3 test, formula sheets are allowed, tests are alright, but STUDY! STUDY! STUDY
He was very challenging, as were the tests. However, he is incredibly detailed in his lectures and is happy to help if you go to his office.
Very rude! Showed up late to the final and told the class he would curve the final grade by a little but when asked about it yelled delibertly at the student to "get out" of the exam room. Would never EVER take again.
His lectures do drag on, but overall they are very helpful to understanding the material and he is willing to do anything to help students get through the course. The homework he assigns reflect directly to the three exams, but studying beyond that is required to excel in his exams. His exams are inherently tricky, so studying concepts is a must.
Very picky grader. Even if you get the right answer, he will take points off if you did not do it his way. Even if you should work, it has to match his work perfectly. He does not grade fair at all. Also makes you explain your work in detail which takes up test time and if you are not exact with your wording, you will get points off.
He does NOT record zoom. only three grades are all he puts in, test 1 2 and 3 so if you fail one youre over. Zooms drag on. I had the correct answer but because it wasnt done in his way he took off FULL POINTS. not just me, other students have witnessed the same problem. do not take him
I believe he is the worst professor in PSU, Harrisburg. He graded the exam in his way, a very rude, disrespectful person ever seen in my life. He didn't care about the student and if you like to get good grade he is not the right Professor to have. AVOID THIS GUY.
The professor has no care for his own students whether you show up or not. He demands you complete the homework as it is the only work you will receive throughout the entire course and I recommend you do it even though it isn't graded. It's difficult to understand some of his lectures and he does not record lectures. There is also no partial credit
Prof T is not a bad guy, but his class is not worth the stress if you can avoid taking him I would. He has a unique way of grading his exams and there are only 3 exams in the entire class that will make up the total of your grade. If you fail one you are done. When he grades your exam you can get points off for even having the right answer . GL
Worst professor I have taken during my time here.
Second time taking stat200, compared to the other prof I like Prof Tabatabai a lot better, for most chapters he categorizes them into different procedures which makes it a lot easier to learn the material. Do the hw and you'll be fine on the tests (coming from someone who is HORRIBLE at math). If you missed a class just talk to him he will explain
He will give tests based on homework (exact copy of homework problems) randomly (usually on Thursdays) that he specifically will leave not enough time to complete unless you completed the homework. He doesnt allow phone usage in class, and is strict. However, he is generally a decent teacher although he does get confused sometimes.
May be the worst teacher I have ever had in my life.
This professor is the WORST professor I have ever had. Professor was late for the final and did not give extra time for the time missed due to his tardiness. He is uncaring and rude to his students. DO NOT TAKE. He will give you dirty looks down the hall.
Prof Tabatai's Class is tough for sure. He sets expectations for you from the start. He is very test heavy but he allows you to bring formula sheets on test. The quizzes were graded off of homework problems, so do the homework problems and you'll do alright. Work hard and it will pay off.
His lectures aren't bad and the class is very fair. He gives a decent amount of homework that actually helps you learn the material and helps you on exams. Only problem I have is the entire course is based only on 3 exams and 6 quizzes; no extra credit.
He does not provide any information except for the textbook. He doesn't give you marks for exams if you use a different method than the steps he teaches, even if your process makes sense and the answer is correct. No corrected work, no feedback on any work, but surprise checks in the form of quizzes. Doesn't give student any trust. TERRIBLE!!
Honestly, I won't take his class, I would rather take it with other profs than him. He is very rude and did not care about the students and our success. I am telling you to run away if you can from him.
I had to drop off this class because I have a 15% and the highest grade in my class is a low D. He can be very rude and always ask if we have questions when answering he doesn't finish the problem or tells you to go to his office hours. His exams are very difficult and he doesn't give half a point even if you have some part of the problem right.
Honestly do not understand the reviews this guy gets. His lectures are really straightforward, his quizzes are literally the homework (open note). He lets us bring up to 2 sheets of notes on the exam, and the exam questions are literally based off the homework. If you do the homework, which is not a lot, you will def pass this class.
I recommend this professor, he is caring and will make sure that you understand the subject.
Three exams make up almost all of the grade, and he grades them very harshly. Even if you get the multiple choice questions right he will still mark them wrong if you do not show the work he wants
Professor allows two cheat sheets for all the exams. The exams are worth 90% of the grade, the quizzes 10%, and you can submit homework at the end of the semester for an extra 10%. Generous with extra credit, 3 free points for a test, and 2 points for completing the SRTE. Go to class, do homework, and participate and you will do good.
Exams are worth 90% of your grade, if you don't do well on them you will not pass. he allows one formula sheet for the exams, but they are multiple choice, if you don't show your work you don't get points, if you do show work you don't get any partial credit. I learned so much from this class but found it impossible to get my grade up.
His lectures and homework arent terrible, but his exams are. They are worth most of your grade and are confusing. The worst part for me was that they are multiple choice, but you have to show your work. He gave me a 30% on my first exam and i dropped the class
This man spent so much time during the lecture stressing how important it is to be quiet and pay attention that we never got to any actual information. Class is a breeze and he talks to everyone like you are 5. Quizzes are all one point and the tests are 90% of the grade so make sure you study. He does not post anything on Canvas so go to class.
Prof. has weekly quizzes where you just copy homework solutions onto a piece of paper for an easy 1/1. He breaks the material into tools and procedures, making it easier for students to understand. He allows formula sheets for exams. He also calls on people to answer, so be prepared, but I understand that he wants everyone to understand the concept
Very patient and doesn't get impatient with the questions asked by the students. The summarized content is easy to understand and the exams, while not easy, are all about homework and not a lot of innovative topics. He is very responsible for his students and makes sure to come to class and he will give bonus points for extra credit.
Lectures cover the basics, but exams are challenging and worth most of the grade. Using resources like unstuck study alongside the textbook can help tackle the tricky multiple-choice format. Overall, the class is manageable with consistent effort.
All he does is writes notes on the board strait from the textbook and he doesn't actually teach anything. Tests are also worth most of the grade. It takes him a whole class to cover material that should only take 20 minutes and that's all you get. terrible experience taking his class.
Your grade is decided by 3 exams, worth 30% each. 10% is a weekly one-question quiz lifted directly from the homework. Doesn't post anything on canvas. In lectures, he can sometimes be infuriating in how slow he is and how much he repeats himself. He breaks procedures into "tools" which does make things easier. Not a hard class you just have to try
He is a great professor. You will get a good grade if u study. He gives A LOT of extra credits. I never took stats in high school and I probably would get an A.
Has 3 grades for exams worth 30 points (does allow a cheat sheet), about 12 1 point quizzes that are based off of the homework. will give you a zero if you are not perfectly writing down every single step (even if you get the answer right). He will force you to answer questions, then make you look stupid if you get it wrong. pretty thick accent
