good teacher, very helpful, always available when he says he is
Great History Teacher. No homework, Study for his 2 essay midterms in the class and you get an A He even gives you essay topics for the essay exam. I would def. take him again.

Gives great, interesting lectures. Can tell he enjoys teaching and is very good at it. Essay exams are challenging, yet thought-provoking and very fair. Will be a favorite teacher.
Very helpful teacher. His lectures weren`t boring. No homework as long as you pay attention and take good notes/read the books then you`ll do fine. Haskins is a nice guy, I`d reccomend him. Bases his grade on the midterm/final.
50% of your grade is one midterm, other 50% is final. both are essay questions/identify terms. you get possible essay questions beforehand. nice teacher. energetic lectures that are interesting. 5-6 books but they are cheap (2 were like a $1.00)
nice enough fellow, good enthusiastic lecturer.only has a midterm and final essay format, not easy but not that difficult, just study the questions he gives b4 hand and you'll do fine.

A very nice guy, a very nice professor. His lectures are energetic, clear, and enthusiastic. You can tell he likes what he does. Encourages discussion and is always willing to help.
He is a very good teacher and very nice. You dont have to read the books if you go to class because he explains it all in class. Tests are easy if you go to class even if you dont read. I didnt read and i got an A. I recommned him definitely!!!
Absolutely Awesome teacher. Made the semester very clear while actually teaching you as well. I definitely recommend!
It was avery interesting class, and he was an awesome professor. If you have to take an AMerican Studies class...take him!!
He's a really cool guy. I would recomend taking him! His midterm and final are essay questions straight out of his lectures... so go to class everyday, take good notes and you will do great! Plus he cancels class all the time, an added bonus.
He is extremely passionate. Very interesting lectures, just go to class and you'll do well.
He's great! Very interesting to listen to. As the others have mentioned, his exams are clearly outlined in the lectures which are good. Don't have to do much...just pay attention and you'll do great!
Easy A. Felt more like a 200-level class. Little to no class discussion. Needed to bring in more music samples..after all, it was a popular music class!

Prof. Haskins is an awesome teacher. He is very into his line of work and it shows in his lectures. History classes are usually boring and dull, be he makes this class interesting.
Professor Haskins is an awesome teacher. Although, I did not attend class regularly (and you know he knows if you have not been there)...He still answered any/all questions that I had. I would definitely take him again!
He is a good lecturer and his class is an easy B. But if you want an A, make sure to read and understand the books. Only 1 midterm and 1 final.
Went to class every day and wrote really well on tests. Got a B in the class. Doesn't give any A's. So, if you like to work hard for a B, then take his class.
Prof Haskins is a neat teacher. He is very interested in his lectures, which is obvious. I wish he would talk more with the class than to the class, but every teacher is different. 2 tests; always outlined. Definitely recommend. Had fun laughing at his comments... esp. "if you give an inch, they'll take a mile," overused, but it was cute.
he's a really nice guy and you can tell he loves what he teaches. 2 essays (mid + fin), and he grades them pretty easy; you could actually probably get by without reading any of the books. there is very little class interaction b/c he's normally lecturing the whole time. the class itself is kind of boring, but i hear his is less boring than oth
he's a laid back guy, very cute to stare at in class. He DOES NOT RESPOND to e-mail very well, and he covers a lot in his lectures!! alot!! You can tell he loves his job. The tests are very hard, and the study guides have way too many questions that are never on his tests. Never homework, 3 tests total i think, NO EXTRA CREDIT.
A really fun and interesting professor though it'd be better if he participated more with the class instead of just talking to us. There's a midterm and a final - he gives a study guide with the questions from the test already on it. Also, he's VERY nice to look at.
This class is decent if you haven't taken any other classes in the Amst department. If you are taking this for general education, it is very interesting, but if you are a Amst or history major, a lot of the material is redundant. The instructor tries hard but hardly ever engages the class, which makes it difficult to stay awake. He means well.
Great teacher. Just take good notes and that will be on the test. Your test scores are as good as your notes. Also try to read the books or just skim and you will be fine. Awesome teacher.
Sexy. what can i say. Could not stop looking at the man. first professor crush ive ever had! But fairly easy, like 5 books, one extremely boring. Read and go to class regularly just so that u know what he'll be looking for on the test. & take notes. pretty easy i'd say,i got an A. funny, nice & enthusiastic. Good (and totally hot) professor.
Amazing instructor he definitely knows/loves his work, very approachable too so don't be scare if you decided to take a 3 week vacation in the middle of the semester :p Make sure your there every meeting, midterm/final are heavily base on his class notes/lecture. Highly recommended :D
Very interesting lectures & a pretty cool guy. Just listen to his lectures, read the books (which are pretty interesting and not that long) and you'll be fine. Mid-term and final were 2 essay questions each, with around 7 terms/people you have to I.D. If you miss a lecture, just read the chapter instead.
Nice guy, personal anecdotes are funny and keep the class alive. Other than that, his lectures can get pretty boring. if you take thorough notes, skim the texts, and point out connections between the lecture and reading on the two exams, it is should be easy to get an A or B. Very willing to help students, but VERY slow when replying to emails.
Young, Informed, and Great to Listen To! Fun Reading Material...Overall great class
He made the class very enjoyable. Written midterm & final consisting of two essay questions & 7 short ID words (explain words given). Gives a study guide too. Answers should be from book & lectures. Doesn't take roll but lectures are helpful. I was worried about the essay questions, but they aren't that hard. Got a B.
I didn't mind the class, but it was definitely my least favorite Amst class I've taken. He lectures for the entire 1 1/2 and doesn't engage the class at all. If you think Haskins is the "best prof ever," you obviously haven't taken any of the real American Studies professors at CSUF. Try Lystra, Lane, or Lewinnek next time...
Lame. Knows his content. Doesn't know much about teaching. By the second half of the course, I figured out I could just read the books during class and get an A on the exam.
He's pretty cool. You really don't need to read the book unless you go to class every time. He explains it all in lextures. If you miss a class read the book instead. 4 books very cheap. 2 tests the midterm and the final each are 50% of your grade. Helpful in his office hours so if you need help go to his office hours it helps a lot.
you do have to read the books, you'll still do well by just going to class, but reading gives you the edge. he teaches well, but no one seems to ever ask questions and no one talks but him and it's long lecture, i think that's people don't like him. he's easy to follow and he clarifies. he's easy to talk to and the material is interesting enough.
Great professor. He made the subject very easy to understand, and was very passionate about teaching. He is always willing to help you if you do not understand. YOu do not have to read to do well in the class and the tests are fairly easy.
He's alright, very knowledgable but just lectures the whole time, not very approachable
Long lectures made me sleepy...but easy to understand. Didn't like having to study through 10 essay topics w/ key people/terms...when only writing 2 essays per test. Not the worst class but not the best. At least you can browse online if u have a laptop while he talks.
easy B! just read the books which i never did! i just went to class and listened to what he said took some notes and got a B! i could have gotten an A but i think u gotta be very clear in your bluebook tests to get an A! but its really an easy B take him if u hate American Studies :/
Haskins is pretty easy I emailed him my list of key words/key people before the midterms/finals and replied within a few days. Easy B if you put the effort in the class. Class average was a C.
he lectures every class. goes over the victorian era/silent film, jazz, comics, and 2nd wave feminists. there are 2 tests consisting of 2 essays and 5 ids. he gives 10 possible essay questions for the study guide & the lecture notes are SUPER important for tests. i got an A, hes not hard, but go to EVERY class.
spends a lot of time trying to get you interested in puritans!
He's a really good professor. Not a boring lecturer, he keeps you interested. Even though he's really cool about attendance I still recommend you go to class , IT ULTIMATELY HELPS YOU
He is a wonderful professor! He is very passionate about what he teaches yet is clear about the important things. He is not strict at all about attendence, but just going to the class prepares you for the test. I didnt read at all because he is covers the material very well. Definately one of my favorite professors.
Awesome professor, highly recommend. Great lectures, passionate, makes class enjoyable! Easy B
This was my second time having him. He's such a great professor. His lectures are not boring they are interesting. Your grade is basically the three test through out the semester but they are easy. He gives you the essay questions ahead of time and the rest are ID's. Basically read and take notes and you'll do fine!
Such an awesome professor! he genuinely loves what he does and it is obvious. he takes some things that may not be so interesting and makes them clear and insightful
Great Professor, very clear during lectures and loves his subject. I never read the books and got A's. Pay attention! Two Essay Exams...thats all. Go to class, take notes, study the notes!! And you'll do fine. It's also nice that he's attractive and his personality is amazing.
Take Him Trust ME!! Might come off hard, you dont have to do the readings to get a good grade, Took his class never read the book just studied the midterm and final questions in advance and I got B+.. There is only midterm and Final in his class. He is really laid back and cool!!
Do the reading, great professor, comes off strong at first but is really nice.
He's an okay guy. i never did the reading & did pretty well in the class. He wants you to give him examples from the book on your essay tests so that he knows you actually did the reading and arent just giving him his lecture notes back to him. He really knows his stuff!
Haskins was a badass professor. He deintely had a passion in the subject matter. Do the reading and go to all the classes and you're set. No homework, midterm and final are in class essays about the reading and inclass discussions.
TAKE HIM!!! Man, Haskins' class was one of the best classes Ive ever taken at CSUF. He definitely has a passion for the subject matter. Do the readings and you'll pass, he's pretty easy on the eyes too ;]
Great Teacher. Laid back. Just take lecture notes and study the book and notes before the final. 50% of grade is midterm, 50% of grade is a final. No hw. Take him if you can.
Great teacher. Material can be boring but he has a way of making it seem interesting. He knows his stuff real well and will answer any and all questions. Provides humor in this class for sure. Two tests, one being a midterm and final. Both are essays but if you study hard and do the essay questions its cake.
I loved this professor. Take him. Seriously. He is also a babe.
Someone who took this class recently, do we need the 4 books for this class?
Best teacher ever!! so chill and really explains things well, he gives a better understanding of the books...and yes to answer the question below you do use all 4 books!!
Great professor.
great class!(: professor haskins makes the class extremely interesting, there is only 2 exams with only 2 essay questions with 4 ids, his grading is a little confusing, you do not have to go to class but i would to get on his good side
He is great! Theres only midterm and final. Both are essays and if you take good notes then it will be easy. He gives you the study guide and two will be on the test. He's lectures are interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but it is best to go because taking notes will help you a lot.
Such an enthusiastic teacher. I'm usually the one who hates anything to do with history but he actually makes it SO interesting.
LOVE HIM!!!!! Easily one of the best teachers I've EVER had. highly recommend
For teaching things that I would normally consider a bit boring, he actually makes it really interesting! Lectures the whole entire period with no breaks or PPT's really, but he gets the class into it! Seems tough at first, but in the end he was really fun :) Also, gives you a study guides that really help!!
Such a cool guy. Dont have to go to class cause he doesnt take role, but you should and take notes because he clarifies everything in his lectures . Read the books! their are no assignments but two essays, midterm and final. The longer the essay and more detailed it is the better the grade. The essays are your only grade so readings are important.
Great Professor! He knows what he is talking about. If you need help with something he was always there to help. Get books! Need to show that you "read" on the midterm and final. No other work. Take notes.
Good guy, means well. Class was super boring because all he does is reiterate the books you he assigns. Make sure you do the readings as he assigns them!!!! I didn't and I had to read all three the weekend before finals. Not fun. Good teacher overall. Always willing to read essays before the test. Gives good feed back. All I can say is READ THE BOOKS and you will do great.
Amazing at lecturing on topics that can be a little boring. Two important things attend every class take detailed notes and if you miss, get notes from someone who will explain them to you. Make sure you practice the essays for the tests. I barely read for the second half and basically faked evidence of reading by inserting essay relatable passages
Haskins is really clear and lays out the information needed for the tests. Final grade out of 2 tests which is pretty intimidating. Show up to every class and keep up with the reading, vital knowledge in both that will help you get a good grade in class.
I actually enjoyed this class a lot. Haskins is a great professor & loves the material that he teaches. There are only 2 tests (mid-term & final) that determines your grade. I would suggest attending every class session, taking detailed notes and READ READ READ the books he assigns!!
great professor! you must buy the books and keep up with all the reading. pay close attention to what is in the book, you use that for evidence of reading on the two exams! no homework or take home essay, simply in class exams that your grade is based off of. Ended up with a B plus, fair grader! good energy! must take
ATTENDANCE WOULD MAKE THE CLASS EASIER AND READING THE BOOKS ARE A MUST TO SUCCEED. THE BOOKS WERE INTERESTING TO READ. I MISSED MOST OF THE CLASSES WAS ABLE TO PASS WITH A "C." I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROFESSOR.
Hard class to get an A in unless you're extremely good at writing & writing in-class essays.Entire grade is 1 midterm & 1 final. Both in class essays. Have to read the books by yourself and you must write about what he didn't talk about in class.Lectures are really boring b/c no ppt or notes on board. He just talks the entire time.He is nice though.
I encourage you to read the books.. they're interesting (and cheap). As long as you can provide evidence that you read the books, you'll do well on exams (essay questions and short IDs). Haskins is enthusiastic and a great teacher. I definitely recommend taking his classes.
Attendance is not mandatory but go to class if you want to pass! The grading consist of 1 midterm and 1 final exam. Both exams are essay questions & ID. He wants you to mix the lecture notes and reading together in your essay so make sure to read the book! He's funny & knows a lot about the topic. Very helpful if you ask questions.
He is a wonderful orater and I could listen for hours. I do wish there were more ways of earning points, though. Straightforward grading and no surprises. Dream class. Plus, if you pay attention, you learn a lot of interesting information :) he's cute too
One of the best history classes I have ever taken. I would highly recommend Professor Haskins. He has funny stories and makes learning interesting. Grading is straight forward a mid term and final. 2 essay responses and 7 Id's for the mid term and final. You need to read in order to pick things out of the book to talk about on the responses.
Haskins is cool and knows a lot of history, but he tends to get side tracked and falls behind. He also canceled out class 4 times (3 in a span of 3 weeks) this semester. Since there are only two tests he grades easy, but you definitely have to try. I would definitely recommend for non-majors, but as a major it was a lot of info I already knew
This guy is amazing! Lectures are fun and you learn a lot. If you take good notes and pay attention, you can get away without reading the books. He is a really nice guy and is also very attractive!
Grade consists of 1 midterm+1 final, in which each consists of two essay questions and 5 identification questions. He provides study guides for both exams, &if you complete those, you should be set. He is very clear in what he expects on the tests, so follow his directions. Attendance isn't taken, but his lectures are amazing. Supplements w/media.
He is great! I was nervous to take American Studies but his lectures are so clear. He says books are mandatory to read, but honestly i didn't read any of them and got a B in the class. He is always willing to meet in office hours and helps you out by reading your rough draft for the midterm and final. I learned a lot.
Your grade is a midterm and final! Advice: go to class, take detailed notes, and scan the books. Study guide will be the actual exam so prep and memorize everything for your essays. He won't give short answer Qs but they're easy and talked about in class. Professor is hilarious. Seriously read the books or go over them a few weeks before exam.
Although professor Haskins lectures heavy, I would not mistake that for slacking off on personal reading. Some of your test questions are from lecture and others are from the reading in which he may, or may not have gone over in class. He's nice, approachable, and willing to offer good feedback - all great qualities in a professor. Good luck!:)
Professor is great, but the course itself can be challenging as it is comprised of only 2 tests. He actually grades tough too. He does not use ppt or anything like that, only lectures straight off from his memory. So it can be tiresome especially if it is a 3 hour class. NO HW ATTDNC NOT REQ'D
prof haskins is something else! he teaches history, knows we are all in there because it is a GE and makes it entertaining for the class. grade is determined by your midterm and your final. no homework and no papers to write. if you choose not to read make sure you take good notes!
Haskins is awesome. Great professor and gives amazing lectures. Doesn't use power-point so I would suggest going to class even though its not mandatory. Grade is based off midterm and final which is an in class essay, therefore take good notes and skim through the books! Honestly though I passed the class with a B and I didn't fully read the books
Haskins' class may seem easy, but he's a tough grader. I didn't read the books because they were difficult to comprehend. Go to class and take good notes, they will help for the 2 essay tests, but you should look at the book for key details to make it look like you read. He doesn't give you many points on the exams if he can tell you didn't read.
Has a great understanding of the subject matter. The tests are extremely important but he gives you the questions ahead of time. Bring up things in the texts that he doesn't talk about in class and you will do well.
He is a really cool professor, passionate about American Studies, and knows what he's talking about. You must attend class and take good notes because he does not use powerpoints. You must read the books because he doesn't give you points on the exams if you don't talk about the books. Overall, great professor made it really interesting!
Prof. Haskins pop culture class was very interesting. Be sure to keep up with the readings and take notes in class. There's only a midterm and a final, both have ID questions and essay questions, the latter of which can be prepared for on the study guide.
The class hinges entirely on two tests: the midterm and final. Zero homework other than keep up with the readings. Haskins doesn't screw around on grading either. Main complaint is his style is 99% lecture with no dialogue with students. His material is interesting and entertaining, but it's a lot of just listening without pause.
Prof. Haskins will talk your ear off but his lectures can be really interesting. Grading includes midterm and final on the books he assigns. Read the books and try not to fall behind. Not a tough grader, he uses a grading system where he only gives you points if you're right. Overall, he's a really good professor.
Grade is on two tests. I have had other AMST teachers that I like much better but he isn't bad. His grading is a little hard and he talks a lot. Repeats himself many times, but he is still a good guy. Lectures are mainly about what is going on in the book. Read all the books!! I skipped class a lot but still was able to keep a decent grade.
Class is Midterm and Final. Make sure to keep up with the readings. Exams are 7-8 essay questions he gives in advance but only 4 are on exam and you have to write about two. He expects you to write about the book and lectures, but mostly the book. 7 ID questions and only write about 5. Take if you are good at cramming.
The lectures are mandatory if you want to pass, very heavy note taking but he makes it enjoyable to listen to and he's a super cool guy. We only had a midterm and a final but he made it clear on the material we needed to know. I would definitely take his class again!
Prof Haskins is phenomenal! Makes learning about history fun and interesting. He is very approachable and always willing to help! His exams are entirely written but don't let that scare you! He's a completely fair grader with a crystal clear criteria of what he wants. To do well on the exams attend SI sessions, read the readings and ATTEND LECTURE!
literally the worst professor. he does not care about your grade. don't take this class. he's super broad about his topics in class and expects too much from students in his exams. his total grade is only the midterm and final so don't take this class.
Great professor! Made three hours bearable. Doesn't take attendance but come to class and write down everything he says if you want to pass. At least skim through the assigned readings so that you can include more details on the midterm and final.
Awesome lectures that you won't want to miss because they're so interesting. The books are actually fun to read. Only grades are the midterm and final. I didn't read the books at all, just went to all the lectures and read Sparksnotes, but I got As on both tests. He's very knowledgeable, funny, and approachable.
Lectures is just him talking, which is great, he's very knowledgable and the way he puts things into words makes the material fascinating. Time flies being in his class. I almost never take notes since its easy to remember things he says. Grade is just an in-class writing for midterm and final. Make sure you include a lot of things from the books.
Overall was a good professor, but I would personally not retake him because his lectures were just him verbally summarizing the assigned books. He grades on two things: a midterm and a final. Both are 5 IDs which are worth 6 points each, and 2 essays that are worth 35 points each. He grades these a quite specifically, but he gives you study guides.
Haskins is a really chill guy with a serious passion for the subject. Books are all fairly cheap and not too hard to read. MAKE SURE YOU READ! Only graded on midterm and final, both are in class essays on the readings/lecture material. Not a hard class, but you gotta read.
Read 3-4 really interesting books, powerpoint lectures, weekly reading responses (easy), 1 paper, easy exams if you read. His online class set up is easy to follow & he sends out weekly emails for remainders too. The class material was really interesting to learn. Professor seems like a cool dude:) I would definitely recommend!
I would recommend this class. He is a great teacher, but I didnt like how the class was just based on the midterm and final. You really need to read the books to get good grades on the tests, but if you put in the work you can do good in this class.
Haskins was one of my favorite professors this semester. His class is heavy lecture, but he is very interesting. The class is based off of the midterm and a final, the midterm is easy if you study. He is super caring and very understanding. Attendance is not required but is recommended. Take him!!
Haskins was unlike any other professor I have ever taken here at CSUF. He doesn't use powerpoint to present his lectures. Instead, he uses storytelling to talk about the assigned readings. He does so in an interesting and funny way. All you have to do is listen and take notes. You'll only be tested on the assigned readings, nothing else.
Easy and interesting! He prerecords lectures. You can watch the lectures at your own speed. Theres a discussion question every week but as long as you write about 3 sentences you get credit. A 15 point quiz every other week based on lecture and book. I found that I don't need to read and still get good grades. Easy essay grader. Take this class!!!!
I took this class asynchronously and I loved it! Although theres a lot of reading the work load isn't bad at all. His class was super organized and easy to follow. Definitely recommend.
This professor is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. His grading is based of discussions, bi-weekly quizzes, and then 2 essays. Highly recommend him.
Great Professor. This was during COVID, with an asynchronous class. Watch all his lectures (it's organised so you can have a week to complete assignments) and you only get quizzes once every other week. 2 essays throughout the entire class, focus on those because they can make an impact on your grades. Good luck!
Haskins is awesome. We had asynchronous lectures on youtube. Bout 2-3 lectures a week ranging from 20-40 mins. (watch in 2x speed). He does weekly discussions, 2 papers, and unit tests every other week. His lectures are very interesting. you can tell her loves what he does! wish I took him while on campus. take him!! he's awesome and cares.
Honestly one of my favorited professors! Super caring and is willing to explain certain topics over and over until we understand. A funny guy and makes the lectures easy to understand! Definitely recommend
The class was graded by 2 term papers and weekly discussions, lectures were long however he makes the material interesting plus hes hilarious
LECTURE HEAVY! there are weekly discussions and 2 exams. the exams make or break your grade. he is such a funny guy and his lectures have no powerpoints, mostly just storytelling. overall, this was a great class, but you need to try to not skip class as his lectures are important.
Professor Haskins class was fun and easy. He has no powerpoint slides up, he just talks during class and make sure to take detailed notes to do well on exams! There were weekly discussion boards which were easy A's and he had a midterm and final exam.
Professor Haskins is one of my favorite teachers of all time! He is very knowledgeable on the subject as he speaks from his mind, he doesn't use power points. Weekly discussion post, Midterm & the final! He also literally gives you the questions a week before (free response) but it is extremely easy! Must come to class and take good notes though!
Professor Haskins is a great teacher! The lectures are fascinating, and he is a funny guy! Although an attendance is not mandatory, I would recommend coming every day because you will need to take good notes to pass! Discussion post weekly, 2 exams extremely easy! Take his class you won't regret it.
Haskins has figured out how to take history and make it fun. There is a lot of reading and some of it is a bit tough BUT he lectures each class on the items we are reading and brings it into terms used today. Take notes during his lectures, do the reading. Graded on discussion posts, mid-term and final. He is very interesting to listen to
Take good notes and attend all lectures and you'll pass with no problem.
As a freshman, Professor Haskins was a very good instructor. He made history fun and engaging, and I thoroughly enjoyed his course. There's a discussion post every week, and a midterm and final(Essays). Reading is mandatory, and I strongly advise paying attention if you want to pass
Lectures, Discussion questions, one Midterm, and Final. Make sure you read the textbooks, midterm and final are heavily tied in with the material discussed on the textbooks rather than his lectures.
Heavy on reading. There are weekly discussions that are doable since it's usually what was discussed in class that week. There is one midterm and one final which determine if you pass the class or not. As long as you pay attention to his lecture and read the books you'll be fine. Overall a chill and funny professor that is easy to learn from.
pretty chill professor, he's heavy on reading. he knows what he's talking about and knows how to explain things without over complicating things. there was weekly discussions just based on what you learned on that week, one midterm, one final, if you pay attention and show up to class it'll be easy for you.
Grade is 90% of your midterm and final. He gives you what is expected on the midterm/final. Reading is required. Lectures are easy to follow and doesn't read off powerpoints.
I love love love Dr.Haskins as a professor and highly recommend him! He's very knowledgeable about what he teaches and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He does review sessions that you can work on the midterm and final study guide and ask any questions. Reading is involved but his exams aren't difficult if you show up to the lectures and read.
Professor Haskins is such a great professor! He made the course material easy to learn and always offered a helping hand. I found his lectures to be very interesting and he had us read 4 books throughout the semester. There was a discussion post every week, 1 midterm, and 1 final. Midterm & final are easy if you attend lectures and read the books.
Haskins is a great professor! A very welcoming class for anyone getting used to the field. Haskins provides a variety of resources and discussion. Light reading coursework if you pace yourself correctly. Although attendance is not mandatory, many of the lectures will be great in case you slack off on your reading. 2 non-cumulative tests
Reading and lecture heavy. Professor is lively. Grade is 90% midterm and final where there the study guide didn't help. Only give essay portion of exam and didn't give us a list of people, noun, and place to study. Grades essay in a weird way.
Professor Haskins is a super cool guy, and is a very easy grader. Discussion boards are a weekly assignment that you have to respond to one person for full credit, but are very easy. You don't have to read the books, but it does help. He posts all the slides and lectures, so attendance isn't mandatory.
Lecture heavy you just sit there and take notes no group discussions in class which I liked. Discussion boards every week were easy but not worth much. The exams are essay format and you have to be thorough. I do wish the exams were not worth as much (they are about 45% each, two exams total) and that we had other assignments to boost our grades.
Barley passed this class, one of the hardest classes I ever took. If you aren't a good essay writer don't take this class because both midterm and final have essay questions (no multiple choice) and these were 90% of your grade (45% midterm, 45% final, and 10% discussion posts). He gives you the essay questions in advance for study. Lecture HEAVY.
I greatly appreciated Prof. Haskins's style of tests. It gave me the incentive to learn and understand the content, which I don't get with standard multiple choice questions. The readings are quite dense and somewhat difficult, but they are absolutely worth completing to fully understand the lecture materials. Overall a great and engaging professor
I loved Professor Haskins. I'm not a big history person but he made his lectures entertaining. He is big on outside readings and he only had the midterm and final that make up 90% of your grade, but if you do the readings and show that in your essays you're guaranteed to get an A.
Professor Haskins is a great teacher - his lectures are engaging, and he provides helpful resources. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the readings. I found Unstuck ai useful for studying alongside the textbook.
My favorite professor I have ever taken. Although his lectures could be boring sometimes, he kept them engaging for the most part. I only had two exams, and they were essays. As long as you show you read and did not only take notes, he'll give you tons of points on exams. This is the easiest A as long as you're a good writer and study lots.
Says he accepts late work with a penalty, so I tried to get in contact with him to do so. He never responded to a single Canvas message or email. He was not present at his own office hours. I tried over the course of months to reach him and never got a response back. I have the work done but can't turn it in because he is unreachable.
Lectures everyday but they are on canvas. Midterm and final are the main grade, he gives you a study guide beforehand. Discussions every week; they are 10 points but they don't really help your grade. The midterm and final are the same two essays and 5 definitions as long as you do the two essays you will get a C.
As long as you skim the readings and find some examples from the readings that's all you really need for your essays. He actually lectures and doesn't just read off the slides which is nice. Every exam I was unable to finish at least one essay and I still got an A on the exams, so as long as you do some reading you will be fine!
The professor gave interesting lectures that helped me learn a lot. However, the criteria for the first essay left me and my classmates a bit confused, but he did say he will make it clearer in the future. There is a short discussion post due every week and two essays. Overall, easy and interesting.
The professor was very lecture-heavy and talked a lot during his lectures, Assignments are simple, just 1 discussion post per week talking about the topic related to that week. Overall he isnt a bad professor just listen to his lectures and take notes, Reading isnt mandatory but he does say to read them
We had weekly discussion posts (only had to be three sentences) and reply to a classmate. There were two papers (minimum three pages) based off the video lectures. The feedback and grading for the papers was confusing; however, if you attend his office hour he will clear everything up and give you feedback before submission. Would take again
it was a breeze taking amst201 through Professor Haskins. although his lectures were mostly boring, he would crack some jokes (some cringe but others were actually funny). he has a written midterm + final that is solely based on the readings/lectures so go to class and read the assigned chapters if you want a perfect grade. overall, a chill class.
10/10 professor, such a caring and genuine guy. 4 books you gotta read but if you dont youre gonna be pretty lost so read them. Ask questions, seriously this professor is so kind and genuine when it comes to answering them. Amazing thoughtful lectures too. Do the readings, ask questions, go over slides and you'll be just fine. Real funny guy too!!!
The majority of your grade relies on his two essays that act as mid term and final (Around 80% total). Make sure to go to his office hours to help clarify on what to do and what he's looking for. Overall, not a hard class, prof seems nice, provides free textbooks but if you're not the best essay writer, maybe consider taking another prof instead.
