You NEVER know what kind of stuff is going to be on the tests and you just pray that you will be able to scribble down something and get partial credit. YIKES!! I never really learned anything from class, just the book.
he is the best teacher if you are looking to learn something. but he's hard as hell.
if you want an easy class take someone else if you want to learn take this class
You will definitely learn a lot in his class.
You never know whats going to be on the test. Arent tests to be on what you already have learned? Partial credit is your friend. Most of what I learned was from the book. Class lectures are pointless and frustrating. He wanders around the room and loves the sound of his own voice. Hated this class!!
He was very hard and you need to work hard on assignments and essays to get a good grade. Although it is hard it is worth the work and by the end of the semester you really know your stuff. He likes to talk. He is a funny guy.
Horn is a character. He is a very good teacher, but class is very hard. What chem class isn't hard though? His tests only have 6 questions on them each and it takes you at least 4 hours to complete. He thinks up some pretty tough questions. He wanders around the room, and dresses unbelieveable
I really liked him & his way of teaching. His class is tough, especially if you have no science experience, but he will help you understand it.
Horn Is a nice guy. He knows his subject very well. He teaches way over the level of 1110. You will never know what is on the tests. The tests are awful. They take at least 3-4 hours. If you do not devote 24-7 to his class you will not pass.
Matt is a great guy, but an incredibly hard teacher. However, I learned so much from his class. He's great about answering any questions you have. You'll leave the class feeling like you really learned a lot.
This class is INSANE!!! His teaching isn't clear, the tests are a waste 4 hours, and if you aren't willing to devote yourself 24/7 you are screwed. I would recommend NOT taking him. He IS hard as hell!!! The only good part of this class was making fun of his clothes!
I d this class. I attended every session but most of what he was talking about was difficult for me to understand by the middle of the semester. True about 4-6 question tests. 100 points per test also. VERY HARD! I retook this class from another instructor (Jolene Davis) because I failed.
This class is very hard. Tests are 5 questions and they take about 5 hours because they are essay plus they include everything that you have learned throughout the semester. You learn a lot but sometimes it seams like he is making up his own science.
Matt is very intelligent when it comes to chemistry. Probabley the hardest teacher I have ever had, and I have had hard classes. But he was a great guy and willing to help and try to explain things to you. If you want to learn chemistry, take it from Matt, but if you want an A take it from another professor.
This class kicked my butt, but I LOVED it. It was totally doable and if you take the time to understand it you can't do wrong. He's fair enough to teach you what you'll need to know. He's always willing to take the time to make sure you understand it. For my first science class as a Freshman it was a little intense but I'd take any class from him.
this class really is insane. He knows his stuff too well and wants you to know just as much as he does. It is not a general chemistry class. Tests are crazy, the average score is a 55. You will not do well in this class unless you devote all of your time to chemistry. He is a funny man though, he wanders around the room and dresses up everyday.
Matt is a very very hard teacher. His tests kicked my butt, the average is below 50%. I guess I could have tried harder, but I had other class's to focus on.
Do not take this class if you need an A. I never missed a class, spent over 20 hours in the tutoring center, wrote almost every word he said, and I (was) a straight A student. Most of the tests are based on class notes, and when he makes mistakes in his teaching (which he does), you are screwed.
He is extremly difficult and you have to spend many study hours to even get a decent grade. If your not ready to work very hard on this subject then you probably shoudn't take this course from this teacher. Though I know when I take it over again it is going to be a breeze.
Matt is a very HARD teacher. If you are not a student who is an abstract thinker, then Dr. Horn is not the teacher for you. The only students who will get "A's" in this class are those who "see a pattern" in almost every piece of material they come across. Best of luck to anyone up for the insane challenges!
This class kicked my butt...HARD!
This teacher is nuts! Why is UVSC keeping him around?
I have never been more humiliated by a class in my life. Note to future student: avoid Horn or you will come home every day wishing you were blowing a horn instead.
The teacher is entertaining, but not when it comes to the crazy exams!
This was a very difficult class, but hey its chemestry. I got a B and studied myself mad for it. Horn makes class enjoyable and interesting. This class is possible with hard work. Tests are the hardest part! My advice is to make best friends with the peer tutors who know Horn's testing style, and visit them often- 15-25 hrs. a week.
AVOID HORN AT ALL COSTS!!!
WOW! This teacher is totally brutal, for sure! I studied my a** off for a C-.
My dream of going to medical school has been shattered, thanks to Dr. Horn. He is a very abstract thinker who tends to format his exams abstractly...DO NOT SAY YOU WEREN'T WARNED!!! Best of luck to anyone up to the challenge, or should I say challenges!
Matt is extremely intellingent and teaches his basic classes like they are upper division. Chemistry is hard enough but he makes it much harder. He does know his stuff really well and is a good teacher. He cares about the students. If you want to learn chemistry take this guy. If you are looking for a passing grade take someone else.
Matt Horn is a good teacher, but is also a hard teacher. He teaches the material very well and makes class somewhat entertaining. If you want to learn Chemistry take his class. If you don't want to learn about Chemistry and just want a good grade don't take it.
Only take this teacher if you have lots of time to relearn everything on your own. He's very confusing and very rarely finishes a problem in class so you have to figure how to do most of everything on your own. His tests are designed to make sure nobody gets a perfect grade, almost impossible. UVSC, not a good school to take Chemistry, bottom line.
Matt is hilarious! Very entertaining class. I really couldn't get enough of his bow tie. He definately knows chemistry. All-in-all it was a very difficult class, but when you really have nothing better to do than cram 18-25 hours of studing in the three days before each exam you can do quite well. it wouldn't hurt to flatten out the curve a little.
Dr. Horn is very brilliant man but he has a hard time teaching the information. He is hard to understand and he "tried to make information on test foreign to you". Expect to have this be your life for the semester.
Horrible Tests
Horn is one of my favorite teachers ever. His classes are huge and yet he tries to teach everyone individually. He will bend over backwards for anyone if they ask for it. He has a reputation of being difficult but on average, people do JUST AS WELL in his classes than any other teacher, and also understand the material far better.
The class starts out really tough and stays like that for most of the semester but Dr Horn is very helpful and has a very unique ways of teaching. It was worth it.
Matt Horn is a very hard teacher but very good. He requires you to think outside the box. There are daily quizes as well as daily online homeworks. You have to keep up and work hard if you want to do well in this class.
Very hard material. Make sure you read and take notes on everything...he writes fast. Funny guy. Even if you get a wrong answer on the daily quiz, you still get 2/3. Plus he offers a couple ways of getting a little extra credit. He'll help you if you don't understand something. I've heard worse about other teachers, so he might be the best one.
I loved his class, he is very difficult, but an amazing professor. I really feel like I understand chemistry after taking it from him. His tests are painful, but he grades on a curve. He is very fair, and really knows how to make a difficult subject interesting. I would take every class that he offered.
Great teacher but hard teacher funny people who left comments saying he ruined their dream of medical school. If you can't pass his class you wouldn't have made it anyway. Gamani's O chem tests are like 20x harder than Matt's. He teaches clearly and is very entertaining is class
He's a tough teacher, but he's very fair. He is the most entertaining science teacher I've ever had. If I take anymore Chemistry, it will be with him.
Dr. Horn is a great Professor and is very knowlegable. His test are hard true however very possible. The trick is know his notes and dont slack off. On the test he grades heavier on what you know than if the answere is right. So if you have a date the day of the test cancel and spend as much time as possible unloading your brain to paper.
Professor Horn is not for the student who wants an easy A. He is an excellent teacher with an obvious passion for what he does and he cares more about a student's ability to comprehend the concepts rather than their ability to answer multiple choice questions. I have never worked so hard for a class and I have never learned so much.
Matt's class is awesome. You learn a lot in this class. You can tell that he enjoys what he teaches and makes you enjoy it as well. He's pretty hilarious also. The downside is that the homework and tests are very difficult. You will need to study hard or you will fail. Overall though, he's an awesome teacher and I would recommend him to anyone.
One of the best professors I've had. Nice to take a class from someone who cares if you actually learn the material, instead of holding on to it long enough to repeat it, and then forgetting it. Just prepare well for tests!
class is somewhat mandatory - he has daily quizzes. to make you come to class he tells you that statistically your grade in the class at the end of the semester won't be higher than your overall quiz grade. the tests a REALLY HARD. You will need around 3 hours to take the test since it is basically based on how much you can write about the question
There are many things that could be said about HORN he has daily quizzes not only to assure attendence and if you actually read the assignments. He has three tests very very very hard tests so if you basically want to pass the class you better pay attention to him. He tries to make things as simple as possible but its not really working for him.
Do you want to learn chemistry? Take Horn. Do you have to take chemistry to get somewhere else? Avoid Horn. If your heart is not in it, YOU WILL FAIL.
Best prof. I have ever had! He truly cares if you learn something. Hard tests, but if you pay attention in class and actually study you'll do fine. If you really want to understand chemistry and not just "learn" about it take Horn's class! In my opinion you're paying for your education so why not make the most of it and actually learn.
Good teacher. His tests are very hard. The daily quizes make sure that you read the book, but he quizes are basically on just like vocabulary so they are easy. Overall a good teacher.
This class was extremely time consuming for me. But, if you put the time in and do the work you'll love Horn. It feels like a good accomplishment to do well in a hard class and learn something rather than to pay for a teacher to hand you an A instead of an education. You might not care for chemistry, but you'll love Horn by the time you're done.
Horn is the only one to take if you actually want to learn. You'll curse his name, but secretly love him! His test are very difficult, but it's very possible to do well. Go to him for help if needed, he's more than willing and very helpful. DO the homework!! It helps a ton on tests and cushions you grade a bit in the end.
You can tell he knows his stuff. This was the first Chem class that I have ever had, and I made a mistake taking him. Far Far to difficult for a beginner! While I appreciate that he's intelligent, I would also appreciate having a chance to pass the class. Try someone else is my advice (or you'll just be retaking the class).
Daily quizzes and weekly homework will help your grade, his tests are in essay form and quite difficult. He knows his stuff, is extremely helpful to students and is quite funny as well. His class is very time-consuming, but you will learn chemistry.
Dr. Horn is a great teacher. That said be prepared to work if you take his class. His test will make you scream in frustration. You will know chemistry if you take his class and pass.
I had Matt for both lecture and lab, which I'm glad for because if I had him for lecture only I would have thought he was a total jerk and I would have eventually run screaming from the classroom. He makes the class ridiculously difficult for an entry level undergrad class. Its a tough class either way, but I recommend finding another professor.
Professor Horn is one of the BEST teacher I have ever had. If you want to Learn to do chemistry take it from him. He really knows his stuff. I wouldn't recommend this class for slackers because it does require alot of time and effort. The best part were the exams, they are FUN.
Professor Horn FORCES you to LEARN MORE IN HIS CLASS THAN IN ANY OTHER CLASS YOUVE EVER OR PROBABLY WILL EVER TAKE!!his exams are difficult and FORCE you to KNOW thoroughly ALL information,BUT at the same time he makes his classes fun and keeps us awake through funny remarks! One part i love is that he says THANK YOU after every class!Thats respect!
Great teacher! If you are going to take any further Chem courses then it would be a good idea to take him. You will get a great understanding of concepts that will apply to future Chem classes. He designs his tests to test you way beyond what you are capable. He grades on a curve so that helps.
If you're looking for an easy "A", turn around and walk away from Dr. Horn's class. Although his tests are ridiculously hard, you will know (or should know) Chemistry when the semester is over. Overall, this class is freaking hard, but can be rather entertaining with Dr. Horns jovial remarks.
Dr. Horn's class was one of the most enjoyable classes. yes he makes his class hard but I remember everything he taught us and I loved how everything is connected through his class. If you are looking for an easy A this is definitely not the class for you... but we are in college... There shouldn't be an easy A. We need to work to learn.
Dr. Horn is incredibly well-versed in chemistry. There is no better class to build a foundation for chemistry. However, if you want an easy A, this is not the class. To get an A, you need to study hard, use the tutor lab and create study groups. But, it is worth all the hard work at the end of the day!
If you are looking for an easy A, then look elsewhere. You can get an A, but it won't come easy. That being said, I loved the class. He teaches theory, not just math and terminology. Be sure to stay on top of the homework and reading, and don't be afraid to ask him for help if you need it. After you take this class, all other science is easier
Class is way harder then should be for a basic level chem class teacher really likes to show how smart he is by trying to make everyone feel dumb Test are essay based and not much trouble if either know stuff or just be able to BS decent can get a ton of partial credit. I would suggest not taking class in summer in normal blocks would be better
Dr. Horn is a great lecturer. I very much enjoyed going to class. As stated however, his tests are designed to make you cry like a little baby, and they will. However, it is designed to make you learn, and you certainly do, and they are graded generously. If I have an opportunity to take a chemistry class from him again, I will jump at the chance
Changed to the POGIL system this year. Multiple choice exams, minimal lecture, group members teach each other. When we ask him for help, he asks what our group thinks; our group has no idea. I feel obligated to spend countless hours teaching my group member that has no idea what's going on. Great guy, just hard-headed.
Very helpful teacher, he lectures very little but very well. He answers questions clearly. His tests are incredibly hard.
Seriously loved this class. Dr. Horn is one of the best teachers I've had at UVU. He expects a lot from his students but if you keep on top of the work you will absolutely love him.
As has been mentioned, Professor Horn has switched to a teaching style where students teach each other and Horn himself simply answers questions. If you've taken Chemistry before you'll learn a lot from this class. If you haven't, you'll be drowned in information. Should you take him, take advantage of his office hours he will help with whatever
Very difficult grading, will not give an A unless you know as much as he does. Literally, he said if you get an A on an exam, then he doesn't know how much you really know.
He is so Hot & Hard! I put in a lot of time and still didn't get the grade I wanted...
He is a hard prof. Not super helpful, very philosophical.
Unless you love the subject of Chemistry more than life itself, his class is for you. Otherwise you'll leave the class everyday hating it more than the day before.
He is hard, exams are very difficult, lucky to get 80.
Horrible professor. He doesn't teach. He just gives you a packet and makes you figure it out with a group of students. Don't ask questions. If you ask them in class he makes you feel like an idiot, and if you e-mail him he reads the e-mail, tells you he read it, and then won't answer your question.
This class is for those who love chemistry and will never change their minds about their passion for it. For those who are taking it as a requirement and couldn't care less about chemistry-- STEER CLEAR OF THIS CLASS. It's a mess trying to teach yourself.
Worst teacher ever. he refuses to answer your questions. he tries to be really philosophical and he thinks he's chemistry god. you can ask a really simple yes or no question and he'll respond with some BS like " it is what you make it". steer very clear of this class unless you like to be jerked around and learn nothing.
Things I learned in class: 1.) Truth is relative to group consensus. 2.) The goal is to ask a question, not learn the answer. 3.) Whatever you are learning now will be found to be irrelevant later so don't worry about it. 4.) You will learn things beyond the scope of this class but still on the test. 5.) Never take Dr. Horn for Chemistry.
It's not that he's a difficult professor teaching a difficult course. It's that he is an unfair professor. First test was a higher math test. Second covered 6 chapters. No answers to check if your teaching yourself correctly. Also, he takes credit for those of us who do well, saying its POGIL. Take Heaton or Ind Study or BYU in the summer. Not Horn!
Dr Horn knows a lot about chemistry however is still learning to teach. He has correct principles in that he promotes students teaching themselves thus having a higher learning rate and retention rate, however, he doesn't do any teaching himself. there must be a balance. Steer clear of his class, when you take it, work hard and expect a C or less
Students are placed into groups and then told to work through a workbook. VERY little lecture. The coursework is designed to ask questions BEFORE you learn the material in order to make you get it wrong and then be motivated to figure out what the REAL answer is. I would have preferred to have the material taught to me in the first place.
This course was more difficult than I expected from an intro-level class. Nevertheless, if you work hard, you'll learn a lot. Tests are incredibly difficult (plan on 2-3 hours ea.), but he does grade on a curve and is helpful if you take advantage of his office hours.
Avoid taking Matt if you can. Put in groups, taught yourself out of a workbook. Very little lecture. Plan on going to the chemistry lab and having a tutor teach you, because Matt doesn't. Tests are hard to study for because the workbook does not prepare you and the homework is a whole lot easier. Tests were VERY hard, grading curve messed up.
This guy is the worst thing that has ever happened to chemistry. Horn and Andres should get together and start a course called "do everything by yourself cuz we hate you and don't want you to learn"
A lot of people don't like Dr Horn but I would say that he has been one of the best chem professors I have had. He's hilarious and you can tell he enjoys what he does. He's very approachable and if you show him that you want to learn the material, he'll like you. Cool guy in my opinion. Tests can be difficult but the curve is awesome.
professor horn give you the option at the beginning of the semester to determine how he weighs the grades and he is very fair. a lot of the work is done in groups and his homework is extensive but it was a very helpful study guide for me. just dont miss a single class period and do all the homework on time and you can pull of a B without much work
I respect Prof. Horn as a person, and I admire his intelligence. Prof. Horn however is not a great teacher. His teaching style doesn't work well for students trying to learn BASIC CONCEPTS as required in chem 1220. He likely benefits advanced chem students, but as stated he doesn't work well for the beginning student.
Great teacher, split you into groups and had you self teach and he was there to clarify any questions. Very little lecture but I felt like I learned the concepts better this way. Tests are hard but you choose how your grade is weighed (pick the 20-20-20-20-20) you'll know what I'm talking about if you take him.
Do not take this class he doesn't teach. You do worksheets to teach yourself. He lecturs for about 10 min and that's it. I got a 5 on my AP chem exam in high school and this class is still hard. In free responses he doesn't really clarify what he wants so you never get full credit. I did the work correctly, only got 3 out of 10.
One of the absolute worst professors at UVU. The class is hard and he makes it that much harder. If he is your only option don't take it. He brags about how hard test are. Avg on one test was 55 on a class with over 150 students and he said he was impressed that people had such a high average. Avoid at all costs!
He thinks he teaches POGIL, but the "G" in POGIL method stand for "Guided" which he doesn't do. He is lazy. If you go to his office or stay after class to ask him to work out a difficult problem, he doesn't ever do it. If you ask for a way to see the steps, he doesn't give it. When people say he is "fair" it's due to his ridiculously huge "curve."
One of the most unhelpful teachers when it comes to teaching. If you like teaching yourself than this is the teacher for you. It isn't very helpful when you and your group have no idea what he is even teaching on. I would say never take it from him.
My worst experience in this university so far. Absolutely confusing, you go take the test equally prepared every time, and one time you get an A, another a C, then A, then C... random. Infuriating experience, I get 100%s in high math classes and came out discouraged from his class. Avoid at ANY cost.
Avoid! He's is arrogant. ACS test scores are national. We do terrible on it here at UVU. Take Chem - both semesters - at BYU or the U in the summer. Not with him. Not with him. Not with him.
This class has very little lecture, but when he does lecture PAY ATTENTION. Those concepts usually end up on an exam. You work out of a book in groups every class. 3 midterm exams written by him, final is a national exam, mastering chemistry hw each week. Would have gotten a better grade had I put more time into it.
This class requires alot of self teaching. I liked the class and the group that I was assigned to. YOU MUST GO TO CLASS!! He does in class clicker questions that are graded. He responded to questions very quickly. READ THE BOOK!! Make sure you know your stuff, because its up to you to learn the material. He doesn't lecture in class at all.
He is actually funny and very passionate about chemistry. He understands that this class is a lower level chemistry class and doesn't require you to know things above this class. He responds to questions quickly and helped with any problem I had. You are responsible to teach yourself. This class is in no way a breeze go to class and read your book.
He puts you in a group of 3 and gives you ChemActivities to work on every day. He lectures for 5 min. and then leaves you with your group to figure out how to do chemistry. When I asked him a question he responded "Look it up in the book". This is a teach yourself class. Don't expect to learn anything from him. Worst "teacher" I've ever had.
Don't take chemistry from Horn. He is more concerned about how your are participating in his POGIL project then teaching. Sometimes he answers students questions, hit and miss. Most of time spent working in groups. Very little lecture. Homework solutions are hidden by the professor. Does not teach. "Engaged learning at UVU"?
My advice: Don't skip class, do the homework problems, and ask for help if you need it. Horn goes straight to the tutoring lab every day after class and if you ask for help, he gladly will. Don't underestimate the exams. Try to study with someone else who is in the class. Teaching each other and learning together will help you more than book work.
This is the most frustrating class I have ever taken. He literally does not teach. He gives you "chemactivities", and you are supposed to learn from your fellow students. The only plus is you get multiple chances to get the correct answer on tests(it's on a computer). I would not recommend him at all.
There's not much lecturing, mostly group-work, and a lot of self teaching. A lot of people don't like the way it's set up, but I don't mind it. Teaching this way forces students to actually LEARN the material, and it makes the final a lot easier. The class isn't easy, but it's not really supposed to be. Get to know the people in your group!!
He is a great teacher, when he teaches! Which is not very often. He knows the subject very well and is passionate about it . However he hardly lectures. The first day of the semester he sticks you in groups and you better hope you get a good group because you will be each others teachers for the semester.
Prof. Horn's class is extremely difficult. Group work every single day. Daily assignments can be confusing at times. Exams are super frustrating and hard. The worst exam set up I've experienced at UVU. He seems super unapproachable in class. That being said, one on one, he is one of the nicest dudes. You can go to him and he will help you out.
Do not take him! He is more worried about his "group study" than the students. The average on the final was 65% and that is considering the curve! I ended up with around 85% on the final, and I ended with a B. The tests are only 15 question each so if you miss 3 your already below 80%. He lectured for a total of a couple hours in the semester.
Literally the worst teacher I've ever had! Do not take his class!!!! The average on every test was below a 65 percent. I studied everyday for at least 2 hours. The tests aren't relevant to anything you learn in class. He doesn't teach you anything. I ended up with a 79.82 percent in the class and he wouldn't round up to a B- for me!
Literally the worst teacher I've ever had! Do not take his class!!!! The average on every test was below a 65 percent. I studied everyday for at least 2 hours. Dr. Horn has a very unique teaching style. In short he doesn't really teach. Everything you need to know will come from the textbook, the in-class activities will just confuse you and waste your time. His tests are super vague and hardly reflect what was learned. This class does not prepare you for later chemistry courses. Find another teacher.
He has you discover the chemistry. This has you understand why the rules are the way the rules are and understand why things work the way they do.
Extremely difficult grader. I took his chem 1 lab and it was way more difficult than it needed to be. He was always behind on grading so I never knew what to fix on my reports to make them better the next time around leading to more bad grades. Expects a lot, quizzes are essay format, will doc crazy points for small mistakes in the report etc.
His "teaching style" is a joke. Be ready to teach yourself everything or hope you get placed in good groups with other students who are actually able to help out. His whole method is to put students in groups and watch them struggle to figure everything out rather than lecture and actually teach them.
This class was very rough. Group assignments constantly. My 1st group sucked, had to learn half the class on my own. He will answer questions but expect him to talk quickly. His lectures are a joke because you pretty much just teach yourself within your group. HW IS HARD most of the time. His tests are EXTREMELY hard. Averages are 40-60%.
The correct spelling of his name is Matthew Horn, so if you need any more convincing to not take his class go look at his RMP. He is horrible, every negative comment is spot on. However my biggest grievance is that he is a slow grader and a very tough grader. He waited until after the final to start grading 2/3 of the assignments. Horrible person.
This guy needs to go back to school and find out what its like to not get your assignments graded in before the end of the semesters. The what-if calculator doesn't work very well when you have to guess on like half the assignments he hasn't been bothered to grade yet. THE WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Save yourself, don't jump on the sinking ship
If you are planning to go to higher education in the Sciences, Dr. Horns class is for you! He preps you on how to see and study any science. It will probably one of the hardest classes you will ever take, but if you are on top of things and show up to contribute, you will leave Dr. Horns class feeling like you got more than your moneys worth!
Professor Horn put me in a random group with people. After a few weeks only me and one other kid were consistently showing up. I emailed him asking to be put into a new group and he promised he would. Well... I emailed him 3 times over the course of a month and he kept making promises and didn't follow through. He is a very flaky and bad professor.
Dr.Horn is not an understanding professor. As a cornerstone class there is only 1 option for students to take. If you can't be online for class at that specific time beware, he will drop your grade. Attendance is mandatory. He also is a very biased teacher when it comes to certain topics, so get ready for him to try to indoctrinate you!
90% of my assignments were not graded until after the semester ended. My final reported grade was submitted, and I still had 5 ungraded assignments. Professor was almost impossible to reach. Class heavy, I did not like going through the class not knowing my grade for as much work as we had to do. I personally would not take his course again.
This class was actually a 1 credit class. I actually learned content that i felt improved my life as well as my future carrier. I would take Horn again. He cares you actually learn instead of just jumping through hoops. I don't feel like any assignments were busy work.
Classwork is purely group work and almost no lecture, be prepared to do the reading before. He has found ways to challenge his class in ways I've never had my professors do before and it worked really well. He's really passionate about teaching and making sure students succeed if you're willing to go to office hours. Would take him again for sure!
You better hope you get a decent group! 98% of the class is group work, and Dr. Horn spend maybe 3 hours lecturing the entire semester. Read everything on your own and hope you don't need help because Dr. Horn is NOT reachable outside of class! Skip this professor!
This was tied with O-chem for the worst class I ever took at UVU. You have to read the textbook, do the homework, then come to class and do groupwork on an assignment that makes no sense? I learned nothing from this style of teaching and dropped the course pretty early.
