I had Matt Stanley for Med Math. If I didn't know how to do this math prior to this class, I don't think I would have passed. I actually had to tune him out during class so that he didn't confuse me.
Mr. Stanley teaches Math 4 Meds in his own style - doesn't follow the book... in fact I've studied everything in the book and did all problems... was still not good enough for him. He is inconsistent and you cannot understand anything he explains. NO BONUS points. You cannot get an A even if you are a math wiz. Want someone fair look elsewhere.
So happy I had Matt for med surg 1. Think he's the best out of the 3. I learned so much! Got a B and know my stuff. Matt's a cool guy.
Good Teacher
I THANK GOD EVERYDAY THAT I HAD MATT STANLEY FOR MED/SURG I. HE IS A BRILLIANT PROFESSOR. HE STILL WORKS IN THE FIELD AND USES RESOURCES OTHER THAN THE TEXT BOOK TO ENHANCE LEARNING. HIS LECTURES ARE INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE. I WISH I WOULD HAVE HAD HIM FOR CLINICAL ALSO.
the students that have a good experience with him usually have the same tone of skin as matt, and he makes special appointments/scheduled meetings with those special students, the minority that do make it out of his class have to get help from other sources to make it through
Matt Stanley was the best professor I had in my first semester of Nursing School. He teaches med/surg nursing in a very practical and interesting way. I am so happy that I had him as an instructor. (For the record, I received an A in his class and I am not the same skintone as Mr. Stanley, actually about 10 shades darker)
Stanley is a great teacher and he lectures really good. I had him for Medsurg I. He wants you to know for clinical everything he is teaching in theory. His testes were ok for theory until we got to the fluids & electrolytes. The final was extremely hard. You have to study like crazy for this class. Half of the class failed. Good luck!!!
Pretty cool instructor. Helpful when needed. In order to do extremely well in his Med/Surg I class you must use other sources than just the textbook, and read everything. Also sometimes he would tell us to focus on something then it would never show up on the exams. But you'll know your stuff. Bonus - he isn't an eye sore.
You should take good notes. You can pass if you study hard. He said the Final would be easy but, in fact, it was very difficult!
great teacher. Very fair
THE CLASS TIMES IS 2 HOURS FOR LECTURE BUT HE WILL TEACH FOR ONE. EITHER HE IS LATE OR HE HAS SOMETHING ELSE TO DO SO YOU LEAVE EARLY BUT THIS IS TIME THAT HE COULD BE GOING OVER FOR THE EXAM OR TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS. OR TO HELP!!!!!
Matt is most likely ALWAYS late!!! He does go out of his way to meet with you though and discuss questions you are having.... NO IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT SKIN TONE YOU ARE! maybe he just saw how ignorant you are! But you HAVE to make an appointment with him because he leaves early too... God forbid he misses a football game to lecture us!
Matt is one of the best teachers in the nursing program! He is very knowledgable. He will do what it takes to see you sucessed. He may not be easy but your going to school to be a nurse! I would take him for all my classes if I could. I can't say enough about him. Thanks Matt!
Matt is the best instructor you could ask for. He is patient nice and kind. I do not have the same skin tone as Matt and he is always approachable and nice every time I talk to him. His tests are not set up to fall you. and if you listen to his lecture you will pass.
Matt is so far the best instructor that I have had! He is fair to everyone, doesn't try to confuse you, and tells you what you need to know. I wish the other instructors were a little more like him!!!
Matt is awesome! Record his lectures and actually listen to them, you will pass his class. He is fair with bad test questions. If you can find it in the book he will give you credit. Over all great experience! Thanks Matt!
Excellent instructor!!! I am very glad he is my instructor. You will learn a lot from him. Listen his lecture records, read Iggy, you will pass. Highly recommend!!!
mr stanley is agreat teacher. he really knows his stuff. i wish he was in all of the semesters of nursing.
I don't know what these people are talking about but he is a horrible teacher and it makes no sense that he plays favorites.
he was a horrible instructor. As much as you study you still feel like you do not know anything especially when reading the test. listen to his lecture and do not believe him when he says practice from the nclux.
This was a team teaching class. One of the worst experiences in my life as far as education goes. I did learn a lot but had a hard time being prepared for quizzes and exams. A lot of confusion
OMG... he wrote the good ones himself. He is always late, gives you tons of handouts (as if book isn't enough) and is arrogant. He lectures on about 20% of what is actually tested on. The rest is up to you. Try for diedo or peltz... Matt is to busy to teach. I got a b...but studied my fricken butt off.
Very unorganized and poor teacher.Should not be allowed to teach. Many students complain at his brutal tests that have nothing to do with his lectures.Very unfair. Worst teacher I have had in my entire life. Why doesn't administration monitor what he does?
Very dificult lecturer does not know what he does most of the time.Very rude and but has eyes for cute girls in class and talk to ladies without respect even his fellow lecturer mary she treats her like a fool infront of student
Not Hot. Obviously wrote his own good feedback, he is not a "great" teacher. He's hard, arrogant and expects way too much for 1st semester clinicals. I never wrote about him when I had him...last year. I would take him again, because even though he's horrible, there are worse instructors as you go on. Especially clinical instructors. Good luck
He was fair. And people know it.
worst teacher i have ever had. Mean at clinicals u can't ask him anything go to the nurses before him. Every day a girl leaves crying. He makes up lies about the students and never says good job.In lecture he has the hardest tests. 90% of the class is failing. My advice is study, read, study, take notes from book. You can always use the book to figh
GET MATT FOR the first 7.5 weeks, second 7.5 weeks and for clinicals. He is the best for clinicals, you will learn and do more than anyone else. He is hard and if you take him your going to wonder why anyone would recommend him but you will be prepared and ready for medsurg 1. Know information out of boxes, most test questions are from there.
Do not take him
Matt is very fair. I was very lucky to get him for my fist 7.5 weeks. He is hard, but, it's only to your benefit. Make sure read everything he talks about. Always know signs and symptoms! He makes you feel at ease! Remember he was in your shoes at one time!!
Really nice easy going. You have to teach your self he really does not teach good. But his test are not bad kind of easy.
Good instructor. Pay attention, read boxes and in clinical "Have some confidence".
Needs stay in the curriculum intended for the class and not a different class such as Pharmacology.
Not bad teacher. his test are the same every year does not change them. Had him for lab first 7 and a half week, and did really good. Best advice try to find someone who had him so you can get the heads upp.
Makes mistakes on exam's, rewrites questions during the exam, gives you only certain amount of time, takes forever to get to you if you have a question during the exam, does not write clear questions or answers ( i think his questions are home made). Advice- whoever is taking his class needs know the signs/symptoms/interventions-know the BEST way.
really pay attention to his lectures,NEED to record them, he changes the schedule of things that will be covered on the test often, he talks to you like you are a nurse for 10 years already, everything he says is NOT on the test, Do not waste your time reading the book- only study what he lectures on! THE BOXES are IMPORTANT.
He wa not helpfull at all and expected everyone to know everything. He talks to you like you been a nurse for 20 years and expects you to know alot prior to coming to listen to his lecture that doesnt have anything to do with the tests. He gave our 112 class about 10 Pharm questions per test. It was just a level 1 med surge. For lab, he was oka
Don't know y eveyrone is leaving negative comments, clear with his teaching, when he lectures you leave learning a lot. He makes his tests hard, but it makes you change your way of thinking and the way you take tests. I have him for 111 and as long as you listen to his lectures and take his advice about studying, you will succeed and pass
I had him for all of med surg one, clinical and lecture as well as foundations! I would not be the nurse I am today if it wasn't for him and all his help. review the material before class, pay attention and take good notes during lectures, and if you have questions ask! I wish all my teachers were as helpful and as wonderful as Matt!
Matt is a great instructor. He gives minimal instructions because he wants to see how you handle situations. He is tough, and expects you to meet his standards. Keep up on lecture coursework and clinical will coincide. He is very knowledgeable and loves teaching. Great clinical experience!
Matt was the most unorganized teachers I have every had, He gets his information from where he has a full time job as a cardiac nurse, he is the only one who teaches this class so I suggest you get with someone in the program who has taken him already and get tips. I got 75% on the nose! studied my ass off
UGH! Matt is an excellent nurse, but bad instructor. Only the best students pass his class, so be on your game. READ! READ! AND READ SOMEMORE and you might pass.
I studied my butt off to get a 75% on the nose! which after having him as a lecture professor that 75% felt like an A! My advice is to pay extra attention to assessment and interventions! He is great with skills but lecture not so much. STUDY! STUDY! because lecture doesnt always match whats on the exams.
Mathew Stanley is an awesome instructor! Make sure you read and take good notes for his tests. He is extremely helpful and will make time for students who need the help. He will even do hour long study sessions before exams which is UNHEARD OF! I have learned more from him in 8 weeks than any other instructor. Take him if you get the chance. :)
Loved him!! Learner so much from his class. Read and study hard
This is a difficult course, but if you pay attention in class and read EVERYTHING you should be ok. Professor Stanley is fair and clear on what he expects of you. He knows the material inside and out, you can respect him as an instructor. So far this was the toughest class of Nursing school, for me at least.
By a mile, best instructor at this school. His exams are ridiculously difficult, however, his lectures are interesting, filled with real life examples & crucial information. Doesn't just read out of book like so many others. Felt completely ripped off not having him for clinical.
RECORD HIS LECTURES. They are gold! Test answers and tips galore if you listen closely. I learned so much in his class but his tests are hard. Study study study and you will succeed. He actually cares about his students and remembers you outside of class.
Mat Stanley is a wonderful instructor and a very nice person. Everyone should have him for clinical. You will learn alot and get alot of experience. He cares about the students and is always willing to help.
I had him for lecture and clinical for med surg 2 and I would 100% recommend him. I am a better student and will be a better nurse because of him. People who say he is too hard aren't putting in enough work. He is approachable and very willing to help you improve. TAKE HIM FOR CLINICAL. He will push you but I promise it is worth it in the end
Record his lecturetake notes and replay, it's beneficial. Ask questions & read entire chapter (anything can be a test question) & make sure u understand what u read. I wish u success.
I was terrified of Matt Stanley because of what I had heard about him. After the first half hour of class I thought he was fantastic. Amazing teacher! Explains, inspires and makes you want to be a great nurse. The class is tough and he does nothing to make it easy but he gives great lectures. IMO Mathew Stanley should be Dean of Nursing.
Excellent instructor. Heard how hard his class was before starting and I was worried coming in, however I was pleasantly surprised. He is an outstanding instructor and very knowledgeable about the material he is teaching. Pay attention and take good notes and you'll be fine. Wish I could take him again!
He has a "tell" regarding what is on the test, he gives eye contact when talking about the subject. He does cover every area on the test in his lecture and he allows recording so RECORD. I only got a "B" but the people that recorded him got "A"'s, wish I had recorded now. Honestly a very very tough test giver but the material is covered in class.
Mat was the first instructor whom I learned something from in the nursing program
Prior to registering for Nursing classes I heard the worst things about Stanley, and decided to not take him for clinical, BIG MISTAKE! If you have the chance, take him for lecture and theory, he is one of the BEST instructors at WCCCD and actually wants his students to pass instead of degrading them like most.
Very competent instructor; would take any class he taught. Wants all students to do well and will clarify information as needed. Seems grumpy but is actually very approachable.
best professor in program
Best professor I've had this far. Listen to his advice on test taking in the beginning. Assessment, intervention, will it kill you? He's really straight forward but you must put in the work. Has high expectations. Truly cares but won't just hand out grades.
Matt is the best professor in the nursing program. I recommend you take him for clinicals also, you learn so much. Be ready to work hard though. He pushes you and expects a lot out of you. Pay attention in class, take good notes, study every day, read the chapters and focus on what he tells you to focus on. Always be prepared!
Mat was an awesome lecturer he was very thorough with going over what was critical to know for the course. He mixed it up by showing videos, writing on the board, telling stories so it was not boring. You do have to study a lot to pass, read every night don't let it pile up. If you have a question about a question on the test speak up.
Matt is an amazing professor, hard but amazing. He makes everything make sense. He is by far the best professor I've had sense being in the nursing program. He is extremely TOUGH, but it's definitely doable. Would take him again in a heartbeat!!
Mat is a wonderful instructor!! He has a reputation of being hard, but if you record his lectures and study the material, you will pass the class with no problem. If you are looking to have a great nursing school experience, and learn a lot, I recommend that you take him for clinical as well. You won't regret it!
The best instructor in the nursing program hands down! I had him for lecture and clinical and he really understands how to teach a lot of information in a short amount of time. He does not read from powerpoints and the book like most instructors in this nursing program! He knows his stuff and critically thinking started in this course for me!!!
I had Mr. Stanley for both the clinical and lecture. I had a great experience with both. You will have to read to pass.
Do go to class and try to pay attention to what he says, cause it is all important. His tests were hard, but thats expected at this level. Would definitely take again! You go Mat Stanley!
Be prepared to study! This instructor knows his stuff and he can break down disease process you want to know about. Very, very, very knowledge. You can tell he is really passionate about teaching. Best instructor at Wayne county nursing program. His class is not easy but if you record and listen to lectures you should be fine.
Go to class and record his lectures. Very knowledgeable about what he teaches and you can tell he enjoys it. Best class and clinical I took throughout the entire program and he will definitely make you a better overall nurse.
Mr. Stanley is an amazing teacher. He challenges you and really makes you learn what is needed to be successful. I would take him again. Katie Vokes
He really is a professor that wants you to learn but I dont know that he goes about it in the best way. He 100% tries to trick you on everything. He is very knowledgeable but do your best to pay attention to his way and the right way. Sometimes it gets you the wrong answer. The good thing is he does try to be fair in correcting that. RECORD!
Wants you to learn and interested in your feedback.
I would take Matt again in a heartbeat. I had him for med surg 2 theory and clinical. You will not get an easy A. You will earn the grade you get from listening to him and asking questions. I am a third semester student and the only nursing professors I've had that actually teach are him and Dr. Olatunji. He will make you a great nurse.
I had Matt Stanley for MS2 for the second part of the fall 2023 course and I also had him for clinical at Ascension. I will do pros and cons PROS He knows his material inside and out Explains what you need to know For the final he was working with students a bit CONS Can be a grumpy man at times His tests are EXTREMELY difficult but doable
He decides what the right answers are, even if you have proof he's wrong. The HESI can save you or doom you, so study a lot for that.
Very difficulty but he is the only Professor teaching along with Professor Sheryl Thomas and her Daughter Dr O! They are the GOATS . Ps: Thomas is now retired and I graduated in 2022!
Professor Stanley is one of the worst professors I have taken throughout my college education. He is inpatient and yells at the students for little mistakes. He does not follow the textbook. He makes his exams from his head. BEWARE DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR CLINICAL YOU WILL REGRET IT.
if you have the option do not take him half of our cohort failed because of him. Try to take professor carter instead
I'm taking professor stanley now for lecture and clinical. He yells and screams during clinical. Last week he was banging on the tables like a psycho because a student made a mistake. Board of nursing needs to look into this guy
WORST PROFESSOR WCCCD HAS FO OFFER. HALF OF THE COHORT FAILED BECAUSE OF HIM. TRY AND TAKE CARTER.
Class was not structured and he was all over the place with lecture. During clinicals he belittles the students and yell as if he is talking to children. He teaches as if it is a refresher course and not to thorough. Gloats about failing students.
This teacher is the worst teacher in the whole nursing program, the staff know that and the deans and they still won't do anything about it. Do not take him for clinical. You have been warned.
Professor Stanley was a great teacher, everything he says in lecture is on his test. Most of the bad reviews are from students that failed the class or were on the brink of it. Give way to the bias and focus on you. I can admit the class was challenging but that's because the content was a lot (respiratory and cardiac) not because of who taught it.
Mr. Stanley's class was the most challenging thing I've done in my college career, however he is wonderful at lectures and really knows his material. Overall it was a very difficult class but it taught me hard work.
