Calling him a teacher is flattery, he doesn't deserve that distinction.

Really hard but really good with helping people during office hours. Explains things really well 1 on 1.
Dr Timm is a difficult teacher. However, he is also a good teacher. If you're willing to work hard, he's willing to help. He is extremely good at explaining things during office hours. He rewards improvement, not just perfectt answers.

Don't take him for calculus. He's great for upper level classes though.

This was a terrible course. Extremely hard, at least 10 people dropped his course. Plus a wierd teacher, likes to write phrases on the board such as if there is any justice in the world He rambles, and usually goes over his time limit. Impossible tests
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had, if you can even call him a teacher. Hates all girls in his classes, prides himself on the fact that most people drop the class or fail. Spends more time deriving the equations than teaching them. BIG JERK!
He is an awesome teacher, very hard but knows his stuff. He is willing to help and he grades on improvement so if you fail one test it doesn't mean you'll fail the class. If you want to learn and remember something, take him (good for math majors)
he was the worst teacher ever, he sucked, and he shouldn't be teaching!!
GREAT teacher! He is fair and willing to help all students. Whoever thinks that he is unfair to women has this guy wrong. Tough class, but WELL worth it... and I am a MUSIC MAJOR! I feel like I could TEACH calculus now! :)
This class is absolutely horrible. You need to do all the homework, and go in for as much help as you can just so you can stay above. There is a large curve though (55% = C)... Not inspiring in class, very dull and boring.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had!!!
A total ****. His tests do not reflect the homework whatsoever. You can study your ass off and see him weekly with questions, but won't reflect that in your grade. 10 ppl dropped the semester I took it. DO NOT take this teacher!!
Lots of people dropped, but I didn't think the class was that bad. He seems willing to help people, and accepted my homework late the one time I couldn't make it to class. HW sucks, lots of proofs, but he does some of them in class, so pay attention! :)
Not really the easiest Cacl teacher, but I think one of the best. He tests on knowledge of the concepts, so no test problems actually look like the homework, they are made up, but use the same concepts as the homework. I'd take him as a teacher again.
Class is kinda tough but you'll learn a lot in there. You have to study. The final is the best because if you improve on it he will give u that grade. I was getting a C the whole semester and got an A on the final and he gave me the A.
tough teacher, but huge curve.. a 55% is a C!
He has no idea what he's doing. I wish I would have dropped. Gives homework and quizzes on stuff that he hasn't taught. Boo-urns.
How is this guy head of the math department? Seriously I thought the head of the math department would be a good professor! Does not teach well...learn on your own and do average like I did.
i had him for 101 over the summer and i thought he was great. he has a way of explaining things in a multitude of ways so that every one can understand. i've never been one to do good at ANY math and i'm going to come away with a "B"

ive taken alot of math in my day, and i usually do good. and on his tests i always get all the questions right, yet somehow i still get low d's and f's on them, he is way to anal when it comes to grading, its his way or a bad grade. if your going into 118 your screwed hes the only professor.oh well
worst math teacher ever. If you have to take mth 118, you might as well not even go to class, cause he cant teach worth crap. His teaching makes no sense, and his tests are inpossible to get an A or B on.
one of the best math teachers i've ever had...very thorough in his teaching style and is willing to help if needed. i was worried when i saw the bad ratings he got on here but after taking him i would recommend him to anyone... calculus doesn't come easy you have to study if you want to get an A.
This is not hard stuff, and he can't seem to explain it at all. He tries, but he just can't make himself understandable. I'm normally very good at mathematics, but I've done very poorly in this class. If you have to take this class be prepared to learn the content on your own.

Linear alegbra is an easy subject but he makes it hard. take this class with anyone else. He grades inconsistantly and if you put 3 hours into the homework you might get a C.
Do not take Dr. Timm. His grading policy is completely random and unfair...I cant get any better than a 60% on homework assignments no matter how much time and effort I put in. His tests are graded the same way, which pretty much screws everyone over. Take anyone but this professor!

This is the worst teacher ever, it doesn't help when he doesn't show up to class the week of a test and blames it on the students for not coming to remind him he had class. His grading scale is terrible as it is nearly impossible to excel. He doesn't answer homework questions and diverts to examples that do not help at all, stay away from him.
I'm a student who excels in math. I have always had A's and A+ in hs and college level math (Calc I-III). Prof. Timm was honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. Grading was very inconsistent on EVERYTHING. Everything others said is absolutley true. Stay away from this teacher. HE made grading mistakes and I was yelled at for it. Do Not Take Him
Mr. Timm definitely knows his math stuff. I am not a strong math student at all and so I went in for extra help during office hours. He was very helpful and is a much better teacher than my last math professor. He makes math somewhat tolerable.
Timm is possible the worst teacher I have ever had. His grading scale is so random that you think you did well but really you didn't. I took Calc in high school and did better than I did in his class. It got to the point where I missed some class to get help from other teachers. Stay away from him if at all possible.
he was one of the worst teachers i have ever had
I thought i was going to fail this class but somehow pulled an A in the end. The final was a joke as long as you look over the material!! Good teacher. You can tell he is super smart by the way he teaches
Very smart teacher but makes Calculus brutally tough. He assigns graded homework every class and expects you to learn it on your own. The book only explains so much. Then the tests and quizzes are extremely tough. The problems are not even close to what he teaches. Studying is useless for 95% of the tests. Getting a C is near impossible.
ABSOLUTE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN in ANY subject. Timm requires you to memorize the derivations of impossible proofs, and grades you on insignificant mistakes. Case and point- I received a 6/10 on a problem for not putting a +- sign before a square root, despite being correct on everything else. An abomination of a teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Timm is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had in my academic history. His grading style is eclectic at best- I'm not perfect, but taking off 40% on a question because it "don't make sense" despite being correct seems a bit excessive. Also tests on material not in the book nor in lectures- only told to those who come into office hours!
Think about it this way when signing up for Dr. Timm's classes. You know those dangerous stop sign intersections that have the stop sign and the flashing red lights for double protection. Don't ignore the double stop sign protection when thinking about signing up for Dr. Timm's classes LOL.
Teaches math like an English class. Homework assignments and tests must match examples in class exactly (almost word for word) or he will deduct points. Advice: copy class notes for homework (with needed adjustments) and then study this (so you can write it word for word) for tests. Also keeping track of definitions and theorems is helpful.
This man is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my life. Not only is he bad at teaching but his grading is not understandable. If you don?t do the problems exactly like he does them they are wrong, any shortcuts are wrong, and the material he tells you to know for quizzes has nothing to do with whats actually on the quiz.
Worst teacher Ive ever had.
VERY bad teacher....take anyone else if you can
He presents math in an interesting way. He also has fun with his students.
Professor Timm is a nice guy. He shows examples and expects you to write them down. If you need help all you need to do is approach him and say you don't understand and he will make it his goal to make you understand. Doing the homework helps a lot!
Terrible teacher, grading system, help and opinion of students. Wants "his" method to be done word for word or step for step on everything, even if there is a proper shortcut.
Very smart man who knows alot about calc... hes very funny and my advice would be to go in for help even if you think you got it.. because his tests and quizzes are so hard!he really trys to help students all he can and always copy down what he puts on the board because it WILL BE IMPORTANT..take him because all the other math teachers suck
You must attend every class or u will be lost forever. He moves through the material very quickly and quizzes every monday. He tears u apart on the quizzes. tests are doable if u study A LOT. He only accepts problems done his way. Go in for help as much as possible.
I have Timm for MTH 122. The course is hard, no matter who teaches it. In the beginning i didn't go in for help at all, and i didn't stay awake in class and my grade sucked. as long as you pay attention and go to his office hours you'll do well. He's really helpful in his office hours, and wants you to do well. if you go in, you will do well.
Dr. Timm is an excellent professor, and is very willing to helps students during and after class, as well as during office hours. The class is difficult, but Dr. Timm is very clear about his expectations. If you follow his recommendations for studying, you can get at least a B. I liked him well enough to take his section for MTH122.
Excellent teacher for calculus, has fun with the intelligent students who are interested in the subject.... Very knowledgable and helpful, has a very good way of explaining things... Difficult course, but great teacher!
the material was difficult but he tried to get each student to understand it. very helpful outside of class one on one.
Found him totally useless. I love math, but he made me hate it this semester. It isn't much use to ask him a question. Because every time I did, he would talk in circles and then make you believe that you have an answer correct. After turning it in, he marked it wrong.. And be careful, he can make you feel stupid when you ask questions..
Smart and decent guy, but an awful teacher. Virtually no partial credit. Things he said weren't on the final were on the final. A 40% is a D, but good luck getting that with hardly any partial credit. Homework took hours. He's smart and helpful if you go to his office though. I would avoid him if possible.
I took Calc 2 with him. The class is very hard but he is very helpful during office hours. He tries his best to make you understand the materials if he sees that you put a lot of effort.
Professor Timm is an excellent math teacher. I have never been great at math, but I managed to do well in his class. He is extremely helpful if you make an effort and go to his office hours. Do not take Timm if you aren't up to a challenge, but if you want to leave his class with a clear understanding of the material, he is the one to take!
He is tough, but you will learn the material. Very willing to help if you are willing to put in the time!
He is too picky. He curves the grades on exams but it's really hard to even range in the curve.
I went into this class dreading it, but Dr Timm has made it my favorite class. If I had to take another Math class and I repeat "had to" I would take it with Dr Timm. He is very clear in his teaching skills and makes the lesson interesting. He is extremely helpful and his quizzes are very easy with choices of which problem you want to solve.
Dr. Timm will help you no matter what the case. If you are having trouble just go to his office and talk. He grades really hard, but also has a unique grading scale. He's also easier to understand than most calc teachers at Bradley.
He is a math teacher that actually knows how to teach math. I would not have made it through calculus had he not been able to explain what we were doing and why we were doing it. He was always willing to help if you had any questions, even if it was help on remember an algebra concept.
If you do homework every night, study for weekly quizzes, and go to office hours for help, you should be able to get an A (85%). 10 question exams, miss a couple and you're almost at a C. Is picky about showing work so learn what he wants. Get ready to take NON-STOP notes in class. But his notes are really good. I'd take another math class with him
He wore the same blue shirt everyday, and always messes up problems on the board and doesn't realize until after he's solved the problem. It's actually quite funny and entertaining. Other than that, he's helpful. Examples in class are much easier than homework problems and exam problems though. But he's willing to help, and material is easy.
He has been in too many "rock bands" in his day. Hearing students questions in the lecture hall is a task for him. Please refer to the syllabus type of guy. Overall, funny, pessimist at midterms, and easy to talk to when you know him. Show up to class, do the "practice problems" and you should do fine. ASK QUESTIONS, he'll love it.
Prof. is absolutely terrible, would not recommend.
I will admit that at the beginning of the semester I couldn't stand him, but he grew on me. He really helped me get a better understanding of higher level math. Go to his office hours. The more effort he sees you put in the more lenient he is while grading your papers. He bumped me up to an A because I went to talk to him a lot before the final.
If you go to his office hours you'll be more successful in the class. Utilize the tutoring and review sessions offered throughout the course. Professor Timm is a decent guy but he is meant to teach higher levels of math- has a hard time explaining the simple things and makes them difficult.
MTH109 was quite a challenge. After studying, getting tutoring every week, getting extra practice books - I was thrilled to end the class with a B. Timm was one of the most confusing professors that I've ever had. If you can take someone else, do that.
Dr. Timm is a solid professor for this course. His lectures were very beneficial (be sure to take notes) and he was helpful outside of class. This course was challenging, but I will have mostly fond memories of it. Interesting stuff for people who enjoy math, and a solid entry point into the world of proof-heavy high level math.
Professor Timm was one of the worst professors I've ever had. The only thing your grade relied on was test & webassign. Tests were the backbone of your grade & made up more than 50 percent of your grade. On top of that his grading is harsh. Constant studying and extra help is the only way to pass.
Professor Timm is a really nice guy and is willing to help when you need it. This class is hard and not as easy as college algebra taken in high school. Professor Timm holds high standards and is not the best at lecturing in class. However, he is a lot of help one on one. If you had to take him, GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He helps those who show effort.
Prof Timm was fairly good at teaching but it was obvious he was better at teaching harder math classes because he had a tough time making sure everyone was on the same page before moving on. This class was taught in a lecture hall which math classes should never do. It's more of a personal subject where there should be a smaller class setting.
Good professor to know, and talk to about mathematics in general.
He would teach very basic stuff then give graded homework assignments about very complex things. If you're an independent learner take him, if you are like most people it wouldn't hurt to find a new teacher.
Timm is a great professor for Calc 3. His quizzes and exams are very fair and I never felt like I was tested on something we didn't go over. His written homework is pretty difficult, but there's only a couple throughout the semester. Overall, he does a pretty good job at explaining everything and is always available to chat during office hours.
Exams were very fair. HW was pretty hard at the beginning but got easier towards the end. Tough grader on a couple occasions. Would take him again
A true gem!!! He really wants to see his students succeed! Even though class was online, he made in person office hours to help me better understand the material. He is always willing to work with you and break it down if that is what you need!!! He is very understanding of students' emotions and concerns. He will do whatever it takes to help!
I would definitely recommend taking a class with Dr. Timm. You do have to show up to class and actually pay attention. this isnt an easy class but he makes it so if you put in the effort, you will succeed. He is very helpful outside of class and makes sure you understand everything.
Dr Timm grades everything like "it's my way or it's wrong". I do all the work and getting the answer but then "oh I didn't do it this way, -5 points". I don't know how he's had a job for 45 years if this is how he teaches. I don't care that he's nice, I pay a lot of money to be here and I expect way better from him.
If possible, take someone else for MTH 207. Timm is a nice guy, and he clearly loves math, but you will need to sell your soul to the devil in order to get more than a 50% on homework. He grades extremely harsh, taking off nearly full points for minor errors. He's more lenient on tests. The actual class isn't horrible but it can be tricky at times.
I like him as a person. He frequently makes mistakes in his lectures but responds to correction well. If you want an A in this class, you have to be prepared to spend 10+ hours a week learning the material. He does grade extremely tough, but the questions he asks are usually ones we have gone over/seen before.
Prof. Timm does great teaching his classes but is a nightmare when it comes to grading papers. He often writes confusing statements on tests he hands back. Additionally, there are quizzes every Wednesday and lots of homework throughout the week. Outside of that, he is very concise with his lectures and is accessible outside of class.
He is a really nice guy, but he is very scatter-brained. It's very hard to follow his lectures. He's a very tough grader and takes off lots of points for simple mistakes. He is however very caring and lenient if you need to make something up. I like him as a person but not a professor.
Very Hard Grader
Yes, he grades tough. This is a class that you have to put a lot of effort into, but after all it is calc 2. He is very helpful when you ask him questions and come to his office hours. If you study and show up to class you will be fine.
Very fair. Exams aren't too hard, if you know the definitions and understand the hw and in-class proofs you'll do great. Dr. Timm is very accessible outside of class and the lectures are pretty clear. Gives pop quizzes on definitions so try to study between classes or at least memorize the ones he stars on the board.
