He is very clear and quite precise in explaning the different functions in the Math Lab. I have attended 3 different levels of math in his class.

He is a very smart guy. He knows the stuff really well. He gives a hard test, but since he gives a very good lecture, students should have no problem. I got an A in his class and learnt a lot!

I have always struggled in Math, but this guy is making it easier for me. He explains things thoroughly and will help in any way he can. You gotta do your homework, though cuz his tests are a challenge.

I liked him a lot. In fact, after moving on in math, I have not had one quite like him yet. He expects you to be an adult, so he does not check your homework. Will give extra credit when he returns tests late-which is almost always.

He is a very good teacher. I really liked that he was organized and very inteligent. I would take him again.

He is pretty good. Teaches well. He expects you do to your own homework though. Overall, I like his teaching and I would like to take classes with him again.

He will cover all the content and teach what he enjoys and mention other things, however, everything is on the tests in full detail. Make sure you do your homework(which he doesn't grade for completeness) and get his personal help on what you dont know. Also, ask him in depth about the final, spring '05 it was really really nasty and irrelevant.

He was always willing to go over the same problem until the majority understood the reasoning.

He can be a little hard to understand and he confuses himself when he teaches and ask students for help but he is a prety good teacher. His test are not too hard. If you need help he is very helpful and willing to help just go to his office. He has an accent, but u can usally understand him.

Sweet guy. Good at explaining his examples. Does examples out of the book which makes it easier to do the homework (which is short). Tests are pretty easy if you follow his directions and study the chapter tests. Has an Indian accent, could be difficult to understand if you have trouble with Eng. but I didn't have a problem. A good teacher and fun.

one of my favorite teachers. yes, he has an accent, but once you learn to deal with it he is really good. he is on the students side, he tries so that we get good grades and LEARN too. i really like his class, it was my favorite of the semester.

He is a good all around teacher and he explains things very clearly. But watch out for his tests. Unfortunately, he makes the tests really hard and he is too unpredictable as far as the material that he includes on them.

I wasnt too thrilled about takin his class after seeing what people had to say about him, but I quickly came around to liking him. Hes an *extremely* kind and helpful teacher. As long as you do most of your HW you'll do fine. I recommend him if you need 115.

He is a nice teacher, and he does explain. You just have to listen and get extra help at his office hours if you need to. Does lots of examples of homework in class and sometimes goes fast. Could be boring. But good teacher.

He is a good professor that is willing to help you if you go to his office hrs. Although the class was boring and the test were hard, he is willing to show you many examples to help you understand. And his accent is NOT bad to understand!

I had him for trigonometry. He's a very nice man. His accent is thick, but he's really willing to help and he's very funny. He really knows his math. He doesn't throw you any curveballs on the tests - every problem you see is one that was in the homework. Pay attention and you'll be fine.

Its hard to understand him at first but you get used to his accent. He as a sense of humor. I took AP calc in high school so it was pretty easy the second time around. Quizzes are every week but they arent too hard.

Pretty "meh" class, the textbook and homework were all online even though the physical class took place at the college. He can move a little fast through the material sometimes, but he's very good at explaining things and seems to know what he's talking about. I would have preferred a physical book and homework however.

I took his class a few years ago and had a good experience so I decided to take him again. He is very helpful, knowledgable, and patient. He grades fairly and is willing to expalin unitl you understand. I had no problem understanding his accent. I recommend him and will try to take another one of his classes' again.

Online homework and text. I prefer it much more than a real book. It automatically takes you to an example you need with a click, saves time. You can redo homework as much as you want. He drops all homework, all quizes, or 1 test as well, depending on what you did poorly on. Accent is fine. Speed is fine. Clear instructions. Funny.

He doesn't have much style and has an accent. This class comes with the added benefit of online help. In some cases you can guess the answers because of the multiple choices, no penalty for wrong guesses. It seems like he checks the homework occasionally before/after a test, he unlocks hmwk if you have conflicts. good work ethic got me throuh it.

He is such a great teacher. He is really there for the students and is very helpful and willing to have one on one time with each individual student who is willing to ask for help.

He means well as a teacher. He cares about his students and helps when you have a problem; however, the amount of online homework he gives is ridiculous. I spent well over 150 hours on the online homework and still did not finish it all. The tests are easy if you study the key concepts of the chapters and his grading is fair.

He is a good teacher and wants kid to learn but the amount of online homework is dumb. I you wait to the last minute you not pass and it is very mind numbing and repetitive. The class itself is not that bad

Great teacher. He really understands the material and goes over it enough in class so that the students can get it. Homework is online and helps with your grade. He gives reviews for the tests which as long as you do the reviews are very passable. The course might require a little background in calc. but overall great teacher

I am awful at math and had to take an the online class due to no transpiration. It was all self learning. He gave study guides which helped a lot. As a teacher he is a bit out there and has little communication skills. If you are self disciplined, then take it, if not find someone who is more hands on!

I really liked this teacher. He is actually really funny and I enjoyed his class. Hard though. Go to every class and study for tests but he is very understanding and overall good class

He was extremely nice and well mannered. Many in his class complain about his accent, but he warns everyone on the first day. He gives a lot of work, but in order to master mathematics this is necessary. He is a college professor, and conducts himself as such. I enjoyed every step of the challenge.

He goes too fast on topics. He doesn't care if you fall behind; he actually laughs at those people that does. If you don't ask the question then he won't help you or explain anything to you. All he does is give examples from the book as the lectures and expects students to know what he is talking about.

He is very friendly (welcomes questions) but extremely difficult! His tests are impossible but he is very generous giving points. The homework/quizes/practice tests are all online and are extremely difficult but are required. If you take this class, be prepared to spend literally ALL your time studying, practicing, and stressing over this class.

I love this teacher!!! He lets his students take re-take exams!!!! What's up with all the negative comments??? You get to take retake exams!!! Very nice helpful professor.

Mathews is genuinely a good guy & professor. But, this class was pretty horrible. I blame the textbook more than anything, as it just confused everybody. Whoever wrote this corroded piece of crap needs to refund humanity. Nobody was ever sure what this class was supposed to be. At any rate, the tests weren't too bad, and the HW was consuming.

I like Matthews, but his online statistics class was awful. Instructors should not be allowed to hand their job off to a textbook publisher's website! We used Pearson Mathlab, so online only flash textbook was a huge pain to use, questions were tedious and pointless. I give Matthews a B but this course and textbook deserve an F!

He has a heavy accent but is very funny and nice!

We used the online program ALEKS which is an awesome prgrom but means you need to be doing coursework almost every day.

Profesor Chakkanakuzhi is one of the nicest profesors I have taken and he is a real nice guy. There is a lot of homework which makes it easy to fall behind but if you need help Mathews is more than happy to walk you through any issue. I would toatally take him again.

Very good teacher. He used the program ALEKS for the classwork, which you have to keep up with daily, but it really helps you understand the material. It brakes everything down to simplest terms. If you email him, he is very quick to respond. He is very understanding incase you miss deadlines or something due to emergencies.

he's a nice dude. not everyone does, but i personally love the jokes he makes. he can be disorganized and confuse himself a lot but he's a generous grader. if only a few/nobody got a question right in an exam, he turns it into bonus points- i received a score higher than the perfect score because of that. exams are exactly like practice exams

If you're willing to buckle down and do homework work you will pretty much get an A... his practice exams are the exact problems as the ones on the real exam so there's no excuses. He isn't an amazing teacher or anything, but his lessons are fairly adequate. The online homework will teach you everything anyway provided you suck it up and do work.

The online math 60 was a breeze. No idea on the complaining of the work since just do the work assigned and you'll be fine. Tests were mostly the same as the practice ones, so it gave you a clear view on what to expect. Can't wait to take his online Stats class next semester.

Really prepares you for the real world. No hand holding here. I started the class with almost no knowledge of the material. My notes as well as my test scratch paper work went form resembling to a 5 year olds writing/drawing to an experience note taking and work doing journalist. Do the work, learn the material and realize how much you can succeed.

Professor used online program called ALEKS, which was very helpful in explaining every problem and how to do it, but you have to pay after a trial period. If you got a bad grade on a test, you are allowed a second attempt before a set date but you only retake the questions you missed. So if you get an 80% you have a second chance to up it to a 100%

Mr. Chakka is the best math professor I have ever taken. Between his funny notes and the easy to use MyMathLab, all of the material was easily ingrained in my brain. For the haters saying that you don't need to show up, that is if you are lazy and do not want to learn. The MyMathLab homework is a little plentiful, but all you have to do is do it.

This class has tons of homework, an online quiz for every chapter, and every two chapters there is an online exam and an in person exam. Sounds crazy, because it is. But Mathews online tests/quizzes have unlimited amounts with no penalty. And the biggest plus is the in person exams are EXACTLY the same as the online ones. Loads of work but easy A/B

This prof is so free. His lectures are really clear and easy to understand. The homework is not too bad.

The class was easy to get an A if you really want an A. The paper work was a little bit annoying but its not to much work to get done. He usually gives us extra time for our tests. The prep quizzes are very helpful.

Professor Chakkanakuzhi works hard to help students understand the material, they're open to discuss in more detail problems we did in the class along with encouraging students to do the best they can in the course. Taking CSE 21 at UCSD following this course, I was fully prepared for the material we worked!
