Professor Warnes is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the material. Expect a lot of reading. Homework is easy, he will critique your papers, and if you didn't get the grade you liked he will provide feedback and let you re-write. The take-home final was intense (a lot of writing), give yourself plenty of time to complete. Enjoyed the class.

Prof. Warnes is very helpful, and is always open to answer questions and talk about mythology even after a long lecture or during office hours. He's a new professor, so he has quite a bit to work on. The class is interesting, but I didn't care for the structure of the course. It was a long class with hardly any visuals to follow. My biggest concern with this class is that he doesn't posts grades, so you're left unsure of your exact grade until it's send to admin. Would take him again tho

You can tell he cares a lot, but the amount of work that is given is crazy. The class is set up to miss a few assignments, but that is not how I am wired. I want to complete every assignment, and the amount of reading and assignments that he gives makes it almost impossible. He is cool but it's the most work out of any of my classes.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you don't need this class or aren't an HRS major/minor. This is my last semester so I couldn't even drop this class for upper divis credits. ): So much reading and weekly writing up that can consist of sometimes 60 pages of reading. Take something else. He is nice though.

Professor Warnes is the professor you take if you really enjoy philosophy. His knowledge of the subject is unsurpassed and his course package for online teaching has had a lot of effort put into it. The videos are long, and the reading is hard, but the material is rewarding and you will leave his class with a new perspective about the world.

Professor Warnes is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are super interesting and informative. He is always willing to answer questions or discuss matters, whether in class or by email. PHIL 117 was a life-changing experience for me, as I was introduced to a wide-range of existentialist thinkers. Would 100% recommend!

ALOT of reading and I personally had a hard time reading it, it was not easily digestible. Weekly discussion usually required two different sources to read. Course consisted of weekly discussions, 4 reading responses (2 pg paper), the midterm was 10 written response questions, a creative project, a final paper and a final exam. BUT 5 chili peppers

GE course that's feels upper division. Crazy how this class had more work than my SOC Upper divisions. This course required a lot of reading and writing with a minimum of 2 paragraphs, 8 lines. I should also mention that he was irritated by how little attendance there was in his OPTIONAL meetings. Can't get upset if you made zoom meetings optional!

I had more work to do in this course than my degree courses which is baffling to me. You definitely have to work to pass this class. Lots of reading, writing and discussion needed throughout the week. Also the topics are not that interesting and can be very complex to understand. Wouldn't recommend this class.

Pretty chill class, weekly discussion post on canvas about the readings although you can pull information from lectures videos. Attendance was necessary and major assignments weren't too hard. The class is harder to get an A in but very easy to get a B to B+, a chill class overall.

Would not recommended this professor unless you are a humanities major. Obscenely difficult and heavy coursework for a GE course. Willing enough to listen to feedback but seems confused as to why people find his class so hard. Very likely that you'll end up doing more work for this class than any of your major classes (sometimes even combined).

You will work and it'll be a lot of weekly reading/writing for a GE class. But there's tons of extra credit and flexibility in WHAT you choose to read/write about. No standard tests/quizzes so if you're a strong writer, you'll do fine. Coursework was fascinating even if it's complex. Warnes is a great teacher who really does care about his students

Yes, you have to do work in this class... this is a college course. The professor was very responsive and addressed many questions and concerns of the students over the semester. If you communicate with him he is very understanding. The key to this course is reading/watching the lectures the professor puts together. If you do this you will succeed

Outstanding amounts of reading and writing. Though the professor is clearly passionate and meticulous about the course, the work and lectures assigned are dense and will take several hours to complete. Not worth it for a three-unit GE course effort-wise if you're looking to gain easy credit outside your major or if you have a busy schedule.

So much work is required for this class, I took it as my fun class this semester but it is what I dread most about the week. He expects too much time from us for his class and assigns way to much reading for discussion posts. Was not worth it, one of the classes I regret taking the most.

I assume this class is fine for humanities and anthropology majors. If you are not one of those, do not take this class with him. Or this class in general, the other section is also difficult. I cried a few times at the start because of how confusing his assignments were and how long the readings and lectures were. Not recommend for other majors

Do not take this class if you want an easy, useless education that requires no thought. There is a lot of reading and interaction in the lectures. These negative reviews from philosophy and humanities majors are hilarious, I must say. "There is so much reading", "He assigns so much homework". Your degrees are designed for critical reflection on aspects of our world. The fact that I am a finance major, taking this as a Writing Intensive, and am in love with this class more than y'all is insane

Definitely knows what he's talking about, asks compelling open-ended questions- but this was undoubtedly the heaviest class I've had at this school. Assignment/exam questions are reliant on fully digesting the reading/lectures, which are often dense and challenging. Midterm/final are open all week, but take at least 9 hours to do. Not an easy A.
