Tough course but willing to spend lots of time helping you out.
Tough course. Helpful prof. Hard homework. Fair tests. You can survive.
Matt is a babe. Worth taking just to look at!
I wish he was teaching the course instead of ferg.
He's a great and wonderful young professor. I learned a lot from his class. Plus he's such a cutie =)
This is a great professor! Thank you lord for having this guy at SDSU. If you want to pass 195 and understand it get him at all costs. Nice, intelligent, helpful, and not into himself like most of the prof's. You will thank me later=)!
Dr. Andreson ROCKS! He's a total babe and a total smartie. I actually went to this class.
Dr.Anderson is THE HOTTEST professor you will EVER see in your life!!!
Great teacher, very helpful, wish he was teaching 196
Matt is a great teacher! But he's so hot that I have trouble concentrating in class! Love, the Ultrafast Group
One thing to say. Best teacher i ever had
Great teacher. Always willing to listen and help. Physics is naturally a hard subject to understand and he makes it easier to bear. Do all the homework, as the test questions are similar to homework problems. If you are going to take Phys 195, take him!
Thought i was going to fail, ended up with a B-. Just go to class for so you know which problems to study up on for the tests.
Dr. Anderson is witty and makes lectures interesting. His exams are directly from the homework and review sessions. He curves and doesn't try tricking students with exam problems. He's also easy on the eyes :)
Great teacher, and SOOOOOOO hot!!!!!!
Prof Anderson is a awesome guy. I do however felt that his class was unnesscarily difficult. I thought the pace was way too fast and I didnt have enough time to absorb the subject matter.
Anderson is pretty cool. funny guy, makes lectures go by faster. Homework is online so book is very little used, get a solution manual to help on HW. Tests are somewhat difficult but easier if you prepare yourself well. He makes the class easier than it could be.

Anderson was a great professor and his jokes were in good taste and always keep me laughing. As a physics major, it's nice to have a professor that reminds you of why you took that subject.
What can I say? The guy is a great teacher and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the subject. He makes learning the physics easier by making it more fun, especially with his awesome "physics humor" as he calls it. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
He's the best teacher ever
Best Professor ever. Physics can be a difficult subject, let's be honest, but Anderson does a hell of a job by making it understandable and doable. And he throws in the occasional corny joke, but give him a break, physics is not comedy. He deserves the Nobel peace price. Best professor ever so take him if you can
i dont really see how he got so many good reviews..... he isnt that great....he knows his stuff, but doesnt explain anything, just writes it down. Hes a good looking professor. All he does really is just write down what he has on his notes and thats about it......
Overall easy class for such tough material, Tests are straight forward, he tells you exactly what's going to be on them through his practice tests. Easy grader, makes material easy for you to understand, he just does problems during lectures, and that is just perfect for tests. Never opened book, waste of money. Highly recommend him.
I love physics and get it well, so the class was easy for me. Sometimes the class is boring, but overall it is cool and he has some cool demonstrations.
I dont know why people are saying he is such a great professor. Yea I got an A- in his class but I really do not think it was because he was a great teacher. Has practice exams, HW problems appear on exams. He does examples during class but the problem with that is he makes them way more complicated then they are making it really confusing.
He is a super lazy teacher. Assigns class captains so he doesn't have to do any work and class can just go to captains with questions. Class isn't too hard. I got an A. I stopped going to class because he just copies notes from a sheet of paper and doesn't really teach material. He isn't very helpful in office hours either. Very lazy!
Lectures are crystal clear. Assigns 10-15 problems from each chapter as study problems, and 2-3 chapters per exam. Your grade is the 4 exams (lowest score dropped) and a final exam. He often goes over homework problems in class (including problems that appear on exams). He also tells jokes and does in-class demonstrations on physics concepts.
Awesome teacher. I have no interest in physics and have always struggled with it and got an A. He makes class interesting with presentations and tells you exactly what to study for the tests. I went to every lecture and did not study much at all because lectures went through every concept on the test.
First, everyone who's complaining about not having a grading scale obviously didn't read the syllabus and attend class regularly. Spring '10 180B original Prof got sick, Anderson replaced him. He is AMAZING! Makes information relatable and easy to understand. Does examples in class. Tries to make a difficult topic easier to understand. Take him!
I should say first that I SUCK AT PHYSICS I've never had an easy time understanding physics or math my entire life, however this professor made it possible. He answers questions in a clear manner and is also considerate and understanding when you don't get something right away. BUY THE ONLINE BOOK ONLY! It has the solutions for everything!
He's all right. Probably one of the better physics teachers on campus since there isn't much to chose from. I wish he was alittle more helpful when it came to the final.
We began the semester with a sub who was terrible. Prof. Anderson did his best to recover and more than made himself available for after class help. He helped myself and several other students every week. I really learned this stuff thanks to him. I would say take him if you can, and go to his office hours. If prof. A's reading this, thank you
I was fairly interested in physics before the class. It started with a sub who was terribly boring, and when he came along I was probably already lost. But he really didn't help that. All of the in-class time was wasted on deriving equations instead of actually useful things for the class.
He was a great teacher and really tried to help each student. he even answered questions during lecture. Which was in a room with 500 people in it. Definitely a must take and hes smokin for a prof
GREAT teacher!! he is very helpful, he held office hours for 2 hours after every class. He seems like he actually loves the subject as well as teaching it. If you can take him for Physics, its hard material but he is a great teacher. I didn't even pass the class and I still think he's a great teacher :)
He posts lecture notes on blackboard and takes time during class to do some homework problems. Tests are very similar to practice tests and sample problems he posts, sometimes identical problems appear on tests. Very helpful and notes are easy to understand. Do well on homework and tests and you'll get an A.
AWESOME teacher, attendance done by clicker question n only need 75% to get full credit for attendance. Always posts hardest HW problem on his YouTube channel, takes time in class to do other problems. Tests are all 10 questions multiple choice and very similar to the HW and practice exams. Also posts solutions to exams to study off of for final
Fair class. Built in curve so 85% gets you a solid A. I would recommend.
Fair class, there's a lot of ground for physics to cover. Big curve, 4 tests, 1 final, and plenty of homework to do. But all this is fairly straightforward. Would take a class with him again.
Best science teacher I have had. His class interactiveness and personal you tube videos of problems and what not make him so easy to work with and deal with. Take notes and do the homework on time and your set.
Really cool professor. Good sense of humor an really chill. I just wish he's available more because I prefer his clear teaching and simple explanation. Test questions will be from clickers and homework problems so make good use of them when you are studying. He also offers espressos for students on a tiring day. Good Guy Anderson! :D
Dr. Anderson explains a lot during his lectures and keeps them interesting. There are 4 midterms (10 q's), the lowest one is dropped, online hw about every week, clicker questions everyday, and one cumulative final. Big curve on the class grading scale. Get into study groups to do the hw and study for exams and go to his office hours!
He's the best professor I've had so far. He's always willing to help! GO TO his office hours. He actually walks you through HW problems. He made Physics absolutely interesting to me and I would choose this professor if I ever have another chance to.
One of the best professors at SDSU. 4 midterms (drops one), and a cumulative final. Homework is the only thing I complain about (he drops the lowest one), but the midterms and final are similar to them. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will help you through any homework problems you have trouble with. He's also a funny professor. Very interesting class.
One of my favorite professors. The class is easy and straightforward. Moves quickly as expected, but he keeps you with him. Relates physics to real world and is funny, he likes to teach and jokes with the class. Highly recommended.
Great prof! Super clear! Best physics teacher ever! Go to class and do the practice problems.
I enjoyed going to his lectures. He is well organized. His i-clicker problems are fun to answer. The exams are a bit of a challenge but he drops the lowest of the 4 midterms. He posts past exams on Blackboard. Make sure you keep up with which chapter he lectures on, because the class is fast paced. He is very helpful professor. Watch his YouTube.
He is a really nice professor. Big curve in the syllabus 85 is a solid A. HW and tests aren't that bad but require a lot of practice. Drops lowest test score and offers extra credit. Overall I recommend him but it's not an easy A.
Super clear and organized professor. Straightforward tests with questions taken out of h.w and lectures. Final is just a bunch of random questions from past h.w and tests. Overall pretty easy class if you put in the time.
From an average student point of view; He was a good teacher however lectures were very boring. Your grade is based out of 100pts. 20-hw, 45-three midterms, 5-clicker questions, 30-final exam. This class is fast paced so make sure to pay attention. DONT FALL ASLEEP DURING LECTURE.
His lectures are very easy to follow, but they are too simple because he just derives formulas instead of working out homework problems. The homework is the hardest part about this course, followed by the tests, although the tests are worth more. There are 4 midterms with the lowest one getting dropped at the end, and there is weekly homework.
Dr. A is by far, one of my favorite professors! Took him over the summer. He is extremely knowledgeable and easy to follow. I started to genuinely enjoy physics! Take the time to go to office hours if you feel like you're not understanding the material. He's also really funny and has a generous pre-set curve for the class. Homework can be tough.
Prof. Anderson really is an amazing Professor!!! He is clear and concise with his lectures (which all go up on Blackboard so no note taking!) and he is always available to go to for help. Textbook is needed and definitely do the homework. Tests are kind of difficult, but manageable. Offers plenty of extra credit and course is WAY curved. GOOD LUCK!
He's able to actually teach a difficult subject such as physics. I definitely enjoyed having him as my professor. Very chill and friendly. Exams can be difficult though, especially since every point equals a percentage. He has a generous curve though, 85% is an A.
Don't let yourself fool by all the ratings here. From an objective point of view, he was an okay professor. Not great, not bad. He rarely works out examples in class and all he does is derive equation after equation. If you don't have a good physics background before this class you will have a very tough time in this class.
Anderson is a good professor, but the way he solves the equations is a way not everyone fully understands. However; he is good at explaining his process. There is a good amount of homework. You take 4 midterms that are 15 questions each, MC. The lowest is dropped, but you will do bad on the tests if you don't do the practice tests. Need iClicker.
Lectures are short and go by quickly, so if you really want to have a deeper understanding of the topics covered, you'll need to read the textbook. The examples were very helpful. He spends a lot of time deriving equations instead of going over example problems, but if you go to his office hours he'll be more than happy to help you.
Ive heard he was the best Physics professor at state. I can see why. Don't expect to get through this class without studying, but its not hard if you put in the work (like most classes).
Anderson is a really cool guy. His class had a big curve, with 56% being a C. The only thing I really have to say is that he goes over the most basic concepts in lecture, which is good but it dosent really prepare you for the homework or tests that well. Overall though a good professor who cares about his students
Prof. Anderson is great at explaining the concepts well. However, he tends to go over the most basic concepts, which does not reflect the exams and homework sometimes.
One of the best professors ever
Professor Anderson is a nice guy, but his class is no breeze. Homework is too hard and does not reflect his lectures in the slightest. You'll end up learning everything on your own and you'll an unnecessary struggle. Don't let the many good reviews fool you; he said in class that he wrote some of them and it totally makes sense. Good luck.
Prof. Matt Anderson is probably the best professor at SDSU and not just in physics. He is really innovative and invented Learning Glass Technology and teaches physics with a passion. He also breaks down examples and as long as you pay attention, the material is easy to understand.
Prof. Anderson was a very good physics instructor. He really wants everyone to succeed. His learning glass is an amazing tool he uses for missed classes and records all his lectures. Best advice is watch (all) learning glass, do the homework and at least try on final and you'll pass. His curve is very generous but you still have to work hard.
I took Prof Anderson's class online this past summer. It was pretty manageable, although fast paced. But that was expected for a 7-week physics course. The midterm and final were the same number of questions and nothing was cumulative. It was hard to build any kind of relationship with him since it was online, but he seems like a pretty good prof.
This class is actually kinda awful. It's not TOO hard, but it's also not easy. Group projects were really annoying. Anderson isn't a bad professor, but basically all the learning I did was on my own. He doesn't use class time that effectively and just does random examples.
It is fairly easy to receive an A in this class if you do your hw every week. Hw is online and even includes extra credit. He also provides extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. Attendance is mandatory but his lectures do not help very much. He posts previous exams before the midterm and final, and his tests are very similar.
Not the best but he is good. You have to teach yourself in order to pass the class. Study from the old exams and you should be fine.
Great professor. You want to take this guy, his lectures are clear and he will answer everyone question with a new method of reaching the answer if necessary, rather than just repeating himself.
Only upside is that he's a nice guy; he's massively overrated. Please don't let yourself be FOOLED by his high rating here, as he may have written most of the good reviews. He either goes over the most BASIC stuff in lecture, or goes over entirely IRRELEVANT stuff. You'll have to teach yourself EVERYTHING because he won't do any of that. Good luck.
He's an okay teacher, although he doesn't get even close to teaching you everything in class. Prepare to do a lot of self-teaching. His lectures are entertaining (he likes to promote his youtube channel tho) and he uses coursekey to take attendance. Weekly homework modules and online tests aren't bad just take a few hours of solid work per week.
great teacher!
Anderson was okay he was a good guy and he went over things in class breaking it down very easily. However the homework was way harder than what was in class and the tests don't relate to the homework as much as it should. The power point slides he makes are useful but long so stay motivated to read all of them they help a lot
I don't understand how Dr. Anderson would have a rating of 4.4 overall. All he does in his lectures is go over the basics of the basics, so not even the basics. Even on the second homework, his lectures won't help you at all. He's a nice guy and his grading is generous. Sadly, you need to read A LOT, and the book is not the greatest to learn from.
His Youtube videos are the best I have seen.
Anderson teaches in a very straightforward manner and loves when the class asks questions. If you show up to class, you'll likely see clicker questions on the tests. One big problem: the homework is through Mastering Physics, which is the absolute worst program I have ever seen. It penalizes mistakes and doesn't help you if you fail.
I personally did not like how he taught and it made it more difficult to learn anything. The homework is much harder than what he teaches during lectures but doable as most of the answers are online anyways. He does course key for attendance and does questions throughout class. There is an easy group project, midterm and final.
Overall Professor Anderson is a pretty good teacher. He teaches physics well, even if you zone out and come back to it you can tell what's happening generally. Midterm, final, and project are easy. The homework was the hardest (& worst) part of the class - it penalizes you for mistakes or for getting help.
Provides previous exams w/ solutions to study. Two exams, both non comprehensive. Mastering physics homework each week. Some material is only/best covered in his recorded lectures on blackboard. Take advantage of the extra credit opportunities.
You can get an A in the class, but you have to work for it. Do the homework, do the coursekey questions, and do okay on the tests and you are going to pass and get an A. The group project is not hard at all but takes some time. His lectures are not the best but oh well, you get what you get.
hes the best, he can simplify it so easily
I highly recommended Dr. A. Since I took it in the summer, it was really high pace. We had a quiz, discussion and hw assignment due every Wednesday and Sunday. Only bad part was two projects and for one of them you had to communicate with a group of students in order to complete it. Overall this class is an easy A but deadlines are everything.
Concepts cleared....
Professor Matt Anderson is very good teacher of physics. He is very good and intelligent. I don't have any words to describe the speciality of Professor Anderson. He is very very very good.
he's smart and knows what he is doing, but the way he "teaches" the class is by demonstrating problems without really explaining. there is no structure or organization to this style of teaching, and it is extremely hard to follow whats going on. practice tests are available online, but only the solutions are posted without explaining them.
He is a very cool teacher who enjoys talking about physics! He provides examples of how physics applies in our daily lives, and keeps the class interesting. However, he hardly covers the concepts that appear on the homework, which is due weekly. There are 4 midterms, the final, and a group video project. Take him for physics if you can!
the professor made a new rule- even if you get an answer correct with multiple choice, if you dont show correct work you dont get credit. there are already low test scores which reflect the poor structure of this classroom. all this does is lower that average even more. its multple choice, strategic test taking is the point of this type of exam.
Love this professor. He does a great job explaining, and his office hours are super helpful. Keep up with the homework, and go for coursekey points! Also prior to the tests go back and check the conceptual questions from lecture, there's always a couple on the midterms.
I wouldn't have done so well with any other professor. Dr Anderson's videos are creative and informative! Such a clear and structured set up with assignments due every Sunday and Wednesday. Do ALL of the homework, take good notes, and you WILL learn the material. Can't say enough how good of a teach he is!!! Midterm, final, and 2 group projects!
He was one of the best professors I had so far.
Professor Anderson gave good conceptual lectures but never did usable examples. The homework and tests were extremely difficult and the class depends pretty heavily on you teaching yourself and getting aid from the TA's to actually solve problems since the lectures are mostly conceptual.
Anderson is a great teacher took him back in sp 19.I had no idea how I passed his class compared to how I did that semester. I'm not saying completely ditch the class but he offers his lectures online and follows through all questions. Some problems in class are on the test. Idk if he will teach again but if you do take him 100%
Took this online over the summer and I'm telling you... DO THIS. this class is wayy harder than physics 180A and the only reason I did well was bc it was online. Great prof honestly but issa chegg class thats all im gonna say
never have i had a teacher test on so many things he NEVER spoke about and respond to emails with one word (after a week...)
Take this class! I took it because it was online and didn't want to have to sit in a physics lecture again. He uses a website where he has video recordings of lectures and you have to participate and pass a quiz at the end of each module. The project was very easy just base it off of hw. Mastering physics was easy. Chegg is your bestfriend.
He built his own website for lectures. They are short and to the point. Even includes example videos. The tests were open note, as long as you didn't work with others. Best prof I've had at SDSU so far. I wish he taught all physics.
Attend lectures, do your homework, and you'll be fine. He is a very understanding teacher, so if something comes up, send him an email. Attend SI if you need additional help.
Prof A seemed nice but he never answered any emails and the "lectures" he would post on his personal website were from 2013 and were cut off in random parts. The lectures never had anything to do with the actual homework or quizzes. However, it is definitely a chegg class. Don't take if you actually want to learn physics though.
phys 195 was easy. Anderson has his own website with all the lectures prerecorded on it, they were all very clear. there were only two tests: the midterm and the final. There was also a group project where you make a video that was weighted as much as the tests. Easy class to handle if you just watch the videos and participate in class.
Very good professor, despite not studying I still got an B-. He even said on the midterms not final of course, this type of question will be on your midterm. If you study everything I promise you will get an easy A. The tests are very similar to the homework, I don't remember what else will get you ready but ask him and he will be very clear.
This was a summer online class. Lots of material to cover and complete each week, BUT lots of tools available to assist due to it being an online class that is repeatedly taken. Anderson is clearly a well educated man and a structured professor who means well, but it's just a chegg course comon.
Best professor I have had yet. His lectures are very clear and engaging and cover relevant topics(usually things straight from the homework). He has a bunch of videos on his YouTube channel of his lectures which are a great resource. He is a very nice and kinda funny guy too. Only gripe is that he doesn't provide answers for his practice tests.
Professor Anderson clearly knows his stuff, but personally, I found it hard to follow along. Participation is also graded, so you absolutely have to attend the lectures- he uses an app that checks your location constantly as you answer questions, so you can't just leave after checking in once. This class is tough, and he knows it.
Awesome professor. He's a big name outside of the classroom- being featured on a Vox video and having a popular YouTube channel. Watch his videos on the website he gives you access to and you'll be fine. Tests aren't too bad as long as you get the concepts. Sometimes problems from the lectures will show up on tests, so try to have good attendance.
Prof Anderson was awesome for physics 195. I struggled a lot with the multiple choice exam style due to few questions and no partial credit. He is very passionate about physics and it shows. He's very understanding and was willing to work with me to get my grade up in the class. Attendance is required and helps a lot on the exams
prof anderson was super knowledgeable and his lectures were pretty helpful when learning. my class was at 9 am, so i was late a lot and missed some most of the lectures, but if you attend them all and pay attention you should do great.
