Matt's an incredible lecturer who makes a point of getting to know you and makes his students feel comfortable, while also making the lectures themselves incredibly interesting and easy to follow along with. He's the best prof I've had.Take this course!!
Definitely the best prof I ever had. Made what could have been a boring class really interesting. Super fair, super helpful. I wish I was still in school so I could take another class with him!
You say "Canadian Political History" and most people start to yahn; it's a reflexive action. Matt actually made the class fun and interesting. Bring a tape recorder, you won't want to miss a word.
Probably the most approachable prof I've ever had in my 3 years at Carleton. Can I say HOT??? I don't know someone in the class who doesn't like him :)
Best professor at carleton! I would take any class this guy teaches! He puts on an amazing show, and somehow in the midst of it, you are able to retain every last thing he taught. AMAZING!
excellent
This prof is stellar. Smart, organized, approachable. Must attend class to get a good mark. Exams aren't a mystery. Gives pages of typewritten feedback on essays on how to improve, not how terrible your writing was. Always positive. AWESOME!
This class kicks ass. I think if it was any other prof it would suck. He makes it very exciting. He doesn't ramble on about crap. Everything is kept to the point and is made very clear. Finally Carleton has a good proff!
Beautiful to look at and even better to listen to. While History of Economics may appear to be a bird course--he makes you work for your mark. In addition, he is also very encouraging. Awesome prof--Carleton is luck to have him.
He is what every teacher shoudl be like. Best teacher i have ever had. An asset to Carleton and Canada
taken a few of his classes and you can't find a better prof, the best possible. Super helpful, super nice, and extremely funny. Easy to get a C, but very hard to get an A.
He's such a hottie!! I would never have thought Economic History would be THIS interesting until I heard him lecture about it!!! Would definitely take another class with him: intensely interesting, hot, knowledgeable and fair!!!
My second course with Matt, and while I like Politics more than Economics, he made the hist of both really exciting. Makes you work but also makes you proud of yourself and your country. Always gives tons of help & positive feedback. Best prof ever!!!
100% best prof I've ever had and will probably ever have. He knows everything, is willing to learn from you, and encourages you to explore your interests/have your own opinions. Teaches with a right slant but knows it and lets you disagree. BEST PROF EVER
He is a phenominal story teller, which makes learning so much easier and pleasant. I wish all profs were stortellers like he is. This man was made to teach younge minds like ours. I feel lucky to have him lecture me during my stay at Carleton. Thanks, sir
Most fantastic class ever!He makes sure you get to see all, if not most, Leafs/Sens games! How could you forget CDN econ history when its told as an interesting story with class input and discussions? IT WOULD BE TO YOUR BENEFIT TO BE TAUGHT BY MR.BEL
Good course, very good prof.
I agree with every other comment about him. He is absolutely the best prof that I have had at Carleton so far. He's always helpful, and makes the material super interesting. Everyone loves him class. If you can, take a class with him. He's fantastic!
awsome prof. best class ever. most people think of canadian political history as very boring, but not with this prof. he seriously made the class. very helpful, and approachable. one of the best profs at carleton. i would definitely recommend him.
The best prof at Carleton
An absolutely awesome prof, the best I've had so far. He makes the class very interesting and is very approachable, he gives you a thousand ways to contact him, even his home and cell phone numbers.
Very helpful, and manages to keep even boring lecutues very interesting.
Best professor I've ever had the priveledge of being taught by.
Honestly one of the best profs I have ever had. Easily approachable, flexible, understanding and always happy to help! He teaches with such clarity that, not only are you able to follow the ideas but you actually remember what was taught. Without Matt, history would be lost on me!
Bellamy ROCKS. He can take British mercantalism and make it interesting. Best Prof at Carleton.
Great prof, full of energy, makes life a little more interesting
Best prof so far hands down, anyone who skips this class needs their head examined
Very interested and energetic. Also he is very flexible and understanding. One of the classes I look forward to going to.
Best Prof at Carleton....Really helpful and honest. Take his classes!!!!!!
Matt is the best teacher at Carleton, and one of the best teachers I've ever had. Funny, nice, approachable, savvy, and completely in control of his material, he is an all-around great human being.
matt is the most easy going prof i have. he makes the classes interesting by speaking about people from the past like they are real people, not just boring names in a textbook. he gets excited when he speaks and engages with the students. again, matt deserves top ratings as a prof.
Matt is an awesome professor, I hope he's still at Carleton next year.
Hope to have him again soon, very interesting and engaging. Actually gets excited about what he teaches, all around amazing person!
He's an amazing prof, I wanted to drop out, I hated all my classes and profs, he did a great job to keep me really motivated for this class..hope he is here next year so i can take a course with him again. Fun and great teacher
Matt is the best teacher at Carleton. He knows his material well and is very passionate about it, which makes everyone else become interested. He's very understanding and leniant about deadlines. Overall Matt rocks! Plus he can make the class laugh which can be hard for most profs.
the best teacher i ever had, he is smart and young and knows hows to relate to students. i wish there were more prof's like him. i highly recommend this teacher
-dynamic
Fantastic prof, really funny, easygoing, extremely knowledgable but presents class material in a fun and interesting way. Very approachable and helpful, I plan on taking other classes with him, just an awesome all around person.
Matt is a total Hottie, I am so in love with him. He's so smart, I want to have his children. Hot little smart children. I love Matt.
Sets the bar on how a good prof should be. Good lectures, cares about your performance, has many ways to contact him for help, and responds to emails fast. Please stay at Carleton Matt, you're a good asset and will have large effects on students, but probably not to the extent of the person below.
Fan-Freakin-Tastic! Awesome energy, and excellent ways of teaching the material. Best one I have seen yet at Carleton. Cheers!
Easily The best teacher @ Carleton i have had... The guy is Amazing remembers EVERYTHING, Knows his stuff DOWN! and can explain it. Loads of energy lots of fun great guy no text book BS great guy. I can't say enough about Matt.
Matt turns every lecture into one big story. He brings the characters to life. I look forward to every lecture.
Excellent Teacher...and easy on the eyes! Didn't miss a single class even though it was late in the evening! Take this class ladies, just looking at him makes you remember what he says...:| Seriously he is a great teacher and tests what he teachs and very approachable!
He'a a wily guy. Kind of like Sir John A. MacDonald. ;) Great prof, great class. Enough said.
This guy is a lunatic. In class I wonder if I'm in a lecture or a comedy sketch with Tom Green. As far as learning goes, you do learn something...but could simply read a textbook without having to listen to his constant profanity.
Matt is what all professors at Carleton should emulate in his professional manner, rapport with students and desire to see his students succeed. He is also accomodating to the point where you becoming engaed and committed to attending, participating and actively doing the readings.
Matt tells Canadian History as if it were interesting or relevant. He's understanding and freindly. Best Prof I've ever had.
great prof, easy to get along with, energetic teaching style. lectures sometimes a little fast-paced, but still easy to follow. Canadian History on Speed.
Easily one of the greatest profs of all time, engaging lecture style AND humourous. He's not an easy marker, you have to work for it, but he's very fair, easy to talk to, highly recommend you take at least one class with Matt before you leave Carleton.
Best teacher I've ever had! Very hot too ;)
Very cool, nice, down to earth guy. The only prof I've ever had who I wanted to - and did - go have a beer with. Demands that you call him by his first name in upper year classes. A very passionate teacher too.
terrible class/ stupid exam-- do not take course with him

The best prof I have had so far at Carleton. Makes a boring subject interesting, I would take another class with him.
The best prof i've had at Carleton so far. Always willing to help. Gives you all sorts of ways to contact him. If you get a chance you should take the class. I would definately take another class with Matt!
Best prof I have. So enthusiastic.
He's hilarious. I wish that all my Can Hist teachers had been like him in High School. I might have actually liked history more.
great professor. teaches class like he's telling a story about what happened on the weekend. funny, easy-going, laid back. very helpful. definently recommend him
Best prof here. I recommend him to everyone. Makes history fun. extrememly well organized so you know what is important. Shows a true love for what he does. Gets to know everone's name and talks to them like they are an old friend. Very open for out of class help or even just to hang out.
Definately the best prof Carleton U has to offer. Enthusiastic, funny, and very sexy!!!
Prof. Bellamy, is unquestionably one of the finest lecturers Carleton has to offer. He makes learning so enjoyable that getting for his 830a class on mondays is completely worth it. A fair, but not necessarily easy prof. You have to work to get a good mark, but its very much doable. Anyone who can should take a class with this guy.
Very enthusiastic prof! He is a highly educated Doctor in his field yet he is able to connect with students on our level. Very helpful and interesting. Definetly the best prof i have had at university
Best Prof I've had in university. Actually makes Canadian history interesting. He's extremly fair and very understanding, flexable with deadlines and makes a point to make himself available to students at all times, especially during exam times! Take his course!

This here is the best professor at Carleton. This man cares about his students, somethingt that is seemingly very rare! He will do anything for you if it means you'll do better. He really loves history and he gets WAY into it, he is excited, therefore you are excited, I would take any of his courses even FINANCIAL HISTORY OF CANADA! amazing!!!
Matt was the best prof I have ever had. I had to take his first year canadian history class as a requirement... and LOVED it. He knew EVERYTHING and helped you every step of the way... he gave extensions on papers if needed, and ACTUALLY managed to make canadian history interesting. i will look for him teaching ANY other class... take his classes!!
He was too busy winning national awards for me to tell him what an awesome prof he was. Tells you exactly what you should learn, and doesn't drag it on to subjects he know you won't be interested in later. I learned quite alot from the guy. No way can you NOT take his course if you want to be both enlightened and have a good time.
Amazing Prof! You can take the course even if you know NOTHING about CanHIst. Very Animated lecturing style, covers each topic as if he's telling a story. Work hard on the essays as the grading can be tough bt he'll help out if you ask and give extensions too! NO readings=huge course perk, study all the lecture notes for the exam and you're fine.
fun, fast and fruitful. A winning combination!!
AMAZING PROF. It shows how much he loves teaching.
Excellent.
A very good teacher, so animated and in to what he is teaching that he can make C.D. Howe interesting!
Undoubtedly an interesting lecturer. However, too difficult a marker. My lowest mark in 1st year.
Great class - well instructed
Best prof i've ever had and probably the best i will ever have
My favourite prof so far. Hard marker, if you get an A in his class and it was marked by him and not a TA, give yourself a pat on the back, you did amazing! He was so helpful and interesting, I'm taking as many of his courses as I can.
My inspiration. This prof was amazing.
The best prof I have ever had, hands down. Because of him I added history as my double major!! I got an A+ on my first paper and I finished with an A. Hands out sheets with terms and goes in order so everyone can follow. AWESOME.
Amazing teacher. If every prof could be like him, I'd leave school learning somethig. He goes so far above and beyond the call of duty. And takes the initiative to learn students names. Hes incredible!
BEST PROF EVER! HELPFUL in the extreme! SOOO enthusiastic & passionate, hate history, but he made me kinda like it or at least tolerate it. So colourful & animated. SOOOO beautiful! SOOO FAIR! So entertaining. GREAT class structure. No txtbk, FAIR EXAM. Go to classes as much as you can, but you can afford to miss- but why would you! AMAZING PERSON!
my favourite prof ever!!!!
Great prof!
Excellent Class
Bellamy is the best teacher you'll ever have - he's brilliat and a ton of fun. Will change your perspective on education.
a good prof
He's amazing. You'd be a fool to not take this class, regardless of your major. Subject content is great. TA's good, exam's are very pre-revealed and options are abundant. No textbook, notes are clustered to make things easier. Funny as hell, never goes the full length, great speaker, and an awesome friend for essay and exam remarking.
He's an excellent lecturer and definitely made class interesting. I did notice however that he picks his favourites. I wouldn't go as far as some people proclaiming him the best prof at Carleton.
Best Prof I had in first year. Taking his class was the luckiest thing that happened to me all year. I had to take a Cdn Hist but he made me actually enjoy the class. Marks tough, but fair and will help you to do better.
Lectures are entertaining, and he's very clear. Nice guy. but he picks favorites. He revealed major exam "hints" to certain students and left everyone else in the dark. It was still a good class- just try to befriend him and make sure he knows who you are. TAs were nice, no textbooks, essays were fair, exam was fair but study hard. He's hot as wel
Awesome Prof, will work with you whenever you need help!! So interesting!
Best prof ive ever had. He is hilarious, doesnt make you buy a textbook, he gives you his home phone to call him any time and will meet you wherever you need him to. WIll def take another course with him, no matter what it is.
one of the best profs ive had, hes very helpful and freindly, would love to take another class with him, and verrryyy good looking by the way.
Great guy. Didn't feel like class at all.
awesome prof. passionate, interesting, a joy to listen to. don't even need to take notes, it all just sticks.
Awesome prof! Very passionate, knows his stuff and is a super nice guy! He really gets you engaged in the material.
He's so cool and I actually learn what he teaches because he teaches it so well. He's hilarious too.
I avoid history textbooks with a passion, but Prof. Bellamy has managed to make my 8 month sentence in HIST 1300 more than tolerable, even enjoyable. His teaching style shocked me at first, being so laid back and energetic. Then I caught on - history doesn't have to be depressing and all about reciting dates. It's about ideas. Take his class.
Lectures start with a few questions that are answered as he talks about key term which all interconnect. My lecture notes have never made so much sense! He's into the material which makes me into it to. Most helpful prof I have ever encountered. He will meet you when ever and where ever. He will even come to your study sessions for exams.
I'm in my 3rd year and he's by far the best prof at Carleton. Take his CLASS!
His lectures are really interesting, and he picks topics that you'd never learn about anywhere else (IE: Three lectures on prohibition and beer). Funny classes, and they're easy, too. He says exactly what to write in your notes. Quite literally available at any time for help. Best class ever.
By far my favourite prof and first year. Course expectations were very clear and the lectures were just plain FUN which is really hard to achieve for a Canadian History class so early in the morning. Matt is an AMAZING prof, always availible to talk about essays or exams. DEFINATELY take this course as an elective if you can.
A shameless self-promoter who seems to think he's the best professor in the department. And he is. Much obvious pandering for students' attention, and I can't help but think he's really a cynic at heart. Yeah, sure. If only he had any sympathy where marking is concerned...
good lectures, passionate prof, strange exams. literally chooses exam topics randomly (his words) instead of choosing the more relevant topics. this means you have to study absolutely everything, in order to answer the obscure questions. aced the 2 papers, struggled with the mid-term and final.
Came into this class with high expectations, and he didn't disappoint. Made the boring subject of Canadian History fun and interesting. He's an animated guy, loses to pace the floor and doesn't read from slides. Amazing!
BEST.PROF.EVER You MUSt go to class but you will LOVE his classes! Funny, entertaining, and makes an effort to get to know everyone. I loved this course and I don't like history! Almost won TVO's best lecturer
Amazing prof! Exams are really easy to study for because he gives a list of 'board notes'. Study each and every one and exams are a breeze. Anecdotes are always intersting and actually relate to the subject matter (which is rare!). Responds to e-mails quickly and answers are helpful. Definitely recommend this prof!
the best of the best. hilarious, entertaining, knows his stuff better than anyone. i would take advanced physics if this guy taught it, hes that good. really wants to help people succeed and is willing to help you out with whatever you need. first class prof.
I Love this prof. Next year I am going to pick whatever history class he is teaching. He is charasmatic and keeps you intersted even though there are no slides or props and he is really easy to talk to about your assignments. Not to mention he is cute
This great man was a member of "Back2Front"......The most influential glamrock group of my life! Everyone should hear this album, just ask him for a copy.
Hands down the most amazing prof ever! So helpful and kind! Willing to do anything for his students and he really cares about them! His lectures are always so informative and fun, really knows his stuff! He is also funny! The best!!
The Man. Great orator. Energetic. Makes it fun. Good sense of humour. Makes himself available to students. Simple lecture content, but marks hard.
fantastic professor! funny, very cute, charismatic, excellent public speaker, and doesn't use slides or a textbook. matt is such a helpful guy when it comes to essays and exams; however, although the lectures are fairly laid back, the tests aren't easy. i'm not big on history, but i loved this class! take it: the best choice you'll make all year!
Amazing. he can make the dullest topic seem like the most interesting thing in the world. He is incredibly laid back, class never begins on time and always ends 20min early. Always smiling and laughing. I love this guy :)
Good prof, very enthusiastic. Very well organized lecture. No textbook. Helpful and sympathetic. However teacher assistants are not very good markers.
Withouting exagerrating, the perfect most ideal professor to have. Brilliant, interesting, fun, enthusiatic, helpful and very very friendly. Nothing but praise for this awesome professor!
FANTASTIC proff. actually made Canadian History interesting which is pretty suprising.
Without a doubt, best prof I've ever had. Extremely entertaining but delivers all the information necessary to do well in the class. Actually makes the effort to get to know students as well. Definitely take any of his classes if you get a chance.
soooo hottttt!!!!!getting to stare at him during lectures made for fantastic mornings...
AWESOME PROFF< BEST IVE EVER HAD
Best prof I have!!! Love this man!
Amazing prof! Really brings history to life with his incredible memory and anecdotes. Usually ended the class a half hour early too! No homework, no textbook, few assignments. These and the exam are graded fairly, but the material is easy to understand anyways.
Great professor, during the year it's really easy, but watch out for the exams! He's a fairly difficult grader, but he's fair!
Good Prof, great guy, but for a second-year course he is a little tough on grading. Took this class as an elective in my last year and I enjoyed the class, but found him to be tough on grading.
This guy is the man. He is a tough grader, but if you work hard you can come out with an A. I recommend going to his office hours and talking about essays or exams. He is always willing to meet and help students out. Seriously, THE MAN!
Tough marker- won't be taking more courses from "the man."
Excellent prof, makes class interesting. The T.A. was a tough marker but if you went to Bellamy after he was fair with upping grades. Also a bonus, no textbook used in the class so saves money
Amazing lecturer, however he can be a bit hair brained and was an insanely hard marker. It can be difficult to know exactly what he wants in the exams. Regardless, though, his lecturers are astounding.
BEST PROF EVER!! He made history fun.. rly approachable and helpful. Also nice to look at. I highly recommend this prof!!
I took one of his classes last year. Yesterday he spotted me on campus, shouted my name and ran over to have a 5 minute conversation about life... just because! He told me if I needed any help with school in general, to come knock on his door. What profs do this? This guy is a superhero.
Easily one of the best prof's I have ever had. I would recommend him to anybody who loves history, because he is passionate about what he teaches, and to anybody who doesn't love history - because he makes it not only bearable, but interesting!
By far the best prof I've had at Carleton. Phenomenal lecturer, excellent marker, doesn't use textbooks at all (which is a plus financially and in terms of work), easy to follow, easy to study for, and generally very approachable in and outside of class (responds to emails and texts very well). Take any class he offers that you can.
Thorough understanding of subject matter, easily relates to students, has a positive attitude and genuinely wants students to succeed. Overall an excellent professor. Yes, this guy rocks.
the sheer amount of positive reviews should be enough of a testament to his skills. all profs should adopt the matt bellamy model of class - no textbooks, few assignments, animated and engaging delivery of material and a genuine interest in it. i remember more from this class than any history class i took sheerly based off his memorable delivery.
Very positive approach to teaching. Told a story about Canada's history and the people that made it happen rather than lecture to the class. Very casual class - no mandatory text, no seminars - go to class, take good notes, couple of assignments and that is good.
Wonderful professor. I went out of my way to not miss his class. His lectures are informative, entertaining and short (not the actual 3 hour period). He's very approachable/understanding when it comes to deadlines and such. No textbook is needed, just attend and listen. He's here to help us learn. He's a tough but fair marker.
He is absolutely amazing! Even if you're not interested in Canadian history he makes it so that you are. I LOVE HIM. Take his class
Best professor ever! I love him!!
Hands down the best class I've taken at Carleton University! Amazing prof who does it his own way!
The guy is a champ. Easily the best professor iv'e ever had. No textbooks and no power points, just him talking about history. He literally knows everything.
He was the best prof I've ever had and I can't wait to have him again. I wish all professors taught like he does!
Very clear, no textbooks or anything unnecessary. Extremely helpful and cares deeply about both his students and this subject.
Amazing teacher... Take a class with him if possible!
I can't imagine ever having a better professor. He somehow manages to bring Canadian history to life. He truly cares for his students and even learns most of their names.
He's an entertaining professor. He's nice, funny and interesting... However, graded papers are often late, and he seemed a bit off during the second semester. He wasn't as cheerful, and he had trouble getting back to me many times. I don't want to hold it against him. He's a good professor otherwise.
Amazing prof. Really enjoyed his class. Is also good at giving lectures.
Matt is hands-down the best lecturer I've had at Carleton! You would think that having no textbook or slides would make it hard, but he told us exactly what to take notes on, and needed nothing to supplement his lectures! He made Canadian history sound so interesting, which isn't easy to do. Attend class (usually less than 3 h) and you're golden
AMAZING. Class is very fun and he always finishes over an hour and a half early. Clearly says exactly what to write down. No textbook to buy and no readings. All you have to do is show up to class and write down what he says to write down. Tough marker on tests, but easy to do well if you payed attention. Will boost mark if you complain about it.
He's a fantastic lecturer - he does it all from memory, no PPTs. Very charismatic, and a fast speaker so class often ends an hour early. He gave me a 1-week extension due to an anxiety issue, and it saved my whole CGPA. Marks hard but fair His Ph.D is in Canadian Beer History or something, so be prepared for beer-focused lectures once in a while
Never have I been so thankful to have an incredible prof like Bellamy. He made boring Canadian History a lot more interesting than I expected. Only one midterm test, an essay outline, a 12-page essay and a final exam was required, so workload was hardly an issue. If you have the opportunity to take this class, enjoy and take really good notes!
Professor Bellamy charges everything he does with the breath of his own spirit, this makes him bring history to life. And when we bring history to life, when we study it as a story instead of events, it makes it easier to learn.
This guy is such a beauty. If I could take all my classes with Matt Bellamy, then I would. He brings a topic like Canadian history to life. I don't know anyone who could make something that is seen as stereotypically boring into an exciting series of lectures.
Best prof I've ever had! Amazing lectures, knows everything he's teaching in detail and can make it interesting. Shortens the lecture every class but you'll still leave having learnt more than in any other class. Easy A as long as you attend class, very fair marker. Very charismatic and super hot 3
Matt is an amazing prof and and even better person. His lectures are short and to the point, but full of memorable stories and you learn a lot. Bonus: never uses a textbook! My electives are precious but I'd use them all on him in a heartbeat!
The best prof/teacher I have ever had. His lectures are only 1 hour and the whole hour is extremely interesting. He's super funny and tells amazing stories about really boring topics. He's also super helpful and is only a text away (he gives you his cell number). If you talk to him he'll give you great feedback and bump your mark sometimes.
Matt's lectures are always around an hour, but he talks so fast they seem to go by even faster! The lecture info sheets/maps are super helpful. He gives you his cell # at the beginning of the year (always open to giving help). His anecdotes about history make the class so cool (even if you don't like history). You can tell he loves what he teaches
Matt's an amazing prof! Was supposed to be a 3 hour lecture, but never lasted longer than an hour and a half. Makes learning about Canadian history fun by joking around, but is still very clear on the material. Acts as though he actually respects students. Only one essay and one test aside from the final exam, which made it harder to balance marks.
THIS GUY IS AWESOME! I had to take a first year history as part of my program and Matt made it so much fun! He is so passionate and he really knows his stuff! Show up, take notes on what he blatantly tells you to and you will pass with flying colours! He's also really approachable in and outside of class for help with the major essay!
Took his first year Canadian history course and loved him so I took him again in second year. Similar course but centralized around a few different major topics. Only 1.5 hour lectures a week, no text books, no reading. He's a really good lecturer and knows everyone's names. Probably the best prof I've ever had.
Matt is the greatest, coolest, funniest prof ever. There was no textbook, 1 essay, 1 test and 1 exam. You'll have to be sure to attend his class because there are no online slides or textbook but his lectures are short, engaging and funny. He is always available to help his students. His only downfall is he talks quickly but his classes end early.
He makes history fun! If I'd received any other prof, there's no way this class would be as fun to go to as it is with him. His boisterous personality along with his passion for Canadian history has you laughing and enjoying the time spent in class each lecture!
Energetic, passionate and down-to-earth. He makes Canadian history fun and worth while. He is the best, doesn't assign readings from a textbook, cuts class short and makes himself available for feedback. His lectures are the highlight of the week.
Amazing prof. Doesn't keep class longer than an hour and a half, very fun classes. No assigned readings either, and his lectures are always informative and engaging. He is a very accommodating professor as well.
Best Prof I've ever had, makes history interesting and engaging. Tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed.
Prof Bellamy IS AMAZING! His lectures are interesting, captivating, and easy to follow. He makes history so much fun to learn, and there is only 1 test and 1 exam. I WOULD 100% RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS!!! He cuts class short but always covers the material necessary. Best prof ever.
Amazing lectures and easy to succeed if you go to the classes
Matt is hands down the best professor I have ever had. His grading criteria are clear and he always gives you the exam material so there are no surprises. He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and could keep a full lecture engaged for hours, although he never runs longer than an hour and a half (even in 3-hour lectures)! Best prof ever!!
Take his class. Show up. You won't regret it. Everyone loves him because he cares so much about us as students. Almost no work. You just have to show up. He's also obsessed with the history of alcohol in Canada and works it into every lecture which is so fun.
professor bellamys lectures were interesting and concise. as long as you pay attention and take decent notes, youll be fine. the way that the grade breaks down is anxiety-inducing initially (with a midterm worth 35% and a final worth 65%), but his lectures ease that anxiety. it is clear that he wants his students to succeed.
best prof
Amazing Professor. Enjoyable course content if you like sports. Overall amazing prof. Lectures are very interesting and gives a lot of resources to learn more.
He's excellent!
First week with him but I can already tell its going to be a great course! Lectures are about an hour and a half but he makes them funny and enjoyable
His lectures are entertaining while still being very insightful, he gives ample time to complete assignments and is still flexible if you require an extension. He's also replies to emails very promptly and even provides the option to text him personally. I'd definitely recommend him and this class if you like sports whatsoever.
Probably my favourite professor. Really interesting topics. Hes very approachable and will respond to your emails quickly. Highly recommend taking this course. He is very reasonable and will help you succeed. 10/10
Took HIST4300, not HIST 1900, but it's not an option. He was really great, a funny and knowledgable guy. He didn't really lecture, just asked questions and guided discussion, so reading necessary but pretty light most weeks. No presentations unlike most seminars. Very relaxed about due dates and extensions.
guy is an abosolute friggin beaut just attend the lectures take a couple notes and youre golden
Great lecturer who uses no slides but keeps you engaged. Very caring toward his students and lectures will never go full time.
I would 100% recommend taking any of Matt's classes. He is super friendly and makes history engaging. If you don't like memorizing/ are bad at it, know that there is a lot of memorizing terms and important events in this class.
I did not want the semester to end because it would mean the end of his class! He's Canada's expert on the history of booze and has a remarkable knowledge of economic history as well. His lectures were thrilling! The course design was very conducive to learning. Fair marker. Exams, essay, and midterm were legitimately fun! No readings.
great prof, classes are so enjoyable, very inspiring. def take any class u can of his
He makes the class feel like you are listening to a podcast. By far the most engaged I have been in any lecture. I wish I could take the class again. Write down what he tells you to and it will be the lightest class you will take in university.
Easy-going teacher who clearly cares about the material and enjoys teaching it. Short lectures that don't drag on. Class evaluation was weighted heavily towards an assignment and the exam but was manageable.
Lectures never lasted more than 2 hours. Funny guy who loves teaching and always made the material interesting. Evaluation was based only on two quizzes, the exam and a paper.
This professor makes history engaging with his entertaining and insightful lectures. The workload is manageable, and he's very responsive to student needs. Unstuck study complemented my study prep nicely alongside the free course materials.
Professor Bellamy is by far my favourite professor at Carleton. He knows how to get the students engaged and captivated during the lectures. The tests were straight forward, and the essays were fun and engaging. If you're looking for a prof that is easy going and fun this is your guy!
A great professor but a 45% paper with no study sheets at all for a first year class is absurb.
Amazing and funny Prof who makes the lectures as short as he can, however, a 45% Paper with hard-marking TAs is rough, and a 45% final exam with no outline or study guide in a first-year class is WILD.
no slides, but still great lectures. 2 quizzes + a paper + final exam. paper was graded hard and harshly by TA's and exam was misleading from what we were told was gonna be on it, but still a reasonable exam. 45% paper and final is nuts for a first year class
