Statistics is no picnic and neither is this teacher. He is by the books but clear and a very good instructor. He gives a GREAT deal of homework. If you need help he is available, just don't fall behind. This is not a class for wimps.

Mr. Davis is a hard teacher, but willing to help you out, he usually has pre-made notes for you to fill in the blanks, which are really helpful. I recommend him, if you are willing to learn.

taking summer class, 6 weeks so its like 3x as fast. but he has prewritten notes with fill in the blanks and he tells us what to fill in so taking notes is easy as hell, they're helpful too so i never had to read the book. he teaches everything you need to know, has good analogies, and doesnt pull out surprises on the test. LOTS of homework though.

Does such a good job of teaching and answering question, that I have not had to read the textbook at all. The homework is a little time-consuming but worth every bit. Overall, he is a great teacher who helps his students to learn math at their own pace.

he's strict with class rules and turning in homework on time but if you attend class on time, do all the homework and listen to his very clear lectures, you'll do well. homework takes an hour but you learn the concepts. tests are hard but with homework and studying, you'll do fine. i thought i was bad in math, but got an A. will take him again.

hard to say. this class is NOT for the typical JC student who is just forced to goto chabot. in fact he teaches as if we were in a UC and it is good training for that. if you are a VERY hard worker then you will do well in his class. if you are lazy, rude, complain a lot...then you dont want to take it. he is a GREAT teacher.

The material was difficult, his attendance policy is a little strict and the tests cover all the important things we learned. It's almost as if he was treating us like actual adult college students. STOP WHINING! I'm bad at math and still got an A, he's very helpful and fair. Looks a little like Keith Malley which was funny.

His notes are crystal clear because he gives you a packet of notes for each chapter that you fill in. Lectures are organized, tests are based on practice exams (so complete them). Lots of homework, but every good teacher assigns homework because thats how you learn. Work hard, ask questions and you will be fine. Awesome teacher.

Great instrutor. class work is not that hard, it's just unfamilar material (if taking after algebra). Chapter test helps prepare you for exams. I suggest "ONLY" taking him if you have at "LEAST" 6 hours a day to do homework and mini tab. Any college student who test high for this class/pass college algebra can learn the work. Good Luck

Statistics takes time. If you are not willing to invest time into studying for this class you are not going to pass. Davis is the best teacher. He is thourough and clear. He does assign a lot of work, but it helps make sure that you learn the material. He is helpful and answers any questions that you have. I highly recommend taking his course.

Professor Davis is amazing. His note packets make it easier to follow and understand the lecture, and he explains the material using real world examples and lots of humor. I failed this course twice before him. Gives lots of opportunities for rewarding hard work. Very forgiving with his grading. The hybrid class rocked!

Hw, lab, group work and attendance don't count. Only tests count and they are extremely hard to pass. what is the use of all that work then? It is impossible to pass this class, many fail. Don't take his class.

Hardest class I've ever taken. at least 15 hours of homework a week. Thats outside of class. Teacher is funny. but the class is incredibly hard. He grades everything way too harshly. Last I checked of 33 students still in class 17 had a D or less. unless you have a lot of free time take something else.

Easy class. Always joking, but most of his jokes are boring. Hard test grader. You need to be detailed on your answers, not like the math checking thing that I grew up with.

This was a challenging yet rewarding experience for me. Matt Davis is the hardest teacher I have ever had, but in the end, it feels so good to know you're actually understanding the work. I took his stats class during the summer and had never ever ever worked so hard for an A! sleepless nights because you HAVE to do tons, yes, TONS of homework like the others have mentioned. Slacking is unacceptable if you take his class. The final test is easy though, its cumulative but it replaces your lowest midterm test which is really nice.

One of the better courses I have taken at Chabot. Yes, there is an insane amount of homework and the group projects can drive you crazy if you group with slackers, but the majority of your final grade is based on the exams. His lectures help solidify what you need to know in order to pass. Basically, slackers and procrastinators need not apply.

One of the best math teachers I ever had! There is alot of homework to do, which is something to plan for if you are taking alot of units alongside this class. It takes some time to get used to the high standards expected of you in this class, but it is worth it in the end. He wants his students to succeed and take time to help you out.

I got an F from a previous teacher but so far I have an A in his class, he explains everything so well and will stop and help you if you don't understand. A TON OF HOMEWORK. Lectures are good. He explain thoroughly and really help a lot when needed. There are a lot of assignments which take hours to complete. Tough grader on tests and hard to gain test corrections if you miss assignments. Concepts did not seem as difficult the first time I took the course.

Meet chabot college's math wizard, this guy can solve math like a robot. to put it in a different prospective, he writes Chabot college's math books, need i say more? he explains everything thoroughly and is very tough when it comes to grading math problems.. Mr. Davis is a good teacher. I recommend taking Math 43 with him, but make sure that you have plenty of time to do the homework assignments as he assigns a lot of homework. You will also work in groups often, so if you don't like working in groups I wouldn't recommend his class for you. Don't skip class, you will have a hard time catching up.

He is Brilliant! but gives so much assignments and Homework. If you are taking more than 4 classes do NOT take him. Overall, he is a very good professor.

Matt is a very intelligent guy, and also very nice. This class teaches you how to work hard. As long as you put in work you'll be fine. Great teacher & uses analogies to help remember concepts. Clear & concise lectures. He assigns 30+ problems per chapter hw (start early!), helpful lecture videos online. Requires groupwork. Grade based heavily on test scores but he offers test corrections to get some points back. Make sure you have time to dedicate for this class!

I was that student who hated math, I never understood it but I had to get it over with and took Davis. He is the BEST teacher at chabot. I actually liked stats even though I wasn't great at it. He straighforward and you just get it, he makes you understand idk how but he does! HELLA HOMEWORK!!! But, its really helpful to understand the material. :)

The class moves fairly quickly and he gives out a notes package for every chapter covered. Homework is needed. Grades even numbers, parts of chapter problem in homework. He gives test corrections or retakes for better score but you have to earn them by doing homework and projects.

Your grade depends on the work you put in. He gives a ton of work (homework, group projects, classwork), and tbh you don't have to do every single assignment, but the more you do, the better your grade and understanding of the material. He gives a lot of extra credit in a lot of different ways, including test corrections. He made me enjoy stats.

like paying $ for software? it is mandatory same with attendance. Group graded class classignments as well. all hw is done online, lack of diverse support offered.. Matt Davis was an excellent Math teacher. Here's how I know. I haven't taken a Math course for YEARS until now, and I passed with an A. Make no mistake it wasn't easy; you just can't miss class and DO NOT PROCRASTINATE on homework. It's that simple. Math may be confusing but he helps out alot during class, office hours, and stem center. Great guy!

Matt Davis is an exceptional professor. He is a tough grader and has lots of pet peeves but he is understanding and fair when it comes to grading. You have plenty of chances to raise your test score with test corrections, all you have to do to receive the corrections is your homework. Highly recommend Davis.

Cool dude, solid teacher. There's a lot of homework/projects but if you do them all you'll do fine on the tests. He wrote the textbook for the class and it sucks. Lots of group projects. If you don't slack off you'll do fine. If you suck at math to begin with take another teacher.

Overall if you show up and do the work you pass. Attendance is mandatory, but if you shoot him an email before or after class he'll catch you up. Would definitely take him again.

You can pass his class as long as you are on top of what you need to do. Even if you fall behind you can still catch up! Do your test corrections and get a minimum of 60% on online quizzes and you will get a poker chip and he will let you look at your notes during a test! You have to work for your A!

He explains concepts well. I've always been a C student in math but got an A in his hybrid course over the summer for Math 53. He makes you work for it but it's not impossible. He is picky, but everything he wants is clearly stated in his syllabus and on paperwork so students who complain have no right to complain when they come to class unprepared

Mr. Davis is a great instructor who has developed interesting teaching methods that help you better understand the course concepts. The amount of work required is necessary and fair, considering he provides HARD WORKING students plenty of opportunities to complete EC/redeem unsatisfactory grades. Ugh I love matt. I think he is an over all awesome dude! His grading is hard and his class will kick your butt but if you keep on top of your work and go to his office hours you will pass. I suck at math and I got a B in his class so there is no excuse. Gives a ton of work but it will help you in the long run.

He puts a lot of emphasis on grit that you will need to pass his class. He grades tough but it made me realize the importance of precision b/c math needs to be. He also gives a lot of opportunities to pass the class with enough dedication to your work. I was failing, brought my grade to a low C before the final, Aced the final and pass with B.

I didn't like him the first day of class b/c of pet peeves he listed in his syllabus (like not being able to use the bathroom, phones being silent, etc.) But, he gives you a lot of chances to pass or to bring your grade up. As long as you're on top of it, you'll pass. I ended the semester (summer!!) with an A. It was more fast paced than I thought.

Professor Matt is an amazing professor. I'm not going to lie and say his class is easy. I can say that he is available in office hours and very willing to meet and help you with content you don't understand. He wants you to be successful, but you have to put in the work. Its not a free ride. Math isn't difficult, but there is a lot to understand.

From a procrastinator's viewpoint, this class was the heaviest workload I've ever encountered, but the way he structured the online class is the only reason I passed with an A. He made it simple for me to understand the concepts and tests were a breeze for me. This wasn't an easy A class and requires effort, but it was worth it for me.

This class is amazing, even though I got a C. Mr. Matt is enthusiastic about his teachings, he clearly goes over every lesson to the best of his abilities to make sure his students understand his lessons. His office hours helps, he also allows some test retakes to boost your grade up by a portion and I think he's very fair. He's a great professor!

This class will is definitely not easy, however it is very passable. There is a consistent weekly schedule of assignments that you eventually get used to, and there are many different ways to get help if you need it. The lecture videos and exam review packets will be your best friend in this class! (also there are extra credit opportunities!)

I took MTH 43 class during the summer. It was pretty brutal because the amount of work was crunched in during the short period of time. So, if you have a job while taking this course during the summer, it will be extremely difficult. He is clear with his instructions and gives a lot of extra credit and re-dos for tests. So, make use of it!

Mr. Davis is the best math teacher I have ever had. He does give a lot of busy work, but doing them really helps to understand the concepts. He has multiple ways of getting extra credit or making up your grade. Exam reviews are almost identical to exams. Just do the work and you WILL pass.

This was a hybrid class, I only had to show up once a week (on time). Group work was very important. Extra credit is available on every exam. If you have an A by the time of the final, you do not have to take the entire final. Just do the work on time and you'll be fine. An A is possible.

Calculus is difficult, but Professor Davis made it better. The class is very organized with note packets and lectures that were focused on the most relevant material. There are exam review packets that tell you exactly the kinds of exam questions to expect. You can earn retakes on exams which I used to raise my scores by two full letter grades.

I'm a high schooler and I did dual-enrollment for Intro to statistics and probablity, the professor assigns a lot of work but if you have the time to do it and turn in all your work, the class is an easy A. However, I do feel like theres a lot of other professors that you can get the same credit for but assign less work so just look at your options

I took MTH43 with Professor Davis in 2024. The class very demanding. If you don't take good notes from his video lectures, you'll have a hard time. I was probably doing at least 5-10 hours of studying/homework 5 days a week. I worked hard for my A because there was so much homework/studying. He's definitely one of the harder teachers.

I scored most exams with a 56%, I put in the work by re doing HW and submitting everything he allowed exam retakes, max of 5 problems, you earn a certain number of problems based off of turning stuff in, score on HW, attendance. It was challenging but I earned it and I worked for it, I feel SUPER ready for math 2 thanks to prof Davis

He gives multiple chances to pass—retakes are your golden ticket. Each exam offers retakes & poker chips, turning a C, D, or F into an A, B, or C. Each retake covers a full question (e.g., 1.a–1.d). To earn all five retakes, must do all hw, the review packet, & group assignment on time (just try your best). Oh & he drops lowest exam score.

Very passable class. He is a little picky on grading but you'll get it eventually. He just wants you to pass. It's a lot of work, but if you keep up with hw and attend class, you get retakes that can turn really bad exam grades into passing ones. Tests are mostly based on homework and group assignments, and the final is based on past exams.

Only take this class if you're willing to put a lot of time and effort. Lots of homework, groupwork, and exams. But he presents a lot of opportunities to put in effort and fix your grade. As long as you do everything to the best of your ability and study, you will succeed. He's also funny. His lectures are also detailed as well as his help in class

His lectures are well explained and easy to follow. There is extensive homework and weekly group projects. The amount of homework and quizzes were a lot, but I felt like it greatly contributed to my learning and understanding of the subject. There are opportunities for extra credit and test corrections so take advantage of that to boost your grade.

I took his hybrid Calculus I class. There's a heavy homework load and very strict grading, especially on notation, but you'll be well prepared for Calculus II. His lectures are solid and he explains concepts well. However, he can be mean or dismissive and sometimes in a bad mood. Retakes help a lot, so use them. Be ready for a lot of self-study.
