he is a great teacher, very helpful
very helpful! if you want to like and understand science take him!
Tough class, but excellant teacher.
Very helpful and doesn't have an ego-take Dr. Matt for 104
Dr. Matt is great and will go out of his way to help
Dr. Douglas is the greatest
Dr. Matt is solid
Dr. Matt is very knowledgable and always willing to help
makes biology very interesting.
dr. matt is great-fun class
Awesome instructor. I enjoyed learning in this lab.
Dr. Matt is awesome don't hesitate to take his class!
Dr. Matt is the best. Take his class. You will love this guy!
Dr.Matt is so awesome!very helpful, positive, always smiling, enjoyed his class
Really nice guy! Had him for my lab, better than my prof. Good guy, tries hard.
Dr. Matt is great, but dont let that fool you, you still need to study to pass!!
he is so passionate about what he teaches that he makes you want to learn
interesting lectures... proffesional but not dull
Dr. Matt is a very intelligent man, is passionate about what he teaches, and has tons of energy. He shoots for an average of 70 in his class, he calls that good. He expects a lot, but a good student can easily get an A. Knows a ton about Monarch's!
Great Guy, fun for lab and lecture!
I have never learned so much in a class, nor had a professor who loved his job the way Dr. Matt did.
This is the most amazing man and teacher I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is so smart but is well grounded. I believe he can teach anybody anything. hHe is very patient and wants students to succeed. He is my pick for a hall of fame teacher.
Very intelligent and friendly...his class is a must! Nice butt
Willing to help students go 'all the way'.
Dr.Matt is so funny he talks fast so you have to keep up but hes a good teacher
Dr. Matt knows what he teaches. However, in my experience he hasn't really taught our class much. I only have him for lecture, but all he does is tells us what we need to read and then we watch movies. If you can stay awake for hour movies, you're set.
He really cares about all students, and he knows what he teaches. Its been my experience at GRCC that the Biology department is probably one of teh most professional, helpful, and fun in the state. Dr Matt helps and listens to anything you have to say.
Dr. Matt is an awsome teacher, he jokes around, but he REALLY knows his stuff, it is amazing what the guy knows, i am really happy that i took his class, and i learned a lot, not that i will use any of that stuff in real life except in maybe jepardy!
He is a really nice guy! BUT the class is REALLY hard!
nice guy, knows his stuff, but doesn't really teach. Just tells us what we need to know and lets us learn about it from the book. Tests are okay. Helpful if you ask a specific question, but hard to know what to ask.
This was the hardest class ever! He didn't teach at all he just talked about whatever!
The teacher is a riot, I loved going to class. If you work hard, you will get what you deserve, if not its your fault.
Matt Dougass is the single greatest teacher on the planet, as well as a fantastic writer, staunch supporter of Republican causes, and one of the most devious assassins this side of the Mason-Dixon.
Good prof. knows his stuff. He teaches by reviewing the book with you. If you study and listen you will do well. He tests on what he has gone over.
Um...tests have NOTHING to do with what he talks about. It's pretty much all on your own. He's nice, but not very willing to help. I got the idea that he thought everyone should already know what he knew.
Great professor, very into what he's teaching.
Excellent teacher, the best I've ever had. Great sense of humor, really knows/enjoys what he teaches. Class is not easy, but he makes learning fun and interesting. I was never good at science, but after taking his class I plan on getting a degree in science after I finish the degree I'm getting now.
very good professor.
I wont lie the class is HARD but if you pay attention and listen to him you will do great. I pulled an A working two jobs and taking 17 credits and i had fun in the class. Know the classification and your golden. one of the best teachers ever.
When we started class, he said that we should be proud if we get a 'C', it's true. Right now, we have one week to cover 6 chapters in two dif. books for the test. 5% of the mat. is gone over in class and the rest is up to you. Save your GPA, don't take this course unless you like unneeded stress.
dr matt is so funny, class is very enjoyable.he is NUTS about butterflies.he knows so much and is very much ADD.the tests are hard, but if you study passable,a lot of memorizing. lab was easy w/ him, definately take him for lab. he is a fun prof
don't ever think to take him for zoology. tests are so hard. he is nice but he knows nothing about teaching.................if you don't believe me.......take soology with him and send you comments................
Matt Douglas is very passionate about what he teaches and that's what makes him a good Professor. Class was challenging but it was fun and if you are not lazy you will be happy that it is. Although he is a very staunch Republican.
he is soooooooooooooooooooo bad
Very funny professor, I didn't show up most of the time and still got a B in the class,he is very passionate about teaching. He gives a 50 pt extra credit assignment, you would have to fail all of the tests in order to fail the class. He doesn't like failing students and he puts a lot of effort into his class. Not the average up tight teacher. WOW!
Very good teacher. Does not want students to fail. His tests are hard but he gives you the essays and tells you what to study. If you do not need the class or are not good at biology do not take this class. It will take a lot of time and effort but he will teach you a lot
This class was challenging, but if you read the chapters and take notes, its not so bad. The tests are hard at first, but they get a little easier towards the end of the semester. Dr. Matt was a pretty good teacher, and is very passionate about zoology, especially butterflies!
Great teacher, laid back but into the material and teaches with enthusiasm. Very good at simplifying things. Class was some work, but he was fairly clear about what would be expected on the tests and he gave extra credit if you were slippin' thumbs up!
Had little to no interest in zoology before taking class, but has been one of the most rewarding classes taken yet at GRCC. Has a passion for material, and helping students - as long as they have the same passion. CHALLENGES you to THINK. will not suffer those who treat class, material lightly. HArd work can get an A. chances to get extra credit.
Excellent teacher. Truly has a passion for the subject (zoology) and is always more than willing to help students out. The course isn't the easiest, but he makes it as fun as possible and there are many opportunities for extra credit. If you have to take a zoology class this is the professor you want teaching it.
Worth the work!
Amazing Teacher, very funny and smart. Gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. You have to study the book inside and out, sometimes felt overwhelming. I would take that class again or just another class that he teaches.
Dr. Matt is absolutely fabulous! It's difficult material- but he'll help you. You will read EVERY word of your text book. TAKE NOTES. Class was always a good time. Pay attention when he mentions test/essay questions- he's doing it to help and those REALLY do show up on the tests. Take EVERY extra credit opportunity you can. Dr. Matt ROCKS!!!!!
He is one of the few good profs. at GRCC.
He does not teach. He makes the students go in front of the class and read from the book which you could read by yourself. I recommend another prof for sure, even though he is a pretty cool guy.
Matt is cool as a person, not so cool as a teacher! He doesnt teach in terms that you understand just reads the book outloud. The class is fun but the material is impossible! He also says Gods name in vein a lot, if thats something that bothers you steer clear of this guy! I suggest a different teacher, MORE than half of his class drops by the end
he is a pretty cool guy but he sticks directly to the books. so if you study the book word for word you will do good on the tests and he explains things thoroughly. the only thing i didn't like was that sometimes he had the students teach the class which i don't like at all because nobody knows what they are talking about.
GRCC's best Prof by far. I loved the animal biology course. It is not an easy class, you have to study, read, read, read and prepare for exams. If you are not going into a biology field I would not recommend this class because it is extremely time consuming. Dr. Matt is down to earth, helpful and easy to understand. I miss the class.
I was very pleased that this was my first class at CC. Matt is a fantastic teacher, and hi love for the subject is contagious. The class IS work, but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities and lot of understanding. Not a class for everyone, but superb!
He is an Amazing teacher, his tests are hard but if you read and write down all the essay questions that Matt gives, you should be fine. Its not a class where you can study a couple nights before also, you have to study as you go pretty much. He makes the class extremely fun and the dissections are great! I don't want this class to end!!
The best teacher I have ever had , funny, smart as hell, and very into his work. The best professors love what they do and you can tell by the way they teach Matt is so much into his work. He is the greatest teachers I have ever had. Just make sure you study really hard because his test are very difficult.
The best teacher I have ever had , funny, smart as hell, and very into his work. The best professors love what they do and you can tell by the way they teach Matt is so much into his work. He is the greatest teacher I have ever had. Just make sure you study really hard because his test are very difficult.
All tests are scantrons, which he puts the wrong answers in his keys. You have to go to his outside of class to make sure he marked it correctly because he only lets you see the scantrons, not the tests. His tests are really hard, and the exact wording of the book. He doesn't believe in bold face so you have to memorize the entire chapter.
At first I did not understand the hot chilli pepper, but later I did...This guy is just cool and is kinda hot. There is too much info in this class for Dr. Matt to cover it all in class so he just goes over the highlights in class. He is very chill and going to class isn't necessary mandatory. You have to work really hard, but it is worth it.
Prof. Matt is a really cool guy, he makes class fun and although attendance mandatory because of the labs, he allows you to come to another class if you missed yours. He is helpful to a certain extent but he doesn't give out study guides for his exams and they're extremely hard because you don't know exactly what to study.
A great teacher. Wants you to call him Matt and comes to class in jeans. Yes, his tests are difficult. However, he gives you the essays and plenty of extra credit in advance. He is very intelligent and down to earth. My favorite prof. He treats everyone equally and has a great sense of humor. Listen, take notes, compare notes, and you will do fine.
Dr. Matt is a fantastic guy who knows exactly what he is doing and what he is teaching. The class is very hard and challenging, but if you put in the effort then you will do fine. He is a really funny guy and will help you. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities so you can pass if you do it. It is a great class.
This was the most difficult teacher I've ever had. I took one exam & got a 48% on it. I had to drop the class in fear that I wouldn't pass. This may have been partially because science does not enthuse me. However, if you like science, this guy is extremely nice & you will like him as a person. Maybe not as a teacher though. Wouldn't recommend him.
Honestly, if you love science, he's the guy you want to teach you. If you aren't understanding something ask him. His tests are hard, and you will need to take notes and study. It's not an easy class. But its a very fulfilling one.
His test are hard but he gives you plenty of extra credit and drops one test score. His lectures consist of him talking and he doesn't write notes on the board (bring a voice recorder). Class requires a lot of reading in the textbook and taking the questions online. Visual learners may have trouble on his lecture tests but will exceed well at lab.
I loved this class. Yes, the tests are hard and yes, you'll have to study but Matt makes going to class enjoyable. He tells you the test essays in advance and the rest is all multiple choice. I would definitely take this class again and I wish Matt taught other classes because I would probably take them too.
oh my glob. professor matt is by far one of my favorite teachers ever. he is hilarious and very helpful! yes, there is A LOT of studying involved in this class, but guess what, thats college. If you study, you pass.
I got put in this class first semester of my freshman year. It was the hardest class! The tests are hard and he doesn't tell you what to study for them so you almost have to memorize every chapter for the test. Good guy, bad teacher. Do not recommend him.
Dr. Matt was the best professor i have had yet! he is hard and knows a ton so studying is necessary. he used to be a professor at Harvard so he has a more hands off approach but he is the coolest guy. HIGHLY suggest taking his class
Definitely a great guy and teacher. Depending on the class he'll adjust his expectations, but overall, is easy going and lenient. Very carefree and puts lots of humor into his lecture. I would recommend him for any class.
Personality wise, he is awesome! Laid back and really easy going. Learning wise, he doesn't teach you. You get a book and teach yourself pretty much. You are only graded on tests and you have no idea what will be on them. Plus he doesn't put grades on black board so you don't know your grade ever.
Wonderful personality and easy to get along with! The class is hard because you have to learn a ton within a small amount of time. He does not reference the textbook word for word. This class requires a lot of studying. He does a review before tests and gives you a list of the essays that could be on the exam. Awesome Professor!
Dr. Matt is a really amazing guy. This class is really hard. He's very scatterbrained, and there is absolutely no organization to this class. You really have to memorize the book. But just being in class counts for a lot, I've not studied for a couple of his tests and managed a 78%.
Matt is a great guy and really knows his stuff. However, if you are a person that needs someone who teaches with structure this is not the class for you. I found this class frustrating because he left the classroom often and we'd end up sitting around before he got back. Teaching yourself for this course is a MUST.
This class is one of the most fun and interesting classes I've taken and unfortunately also one of the hardest! Dr. Matt is an awesome guy but does not do a lot in the teaching aspect. Be prepared for a LOT of studying and confusion. If you're truly interested in Biology, this class is worth it.
Dr Matt is very considerate and easy to communicate with. I think it takes a special mind set and willingness to learn in this class and that is a compliment. Great class!
Dr. Matt is a very nice guy, but I felt like I didn't learn near the material people in the other sections did. He is so laid back that he opens the classroom door and then it is up to you to learn the stuff. Would love to hang out with him, but when I am paying for the course I want to learn something too.
Matt is a great guy and very funny, but he doesn't really explain the lecture very well. Goes off on to tangents and random thoughts. You really have to do some self teaching from the textbook because if you miss a class you dont miss much of a lecture. Tests are hard and made to confuse you.
Amazing professor!
Dr. Matt's class wasn't easy, but he gives you all the tools and help to pass. He wrote the book, so he knows the material covered in the book very well. There are no surprises on the test; what was covered in class is on the test. He is a very good teacher and made this hard subject fun.
Uses everything based off of the book. Doesn't explain or teach at all. Wouldn't recommend him.
Prof Douglas is a very laid back professor. He takes attendance, and the rest of the class period is free time to either study, ask questions, or work on other things. If you need structure and a lesson plan don't take him, if you have a prior understanding to anatomy and you can self-study I would take him. Tests are straight forward.
Dr. Matt is really laid back but a very smart and respectable guy. However, if you don't read or study outside the class you wont do well. He is the kind of prof that expects you to know what he knows so he wont spend much time answering a lot of questions that he thinks arent worth his time. Overall, though he is my favorite prof ive ever had.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Matt as my professor. He made my 7 week summer course fly by. He is extremely funny, and he really has a passion for what he teaches. He makes A&P very interesting. I did not really get a lot out of his lectures, however, if you put in the time outside of class and actually read the textbook, you will do just fine.
Awesome prof! Gives a lot of opportunity for points.
I took this class as an intro to the rest of my anatomy classes because I had been out of school for a while. Dr. Matt is very funny and he clearly cares about the classes he teaches. However, he can be very unorganized and might seem a little scatterbrained. Be prepared to read a lot and to teach yourself about half the material.
Great guy but his lecture will leave you lost. You have to be able to self study and read the book. No learning checks or quizzes. 4 exams with a essay at the end of each one worth around 20 pts.
Hes a nice guy but teaching is not his strong point. He said he was "trying something new" and gave us 500+ questions to put into a notebook. Each question required multiple answers. Barely any review for exams and often gave us wrong chapters and pages to study.
Dr. Matt is an awesome dude and very intelligent. If you love science you will love his classes however be prepared for a heavy work load and lots of reading. If you pay attention in his lectures and take good notes you will do great in the class, he also gives lot of points in the class making it hard to fail.
While hilarious, he is very caught up in his own scattered thoughts. No "lecture". Class usually consisted of him speed-reading various portions of chapters in the book aloud. We were meant to intrinsically know what material will be on tests. Gave off the vibe he did not want to be there. I often left wondering why I bothered to show up.
I really enjoyed Dr. Matt as my professor. He genuinely cares about the information he teaches, but you should definitely be doing work (READING) outside of class to really achieve an A. Interesting guy, interesting material.
Dr. Douglas is truly a gem! He cares so much about his students and knows the subject well. There is a TON of material to master, but you'll learn a lot in his class. I have gotten high A's all on his exams by reading the textbook and completing the homework. He will be missed by many.
Dr. Matt was a fantastic teacher. He outlined exactly what he expected of us, and there were never any surprises. If you read the pages in the textbook that he tells you to, do the study sheets he hands out, and pay attention to most of the lecture you are sure to do well in his class. He makes a more difficult topic interesting and easy.
This professor is hilarious. He is very relatable and is passionate about biology. He genuinely enjoys his students it seems. I found this class super easy. Do the short study guide and you will pass with no problem. Compared to other bio classes that I've heard about this professor is a breeze.
Cool guy, but just reads summary from back of book in class though. Really emphasizes book use, since he wrote it, and actually discourages note taking, because "everything you need is in the book". I found the class interesting, so I put in the work. Overall, I'd say he's an easier bio prof. gives 2 take him tests that help your grade.
I took this class and was super nervous because a&p can be an intimidating but he made the class fun and Im so happy I took the course in the summer. He gave good reviews on upcoming exams and always told us what to expect. Best professor to take for BI-121
Such a great professor and person. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the test and what the essay will be for the exam. Easy grader, awesome guy, easy A. Just study and prepare yourself and you're good!
He is a nice person and cares about his students, but he is very disorganized. We were never exactly sure what would be on exams. He didn't explain things well. He doesn't use blackboard and hardly ever communicates outside of class- even when test dates changed. Even though the class wasn't hard and I got an A, it was stressful and chaotic.
He is so smart but he makes you work for your grade. I had a 3.5 gpa before this class. Now its like 2.4 when Im done. Hes a great guy, he just doesnt explain stuff well and moves really fast. Like you have to constantly stay in the biology learning area to understand.
Matt was my favorite professor! I had him for my BI 177 LAB and it was so much fun. He is so funny and he prepares you well for the tests and exam. I would NOT miss class! After each lab before you leave there is a 10 question quiz over what you learned that day. You'll love Matt if you choose him as your professor!
Great Professor, & would highly recommend him for Bi-121 Lecture. He makes what you're learning fun, clear and easy to understand. You'll miss too much material if you don't attend class. I took the 7-week course so it was crammed with information. I knew absolutely nothing about Chemistry or Bio and I still manage to pass with a decent grade.
Matt is laid-back and goofy. He gives you all the notes to print ahead of time so you aren't scrambling to jot everything during lecture. You're graded only on 4 tests-- each having an essay with multiple choice. Offers generous extra credit; bumped me from an A- to 102%. Fill out his study sheets and you should be set with at least a B+.
I had him for a few different classes. He is a great guy and the classes are a lot of fun. While regular class days aren't difficult, the tests are hard and the homework is time consuming. I highly recommend him as he gives out plenty of extra credit and listens to his students. Lecture time goes over the textbook and so does homework so study.
DO NOT take an online course with him. He seems like a great teacher but online is not for him. He doesn't know how to properly post the lectures (each unit is 5-7ch's) so you get 1 lecture then the rest of them the week the test is due. Also doesn't follow the book. Tests are ESSAY tests; my last one was 19pgs. Legit had a breakdown at the end.
Dr Matt is a genuine professor who cares about the world and making sure students learn the subject at matter. One of the best professors at GRCC, I cannot recommend taking BI 153/154 enough. Very easy to talk to and ask questions.
Seriously awful. Spends most of class blabbing about random anecdotes unrelated to material. Syllabus is out of date and inaccurate. Wrote a total of 50 pages of homework. Only relevant information comes from assigned textbook, which is only occasionally referenced. I considered crashing my car to avoid attending class on a weekly basis.
