Nice guy, lets you out early when he feels like it. He is a good grader and his tests ar enot so hard. He doesn't give a lot of work, but you have to know the material good for the test. He also explains everything so you need to take notes and listen.

I really liked him. He knows his stuff and made an annoying subject interesting. He has quizzes, but they're not too bad. Do some work and you'll do well. He's a big cutie pie and he's really laid back so you like class.

The *BEST* professor for this merciless core class. Take good notes and you will do fine. Exams are fair and include short answers and short essays. I personally didn't find a semester of rocks interesting, but u gotta admire the man's passion for geology.

he's a great professor. just finishing the semester, i can't believe i actually know a ton about geology. his exams are a little difficult, but if you take excellent notes and memorize them, there's no reason you can't get an A. you don't even need the book even though he says you do. he also offers extra credit on every quiz and exam.

this is the second time i take this class and i actually passed it. He is very easy. All you have to do is take very good notes b/c exams and quizzes are from the lecture. He is the BEST professor for this class. Take him you wont regret.

Normally pass midterm, final and 3 quizz. But the best time to take him is in the fall because u miss alot of classes because of all the great holidays and u get to have 1 quiz and the regular.

BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. He makes the class interesting, does not put you to sleep, very upbeat. If you have any questions he's always available, all the exams are from the notes directly, doesn't care about attendence, exams are not difficult.

So helpful. If you have a question, or make a stupid comment, he'll sit there with you and make sure that you understand. He has a lot of knowledge, and does not boast about it. His tests are more than fair, he practically hands them to you with the A on it before-hand.

This man was the greatest geology teacher ever! He was extremely clear and helpful. Never too busy and always looking out for his students. He made simple examples and actually made rocks (or RX!) more interesting. Highly recommended! Don't take the other crazy professors. Stick with him if you want to pass

Here's the deal with Matt: He's a good guy, who speaks well and is clear but the material is boring. He tries to make it as interesting as possible but it doens't help. He is not easy - you will have to either read the book or take excellent notes but he wants to make sure you know the material. Will help you out by offering EC tho. Annoying quizes

I thought I'd really hate geology (I know I hated the lecture teacher), but I actually enjoyed studying allt he different rocks and was surprised at how I picked it up easily. He's a good teacher and he'll help tutor you after class if need be.

He's great! Very knowledgeable, super helpful. Really makes Geology interesting and relevant. I find myself using what I learned in his class a lot in other classes. Sweet dude.

Matt Garb is a very fun, easy going professor. He really knows his stuff and acheives something many professors do not...fully engaging and stimulating the interest of all his students. He is always willing to help students who are having difficulty understanding the material or labs. I highly recommend him.

Overall he is a good professor, if you are majoring in Geology take his class.

This was the most boring class i evert took he was a nice guy and his lectures were broken down so evryone understood. he def understood that this was just a core and noone wanted to be there. after looking at the horrific reviews of other profs in this dept ud be crazy not to go with him. Tests are easy and straight forward, no tricks with grading

he's a really nice professor and will help you if you ask for help. The subject itself is extremely boring. Make sure you take really good notes in class because you don't have to read the book he takes all his questions from the notes so pay attention! He didn't give us quizzes, so there was midterm and final! multiple choice and long answer

Like others have said his energy is contagious! He knows his stuff, but when it comes to assignments he scribbles his requirements on the board, and then picks through your work with a fine comb. Some people need each step spelled out for them, get over it, not in HS anymore. He is very helpful, but get ready to work, but you will have fun&learn!

Garb is one of the best core class professors I had at Brooklyn College! Geology isn't my favorite subject, but Garb goes out of his mind to make the material easy and relavent. Just 2 exams and several quizes based on lectures, and he drops the lowest grade. Take him if you like A's, I got a B because I hardly studied! Take him, you won't regret!

He's a fun teacher who is obviously passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. Note-taking is very important in his class, both on what he writes on the board and what he says. If you ever need further clarification, he has office hours. He definitely made Geology fun for me!

This is honestly one of the best professors I have had so far. He definitely knows what he is talking about and makes the class interesting. However note taking is essential and a lot of memorization. My textbook became my best friend since he does give quizzes and his tests are challenging, Other than that he's great!

I LOVED his class. He is one of those cool and down to earth professors that really wants you to learn and understand everything he teaches. If you do not understand something, he'll give various examples to try and get you to understand. Nonetheless, this class isn't hard to understand you just need to participate in class. would take him again.

Awesome professor. Very interested in the work he does. He may be a bit scatter brain but he's extremely intelligent in his field. Wants to see his students succeed, always available for help. He makes learning fun and interesting. Cool guy, definitely recommend taking a class with him. He's awesome and easy to listen to.

I'm taking EESC 1101 specifically, and he makes it almost impossible to get a good grade. Takes point off for EVERYTHING. Really nice, hilarious, very helpful but impossible to please.

Garb was a fine professor. Very likeable guy, and a good lecturer. Two quizzes, a mid term, and a final, in addition to 2 lab tests. The tests were all directly from the lecture notes, and Garb explains clearly what to expect. You do have to study, but it's a pretty laid back and easy going class. Would definitely take him again if need be.

Love him. There were 2 quizzes, they really help for the midterm and final. The class is not hard, just take notes and study off of it. He lets you choose what to answer on the exam (ie. pick 25 out of 30 to answer) so that helps. Extra credit given on exams too. Knows what he's talking about and he is the reason why I'm majoring in EES.

Really good professor that is always there willing to help students. He is really passionate about his teaching. He does grade harsh on the short answers on the midterm and final but nothing that is hard.

If youre not into dirt, you will be after taking this course with Professor Garb. Even if youre not interested its hard not to get a little into it because the Professor is really passionate about his field and that passion spreads and aids the student in absorbing the material. Great Professor!

Hes really fun and a bit weird but thats what makes the class enjoyable. He guides the lecture really well and uses a lot of drawings to help you understand better. He also explains things pretty well. 4 quizzes, which can get a bit specific sometimes but aren't that hard, 1 midterm and 1 final each for both lecture and lab.

These are the few professors who actually teach with passion and care about their students. Very laid back and is not too hard with tests. If you study you should be good. Just copy what he writes. The only critique would be his handwriting is a bit hard to read. Though he delivers a class that is almost never boring or too hard to understand.

Don't enroll in this course thinking it'll be easy it requires a lot of work to get the grade you want. Very devoted to what he teaches but be prepared to focus on his lectures for they will appear very heavily in his quizzes and exams. He doesn't require a textbook but get the one he suggests for it will be a huge help when it comes to studying.

I really enjoyed Prof Garb's class. He's really passionate about geology and very knowledgeable on the subject. I believe he did the best he could to move to an online course due to COVID. He is a tough grader so make sure you ask exactly what he wants for his labs/papers. I did well in his class but I also went to his office hours/asked questions.

Ok so here's my personal opinion. Garb is an amazing professor. It's understandable that he timed tests because of cheating. We're taking online classes, which makes cheating easily accessible. His lectures are great, but it's a flaw that he doesn't record lectures. I just wish he would've been more understanding with the pandemic happening.

Prof Garb definitely gives me Michael Scott vibes. Lecture heavy but explains everything well. If he doesnt have his tea, hell be off...(fall2020 friday lect. crew knows...). I dont like that he makes tests 90% of our grade with no hw. Its unfair to students (like me) who are bad at tests. & his test formats are odd too but hes a nice guy.

This class is really fun and Professor Garb is amongst the few professors who actually make class fun during these online classes. He'll answer any questions you have and is very straightforward when giving directions. His exams can be a bit difficult if you don't pay attention in class but if you do, there's no reason you won't pass.

Course is easy to follow, and syllabus is clear on what is expected. Class was taken online, so limitations applied, but he made the best with what he could do. Grades are based on exams, and they are pretty easy to take and pass. Very willing to answer questions and gives thoughtful responses

Lecture is 45% midterm and final. No HW. Grade entirely based on exam grades. Class was online, so exam questions were flashed on screen one at a time, 45 seconds each. He is clear on whats important in lecture, so attend class and take notes. Same idea for lab except theres 3 exams 30% each. He's a nice guy who will answer any question

TAKE NOTES AND ATTEND CLASS OR YOU WILL NOT PASS. He doesn't have useful slides and the textbook information is dense so don't even bother.

Professor Garb is a gem. He cares about his students and gives them lots of time. His lectures were engaging and entertaining, as well as informative. Take good notes; they'll get you far! He is very fair with his assignments and tests. I feel inspired by him to continue with EESC. You can't get better than Garb.

Amazing professor! Explains each concept thoroughly and clearly so it's comprehendible for all. However, because his class material is taught in class, attendance is necessary to learn the topics, otherwise get THOROUGH notes from a classmate. Take notes on everything he says! Extra credit trip opportunity as well if interested in ES or Geo.

Not an easy A but if you go to class and pay attention you will most likely pass. There are only two tests but most of the material is covered in the lecture (plus he lets you eliminate 5 questions of your choosing). I enjoyed the lab section much more than the lecture but I found the mandatory field trip to be kind of annoying.

Garb is really one of the best lecturers I've ever had. I did well on the tests bc I took good notes. I've seen a few people say that he grades based only on two exams but that's not true... the midterm and the final are 15% each; paper: 20%. He gives extra credit. I do agree the slides are not helpful. So you should show up to class.

Professor Garb's lectures are engaging, but the fast-paced exams and heavy reliance on attendance make this class quite challenging. Definitely take good notes and utilize resources like Unstuckstudy to prepare. Overall, a worthwhile course if you're willing to put in the work.

Had him for lectures only. Very talkative, Gives slides, Gives studying material for exams, Takes attendance if you're on time or late, Handwriting hard to understand sometimes, Expects participation sometimes, Walks all around the lecture room, Doesn't care if you use laptop for note taking, Passes rocks around the room for students to touch.

Really a great professor! He's very passionate about the topic & teaches us in educational and funny ways. If you're bad at science like me, you really have to pay attention & take notes, as he moves really fast. One midterm, one final, extra credit offers & very clear on what's on the exams. Definitely recommend!

He's a good professor. You need to attend lectures to understand the material on the test, but he helps a lot by giving practice tests and a clear exam outline. There is the required field trip with a field report it's a bit tedious but definitely manageable.

He cares & expects the best from you, it's a harder class than it needs to be especially for an intro course. His use of Geology Rap immediately knocks him down one point.
