Best chem lab instructor ever! He knows everything about general chemistry and can answer every questions. Quizzes are a little hard but if you do well on the data interpretation then it should be an easy class. Take him!

He's a great professor. Very clear on his explanations and will clarify any other queries you may have. He is extremely patient and will answer any and all questions you may have. Won't let you leave during office hours until you fully understand the subject you had a question on. Highly recommend him.

Very informative, fair grader. Can be a little intimidating. He's very helpful, though. My partner and I would literally ask him a question every five minutes and he didn't mind re-explaining things we didn't understand.

I had Dr. Gartner for Chem lab and lecture. I think he is fairly new to teaching lecture but was okay. Goes way too fast but is clear on the material. His lab is good, pre quizzes are fairly difficult and requires studying. My partner and I always ask lots of questions and he is more than happy to answer. Would recommend Schwartz for lecture.

I LOVE Gartner. He is a great teacher, and a really chill guy. If you ever need help you can totally go to office hours and he'll help you out with whatever you need. I never needed to go to office hours because he explained everything so well!!

He is a great teacher, but can rush through his lectures sometimes. He is a nice guy who will help you understand concepts. It was one of my hardest classes. A lot of work, but that comes with the subject. 3 tests, one final, online hw and quiz due every sunday. He is also a great lab professor, but the quizzes can be rough but he's understanding.

Really easy class. Don't need to attend lecture just go to the review sessions. Gartner is a nice guy but the material is very boring and not the least bit intellectually stimulating. It's gen chem after all, though gen chem at chapman is far easier than most schools.

One of the nicest and most organized professors I've had at Chapman. At first I didn't like his flipped-classroom model (lot's of pre-class assignments), BUT I earned a higher chem grade (3-4%) and I felt like I wasn't really trying. You get what you put in: participate and the class won't be too bad. Has reasonable office hours too.

Dr. Gartner is a great lecture and lab professor. He beautifully explains topics and makes chemistry understandable. He's also very nice and willing to help during office hours. Gives weekly homework and online quizzes, as well as daily pre-class assignments, but work load is totally reasonable. Would recommend 100%!

Dr. Gartner is clear and concise, and explains things in a way that make sense to me (sometimes). I studied a lot for this class, but it is VERY conceptual (unlike Chem 140), and I really struggled with that. Tests are hard, and tricky. However, Dr. Gartner is great, and gives you all the help that you need!

Kindest professor ever! I had him for lab but he was always willing to help with lecture as well. He explains things so well& he doesn't mind explaining multiple times until you get it. Definitely take him! Especially for lab. He is a nice grader on the final&lab report! Prelab quizzes can be difficult sometimes but they don't affect grade much!

He's a very helpful man and by the end of the class I actually started to enjoy learning about chemistry. Tests are 80% of the grade so you really gotta put in the work! Material he presents in class is very similar to what appears on his exams so pay attention and take quality notes. He's really great for lab, too. I would recommend him to anyone.

Took Dr. Gartner for Lab and im taking him again for the next semester because i liked him so much. He explained what my Chem lecture professor couldn't. Hes a nice funny guy who actually helps and answers questions in class. That being said the material itself was hard but he taught it well. Offers chances to make up tests. go to his office hours

I had a really bad experience with chemistry in high school and was afraid to take it in college. Dr. Gartner did an AMAZING job with explaining the concepts and demonstrating how they apply in real world situations. His pre-class assignments let you learn the material and he reinforces the material in lecture. I actually love chemistry now.

Dr. Gartner is seriously such an amazing Chemistry teacher. This was my second time taking the class and he was so much better than my previous professor. Provides extra practice and pre-lectures as well as makes his own YouTube videos to help his students. Just be prepared to work hard and stay on top of work to succeed in the course.

Hands-down favorite instructor of all time... He is such an engaging teacher - so smart and full of practical knowledge of chemistry. The class is a very pleasant challenge, and I promise you will walk away with a solid chemistry foundation. Rather than lecture at you, he gives you the tools to sort through difficult problems. Not an easy class, but Dr. Gartner is a great teacher and very helpful inside and outside of class. Great at explaining concepts, though his tests and worksheets are often very math-heavy. Very willing to help and provides lots of resources to practice and study.

Dr. Gartner is amazing. He's good at explaining tough concepts and he is very open to questions. I always feel comfortable asking him for help. His tests can be tough but if you are on top of the material and get help when you need it his class is manageable. Do the readings before class - if you get behind it is hard to catch up.

Dr. Gartner is an amazing professor. He really helps you understand the reasons why we learn what we do in chemistry. Classes always have discussions and are extremely interactive. He's also available for additional help at all times as he makes sure everyone knows how and when to reach him. THE best general chem professor.

I had Dr. Gartner for both CHEM 140 & 150 and he is an absolute gem. His lectures are more application based and not just taking plan notes. He teaches the material in a way that is easily understandable. Not really any homework. Graded based on exams and online quizzes/homework. Does offer extra credit so do it. He is my favorite professor!!!

Like the other ratings, Gartner is a great teacher. Had him for both lecture & lab and I would recommend that to anyone because the classes matched up perfectly; lectures always taught enough to succeed in lab. He is passionate about chemistry, & his teaching methods are great. If you got a bad grade, it's the tests/exam so study for them (do EC!)

If you're a science major at Chapman you need to take Gartner at least once! His lecture style is extremely interactive, as opposed to strictly listening to him speak. I never needed to cram for his exams, because I found myself actually understanding that topics. Exams were extremely fair and based on this understanding as opposed to memorizing.

Gartner is the most dedicated professor you will ever have. He is extremely accessible through email and office hours. Make sure to go to all exam reviews as these are vital to success in the class. If you ever have questions from lab and he is not your professor, he is always willing to help.

THE best professor I've had at Chapman yet. I find myself looking forward to his class the most out of any other, he makes it very easy to follow and the lectures are very structured and interactive. The tests follow his lectures very closely so pay attention in class and you'll barely have to study. EXTREMELY knowledgeable of the subject.

He cares so much for each of his students and their well-being and even learns their names! He is also a great lab instructor and will take the time to help you always.

Dr. G is GOD TIER. He was always available to help students, provide examples of the concepts we were learning, and help us work through problems in class. His labs are well organized and planned and he knew the answers to all the questions we asked, but rather than telling us them he helped us work to solve them to understand the subject.

He was my favourite professor from freshman year, and one of the few teachers that I looked forward to seeing everyday. he's generous with grading, he just wanted to see that you tried to understand and attempted problem solving, a rare trait to see :)

Dr. Gartner is my favorite professor. His classes were super organized with daily handouts, and lectures were exciting/engaging. Super Chem sessions were very helpful, and he was always available to help through office hours or email. He made sure we understood concepts through demonstrations and problems, and actually cared about our experience.

I would take this class again with Dr. Gartner any day. Dr. Gartner really wants his students to do well. He is willing to meet one on one, holds weekly practice sessions, holds office hours, and is one of the few professors that will help you understand a topic fully. Dr. Gartner is a gem in the chemistry department. Weekly assignments/quizzes are very manageable, tests are exactly what he taught, and he is always available outside of class to help students out or just chat about life. A super sweet professor who loves his students and loves chemistry. Would take every class with him if I had the chance!

I took CHEM 140 lab with Dr. Gartner online and despite the circumstances, he still found creative ways to connect lecture content with at-home labs and online simulations. Grading was incredibly lenient; he cares more that you make a genuine effort than if you get everything right. Always got us out of lab early too, which is a plus :)

I have had Dr. Gartner for several classes and just take ANY course he teaches. He is amazing. Analytical chem and gen chem he is phenomenal. His lectures are amazing and it's a must to attend them. He is always available after class and able to be reached. Analytical chem is tougher since its an upper div but Dr. Gartner makes it very fun and easy

Dr. Gartner is my favorite prof at Chapman. I've taken all gen chem lec and labs with him and he's the best. The in class worksheets and small group discussions are super helpful so def go to class. Grading is pretty lenient; if you miss one step but do the rest of the question right you'll still get points for the rest.

One of the best professors I have had at Chapman, I took both Chem 150L and Chem 310 + Lab and Chem 441 +Lab and loved it. His exams are fair and cover the material covered in class. Lectures are super helpful and help with understanding. Also, the Lab project is a highlight of the 441L class, would recommend it to any chem or bio fouced student.

I can truly say Gartner is my favorite professor throughout my college career. Had him for general chemistry (140&150), and took both of his analytical chemistry courses (310&411). He really wants to see you succeed and makes super complex concepts/topics very digestible. His worksheets reflect the content on exam, he isnt trying to trick you.

Taking Dr. Gartner's class for lecture and lab has been the best decision I've made for two semesters in a row. CHEM 150/150L can be challenging in terms of content, but Dr. Gartner is incredibly fair; his lectures cover exactly what is on the test and he does everything he can to help your grades. Amazing professor, even better human being.

tbh in the beginning it takes a little bit to get used to his teaching style but after that, you begin the realize the routine he has. he's an incredibly fair grader - even if your answer is wrong, you can still get the majority of the points if your work was on track. very caring and all you really need to study for exams are his worksheets.

I'm usually really bad at chemistry, but taking Dr. Gartner's class genuinely made me want to keep going and I felt so rewarded whenever I'd do well on an exam. There are no pop quizzes, and most of your grade depends on the Mastering Chemistry homework that you get and tests. He holds super chem sessions which ARE SUPER HELPFUL GO TO THEM.

Dr. Gartner is the best chemistry teacher out there! He makes the learning experience very personalized. He remembers every students name, is easy going, and sets out a lot of time outside of class for extra help like SUPER chem sessions or SI help. You will not regret taking him at all! At the end of it, you'll wish he taught every course!

Professor Gartner is great! Study from the lecture worksheets and the Superchem worksheets since they are really similar to the exams. Gartner is also available to meet outside of class and really helps you learn the subject matter. I'd recommend going to SI every week so you don't fall behind since the subject matter builds.

Great professor, difficult course. If you have a strong foundation going into this class youre fine. He gives out class worksheets with practice problems which are fairly easy. Although, his tests and quizzes are difficult. You have to spend a lot of time studying for this class.

The class was very understandable. The pre-class assignment can be annoying because we don't know the material and have to get the questions right. The super-chem worksheets were very helpful for the exams. He also gives a lot of partial credit. You need to study for the tests as they are only 55mins long. He is a great professor.

CHEM 150 is a tough course but Dr. Gartner's lectures made it more bearable. You definitely need to be on top of assignments, such as pre-class as the class can feel overwhelming if you don't. Also, attend the SuperChem sessions whenever possible. He creates challenging but really good practice problems which helped me prepare for the tests/quizzes

Dr. G is super funny and always started my day with a smile! He is always there to help you and literally hosts an extra class period every week called "super chem" on top of his normal office hours. He makes all the instructional videos to make sure you know what you need to before lecture. But if you don't pay attention in class you're screwed.

Every single day has a worksheet that is helpful to make sure you get all info. Reverse learning style can be difficult but helps understand material better. Watch his videos before lecture, and then class solidifies the material to understand everything. Super nice/wholesome guy

Has worksheets that you fill out during lecture w extra Qs + answers posted. Test questions are exactly like the notes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get all the notes in class. Holds study sessions too.

Dr. G is great! He is very patient and explains concepts well. He will break down all the topics for you so you can understand them to the fullest extent. He is definitely harder than the other professors but will give you the best base for all chemistry knowledge as someone who is taking the Ochem series as well.

TAKE HIM! Only Dr. G does guided notes instead of slides for gen chem. General chemistry has a lot of topics which are hard to correlate to each other, but Dr. G does a really good job of tying the concepts together to make them build onto each other. He's also really caring and makes himself really accessible.

Dr. Gartner is a really good chemistry prof. He will give you a book that is basically your bible for the class. This book includes practice problems, important lecture notes, and space for you to write anything you want. Exams will really test how well you know the content. His lectures are fun and engaging, but the content can be difficult.
