Matt is a really good teacher. He knows the material extremely well and likes to help students. He will make you work for your grade though. I had him for lab and his tests were easy if you knew the material.
He can get a little scatterbrained from time to time, but he's totally willing to go over things that seem unclear. Very specific study guides are provided for exams, no surprises and very fair (bordering on easy) grading policies. Make sure to study essay questions and study guides at length and you'll do great. Good lab instructor also!
LOVE matt! hes funny he makes awesome study guides and i actually learned a lot from him! I cant stress enough how much you should take this class! He's amazing
matt is a cool guy once you get to know him, but he is not very clear on what he is going to test you on. he challenges his students with lots of work. in lab he likes to have students teach each other instead of him teaching. hes a nice guy but not the best teacher. he needs to make the subject a little more exciting and fun
Unclear? He tells you EXACTLY what's going to be on the exams including essay questions, and hosts review sessions before each. He can get scattered, but goes over anything he's asked to. The independent-ish lab was great since everyone went at their own pace, though that's a matter of preference, I guess. A pretty easy A or B if you study.
Run Away!! His lectures are so boring as he talks in a low level tone, so you have to sit close and he is extremely disorganized!!! The only good thing I can say is he does review sessions before an exam, tests are mostly essay answer questions.
Matt is awesome and makes lectures really interesting. Highly recommend!
Mr. Halter is brilliant and is extremely helpful. He pushes students to do their best and believes that by teaching others you will reinforce your own knowledge in the lab, but he never hesitates to clarify anything. He also makes a point to learn the names of all of his students very quickly. I highly recommend him.
Matt is a great lecturer so they go by quickly and he makes them relatable so its easier to understand the subject material. He uses the book very little so there isn't much need to buy it if you don't think you need it. Overall a wonderful teacher, he really cares about his students and has a passion for his job and the subject he teaches.
Matt is so smart and he really knows his stuff. I think he a fantastic teacher, and a super cool guy. He knows everyone by name, and learns about each of his students. He is a GREAT teacher. You have to come to class and pay attention.
Matt is easily the best instructor I have had at Cabrillo. Tests are fair. This was the only 8 AM class that hasn't put me to sleep. He makes the material interesting and is hilarious. Definitely recommend Matt as an instructor.
Mr. Halter is a brilliant. He not only knows the subject matter but he quickly learns the name of every student and really pushes you to succeed. He is very helpful but expects you to be direct with your questions. If you come to class and take good notes you may be able to get by without purchasing the text book. Awesome professor.
Matt is great! He has very clear expectations of his students, and explains things well. The exams are rarely multiple choice -- often fill-in-the-blank, short essay and short answer. Which for some people is intimidating. But the exams are straight forward. All anatomy courses require a lot of work, be prepared to put in a lot of time!
Awesome instructor!! One of the best for a science class! His tests can be hard so you have to put time into studying. Copy the pictures he draws& remember his examples! He uses them on tests.the labs are cake
not only is he a personable teacher, but he loves to let you learn on your own. there are lots of chances to work on the cadavers either in class or he will open up the lab on weekends for more time with the cadavers most of the time. also, before tests, he forms a study group-lecture-ask me anything you want- get together cuz he loves his students
Matt is a fantastic teacher and he really wants all of his students to succeed. It is really important to attened lecture because all of his exams are from lecture. He makes his exams from the study guide so as long as you study those you will do well. Matt really loves anatomy and that makes you love it too.
Awesome. Enough said.
**He sure knows how to teach a class**
Matt's class is very well organized and he is great at staying on schedule and presenting the material clearly. He holds the students to a high standard, but is always willing to help and gives extra credit opportunities prior to exams. He was always fair and always based grades on student knowledge of the subject. Great class!
Great teacher. Easy on the eyes too.
I think I would have gotten the grade I studied for if he had organized his exams and questions in a more straightforward manner. He doesn't realize that he is inconsistent and confusing, but he is. If you have him as your teacher next semester, I recommend studying the notes with your classmates if they happen to be friendly enough..
He's an interesting teacher. Has a dry humor. Likes to call on people in class a lot. Very entertaining. Tests are a mix of multiple choice, short answer, and 2 essay questions. Lab is pretty straight forward. Overall- I'd recommend him
A+ lecturer, C+ teacher. Very engaging in class and personable. However, he doesn't seem to realize he asks more than most teachers on campus, or that he's teaching at a junior college. He seems stuck in a grad school mindset that may benefit his top students but leave the average student stranded. Try him in two years- he'll have mellowed down
Halter is a great instructor. He learns all his students names withing a few weeks. Exams are straightforward based completely off the lectures! Lab practicals are tough but he does allow for you to visit outside of your assingned lab time to study. Class is not easy but manageable. Hope your not slacking cus he will call on you during class!
He really helps you and gets you interested in the topic! He's the best professor ever.
Great teacher. The subject is hard, however, he trys to make it as easy as possible for you to learn. Tests are difficult but not impossible. Study and do your homework and you will do great. He has a dry sense of humor, but you will know when he is joking around.
Probably my favorite class I've ever taken because of Matt. He really knows how to keep your attention hahaha. I look forward to going to his classes. Definitely would love to have him as a professor again. Very helpful and there when you need him.
He is so awesome! He has a great personality. Always making jokes during lecture. There is a lot of material but, if you study you can for sure get an A. Love him so much gonna miss him next semester
Matt is a great professor, one of the best teachers i've ever had. keeps class very interesting, you'll never get bored if you listen. Likes to call people out but not to harsh. Engages extremely well with students, especially if you joke back with him. Gonna miss him as a professor a lot. 100% would recommend. TestsQuizes based 100% on lecture
Matt Halter is an exceptional instructor. Simplifies what the textbook says, is VERY patient and caring. This is an instructor who actually interacts with students as equals and loves his job. What else can I say? The class is dense but it is definitely fun and rewarding. I recommend taking the lab as it solidifies your anatomy skills.
Matt is a wonderful teacher who maintains a lot of compassion for the subject of anatomy, and his students. If you're willing to put in the work he will meet you half way. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and definitely attend office hours if anything is unclear.
Do yourself a favor. Awesome teacher. Lectures are interesting, clear and easy to follow - plus Matt is always funny. No one ever wants to miss class. This is not a hard course, but you will have to devote some time because there is a lot of material. Exams are based solely on lecture, but I found the book useful for reference, especially in lab.
If you have to take Human Anatomy, take it with Matt. Yes its a hard class and requires a lot of studying, but if you put the time in you will do great. Matt is very clear, always makes himself available for help and the tests aren't bad if you study. Little homework, but that's because you are expected to study. Matt is awesome
Only gives 4 tests. Small online hw assignments but only need to have partial finished by end of semester. Very casual class, always willing to get to know everyone without being nosey. Does his best to answer any and every question you have, almost just handing you the answers to his tests (if you ask the questions). RARELY puts you on the spot.
took matts class in the fall, it was a good class, likes to call on people in lecture, tests based on lecture, he is funny and will try to make you laugh. overall gonna miss him and his class it was probably one of the best classes i have take at cabrillo
Matt makes a point to know you and be your friend. The course is inherently difficult but he does what he can to make it easier. His lecture and lab are fun and he tries to keep everyone engaged. The course will require studying but his tests are well organized and his study guides cover them well. Take his lab and lecture if possible.
MATT WAS A GREAT PROFESSOR! HE HAD A LOT OF VISUAL AID (WHICH WORKED WELL FOR ME) AND WAS ALWAYS READY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. HIS TESTS WERE VERY DIFFICULT, BUT IF YOU STUDY HARD YOU'LL DEFINITELY GET AN A. HE ALWAYS TOOK A LOT OF TIME TO EXPLAIN A CONCEPT TO MAKE SURE WE ALL UNDERSTOOD. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS TO PASS.
Matt's class is very entertaining and highly informative. The content is challenging but he completely prepares you for his lecture-based exams. He can be difficult to talk to and will often stop paying attention to you mid-conversation. He is as enthusiastic and charming as he is awkward and dismissive. At the end of the day. his class is great!
Matt is a great professor. He's very funny, and makes lecture as entertaining as possible. Also, he keeps students engaged by randomly calling on anyone he pleases to answer a question. This was the toughest class I've ever taken, but he seemed to really care about the success of his students. A lot of studying needs to be done, can't BS this one.
Matt is awesome!! He's pretty entertaining and his sense of humor is classic. I enjoyed his class and found his answers to be helpful if not hilarious. I definitely had to study for this class, and Matt was right- study groups absolutely help. Just try to make a friend or 3 and make some flashcards. I would take his class again in a heart beat!
Matt is the best Bio4 teacher at Cabrillo. He's hilarious and respects his students. His lectures are awesome. If you need to take Bio 4 or 5 take it with Matt! He's the amazing and I would take another class with him.
Hands down favorite class I've ever taken with favorite instructor. Matt has a great sense of humor and is so passionate about anatomy. Lots of memorization but the class in general is really interesting. Tests aren't bad if you study and he makes lectures entertaining with his examples and drawings on the board. Taking BIO 5 w/ Matt as well.
Matt is the best professor i have ever had. He's very helpful, the class is tough but if you study and go into his office hours when you have questions everything will be a breeze. I have fallen in love with anatomy thanks to him.
He's an amazing teacher and very funny. I always enjoyed his lectures.
Lecture tests were short answers and essays, except the final was multiple choice. Lab had prelabs and quizzes. Overall great class and teacher. Only thing I didn't like about the class is that the lectures/notes weren't posted online so if you missed class or didn't write down something he said, you'll miss valuable information. Go Warriors!
you really have to work for an A. Hardest I have had to study for an A
Matt was incredible, he truly cares about his students. He holds study sessions before exams. Posts lectures and review guides online. Review everything on the study guides and go to him or classmates for help and you will do great. Lecture along with lab are A LOT of work, so be ready to STUDY but it is not difficult if you devote time to it :)
Never met a professor that makes it a point to learn every students name. His class changed my life, if you are at all interested in science take any one of Matt's classes.
Matt is kind, caring, and funny. The content of the class naturally requires studying and doing the work, however, Matt makes it fun and as approachable as possible. I would definitely recommend him for Anatomy and any other course for that MATTer :)
Matt is a great professor. He starts every class asking for a joke. If you do not attend class you will not pass. If you do not go to open labs you will most likely not pass. you do not need a text book because the website you have to purchase a code for comes with an online book. He tries to put things into simplest terms.
Matt is the best professor I have ever had, hands down. He cares about the material as well as his students. If you take the time to really study the material, you will get a lot out of his class. Study hard, and you will remember the concepts years after his lecture. Go Matt!
You have to pay attention during his lectures and follow him back and forth between topics. Easy on the eyes. Do not take him if you are not self motivated.
Matt is a great teacher. He explains the material in a clear way and if you don't understand it, just ask him and he will be sure to help you understand. He has a dry sense of humor that makes everyone laugh and relax. If you take notes in his lecture, you should be just fine on the exams-as long as you study your notes! Lab is great fun!
Matt Halter is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I enjoyed going to all of his lectures, despite the hard coursework. Besides being a great science teacher, he is amazingly caring, funny, and takes the time to learn every students name. He is also VERY easy on the eyes if you know what I mean ;) I'm sad I wont have him again.
Matt Halter is a great professor! You must attend his lectures in order to pass exams, but the lectures are amazing! He's very entertaining, but you still learn so much from him. His quizzes are multiple choice online but his exams are written. If you attend the lectures and do the study guides then you should be ok for the exams.
Matt is amazing. He takes the time to learn everyone's name and their interests, which I've never seen before from a professor. His lectures are great and he isn't bad to look at either ;) I recommend him to everyone!
Matt Halter is honestly one of the best professors I've had. He definitely makes you work for the A but his expectations are not anything unreasonable. Tests are based on lecture material and are written so don't miss class. Do the study guides! He is a great lecturer and is super funny which makes class enjoyable. Very good looking so that's a +.
LOVE Him, his is so good! really loves teaching and makes sure you understand the material. He takes the time to explain everything. I would take him again; I have already taken two of his classes.
Matt is a great teacher. I currently have over 100% in the class, but thats not the average grade so I wouldnt say an easy A for most. Its pretty average in difficulty, but definitely not hard to get an A. You will need to study the material outside of class. He is funny and uses an online book so you can save money. Hes also very caring.
Matt is a very funny teacher, he likes to start every class with jokes! likes to learn students' names & likes to call on people. his lectures are very informative & you need to spend a lot of hours outside class to really learn the material. its a fast paced class but its possible to get an A. he uses an online textbook saves you $
If you are thinking of taking anatomy or physiology, take it with Matt. He is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. He uses great comparisons in daily life to help you understand difficult topics. He is very personable and keeps the class interested and laughing. Attendance is not mandatory for lecture but if you miss class, you won't pass!
Matt's one of the best teachers I've had. Great at sticking to the material you need to know (doesn't "over cover" just to impress). He teaches with refreshing levels of honesty & wry humor. He's fair, loves the subject, gets to know students & offers extra credit. If you go to class & follow his study tips, you'll learn the material & get an A.
I took Matts anatomy class over a year ago and havent been at Cabrillo since but still think of him often. He makes an impression on you and its hard to forget him. Its probably best for my marriage I had already taken the other courses he teaches... I miss Matt!
Matt is a fun teacher and keeps you engaged with the material. Be ready to be called on and maybe think of a joke you'd like to share with the class too (since he starts off each lecture with one). You have to go to class to pass. His lecture is what you need to know for the test.
I took Matts class, a few semesters ago and I wish I could take it again because he made it so enjoyable even though it was a difficult course. He really leaves an impact on you, he will always make time for students who need the help. He has an amazing sense of humor and makes a tough class enjoyable. I would take his class again if I could.
Great teacher and fun class to be in. Always available to help you. To do well is going to lecture, study notes and study guide (textbook not necessary). I am taking Bio 4 and Bio 5 with him this semester w/ A+ in both. Same case for both classes. Bio 4 lab is a lot of tedious memorization, but lecture is great. Bio 5 lecture&slab R great.
HEs such a great dad. I wouldn't highly recommend taking his classes. Going to class is always fun and exams are always fair.
Matt is a really great teacher! If you wan't to get an A in his class, just show up and take really good notes. I really recommend recording the lecture because the exams are all off his lectures. He tries to make class entertaining and is always there to help. I really recommend Matt!
This is a difficult class in general, but he has great lectures and makes his expectations very clear. There's plenty of lab time, as well as open hours for additional study time. He is also very accessible during office hours.
Overall amazing. Lectures are clear & covers what will be on the quiz/test. Id suggest recording his lectures and taking really good notes, then re-writing them immediatly after lecture. His lab class was ok. Basically tells u what u need to kno and lets u take care of it on ur own. Lots of opportunities 4 q's as well as etra labs n office hrs )
Anyone interested in Nursing should look into Valparaiso University! My friend told me about it, and I got in! I'm going to start this summer, and it's fully accredited, they give generous scholarship, and it's 15 months long! He is a great professor had him for both Anatomy and Physiology.
He is a little all over the place, but he is an amazing teacher. He is always available when needed and keeps lectures interesting! Great class!
Matt really wants his students to not only do well but get an A. Anatomy is hard nonetheless but there's no one I would recommend more than Matt. Such a fun guy and really makes the effort to get to know his students.
Matt is a great professor. He is always available outside of class and is willing to help! The material is hard if you dont study, if you put the work in, you will do great. His lectures are clear and there are plenty of opportunities to receive extra help. Highly recommend him!! Hes also really funny too.
Fun and engaging lectures! Matt is always available and willing to help, so if you get stuck in some point or some concept dont hesitate to go ask him, show up for the office hours!
I enjoyed his class immensely. However, I took his class as a pre-req for nursing, and as I study for my TEAS test, I realize how many things he did not go over in his class. I had to go back a re-teach myself a lot of Anatomy. Looking back, I wish I would have taken a professor that was a bit more challenging and would have prepared me better
Matt is a great professor! I took his class for Bio 4 and Bio 5 and got A's in both. He is always willing to help outside of the classroom. Creates a very positive learning environment.
One of the best professors of my academic career. Cares about his students, and is excellent at teaching. His lecture style broke down extremely detailed concepts into material that was accessible and understandable. Provides notes that go with each lecture that are a great help for "connecting the dots" conceptually. Work load is reasonable!
Matt Halter was a pleasure to do virtual learning with over Summer 2020. He seamlessly explains physiology in a simplistic manner that is easy for students to grasp. I still return to his Youtube channel to reference concepts (now in Micro). Stay on top of the work, take advantage of office hours, and you will do well. Matt is a GREAT professor.
This class was online because of COVID .He uploads about 20-30 minutes of lecture video every week, a 4 unit class has 3-4 hours of in person lecture normally. We are getting a fraction of the lecture but are expected to know just as much. Youtube and Udemy videos are more in-depth than this class is. Wait til COVID is over to take this class.
I don't feel like I'm being set up for success by Prof. Halter during this period of mandatory online learning. Very minimal lecture, no lecture notes. The tests often contain specifics or curveballs that were not covered in the short lectures or in the textbook. I'm sure he's great in person when he actually commits time and energy to his students
horrible experience. Uses youtube videos to teach and doesn't actually teach the material. Also doesn't assign homework and makes tests and quizzes unnecessarily confusing. It feels like he doesn't want you to pass. I'd wait for in-person learning, I felt lost and defeated all semester.
You are only graded on tests and quizzes. Quizzes and tests are often complicated because the "questions" are not specific in what they ask. Lectures are rather short, this is a 4 unit class so you would think they would be longer and include more detail.
Very disappointed, I was excited to take this course with Prof. Halter but he was not at all what his ratings describe. He was unresponsive and when he did he was rude. He doesn't assign a lot of homework and he also doesn't explain any of it. The class was so unpleasant and I felt like a bother asking him for clarification or any help.
Matt is a great teacher and I recommend his class. Coming from a student who has taken physiology twice, In this course I got to grasp what I am being taught & his teaching allows for me to keep my understanding of the material clear. Highly recommend!
I don't know how to feel about this professor. I only passed thanks to the SI leader. I recommend attending Tutoring sessions and SI if you have some. Other than that the professor was very hard to get ahold of. During Office hours he is very uninterested. Lecture exams are 80% of your grade. Lab exams barely pull my grade up. Test is confusing.
I had a better experience with prof halter in BIO5 than in BIO4. I enjoyed the material this semester as I learned many things. There was some extra credit but I am not sure if he always does them so beware and DO THEM! Be sure to attend SI as it was beneficial this semester with extra help. Also, do attend office hours! Beware little math involved
After seeing all the ratings, I was a little nervous taking this class, but it was great. Material is not easy so definitely want to attend SI lectures each week, no pop quizzes, he lets you know before hand- and gets back to you with any questions fairly quick. 5 exams- mixture of multiple choice and short answer and there's about 8 quizzes.
My favorite teacher of all time. Extremely smart and knowledgeable. Explains things better then I could ever learn on my own. Thankful for him.
He doesn't want the student to learn, his exams are tricky and hard to comprehend especially when he gives you questions with wrong answers. we had 3 exams and a final exam ALL of them he had to add points at the end because more than 1 question did not have the correct answers displayed.
Matt is an amazing professor. He makes the material palatable and easy to digest. He explains things in a way that makes it easier to comprehend. I was not looking forward to taking anatomy, but he completely changed my perspective and made it a fun class. I would 100% recommend Matt!
I know this is an online class but I was disappointed with the lecture videos that were posted. They're all outdated and most of them he would talk politics for 10 minutes and do a "lecture" for 5 minutes. Some of the times he would forget to post quizzes or post the readings for OpenStax and not from the Silverthorn book.
His online tests are HARD! He tries to make the questions un-googlable which is fair but ends up making them so hard that our mean grade for one exam was 65%. The right answer was not there in multiple choice qs. I imagine in-person would be easier. He knows a lot about the human body and gave points back if you talk to him after the test.
Tough course no matter the instructor, would have weekly videos posted- only con is that a few times he posted these midweek and hw was still due on original date. Tests are worded in a way where you can't cheat-makes the questions tricky but I attended SI meetings and passed with a B. Gave 2 opportunities for extra credit which was appreciated.
I had Matt for lab for anatomy. The course is difficult no matter what, but if you stay for the class period, he will make it clear what is expected of you. I was lowkey scared of him in the first two weeks because he's kinda blunt but then he warms up and is actually really funny. Build a relationship with him! All grades for lab: three exams, 1HW
Matt's tests are not too easy and not too hard. He asks some questions that are intentionally written to see how well you know the material, and only rarely puts in a trick question. Grading is lenient--he gives points for questions people argue effectively over and gives bonus/extra credit points. Flexible and kind. Know lecture material.
The class is not one of the easiest, But He's willing to help if you need it. His test questions are usually made up the day before or the day of the quizzes or tests, but if you studied you should have no problem. I'm a very slow learner and I was able to get a B/B+ in the class. He does his best to help you if you are struggling. Enjoy the class!
I took anatomy at a different school and had to drop because it was so difficult form me. After a few years I decided to give it another try at Cabrillo. Matt was an amazing teacher and helped me understand so much. He always lets you go into other labs he is teaching if you need extra time studying the cadavers.Exams only on lectures not textbook.
The class is challenging, but worth it. Attend SI sessions and visit office hours - professor is helpful and fair with grading. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the textbook. Exams are tricky, but manageable with preparation.
He's passionate about the subject & helps us see why it matters. Supportive, relatable & approachable, he often reminds us he was once in our shoes, which makes his teaching sincere. He explains tough material with energy and clarity, encourages questions, shares resources, and creates a space where we feel capable. I'd take every class with him!
Matt is hilarious, engaging, and an overall great teacher. Easy and inviting to ask questions. He makes me feel suupported and ill be taking microbiology and physio with him. I reccomend. Tests are multiple choice and straightforward if material is reviewed.
Most difficult anatomy teacher as far as tests and grading. But a GREAT teacher.
