He is fun to listen to and easy to get along with.
Made history understandable and fun!
Dead sexy, funny, and probably one of the best history profs on campus!
Explains things very clear, works w/students and keeps it interesting
Actually made history interesting--his looks are an added bonus!!

It didn't matter I hated history I always went to class to see him!
gets off topic from time to time, helps if you can find him
Expects you to laugh at his jokes. Makes goofy faces.
FUN CLASS...very down to earth
still hate history, but johnson is so hot
He's funny and interesting
Very nice to look at! Interesting to listen to. Tests are pretty specific though

Very yummy and appealing to the eyes.
my fav. teacher on campus-NW is stupid for cutting him this year
Very helpful, open-minded, very attractive, smart, a little scatter brained.
Very do-able! Great teacher, makes class interesting! Definetly recommended!
I'll second that very do-able....I want to switch my major because of him.
Favorite teacher; e-z on they eyes; nice, not conceited either. Cute smile.
Very adorable. I like the way he gets into the topics.
really fun to listen to and makes a boring gen ed fun
Matt is a great teacher and advisor.
Hot, no backbone on when to turn in papers, easy to underst. and knows his stuff
good teacher, knows his stuff; tests cover lots of info; funny! ez on eyes
Very incredable teacher. Really gets into things and makes students excited too.
Awesome teacher..tests hard but lectures are enjoyable
HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT....and very cool.

GREAT teacher, knows what he is talking about and makes class interesting!!!
its funny watching him just around, definatly the best history teach on campus!
He is a great teacher! He knows what he is talking about. Makes class fun
Strongly recomended
Good teacher...young enough to not make the lectures boring...keeps it interesti
Awesome teacher--definitely one of my favorites!

Matt is excited about teaching, attractive but a little spacey.
He was an awesome teacher, just slooooow to get things done. Great class
Great guy, pretty easy, tests aren't that bad
FUN CLASS!..never liked history until this class! very cute..hehe
Very good guy. Take this guys class
VERY unorganized and scatter brained, don't expect tests back within 3 weeks, but, a great guy just the same. Adds humor to his lecture and genuinely cares about students. Go to class, take notes, go to the SI and you'll have no problem.
Makes lectures fun and interesting. Makes sure that everyone understands before going further. Very nice and helpful
A little spacey- but that's ok- He's HOT! Interesting class, alot fun! Take him if you can!
Yes he is HOT! I had troubles with tests! But he was nice to look at!
He is a great teacher. He wants you to participate in class discusions as long as you do that and study you are guaranteed a good grade.
Hes a great teacher, he wasnts you to learn and succeed, his tests are somewhat hard, just study and youll get an easy A!
A great instructor. He is doing just what he needs to be doing. Makes history interesting, even to me. Real life examples. And, like everyone else has mentioned, pretty easy on the eyes (easy, girls....he's married).
Great guy, loves to teach, loves his stuedents, attractive, easy-ish tests. great choice.
Great teacher. Loves his students and history. Makes it interesting. And though he is hot, he's married and has the cutest baby ever.
Great guy who really knows his stuff. Teaches on a level that you can understand. Take him if possible!

Cool prof.
My class was at 8am MWF & our class was always full.
I love his class!!!!
great teacher

"I might be some guy who beat up Matt Johnson on the street and I assuming his identity" Hysterical Survey
HES AN AWSOME TEACHER.
He is so into what he's teaching and it makes class fun. Not to mention very good looking...
He has a great passion for what he teaches which comes out in his lectures. He's easy to understand and follow. Tests are tough.
This class is very interesting but it is really hard.
good teacher, fun, crazy!
Mr. Johnson is the kind of teacher that makes students try hard to do well.I did not do the best I have ever done in a class(B-),but I learned more than I ever have and enjoyed going. You will be happy you had him and will feel like you're learning.
His tests are hard but he's a wonderful teacher. I learned a ton in this class and genuinely enjoyed going to it.
This guy is nuts- but in a good way! Awesome professor! Reccommend taking these classes together-lectures overlap especially during 1900s. Just study and go to class- he keeps you interested. First history class I've ever enjoyed and I learned a lot!!
Ok, the class is awesome. Really liked the lectures but the tests are hard! There's no way you can cram so either learn it ahead of time or don't. Don't expect much help from him. The Grad Assistants grade the essays and they don't have a clue.
Good Teacher!! Take notes and do the reading and you should be fine!
If you are not good at taking tests this class is very hard because that is all that your points consist of...except for the seven page paper.
How dare you give Matt Johnson a blue face. Perhaps, my favorite teacher here while at Northwest. Works well with his students
Johnson is a great teacher but the class is pretty dang hard. Johnson has to be one of the best teachers to take the class with but it's a very hard 100 level course. Be prepared to take lots of notes and read often.
Very interesting lecture. Really knows his stuff. Take good notes and tests aren't that bad.
Lectures almost all the time. Gets boring every now and then. Not many chances to make your grade- tests and a big huge paper. If you read the chapters in the book, you'll be ok
Matt Johnson is very good at helping you learn new things...i find the tests very difficult and sometimes hard to study, but i learned quite a bit about asia in this class...the best gen ed to take in the humanities section.
Johnson is a stud. However the helper guy seems to be.... Yeah!! Class is hard no doubt but the guy knows his stuff and you are graded on tests, 1 quiz, and a 7 page paper which isnt that hard cause I wrote it in 5 hours the night before it was due and still got a B on it. GO TO CLASS AND YOUL BE OK
Though Eastern World can be confusing at times, Matt really tried to make it interesting. Good guy who really works well with his students and understands their needs. I would recommend him
Great lecturer! Makes class interesting. Tests are hard, but go to class and you'll do fine.
Good teacher. Class consists mostly of note taking/tests. One major paper for the class.
Take this class. He is a great teacher and it is very intresting. Always go to class, he sees who goes and who doesn't. It helps in the long run. Lots of studying for tests, they are hard. Dont go to his SI, he doesn't know anything about the class.
I really liked Johnson but the class is kind of hard. Just make sure you study and go to the extra credit opportunities and you'll be ok!
He can get kind of confusing sometimes, but he is really willing to help and gives a bunch of chances for extra credit. The only thing that bugged me was he saws "let me check that" alot!!! just gets annoying, but overall I would reccomend.
He is an interesting teacher. But he talks too fast sometimes. Tests are easy if you study for them. He has some interesting stories and rambles sometimes but I would suggest taking him.
I loved this teacher, I think he is one of my favorites. His lectures are fun to listen to, but he tends to go all over the place. The tests suck, but the essay was super easy.
his test SUCK and can destroy your grade!!! i studied and it still wasn't to easy. the one paper that you do helps your grade and is very easy. I dont exactly recomend this teacher
Well, he loves to lecture and he talks fast. The tests are not that great either. He'll give you the essay, so at least you'll know what to study for that, just make sure you have a thesis! But the mult. choice on the test sucks! The paper is easy and will help your grade out a lot, plus if you need help with it, he'll help you.
I loved the material he taught, but I had a feeling he didn't cover everything he wanted to cover. Teaching style was a little... off, but he's a really nice and willing to help.
loved him as a teacher fun

Matt Johnson is awesome!!! He is funny, and he knows his****! If you listen in class you should do fine in his class. You do need to read the book, just for those few questions on the test. But he is a great teacher. Best teacher to take for History
He knows what he's talking about and he's just a really nice and funny guy. I like it.
One of my favorite professors EVER!
He has a wittyness to him that is hard to get sometimes, but for someone who really like history, like I do, he is a great professor. 8 am classes aren't that fun, but they are enjoyable with the guy.
Yes, he is funny, but NOT funny enough to be crushing out on him! Jeez, people!
really knows his stuff, or really knows how to b/s... but either way, the final was probably the hardest test i have ever taken in my whole life. if you know you're going to slack, dont take this class, and if you are in your right mind, dont take this class at 8 o clock in the morning.
I love history, yet I hated his class. You have to go to every class if you hope to pass, because he just simply lectures and that's IT! He just talks and talks and talks. I hated his lecture style! I wouldn't reccomend taking his class at 8:00a.m. or at any TIME!
The class isn't too bad! You do have to take the notes and pay attention, though. I had him at 8am and it was all good, as long as you had some caffiene. You may want to get some outside resources for this one. He does go a little fast. Just read the book, study almost every night, take notes, and you'll be fine! A lot of interesting stuff!!
He is very good teacher as long as you go to class. He gives out good study guides, but you also need to follow the text. He tells you exactly what he will ask. He's a nice guy and if you needed help, he's very approachable.
He was very helpful to me. I liked his class alot. Sure he talks alot and dosen't write much down but if you ask him he will help you with the notes. Also if you want to pass his class GO. He is good about helping you though so I recomend him to anyone.
His tests are a bit hard, but then again, this isn't my strong point. I like his lectures, though he goes a bit fast. He's really nice and approachable. My biggest problem is that I have never known my grade in that class, and it always bugs me and makes me nervous when I don't know.
Fun teacher! Gave us extra credit for the silliest things!
he is a great teacher to have... i really like him as a teacher...... tests sucks cause i hate writing the essay questions but there are only three of them.... take this class... its a blast... even if your not majoring in history
Simply amazing, I don't think I've ever had a teacher that was more into what he was teacking than Johnson
All lecture, grade based on 3 tests and 3 essays and that's it
I had him for History and then i had him for eastern humanities this last semester and i will have him again. He is a tuff grader and that may be why i got lower than normal grades in both of his classes.
Awesome teacher! If every teacher was as good as Johnson going to class would be fun. He is young so he knows how boring history can be so he tries to make it as fun as possible. Tests are hard but just study and you'll do fine. Like I said, very very good teacher!!
He is one of the most fun teachers at Northwest. I didn't do well in the class but that's my fault. He is the best history teacher to take.
Mr. Johnson is a really understanding teacher when it comes to having personal emergencies. His class is pretty easy too, you don't really have to go to class, because he sends you his lecture notes right before the test, he doesnt take attendence. But make sure you go to class for the tests.
Johnson ROCKS!
Too busy persuing his own education at KU to give his students the attention they deserve. Won't read your research paper--will just look at the name on the paper and make a guess at how you probably did. Trust me--I received a B.S. in history with a 4.0 GPA--except for the "C" he gave me. And he NEVER did allow me to see my paper grade. NEVER!
Johnson is a really down to earth funny guy. Totally misleading when it comes test time though. I was present for EVERY lecture and wrote down everything and studied and when the test time came? BOMBED. Needs to have more direction like he admits to.
This class rocked. As long as you went to class and studied from the guide that he gave you, the test was cake.
Really helpful if you asked for help on paper. One of my favorite teachers. Lectures are entertaining but test are kinda hard
This class is really fun. Johnson is really friendly and is there for questions if you need clarification. He can be a bit spacy and get off topic or a little confusing, but ask him to explain something and he'll do his best to help. Lots of note taking and no powerpoints so be prepared. Tests aren't too tough, and there's a fun research paper!!
Easily my favorite professor at NW, looked forward to class every day. Just lectures and storytelling. Just take notes over everything he says. I never read a page of his textbooks. And he definitely read and helped me a lot on my research papers for his classes. Absolutely recommended.
Matty J is an awesome teacher. His cynical sarcasm is funny and he engages class discussion in his classes. He's always willing to help if you ask and will answer questions about the test. Also, he'll even have a beer with you at the Pub.
He is has an ODD since of humor. He tries to engage you, but it doesnt work. The test questions are manipulative and deceiving. He says if you fail his class, its job security for him, because you'll have to retake the class. 9 page paper is required. AVOID Johnson, it was a constant headache. 1st test is over 500 pages of material!!
At first he seemed like he would be a good professor. He gave a study guide and the essay questions, but when it came to the test none of the given material was relative to the test questions. I studied and asked for his help and still got a C. He seems like he is helpful, but in the end he really isn't.
Johnson is an great teacher, but is in a way a non traditional teacher. There is alot of in class participation. A few times a student knew more on a subject than he did, and he let them take the floor and teach. Guys tend to like his class more than girls do. If you want to get a good grade more than you want to learn this isn't the class for you.
This teacher has a nice personality, but i would like to warn you, this class is hard! I don't mind history, but it is not a subject on need to be tested on so harshly. He is unclear and rambles on. The tests seem overwhelming and impossible. Nice guy, but I would advise you to stay away.
He is very interactive with his class, but you need to be prepared for his tests. He will inform you what they are over, from this point to this point, but he expects you to take efficient notes. You need to at least skim the book and learn a little background, but he is very helpful in the long run!
Johnson is a very solid college teacher. he lectures the material that he feels is important to do well on his tests. tests are multiple choice and essay, so the tests are not impossible. SI can be your best friend, but he is willing to answer your questions
Very laid back teacher lectures are somewhat interesting never updates grades but if you put forth any effort at all you will at least get a "B"
He is very laid back and a pretty interesting teacher. He is very clear about what is going to be on the tests and the tests are all multiple choice and simple essays. I really enjoyed his class because it was fairly interesting and as long as you show up and pay attention you will pass.
He is a very nice professor and very willing to help. His test were easy and are really based off of the notes that he gives during lectures. He doesnt try to trick you he just words them so that you could think about it. I totally recommend him and he is also not that bad to look at.
Mr. Johnson is hilarious, and you can obviously tell that he loves history. You better show up to class because I missed two classes in a row and was so lost on some of the material; only the SI sessions saved me concerning the stuff I missed. Speaking of which, the SI sessions can be heaven sent. Also, try to not be late. He hates that.
His class is fairly easy, but make sure you study really hard because the only grades in this class are three tests, three quizzes, and one paper.
Mr. Johnson is a fantastic teacher. He really loves history and it shows in his lectures. The only assignments are the tests and quizzes in class. He offers extra credit through out the semester.
I honestly didn't do well in Johnson's American Historical Survey class, but loved him as a teacher so I'm getting my Humanities credit in his Eastern World class. He's a very "old school" type of teacher- no power points, but has an occasional video/picture. His lectures are so intriguing, but you MUST attend class to pass.
Phenomenal professor. Best lecturer I've ever had. Uses no powerpoints or supplemental learning so that is hard for kids who skip and don't focus.
Amazing professor, best lecturer I've ever had.
I loved Johnson! He was a really understanding professor. Didn't use the book for anything other than inquizatives, so it was heavily relied on by lecture. SI was helpful but not necessary. He made history like a story which made it easy to learn.
Fun class. Do your work and you will be fine. He is willing to work with you and wants to help you succeed. But make sure to go to class, most all tests are based off the lecture.
I was very worried about coming into Johnson's class. This feeling reflected on my first quiz when I got a D (good thing quizzes are only 25 points). I studied much harder for the exams & scored in the top 10%. Really not a bad class AT ALL! 1. Go to class. 2. Take good notes & pay attention 3. Study hard & you will be A-OK! He is a very nice guy
I took History since 1877. He is my favorite professor so far. Tests and quizzes are easy as long as you take the time to study. I am not a fan of history but he made the classes enjoyable. He is very passionate about what he is teaching.
Amazing professor, enjoyed coming to class. Makes the class subject interesting and entertaining. The test are hard though, be sure to pay attention and study. Wish I could take another class with him.
Very good teacher, his test come pretty much all from lecture so coming to class is a must.
Johnson is an amazing professor, but his exams are incredibly hard and he doesn't give out too many other points aside from the exams.
Had him for History Since 1877. This class will teach you how to study and how to really listen and take notes. There's plenty of extra credit opportunities to help your grade. Go to the SI! He has a lot of really interesting stories and he's very well traveled, it is lecture heavy but he teaches history in a more of a story way.
I had Johnson for Comparative Religions and I was confused the whole time. However, he is super nice and encourages everyone to visit his office hours if we need help. His lectures are kinda boring so it's easy to doze off. You need to take notes based off what he says not just powerpoints. Just don't be afraid to ask questions and you'll do fine.
Takes FOREVER to grade things which is annoying. He doesn't like technology so can take a while to respond to emails. I personally hate history, so lectures were boring, but he is a cool dude so that helped a little. Takes attendance each day. Only like 4 exams/quizzes and a midterm. Hard for me since I'm not good at history, but still got an A
He is very passionate which makes it easy to learn! He also is an all around genuine person.
Weekly reading quizzes, but the material is very interesting so it's easy reading. If you keep up with the weekly work, and you do the readings, you will do great. He's very fair and tries to make it fun. In person I'm sure this class is even better, but online he does a good job. He is a master at eclass organization and makes that part easy!
Professor Johnson is a very kind and solid choice for a professor. While lectures can sometimes drag on, Johnson has very good humor which can quickly bring someone's attention back to the course. I only wish he would show it more, because when Johnson tries he is truly funny and I believe his course would benefit more from it.
There is a textbook for the class but you only use it for alternate assignments. He is understanding for late assignments. Take notes in class. Even just reading over the notes you take will get you at least a B. He is very funny and gives lots of extra credit. One of my favorite professors ever.
A fun and understanding professor. The textbook is optional, and taking notes in class is key to success. With some effort, even just reviewing your notes can get you a solid grade. Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the lectures.
