I really don't like bio, but Matt is a GREAT teacher and can make you like whatever he is teaching. I would take every class he offered if I could. There is a LOT of material, but he goes about his lecture in such a great way that you can't even be upset. Great class structure. TAKE HIM OVER LISHAK!

He is always willing to help and has study sessions. The lab is really hard and the lab GTAs are boring and not great. Highly recommend Kearley!

Kearley is a genuine teacher and person!! Truly cares about his students. Sometimes his tests can be a little difficult but nothing you can't handle. All the bonus quizzes and group quizzes really boosted my grade! Make sure to listen and add on to the notes for your own understanding since there isn't really a required textbook! Take him!!!!!!

Fantastic professor. Takes the time to learn everyone's name, even in 300 person classes. Teaches from powerpoints but makes them interesting. Keeps class engaged and clarifies concepts very well. One of the best professors I've had at Auburn. Very helpful, very kind, very fair. Attendance is not mandatory since all his test questions come from his lecture notes and he posts those online, but still its a good idea to go and not a hardship. He makes Biology fun.

He is a very nice professor! He cares about students and definitely want them to do good in class. He remembers every 200+students faces and names by the end of the semester! how amazing! Exams are from the lectures, However, don't underestimated them. Take Him!

I had Kearley for both of my biologys and he was really good. He keeps things really interesting. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory but he does give extra credit if you are there for all of the pop quizs (group work and/or hilarious questions with no right or wrong answer). About 4 exams. Highly recomend!

Best professor at Auburn! His class is fun & attendance isn't mandatory, but he randomly gives quizzes/bonus quizzes! You are in groups for those too. Tests (mult. choice) come from lecture & you need to know how to apply the material. He recognizes & learns everyone's names about mid semester. Crazy! I highly recommend him! Easy class.

Literally Awesome. Came to class in a gorilla suit the week of halloween and taught in it. Really knows everyone's names in a class of 250 people. Puts random funny pictures throughout power points to keep everyone interested.TAKE HIM!!

Matt Kearley is by far the best science teacher I have ever had! My bio class was well over 200 people and he knew EVERYONE'S name! We weren't his only class either. You're not just a number to him. You can tell he cares about his students and He will go out of his way to help you out. His class is so much fun! Taking him again in the spring!

My favorite professor. Kearley does a great job teaching the class! All his notes are on powerpoint and if you study your notes and look at pictures in the book you can get an easy B or A. Came out with a B in the class but couldve had an A if Id gone more often for clicker quizzes as well as gone to lab more often... Made high A's on all the tests. Definitely have to study for them but he doesn't trick you. Straightforward. And he's SUPER NICE! He knows everybody's name somehow in a class of over 200...even if you never go!

BEST class I've ever taken! I took both Intro to Biology and Survey of Life and I would take both over again. Notes are very organized and tests come straight from the notes. He makes class so much fun and will do absolutely anything to help you. TAKE HIM!

Mr. Kearley is the absolute best teacher I've ever had! His class is very straightforward. Tests come straight from notes but you do have to study! He is in his office to help people who need it almost all day every day! "if you need help on this stuff, I don't care if you work at the bar and get off at 2am. I will meet you at 2:15 and help."

Kearley only teaches Vert Biodiversity in the summer. That being said, I would take his class every summer if I could. It's a small class, and Kearley truly cares about each and every one of you. The tests aren't multiple choice, but they are straight from his notes (straight from a power point). You have to go to class, but I loved his class!

Kearley is the best! He always shows funny pictures or videos to keep you interested and genuinely wants you to understand and do well in his class. You will need to study because the tests can be a little difficult, but he gives bonus points every now and then so go to class so you can get those!

He's super awesome, really funny and nice and so open to help you any way he can. Classes can be long and boring cause its a lecture but if you show up and can pay attention you should get an A. It can be tempting to skip cause he doesnt take attendance but he frequently gives iclicker quizzes which are just easy participation points.

He made himself very available for outside help, and the material was clear and straightforward. He is a great teacher! He gives a 5 min. break and great lectures with pictures in powerpoint. He makes it so interesting and is a wonderful teacher. Expect quizzes everyday that count for attendance. Reading the book isn't required to pass, but helps. Definitely get him if you can!

Mr. Kearley seriously cares about your understanding of the subject. If you're not a huge Biology person, you will definitely have to study. It is not impossible to get an A in this class, but that means you have to be on top of things way before the test comes around. Above all, Kearley sincerely wants you to learn and get something out of it.

I loved Kearley! He is genuinely a good person and cares about the success of his students. I got a B in the class because I didn't really study but you can study the night before and still be fine. I enjoyed the class because he breaks it up and puts funny things on his slideshows that break the monotony of an hour and a half long class.

His class is great! I got a B both semesters but I also only studied the night before each exam. If I had put in more effort I could of made an A. His tests are pretty much his notes and practice problems. He also does this thing in class where he throws a stuffed animal around and if you catch it you have to answer the next question.

Matt Kearley is awesome. I had him for a Tues/Thurs class and he breaks the long class into two shorter sections with a break in between. His notes are great and his reviews before tests are very helpful. Haven't opened the textbook once and made a high B on all the exams which are comprehensive. Definitely take him!!

I really enjoy Dr. Kearly's lectures, and he makes his class super fun. He gives ample opportunity to better understand his material by reviews and office hours every single day. His test are a little tricky, but he truly wants you to understand the material and not just memorize. Overall, a great teacher.

Kearley is awesome!! Take him if you can! My class has 273 students in it but he knows me and everyone in the class by name. He throws around a stuffed animal during class for random class participation and makes his lectures fun and gives you a break in the middle of class. He's great!

Easily the best professor I've had at Auburn. This guy just gets it. Delivers content exceptionally well and makes sure no one is bored. Ample opportunity for extra credit. Not an easy A but an A is very attainable for any student at Auburn regardless of major.

I really can't say enough great things about Kearley! I came to college terrified of having to take biology because I was terrible at it in highschool, but it ended up being my favorite class and teacher so far at Auburn. Time flies by during class, he explains difficult material incredibly well and truly cares about each individual student.

Mr. Kearley is the best teacher I've had yet. Take him if you can. Tests are purely lecture based, and his lectures are actually fun to attend because he puts interesting photos and videos in between the material. The tests are based directly on the objectives (meaning there aren't any surprises) so they're really fair, but you still need to study.

If you are at all able to, take this class or one of Matt Kearley's other classes. He is the nicest and most fun professor it has ever been my please to have. There is a little bit of work when it comes to studying for a test, but Kearley makes the info so interesting that you will want to learn about it. Doesn't get any better than this class.

This is the second class of Kearley's that I've taken. His lectures are interesting even if you aren't a science person and he's always willing to help! He's super funny too. He's passionate about his subjects and students. I would absolutely take his class again if I needed more science credits. He doesn't use a textbook either!

Mr. Kearley is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and you actually leave class knowing something. TAKE NOTES, all test materials come directly from the notes. GO TO CLASS he offers tons of extra credit and if you are there for 5/6 bonus quizzes you get an extra 5 points added @ end of semester!

You have to study for the tests but he gives you objectives and application questions that you can answer directly from the notes so there are no surprises. Just make sure you go to class. In class clicker quizzes and bonus quizzes can easily bring you up or down a whole letter grade if not more. Wish he taught all my sciences bc he is the best.

Dr. Kearley has been one of my favorite teachers yet. He really loves his students and wants to get to know them and wants them to learn as much as possible. His grades are fair and you get lots of opportunities to get bonus points. Take him!

I absolutely LOVED this class. Mr. Kearley is a caring and fantastic teacher. He went out of his way to learn nearly everyone's name. (And there were 175 of us!) His lectures are funny, & he's always willing to talk you through it over and over and over again until you get it. Just go to the lectures! You won't regret taking this class.

I had Mr. Kearley Fall of 2016, and I enjoyed his class so much! When I did not understand the material, he was always eager to help and talk me through various processes throughout the semester. He genuinely cares about his students and wants everyone to learn and succeed in his class. If I could take him again, I definitely would.

I absolutely hated Biology but loved this class. Mr. Kearly understands that this class is for majors who do not need it so he makes it fun and you actually learn some things that might be helpful later in life. Quite possibly the best professor I've had at Auburn.

Kearley is amazing! I was not dreading taking this class because I absolutely hate science, but Kearley made it bearable. He gives three multiple choice tests. The questions were almost straight from the notes. You do have to show up for class to get iclicker points, but in my opinion, a great class!

By far my favorite professor. He literally knew every single persons name before half of us knew his name. He really cares about his students and wants the to succeed any way possible. I easily could've made at least a B but I bombed the first test and couldn't recover. If you go to class and study for his tests you will definitely succeed.

The most engaging teacher I've had at Auburn. He always keeps the topic your studying interesting and easy to understand. The only issue I had with the class is his teaching style made the material seem easier than it actually was, so it was a little difficult to gauge how hard the tests would be. I had Kearley for 1010 and again for 1020. 1010 was great. I made an A+, the tests were manageable and the material was very interesting. 1020 was a little more difficult. The information was harder for me to grasp and the tests were difficult, but Kearley did a great job of making the material understandable. Great professor, hard course.

Kearley always finds a way to end class on a high note, whether it be through a funny video (still related to the subject at hand) or through a little friendly class competition for one or two bonus points.

Prof Kearley is the best thing that happened to the bio department at AU. He is well-spoken, makes classes entertaining, & genuinely cares about every student (in a lecture of 270+!). Matt is such a great professor, I planned my whole schedule so I could take him again! I am a liberal arts major and he made Biology interesting and easy to understand. He is so nice too, he is always in his office and is always happy to explain things to you. His lectures are note heavy but they are interesting and he adds jokes. Definitely, take!!

I only have heard AMAZING this about him and I have only had him for 2 labs!! The lab books are filled with info, but he doesn't quiz/test on anything too difficult. Easy A and reviews before all tests!! There was a ton of extra credit, which helped if you skip a lab or messed up on a quiz!

His class is fun to attend and his tests are super easy as they are based exactly off of his notes. Make sure you take good notes!!!!! Study them from front to back and you've got an A. If you don't go to class you'll be missing the notes and quizzes. The quizzes are super easy.

Mr. Kearley is the best professor I have had at Auburn so far. He makes lectures super interesting and his powerpoints/notes are in a sturctured format to where they are easy to write down. He cares about his students & will meet any time he can to make sure you know the material. His tests are hard though, you have to be able to apply it all.

Do yourself a favor and take this man's class! He is awesome!

Dr. Kearly cares about his students. He makes it a point to remember everyones names and always makes himself available for questions. He also tries to make his lectures entertaining and interesting .

Kearley was so great. He learned everyone's name (and there were about 200 of us). He is very understanding if you go to him with questions. He will hold test review sessions and I advise you go to them. Also the SI helped a lot. At the end of class, he will usually do an exit "quiz" for extra points, usually along the lines of "How is your day?"

Uses iClicker almost every class that kinda counts as attendance. Does a lot of extra credit and the quizzes in class are super easy and the entire class takes them together on the clickers. Extremely caring professor. Tests are easy if you study, not bad at all.

BEST TEACHER OF ALL TIME. He is so nice and does everything he can to help you succeed in the class. You need to go to class to get the notes but he makes class so fun you'll actually want to go. Professor Kearley is one of the nicest people I've ever had as a teacher. He knew my name in a huge lecture class and I went to office hours twice. His material is straight forward, but it's a lot. Go to class everyday because he does iClicker quizzes and lots of bonus based on attendance. The material isn't terribly hard, but it is no easy A.

This lab was very easy and straight forward. You don't have Mr. Kearley in lab, but instead a GA. The lab isn't hard, you don't have to prepare before class, and you don't have to stress about many assignments. Two grades per week: one a simple, four question quiz at the end of class over the lab and the other is an in class lab assignment.

Kearley is the absolute best teacher you will ever have. He cares about each and every one of his students and learns everyones name. Don't buy the book!

I took Intro to Bio and Survey of Life with him and I loved it!! There were about 200 people in my class and he knew almost everyone by name. Attendance isn't always mandatory, but he gave around 5 quizzes during class using an iClicker that count towards your grade. I got a B, but I didn't go to class sometimes and missed a quiz. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

He doesnt post his lectures online so you have to go to his class to get the notes as well as credit for group quizzes and bonus quizzes, but the class is not dreadful at all. Professor Kearley is the best. He often incorporated many relatable topics into his lectures which helped me retain the material more, and tests were not bad but you should study for them. He gets to know many of his students despite having 300 person lectures and always lets you know he is available for help 24/7. (Taken Spring 2020 pre-covid)

Im naturally bad at biology and I was on the cusp of an A all semester which is truly a testament to professor Kearley. Overall the course was difficult at times but it all had to do with the material not the professor. He did a great job of keeping students interested and really cares. Im taking him again next semester and I highly recommend!!

You can miss class but a big grade portion is the clicker questions in class, so it technically affects your grade. Tests can be difficult but if you put in the studying, it isn't terrible. There's not an actual attendance grade, but he does tophat questions throughout most lectures that you get a grade on so I would say your attendance does impact your grade. Remember to study hard it's a lot of material & test are the bulk of your grade.

In all honesty, you'll never see him. My GTA did a good job, and while the material wasn't necessarily difficult, it was rarely on track with the lecture and that could make things confusing at times. Overall, easy lab credit if you need it!

Professor Kearley makes this class surprisingly enjoyable. With no homework and easy extra credit, all you need to do is attend class, participate, and study moderately. Unstuckstudy AI was a great tool to prep for the tests. Overall, an easy A or B if you put in the effort.

Amazing professor! Some of the material is hard but he explains it so well. He asks questions throughout the class for a grade and the exams are kind of hard. As long as you study they are not bad. Super knowledgeable and has very interesting lectures. He takes time to learn everyone's name and will usually conversate with you during review days and after exams. Exams come directly from the lectures and the objectives posted at the beginning of the year. Take him if you can, he's worth it.

Professor Kearley is seriously the best professor I ever had. He is so understanding and will work with you outside of class whenever needed. If you can, take Kearley for bio over any other professor!

Super easy lab. TA's are great and they make sure we know our stuff. Quiz and lab worksheet every class no lab reports so i recommend attending because it is important for your grade. Usually out early every day.

Awesome and engaging. Class is not difficult and he makes it really fun. Has you form a group for the semester with the people you sit near, but I made some awesome friends that way. Remembers details about students even tho he has like 500 because he's just that kind of guy. Brings donuts to review sessions. Adds points to exams.

He is awesome. Super understanding and offers a bunch of bonus points. Definitely go to class for the Top hat points because that basically makes up your grade. Have to study a good bit for the tests but overall easy class.

This is the best biology class I have ever taken. Professor Kearley knows his crap, and if you are struggling he is available to help all the time in his office. 10/10 the goat.

I had him for Bio1011. Although is GTA taught the class he is super approachable and really cares about his students. Before every lab exam he would have a zoom review and post the recording which was everything you needed to know. Take pics of lab ws before you turn it in to study. Rounded by 89 to an A because I went to office hours. So awesome.

Best teacher at Auburn. Very caring and wants his students to succeed in life. Literally has office hours every day of the week and will accommodate for you if you cannot make it. This class is set up for you to get an A if you want it. Take this class!!!!

Matt Kearley is an angel. He is truly an amazing person and cares so much about his students and their success. He is the best teacher I have ever had. He has hundreds of students and knows everyone by name.

He is awesome - take his class. He knows every student by name (in a class of around 250 w multiple sections - impressive) and encourages stoping by his office hours. Wants you to do well, but also wants you to really understand and learn the content and be able to apply which is cool. Great guy, teaches well, and knows how to break up the content

This dude rocks, the class is basic high school bio pretty much. Auburn give this man a raise!

I loved BIOL 1000 with Kearley he is the best professor I have ever had I RECOMMEND!!! His exams are straight forward but be sure to know everything well, He is also very easy to talk to so go to his office hours if you are struggling because it really helps. TAKE HIM!!!

AMAZING TEACHER!! I loved his class, and you can tell how much he genuinely cares about his students. Material is not too difficult if you show up to class, you will be fine.

Such a great dude in & out of the classroom. Explains Bio super well, especially for those like me who struggle with STEM related subjects. Lecture/powerpoint heavy but not in an exhausting way. Knows mostly everyones names in a 240+ person class. It is super evident that he cares about what he does. Accessible & responds quick. 10/10

Dr. Kearley is such a kind professor and cares a lot for his students. You're graded by 3 exams and a final which is cumulative but he gives you the objectives which are helpful when studying and you can do well if you really pay attention in class and try to understand the material. You also get points in tophat questions in class so GO TO CLASS.

I took Mr.Kearley for both BIO1010 and BIO1000, and he is genuinely one of the best teachers I've ever had. He cares about every single one of his students' individuality. I'm not amazing at science, but he always knew a way to keep class interesting. I'll miss not having him as a professor anymore. Would 100% recommend.

The best ever! He is such an amazing teacher and so caring! I'm not an emotional person, but I teared up walking out of his class for the last time. His tests aren't bad at all - just make sure you know all of the notes. He's actually the best! TAKE HIM!!!

He's an awesome professor and he truly cares. He even makes a point to know your name and that meant a lot to me. I will say you won't do well if you only memorize notes. You have to be able to apply the knowledge/concepts. I think he's the best you could take for bio.

Take his class. Very interactive with everyone. Attendance isn't mandatory but he doesn't post the slides online. If you somewhat pay attention you'll be just fine. (Didn't apply myself oops)

Always shows up to class enthusiastic to teach- just paying attention to his lectures will guarantee an A.
