I freakin LOVED this class! There was so much class discussion, McCormick makes the class interesting and FUN to go to. Most of the grades are weighted on paper assignments and tests, but they are not difficult.
Great Prof! Teaches the material so that it is understandable and helps improve writing skills.
Prof. McCormick is cool if you like philosophy. Course if fun, straight forward.
He's so good at getting you to really think about what you're saying in a logical way. He's probably the best logic teacher I've had at Sac State in a really cool class about epistemology (knowledge).
Prof. McCormick is a great teacher. He lectures well and makes sure you understand what he is teaching. The tests are hard, as are the papers but if you study and go to class, you shouldn't have a hard time. Lots of reading but you walk away and remember what you have learned.
This class is great! If you like math, science, comp sci, cog sci, then this is the phil class for you. You learn about matrix type problems of the mind and stuff. McCormick is the bomb too because he'll hear you out and challenge you without offending you. He's an arrogant atheist **** though. =)
Great instructor who makes you examine your religous beliefs. Made me feel better about being an atheist
The most interesting course I had so far out of my two years. Great instructor.
Ok class; learned we don't know how we know anything. Not sure why this [non] topic interests him; could be more personable in office hours. Nice guy, though.
McCormick is one of the best profs at Sac State. He's not easy, but the challange is good. He's a GREAT lecturer, he's very helpful, funny, and knows his stuff. He's opinionated and can be a smart ass at times, but it's all in good fun and humor.
Difficult but very good if you're into the subject. If you're not I could imagine hating it, because he grades very difficult on papers.
I had McCormick for philosophy of religion. McCormick felt the need to use cuss words to look cool plus move his agenda of secular humanism onto his class.
I haven't finished this class yet, but it is great! Kant is one of (if not the) hardest philosophers to read and understand but McCormick really makes the points clear and makes sure we understand them. Papers are difficult but it challenges you to do better. Tests are hard too but that isn't a bad thing. He is also totally sexy.

Probably the coolest professor on campus...He knows is****....and is funny as hell!
Interesting class. Extremely confusing and challenging.
The professor is very cool and casual BUT if your are not a philosophy major STAY AWAY. This class was so confusing, my hair turned gray..and I'm only 21! This was definatly a challenging class and honestly I didnt learn one thing.
I do agree the coolest Prof. in the school, but very challenging class. It is NOT by any means an easy A or even an easy B. You'll have to try very hard to even pass. The midterm was hard and the final was crazy. If not a Phil major I would recommend another class.
This guy is a compete jerk. His constant swearing to appeal to the kids is unprofessional and characteristic of a small man. Grades hard to make himself feel superior over the students! AVOID!
Absolutely one of the coolest professors on campus. Class is always fun and entertaining, but you still learn lots. Don't leave Sac until you've had a class with McCormick.
McCormick is very knowledgable of his work, BUT to hard for an undergrade class. I do agree that he is somewhat cool but dont take if not a phil major. If you are, by all means take the class and enjoy, if not then stay far far away from this class.
Anyone who thinks this class is hard either doesn't show up to class, hates to work, or both. He explains everything very clearly in class, and lets you practice it. It's basic stuff. All quizzes are on webCT and they're easy if you just use the techniques he teaches. Lowest grade I've gotten is an 88%. Amazing professor. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
walk in God believing, walked out an atheist..nuff said
would not reccomend if you are not a philosophy major. Alot of work for an undergrad class and be prepared to defend your belief in God.
If you enjoy profanity, take this class.... thinks hes all that and hot but needs to focus more on how to teach evreyone in accurate ways than cussing every word out of his mouth. NOT RECOMMENDED> enough said!
Does push some of his own views out into the class but is by no means trying to convert you. Is a fun teacher but material is somewhat challenging. I didn't read the text all semester..just went to class and asked questions. Online quizzes are worth most of the grade. Pay attention and you'll do well.
One of the best profs at Sac State. I only suggest this class for Phil majors though - he's a really tough grader, and Phil papers are different than normal papers. People tend to not like him when they are very religious, because he gives religion and the Bible a thorough trashing.
he is hard but in the long run will make you a better writer. Very helpful feedback on papers.
Professor essentially teaches logic, reason, and hard work have a solid place in Philosophy and writing. High praise on all fronts, socially, etc. All humor , cussing, etc is contextual and works very well with his temperament. I was a social work major and wanted easy street and got a good cerebral workout. Kudos Mc Cormick! Thanks.
Took for Philosophy of Religion. Fantastic class. Excelent instructor, and very helpful. However, very tough (and brutally honest) when grading. I'm taking him again for Atheism.
He is a great teacher. Passionate & explains things in a way that is understandable. Papers are not too hard, we should all be able to write at a college level. He does not cuss that much and his views are known but he is pretty unbaised. FWI all philosophy classes are difficult, it is not just debating your opinion, there is a lot more work to it.
This was one of the best classes I have taken so far at Sac State. He is very insightful yet critical with his viewpoints, which is important for a course like this. This course will definitely help you to become more open-minded. The grading is not easy but its not hard. I would recommend this course for anyone, regardless of major.
This class is confusing as hell. We would spend all class talking about nothing, but that's philosophy. I hated the class and I was really interested in this before I took the class. He made me not care at all. But to be fair, he's very entertaining in class and is very smart when it comes to his material.
He knows his material and is a good lecturer. He is arrogant, but I would be too if I was as cool as him.
Tough grader and he for sure assigns papers on material he has yet to lecture on. I think I got an A and an A- in his classes so it's possible, but not easy. He does do a good job teaching though. Take detailed notes because his lectures are well structured and if you can recall them you'll be set for his midterms/finals.
Not an easy professor and I can see how he would rub some people the wrong way with the profanity and inclusion of atheist ideas. Personally I thought he was a challenging professor who makes you think seriously about your assumptions. I guess if you are very religious or not serious about learning philosophy, it might now be the class for you.
Hard grader on papers. If you need a high grade, work on papers early and discuss them with him prior to submitting; he's very good at that, but just submitting something can be a roll of the friggin dice - fair, but still hard. He knows the stuff in his field so you will definitely walk away with something.
Anyone who thinks this class is hard either doesn't show up to class, hates to work, or both. He explains everything very clearly in class, and lets you practice it. It's basic stuff. All quizzes are on Sac CT. Essential class for learning to form good arguments, which you'll need all through college. Amazing professor.
Definitely a tough grader. Very difficult class to get a good grade in if you just wanna goof off. The papers will make you think so much, you'd feel like you were going crazy. Overall, he's a good professor, but is a very tough grader. Im an overachiever, and I walked away with a B+. Definitely not a class to take 'just for interest' or easy grade
Great professor. Very passionate and knows what hes talking about. Hard to understand the material unless its in laymans terms. I took this class because I was interested in the topic and I wish I didnt. There is so much reading. But the intellectual conversations and thinking are worth it. If you love a challenge, take this class
I would not recommend taking this class unless you have taken a philosophy class before. The professor knows his material very well and he expects you to know it too. He is a very tough grader. I signed up for this class because I was interested in the subject, but after going through the class I can say I will never take a philosophy class again.
This professor tries his best to make the lectures interesting. We had quizzes once a week, that I found pretty difficult. You definitely have to come to class and pay attention or you will not do well.
McCormick is a brilliant teacher. He has a great sense of humor and really makes you think. Lots of reading, all online. I took his phil of religion course. I thought it was a great class. If you've never taken a phil course before, don't take his upper division.
He's really interested in giving you a university education. If you just want to find an easy A, stay away. Actually, you shouldn't take Philosophy.
Awesome class! The material was difficult, but McCormick does his best to make it relate-able and understandable. He's funny and a little crazy, but it makes for an interesting class that I looked forward to going to. Attendance every day, homework or quiz every week.
I graduated from CSUS in 2006. I am now a professor myself and can credit McCormick for teaching me how to write philosophy. The best professor in my undergrad! Not an easy class, but if you really want an education, take him! I took him 3 times while at CSUS and I am a better philosopher for it! Have fun!
Professor is very knowledgeable in his work. When he tries to explain his teaching on a particular section, he would provide examples, which can be great examples that can be very easily understood or can be fustrating ass hell. For example, he explains halfway and stopped in the middle of the explanation and says nevermind.
Professor McCormick is very knowledgeable about the topic, but he is an extremely hard grader and is one of the most intellectually disrespectful people I've ever met. He pokes fun at everyone and even mocks other professors on campus. Totally unprofessional and not relevant to the class at all. If you can get past that, he's a great teacher.
Professor McCormick is a really funny guy and if is extremly intelligent. His Quizes get tough around the middle of the semester and its a must to go to class. Or you won't pass. His examples are interesting and the articles he gives are fun to read. If you want actually learn something, take his class.
This class was super amazing. Mccormick is a great professor and really enjoys his work. The only bummer was that the class only met once a week. Had weekly quizzes and reading responses based off of links to web articles. No textbook for this class. I would highly recommend taking any class with this professor!
Prof. McCormick is amazing & funny. The topics we talked about in class was interesting especially the ones about fallacies people tend to make. Class met once a week, no books needed, quizzes every week online & need a google account. Overall, I loved this class and I want to minor in phil now
Did not love this class. This professor uses a lot of bad language. Although the class was not heavily loaded with work, I found the quizzes to be quite difficult. Maybe this was because we only met once a week.
People who want to say "he used bad words" against the professor need to stay out of the class. If you're going to let "bad words" affect you so much, go back to kindergarten. McCormick is extremely respectful and modest in what he does. Plus he's funny as..."bad word." Bottom line: If you are offended by reality, don't take him.
Professor McCormick is hands down my favorite instructor that I have ever had. Just as a warning, he swears like a sailor, but it's amazing because he doesn't swear for comedic effect (all the time), he swears to get our attention. I thought a Philosophy class would be boring, but he was so great, that I'm taking another class just because of him.
One of the best professors around. Definitely not an easy grader but his lectures will help you be smarter and grow as a human being. Come if you like being challenged. Get ready to work hard. There'll be a lot of reading and writing. No textbooks.
Great teacher but hard grader. Don't take this class if you tend to slack off. Meet once a week and you really shouldn't miss it. All quizzes are online and you need a google doc for responses to articles he posts online. But he really is a great teacher. If you want to get your moneys worth take his class!
This class is hard, but the professor makes the class interesting. Subject is pretty complex if you're not an philosophy major. The online quizzes are difficult and I had to work really hard. Managed to pull a B- which isn't bad, but barely. Met only 1x a week, so if you need help make sure to come to his office hours!
Definitely a hard lower division class. If you're looking for an easy A don't take. No textbooks, lectures meet only once a week, and quizzes/midterm/final online. He was interesting, but the material was hard to understand and even though I studied and went to his office hours didn't really help.
I was in the first classes that he taught online. this class sucked. I emailed and asked for help and got nothing helpful back from him. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
I took this class online because Ive had a summer job and did not have time to be in class. HUGE MISTAKE. The material he teaches shouldn't ever be on an online class. He is the worst professor I have ever taken. Grades way too hard for a GE class & is not helpful. Don't take this class. He has made me hate religion in everyway
I took his summer online course and managed to get an A minus. Sure, he was a hard grader and the material was VERY challenging. But if you are willing to work hard, you should be fine. He has an intriguing style of lecturing. The only thing I hated was how slow he graded stuff. Not recommended for easy A. You have to study VERY HARD.
One of the most challenging classes I have ever taken, but also one of the most interesting and rewarding. McCormick knows his stuff and he's passionate about it. It wasn't an easy class, but I had an awesome experience.
Silver fox! Very opinionated and sexy. In all seriousness a good professor. Knows his stuff and seems very unbiased when speaking to students on their stance on things.
teacher is very cool and funny but this class is just hard. Concepts are hard to understand and the content is boring unless your a philosophy major. You have to write a lot in the class and the grading is very hard. Wouldn't take this class if you need to fill a GE area.
I am so confused by the fact that people are claiming this is a hard class...welcome to college, people! But really, while there is quite a bit of work this is NOT a hard class. 1-2 quizzes and a short paper on simple religious concepts once a week. Interesting lectures! The quiz questions tend to throw me off which is the only downfall, really.
Don't take him 4 this class. Esp if u believe in any kind of higher power. He going to make u feel horrible abut believing in God. Recommended for atheist people, not theist. Lots of reading. 1-2 quizzes every week w/ 2 attempts on it. Different questions each time n u can't go back to correct ur answers. Only 30 mins. 300 video project each week.
Online class that requires A LOT of time.No text book but lots of reading online, boring reading to be exact+Long boring lectures+300 word video projects due weekly. Quest. are worded very oddly which make the 10 question quizzes pretty tough.I wouldn’t take this class again.I don’t recommend it unless you have plenty of time on your hands to study
I would not recommend him to anyone who is a full time student. You need to put all of our time and energy to know material inside and out. Quizzes offer 2 chances but questions change on 2nd attempt. You need patients to take him if you are a believer. He makes some offending remarks towards theist in lecture videos.
Excellent, though challenging, course that required lots of thinking and studying. The purpose of the class was to make students justify and argue their points and it shouldn't have mattered if one was religious or not. The discussion boards were heavily subscribed and made one feel part of a class as opposed to being isolated like other online
Multiple quizzes every week, ridiculous amounts of reading, video lectures to watch, and having to do video projects every week. I would definitely not recommend this class. He is also extremely rude and sarcastic through emails.
I really disliked this class while taking it. There was so much work involved. But I am so glad I took this class because I am now a proud atheist. Studying religion helped me open my eyes to reality.
McCormick is an AWESOME professor. Because it is an Online Course, there are reading quizzes every week. They aren't THAT hard, you can Ctrl-F most of the answers. Honestly, just watch his YouTube lectures, then take the quiz. He allows 2 attempts per quiz, and takes the highest grade. Cumulative Final and Midterm, opportunities for extra credit.
This class was rather difficult for me. The lectures are long but interesting! I suggest taking notes while watching the lectures, it helps wquizzes. Also, some readings were hard to interpret & lots of material to learn for 10 test quest. I hated the video projects! Even though I struggled with the class, I think he's a great professor!
This class was all online. He said at the beginning that it would require more time than a traditional class but that is false! There is once lecture on youtube a week, take notes, and take a quiz on it. Super simple grading. Midterm and final are based off of the quizes. Also no books to buy! All on Sac CT. Easy A!
this is the only class that was truly tough for me this semester. It was a pretty tough class that it made me not want to take online courses anymore. Only assigns two homework assignment but they are quite challenging !!! And a journal is due every week along with a quiz.
This class wasn't all that hard if you paid attention and had a lot of time to dedicate to it. However, being a full time student, being in a sorority and working didn't work extremely well with this class. I did okay I would say. However, throughout the whole semester he never gives feedback on your journals and doesn't grade anything.
If you study all of the lectures and take good notes, you should do fine on the quizzes and tests. Philosophy can be a bit confusing, but the lectures are interesting. There is a journal and quiz every week on the lectures, and 2 tests. Go meet in his office if you need extra help. Great course, but a lot of work.
This class was pretty straightforward. Lectures were very easy to follow and were not confusing at all. Take notes on the lectures and keep them close to you while taking the quizzes. You're allowed to take quizzes twice and that really helped me because I able to see what I did wrong and prevent that second time. Great class overall.
Not a fan of him or PHIL4 online. Smart guy but not helpful.
McCormick is the worst Philosophy professor at Sac State. I will never take him again. He hates students and takes joy in pointing out your ignorance in any way possible. He has no problem with belittling students and has a complete disregard for your feelings in anything. He has no idea how to be a good professor at all, and should not teach.
It was an online class, so there are video lectures and readings to do. But the examples he gives are so simple and basic and do not prepare you for the harder questions on the tests. Like nowhere near the level of difficulty. It's ultimately pretty confusing.
I took his PHIL4 online course, and it was alright. There are quizzes and journal entries due every week, so make sure you take good notes and pay careful attention to the lectures. He uses lots of examples in his videos so that it's easier to understand. The quizzes are the MOST IMPORTANT part of your grade (60%)!! Make sure to do everything!
The class required more attention than what a college student typically expects. With that being said you should be prepared to have weekly quizzes based on lectures/readings. Study those well & you will be fine. Midterm and a final which is not cumulative. Lastly there are 2 hws & journals due Sundays. Sometimes emails back, sometimes doesn't.
Very insightful prof. Would've enjoyed his class more if I took it in person, would've felt more present. Online classes really are hard to keep up with, as he said. I always held off my assignments last minute. Quizzes fairly difficult. Midterm/final were easier. Overall, I got a better grade than I expected. Cool teacher and cool class.
Phil 04 online starts out easy, but at the end it's bad. The whole course is based on watching his lectures, reading the material on the schedule, writing your weekly journal entry, and taking two tests (the best score is taken) each week. At the last half of the semester, questions on tests get more vague and aren't on the videos or the reading.
Don't even take him, his lectures does not match what's on the quizzes. He's been using the same lectures for five years and there is no clarity in them. His journals are literally the worst. Yeah you get two chances on the quizzes, and I learned to take pictures of me quizzes to help me. Cause he makes absolutely no sense!! WORST TEACHER EVER
I highly suggest not taking his class, he has journals due every week and they are lw hard even if you miss two quizzes you still are failing and the two homework assignments are the worst. He's just overall the worst teacher don't take him at all NOT AN EASY A!
The class is straight forward, all you have to do is read the lectures and watch his videos. His journals aren't hard, they follow the order of whatever reading its on. I never did the readings and quizzes until the due date, so I suggest reading and watching his lectures a bit earlier to give yourself time to understand it.
I thought he was a pretty good professor. You get 2 chances for each quiz, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try on the first one. There's journals that are due every sunday night but they're not that bad. If you want to take this class you need to be on top of your game!! It's easy to forget about online classes & this is one you can't slack in
You're better off taking this class in person with a different professor. The quizzes are nothing like the lectures! Even though you get two attempts on the quizzes they are super hard and not the same questions. Not an easy A whatsoever since the quizzes are worth 60%!
I recommend you look for a different professor! Hated this class. Lectures were broad and easy to understand then the quizzes were tough and contained extremely similar answer choices. 10 question quizzes worth 100 points each terrible system. 2 homework assignments were worth a good amount of grade and he graded them harshly.
To not take his class!! Midterm and final are each worth 7.5% of our grade. ONE homework assignment is worth 10% and he grades the homework assignments as if we are all Phil majors. One homework assignment worth more than the final!? Worst grading system ever.
do not take this class not easy i had to work my butt off for a c....
This lass was very easy. There are two attempts for each quiz and he takes the higher score of the two. He does the same thing for the final and midterm. His lectures were very clear and he makes jokes in his lectures. There is a journal entry due every week but its pretty simple. I reccomend this course.
Quizzes and Exams were hard. I would recommend taking his online classes with a friend to help each other out. Many of the same test questions are repeated throughout the semesters tests so keep track of your previous answers. Every online test you get two tries and get to keep the higher score.
Quizzes via clicker every day so read ahead and show up! Weekly journals are interesting and don't take long. McCormick is really funny and interesting. If you pay attention and study a bit you'll be well prepared for exams. The final exam is a lot to read/prep, but you'll have a good study guide and it's interesting. He's kinda sloppy but great!
Awful grading system, only had 2 hw papers and he graded them so harshly. For the 10 question quizzes they were out of 100 points and if you bombed on them there is really no other option for you to pass. Lectures were ridiculous he'd lecture about basic nonsense, then your quizzes would be passages of things you haven't learned. Do not take him.
As I am reading the comments left from other students I am utterly confused. It could be these students are not Philosophy majors or minors, and are taking a Phil course for GE. I have taken Mccormick for two semesters in a row, his knowledge and dedication to his class and its content is refreshing. Phenomenal professor.
I am taking the online class and the examples in the lectures are too simple compared to the actually quiz questions.
His grading system is the worst grading system out there possible. He gives no extra credit. His videos are posted on youtube and are like 4 years old! The examples he has in the videos make it look too easy his quizzes are way more complex and confusing. His grades for the HW assignments are the hardest, NO ONE passes with more then a D grade.
his lectures don't go with the damn quizzes. He is super hard to understand and only take this class if you love phil. DO NOT take as a GE requirement
McCormick is a very organized professor. Lectures and quizzes followed up to date. His class: two hw assignments worth 10 % of grade each. Weekly quizzes worth 60 % of grade. Weekly 300 + words journal entries worth 5 % of grade. Midterm and Final are worth 7.5 % each. Each quiz/exam has two attempts and he takes the highest of the two.
Don't take this class to much for a lower division course. Expects you to be an expert like him. Exams and quizzes are tedious, but he does let you take them twice (most of the time it still doesn't help) only two HW assignments that are 20% of your overall grade, by the way, the HW is impossible. BEWARE AND DON'T TAKE!
By far one of the best professors in the department. Extremely hilarious and clearly is extremely passionate and enjoys teaching. Really cares about his students. Overall if you show up and actually pay attention should have no problem passing the class. Just a regular amount of studying and taking notes and class should be a cake.
Prof. McCormick never sugar coats the truth. He is honest that his class is hard and he is also honest that the work is not easy. I orginially took his honesty for arrogance. But in learning about beliefs and truths; just becuase I believe it doesn't mean its true and vice versa. It's not an easy A but truthfully college courses shouldn't be.
Fully ONLINE. Watch videos and lectures on YouTube channel. Read articles. 2 quizzes per week. Drops lowest of the 2. Journals per week. 2 homework assignments. Grades do not show until the end of the semester. Do not take if not familiar with online formats.
FIND ANOTHER PROF PLEASE SAVE UR GPA. lectures2+24, quizzes, HW, and examsSSxi1k(xix¯)2ni This is an intro to philosophy yet he grades you like you're Aristotle or something. The 2 homework assignments we get(worth more than midterm and final) are graded ridiculously. Got an A on first, F on the 2nd cuz of "unnecessary" (not "wrong") steps
Wet unclear about what has to be done in his course.
The lectures/reading did align with the quizzes and the quizzes were understandable and easy. But the midterm and final did NOT make any sense at all. The format was WAYYY different from all the quizzes. Just avoid this class.
All the assignments rely on the lectures (video + reading). This was an intro class but it was really difficult and a lot. The final and midterm did not match the format as the quizzes. The quizzes, midterms, and final were all time; the only perk was that he takes the higher score out of part 1 and part 2.
I took professor McCormicks philosophy 4 course and he has been one of the worst instructors Ive ever had. He gives horrible instructions on what is required in the course and what you have to do in it, he also doesnt give help until its almost to late. Truthfully, I dont think he even cares about his students succeeding in his course.
Worst teacher Ive ever had
Ok so this class isn't that hard. However, I was supposed to get an A but he didn't post our last couple of grades so I was unable to see what went wrong. His grading is unclear and his lectures are very heavy and hard to listen to at times. If you take good notes then you will do fine.
I have taken this online course during Spring 2020 and my experience was terrible. I completed the journal entries to the best of my ability. The quizzes and exams are very difficult in my opinion. His powerpoint video lectures are not corresponding to the quizzes or exams at all. Asking for clarification through email is also a bust.
Don't have a degree in Philosophy? GOOD LUCK cause he treats the class like you do. Grades the homework so hard, even though I put my best to it. His overall grading and class layout are so useless and confusing. I took this class with some friends and we all did bad, BEWARE FOR YOUR OWN SAKE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I
Definitely a hard course, but very fascinating. You do have to be pretty disciplined to be able to pass his class, he even mentions that its not an easy course. His quizzes are pretty hard, make sure you study good for them so you could pass them. Aside from that, youll enjoy his video lectures, theyre quite interesting.
This class was a complete nightmare and frustration. His class isn't really easy to pass and it does require alot of time and effort, his lectures are old but interesting. I think the thing that frustrated me the most was that he wouldn't answer my emails when I needed his help and not knowing my grade until 2 weeks after the last day was a pain.
He is a cool guy, very passionate about his courses and welcoming in his office hours. I would really like to take him again (I have twice already). Lectures can be super interesting. Definitely can be a challenge at times. He can take a while to grade work/return it back to students (you must calculate your own final grades). Quizzes each day.
Lecture heavy class but you learn how to apply the work you learn to real life. Youll learn a lot about life and how to calculate probabilities.
Class is hard and professor is just ok. Nothing special nothing awful.
Really isnt clear with his course information , rarely responds to emails , dont take this class its not worth it
He offers no Extra Credit opportunities, and all of the quizzes and exams are all trick questions. He doesn't even try to help you better your grade. If you're trying to find a GE class to take do NOT take him.
Terrible. The homework is difficult, the exams are difficult, and the lectures are long and boring. We had two quizzes a week, a journal, and occasional worksheets. He is a tough grader and doesn't give extra credit
I actually enjoyed his class. He was just so rude when I emailed him that it was borderline unprofessional. If you have zero interpersonal skills find a new job. He's great when he is listening to himself talk about himself. When it comes to basic conversations with others he struggles at a dysfunctional level.
Reasonable prof. Fair assignments. All answers are in the readings & lectures. Need help? Dont ask last minute. Rough time? Understand that his course topics revolve around logic. Logic requires meticulousness. You will be graded on that ability. Show effort. Been with tyrannical profs. before & he is FAR from one. Extremely underrated.
Professor McCormick has valuable lessons to teach, his teaching style is inefficient and hard to engage with. Rather than lecturing in class, the class is taught through video lectures each week. He makes inappropriate jokes in the classroom in order to get his point across and it is uncomfortable for everyone.
He is extremely knowledgeable in his field, but that knowledge does not transfer well into teaching. He records all his lectures that we watch in place of class. It makes it easier to understand what he says since he goes so fast. Overall, he presents interesting information and I would take his classes again if I were a philosophy student.
One of the best professors ever. He is straight up and does not shy from controversial topics (PHIL 04 Critical Thinking). The class is pretty difficult but not impossible. You need to be there for class. I wish I had his class more times in the week. 10/10 would take again.
Weekly assignments and weekly videos. You get two attempts per week for every quiz and test. Around 13 quiz and 2 Test(midterm and final). You have to watch the videos every week to get a good grade on the quiz/test. Videos are around 20-60 minutes long. Class was ok as long as you do the work but I wouldn't recommend it.
If you do your best and put in effort, you'll pass. There was lots of work each week but it's manageable and not too boring. Can't speak much for him directly since it was asynchronous but he offered help and didn't seem like a tough grader. He also gives two attempts for tests and quizzes.
He's a funny teacher and he makes it very clear what he expects from the very first day of class. If you don't go to class you will miss the lecture but your able to get the notes online and everything is accessible. The mid-term and final is difficult (coming from someone who studied) so be aware. He is an okay professor and grades tough.
Great professor. Somewhat tough class for sure. There will be plenty of online canvas tests but you always get a second go at it. The scores from those tests can heavily affect your grade. Taking notes and digesting the ideas and concepts will be necessary to do well in this class.
Take a different class or just a different professor to fulfill your A3 requirement. I went on the first day and decided to drop the class as soon as I could. He's just not someone I wanted to learn from or grow with, a bit too unprofessional for me. Always form your own opinion but I believe there are better professors at Sac State.
If you want to take Professor Mccormick, be prepared to read 200 pages per week in addition to 2 hours of lectures! This class is so time consuming and in class, he just rambles without any structure.
He scares off people initially to make this course sound scarier than it is. We met once a week with two weekly readings/quizzes. It sounded scary, but he gives us a second attempt on almost all work, allowing me to pass all quizzes with an A. No textbook, you just use his online site which saves money. The guy's a little controversial, but funny.
This class can be difficult & it may scare you off. As long as you read all the readings & watch the videos + take notes, you will be fine. Don't be afraid of his office hours, this helped me a lot. You will have to take two quizzes per week but he will take the higher score out of the 2. No book required, everything is published on his website.
Class has a tough reputation, upheld by the professor, with controversial humor that may not suit everyone. There are two weekly quizzes, and the better score is counted. Grades on Canvas can be inaccurate, but staying current with readings makes passing manageable. It's not hard to pass if you study, take notes, and be on top of assignments.
The class is hard, there is no way around that fact. He does exaggerate the difficulty in the beginning, but it's still hard. He makes various dirty jokes and uses profanity in class and never shies away from controversial subjects. If that's something you're sensitive to, the class is probably not for you.
I took the class as a requirement and as said by Professor McCormick it is difficult. There is a quiz every week and you have the opportunity to retake it. You watch his lecture videos on your own time take notes and also read the readings on his own website. Also you have to do 300+ word writings every week. The work is heavy but manageable.
There are quiz every week and they are not easy, but you get 2 tries. There are 2 exams, and they are durable if you study properly. Read all of the material, watch videos, and participate in class then you will be able to get a good grade. If you enjoy philosophy, then this class is amazing.
Professor makes it very clear that the course is challenging. If you are struggling with quizzes, he requires you to attend office hours to improve in the upcoming quizzes. Attending class, participating, and practicing makes it easier. Every weeks lecture builds on the past one, just a matter of understanding the previous one.
Assignments have to be emailed to him since he doesn't use canvas for them, although quizzes are on canvas. This class is a lot of self learning, but if you had any questioned he'd encourage you to see him during his office hours. Overall he's pretty chill and can through in a couple of laughable comments.
There are two pairs of quizzes that you need to take every weak, but that is because he takes the score of the higher one to use towards your grade. There is a lot to do, but once you get into the rhythm it gets easier. Go to his lectures because they're helpful to better understand what you will be learning about and participating locks it in.
Professor McCormick's class can get very confusing. The class only meets once a week, and there will be a quiz and/or test every week as a result. Make sure to pay attention to the in-class lectures and watch his online lecture videos and do his readings as well.
Worst professor I've had. Misses class multiple times then crams tests + rushes us in one setting because of HIS issues. Constantly gets off topic in his lectures, changes the course schedule confusing everyone, only showed us our grade twice in the whole semester when 60% of the class is failing, no extra credit options. AVOID THIS BUM. FIRE HIM!!
RUN. granted i didn't pay attention at all during lecture but literally just find a different prof IM BEGGING you.
Took this class for fun since I enjoy phil but regretted it. Very unorganized. Content is enjoyable and makes sense however tests were full of trick questions not in the lessons. He'll purposely try to confuse you to "test" your knowledge. No homework but there is weekly quizzes. Your grade is entirely dependent on test and quiz scores.
overall 10/10
This professor does not use canvas assigns practice quizzes that lock one day after a lecture. He gets off topic and political in his lectures like showing a study that tries to prove systemic racism isn't real, praises Charlie Kirk, and creates a platform for a hateful comments. Its a ton of independent study for a class that's in person.
