Prof. Matt is a really good professor! I was a little skeptical taking his class since I did not see ratings for him. However, his lectures are really interesting, & he is super nice! He is always willing to help until you get the material! You must read book (not boring tho) and his lectures, not hard exams tho. He even gives hints during exam

The lectures are awesome. He starts by getting us to ask questions about social interactions and then shows us how researchers find answers to those questions. The tests are basically all applications of the ideas from lecture (and some from the book, but mostly the lecture), and can be tough. He's also friendly and available for meetings.

He's amazing! One of the better psychology professors at UIC.

Matt really know's his stuff. Related materials very well. Tests are wordy so you have to know the concepts inside & out. Don't buy the book, it's not worth it!!! Use the library reserve book or share with someone else. Would definitely take him again.

Participation matters because of the theories within this class are similar in one aspect or another and by participating in class, Dr. Motyl is great at providing clarification between them and giving you a way to remember those differences. He doesn't take himself too seriously(funny), but he takes the content and your education very seriously!

Great Professor. He is new to UIC and it was his first year teaching a course, yet he did a great job with the class material. Easy A if you go to class and do practice quizzes in the book.

Professor Motyl is probably the best psych professor i've ever had at UIC. He wasn't too hard but he does make you work. You definitely learn however. iClicker points. 2 assignments. 4 tests and an optional 5th cumulative final. Overall great professor. Really wants students to succeed and helps you succeed probably more than any other professor.

We had iclicker questions almost every class which were easy but make sure you attend. You don't necessarily have to read the book. Can easily get a B or higher by simply attending class.

This professor is awesome, and if you get the chance to take his class definitely do it. The material is interesting, and he likes to tell jokes which 45 times are actually funny. The tests are fair, and as long as you show up you should be fine. It doesn't hurt to read the book though. Over all it was a fun semester.

Professor Motyl had very interesting lectures and always explained the material great. His exams are fair if you follow his study guides, book tests, and lecture notes. He gave extra credit and had 2 easy assignments. I clicker for every lecture but that is easy points there just go to class! He is funny and sometimes cheesy but overall very nice!

I absolutely loved this class because of him. His lectures are always interesting, and he keeps you engaged. The tests were easy, but you have to prepare well for them. Definitely get the book because the sample questions in the back help a lot. He's always willing to make an appointment with you if you need help. Overall, my favorite professor.

At first, I was not looking forward in taking this course, but I'm glad that I did. Dr. Motyl is a great professor and one of the BEST psych professor's at UIC. He knew his material well and explained it in a way that it was easier for all the students to understand it. He definitely makes you work for your grade, but it's worth it.

I really enjoyed Professor Motyl. The powerpoints cover more than what is in the textbook but you are required to understand both. Motyl's course was challenging and I appreciate that because I know I truly understood the material rather than getting an 'easy A'. I hope to take more courses by him - I definitely recommend Social Psych!

Prof Motyl is the best Prof all around I have ever taken! He always walks in with a big smile, and is very welcoming. His class is interesting and he also uses visuals as well as short clips to further explain topics. He cracks jokes, and on some occasions brings candy before an exam. You defiantly learn valuable material. You should def take this!

Dr. Motyl is an amazing professor! His lectures are very enjoyable and extremely informative! Make sure to go to class, iClickers are daily, and if you want to do well on the exams, it's best you stick around for lectures because he covers a lot of material during class. Overall, great class!

Lectures are easy to follow. You must attend his class because of iclicker attendance and you need to fill in the blanks to the power points that he puts on blackboard. If you want to learn about social psychology, you will. If you dont, you still will take something out of the class. There are 4 exams, 1 optional final, and 2 homework assignments.

PSCH 312. Really fun professor. There is I-Clicker so attendance is essential. Exams are tricky, but if you pay attention in class and read the textbook, you will pass. Not an easy A.

Professor Matt Motyl is great. It is an easy interesting class. Show up for iClicker, and study the PowerPoints, you will get an easy B low A. Barely opened the book, but it is great to read the summary and practice exam questions of each chapter. These exam questions in the book tend to be on the exam. You should take this class!!!

This professor was great. Honestly with this class, if you attend each class, pay attention, take good notes and read the book, you will do well. The exams are non-cumulative, unless you take the last one. Personally he always kept my attention and made me want to learn more. I would definitely recommend having this guy as a professor.

The professor is the type to get to know you by name (if you give him a reason to). The lectures give a fun, fresh take on learning new material, including references the college generation would understand. I would recommend reading the book and attending class always. But overall an easy and fun class to break up the less exciting classes with.

I absolutely Love Dr Motyl!. He is the best professor I have had for psychology. I never rate any professors, but I felt like he is such an amazing professor and thought I would give him some credit for it. His lectures are straightforward. You go to class, study the lectures, look over the study guides he gave you and you will pass. He is funny!

Iclicker, there are 5 exams (final is optional because he drops the lowest grade), and two quick homework assignments. liked taking class with Matt Motyl because he's funny (cute too)& he shows helpful & fun videos to help understand the material. He words his exam questions a little weirdhard so once you get the hang of it, you should be fine.

He's one of the best professors I've had at UIC. It honestly was one of the only classes I actually looked forward in attending. i-Clicker questions are attendance based. 2 HW assignments, 4 tests and 1 cumulative optional final. The class is not easy but if you read and attend you are set. This is the first class in 6 semester where i feel i can apply some of the concepts to better my own life, to be happier, to be more successful. I recommend taking this class.

He's really nice and funny and totally helps you out during exams . His exams aren't based off of memorization, you actually have to understand the concepts but everything is so interesting it'll just stick in your bain. And he's cute

Social psych is interesting in itself, but Prof. Motyl makes it 10x more fun! He's creative, hysterical, all smiles, and good eye candy. There's an iclicker everyday, but I assure you that it's so worth going to class! Many eye-catching research studies incorporated. Tests more about applying concepts. One of the best Psych professors at UIC :)

Professor Motyl is a really entertaining lecturer. He shows up to class on time and is always ready to present. His tests are fair and he stays on schedule at all times. Dr. Motyl also provides study guides to help prepare for exams. Homework assignments are also assigned and graded in a timely manner. Need to attend class for participation credit.

Awesome professor! 4 exams and then a 5th optional exam. Dont let that scare you because the tests are very fair. You do need the book because the exam has some questions, but each test is over like 3 chapters so its not that much to read if you stay organized. The assignments are fun and intellectually stimulating instead of just busy work.

Professor Motyl is great. His class did require an iclicker for attendance, but it was interesting to go to class. The tests were hard for me personally, but if you really dig deep and come up with a lot of examples for your self you'll do good. 5 exams but lowest grade dropped. Great class to take with a great professor. Definitely recommend!

I would take his class again. Professor Motyl is extremely fun, he makes the class enjoyable, the tests are directly based off the powerpoints so they are fair, optional final to replace your lowest exam, and very passionate about the topic. If you attend class and review the powerpoints, you will earn a good grade.

I just can't say enough about Matt. He is an amazing professor. He is funny, energetic, interesting, caring, and very intelligent. All of this translates into an amazing class experience- fantastic lectures! He also makes you feel supported and encouraged in being successful, and cares a lot about spreading happiness. Very inspirational.

Gave very clear lectures through examples provided to students regarding each weekly topic of discussion, and was continuously consistent with ensuring that examples played a huge role in the topics of discussion, so that students can learn the material better. There are 5 exams and 2 assignments. If you read the book the exams are not hard. The questions are directly related to what we learn in class and the professor is really helpful! Easy to talk to and gives clear advice.

He is such a great professor! Tests are right off the slides from lecture (which are so creative with funny images and videos). He gives feedback after exams for the entire class and truly cares about his students. The only downside is that he leaves blank spaces in his lectures so you have to go to class to get the missing info. Great class!

You do not need the buy the book. Attend class, fill in the blanks in his lectures, and click in for iclicker points. Both he and his TAs are very helpful so talk to them if you're struggling! My suggestion on studying is categorizing the lectures. Break it down and know what concepts fall under what theories, and etc.

Matt is a really great professor who is extremely enthusiastic about Social Psych and it shows! He is always working to make the class better and likes to draw in pop culture and humorous things to explain the material. It is a pretty cool subject and he is a pretty cool guy. You should take this class!!

He's a great professor. I personally struggled with the exams. But that's because I am an awful test taker. He posts a study guide for us on Black board. There's four exams (he drops 1), two assignments, 50 pts from iClicker attendance. He always make lectures engaging, and uses examples that students can remember. Overall, he's a great professor!

Professor Motyl is great. His exams may be tricky at times, but the extra credit he offers makes up for it. Go to class and get all the easy iclicker points and do the homework assignments and you will get a good grade. It is not just about memorization but about applying the concepts we learned into real life scenarios. It helps to read the book.

It's a really interesting class and he's a great professor. There's 5 exams and one is dropped, one group project, and one homework assignment. There are iClicker questions every lecture, so you have to go to class but they are worth going to. The lectures are interesting and he provides really interesting examples. I definitely suggest this class.

Great class! he's very clear and prepared with his lectures and funny (in a cheesy way) really enjoyed how he teaches. We had 4 exams which incorporates both lecture and some info. from the book; we also had two assignment which are not bad at all (very do-able). Overall I would take another course with Professor Motyl& also our TA Lara was awesome

I-clickers every class and lecture isn't put up online so you have to come to class. Makes lectures fun by relating to the class as a whole.

He makes his lectures very interesting and funny. But his lectures always take the full 75 minutes when they could be 50 minutes long. I thought his multiple choice exams were harder in comparison to Behavioral PSCH and Intro to Research Methods. He offers a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Whatever he emphasizes will be on the exams!

Great class, but grading on participation was the worst. If you're a shy person like myself, know you have to talk out loud to get points :(

One of the BEST psychology Professors I have had! His lectures were very interesting. Exams were at a moderate level of difficulty. Know how to apply all the material on his PowerPoints to real life situations and you will do good on the exams! I highly recommend this class!!

Gives amazing lectures and makes the class interesting, tests are VERY difficult. Wording of questions is ambiguous and even when you think you understand a concept, the confusing wording of a test question will trip you up. Great teacher, just make sure to ask questions when taking the test to clarify meanings.

He is a great professor who teaches really well. Just make sure to show up to classes to get the participation points and really listen to him. Otherwise exams are mostly from the powerpoint. I didn't read the book at all because he teaches really well on what is on exams.

Mr. Motyl is good professor. He's funny and lectures are all on BB which you have to fill out in class or you won't know the answers. Don't really need the book unless you want to buy it. Just study all slides and pay attention in class and you'll be good.

Dr. Motyl really brings the material to life. I wasn't especially interested in the material prior to taking the class and now I love it, and hope to take related courses and do research. He is a really nice dude, too. Always available to students and tries to help students succeed.

Motyl was a very engaging and open professor! His first test was super hard, but rest of the exams were easy (need the book tho). Also 2 video projects that were pretty easy to do. Iclickers were used as participation. He's also really laid-back about how you can address him. Literally can just send an email saying "hey matt!" And he wouldn't mind

He's super enthusiastic and friendly. He's probably the only professor who actually cared about his students in all of the classes I've taken. He always responds to emails and is always happy to talk. And, the jokes... ha. He's really funny... The humor and energy make going to class more engaging than usual.

Professor Matt is great! He really cares and is super flexible about meeting. I couldn't attend normal office hours, but was able to set up appointments whenever I needed to. His lectures are really great; it's clear he actually likes teaching and knows his stuff.
