He is a wonderful instructor. He knows his subject and makes it fun. He wants everyone to do their best.

He is a good math teacher and all in all he likes his cats.
He is a very laid back teacher, and he makes math fun! He really cares how his students do in class, and his lectures are really organized and helpful for the tests. I really enjoyed this class!
Matt - How did you get all of your relatives to comment on here?
I agree with previous comment...Not a great teacher....and whoever said he was hot..well..that must have been a family member too.
This teacher kicked me out of his class after my cell phone went off. He also kicked out two students for talking in class. Don't take him.
Really good math teacher. Has a good grasp of the subject. The worst thing about him is that he sets too many rules and regulations as if we are in an army school. Too many do and don'ts......... He is only best at teaching and is very helpful otherwise I didn't really like him that much personally.
not my favorite at all.
He is a pretty good teacher. He goes out of his way to help and will meet with you just about anytime. I, however, found the class really hard and failed the first time but if you do the suggested homework and ask questions you will be fine. Hes really strict and seems unapproachable but he really isnt.
I took this class online. He was very strict...maybe a little too strict. The only thing I saw good about him was that he is always willing to help. Three words for ya DON'T DO IT! I definately would not reccomend this teacher.
Very strict, although I want to punch people who leave their phones on in class or roll in 25 minutes late, so I agree with him. I didn't like him personally AT ALL, but he is a good teacher. And an insufferable Cubs fan.
Don't take this guy if you can help it. He will set you up for failure. I dropped right away and moved to an other class (same class, different teacher). Smartest thing I did that semester...
Matt is an Excellent Teacher. If you have to take Stats, take it with Matt. Really, I know you hear alot of nasty things, but honestly, I was so scared to take this class and came out with an A. You have to go to class and do the homework, but he is always willing to help you, all you have to do is ask. He is a great teacher, hands down!!!! TAKE HI
Matt is a great teacher. Now just because he's a great teacher doesn't mean that the material is easy. He makes sure that you understand the material and is always around to help. I emailed him once at 11 at night and got a response 15 mins later. If you want to LEARN STATS, TAKE MATT. Its not going to be a breeze but its totally worth it.
PROS: Very helpful, test/quiz problems are straight from the homework, avail outside of class for help. CONS: Homework is "suggested" and not turned in for credit, miss a day-miss alot so attendance is important. Very good teacher despite previous reviews. Highly recommend!
I took him online. Meanest teacher I have ever had so far. Was always telling me I was irresponsible in emails and that I needed to finish homework on time - when I was getting them done before the deadline dates. It made no sense. I will switch colleges before having to take him as a teacher again.
Instructor is worthless.
Overall I appreciate this professors straight forward style. He places the responsibility ball where it should be - square in the student's court. Quizzes and Exams are taken from suggested homework. Listen closely this concise, somewhat monotone prof. leaves a trail of breadcrumbs that will lead straight to an A.
Very odd
He is a pretty straight forward with his teaching, his class policy sucks big time! I had a B avarage untill 3 weeks before the final! I started missing classes at the end because my daughter got PNUEMONIA and I couldn't take her to daycare. Because he has a strick "No Make-up" rule I was unable to make up the exams that I missed and I faied.
Mr. Moe is the best professor I have ever had. Everyone should take him for everything. He really wants his classes to be full, and he doesn't mind if you text in class. Mr. Moe, watcha doin', Mr. Moe, where ya goin', Mr. Moe, here I am!
He was an awlful teacher i would be at the library for hours studying for his quizzes and did horrible on them. If you have one single zero on a decimal at the end he will mark the whole problem wrong. Hes crazy about rounding rules and if u dont get them, ull fail promise!
The instructor is worthless. He barely speaks english, makes you read the section before class, and has a beef against cell phones. Don't take him, you will fail!
He is relatively useless. If you make a minor mistake he marks most of the problem wrong regardless of whether or not your arithmetic was correct. He is incredibly unfriendly during office hours. He also seems to hate math so much that all he could think of doing was ruining it for you.
10 minutes for quizzes!!! No points for homework, but tons of it!! He picks the hardest questions ever for the exams and quizzes. You have to memorize the formulas. Don't take this professor.
I took this class over the summer and although he was kind of a hard grader, it ended up being ok as long as I went to class. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. all of the material builds on top of itself so it is important to make sure you understand the material otherwise you will be lost. HE IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL THOUGH! available any time!
The class was difficult for me personally, but Matt goes out of his way to be available for any questions. You HAVE TO BE IN CLASS though to get the proper instruction or you will get behind. Overall one of the best instructors Kish has to offer. He answers ALL questions. You just have to ask!And DO the suggested homework! It will help tremendously!
Mr. Read is very available for help. He is also very clear about what is expected for this course. As long as you listen to what he expects you to do, you will do well in this class. When reading the other opinions of Mr. Read's class, I think those students did not follow the instructions in class or the syllabus. Mr. Read is very straight-forward
If you want to learn math, learn it from him. He's very clear about his expectations. His lectures are very easy to understand. He expects adults, so if you don't do homework just because you don't have to, you might not pass. Very good instructor!
I was scared about STATS, but Matt made the class fun. He explained everthing needed to pass. All you have to do is pay attentionm take notes, attend class & STUDY! those of you that gave poor ratings obviously did not do those things. He is a grat teacher & have recommended him to other students.
Above all else Matt is readily available to help if you have any questions. He explains things thoroughly and wants you to understand and do well in his class. He has a sense of humor but expects his students to act like adults. He is definitely one of the top teachers at Kish.
Attendance is always recommended. Matt Read is always trying to make himself available for questions both in/out of office/class hours. While HW is not mandatory nor graded, the questions are on quizzes and exams. Also, make sure to study for quizzes because you are only given 10/15 minutes. Matt Read is a good teacher.
Matt is an amazing teacher. He is very organized and easy to follow. He suggests you do your homework(he does not collect it). I learned that if you don't do your homework, you will struggle. He uses a lot of homework questions for tests and quizzes. He is readily available to help. I would definitely recommend anyone to take his classes.
Math is not my subject, so I was very pleased to have a professor who was so willing to help me with the material. He is almost always available to answer questions and go over homework with you. The quizzes and exams use problems pulled right out of the textbook. Do not miss any classes or you will have a lot of ground to cover!!!
230 231 The guy knows what he's doing. You gotta go to class and you have to learn. He's not gonna give you the answers. He makes you work for your grade. It's college guys, not grade school. These other reviews sound like people who don't want to work for their grades. Go to class, be respectful, work hard, you'll get the grade you worked for.
Stats is hard but TAKE IT WITH HIM...He comes off scary and is very strict, but he is nice guy. Don't be lazy cause he is very helpful. My #1 advice is to DO YOUR HOMEWORK. They ARE the SAME questions on the quizzes and exams. If you do this you WILL pass. I went into the final with a A and passed with a A. Once again, strict but DO THE HOMEWORK.
Matt is an excellent instructor, he has some odd jokes and is a bit strict, but he is very clear with the material. Attendance and HW are not required, but YOU MUST go to class & do the homework in order to pass, he takes hw ?'s and puts them on the test. He is almost always available for questions with tons of office hours.
Literally no words for what an awful teacher he is. Failed his class and got a B when I took it again with another teacher. Kish would do better by getting rid of him.
A very particular instructor, but he lays that out in the first class. Stops several times during examples to make sure you don't have questions. Uses the entire time to lecture - and that is a good thing. Tons of office hours. One of the best instructors at Kish.
Good instructor. I felt he was a little dependent on the use of a calculator when it came to students taking an exam. Other than that he explained everything very well and was always willing to help.
Good instructor. He is good at explaining and stops every so often to see if students have questions. Kind of came off a little rude when I asked him for help after class so I never went to any of his office hours, but he is very available for those who need help. This class was really easy for me. Do & understand the homework and you will pass
I'm very glad I took this class with Read. I was a little nervous for this being my first time taking any calc course. He will annoy you to go in for help...so therefore there really is no reason to not pass his class. He wants to see everyone succeed!!
awesome teacher!!!! did not pass his class but def looking forward to taking it again.
Excellent instructor. He doesn't grade the suggested homework, but this is college not high school. Work on the homework so you are prepared for the quizzes and tests! He is willing to meet you almost anytime and any place if you can't make it to his office hours. I see no reason to not be able to pass this class unless you're just being lazy.
he only grades on tests and quizzes, so if your not a great test taker like myself do not take his class! he makes himself more than available for help but i still find everythig he teaches confusing. hes a nice guy, but tries too hard with jokes and odd comments and what not.
I would not recommend this teacher. Homework was online which made it difficult. He took a week off class and had a sub who had no idea what they were doing, then had us take a test the day he got back. More than half my class dropped the class by finals
Overall didn't enjoy the class. I'm not in love with math, but I've also had great math teachers. He isn't one of them. His jokes about his wife (amongst other things) are not too funny & sometimes people would force laughter. I personally didn't like his attitude but I know others that didn't mind it. Teaching-wise, was right in the middle for me.
Matt... hmm. I cant tell if he really likes his job, he says he does, but is always mono-toned and poorly dressed and always seems to be dragging himself into class. He is very intelligent and knows his stuff but this class was too dang hard for 098
I am horrible at math, but Matt explains everything so clear, it made this class easier for me. Homework is not required to do, but highly recommend doing it, he takes questions from homework and uses them for tests and quizzes. DO NOT slack in the course.
Matt was the easiest professor I have had yet. He is very clear with what he wants- do your (optional) homework and the tests are a breeze. If you are ever confused, just go in and ask for help, he is extremely willing to help. But actually, just do the homework (and pay attention to what you're doing) and review class notes before exams. Easy!
He didn't suck!
He is a good teacher but extremely boring and monotone. He sounds like he is reading from a manual when he is teaching. He takes off points on quizzes and exams but doesn't explain why. All grades come from quizzes and test and there is no points for homework and barely any for participation. Matt grades extremely hard and its almost a bit unfair.
Matt will tell you to do your homework and please do IT! The homework questions are on the test and quizzes. He is VERY picky with labels and explanations on test and quizzes. If you took precalc or calc and maybe even trig in high school this class will be very easy for you. If you do the homework and look over notes for the tests you'll get an A.
DO NO I REPEAT DO NOT MISS THIS CLASS FOR ANYTHING- if you do, be prepared to be super lost the next day in class. I recommend you find a friend in the class that understands the material incase you miss class so they can explain what you missed. No, he doesn't grade homework, but the tests and quizzes are literally the homework questions.
Easily the most condescending, unhelpful teacher I've ever had in college. Treats you like you're 13.
I agree w the last review. He really is the most condescending college professor I've ever had. He goes on & on about how available he is for questions, etc., but then belittles you in class by prefacing all answers with, "well, if you read the chapter..." "well, if you did the homework..." It's possible to do these things & still have questions.
Matt Read is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He gives lots of opportunities to ask questions during class and is available through office hours and email. Although the homework is not mandatory, I highly recommend doing it since the problems are very similar to those on the tests. He's very approachable.
Really poor professor. Say's he's always available, but doesn't like to answer your question. If you ask something, he thinks you didn't read, didn't do the homework, and just belittles you like others have said. Acts like he's nice in class but its a facade. Quizzes and tests are hard. Rushes thru examples. Poor Professor, must avoid
I thought he was a pretty decent teacher. As long as you show up to his class and do the homework it should be pretty easy. I took his class over the summer so I wasn't too attentive but I did my homework and got a B in the class. I hardly studied for the tests and quizzes and still did good on them from doing the homework.
Matt Read is a great teacher. His lectures are pretty clear if you go to class, read the book, and the print-outs. I love his jokes and that he's also widely available both in and outside of class. Some say that he's a hard teacher, but he's not. This is college people! You have to manage yourselves. He can't do it for you while holding your hand.
He is very helpul! Teaches very well! And he knows what he is talking about. Everybody who takes one of his classes should pay attention to his advices about the class, because they truly help.
I have taken both Introductory Statistics and Business Calculus with Matt. He is, without a doubt, one of the best teachers I've had. He may be a bit quirky at times, but I feel he is an engaging, passionate, and humorous teacher. He is extremely available on and off campus. Show up, participate, do the suggested homework, and study!
Matt is a great professor, he really wants everyone to succeed. Make sure you write every detail down during lecture or you will not understand fully when reworking the problems at home. Focus on the problems that are done during lecture as there are always similar ones on the exams. He tells you exactly what to know its just up to you to learn it.
He does not really explain a lot in class. You have a quiz pretty much every week. And notes do not match criteria.
He is a really hard teacher who's grading system is very rigid. He does not give out extra credit, and there is no make-up for tests or quizzes. Even though homework is required to and essential to pass the class, it does not count towards your overall grade. He is a nice and easily accessible-out-of-class teacher.
Great Teacher, dont skip class or else you wont pass the class. Also he has a no Make Up for Quizzes or Exams. I took this course in summer, it was difficult but manageable if you put in the work. He is very hilarious
Matt Read is the fastest grader I've ever had and I am so appreciative of it. He is also always on top of responding to emails. If I email him a question about the homework, he responds with a clear answer that helps me finish the work within the hour. He's a bit quirky, but you learn to love it.
He's a great teacher. He grades fast and he is really helpful. If you have a question ask, in fact he spends quite a bit of time asking for questions. He is available pretty much at all times through e-mail. He tries to reply within the hour. He is clear on his exceptions and follows the syllabus.
I have taken 2 different courses with Matt, College Algebra and Intro to Stats. Same structure for both. There is quizzes or exams each week, but if you understand the classroom examples in the notes you'll do excellent! He always grades the same day, which has its pros and cons. There is limited feedback, but is willing to meet with you to discuss
Such a bad professor. He has many mistakes on his classroom examples, so when you go home and want to do your homework, you might get it wrong because his classroom examples have mistakes. Acts like he is nice and cares about you ,but don't let that fool you. I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT TO TAKE HIM AT ALL!!!
Worst professor ever. He talks about his wife more than teaching the subject. He expects you to teach yourself the problems before into coming in the class. He should be the one teaching it to us, isn't that what we paid for.
He tries to be helpful, but almost every single point comes from an in-class quiz or exam. Lowest scores are dropped, but there's no way to make up for lost points after the quiz. Hopefully has changed. If you're a good test taker you'll be fine, but a lot of people don't learn like that and that's not how stats are used in the real world.
I wouldn't take him if you're a bad test taker. Has an odd way of doing tests by timing them based on his speed. He expects you to memorize all formulas. The homework counts for very little of the points and very little of the repetitive homework problems go on the test. While the ones that appear the least are on tests.
Matt is one of those professors that will bend over backwards for you if you are willing to first put in the hard work. Matt is fair and will sit side by side with you and work out problems until you understand them. He is never condescending when addressing you and VERY much so willing to go the extra mile AS LONG AS YOU DO TOO.
Matt Read is just one of those instructors who think that it's all about being strict and following specific standards that he calls his "rules". He will never go out of the syllabus just to be able to provide you with a little help. He Doesn't offer any extra credit. He Doesn't care what is going on you just get to deal with whatever he thinks.
He does not care what your excuse is, you have to show up to pass. You cannot make anything up.
This professor is awful he expects you to do all the work for him and marks points off due to silly wording mistakes, he always claims that he is open for a discussion if you disagree with his grading but he shuts you down right away. Doesnt care what your point may be and directs you straight to the notes or syllabus. Do not take him.
You will not be taught in this class. You are basically expected to go to class where he goes over the assignments that are due. Then you watch his prerecorded lectures which only show you part of what you need to do to be successful. All and all he isnt a terrible teacher, but the class is not designed for him to be a teacher just collect a check
Easily takes the throne of the worst professor that I've had in my college career. I even emailed him a few questions, and although he is prompt with his replies, he doesn't explain ANYTHING. So, if you plan on taking an online course with him, prepare to learn everything ON YOUR OWN. Doesn't even provide video lectures--just PDF's.
I think most of the other posts have nailed this guy but I would just want to give another point here. If taking his stats class the only people I saw passing that semester were the people that did not work and took minimum class load to be full time. My class started with 35 and we finished with 6. We were the good class out of three
I took this class all online with recorded lectures. The system used was Cengage and it was harder in my opinion because if you miss any small part, the entire question is wrong. When you are in person you have the opportunity to have half credit for questions. He was always available, however, and helped me within an hour or less during the day.
Matt is the best professor I have ever had. I had read some bad reviews, but if you struggle with math, he's great at explaining things at a level you can understand. He does dig in his crack occasionally during class, but otherwise very focused.
MAT 150 and MAT 208. He is available outside class throughout the semester if you need help. I understand the bad review because the PDF lectures are insufficient to understand the material. However, if you understand the homework and put effort, you won't have trouble passing his classes. Try to practice more examples before attempting the tests.
By far the WORST professor I've ever had. Triggered anxiety by personally emailing every single day about the class. Some days THREE times! It felt like he was watching me complete work by emailing within 10 mins of opening an assignment whether at 5am or 11pm after hours! What professor emails students personally 3x a day? Never again.
I was scared to take his course when I read his ratings on this website but honestly he was the complete opposite. He was really understanding when it came to late work. He does email you a lot through out the week but he does it to make sure you are understanding his course and to assure you that he is available if you need help.
I had a rough start the first few weeks where I actually almost decided to drop. I had expressed this to professor Read and he offered to set up a video call so we could go over everything I didn't quite understand. Above that he really gave me some really good advice which inspired me to push myself a little harder and now I've passed every test.
Tbh I took this class because it was required. I did not wanna take this class, but I did and I passed so I got the credit but I would not take it again and not with this professor. He was a nice guy overall but the emailing me every single week sometimes multiple times a day was excessive.
He emails often (maybe a bit too much), but he is accessible. He was kind and helpful. However, his final is what I really disliked. There was no midterm so the final covered the entire semester and he provided no extra review materials. It was also worth 40% of my total grade, which is more than I've ever seen a final worth.
hybrid class, met once a week. I was at every in person class sometimes I was the only person in class and I even asked questions. However, he accused me of cheating 3 times. Each time I got a 0 as a grade. I did not cheat, I felt it was important to know the math because it is required for my bachelors. I told him this and he did not care
He's very good! He was super helpful and was always sure to check in to see if you needed help. He was always very respectful when it came to recordings for tests, and he emphasized internet safety when it came to the recording software that we were forced to add to our laptops. His jokes are so bad that they're good, and he's relatable!
He needs to be FIRED. Rung me up for cheating due to honor lock . Also harassed me by sending 3 emails a day
You can tell he cares a lot about helping and wanting to pass his students. I took a generally easy class, but he made it 100x better. He emails back within 24 hours and really tries to help.
Very easy to reach by email, and responds very fast. Also accepts late work without penalty to your grade, which was super nice.
Honestly, I've never written a professor review before because I don't care care but Matt Reed is probably the worst teacher/professor, in my 21 years of life I mean, you talk about a guy who sits behind his desk computer all day doesn't teach doesn't lecture send out weird creepy emails and then accuses you of cheating nonstop and harasses you.
only took this class because I need it for my BSN. I wouldn't recommend taking his class online in the summer; you are basically teaching yourself all the material, and he is of no help for the most part. The only good part of this class is that he responds to emails quickly, but I would not retake this class.
The class was not hard, nor easy. My biggest issue was that we were not actually taught how to do the formulas. The majority of the class was memorizing where to input data in statcrunch. I also felt that the testing particularly for the final was unfair. You were required to memorize twelve chapters and not allowed to utilize any notes.
