Very cool guy, great sense of humor. He's young, so he has a fresh perspective on things. I enjoyed his class.
Great guy, very helpful, sometimes moves through material quickly, making it hard to write down notes.
I am an ECON and FIN major with a 3.66 who has excelled in all business classes I have taken. That being said, this guy CAN'T teach. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He breezes through the material and doesn't explain it well at all. The class average on the first exam was a 61. Taking him was the worst mistake of my academic career.
I found his teaching style to be different, but fun and engaging. He uses sarcasm frequently and keeps the class interesting. I had him for ECO 111, ECO 112, and ECO 251. All of which these classes I feel he did a great job.
If you are looking for a teacher who does not evaluate on knowledge but makes exam consisting of all trick questions, this is your class. Gives insufficient notes/lectures, very inexperienced, and not very approachable. Attendance is mandatory, and is taken the second class begins (literally). Would not recommend him for anyone.
Taking this class was actually awful. Not specific with teaching and goes really quickly. I advise not taking him. Hes very unclear and his sarcasm doesn't help. Not very approachable either.
Was actually looking forward to taking statistics but now have absolutely no interest in this class now. He gets upset when no one participates and then mocks anyone who does give a answer in a sarcastic manner. If you do ask a question he will sort of stare blankly then give some non answer. All of the homework in excel calculates everything for u
Dr Saboe is very sarcastic. The material in this class is challenging, but if you go to class, take good notes and study you can get a good grade. If taking this class with this teacher is your only option left then do it, but if you have the chance to take it with someone else that would be better.
He's very helpful and I would take him again. He's a funny guy with good intentions, but I know many students did not like him. I enjoyed every lecture. There is stat lab which can be a pain.
Tests are super difficult and filled with trick questions. Only 2 test so if you mess up one you are really screwed. Lectures provide little help just go and teach yourself
Professor Saboe was willing to help when you asked. My only issue was in class he would ask us to work in groups and my group often felt lost. His idea was to make us think for ourselves, but we still haven't firmly grasped the concepts.
Saboe means well and can be pretty funny sometimes. However, he just is not the greatest teacher. Unfortunately, he completely sucks at teaching excel so you have to teach yourself. I used youtube for my Excel Final and did better than if I would have studied off the stuff he gave me. If you sack up and go to every class you will do fine
If you have an interest in economics or really want to learn from the course, take Saboe. His lectures are entertaining and relevant to real world situations, and participating is easy. He is also funny and explains concepts well. To do well, you must read the book and be engaged in the subject. His exams are tricky so you have to really understand
This class is literally so hard. I am not good at economics to begin with but with this teacher it's that much worse. I need higher than C- to pass and I don't see that happening this class is very confusing and there are tons of pop quizzes that are difficult. Tests have questions that could have multiple answers. Pick a different teacher
This guy is pretty cool. I'm an econ nerd but even if you're not, if you pay attention to what he says and do your work you will do fine in the class. He's down to earth and jokes with the class a lot.
Saboe is one of my favorite teachers at WCU, he is hilarious and never too serious. The reviews he gives you are exactly whats going to be on the tests. Homework is long and tedious but in the end they really prepare you for tests. Attend class, do your homework, and study the review
Professor is awful. Does not answer in class questions at all. If you were to ask a question he just stares at you blankly without out a response. Gives you in class problems without teaching out how to solve the problem and expects you to figure out how to solve. Not helpful in office hours either, could not give me a simple answer to a question.
Saboe is absolutely hilarious, one of the most sarcastic people I've met. He always kept it interesting even when the content wasn't. Matt gets annoyed if we don't participate and it's very funny. Lots of reading for class discussion. 2 long essay exams and 2 long papers. Very hard grader. Should give out notes as the class is rather unorganized.
This guy is hilarious. Many kids seem to have trouble understanding the concepts, but he explains them fairly clearly. He's not the BEST teacher, but he's very young and if you attend class and do the homeworks you will be prepared for the tests. The project is also fairly easy if you just follow the instructions. He doesn't really care if you skip
He's a funny guy, but if you're not a student that typically reads before you go to class you're already set up to fail. He gives pop quizzes that you can work with other people but it's stuff he knows you're struggling on. One of those teachers that makes you teach yourself and if you can't do that you're behind. Wouldn't recommend.
Very difficult i skipped one class and fell so far behind
Not accessible outside class
Worst teacher ever
This class is a class where you just have to teach yourself. The online homeworks suck because they take forever and if you round your numbers wrong they're marked wrong (fml). You could probably get through this class without going if you do the homework and looked at the power points on D2l. Exams are okay but the final sucked. Very sarcastic guy
Saboe is a great professor and made me laugh every time we had class. His dry humor helps the course suck a lot less. If you do the homework and read the textbook online, you should be fine. Stat is a hard course if you haven't had previous experience, and I feel like he sometimes forgets that. He's willing to help you if you just ask!
Saboe is great! He hardly uses power points when he lectures and discusses econ in a practical way. If you read and do the online homework you should be fine. Gave detailed review packet before each test and the tests were identical to reviews.
Great teacher! I know his teaching style isn't for everyone because he uses power point to teach math equations, but he just wants everyone to pass the class.
Professor Saboe is a nice change from the pace of usually older and boring Economics professors. He was able to use real-world examples and posted lots of extra videos relevant to subject matter, which helps in understanding the topics at hand. I felt like the course was a bit of work, but it's an MBA program, so it should be worth my time and $$!
Saboe is the best professor I have had so far. He really has a good understanding of the material and wants to make sure you do to. There are little group projects almost every class, but they only count for participation and as long as you do them you will be fine. Also interact with him. It helps to show him you actually care. Take this class
This was urban econ. Dr. Saboe is a great professor!! The class is different than most econ classes, it is more about current event topics. Lectures are interesting and there are a few papers.
Statistics is by no means fun but his dry humor makes the class better. He'll stop the class for you if you're confused and he'll stay longer than his office hours if you don't understand something. Great Professor but you have to be willing to spend some time on your own grasping the material he goes over. Would definitely take his classes again
Tough class, especially if you don't have any prior statistics knowledge. Definitely buy the textbooks and read the powerpoints before class. He means well but its still tough.
Really wants to see everyone do well. Makes the class bearable with his dry humor and sarcasm.
Real funny guy. He's knowledgeable and he tries his best to go slow and help the class understand.
Matt really cares about your experience. He appreciates feedback on the class. He adjusted some of the quiz requirements half way through the semester to make things easier which I found disappointing because I was already doing well. He utilizes a lot of online coursework which is nice, but its for one assignment so mastering it is a waste.
Took Dr. Saboe for Micro and he was so awesome that I had to take him for Stat. He did not disappoint. He teaches you as if you have never seen the stuff before, which helped me since I never dealt with Statistics. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, do it. Just be sure to interact with him. He appreciates it a lot
Analysis heavy, lots of homework necessary to handle the content.
By far one of the best professors!! Really works with the students and wants everyone to succeed. Will go over or change stuff for the class, as long as you talk to him. Goes slow and the quizzes really help both your grade and to understand the content.
Even if you have one bad exam, you have plenty of other things that will help boost your grade. HIs lectures cover what is in the book and he gives you stuff like formulas for exams. If you just take your time to absorb the concepts, he is very helpful and has good and useful lectures.
Professor Saboe sets up a great online presence in regards to sharing additional information and videos to help understand the material. The materials is difficult for people who do not analyze data in their everyday lives. Final project is extremely difficult and time consuming as there is little guidance. You will learn a lot but have to work.
I took this professor because I saw all the good comments about him. But after starting the class, I think he's a terrible professor and I wouldn't recommend him. He doesn't teach the material at all in class and expects you to understand how to do the mystatlab homework and the few examples he gives in class. He is also very sarcastic. Tough class
Bad professor. Doesn't seem to know the material well at all and doesn't make any sense. I learned everything from the book.
Great teachers. When grading a test looks to help people rather then hinder them. If you have a bad test many more assignments to make up for them. Drops the lowest quiz and drops two homework assignment. Great teacher.
He's the boy. Funny and nice guy. He really knows his stuff and makes class fun and interesting
Sarcasm is ridiculous, nice guy but in my opinion not a good professor. Lied to my friend and is face one time when we asked if an answer was right while all along it was wrong. Worked so hard in that class to get a D.. mind you it was a 69.
Professor Saboe is a really chill guy and cracks a lot of jokes, but expects us to understand content so quickly. NEVER answers emails, and when you ask for help he looks at you like you have 3 heads. Cool teacher but wouldn't recommend.
Saboe is a G, Good professor, always available during office hours. a real stand up guy. YOU can tell he cares deeply about his students and wants then to succeed baed upon his actions in class. Take if you want a really great professor.
Professor Saboe is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students, and will work with you. He is very funny and keeps class interesting. He creates an open environment and encourages you to ask questions about what you do not understand. The work sheets he goes over in class make it very clear what will be on the test.
Saboe is a serious gem. I would highly recommend him for any course, whether it's Economics or FYE. He is hilarious, keeps students engaged, and is extremely down-to-earth and caring. If you need help with anything, he will take time out of his day to set up a time to meet with you. His tests are EXACTLY like the lectures and wksheets he gives you.
Matt Saboe is a very funny professor who cares about his students. His sarcasm and dad jokes are top tier, so if you aren't good at understanding sarcasm, he might not be the professor for you. He teaches the material well, and makes sure you understand if you put in the effort. He is a very genuine character, and I highly recommend.
He's super funny and nice. He keeps the class interesting. There is a little bit of homework but nothing that's not manageable. Would definitely take him for any econ class, best econ professor I have taken.
Great guy highly recommend taking him for stats! The material is hard but he explains it during lecture to make it easier.
Professor Saboe is a super nice, caring guy. His lectures aren't boring and he's very flexible if you missed an assignment or have to make something up. Homework is also very easy although exams can be a little hard.
Sabeo is the best! He makes class engaging, thought provoking, and a good time. Really cares about and is interested in what he teaches and in his students lives in and out of class. Would recommend anyone to take a class with him!
Having Dr. Saboe was great! Taken his classes before and he has been one of the best teachers I have had at West Chester. This class was really eye opening- and I would definitely recommend it to literally anyone. Saboe really cares about students and if you actively try and care about the course, grading should be no problem and not a worry.
Saboe was dry when it came to lectures. Youre graded on a midterm, final, homework and participation so you basically have to do good on the exams and he doesnt provide much help. He isnt very understanding when it comes to grading. He was nice in person but I will not take him again. Be ready to work with this class.
He is eager to help if you ask for it in class. You just have to be willing. Great professor. Truly cares about students.
Dr.Saboe is best described as sarcastic and fair. He will not shy from away from showing his students the reality of a situation. If you find yourself to be self-righteous, then this may not be the professor for you. He will take you down a peg, but will do so in a respectful manner.
Professor Saboe is a great professor and likes to keep things engaging. Very funny guy and wants to help you and teach you important things to help you succeed.
Super easy class and a good professor. His class is pretty boring though so it's tough to pay attention. He is a funny guy but the lectures are super boring. Tests are take home and you have multiple attempts on homework. Definitely take his class if you want an easy A.
Great class if you participate! He's so incredibly funny, but its better if you give him something to work with, if not I could see the lectures being boring. This class goes against the "be quiet and listen" structure that classes usually use--talk to him, make jokes and the class will be a favorite!!
Saboe's an okay professor. His dry humor is a hit or miss with students. I did well in the class b/c of the homework, but it wasn't completely reflective of what would be on the exams. Make sure you participate and ask questions in class to really understand the material. He likes engaged students, though doesn't respond to emails.
Hands down the best professor I've had at WCU. Great teacher and a great person, his dad jokes always lighten up the room. He made a difficult class easy would take him again in a heart beat
Took as online class, would take one of his classes again. Clearly outlined, grade based on homework, final & 3 other test. Will def need book but it was online access & easy to use. At least 1 homework & test for each chapter.
Dr.Saboe provides a welcoming learning environment, as well as displaying a genuine belief in what he teaches. His humor is dry, but a much welcome reprieve from some of the intense material he goes over in HON320. He is very approachable, and can easily be reached outside of class.
If you follow along with the class and take your time on the homework you will pass. an engaging professor and good lectures but he's awkward to talk to one on one, always talks in a condescending tone.
Homeworks and exams were extremely hard. Spent countless hours trying to complete the homework and still failed the overall homework portion of my grade. Not sure how he had good reviews in the past, probably wrote them himself.
Makes you pay $118 for a textbook that you NEVER USE but have to buy. Loves to waste time in class by over explaining the easiest concepts in class. Final was nothing like the other tests and is cumulative, but he gives no study guide. This man should not teach such a difficult course. By the way Saboe, your class is laughing at you, not with you.
absurd amount of homework, exams were very difficult, doesn't give extra credit, and sucks at answering emails
Professor Saboe teaches as you already know the material. Class is boring lectures with useless classroom polls that have nothing to do with the material. We go over a couple problems in class (2-3max) and he would rarely give the answer to other problems without the work. We asked for the steps and he literally said refer to the other probelms.
Useless lectures, like cmon man. Goes over only the easiest concepts if not wasting time with commentary& useless class polls. Only learnd from HW on Pearson w/ 'examples' &'help me' options. Cumul. final with heavy portion never gone over in class and no pearson HW to help this time!Only take if can self-teach. off semester for him?bad teaching :(
These other reviews are a lie. I don't recommend him. Homework is nothing like what you learn in class and is super hard. Open note on all quizzes but not the final so I didn't know how to prepare at all. Very confusing and doesn't teach what we need to know. Felt like a lot of the lectures were useless and he could've made better use of the time
I love Saboe as a person, hes awesome. I would retake him for other classes, but this class is hard to teach. The lectures were 2-3 examples and then making jokes, which is a waste of time. The exams were hard, the hw was 1 assignment a week, but took almost 3 hours. No extra credit, final was so hard aswell. Only take if you can self teach.
Dr. Saboe is an amazing teacher! What I will say though is you have to pay 115 for a textbooks. The homework took HOURS on HOURS to do. When we brought this up to him he had no idea and made the change. He does not give you study guides BUT you can use your notes. I think a lot of people dont see the advantages he gives us. This is a hard class!
it is clear he wrote all good reviews himself. "will respectfully knock you down a peg" who even says that. Not even 1 full week into taking his class and there's already quizzes (we haven't even learned anything yet??) and homework that takes HOURS. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I would drop him if I could but I need this class for my major. unbelievable
Really chill guy, having really odd grading system but I like it. Overall very good professor, class is really hard but he teach well and there room for mistake when it come to tests.
He is nice and funny but does not care if you do badly in this class. Grading is pass or fail and the Excel projects take hours to do. He expects you to know what you're doing after one class. He also doesn't give feedback on tests.
I can only see anyone passing ECO251 w/ Saboe if you are affluent in Excel and had prior knowledge in Business Analytics as a subject beforehand. His time during regular lectures is poorly managed; usually goes over two problems and sprinkled in dry humor in the span of 50 minutes. Very picky with grading + the pass/fail system needs to go.
Uses this mastery grading system & you get 3 chances to pass each test. Lectures are him going through a few practice problems. Homework is on Pearson and takes a while & you have a few Excel projects throughout the semester. I would take him again, and as long as you go to class and study the in-class practice problems before tests, you can pass.
whatever you do, do NOT take him! he is the WORST professor ever. he uses a weird grading system, gives excel work that takes HOURS, tests are hard, I took him twice & not once has he replied to an email of mine. any good rating you see on here is 110% made by him. save yourself and your money do not take him he should not be allowed to even teach.
Love Saboe, show up do the work and be proactive in earning your grade and you will do great!
Dr. Saboe is an amazing professor. He seems to genuinely care about teaching and his students. While he does give a lot of assignments, they are not hard as long as you pay attention in class. Would definitely recommend if you want a quality professor
Not done course yet. The subject is interesting, and I am actively trying to learn with each assignment. Most time spent teaching myself the textbook (which doesn't actually corollate with lessons most the time), and spending hours on homework. only perk is having unlimited tries on HW. Interesting class, but prepare to struggle, and work for hours
Dr. Saboe is a funny professor who tries to liven up lectures with humor. His assignments are easy, but not directions are not always given, so it is best to reach out with questions. His rotation in HON 100 is probably the most helpful personally. I would recommend.
DO NOT MISS CLASS OR YOU WILL BE CONFUSED! The professsor is great, just make sure to participate and ask questions, he will answer. Also, give suggestions for how to change the course structure and he will take it, there are extra credit opportunities too. Just make sure to get help when you need it and make yourself known, take DETAILED notes...
Halfway through the course right now. I have Dr. Saboe for my business analytics class, and he is a great professor. Very funny, cares, is good at teaching the material. He doesn't give easy A's, you'll have to attend or probably fail the class, and class is high paced. But great professor.
Saboe is a cool guy, but his teaching does not reflect this. goes off topic for about 75% of class, gives you the LONGEST homework assignments where you have to self teach using the help me option as he does not go over it in class. cherry on top is the material we learn could just be a simple excel function making everything he teaches USELESS.
Class was overall easy but mediocre. Lectures were just okay. The assignments/examples provided were helpful, as well as the homework. If you pay attention, go to class, and do the homework, you'll be fine!
Not a very good teacher. He constantly veers off topic and tries to be funny, but mostly just rude. Doesn't often cover what's actually in the assignments because he wastes so much time. And he can't grapple with the fact that he's not good at teaching, if the majority (99%) of the class isn't understanding something, its the professors fault.
ECO 251 is generally a difficult course, but I appreciated how Dr. Saboe taught it. I'm not much of a math person, but explanations were good. There is a lot of homework, but if you pace yourself, it's pretty manageable. I'd be careful missing class though because you will probably be confused.
