Rocks my world! I TA'ed for this guy and it was cake baby! VERY good teach with simplistic tests. Hes more interested to teaching you something, then what you can cram in your head for an exam. A ****ing plus!

This guy is hilarious, and he brings his humor to the class room. Has this awesome simulation game. His tests are sometimes trickery, but he does not require you to do that much. He's awesome, one of the best intro courses

Excellent, funny teacher. Teaches material in a way that you can easilly learn and almost want to go to class. Other instructers, while probably just as intelligent, don't have this capability. Swan is great, his tests arent too bad and doesnt ask you to know but maybe 2 chapters per test. A+

Swan is bar-none, the best teacher I've ever had. He tells you everything that's going to be on his tests before hand & recommends last minute changes to students' papers before he collects them so as to avoid costly mistakes. Do the work and go to class... an A is guaranteed.

I had Swan at Kishwaukee and he was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He even got very apathetic students interested in theatre.

Swan is a great, funny as heck teacher. Material is fun and tests are only on two chapters at a time, but you MUST read the chapters almost WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB as Swan does throw in several "trick type" questions on tests -- 2 or 3 of these wrong can make the difference of one letter grade. A-

Swan is the best teacher I've had in college. He is helpful and makes learning, even hard material, easy. Swan is funny and very knowledgeable. Hands down, one of my favorite teachers.

Excellent, bar none. Good guy to know, trust me when the semester ends, you will MISS not being able to have class with him again. Take him for ANY class (252, 309, 355) you can, he is somebody you will remember when looking back on NIU in 20 years. If only Swan could teach 357 or 358....

This class was one of the best ever. He really explained things well and was a great help to anyone who needed it. I believe it is impossible to fail if you come pay attention, read, and take notes. I loved the simulation. Don't know what it is take the class. He gives awards gives out too.

One of the best, people in class would come to his class dispite skipping others. Fair in grading, will always help you when needed, makes the class fun, great teaching methods and classroom application. I just wish he taught further classes.

One of the best, if not THEE best, in the Coms dept. The guy is a gem. I'll never forget first week of december 2004 the day of the Coms 251 final (yes final = final exam), Swan walked in with the tests, and 120 students clapped. If that doesn't say anything, I dont know what does. You won't see that in a 357 class, I'll gaurantee you that...

Swan is easy-going, funny and very informative and helpful. Don't know how he ended up with a stick in the mud wife like he did.

Coms 251 is freegin' easy and a waste of time, really... I waited until the very last semester that I could to take the course, because I just didnt' want to.... but Swan's hysterical, rarely uses up the entire class period.

Best Teacher I have ever had!

I am a 1990 alum. I took his speech class semester before I graduated and desperately needed an A in the class so I could finally declare my major! I pleaded my case with him the day I picked up my final paper. I got the A. Happy to hear he is still so cool. I think mine was one of the first classes he taught.

Swan needs to teach every COMS class at NIU...he's a great teacher. take his class!

Swan is one of the best professors that I have had so far in my college career. He is alwaysl there when you need help and will always lend a helping hand. His class was not only interesting but also fun.

Swan is the coolest teacher i have ever had while attending NIU. I was thinking about transferring out or just dropping out of college, then i took his class and it was a whole new experience for myself. Every teacher should come and watch how Swan teaches so that they know how to be down to earth and truly relate with the students. Thanks Swan.

Probibly the best prof that NIU has to offer in the COMS dept. Very funny, interesting lectures, tests were very easy. Basically automatic A on class project if you just show up. Loved this guy, wish he taught more classes

Not only is Matt Swan a funny man, he really is a great teacher. He makes class fun but most importantly he cares for his students. He's willing to work with if you have issues or problems. Take his course, you won't regret it.

Swan is such a cool guy, and a great teacher. He's more than willing to work with anyone who has a problem, and he engages students. I took a film class (his forte) and I only wish I could take Swan for the dry theory-based classes. Some students appeared to think his jokes were lame, but I "get" Swan and I ADORE him.

Love Swany! Had him for 251 as well. He's such a great teacher, I wish I was media studies emphasis so I could have him for more classes. He makes classes so interesting and makes you WANT to attend them because he's not a pretentious jerk like a lot of other teachers.

Swan is awesome. He is funny and loves jokes even if they are on him sometimes. He is not an automatic A but if you do your work like a college student should then an A shouldn't be too difficult.

Funny guy. Only interesting portion of the class is the Simulation Series though.. the content of the class you have to basically teach yourself. Not hard if you read the book and follow his study guides.

I had Swan for a number of communications courses. He is a great guy and loves his job. He provides real-life examples for course content. He goes above and beyond the call of a normal teacher. Take any and all classes that you can with him.

I had him for my honors seminar class and I definitely made a great choice! Never have I ever been allowed to record myself running around campus in a fat suit as a final project and received an A for doing so! His jokes are always funny and his laugh is the best, especially when he is just laughing at himself. Also, he acts out embarrassing moments from his life and randomly chooses to fall on the floor. Never a dull moment when "The Swan" is around! :-)

Great class! Majority of work came from a simulation, which is essentially a game. Very easy and he's a pretty funny guy and the tests are not difficult at all. An easy A for this class

I liked this instructor a lot he really benefitted me with the class. Also learned how to write scripts which is something fun and interesting. I like this class with this instructor and I am so totally looking forward to taking another class with him!!!

He really enjoys teaching. You actually do learn a lot in his class, and is always there to answer questions.

Swan is a great professor who know's what he's doing. He brings a lot of experience to the table and proves it throughout his lectures. He is not an easy professor but he is also not the most difficult professor either. I would love to take another class taught by Swan. Come to class, do what your supposed to, you'll pass!

Great communication class very easy A funny guy too!

This class wasn't part of my major so I took it for fun and was surprised by how interesting it was. You're required to do a simulation which sounds intimidating but is actually fun. Swan is a funny guy, helpful, and not a difficult grader. Even though the simulation grade is competitive I still got a good grade despite my group not doing well.

Swan is the best teacher I have had during my time here. He is a very helpful teacher with a lot of constructive criticism. He shows a lot of examples and makes the class work simple. He makes you want to come to class because he's hilarious. Taking 355 makes a huge difference if you move on in production and he's the best!

Swan is such a funny professor! He takes attendance but he's so great that you wouldn't want to miss his class! You have various writing assignments. As long as you have good grammar you will typically receive full points. It is very clear what he wants. You have a few quizzes that are EASY, his study guide tells you what you need to know!

This class isn't difficult as long as you do well on the two (EASY) quizzes, (EASY) final, and simulation. Swan is a funny and nice professor! The simulation is a group project, which was a little stressful. As long as your group puts effort in you should receive a good grade. Swan makes the class very fun with his lectures.

I have taken Professor Swan on multiple occasions because he is an amazing teacher. His tests are not hard, just study the material and you'll do fine. He is fun and always a pleasure in class. He is my favorite teacher by far!

Okay, so Swan is an amazing teacher. He is funny and his sense of humor is great. The lectures are not heavy but they are boring. The lectures are put online and he tells you what to study. Beware of what simulation project group you decide to join. Three tests, ace all of them they add up in the end. Class is mandatory some points off if you miss

Swan is such a great professor. He really has a lot of knowledge of modern media, which helps a ton if you're a media studies major. His projects and papers were very interactive and gave you a lot of creative freedom. The best one by far was the interview project, which was good on your toes work. He's also really funny and makes everyone welcome.

I missed the experience of having him in person, but for an online course he made sure to make class as lively as possible given the situation and he always tries to get students involved. He gives valuable feedback for assignments which helps make every student better.

Swan himself is a character and extremely passionate for the subject. He's very responsive to emails as well so don't be afraid to email him if you have questions.
