He is a great teacher, he takes you where you are at with speaking and only makes you better. He is also very sexy and easy to look at!

Good teach, easy if you attend office hours and let him rip your outlines apart. Entertaining, and likes to take time to know his students.
Hot Hot Hot. Kinda of an ass at times. Grades hard but if you encourage his criticism then he will be glad to help. Attend Office Hours. outlines need to be VERY detailed...
I thought he'd be an informative, cool teacher at first, but my opinion of him totally changed by the end of the year. I didn't learn much, if anything about public speaking. My speech skills are the same as before I completed the class. He mostly talked about politics and current events every day in class.

The best speech teacher that I had. He made me want to strive to do better.

He was really nice, funny, a good teacher, very understanding and he wuold honestly help if he could.
You will not find another professor that cares about his/her students as much as M. Vasques at the college level. He was one of the best teachers I have had in college, and one of my favorites! His love for this subject is contagious and you can't help b
I love this guy. He's like a student and he's very passionate about what he does. I was in the class trying to lower tuition fees...and i'll never forget it. Props to a great teacher.
matt is an awesome teacher. really fun to listen to, always very up-to-date. not bad to look at, either. all around a very nice guy.
mmmm mr vasquez...yumm
Really interesting class! Made me get over my fear of public speaking. He knows a lot about Speech and is very helpful not to mention good looking!!! His classes are always exciting and you will learn a lot
He was the best speech teacher ever! I really enjoyed his class! If you have to take speech take Matt Vasques! Plus he is great to look at all semester!
just an all around amazing teacher.. plus hes not bad to look at by any means.. mmm.. lol
Good teacher, but too much book work for a speech class. But if nothing else, he is easy to look at...
He's a great lecturer and classes are always entertaining but hes a TOUGH grader. If you want an A you'll have to work for it and he doesn't make it easy by ending class early most days and just being kinda unavailable and intimidating. If you say something stupid in class he'll make fun of you too :(
Matt favors certain students and it shows!
Very funny.. keeps class interesting even when it's a boring topic. I would take a class from him again in a heart beat.
Sometimes hovering too much... The group can't think if there is a prof that listens to every bit of your groups conversation.
He's a great teacher. If you attend class and engage in class discussion, you will do fine.
This was one of my favorite classes. He is tough, but that is how you learn. Very interesting to listen too.
This teacher has his favorites and if you are one of them you are lucky. He is very liberal and if you chose to speak on conservative issues your grade suffers. Don't take this teacher. I learned the hard way, you work your butt off, but he grades so off the wall that it is truly a guess as to what your final grade will be on your speeches. Run!
He is the worst teacher at cuesta college! He has his favorites and he makes it clear. He does not make any sense on grading work.If you dont agree with his opinions than he will use that against you. He is super liberal, so if you have any conservative views I suggest not taking him. He will drive you crazy with his opinions!
He is very very hard. He doesnt grade to hard on how you deliver the speech, it's more on how well your outlines, audience analysis, and papers are, similair to an english class. He is very out spoken, doesn't really care about others beliefs. He will work you to death and maybe make you cry.
Incredibly frustrating.. You show up to his class to learn to speak in public and instead you get day after day of his (very intolerant, pseudo-intellectual) personal political crap. Dreaded going to class. Could be a nice guy and effective teacher if he'd tone down the rhetoric.
When I started his Intercultural Comm class, I thought that he would be my favorite teacher but as the class went on, his biases became almost too much to deal with. He taught "intercultural comm according to vasques" and would dismiss disagreeing opinions. I like the guy, but his bias and reverse-racism became extremely frustrating.
I have taken 2 of his classes & he is not an easy A. He does not like most of the news stations, he does not appreciate fallacies & he will tell you about it but that does not make him a bad teacher. He is an extremely intelligent person & if you go to class, pay attention & actually TRY then you too can get the most out of his classes.
He is probably my favorite teacher at cuesta. His classes are hard if you don't attend. He will test you and your arguments, so be prepared and stick to your guns. He likes a challenge so debate him. I always looked forward to his class. Great guy.
He does have favorites, and a cocky persona. I did three times the work for his class than my other classes and got all A's in my other classes--but a B in his. I thought the grade was a little unfair--but perhaps he would think that I have an issue with "entitlement." He needs to be less judgemental--more supportive.
I love this teacher! He is very funny and gets along great with his students. Kind of a hard grader, but tests are pretty easy and its a very interesting class. Deff my favorite teacher at cuesta!
Great teacher. you are a fool if you don't take this class!
This class was incredibly enjoyable. He allows you to pick your own speech topics. Make sure to do your work and take your time; he's a strict grader and knows when you're slacking. Super funny guy, really enjoyable discussions, overall fun class. Take it.
Class was fun. Mostly discussion and a couple presentations. No textbook required. Super casual. Vasques comes across sort of cocky, or like he's trying to be as cool as he was in college. He's nice, though, and we had really interesting discussions in class that opened my eyes to new ways of seeing the world.
Absolutely loved him. Best teacher I've had, hands down. Also quite a babe :)
Inspiring. sexy. brilliant.
one of my favorite classes i've taken. Super great at clarifying exactly what is due. super supportive environment. respect mandatory during other's presentations. first day acts scary, rest of the time absolutely awesome. good looking too. 5 speeches total, encourages you to use same topics and edit a little. low stress.
Mr.Vasquez was a beautiful teacher, he kept my eye's and mind open. I moved to maui and just remember him as a great leader...thank you.
Just wanted to say his class was great as was he as a teacher. Living in lahaina, maui now it makes me miss his class. I belive he lived in salt lake city too . It's nice to have a teacher who has been places. I miss him.
His class was hard, but any speech class is nerve wracking. I took the online class of his, but he made us all feel very comfortable and told us exactly what he was looking for as far as our presentation and outlines of our speeches. Definitely a great teacher, and funny, so I enjoyed coming to class.
Matt is an awesome teacher with a passion for his job and interests. He is so helpful and always has good things to say. I highly recommend this class to anyone looking for an interesting class as well as an excellent teacher. Not a hard class if small assignments are kept up on.
I was honestly dreading taking a speech class in school and putting it off as long as possible, but this class was one of the best classes I've taken in my school career. The class helped so much with my anxiety of speaking, and Matt Vasques is a phenomenal teacher. He is very passionate about his lessons and works very hard to help you succeed.
Mr. Vasquez is undeniably hot; a great motivator to take the dreaded speech class, but he is also the best teacher at Cuesta. His lectures are very informative and he makes sure to create a comfortable environment for his students. His grading was firm but fair, he expects continued excellent, not just on your first speech. The book is a great read.
After taking his COMM201A, I decided to taking his Intercultural Comm. class online. It was the best experience I have had online, his own students created the material and the homework is focused on communicating with each other (the class) as well as a lot of self-observation. The book was interesting and the class filled a diversity requirement.
Great teacher. Ready to help, understands your problems and teaches clear.
Amazing teacher! Always fun and made class not boring. Tells you what he wants from you in your speeches and doesn't grade harshly. One of my favorite teachers and classes!
Intelligent, funny, clear, and always has something inspiring and thoughtful to say! Makes a class that could be terribly boring completely awesome and fun. Loved going to class. Apply yourself and show that you care about your speech subjects you choose, he really values that! He's very open minded too, makes you think! Wonderful teacher!
Matt Vasques is awesome! I took a hybrid class, so lectures and quizzes were online and we came in for speeches. He made the online experience very doable and I looked forward to coming into class. He makes himself very available if you need help. I'd dropped this class 2xs before I found him. I wouldn't take this class with anyone else.
Took his hybrid class the first half of fall semester. Have always thought I had the potential to be a good public speaker, but never felt confident enough to put myself out there. Matt is an awesome teacher who somehow makes the whole class gel, so that you never really feel like you're on your own. You WILL be a better speaker after this course.
It was awkward when he complimented himself in his lectures and acted arrogant and unsympathetic. Didn't clarify the grading criteria for speeches, and had very limited office hours. Very blunt and unapproachable. Don't take the hybrid class, you'll regret it. Group speech is much easier
I wasn't looking forward to taking this class, but I really enjoyed it, mainly because of Matt. I took the online version of this class, and I enjoyed it so much I wish that I had taken the regular face to face class instead. If you're dreading this class, I highly recommend taking one of Matt Vasques' sections.
I loved this class and this professor. I had been dreading taking speech but Mr. Vasques made it a great learning experience. He grades mainly on the content of the speech instead of the presentation which was great for someone like me who is nervous in front of an audience. He also gave a lot of freedom when it came to choosing a topic.
This was a pretty simple online class. Its 6 discussion posts and 3 papers. The discussion posts are easy; you'll get full credit for doing them. He doesn't grade the papers harshly. I would recommend buying the textbook so you can use it as a source for some of the papers, but you really don't need to do the assigned reading.
Make sure you learned how to make a powerpoint presentation in 2nd grade. He has funny lectures. Don't talk or do anything but listen when someone is presenting or he will GO NUTS. The final is online, you get 3 shots and its an hour long about. I did it with a friend and we both got an A. Go to class.
AWESOME professor. Really cares about his students, he may come off as mean sometimes but he just has dry humor. Easy to talk to, grades fair and gives interesting assignments!! Highly recommend
This class was completely irrelevant to my major. That being said, it was super easy and Matt was extremely helpful. He is willing to assist his students with whatever aspect of the course they may struggle with, provided the student is showing dedication to the workload.
One of my favorite classes. He is funny and makes the lectures interesting. Goes through the screeches and all the tests are online and you can take them as many times as you need. Most of the time you get out early. I highly recommend and would take again.
Good Prof, Not easy, but is aware not everyone is trying to be a public speaker. Is there for you when you ask, and really does care if you get something out of his class and wants everyone to do well. I took it online and the online site was different than my other moddle classes, so if you can I would take him in person. But good prof.
Great professor! I took him for 3 classes and every single one made me a better student. I highly recommend him if you are wanting to take any Comms classes
Great teacher! Loved his class. I had him for an online Speech class and now I want to take another class from him. Very engaging and funny. Do the work, make an effort and you'll do great! Helped me feel comfortable speaking in front of people.
Vasques is by far the best professor I've ever had. I took the class because I needed it, but ended up really enjoying it. Vasques knows what he's talking about, tells you what you need to succeed, and is so inspirational. If you don't pass the class it's because you didn't try at all. I changed my major after taking this course, highly recommend.
Matt Vasques is one of my favorite profs from Cuesta. He is super funny and makes his lectures interesting. He only lectures on what is necessary to help you succeed on your speeches. Only gives 3 speeches which are very doable and well explained. This class was intimidating at first, but I ended up loving it. I would definitely take him again.
I'm a returning student and I was PETRIFIED to be in class again. Mr. Vasquez had me laughing and happy to be there within an hour. I learned SO MUCH and I'm still scared of public speaking but now I know I can do it well. Mr. V is inspirational, comforting, and very thorough. Follow his guidelines EXACTLY and you'll do great!
If you are a comms major at Cuesta it should be required to have Matt Vasquez. When he speaks you want to listen. Just trust me on this one
Vasques is alright, he comes off super cocky and its funny at times and annoying at other times. He doesn't seem like a fair grader either. I think in comparison to other professors at Cuesta, Vasquez is the easier option but I felt frustrated by his class. Really wasn't a fan of this class but I think other students would say the opposite.
Super easy class. He says the topics of your speeches don't matter, but he definitely grades based off of your topic. He's super full of himself, so I never went to him for help just because he's annoying. But he gave lots of extra credit and made it super comfortable to speak in front of the class.
I took the hybrid online class which means everything is online except for 4 in class speeches. I got lucky and got to record my last 2 speeches. I would recommend this class to someone who wants to do the least amount of public speaking possible. There's no real homework or reading, just a few assignments, speeches and quizzes. Pretty easy.
Kind of a weird guy. He can be super funny and relaxed at times but also does NOT mess around when it comes to his class rules. But, he really knows his stuff and makes sure you learn what he's teaching. I HATE public speaking and Vasques got me to be excited for speech days. If you try hard and do the reading you'll succeed.
The class was 9 weeks, so there was a ton of material crammed into a short amount of time. Assignments are engaging. Prof includes modern examples to keep things fresh. Tough grader, so stay sharp.
Vasques is by far my favorite instructor of all time. Although writing and delivering speeches was difficult, I learned so much through this class and had fun in the process. If you are terrified of public speaking, you shouldn't be if you plan on taking it with him. He makes the material easy to understand. I was actually sad to complete the class
Matt was an amazing Professor to have. He really cares about all of his students and their success in the real world. He took the time encourage us in what we did well but also in what we could do better. Overall, a great teacher that really cares.
Matt is the nicest professor I have had. He really knows how to get people to relax before they give their speeches, which is a relief. He grades fast, and provides really good feedback. He tells you what he wants in a speech, as long as you listen to what he likes it's an easy A. Matt also allows you to take the quizzes an unlimited amount. TAKE!!
This is my second time taking a class with Vasquez. He is the good kind, he cares about student learning. You can take the quizzes as many times as you want until you get the grade you want. Discussions matter, pay attention to the schedule, but they are not hard. He uploads video feedback and responds quickly. Great teacher and good person.
If you are scared to death of public speaking, this is the teacher for you! His manner lends itself to being very "chill" and makes what could be a very uncomfortable experience comfortable. Instead of being uptight and unapproachable, Mr. Vasques is approachable and empathizes with the fear of public speaking.
Probably the hardest class for me that Ive taken (since Im very shy/anxious person) and Im blown away that I actually passed! Mr. Vasques made the class very relaxed and informative! I took him online and his feedback was always so good, uplifting and motivating! Also material is easy and he gives you plenty of time to prepare for speeches!
Vasques is one of the best teachers I have had at Cuesta. I took the class half online and half in class. Only ended up having to go to the class once and then went again for extra credit. Super convenient being able to give your speeches online and takes some anxiety away from the whole process, I found.
Thought he was going to be a awesome teacher at fiirst, but he ended up failing me in the end. This surprised me because I actually tried and worked my butt off in this class, as public speech was something I truly struggled with at this time. I even made everyone in the class something that related to my topic. I wouldn't take him again.
I completed every assignment according to the rubric and would still not receive full or even close to full credit. You have to write 5+ page papers that are only worth 10 points. Also if you get below an 80 on the main project your chances of getting an A are slim to 0. Received lower grades on papers that involved opinionated political issues.
Great teacher. Easy A if you put in the work.
He's a good professor. He's funny and intense, sometimes even in the same sentence, its scary, so I'm glad I took him for an online class. He's willing to help you if you need it and wants to see you succeed. As long as you pay attention, do the work, and stay on top of it, its an easy class. Without the extra credit, I wouldn't have done as well.
He didn't teach at all. Just told us to read the textbook. We met only four times the whole semester--class was listed as a synchronous online course. Worst grader I have ever had. Would dock you points for the little things and ignore the rest of the work you put in. Take away: if you are anything less than perfect, forget about getting an A.
Vasques was intense but nice. He would meet outside of class and he will help brainstorm. Tough grader but if you put in good effort and follow his instructions, you will at least get a B, if not an A. Do the extra credit to make up for any points you miss. Quizzes are fairly easy as well as the few assignments he gives outside of the speeches.
Had an medical issue during the course and was very understanding and helpful. He was also a very fair grader. His instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Professor Vasques teaches a great public speaking class. He is a tough grader, but as long as you follow the instructions and read the textbook, you'll get an A. There are only four Zoom meetings for the whole semester (17 weeks). He gives you plenty of time to do the 3 presentations (PPT, Informative, and Persuasive). There are only 4 quizzes.
Professor Vasques is definitely one of the toughest graders I've encountered, but his feedback is always spot-on and will 100% help you with getting a better grade next time. I went from a B to an A+ from one speech to the next thanks to his clear feedback & grading criteria. He's also pretty funny and his material keeps you engaged. Great guy.
Online speech class had 3 speeches, 4 quizzes, and 2 discussion posts. As long as you don't leave the speeches to the last minute, it's a very manageable class and a great experience. I accidentally turned one discussion post in late (he doesn't accept late work), but I had engaged and asked questions early on so he accepted it late.
In my experience, this professor's professional abilities fell short in several areas. Their hands-off teaching style, coupled with inconsistent availability and unhelpful feedback on speeches, made it difficult to grasp the material effectively. Moreover, the professor's condescending attitude during live Zoom sessions was disappointing.
There were three presentations throughout the course. The first speech is (intro) PowerPoint; the second is information speech; and the third is a persuasive speech. 4 Zoom meetings total. The professor didn't really tell us what to do/expect. Just to read chapters. What helped me was looking at previous students outlines and going based on that.
Only 3 speeches, only had to meet on zoom 4 times. Once at the begging of class and then only again for speeches. Very tough grader has very specific things he wants in your speeches. Do those things you will succeed if not you will probably fail.
Prof. Vasques is a tough grader, but his clear feedback helps you improve. The online format with only 4 Zoom meetings works well. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for speech prep. Overall, a challenging but rewarding class.
