He is a great teacher, and really cares about his students. If you miss class, he is willing to help as long as you email him and seek it out. Easy class, some of the quizzes were difficult, but he would add points if the majority found questions to be too difficult. I wish I could take another class from him, I learned so much!

This class was a bit hectic during the summer, but there is an important (and significant to your grade) outdoor project and that would have been tough to do during the winter. You'll get most of the information you need in order to pass from coming to class and listening to the lectures.

I REALLY advise taking from this professor. Not only is he knowledgable about the subject but he teaches the curriculum very well. He takes time to answer any questions you may have. Matt loves geology and welcomes questions/discussion. He quizzes after every lecture, requires a field project/research paper, and several in-class labs for identifying rocks, fossils, and minerals. He is a generous grader, sets clear expectations, and offers extra credit with every quiz. His lectures were incredible and relevant. 10/10

I chose his class because many friends have told me about how nice he is and how good he teaches. when I took the class, I loved it. it wasn't that hard that I passed with an A

pretty fun class, you learn a lot. matt gives a lot of feedback and he's very willing to help. there are a few assignments before field camp, a presentation, and then a final poster which are straightforward. i would definitely take this class from him.

Matt had just enough lecture time as well as hands-on labs. He is always willing to help if needed and was available to email or schedule a meeting if you needed a little bit of extra help.

I really enjoyed the class, his lecture were well put together and detailed. He also was very helpful if you needed extra help on assignments going out of his way to meet with you. He's very knowledgeable of subject and goes the extra miles. I definitely recommend this teach for Geology.

Took GEO 1010 with Matt, he is a really awesome teacher. Funny, caring, lectures are easy to understand, flexible, easily going, etc. Basically a super great professor. There is quizzes on each chapter, but it's nothing crazy just a short quiz to make sure you understand the concepts discussed. Take geology 1010 with Matt, you won't regret it!

The class is interactive, hands on, so you can apply what you learn. It is not too demanding but it is easy to get involved. Easy to understand and to get a good grade.

Mr. Affolter is an amazing teacher. He is in his class most days after school and every lunch, so if you have a question he will be able to answer it. He stops and waits for questions after every slide and asks if you are done before moving on.

He is a great professor and I recommend him. If I could choose more tags I would have put Accessible Outside Class and Extra Credit. He is a caring teacher and although he has many lectures, they are interesting enough to keep you awake.

This class was really fun and actually sparked my interest in geology. If you pay close attention to the lectures you can do a less intense reading of the textbook. The lectures were interesting and the labs were really fun and informative. He wants all his students to do well, so if you put in the work you should pass.

Geology has never been this fun to learn. He has a great way of teaching and makes pretty funny jokes. Hes understanding of how sometimes things come up. I wish more professors were like him!

Matt is a seriously passionate teacher when it comes to geology and biology, even though I only took his historical geology class. He is a total geek about biology/paleo-biology, which makes him an awesome resource for any related questions you may have. Especially if they involve dinosaurs! He was always quick to respond and to answer questions.

Great online textbook with regular gradeless comprehension quizzes. I don't know if the lectures are mandatory, but if they are, they are redundant to the textbook.

Matt is a great professor, and very funny too! He makes you feel comfortable even when you feel like you ask dumb questions but he still tries to help you understand the concept. There are quizzes almost every week so study the lecture notes if you don't show up to class. If you show up to class every time AND take notes then you'll pass every quiz

Though I was a distance learner, it was a really fun class to learn about. I believe if I was a in person learner, I bet ill an even understanding and hands-on activities.

The only thing we really did in class would be taking notes on the lectures he gave. Here and there we would do other assignments for the class. Lectures get sometimes boring, but they're very informational. He gives you plenty of time to study for tests that aren't very hard. Pay attention if you want to pass!

I love the overall environment of his classroom. When he is explaining the lesson he takes the time to explain the more complicated things so that they make sense to everyone. Take his class, you won't regret it. He is really passionate about the subject and really wants to teach and inspire. Make sure you go to class to be present for labs, but he also works with his students to allow them to make them up if they miss one. He is also great about reviewing material for the test and helps answer any questions beforehand
