Wonderful guy, great sense of humour. . . and lovely hair!
Best looking and most trendy professor I ever had. Pin stripes definitely works best for him! I never thought mundane management could be soooooooo interesting! Thank you Prof..xoxo
Very engaging; well-spoken and helpful. I hope he'll be teaching some upper-year courses.
Very engaging...but what's with the Wal-mart obsession?
Seems to know his stuff. He's also a really funny guy.
I agree with most of the reviews. Mr. Archibald has been an effective teacher and communicator. However, I find the course material is getting tougher and it's been harder to follow the lectures. Fortunately, Matt welcomes emails, and has been prompt and detailed in his responses.
Mr. Archibald is enthuiastic about the course materials and tells interesting stories that relate to and help me understand those materials. Outstanding lecturer, hope to have him again if I get into the business faculty.
i totally agree with what eveyone is saying but i think no one has actually mentioned how HOT he actually is. the best prof i have had, He is definitly my motivation to do good in that class, after all you need to standout in that huge class somehow. ;)
mid-term sucked. i could have been better prepared, but wish the material could have been simplifed in class. looking forward to an easier final.
He is the best professor!!!
Matt's a funny and approachable guy who knows his stuff. even though the class is 7-10 on thursdays his hotness balances it out. gotta love the fact that he's always in a suite. ;)
He's hilarious to watch, and so are his eyebrows. Although he seriously sucks at teaching the math stuff, he's still a kool guy!
At first his theatrics distracted me from the material. His teaching style grew on me though. I agree with the last review, he's gotta work on the math stuff. He mdae that confusing. The rest he's made very clear. I even did fairly well on the mid-term
Interesting and engaging, kept me coming to class, tries to adjust to the students' needs. He doesn't seem to have lots of experience with the material, but I fully reccommend him for this type of intraductory course. I loved it and I'm an Arts student!
I am happy to say it gets easier the second time round.
he was the best prof ive had to date

Really relates to the younger crowd.
He's a relatively new teacher so he tends to try a lot and sometimes overexagerates with the loudness and facial expressions... but his hotness makes up for it. However, he seems to be really into what he teaches, is organized and knows his stuff. Oh ya, did I mention he was HOT? Gotta love a man in a suit!
Although he may be pleasing to the eye, he knows it. He isnt the worst proff, or best. He enjoys what he teaches, yet I did not enjoy listening to what he had to say. Sometimes he can come off as rude.
Loud, clear voice, fun to be around.
I enjoyed Matt's class very much, loud voice, funny and engaging. Check the math on your Mid-terms, Papers etc, I caught them twice in screw-ups, but Matt fixed it right up...thank God I checked though:)
Matt is super goodlooking, absolutely hilarious, and very engaging. he took dry course material and made a very interesting lecture and class. did i mention he's ridiculously cute?
SOOOOOOO hot. Bottom line.
Matthew Archibald is simply THE man (costume/cravate)in the university. Each thursday night, when I am dead tired, just seing him makes me feel like 'Heaven is a place in tha VNR146 room!!!'. But, he is a good (looking ^_^) teacher as well. He will help you with the material if you go see him (Hint). Do not call him, send him an email.
Oh my goodness. Can you say good looking? That is of course, beside the point. BUT he makes class so inspiring, even when its accounting and blablabla...quite enjoyed this class even though i suck at math! He is SO GORGEOUS. Worth every moment spent in class.
He is the most interesting, funny and enthusiatic prof/teacher i have ever had! You can tell he loves his job and wants to motivate others to learn! He persuaded me into having an interest for business. Although this may be a very hard class (marking wise) it is by far the best class you could ever take. He is also a young good looking guy ;)

Needs to get a teaching degree and stop yelling. other than that half decent as a person, terrible teacher.
EXTREMELY UNFAIR, my case was originally 81/100, it was decreased to 53 because of stupid and lame reasons.
Hilarious prof! organized and makes class interesting by using examples we can relate to. Grading is sometimes harsh but shows you what to expect.
Amazing Professor! Very enthusiastic about what he teaches. Also a great person and very approachable. Assigments and tests are easy as long as you know how to follow instructions!!! On the case outline when he says something he means it!! Overall great class!
Although I've got no interest in the class at all, Archibald managed to keep me awake in class and make me get a good mark in this class. Not a bad prof. at all!
The fact that half of the people rated him as "hot, interesting person, funny" proves what a distraction he is to the material. Matt if you're reading this (you would), while "hotness", overenthusiastic tonality and expressions, and funny stories about your life might make the girls swoon, it certainly does not help me learn about business admin.
Good prof, mkaes you go to class because he only puts half the material on the website, he likes to talk about himself ALOT though.(I wouldn't be surprised he is was reading this now...Hi Matthew...) He ALWAYS drinks a redbull(or generic energy drink) before his lectures and tends to have his microphone turned about about 10 knoches too high.
Does anyone knows what his degree is? If he has a masters or a PHD? Good prof but needs to deliver the material in depth and be more relax with the grading scheme ....
I found his personal examples helped me understand the content better - and kept me interested. Final exam was tough, but I think he was very fair overall. Clear with expectations at least...not like some profs. I know he has an MBA, he might be working on a Phd?
I really liked Matt's high energy in class and his dry sense of humour. He gives very good examples for the concepts and his tests are fair. He's extremely nice and helpful as well.
This guy is born to teact,I just can't imagine him doing anything else, maybe in earlier centuries he'd have became a leader.Extremely attractive with karisma, very passionate, give him couple more years and he is going to be the PROFESSOR NUMBER 1 in the University of Ottawa, because he simply cares.
This class was amazing. Even though I did horribly with finance, everything else was crystal clear, and applicable to real life situations (rare find in these university courses...) and the examples we used for analysis were interisting and fair. Like I said, the finance was rough and it seemed a bit rushed, but everything else was so so helpfu
Professor Archibald?!There isn't much to say, but you GOTTA GO to the class, you won't regret it, for me it was the best class I ever had, and grades are besides the point.
Awesome prof...the best I have ever had..I am in science but thought that I would take this course for fun and it was the best decision I ever made...I don't care what anyone says (Matt don't listen to the others) you are not a distraction in class...yes you are very attractive and charismatic etc. but that is what made the class so fun
Awesome prof...the best I have ever had.....I don't care what anyone says (Matt don't listen to the others) you are not a distraction in class...yes you are very attractive and charismatic etc.(but don't let that go to your head) but that is what made the class so fun and keptme coming back every week.. and exams VERY fair...
He is really interesting and funny.
He is really funny. This class goes until 1000 at night but I still go and listen to every word he says, mostly because hes so good looking ;). I have pretty much no interest in the material but somehow when hes speaking its the most interesting stuff in the world :)..
This guy thinks he is god?s gift to women. He looks down on those who are more financially successful then him. Waste lots of time talking about his life and stupid things he?s done. Personally I have a master?s degree and took this class for personal interest and it was a total waste of my time. By far worst teacher I?ve come across.
This prof is good! He makes a three hour class bearable and easy to understand. A nice and funny (and fairly good-looking) guy!
he is terrible, he thinks he's the greatest thing out there and very self centered. his class is totally pointless, i never went and still i managed to pull through with over a 90 on his tests. I might as well teach myself at home. People handed in the case studies literally 1 MINUTE LATE and lost 20% of their COURSE mark!...ridiculous.
Not the greatest. His energy is probably better used in the workplace than wasted in classroom of girls who aren't listening to a word he says becasue they think he's good-looking, and pretty boys who put too much gel in their hair, spend too much money on Italian shoes, and are all just there to learn how to make quick money.
He's really interesting. I was rarley bord in his class. He has music playing before class starts, it makes you feel like your not in school. He's funny. But his course is hard.
Prof is very self-confident and a little arrogant at times, but generally is a nice guy. He makes a three hour lecture bearable and definitely knows what he's talking about. The exams reflect the course material and there are multiple choice from textbook so make sure you study but other than that good class and good prof.
Nice prof, surprisingly patient if you ask him not a VERY stupid question(I didn't expect that from such a hyper person who keeps drinking energy drinks during his lectures)Always well prepared for the class, most guys don't like him coz he has the tendency to spark the students interest to the material by telling stories & giving personal examples
this teacher marks super hard!! if you are used to getting 80s in business (high school) expect to get 50s and 60s
Best 3 hour class ever, I would recommend him to anyone, made me want to switch to business. He really wants to be successful and I'm sure he will be one day. He is hilarious sometimes, I would go to his class even if I wasn't registered in it. TAKE THIS CLASS
One of the best teachers in the University of Ottawa. Passionate, dedicated, charismatic and fluent. To me he seemed like a very down to earth guy. He explained lots of his class theory with his own life and made the theory interesting by throwing in some jokes quite often. I recommend him to anyone and would attend even if its not my class.
Way to conceited, thinks he knows everything Thinks he?s a baller because he drives a BMW Looks down on students and thinks he better then them Talks too much about his personal experiences
Ok, all the positive commentary that this porfessor is getting is from little girls that are gauking over this guy's good-looks. Aside from that, a few people were correct in saying that he is the most self-centered prof i've ever encountered. He talks about himself way too much and his very apparent big ego is such a distraction and huge turn off
Very knowledgeable prof.. knows a lot about business... funny to watch conducting a class though, he really paces back and forth on the stairs.. its hilarious, and talks realllyyyyyyyyyy loud. Other than that, he was a bit cocky and it got annoying at times, but nice guy, and most girls think hes hot, i dont, but whatever.
This professor is a rock star, he makes efforts to learn everyones names, he makes the class interesting and engaging. His tests aren't hard but his assignments can be, this guy actually makes the effort and it shows. Great Prof, Nicest Guy, Funny Nova Scotian Accent....Take the Class!
This guy's classes are amazing!! He tries to relate all the concepts to real life, he makes everything easy and he is very good at lecturing! Tests and quizzes were fair. This guy is also truly Canadian!
Not only is he hot as hell, he is ALWAYS dressed to kill in a nice suit. His class is super interesting, I never get bored or drift. Has awesome real life examples and great charisma. I look forward to his class every week because its definitely the most interest one I have. People talk about his ego, and they must be nuts. SUPER nice.
He keeps you interested in his lecture
Don't listen to the bad stuff people write here, it doesn't make sense. You have idiots complaining it's too easy, and then you have people that say his class is hard... He has a lot of energy and does talk about his personal experiences, but that's what makes it different and intersting. If you want a powerpoint pres read by some bore, go ahead...
..OH, and you people complaining about his looks, ego, and BMW, you are a moron. Showing that you are successful and taking care of your appearance is a good thing. You need to show employers that you can take care of yourself and look professional. Stop being a jealous baby. This guy is a great prof. I would take this guy over any other lamo.
Nice, charismatic guy but does not know how to teach his subject. Rabbles on about useless stuff all class long. You find at the exam that nothing on it was covered in class and it is poorly written deliberately to confuse. I had a 9.3 GPA and this class tanked me down to an 8.4 to lose my scholarship. For no reason, it should have been easy stuff.
Cons:talks too much about himself and not enough about course material, rambles on too much that it deters the ability to learn and not be bored. Pros: nice prof, easy if you like his ramblings about other irrelevant stuff.
He's honestly so hot. He kept the class very interesting.
He lectures smoothly with fun anecdotes but teaches nothing about business. If you want hot go stare at a Brad Pitt poster, if you want to learn something about Admin, avoid this class. He tries hard to appear like a tough prof, to teach and prep everyone for tougher courses, but ends up writing vague and inefficient tests.hey, it's just an intro.
A real passion for what he does. Interesting and lively class. If he's cocky and loud who cares? He gets the course material taught and his exams are fair. Would definitely take one of his classes again!
Great prof. Comes off as a bit obnoxious at first but that's just the way he is. He's professional and gets the point across easily. Loud and clear voice and easy to understand.
Dane cooks twin
Very good prof! He's very loud and will definitely keep you awake. He's funny and his stories in class are very interesting. His tests might not be the easiest but he's definitely a good prof. Recommended!
Great prof, clear, concise, and humorous. He got an applause at the end of his last lecture. The only downside was that the exam was not at all what he covered in class.
AVOID.. If you like hearing someone?s life story this class is for you. If you want to learn something stay away. If you have daddy issues you'll love this guy. Overall easy class but he should be doing something else as a career. Like?s to talk himself up a lot ( I guess he?s got low self esteem )
I can't handle how good looking this man is. I can't focus in class. If you have a hard time focusing when somebody is too attractive, don't take this class.
This professor was great at explaining the material during class. However, when it came to the individual case study our work was graded unfairly. Atleast 50 students returned their grades to be remarked, and he was very unhelpful in fairly evaluating our work. Archibald did not thorougly review our 20page cases were worth 20% of our final grade!
Long winded lectures, takes a while to get to the point. The material is clearly presented. The case studies were long and the marking is very strict. Do not be late in submitting an assignment, he absolutely will not accept it. The exams closely reflected the course material and are not too hard.
He is a great prof couldn't of asked for better. This class is a lot of work but if you are a hard worker you should be fine in this class. If you don't like the class it's ok because you can just stare at him.
You have 2 case studies for this course. You will be very confused on what he wants. All I can tell you is make sure you get the answers from the texbook it is all there. The final exam was brutal. Know the balance sheet, income statement and Cashflow statements by heart you will need to construct them and be able to calculate them thoroughly.
This course was by no means easy. It will not be fun and the DGD is painful. Archibald is a very good teacher and seems like a really nice guy. The exams are very difficult though. For this course you're gonna need a good memory, better working habits, and presentation skills.
Fantastic professor, couldn't ask for better. Lectures are perfect and at good pace. In terms of content, there is a lot of information to know so reading over powerpoint slides and textbooks should do the trick. As for DGDs, two case studies are done in groups that are chosen by your TAs, so be prepared to work hard with your teammates.
Lacked koppel
A very good instructor with slides that nicely compliment the textbook. However, this class is a lot of work:2 group projects in your dgd, an assignment, and a midterm + exam.
Very good prof. knows what he's talking about and makes it interesting. he is always ready to help if you need it. Take him over any other prof for sure!
Great teacher that really know what he is doing. Doesn't read off the slides, and it also just a great guy.
MATT is fantastic!! Always willing to help and super organized definite A++ from my part
Great guy all around and genuine. Clear & organized lectures, and he clearly enjoys what he does. Great prof
He is an overall great teacher. Enjoyed going to class. His exams are tricky and the most of the mc questions have little relevance to the course material. You really need to study for the exams since there is tons of information compact into the course. He definitely knows his class material REALLY well and portrays it as such.
Best prof I had last semester. Always willing to help and is very approachable. He responds to emails very quickly and goes out of his way to meet with you and set up appointments. Midterm was tricky but the final was super easy. The individual assignment took me over three weeks to complete. Easy assignment, very time consuming. Recommended course
He is a nice and very helpful Professor, his exams are long but fair.
This man was such an awesome prof! The midterm was hard, but exam was super easy. I never missed a class and I had 3 hours with him, I never fell asleep either because it was so interesting! He answers every email and is more willing than any other prof to help you and talk to you.
The course was a lot of work throughout it. It is a ton of work so don't slack around. All in all the prof does nothing it is all the TA's. I've passed and I'm done. I wouldn't reatke it. Have fun
Best prof at Telfer, very demanding course and heavy workload in DGD but the Matt makes up for it. He really cares how you do and can keep you intrigued for 3 hours straight. Also Dane Cook's twin.
the prof is great but his marking sheet is harsh and no room for mistakes, hell fail you if you have even small mistakes. hes a good prof but the marking scheme his TAs follow is ridiculous
he is a nice person and the class is kind of difficult
This prof is very easy to understand and everything he says is interesting. However, he (or his TAs) are VERY hard markers, so you need to put A LOT of effort into the individual project and the cases. He takes time to respond to emails, so if you got a question don't bother emailing it, ask him after class even if that annoys him.
since this is an "entry-level" course you have to study hard. this course goes through a little bit of everything that you will study in the rest of the years. read the text and make notes (i.e definitions).
This course takes lots of effort and time. Read both the textbook and notes and attend class.
Great professor, prepares you for life. Very easy to understand. If you think he grades badly, you've never really had bad profs.
Matt Archibald is one of the most engaging professors I've had. However, written reports are graded quite strictly - marking scheme is very specific and if you don't provide details - even if your writing is good and ideas are interesting, you will only get Cs and Bs. But if you study textbook hard you can get A's on midterm/final.
Good prof? but he gives his students the hardest test.
Would be nice if he gave us a clear idea of what he was looking for in his reports. The class requires a lot of memorization.
This professor talks clearly and his midterm just follow the slides.
He's really funny and his lectures always keep you entertained. However, he is a tough marker and you really need to study for his midterms and finals, this is probably one of the hardest courses I had to take.
Honestly the best prof I had this semester, he is very engaging with the students and clearly knows his material very well, but the only way to get an A is if you study from the beginning of the semester, or else you'd get a B or a C, and his midterm was very difficult compared to other profs. I still think he's awesome though.
I was the most disappointed with this prof after taking him this year since I read all of his "amazing" reviews. He may be at lecturing and he is a nice guy, however his class is the toughest to pass in ADM1300. The tests are completely different for his class than the other sections as he writes them and they are MUCH HARDER! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!
Matthew Archibald is a good prof. He's very helpful during his office hours and his lectures are quite entertaining. The main problem are his TAs. Sometimes it feels like their marking is unjustified and they just write feedback that is very unhelpful. Avoid his class because of the TAs. They won't give you marks that you deserve.
He is a very hard marker. No matter how much you study his multiple choice will still kill you. This was the class I focused the most of my efforts on and ended up barely passing.
Professor Archibald changed the way I feel about Telfer completely. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and anytime I tried to make a presentation... no matter how much I prepared--- my anxiety overcame me and I could not complete the presentation. Matt worked really hard with me this semester and I am going to end up passing. Amazing guy!!
Interesting, great at lecturing! Tough marker and midterm was extremely difficult, however the final was fair. There's a mandatory DGD and a lot of course work in groups. Needs to choose better TAs. Only posts half PPTs online, so you better go to class. Overall, he is clear and knowledgeable & makes the class fun but you have to earn the grade!
Awesome prof! Exams are fair and cover exactly what was taught in class, but be sure to read the textbook as quite a few of his MC come from there. He tends to post incomplete slides, so you need to attend class to fill in the blanks. The individual project takes a lot of time, but if you put in the effort early on you'll do well!
Great dude, really entertaining class. His class requires work but nothing that is ridiculous. Favourite first year class.
You will have to read the textbook to pass the course. Difficult grader.
Tough grader. Requires a lot of reading. Exams are tough
You don't really need the textbook just focus on the lectures notes. Lectures are not very interesting and can be redundant. A lot of thing he said that is going to be on the test is actually not on the testsassignments. Doesn't give feedbacks on tests or assignment. You also need to put in a lot of time for those 20% for the DGDs!
You must attend class and you must do the readings esp. for MC questions. DGDs are mandatory - follow the case study marking scheme exactly! Ask the TA for help and hints because you'll need them. Will not accept ANY late assignments so be on time! Nonetheless, his lectures are GREAT and his expectations are clear. Very challenging but rewarding.
Start assignments WEEKS before it's due. Read chapters before class, study at least a week before exams, go to class and you'll do fine.
He is a tough grader. Do not choose him if you want to have a good mark.
its adm 2381, so its not an easy class. but you will do fine if you practice. remeber this class is the hardest at telfer. you must follow the guidelines.
The course is extremely strict and unfair. I do not find it is a true representation of what everyone would be expected in the workplace. The marking is extremely harsh with very little room and time for an extremely nervous presenter to be able to achieve. A month is a joke for someone to overcome their anxiety and perfect everything.
Best professor I've ever had, very passionate about this lectures witch helps you stay engaged. Its easy to fall behind in lectures so do your best to attend class instead on relying on the textbook
His toughness makes no logical sense. If something was due in class, and you are 5 min late he wont take it cause its late and needs proof. He lost a major assignment of mine and wants proof. How do you proof something you handed it? As a result i have done poorly in his class. AVOID. you dont want to risk your marks, time and hardwork!
He is a good prof but his TAs mark extremely harsh about the individual project and DGD mark and thus do not choose him if you want a good mark.
His test was quite hard, and he did not give students high marks at all
He is nice but all depends on the TA's grading. some u will pass easily with A, some TA are harsh and gives rarely any A or B
Avoid him..
Professor Archibald is very enthusiastic in his lectures. Coming from someone who has a hard time concentrating, it was hard to lose focus during his lectures. Great way to start off my first year at Telfer.
Archibald's lectures keep you focused in class. He posts incomplete slides on the blackboard, so you have to go to his lectures. I had 8:30 classes, but he still kept me awake, because of his engaging topics and his loud voice. His midterm was challenging and exam was tricky too. You need the textbook, he takes MCs from there.
Lectures are GREAT! He can really keep you engaged in his class. However, no matter how much you learn, you'll probably never do well in the class. Some TAs will give u easy As while some don't even give out Bs. Archibald doesn't really care tho, he doesn't care about your marks at all. Overall, great lecturer, but he REALLY doesn't care about you.
Matt is a very engaging prof, who encourages class participation. If you copy down the slides he presents in class, you will barely have to open your textbook for studying (just for MC).He is a VERY tough grader who expects incredible detail in answers. Interesting lectures, but tough exams where you basically need to memorize notes word for word.
Great lectures, as people said, he is enthusiastic about what he teaches and keeps students engaged. Tough marker, expects very detailed answers, make sure you know your stuff. MC is mainly from textbook, but long answers from lectures. Helpful in office hours. although he appears intimidating, he is friendly. Good luck with DGD groups!!
This guy is a good prof but he marks way too hard. Still like him tho, his lessons aren't that boring
Archibald is a really great lecturer. He makes the class entertaining and conveys the material clearly and in an engaging way. He really cares about the students and wants to learn peoples' names. His exams are hard but very doable. Just make sure you are detailed in your short answer responses as he graders those very harshly!
Great guy, manages to make a seemingly boring class into an interesting one. You really have to put in the work to succeed, but you're in university for a reason right? Recommend reading the textbook and adding to his lecture slides before the lecture occurs. And do not hand in your assignments late, not even a second late. Exams are fair.
Makes the lectures interesting and fun. Tough marker, don't skip class because you will miss a lot of key information
He's awesome. Beware of sitting in the front row(he's loud), he needs to learn how to turn off autoplay on Youtube, but other than that it was an great class that has really good information for anyone who wants to manage in any field. Archibald makes the information dynamic and he brought in a great guest speaker (didn't like the 2nd one but hey)
He's a great professor. Class is important because while he does posts slides (they are incomplete) he elaborates and mentions important information that will be on his exams. Pre-read the chapters, do the weekly Wiley (participation marks, so basically free %), and get started on the assignments early and you should get by okay.
He gives amazing lectures. The course is a bit tough for a first year class, but gives you an idea of what is to come, as well as a really solid base in a lot of subjects. The group case studies were not particularly difficult, though most got pretty bad grades on the first one. Take the feedback and you'll do great. He is very funny.
Presentations is not as scary as it sounds, follow the very specific criteria and you are golden.
Really nice guy, and gives helpful feedback on presentations!
Incredible guy, love his lectures but incredibly tough exams and papers
Awesome prof, cares about the students, their success and absolutely loves his job!
Matt Archibald was by far the highlight of my semester. He constantly had me excited to attend his class because he kept me engaged all the time. He's extremely knowledgable on what he teaches and genuinely cares about his students. On top of this, he is hilarious in his lectures. All in all great prof. Material isn't bad but tests are fairly tough
Really enthusiastic and passionate guy, cares about students & what he is teaching. Lectures are engaging and easy to follow. However, you're gonna have to come to class all the time to get notes, because he posts unfilled powerpoints. Favourite prof from first semester!!
Good lecturer, kind of goofy but keeps you intrigued. Study hard,
Super funny and caring guy. Lectures are engaging and his teaching skills makes the class quite enjoyable (also he's good looking!!). Don't buy the book, if you show up to class you won't need it! Exams are decently tough but their content is always clear. Also, I highly recommend showing up to class since he only provides empty slides.
Had him for ADM 1300, best professor out there. He's super passionate about what he teaches, dgd's arent too hard, quite fun actually and tests are rather straight forward. Great professor, great person!
Matt Archibald is a very hard marker for no particular reason, expects precision detail so study hard. Mid terms and exams are tough and the textbook must be thoroughly read to get a decent mark. Individual assignment was graded very hard as well as the DGD's. Overall, don't recommend
He's one great prof. Tho you need to pretty much memorized the slides. The DGD is graded harshly but reasonably. Got an A+ on the individual project and didn't put a lot of effort into it. Overall a good course. If you put somewhat of an effort. An A- is guaranteed
He is a great professor in general, good teacher and very inspirational. However, from my personal experience: hand in the assignment ON TIME!!! I lost 25% marks just for handing in late for like 5 minutes after the class started. But I kinda did it to myself I can't complain, just warning u guys he takes it seriously. like it was damn 25 marks!!!
I just finished the 7 hour Saturday lecture and I cannot express how much of a colossal waste of time it is. He took 7 hours to teach a maximum of 3 hours worth of content(mostly not related!). He clearly loves presenting and himself so much that he enjoys wasting my time and money to talk about pointless and obvious things for hours on end! GRR
Amazing prof, if you have a chance to be in his class - TAKE IT! He cares about his students, is actually funny, and relatable. Teaches very well. Beware of midterms, really big questions out of 20 marks each so you need to be very specific. Easy final, but need to study the textbook, not just the slides. DGD's are mandatory.
hes just a lecturer. he didnt get his qualification for being a Professor feelsbadman (
Prof Archibald was the best prof I have had all first year! He makes lectures very interactive and explains concepts using real life scenarios to make it easy to understand. His slideshows are easy to follow as well, however it is important to attend every lecture as completed slideshows are not posted on line. Textbook was referenced quite often.
He is a great professor. Explains the material in a very clear and enthusiastic matter. His class is very entertaining. Do go to class because class discussions end up being midterm questions. Midterms and Exams are not hard, you just really need to read the book and understand. DO NOT hand in your I.A late, even by a minute, that is 25% gone!
made morning classes interesting with his witty commentary and enthusiasm. midterms and final were fair but he's a tough grader. DGDs were fair but also marked toughly. Make sure you hand in the assignment on time. Coming to class is mandatory as he does not post slides on brightspace. the book was really useful for the individual assignment.
Honestly the worst class ever. He made the class unnecessarily hard. I actually thought about changing major after taking this class because I really thought working in business companies would be THIS ANAL. But most companies are not. That is, he needs to change ADM 2381. Immediately!!!!
It really, really depends on your TA. He taught you "the basics" in the first and only lecture on a Saturday morning, showed up once in a DGD and the final presentation. TAs more like locals since the students know and are good at casually talking, which can be easier than tons of research and memorization. Don't make yourself look like a nerd.
Best Professor. Genuinely cares, and puts an effort into having engaging lectures. His main courses are ADM1300 and 2381, and these are essential to success in business. You're learning how to communicate and present yourself in 2381, and you're learning business basics in 1300. These are not difficult, so make an effort and you'll do well.
Absolutely unreal professor. Definitely my favourite professor so far. He genuinely cares about his students and is always available for help when needed. I'm very much looking forward to having him again.
Absolutely the best prof I've ever had. Sincerely cares about his students. He especially loves if you participate in the class. I saw him a year later and he still knew me by name. Every chance I get, I am going to take him as a prof. Take him if you get the chance
After working for a bank as a summer intern and having to present to the executives. All of the uOttawa grad at the company told me not to follow anything I learn in this class during my presentation to the company's executives. They all said the material taught was "cringe worthy" and no one talks or "presents" like that. It was very much true.
He was often unorganized as we were so far behind in our lectures. The lectures are not fully posted online so you need to show up to class.
Good prof, but you only see him three times throughout the course: during the opening Saturday lecture, one of your DGDs and during the final. Be wary during the final, he's been watching student presentations all day so he's going to look a little bored. Don't worry it's not because of you!
Great teacher, clearly cares about his students and does all that he can to help us succeed. Brings in guest speakers to talk about real-world problems and situations. At one point he said that if he won the lottery he wasn't sure whether he would even quit teaching and I believe it.
I don't really have a whole lot of experience with him, other than seeing him in the introductory lecture, which was way too long btw, and in one of the DGD's where he offered pretty decent presentation feedback to some of the students. If you're taking business com., the TA is the person who you deal with the most. Mine was pretty nice :)
Class difficulty really depends on your TA and how good you are vs your classmates. It's a lot of work but it's not that hard. Just make sure you don't have any errors and practice at least 6hrs for each presentation. TA's are willing to answer all questions. If you put in 10hrs a week(memos & practice) and get over stage fright, you'll get min A-
This class is a LOT of work, but weeks shorter than normal classes. Set aside one day a week dedicated only to the assigned work. Practice the presentations and proof read memos. Definitely dependent on TA but they are students too so they are very understanding. The Saturday lecture was a nightmare. Archibald himself was nice and passionate
Mindtrust Leadership Development Program with a selection process to be admitted. It is obvious how much work Professor Archibald put into this course! It is extremely well structured and engaging. The 360-degree evaluation and coaching plan allow you to get an understanding of your strengths and weakness and how to polish your leadership skills.
Incredibly smart and he gives really great advice. Hes also really nice and super funny during the lecture!
Archibald is a great prof who really cares about his students. He is the most passionate prof I have ever had. The DGD groups are made for you, but if you work together it should be okay! Participate in class if you can - get to know him as well.
Gives good lectures, is funny. Midterm/exam theory-heaving (learning terms by heart).
Would take this professor again, but not the class. I'm a fourth year student, studied really hard for the first midterm and managed to get a C+ on it. It is a tough class if you're not good at memorizing. However, the prof is passionate, gives great lectures and is funny.
Nobody is born to be good at doing presentations, which is why we need more time and instructions. But the prof just gave us a super long lecture on Saturday and then left all the work to TAs. In my opinion, this is possibly the most meaningless and time-consuming class in a person's entire university life.
Absolutely terrible prof, if you're doing communications you're stuck with him but he is a nightmare to deal with. I was chasing him around just to get feedback, would routinel tell me to come in at x time and then wait an hour outside his office Also doesn't keep his promises The class itself only teaches you how to present like a robot.
Prof Archibald is the best for ADM1300. His midterm and final was extremely easy and straightforward. The individual assignment is brutal, the TAs marked extremely harsh. He does not post the slides so do not skip. He loves teaching and it shows. It is my favourite class so far.
Prof Archibald really demonstrated his public speaking skills on Saturday's lecture. However, the DGDs were really tough and time-consuming. Generally, this course's original goal is to improve your public speaking skills, but the strict grading system and numerous restricts make the course impossible to follow. You'd better pray to have a good TA
All the comments on this course are real, the class has very strict grading standards and one mistake can cause huge deduction in your mark. I do not recommend taking this course when your other classes are busy enough, and you should lower your expectations even you put 100% effort in the class. TA is crucial since the evaluation is so subjective.
He explains things clearly in class, but the materials covered in exams are broad - highly recommended to read the textbook extensively apart from his slides to score well. Take note of what the external speakers talk about as well as his in-class examples because they will come out on exams.
This course should open the option for rating TAs since they are the ones who give us the feedback and everything else. This prof is completely useless because he only showed up in DGDs once and taught us the course material on Saturday for 7 hours!!!! Why do school even open this course? So confusing.
The prof is natural when it comes to presentation as you can tell from his 7-hour presentation(Since I believe no prof can keep talking for that long without drinking water, but he did it). But the DGDs are really awkward since it is TA who gives you the feedback instead of him. Even with the feedback, it is hard to improve in such a short time.
Professor doesn't teach the class. Graded by TAs. Presentations are designed to be rote 5 minute lack lustre regurgitation.
The prof always looked like that he was very busy and he didn't want to waste his time on students. Presentations were a joke since you would repeat yourself once you learnt what kind of stuff you need to say to get a high mark. TAs were either super nice or super picky. Just get over it and never retake even the grade is not very decent. Bad class
Book is always your professor, and TA is the god.
The prof only shows up in the 7-hour lecture, which is a great way to waste your life. The class teaches you nothing but how to become an Oscar performer. Telfer should really consider moving this course to the theatre faculty and rename it as "Professional Acting Skills." I recommend watching every Oscar best actor/actress clips before taking it.
"this is the best class you'll ever take in your university years" UM NOT!!!!!! This guy and his bureaucracy portrayed business in such a negative way. I re-considered and pivoted to a different industry where i can be myself. Because if there's anything i learnt from him, it is that wearing suits and following rules are not where i can be happy
This prof is the very definition of a glib salesman, which is why marketing students should learn from him. The prof keeps indoctrinating students the idea that the course will be useful in the future. However, the course content is pure magic realism, zero flexibility and strict criteria. I feel like taking a course on how to do comedy monologue.
This prof is extremely bureaucratic, which means that many of his answers are very standard and predictable with little from himself. The DGDs are really painful since you have to sit there for more than two hours to listen to others' presentations, and you can't even leave when you finish yours. it teaches me nothing except how awkward ppl can be.
He represents everything I dislike about business and finance. He taught me nothing except I cant be myself or have individual creativity in the business world. He's the reason why I switched to another program.
This guy is the ultimate representation of what a stereotypical business person can look like: clean suit, ability to trick people into believing he is the good guy and full of bureaucratic behaviours. I am not surprised about all of the things above since he is the type of person that I will meet when I go to the workplace.
Matt seems to love the sound of his own voice. ADM 2381 was just awkward and painful.
not bad
Attended every single class and DGD, got a 3/10 for participation for no reason. Exams are hard, really tough grader. Classes won't be recorded and DGD are mandatory. He teaches nothing about how to run a business in detail, but we must buy an online golf simulation practice (20%of the grade). If you didn't do well, you will receive a bad grade.
Heavy workload but pretty easy to do well in the class if you put in the effort. His lecture style made it very easy to attend 8:30AM classes! I really like him and he's also very helpful outside of class. Do the chapter readings as some of it isn't covered during class. Grading was all very fair and final exam was pretty easy if u attended class
This course is more or less run by whoever you get as a TA, you only see the prof 3 times in the semester, once for the one and only lecture, again during one of the DGDs, and finally during your last presentation. Overall, although the grading is tough, it is also clear what is expected from you (assuming your TA is reasonable anyways).
1. TAs decide your score and different sections have huge differences. 2. If you can change your section, do so asap if the TA is not giving a reasonable score 3. Work more on disfluency and communication, not the content 4. Do not take it with Mimi, or any other Chinese TA, or all your efforts will go to waste (I'm Chinese myself, no race-related)
I'm gonna be controversial and say I actually like Archibald. His feedback is genuine and helpful, and he's always there to listen to any problems and is super accommodating and respectful to his students. As for 2381, it all depends on your TA and second how much hard work you put in.
Archibald is great guy and tries to accommodate the students the best he can, the midterms or "quizzes" are easy, but the mark you receive will depend on the group you are put in and the TA you are assigned. Unfortunately, my group happened to be absolutely horrendous & TA didn't comprehend that I had to strap my group to my shoulders and carry lol
Presentations is a hard class. But it needs to be!! Some of you have really bad presentation skills. Speaking as a professional, I now hate sitting through presentations with poor, boring & nervous presenters. This class hammers that out of you & makes you a more confident, interesting presenter. Suck it up and put in the work, you won't regret it
Honestly, I once never believed that a class about presentations could be so exceptionally strict and painful; ADM2381 proved that wrong. The professor does not even teach you many aspects about memos and presentations apart from a few memo samples and asynchronous videos. Furthermore, the rubrics and marking schemes were too strict. Not pleasant!
Great lecturer, interesting material, passionate & engaging. Fair evaluations. He'd get a 5 if it wasn't for my experience with the case study project - he barely prepared us for it, and don't even bother asking for help-he doesn't address your questions, and if he does, his response is garbage. Solid professor except for this specific experience.
This class online in the summer was a breeze. Lectures were supposed to be 3hrs but he cut them off at 1hr15. I didn't take a single note just did the discussion posts and polls for participation marks, got an A+ on the individual project after bs-ing it in two nights. Exam + midterms were open book, no studying necessary.
His lectures are interesting and very easy to follow. Minimal note taking required. You can read the textbook but I found it unnecessary and time consuming. Tests are open book and easy. Assignment was long but not harshly graded. Answers emails quickly and easy to talk to during office hours. Nice guy.
Everyone at Telfer warns you about how difficult and miserable this class is. It was difficult at first but the feedback you receive is clear. It's not about being the best in the class but about improving yourself. Honestly, a great class that helps build your communication skills and self-confidence but I do agree that it all depends on your TA.
Mr archibald is the rudest teacher i have ever had. He does not give a damn about his students and it seems like he is the most selfish person ever. This professor needs to work on himself and take a year off because he is utmost TERRIBLE.
I have had Professor Archibald many times and he is by far my favourite prof at University of Ottawa. He genuinely cares about his students, and if you participate even a small amount in class, he will take the time to get to know you if you put in the effort. Highly recommend him as a prof and a person.
Super nice guy. Made it clear he wanted to make business fun- which he did. Attendance was not taken during lectures but they were pretty useful (and interesting!). Can't wait to take him again. Textbook was useful, casebook was not so don't get it. DGD was mandatory and a lottt of work. TAs are a hit or miss.
It's not actually Archibald that makes the difference, it's your TA. TA marks all 5 term presentations and 3 memos, Archibald only attends the final. This should not be a difficult class at all, but you need to put the work in and rehearse LOTS to make sure you get a good grade. Online is easier than in person.
This was one of the most time-consuming classes I had so far. Do take into consideration the feedback that is given to you. If you apply the feedback, you will see an improvement in grades 100%. I was lucky to have a great TA: Camille Sigouin. If you have her, stay in her DGD. p.s. TinyStopwatch (on OS) was a life-saver for virtual presentations!
He is an all-around amazing prof. His lectures are entertaining even for dry subjects, and he cares about everyone's success. He is super accessible outside of class for any question. His tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention to lectures. TAs do a lot of the marking so pray you get a good one. He is a great prof for a first year class!
Prof Archibald wasn't bad. The final is worth 35% and it takes the full 3 hours, I forgot there was a long answer at the end so i missed 20 points but thats my fault. The main problem is the DGDs. My TA was Rodel and he was a tough grader. Most people got 60s for their first report/presentation and low 70s for the second one.
Honestly, I feel like a lot of reviews on here for Prof. Archibald don't do him justice. He was always very nice about answering questions when I stayed after class or sent him an email.s. I found all his assignments fair as well but from what I understand the TAs are a hit or miss (although mine was very good).
I had him for a ADM2381. He only taught us once, the rest was all TA. You will give a presentation every week. A memo every two weeks. TA will stick exactly to rubric while grading. Very good feedback (you will improve quickly). TA are hit or miss though. Won't have an issue making the presentations a day before!
I took it online, and TAs carry this course. He gave one long lecture, then for the rest of the course, the TA gave feedback to improve your writing and presentations over time. He attends the final presentations and *some* throughout the course, providing feedback. Course isn't a walk in the park, but some topics can be open ended and fun
Will fail if you are absent. Basically a research class that has presentations and memos attached to it. Grammar matters A LOT. Have one week to do research, prepare a presentation and maybe write a memo. There is one live memo. Done class 1 month earlier than other classes. Coming from someone who is not good at presentations, just try your best.
TAs do most of the grading. This class is definitely demanding, as you must prepare a presentation and sometimes memo every week. Take the comments you receive seriously and apply them to your presentations, and your grade should improve overtime (I hate/sucked at public speaking. I got a 63 on my first presentation but ended the class with an A!)
Professor Archibald is a good person but, the class so hard and even though all my efforts, I didn't get a good grade in the mid-term and the final. The group projects kinda saved my final grade
Professor Archibald made the lectures so fun, I was looking for them every week. The course materials are very dry, but if you read the textbook and participate in class activities they will be very easy to understand.
Very good prof, his lectures are entertaining and educational. Assignments are enjoyable.
He really cared about his students and made the class fun. PowerPoint's were posted on Brightspace but missing information. Exams were fair with multiple choice and essay style questions. There were DGDs with group case studies. Golf Stimulation was also a group project. Two textbooks and the golf stimulation needed to be purchased.
Amazing professor, would definitely take again. It is clear that he cares a lot about his students and about the content he is teaching. He responds very quickly to emails and is always willing to help. The class is DGD heavy with two group case studies and a golf simulation. His midterm and final were not that bad, and easy to study for.
Very underrated. I LOVE his lectures. They are absolutely amazing! In every lecture, he would interact with us and questions and he is very enthusiastic about the content. I actually wanted to go to class and participate. The midterm wasn't hard and he gave a lot of hints throughout the semester. A very good professor.
Tbh I was expecting more after reading about him, he makes his lectures entertaining and I looked forward to them, have questions he answers emails quickly and happy to talk after class. Hard marker on Praxar and dgd. no idea how he grades and no feedback is given. Takes a month to give back grades, does not give guide to folow/know what on exam
Great professor who genuinely cares about his students.
This is not an easy course. This is not a difficult course either. It takes a lot of time and practice makes perfect. My TA was superb too.
Not accessible after class. takes years to respond to emails. the TAs are very bad for this class. this class is supposed to be an easy one but it has been made hard by those TAs and mathew not caring at all.
I love this teacher! The only thing unfair and harder is team work, with the simulation is kinda difficult to get A+ and as well for the Dgd case studies. Try to get a good team, in general he made me love business and he gave us free hoddies at the end of the year. I would recommend.
Professor Archibald is a great mentor, and he has motivated me into self betterment. This course is not supposed to be easy, especially for students who have long struggled with presentation skills. I found that the course improved a skill set I thought I already had, and my TA made sure to specify areas of improvement, which I really appreciated.
He talks a lot during lectures. The notes he uses in class are never enough, you have to read the textbook and write your own notes
Great professor, very respectful of students and makes lectures fun! Would absolutely take another class with him again.
Archibald is a fantastic professor - the best one I had this semester. His lectures are interesting and engaging. He puts on a masterclass of how to talk to a crowd of people every lecture - it keeps people interested in the content, and learning. He goes at a great pace in lectures, students are graded over various things, and tests aren't hard.
This professor is amazing. His lectures are well structured and presented at a great pace. However, no lectures discussed in class or slides were put online. I know this increases attendance numbers, but for some of us who got sick or had an emergency, catching up is impossible unless you go around begging classmates for their notes.
Professor Archibald is an amazing professor! His lectures are really fun and he does them in a way that never gets boring. He responds to emails quickly and always does his best to make time in his schedule to meet with you if you want an appointment. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes if you can.
Great guy, and his lectures are well structured and engaging. I always looked up to his classes as they were amusing and I got to learn something new every class. He's very good at engaging students and ensuring that we all understand the course material. The DGDs are tough and grading is difficult (ADD LOTS OF DETAILS IN ASSIGNMENTS AND FINALS!)
Overall easy course, Professor Archibald has a lot of knowledge about business and always makes the classes enjoyable. Easy marker overall.
Overall, this course is very much driven by the TA's, however, the few mandatory lectures that the prof did were very easy to follow and he seems to have a good personality but can be blunt at times. The grading rubric is very specific so watch out for everything and listen to feedback as you are essentially trying to impress the same TA each week.
Speaks so slowly, hard time staying awake in this course. Everything is basic common sense that everyone should understand by the time they enter high school.
Professor Archibald makes lectures engaging and enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory, but the content and grading structure are manageable. Unstuckstudy AI proved helpful for studying.
Mr Belfort - I mean Archibald (Archie for short) was exceptional at this institution. As a crim major, I was fascinated by his praise of Jordon Belfort knowing of his criminal activity. Is Archie a crook??? Bring back the entrepreneur guy - "Sell me this clicker." Classic business haha. Watch out he might be the real Wolf of Parliament Hill.
Great professor, and responds to emails quickly. He is nice and caring, tries to make the class engaging. Midterm was easy, you can get a great mark if you go over your notes and listen in class. Attendance is not mandatory but his online notes miss information so you should go to get all the notes down.
hes so nice, caring, helpful and tries to make lectures fun. class is easy and simple just a midterm, exam, and maybe 2 or 3 small easy assignments. DGD is just group 2 case studies. attendance isnt mandatory but i suggest you go to class or get someone to take notes bc his online slides are missing info. u dont rlly need txtbok i just skim thru it
Prof Archibald is a nice guy and a great lecturer. This class only had 3 lectures by him and then the course was led by the TAs in a weekly DGD. Tbh your grade depends on whether your TA is a harsh marker or not. The weekly assignments are tough but you get many chances to improve your grade. However, Archibald is always willing to provide guidance
Best prof I had all semester. I never took a business class prior to university and found the class very easy. The DGD can be a nightmare if you get a bad group but easy class and Archibald is a legend.
You will only get 3 classes with prof Archibald and the rest is all DGDs. Absences are not tolerated in this class. The first presentations are VERY hard to get a good grade, but it gets better every week. I recommend checking the rubric (especially for times!) to succeed. The prof and TA are very understanding and accessible outside of class.
Bros awesome. He is a nice Prof, very clear and precise. He gives good lectures. Dgds r okay if you have a good group. TA's r okay. Mts and finals r easy if you study and take lecture notes.
He's a great prof and explains everything really well if you go to class and pay attention you won't have any difficulty with the course. The only downside is the assigned work is relatively difficult/ confusing.
Great. You only have one midterm, so make sure you study seriously for it. The exam was really simple and general. To make things easier for yourself, use examples to remember. Make sure to attend his classes since you will need to type because his slides are not complete.
Professor Archibald is a really good prof! I found the course to be dull and common sense but Archibald made it fun and interesting. Respects his students a lot and you can tell he cares.
very chill guy and easy to talk to, uses real-life examples and engages with the class well where everyone likes to participate in ideas
Professor Archibald is a legend. He is the Mr. Telfer. Definitely a class worth taking with him - a very caring, inspirational, respected and funny dude. There is so much more I could learn from him.
This course isn't as dependent on the professor as it is for the TA that you have for your specific dgd, but professor Archibald during the first few weeks and for the final was solid teaching the material and giving feedback for the presentations and marking.
Lecture is DGD-based and is more TA-dependent if anything. The course work is heavy but manageable. Archibald is a great professor during the first few weeks of the course when you do have him.
The content of the course was average but prof made it more engaging and easy to understand by using live examples. You will have to show up to class to take notes because the slides are incomplete. Aside from that, easily one of the better classes I have taken thus far.
Archibald is pretty chill dude. Attendance for the DGDs is mandatory (25% of final grade), try to go to lectures just to know what's up. Group projects for DGDs are fine, lock in. Midterm and final are mostly applications instead of definitions, but straightforward and not hard. Easy A if you stay organized.
My TA was the goat, carried my final mark . Get a good TA and even if your group sucks, you're chilling.
Your final grade depends a lot on how good your TA is, since you mostly see the professor in the first 3 weeks. Each week is a new presentation, so the workload is high. Grading is very strict, making it tough at first, but you can improve week to week by applying TA feedback.
