This is a good professor. He outlines for you what you will have to do in the whole class, the syllabus is accurate. He encourages critical thinking in the class and open discussion. If you don't understand things he will help you. Everything he covers in class is on the tests, so you do have to show up. There's kind of a lot of papers to write.

I would recommend everyone to take this class. 3 writing assignments . exams are pretty simple. If you read the book you will def pass the class. Nothing too hard . He is very into is lectures . He provides worksheets that go with the days lecture , makes it easier to keep track.

Professor is interesting, passionate, and cares about students. He wants you to pass and is there for help. Tests are based on lectures and textbook readings, there isnt a a whole lot to read and you dont have to read it all. There are 4 tests, no midterm or final, the lowest test is dropped. Easy class, definitely recommend this professor

Amazing lectures! Hes super passionate and goes deep into important issues. Lots of classroom discussion not much hw other than studying the notes. 2 essays and exams are essay/ short answer. He gives straight forward study guide. Curses a lot but its the passion

This teacher was extremely understanding. He always added extra materials to the PowerPoint lectures to make the class laugh. His cocktail parties really help DO NOT MISS ONE! He gets to know his students pretty well.

Atkinson really cares about his students. He comes well prepared every class and expects for you to do the same. He provides outlines that will have all test material on it and helps with the lectures. He is humorous and knows how to capture the students attention. One of the best professors I've had so far!

professor Atkinson gives a lecture on every class but test days. His lectures are always loud and funny. Everything on tests comes right from the notes. Each chapter has a one page written homework assignment. Graded in class assignments are random so it's important to show up so you don't miss points. Graded attendance/ sign in sheet.

One of the funniest professors I have had! The tests are easy and are based off of the outlines he gives in class as well as his in-class review mixers. A few essays are required, but they're not difficult. If you don't learn well by listening it might be hard to pay attention; he rambles a lot in his lectures but they're still interesting!

Professor Atkinson is very energetic and teaches the class in an understandable and relatable way. He encourages group discussion and activities (don't worry, no group projects or anything like that). The exams are right from the book and outlines he gives in class. He even straight up gives answers to certain test questions in study guides.

Professor Atkinson is quite the POLSC teacher. He stays as neutral as possible when it comes to politics. He wants you to work for your grade so dont think about procrastinating. His tests are easy when you do come prepared. The lectures are amazing. Hes got a teaching preference unlike any other, and has great political humor.

Professor Atkinson lectures from start to finish so if you aren't a fan of a professor talking a lot you might not want to take him. He was very clear and made the material easy to learn. He gives helpful study guides and guided notes.

Never met a professor who wants you so succeed in their class as much as him. Honestly an easy A class. Let's you use cheat sheets for tests and helps fill out the study guides. Highly suggest taking this class!

An amazing professor I've taken him twice for different polsc classes. Wish he was teaching more classes passed both times with As. Honestly don't know how you could finish the class with any grade other than an A. Not saying he hands them out but the way he teaches makes it so easy to earn them.

If you're thinking about taking this online vs. in class then I'd recommend you take it online. There's about 8-9 hours of homework each week for 5 weeks which include chapter readings/quiz, chapter writing assignments and weekly discussions. It's not that much! Try to knock out this online class during the winter for your GEs for an easy A!

Dr. Atkinson is a cool dude. You can see the passion behind his lecturing style and you can tell he knows what he's talking about. I didn't do well because of my lack of studying, but if you do the study guides he gives out before each test and you know the material it's an easy A. Rarely are there group/in-class assignments.

My fav prof of all time! Such a genius, funny, and passionate too. He has my highest recommendation and I already miss this class. Used to not care about politics now I do. I promise he's the best will laugh and learn a lot. Tests are easy sometimes open note, lectures interesting, pls pay attention it's worth it for the grade and the experience!

Professor Atkinson will be the best professor I will ever have in my life even though I'm not even done with school. He teaches and speaks with tremendous passion, he will make sure to get you participating and he will help you easily understand big concepts. I am truly grateful to experience his class. He is at the level I strive want to achieve.

Dr. Atkinson is enthusiastic about politics and is willing to explain concepts in depth. Nice and an Easy A. Just review the study guide and look at his outlines and you should be able to pass the exams.

Amazing teacher. Tests are based off the lecture and he gives you notes to fill in. All test and quizzes are based on lecture notes and textbook. First 20 questions of the test are straight from the lecture packet. Allows 8.5x11 cheat sheet for the test. 5 online short essays were required. He lectures to the front of the class. Easy to talk to.

Professor Atkinson was awesome! For his summer course he made the weekly schedule crystal clear. One opinion survey, 3 quizzes, and two short essays. Ive had professors grade poorly bc of their own political beliefs but Professor Atkinson was extremely fair. If you do the work you will pass! Good luck !

15 quizzes@75 ea, 5 no-prep polls@25 ea, 5 writing exams (2 questions each/350 words or more)@200 pts each. Quizzes are simple if you do the reading. The writing all comes from the text. Read and you'll do well. I took as a 5-week summer class. Easy class, lots of great information to absorb. Great professor! Highly ecommend for GE fulfillment.

Professor Atkinson was great. He was so entertaining when he teaches that he made the subject of government cool for everybody. He never seems to slack off and is always prepared. Very engaging professor as well. You can talk to him about anything government or non government related and the conversation is funny.

Easy class to pass. 5 exams, Lowest will be dropped. Each exam will provide a cheat sheet to help studnets. Lectures are intriguing and entertain. Very fun professor. 2 essays and textbook reading does help for exams. Notes are easy to follow and are reflected on the exam. Highly recommend

He's one of those professors that engage when speaking and his lectures are never boring, tests are easy you just have to show up and make sure you fill out the outlines.

I took the online class in the winter intersession and would def recommend it! The textbook was interesting and easy to read. 15 chapters with a 75 point test for each, plus a couple of writing assignments a week. Very fair grader and responsive. I wish all GE's were this enjoyable

Cool teacher, talks a lot but hes very passionate. Easy homework. Go to class because he gives you the answer to the test. Makes you have 4 textbooks that we didnt really use.

Hes great! Theres quite a lot of work, 15quizzes, 10 writing ass., 5 discussions. However theyre not hard at all! & u can be honest & express your point of view for the discussions w/o him being biased! If you have the chance to take him do it u wont regret it! Theres no way u should fail or get a poor grade, if u do the work youll be fine!

Prof Atkinson is a great teacher Take him!! I have had him both at LBCC and CSULB and hes one of the best. Really interesting engaging lectures. Unlike most POSC professors hes unbiased and just wants his student to learn the political process. Hell keep you entertained and shouldnt be to hard to get an A

Fantastic Professor! A breath of fresh air, took him for FALL2020 and his class was fun. Two zoom meetings a week, and he speaks on relevant topics and will break down complicated government concepts, if you know nothing about the government this class is for you, no book, no final exam, in-class assignments happen so make sure not to miss class.

Professor Atkinson is a super funny amazing teacher. I hate politics, but he made learning fun. He hates when people are on their phone, but if you pay attention he is great. The class itself was super easy and straight forward.

I took POLYSCI for the winter term of 2021 online as asynchronous. Everything was clear and all the assignments were posted for the course from the beginning. It was only three quizzes (sometimes two), a post discussion , and an academic response to a podcast each week. Clear grading criteria, put in the work and it's an EASY A!!!

He is one of the best teachers I would recommend taking again. He makes political science fun and interesting.

This class was slight work. A textbook is needed. There is a guaranteed 25 question quiz every week, and it is open notes/open book (no way you should fail). Felt like there was not enough work for the class. Lectures are provided for each chapter. Make sure to actually do the work because it's honestly not that hard.

There are four "CA politics assignments" that consist of questions about other websites due each month. Fourteen "chapter quizzes" about each chapter in the textbook due every week. Eight 250 word "writing assignments" about other websites due every other week.

Very straight-forward class. Read the chapters and listen to the lectures and you'll ace the quizzes. Took this class over summer and it went by so fast I didn't even know it was done!

I loved this class. We only had one assignment to do each week, and the answers were given in the weekly lecture videos. I also felt like I learned a lot. Definitely take professor Atkinson if you have the chance! I hope to take more of his classes in the future. Easy A class for sure.

The asynchronous class I took perfectly followed the syllabus structure, & was very straight forward. Every week, there would be a textbook reading for the chapter of the week, followed by an interesting 20-60min video lecture & one assignment due every Sunday. Atkinson was very responsive by email & cared about the success of his students.

Honestly, the person under me hit the nail on the head it's def not a challenging class but does require just a little effort. Also, there are 50 questions (Higher stakes Quizzes) almost like his versions of the exam that are 500 points but it's just the questions from previous quizzes. Just do the work and you'll pass.

His class is easy, as long as you do the work you will pass. He only assigns two assignments each week and will offer a grace period for you to turn in the homework, if you need more time with no penalty. Honestly, if you are struggling and email him he will help you out. All he wants is for his students to pass and will let you know as well. 10/5.

Professor Atkinson was very helpful throughout the summer term. There were about six assignments each week; 3 quizzes(10-25 questions depending) and 3 writing assignments(based on word count). It felt like a lot especially since it was cramped into a 5 week course. The work isn't too difficult, you just need to read the readings provided each week.

Professor Atkinson is very caring and wants all his students to pass, you can very easily email him if you need something. He assigns 2 assignments and 1 quiz each week and will offer a grace period for you to turn it in with no penalty. A bit to read but nothing too heavy, so as long as you do the work, you'll pass.

This was my first ever college course and it was a really great course. The professor was understanding when it came to grading and allowed us to write loosely as long as it matched the prompt given. He gives really great feedback and only gives quizzes and writing assignments due on Friday at 11:59 pm. Great professor!

He provides weekly reading resources and makes his lectures around the reading, so if you do the reading you'll already understand his lectures. He uses easy to understand analogies to make difficult topics easier to understand and his grading criteria and weekly expectations are clearly shared. It was overall a great class and I enjoyed it.

Straightforward and easy. Weekly assignments consisting of a quiz(you can retake it for a better grade) based on his lectures of that week along with a writing assignment of 300 words or less. Lets you submit passed the deadline with no penalty. Great instructor and loves what he does. The best for POLISCI 1. Take him!

I took Professor Atkinson's class in the winter. He gave 2 quizzes and 1 writing assignment per week. The writing assignments were a minimum of 300-350 words. I enjoyed taking his class.

Weekly writing assignments abt 300 words that weren't even fully based off of research. Sometimes focused on the week's topic, and sometimes just your political opinion. Weekly quizzes (easy) since Political Science is a little challenging already. If you can do work on your own, this should be a breeze. He's a cool easy professor! Choose him!

Great professor, the week's expected assignments were very clear and easy to follow! The overall class was very easy to manage and comprehend.

Professor Atkinson takes a subject like an introductory Political Science class and makes it fun and interesting. Granted, many will take this as a general ed requirement and aren't ready for the nature of PoliSci and aren't prepared for the reading, but his papers are interesting and yes, he does interject humor into his writing. A great teacher!

POLSC 11- Writing assignments every week based on lectures and he let us take the final at home(500 words!). Very enthusiastic and didn't make class boring at all. I wouldn't take again because I'd feel anxious in the class since he tends to be loud. Besides that, amazing professor and learned many things about the philosophical aspect of politics.

His assignments were very direct and easy to do. He had the same assignments every week that did help me learn. The assignments were all extremely straightforward. He had assignments that were about things currently going on in the news which were helpful in keeping students up to date with news.

Took his winter course was very manageable! Appreciate the class and didn't feel like too much either. His notes are very detailed.

If you do the reading and do your best on the writing exercises, you will get a good grade. I would recommend his government class to anyone! I learned a lot and am grateful for the weekly e-mails he sends giving us updates on the current political news. He is awesome. 8 week course is the way to go!

Teaching style is straightforward, with clear explanations that make the material easy to understand. Responds to submissions and provides helpful feedback. As long as you put in a bit more effort than the bare minimum, you'll do well. Overall, it's a low-stress, opinion-based, and enjoyable class—definitely one worth taking again.

Professor Atkinson has by far in my favorite professor. His lectures were truly intriguing and informative. As long as you pay attention in the class and engage with his lectures I'm sure you'll do well in the class. 10/10 recommend.

I absolutely loved Prof. Atkinson's 8 week pol sci class. He's fun, intelligent, and extremely passionate. I'd recommend his class to anyone that actually want to engage with the subject and learn.

He has to be the most straight-forward political science on campus. His class is super easy as long as you read the modules and complete the quiz. The discussions are more-so up to "our own" interpretation of certain things, so there's no right or wrong answer most of the time. He allows a 48hr grace period for homework. Would take again.

He's an easy grader, offering detailed feedback on all written work. Each week alternated between a discussion post or paragraph assignment, plus a mini-quiz. He'd also do announcements connecting current news to course topics, making class topics more interesting!

Really simple straightforward class. 2 writing assignments and 2 multiple choice quizzes every week for the summer class. I rated a 4 because it's been almost 3 weeks and the class ended and he hasn't graded the last 4 writing assignments, but he graded the other 4 very easy. It's easy to get full credit.

TAKE THE CLASS YOU WILL PASS I took his class online during summer. He is literally the best, super easy to pass and the material is easy to understand. He is strict about the due dates BUT if you talk to him about why its late, he will be flexible. I ended with a 94

He has a lot of weekly reading that is used for all of the assignments. I really enjoyed his class because it wasn't very work-heavy, and there was enough information to learn more to expand your horizons. It was all very organized, and you didn't have to look anywhere else because he provided all you needed to succeed (no textbook!!).

Take his class!!! The assignments and quizzes are super easy. If you read the modules, you will find the answers for the quizzes and they aren't long at all. The midterm and final are also really easy! He allows a cheat sheet and tells you what's going to be on the test so it's really hard to fail. He also gives bunch of time to submit assignments.

This may be the easiest class I've ever taken. He gave me 100% on every assignment. You do one discussion or writing assignment every week, and a short 10 question quiz that are all straight forward, simple questions. You will not be stressed out EVER in this class. TAKE HIM IF YOU NEED THIS CLASS.

Although this was an online asynchronous class, I had a great time learning from him. The materials he provided and suggested all were enjoyable and accessible. However, there was lots of reading.

If you're not going to engage, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you are expecting PowerPoints lectures and multiple choice tests; this isn't the class for you. Professor Atkinson is an easy and straight forward grader, plus his lectures are very passionate. However, he wasn't able to teach to his full potential because others made it insufferable.
