Babblings on through most of class then expects us to somehow figure everything else. He likes to emphasize how we should struggle with the problems so we know how our students [all those enrolled in this class are math teachers] feel. I think it'd be more helpful if he explained the material so we could be better math teachers.
fair teacher
He is good at teaching. You have to do well in the final and his quizes. If you do the homework and practice for the final ( must do well in it) you should be fine.
He's great, come to class, do the work, and you might like it
Awesome teacher - the class is required, at least he makes it worthwhile.
In an era when professors are becoming obsolete, Dr. Auth is a great math teacher and an asset to the profession.
Kind of of a rambler at times, but funny and keeps my attention of the class. super cute in nerdy way.
He's a good professor but not in Calculus. His explanations and exams are simple but you will not be prepared for the final. Since the final is departmental, it is extremely difficult compared to his test.
Just be careful when you take his class. He always says "use these techniques" but never really shows the "techniques". His lectures are boring because he'll go off topic and blab about other things. BE CAREFUL! HIS TESTS ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE FINAL. IF you want to pass the final, take math with some other professor.
MY BEST PROFESSOR !
Wasn't worth it ... I didn't learn anything .. Ended up failing the final and got a D in his class :-/
great prof, highly recommended - makes the subject clear.
Makes the subject very easy to understand. Good proffessor, no complaints
He is a really, really good teacher. If you have him, you're really lucky. Makes learning math very easy and interesting. Yes, his tests are not like the final (which is why I got a B+) but I would take this professor again in a heartbeat. He's THAT good.
The hardest thing for me was the huge homeworks he would assign--and grade. I lost a big chunk of my grade because I couldn't do the homework.
Have had him for multiple math courses. All I can say is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Pretty good professor except he likes to talk about concepts instead of doing more examples. He will bore you to death with importance of some theories, why we should know it, and how we should visualize it. He doesnt do many examples but tests are pretty easy.
This Guy is the Best Professor I ever had at CCNY. I wish all my professors were like this guy.. If you really wanna learn Vector Calculus Take him. Highly Recommended.
Not clear with the grading process at all. You can be doing well in the class exams but your final grade will be pulled out of a hat. Almost non-existant outside of class. Won't keep you up to date with what you are doing. MY recommendation is that if you do have him, make sure YOU stay on top of him and how you are doing in the class.
Assignments are done online with examples that show the steps to follow, and exams are simple as long as students know the appropriate method to solve the problems. The professor is very helpful; during lectures he breaks down concepts into smaller pieces to digest and then he stays afterwards to address students' difficulties.
I wish this guy would explain more problems on the board and do a better review. This semester was a crowded class and this guy have 2 tutors come in to help us while we do group work one day out the week. I think this concept was the reason for my downfall in this class. I rather the teacher explain than depending on a group that dont know nothing
Very helpful professor. Does a lot of example problems on the board to ensure that we understand the material. Repeats questions asked by students to ensure everyone is made of aware of what is being clarified.
Do not take this professor. I repeat do not take this teacher. He is highly incoherent and expects the student to have been familiar with the material before the course has even begun. He also comes off very lazy in my estimation. One day is his lectures and the following day is for group study which is useless.
He is the worst. Do not take him. He is very laid back but when it comes to grading he's horrible. His tests only have 3 or 4 questions. If you get one wrong your DONE! He lectures one day and tutors come one day but they are NO HELP AT ALL!! Don't take him you'll regret it.
Would not recommend this guy at all. Hes a very confusing professor and his exams are stupid cause they are only 4 questions so if you mess up on one you are done. He didn't prepare us for the final at all, so avoid him.
The tests are fair and based on the easier problems in the book. The material covered is abstract and difficult to a degree. Cons: Homework that is 15% of grade was assigned before the material was covered in class, and the assignments are a drag to do, difficult and long, and you can't submit it later and it got discouraging quickly.
beyond disorganized. dont take
One of the BEST math teachers and I'm BAD at math! He makes sure we all understand the topic before moving on. He gave us a quiz once a week and they were 10% of our grade, if you studied the prior day's notes then you should be fine, he even drops the lowest quiz grade. Webassign helps too! He prepared us for the final, but you must study too!
He spends 90% of class time talking about "intuition" and then says "this isn't a intuition class, I just want to teach you how to solve problems." He's horrible, don't take him. He's really confusing and wastes time on irrelevant topics and doesn't do enough problems. Avoid him.

Sometimes I wonder if he should be a professor. He is really disorganized and cannot teach. His tests come out of nowhere. I'm not sure what he is teaching most of the time. I would NOT recommend him.
He's not for everybody. The way he teaches seemed to make everything harder for me at first, but by two or three days, I realized it was actually the easy way. He teaches so that you can really apply what he teaches to homework questions and tests. Really, really great teacher, but you have to show up and pay attention to appreciate him.
He looks like he is never prepared, he spends so much time on a student's question because he does not know what to teach next. Sometimes he doesn't even know what he is doing. He loses the students and himself. Do not take him.
Passed Auth's 19000 with a C but he SUCCEEDED IN PREPARING me for pre-calc which I am going to pass. You'll have to study on your own A LOT since he gives brief explanations and then youre on your own to complete worksheets (he doesn't collect it). He does not baby you, unless you ask him for assistance and his tests are straightforward as well.
Best Professor ever and he know what he have to do for class.
Number 1 Professor in City College
He gave only two test the whole semester. Basically if you failed one test, you were done. Auth's lectures are interesting, but the way he teaches the subject is very confusing at times. This is a tough class and I felt that he wanted to reduce the class size. I would choose another professor for this class instead of Auth.
This guy did not make it easy to pass his class. He is very unclear with the way he teaches and really confuses people. Not enough quality review of material is presented for such a difficult departmental final. Overall, he isn't very helpful. Take him at your own risk, His teaching style is weird. He isn't for everyone. Does not care if you fail.
If you don't practice the problems that he gives for homework, you will be left behind and complain about how hard the tests are. Make sure you understand the concepts and never miss the quizzes.
Absolute worse professor I have taken. He used this new book for Geometry, and there was not enough time to go through any of the material. He came unprepared many times. Final Exam and in class exams were really difficult. The Final exam was supposed to be 2 hours and 15 minutes and he only gave 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was absolutely terrible.
Prepare to self study because the examples he shows in class are too simple and they do not help on tests at all. Honestly, you can skip all the lectures and it won't make a difference. The key is do to his online homework (has tones of examples and step-by-step solutions), questions on exams are strait from there. BEWARE, almost no partial credit.
This is already a difficult class as it is. The guy knows what he's doing but is very dismissive of people and really doesn't care if you pass. The first test had 3 questions on it. I saw percentages so low that they were in the single digits. If you care about your GPA, RUN
His teaching style is just providing examples. Once you complete it along with him, it's onto the next example, and another example, and so on until the end of class. When you compare his examples from class to homework, the homework is like 15x harder. He doesn't try well enough to explain and just moves on too quickly. Just took a big L.
Follow what he teaches in the lectures, and do the homework he gives on your own, and you should be fine. He is very knowledgeable, although at times he might seem unorganized, but believe me he knows what he is doing, as long as you do what you gotta do.
Its a really hard class. He's speaking into a mic thats how big the class is. If it was a smaller setting things would be easier. Exams are very tough, only 4 question each with a lot of points.
I have always hated Calculus. But upon taking his class, the material started to get clear to me and interesting at the same time. I wouldn't say his lectures helped me fully, but the homework assignments really did the favor. The assignments were hard, and he puts in a lot of homework just so we can have practice with the topic.
Auth is one of the worst Math professors in CCNY by far. His lectures take place in a huge lecture room, where he would use a busted up mic. His tests are very difficult because they consists of 4-6 questions and if you get any wrong, it's difficult to get a higher grade. During lectures he would talk about how calculus would be used in other field
He gives interesting lectures and explains everything. the only bad thing is his quizzes that only have 4 to 6 questions and if you fail to one or two your grade falls rapidly
His tests are taken from web assign and although there are only 4-5 questions on each test, he gives lots of partial credit. Web assign helps a lot bc sometimes his explanations are a bit confusing. The only bad thing about him is that sometimes he rants about math but doesn't teach the subject (he provides examples)
This guy does try to help you pass the class. He is generous with partial credit and does respond with emails. Just do the web assign questions to study for his exams and when the final comes, study the department finals. He's aware calc is a hard course so his exam questions don't included any extreme hard questions.
If you can avoid taking Modern Geo, don't. Horrible professor. Promises things that will be on the test and doesn't put them on. Says others won't be on the test, puts them on test. Doesn't teach material well at all. Only 3 people got A's in the class.
He always takes time to help students to understand the material
He does not care if you fail. If you care about your GPA, this is not the professor you want. His lectures can literally put you to sleep because his teaching method isn't that effective and won't help on your final. 3 in-class exams, 4-6 questions. You can skip his lectures, put more time and effort to self-study, and it won't make any difference.
not the professor to get an A with. He will make you work extremely hard yet 201 isnt even difficult. u can skip lectures. He gives 3 exams 3-4 questions each. so if you get one wrong, beware of a C bc he is also a tough grader His final exams are v. difficult hw is all webassign and doesnt make review sheets. he expects you to know evertyhing
I really enjoyed Numerical Analysis. We had a quiz every week but the quizzes were easy if you kept up with the homework. His quizzes were questions from the homework. His exam was not hard either. You just needed to keep up with hw. His exams were open book and we were allowed to use the computer. Overall, a great class.
Homework was key for passing this class. Don't slack off. You keep up with hw and you will do great. Exams were based on hw and quizzes. Open book/computer.
He assigns hw every week, even though he doesn't collect them, do the homework. It is similar to the questions in the exam. He can't teach but the book was helpful. The key to passing is to read the book and do all the homework.
This teacher was great. However the class was too big and having to teach an important calc course is something you need one to one training for. A lot of kids were doing poorly on tests, a strong trig foundation can make the class too easy. Self study is key because you will fall asleep in his class.
Teaches calculus with theory, which is better than most professors in the school. You have to stay on top of the lessons and should be okay.
Weekly quizzes ( one question - it was exactly like the hw) Exams were questions from the hw. He provided us the codes for Matlab. It was a good class, just don't slack off. Hw is key for passing.
He is one of best math professors at ccny. His exams are the same as the homework and you only have to do 70% of the homework to get full credit. However, what he teaches you in the lectures and the exams are too easy compared to the departments final. To do good in the final you have to study a lot.
HE IS SUPER HOT AND SEXY. Teaches fairly well. Tests are straight from the homework problems. There is a lot of homework but its not that hard but DO IT
His lecture examples are too easy which makes the homeworks difficult. The homeworks require putting in a lot of study time but it is too time consuming with other classes in the way. As for his test, 4-6 questions, very hard to get a high grade even if you tried. Would not recommend!
hes not that bad as you may think. He gives full credit of hw if you do at least 70% . His tests are straight from web assign. And his final was easier that those department finals.
Thought he was ok until i received my final grade, i got a 68 on the first test, 84 on the second , 93 on the third, and 80 on the final yet this guy gave me a C+. He only counts half of your lowest grade (supposedly). His tests are slightly easier than departamental, but complete disregard and doesn't care about student development.
Bad lectures but easy class if you know the material. Only 3 exams with 5 questions each (skip 1). 1 final exam no quizzes.
I loved this professor. Although I only took a summer class with him, I can tell hes really cool. Hes incredibly clear to explain topics, is really chill and calmed and encourages independent work. Get ready to solve a lot of problems and take lots of quizzed though!
Just attend and pay attention to his lectures. He is very clear about each topic and does a lot of practice problem. Although homework is not mandatory, just do them please. His test questions are similar to the homework questions.
Let me just say this is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. He bombards you with so much unnecessary material to then just test you on 2% of it on the exam. He tells you "ABC will be on the exam" but proceeds to give you XYZ on the exam. EVERY SINGLE WEEK there is a stupid "HW" quiz that tests you on VeryLong weekend HW. Truly horrible.
He was a really good professor, he explained almost all concepts in class and worked through multiple examples, detailing all the steps. He doesn't take attendance, but the lectures are definitely important, and if you attend, you don't really have to read the textbook.
LOVED him and his class. You obviously have to put in the work but he helps and will get you there. He makes math make sense finally! I wish I could take him for every other math class. And he's good looking! WIN WIN
The way to pass is to keep doing the problems by yourself. If you have any questions, the professor replies back. The class is easy and the professor is cute hot
I had him for the winter class and the way to pass was to keep doing the webassign problems. His test/quiz questions are based off of the webassign problems. The good thing about him is that he replies back fast. Also he's hot
He's great! for sure would take him again. You gotta go to class but with lecture alone he makes math make sense. TAKE HIM! and he's cute to look at
he is not the best professor but he's lectures are pretty clear. The hw was online with o ver 40 problems but will help you for the quiz. We had a quizz every day and the final was pretty easy as well. I took the winter course and I passed .
He's way too theoretical. He get's stuck discussing the theory of problems and doesn't really do practical examples. The course is supposed to be programming heavy, but it's only about 10% of the course. I barely learned in the lectures and had to teach myself through the textbook. I wouldn't take him again.
Dont take him for calculus if u care about your GPA
Go to class! He's pretty clear in lecture and shows you easier ways to do problems than the book. He gave quizzes for extra credit. He relates the calc back to other fields a lot to keep it interesting. His midterms were all straightforward, but his final was tough. I had an A/A+ going into the final, and came out with a B+.
I took him for the winter semester and the only bad thing was that only the final counted to determine whether you passed or failed. His lectures helped a lot and made the quizzes easy because of them. His quizzes and tests are exactly the webassign problems so just practice doing those. The bonus part is that he's nerd hot/cute
I really liked his teaching method. He taught for a bit, then let us work on problems in groups and helped when needed. He seemed unapproachable to me at first, but after the course ended, he always greeted me when we saw each other on campus and he even remembered my name, which shocked me, especially since I have a hard name to remember. Good guy
The professor often goes on tangents when teaching about the topic at hand and rarely gets his point across (especially with the calc 3 portion of the class). Spent most of my time self learning. Be prepared for the final, your grade is in the class depends on it. And DO NOT expect a curve. Stay away if you are worried about your gpa.
Take this professor if you care about math and you really want to learn. Do the online assignments, attend the classes and do good in quizzes. You will be fine. Expect to do better in quizzes and his exams rather than in the Final exam. His exams are just his quizzes in more time given. I would definitely take him again!
He is not the best nor the worst so really up to you. He tends to go off topic almost every lecture and is tends to cramp up everything towards the end. His grading system is okay nothin special but be prepared to study stuff yourself or else youd be very confused with the way he teaches. If your choices are limited take him or else not.
Gives a lot of q's through mymathlab. Have to complete at least 2 sections by Monday to understand the topic and in order to pass the quizzes (2 Q'S, 10 MINS, 10 POINTS). If you are unable to do that, pretty much you will do bad. He just demonstrates how to solve the problem during the lectures, so you cant miss a class. Have to give it your all.
Prof. Auth is very passionate about numerical analysis. Keep in mind he doesn't curve much and your grade is mostly based on the final which included 8 questions (multiple parts a,b,c) and 1 computer question (also a,b,c). FYI, the quizzes are just for you. The biggest issue is a lack of time (only 75 min. for a midterm) and complexity of M328.
This mathematician is helpful, famous and nice. Make sure that you understand his lectures. You must look over your class notes and quizzes. According to this professor's syllabus, you must read the math textbook and do the suggested exercises from it. This helps you prepare for the exams. You will be fine.
If you are lacking genius's qualities or your gpa is low, don't take him. He is not easy.
Easygoing, respectful, good and helpful math teacher
He goes so fast, his exams are gpa killers. The weekly quizzes makes you feel like that's a 6 credit class. So much work for a 3 credit class. His expectations are not realistic. He expect you to know the materiel like he does, which is impossible since he has been teaching that class for years. Don't take him. Thank me later.
He doesn't curve, that's the bottom line. You go to his office hours and he spends with you maybe 60 seconds on a good day. There is not a single chair in his office which is a good indicator how much he wants you there. However, his expectations from you are high...
Very bad lecturer. Youd be better off teaching yourself numerical analysis. His approach to the subject is reprehensible. I dont understand how someone could be this bad at their job. It felt like he didnt care. Hes the type of professor to drive you away from mathematics.
His lecture was way too theoretical and abstract. I feel like that he was teaching graduate students, not undergraduate. Also, his exams and final were really tough and he never curve. No surprise that many of us failed his class. Pal, try to avoid him and thank me later.
I took his class as a minor course. Before taking his Numerical Analysis, I thought I was kind of loving mathematics. After taking his class, I changed my mind, not study math anymore. He is a professor, who will drive you away from mathematics. Furthermore, he doesn't care much about his students and he has no mercy.
I took the precalc winter class. He is very nice and I like the way he teaches BUT whether you pass or fail depends on the work you do after class. The winter session is very short and theres A LOT of material so if you dont study (almost) every day when you get home you may fail the exemption exam like me :)
Avoid this class if you can
Imagine taking a class that relies heavily on coding and having a professor who simply shows you code without explaining it and expects you to understand every component of the code. This is your class! It's a coding based class but he chooses to do abstract handwriting examples instead. Stay away unless you want to fail.
Classes went online this semester. He made our final worth 85%, no curve, has to be completed in 2 hours AT 8AM. STAY AWAY.
He is a great professor. The key is to study. This is a hard class and people really need to study. He is very nice and caring. If you can show your efforts and work, you will get a decent grade.
This math teacher is good and helpful. I am sure if you will do well on his class.
Auth is a intelligent guy for his own good. his class is quiz heavy. do the homework and you are set. you can tell he really wants us to pass but his class is definitely the hardest class Ive taken in this school. i do wish he focused even more on teaching us how to code and utilizing the code to solve more practical problems.
He is alright but he made us watch MIT videos and then do the problem. I get it he came back from surgery. But he needs to keep it up a notch. He needs to realize this is university and not homeschool. Overall its an okay experience quizzes are every day.
Pretty friendly and accessible outside of class. There are quizzes class and the midterms were fair. Self study
quiz every class, 3 exams, 1 final, no curve, hard grading.
Auth was a pretty nice guy tbh. It's obvious that online teaching has been difficult for him but he tried his best to accommodate as much as possible.
Calculus itself is hard and due to online learning it became tougher for a lot of students. The professor is barely available outside of class and grades on 3 tests. No extra credits and no curves. Do the problems from mymathlab and you can easily pass this class. All exam questions are from mymathlab.
The professor was really engaging and made sure his students understands the material. His tests are very fair.
I took him back in the Summer 2021 Semester for Math 34600. He is amazing and a very nice guy. He is always willing to help people. He always tries check the quiz answers that the students selected and willing to hear the quiz answers the students select is right and he is wrong so he can update and give students a higher grade.
He is really nice and teaches well.
Great professor! Easy to understand and does enough problems to prepare you for upcoming quizzes and exams. Do the practice problems in the textbook! He uses those questions to make the quizzes and exams.
He gives great lectures but u need to read the textbook and do the suggested hw textbook problems .Midterm and quiz q's very similar to textbook problems. The final was brutal so do good on midterms and quizzes. Attend class, read the sections and do as many problems as u can to do well. Weekly quizzes, drops 4 (20) midterms(20 each) final(40)
Matthew Auth is one of the rudest people I've met in my life he doesn't care about your well-being or if you pass the class or not. h is the type of professor who expects you to know math. he skips steps and doesn't teach at all he just goes over homework questions. he gives tests every week and an exam every month
Brutal just brutal you can't retake test and good luck if you struggle with math in his class
This subject is not hard...anyone who struggles with math or is expecting to actually learn in his class you're in for a surprise. He assigns QUIZZES EVERYDAY and practically forced us to pay for this application to do math homework. Sometimes we'd have quizzes on sections that weren't even taught or due yet. Constantly babbles/wastes time. AVOID!!
Great Professor; the subject is not hard and he's very clear about what he wants. QUIZZES ARE EVERYDAY but he makes it easy, just try to practice problems on WebAssign and textbook because he makes the quizzes and midterm based on textbook problems, other than that you'll be good. About lectures...he sometimes babbles so just be aware of that.
one of the worst professors, avoid him if you can you really dont learn anything he loves to insult us first week he was just insulting the students. if you struggle in math good luck because this guy dont care, he gives quizzes every single class and you can't make it up. he doesn't teach much he just talks and talks.
Well Goodluck in this class if your not good at math you will have a bad time he gives so little time for tests
When I asked him to send emails regarding when quizzes will be earlier he said he would and that he understood the fact that students needed more time to study, however, after a sending early emails a couple times he completely stopped. He continues to send emails at unprofessional times of day the night directly before the quiz anywhere from 9-11.
Belittled all of his students during the first week of classes by mentioning how we are all behind because we are taking this class and mentions that these topics are babyish and elementary. Often speaks in a mocking tone when mentioning questions or statements students have made in the past on the work. Inconsiderate of the less fortunate.
This teacher gives quizzes at the start of every class and 2/3 of the class leaves right after. He gives quizzes on homework that isnt due up until 3-4 days after. This teacher assigns many youtube videos which do all the teaching for him.
Matthew Auth challenges his students and makes them better mathematicians. He was a bit tough on his students when it came to the daily quizzes, but mostly, his quizzes resembled his midterms, which are similar to the final exam. Besides, most of his lectures he only reviews the HW questions and answers any question.
At first he told us that we were behind and belittled us. Quiz every single class
Just don't take him..
Proffeser Auth was one of the most genuine teachers I have had. Students say he insulted us but he gave the reality. If you work hard and want to do well you will. Started with no math experience. So i saw it as a way of staying humble and working hard. He encouraged us to always study math for an hour a day. Gave sample exams which helped a lot.
If you struggle with math, be prepared to teach yourself (no calculator rule). Quizzes in the beginning of class, late/absent you can't remake them. A lot of the time students leave after the quiz and don't stay for his lectures as he barely covers the topic. He always made comments about students taking 1900 and he only made it harder.
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS! I took his class and he was no help at all.I did everything I could to get math help but he was no help to me at all with the emails I sent him and phone calls I made to his office no response at all. He dose not teach much in class. He degrades the students in class saying we are not math ready. PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM !!!!
I recommend taking professor auth. He is much better than anyone else in the department. You have to put in a lot of work and you will pass. The grading policy is clear from day one.
I took his 8 am class. From day 1, I felt like he's very good at motivating others than teaching others. He gives a lot of partial credits and extra credits and attendance don't matter. I taught myself this whole sem and it was worth it.
Don't even take him. He gets off-topic a lot, and his notes are unclear.
Honestly Auth is not bad compared to the other math professors. Usually he gives everyone credit for a question on a quiz due to usual typos. He drops 4 lowest quiz grades and 2 hw grades. His teaching is adequate and gets the job done, just tells you what you need to know for the content, sometime goes on a tangent about STEM topics.
Professor Auth's class is challenging, but engaging if you're willing to put in the work. Use resources like the free textbook, study sessions, and tools like Unstuck study to succeed.
I had him twice a week for almost two hours, and didn't feel like he used those two hours effectively. Sometimes we would learn two lessons in one day and still have to take a quiz. Other times when we only learned one topic, it felt rushed and often left me to learn it again away from class. Beware, there is a quiz EVERY class!
The professor's lectures are unclear, inconsistently paced, and it's easy to get lost if you even glance away. You'll need to learn almost everything on your own or with friends, because his explanations rarely help. While you may be able to cheat on quizzes, the midterms are strictly monitored and nearly impossible to cheat on.
probably one of the best math profs i've seen. he does often go on tangents during lectures and you will end up having to self study, but that is the same for most other profs.his exams and quizzes are easy (from the textbook) and he is very nice with partial credit. final was okay and he did end up giving a lot of partial for it. drops 4 quizzes
Professor Auth is truly one of the best Calc professors I have ever had at CCNY mainly because he actually teaches a topic properly and gives corresponding examples to reinforce said topic. Also gives a good about of partial credit on exams Bottom line if you try in his class you should be fine.
Honestly I didn't do the best in his course as much as I wanted to, but all I can say is that he's lenient when it comes to exams and quizzes, and he gets straight to the point for what we need to know. only issue is that he can get stingy when it comes to exam regrades... would still recommend him
Matthew Auth is an amazing professor for Calculus II. His homework assignments are a little time consuming, but they are great practice for the midterms and final. His grading system is also very fair and allows your final exam grade to replace your lower midterm grades.
Very understandable and does problems on an iPad(much easier to see than a chalkboard). Can make a few mistakes while doing them so call them out because he sometimes doesn't notice. Homework can be challenging but helpful. Quizzes are easy compared to other profs so study for tests and especially the final if it's made by someone else.
The grading is straightforward, pretty lenient for things like quizzes/homework/midterms but they still matter. The final is worth a lot so be prepared. His lectures are good, pay attention and you'll understand the info but if you dont youll be lost. Textbook isn't needed but I suggest you get it online to do practice problems. I recommend him
Bad Professor He barely gives partial credit. Does not want to hear or know from anything insists its all math department policy. I failed all three midterms merely because some of my answers were incorrect and I didn't show any of my work when it was graded by ai. On the final I learnt my mistake and showed everything and was able to secure an A.
Do not take he is not clear in lectures, does not teach or explain well. Most of the class failed very harsh grader.
Professor is clearly not qualified to teach. Kept babbling not ever staying on topic. Class is a joke if you invest 5-10 hours a week you will pass the course only thing that matters is the final. Just make sure you have the right answer because it will be wrong.
Barely studied for this class, barely passed. If you self-studied, you'd be okay, but don't rely solely on the lectures. He only re-teaches the example problems in the textbook and goes over specific questions requested by students. Quizzes everyday aren't bad, they're a free grade. Always ask for partial credit, sometimes he makes mistakes.
You will be fine if you can manage to self study and stay on top of the textbook chapters before his lectures. In fact try to read ahead and practice textbook questions on your own well before you attend his lecture. Also, be sure to practice the previous department final papers bc they will appear different than what his in class exams look like.
Now, I am very bad at math so that could effect my rating. That being said, I can tell Auth has a real passion for math. But when I'm in this class, time slows down! He yaps a lot and most of it flew over my head. And the homework is a lot to do in one night! I honestly didn't enjoy the class. Auth is a good man but the class isn't for me.
not the best but not the worst...
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever
He's alright. Staying on top of work and self studying is very important for his class, and he's quite lenient more than others give him credit for. He's open to regrading specific questions on tests. Don't recommend his summer class though bc he wrote the final and it was 24 questions ( department final in regular sem is only ~10 w/ sub parts ).
Before you take this rating into evaluation, I did take him for a summer course, never taken one prior. Was not expecting it to be as fast-paced as it was, therefore causing me to fall behind quickly. He gives quizzes every day, his finals and midterms are worth most of the grade, lots of homework which isn't worth much but its helpful to learn.
Never in my life will I take a class with this man again. He is not a good teacher: he barely explains and doesn't make sure students understand the material. His midterms and final are worth almost the entire grade, while the daily quizzes and homework barely help. The whole class ended up with terrible averages because of his teaching.
Quizzes every day. You need to self study because he doesn't teach good. Hard class. MUST SELF STUDY!!!
While he does do quizzes every class, I feel like that is one of the main reasons why I was able to do so well in his class. He is a super nice professor, and his exams are not hard if you don't fall behind. His partial credit is super generous, and he truly wants you to do well. The quizzes are also easy as long as you do some textbook questions.
Quiz every time, partial credit avaliable, quiz is the attendance, weekly hw, explains content well, gives the "why" it works, questions easy to understand, out of class practice is highly suggested, uses online book, might finish lecture early, Do not fall behind!, might teach fast for some students, participation aint really required. Had worse!!
I took him over the summer for Calc I. His lectures in class are great, and he's available outside of class. The homework is really helpful for the tests, which are also not very difficult. He does give quizzes almost every class, so make sure you're not late. I just wish he had dropped a few quizzes, but otherwise, his grading policy is great.
Despite teaching very well, his quizzes and exam questions are really hard. His lectures are very organized, and he is available to answer any question you have. He encourages students to practice daily and go to tutoring. It feels like he does not understand that we students are not as smart and experienced as him.
He doesn't prepare you well for his test, and his tests are really hard. If you want to pass and learn calc i wouldnt suggest you take him. He also barely gives partial credit in test questions. He only teaches well for students with calc experience.
He is a smart guy and you could tell he is passionate about calc. The only problem is that his exams are really hard and he doesnt really give partial credit. But he will curve at the end and pass you as long as you study well and show effort in the class and final.
Tough grader. I feel like the exams were harder than a lot of stuff given for us to self study or do hw.
Self-study is the only way you pass this course. Thinking about it now, he is the definition of the type of teacher that you hear about in high school: "Oh, those college teachers don't care."
