This guy might know his art history, but he is scared of an audience-you might notice him trembling the first day you walk in, but don't worry... it's normal. You might want to ask him on the first day if he plans on teaching you what he's going to test you over... If he says yes, he's LYING!

Yeah, he's a little trembly at first, but keep in mind he's also a new teacher so he's pretty easy going and lenient. He's an easy A if you pay attention to his lectures and study the reviews. All in all he's a great teacher, and i highly recommend him!

I took this class thinking it would be an easy A, i mean its an art class! He made it so much more difficult and boring. His lectures were confusing, he never graded things on time, and he has a big problem with communication. I would not recommend him.

Possibly worst professor in teaching profession - He's constantly late or doesn't show at all but doesn't bother to post a class cancelled notice. When he does make it he's never prepared and takes forever to grade tests and assignments. His lectures are boring and monotone. Most painful class I've ever taken.

I mid-semester taking Mr. Backer's class online. He has graded probably 3 assignments since January even though we've continued to do 2 assignments a week plus other special projects for an upcoming research paper. It's very frustrating because you have no idea what his expectation is if he doesn't grade your assignments.

I read the reviews before taking Mr. Backer class and nothing is like most reviews said. Prof. Backer is an excellent teacher. I really enjoy his class because I like art history. He is nice and fair. If you work hard he will notice. He's cute!

Mr. Backer is a good teacher. I think the problem with everybody who thinks that he is horrible is because you may want to be handfed. This is COLLEGE. There isn't one class that should be taken as an easy A. Come to class, take notes, and study BEYOND the review and you will be fine. You're doing a great job Professor Backer!

He is very laid back and nice. The tests seemed to be pretty straight forward from lectures and powerpoints. One paper to do near the end of the semester that is not that hard. Basically, if you come to class and study the test reviews you should do fine.

You can make an A in Mr. Backer's class, for those of you who want a high grade. The tests are taken from lecture so take notes. The test reviews are online ahead of time so you can print them out and take them to class so you know what you need to focus on. Most of the assignments in the class lead up to the final project which is pretty easy.

This professor is fair and pretty much teaches straight out of the book only adding other works for insight or comparison. He keeps the class as interesting as possible, his assignments do require you to actually do a good deal of work. If you follow along in class discussions (take good notes)and review for the tests often you will easily do well.

The class itself can be pretty boring, just because we look at a powerpoint the entire time. But Backer is a really nice guy and he's super laid back. He grades fairly. You won't get points if you don't do the work. But he's not strict and he's a cool dude. Not the most fun class ever, but he's legit.

If you do the online quizzes and online discussions every week and get decent grades on the test and project you can easily get an A in this class. It is a very boring class since everything is straight from the book. Study the review he gives for the test and you will pass.

He seems a little nervous sometimes and always seems a little new to the place but other than that he is an excellent art history professor. He is generous with students opinions and I feel like I actually left the class not only with an A but an earned A.

He's a bit shy but really nice. He tries to make everyone feel like their opinion matters. The amount of work was pretty rough- but he is willing to let you turn things in late to make your grade better. He's really nice, but again, class has a heavy work load.

Extremely easy professor and class. It was boring at times but it is not hard to get an A. He is a very easy grader and there is absolutely no way you can not get an A in that class. As long as you do all of the work you'll pass. His final is not cumulative and he drops the lowest test grade and quiz grade. Definitely recommend him to everyone.

OMG! Let me warn you ahead of time do Not take this class this is the most hardest art class just to be a elective. The test are long essays short answers mutiple choice and you have this huge muesum project that you have to do on your own. Very time consuming! Way to much for a elective art class!

Took his Art History II class online during the first summer session. It's a TON of work--quiz, journal, and discussion entry for every chapter, plus research project, museum project and exams. If you're not an art major, there is an easier way to get your fine art credit. He is a good teacher though, and allows extra credit.

He was sooo nice! Really polite and I felt so bad that people ran him over a lot when he tried to lecture. He was really helpful, even let me turn something in 5 WEEKS late. The class was easy, just read the information and remember it. One of the easiest classes I've taken. He really knows his stuff! Take him, he's the nicest prof. I've had yet.

While the weekly assignments aren't too difficult, I found the tests to be brutal. Very limited time frame when taking the test. While you will learn a great deal about art history, I would not recommend this class unless it is required for your degree.

(Art Survey Prehistory to Gothic) Prof clearly enjoys the subject, seems happy teaching it. The museum project was ridiculously inconvenient but kind of cool I guess. Read the chapters! You will mostly learn about sculpture, painting, and architecture. Ask me what a flying buttress is, go on. Okay seriously though, you will learn so much.

I took this class online expecting it to be an easy elective class, but I was mistaken. He expects way too much work 2 quizzes, 1 Journal, 1 discussion and 2 replies weekly. Not to mention a 500 word essay and another 1200 word essay. His Tests suck though there was no midterm but I would not recommend this professor.

I don't like Art at all, but I chose this as my elective. Prof. Backer is extremely helpful, he is very clear on the assignments and gives excellent feedback on your essays and other work. He gives LOTS of opportunities for extra credit and the lectures were actually quite interesting. Would've made an A if I didn't blow off all the online quizzes.

His tests and quizzes are very specific so you need your text book, and I recommend you take notes over the chapters. There is a lot of reading involved and his assignments are very specific. The subject isn't the most interesting but if he says you making an effort, he'll acknowledge that. Research paper at the end if straight forward but long.
