This class was really easy, and he brought up current events to keep the subject relevant. If you do the homework, which is really simple, and show up to class, you'll ace it, no problem.
Easiest professor you will ever take. you get an A basically no matter what so much E.C. His lectured are very interesting. Take him if you can.
Amazing professor. Probably a genius. Lots of knowledge, fun to listen to.
This teacher is AMAZING! Even if you're not an astronomy nerd, he'll definitely make you one. Extremely intelligent, knows what he's talking about, the exams aren't difficult as long as you study and the material is interesting. Definitely take this prof!
Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. He is a Genius. His knowledge is off the wall. I swear his brain sources all his information he references. Its insane! Great class, it's easy but you LEARN A LOT! He is interesting to listen which makes class fun to go to! Take this teacher, you won't regret your decision.
Matt definitely keeps the class entertaining so you aren't going to get bored and hate physics in his course. Relates what is being taught to real world examples. The only down side to him is that once he does start teaching material relevant to hw and tests, he really takes off and flies through his lectures making it frustrating to keep up.
Dr. Bailey is definitely the easiest teacher I have had. I would strongly recommend him for that. However if you actually need to learn Physics, don't take him because he doesn't really teach the subject clearly. Much of the class was Obama-bashing and irrelevant information, but the tests were beyond easy and homework ends up being extra credit.
Bailey keeps the class interesting with random stories and tidbits of information you never thought you would learn. If you are taking astro it is very easy if you do the homework and read the book. Bailey is a genius i found myself going to lectures to just sit and listen to his ideas. Highly recommend him.
Bailey is a super intelligent, interesting guy and an entertaining lecturer. However, almost every class he would lecture about politics or other non-astronomical topics for the first 45 minutes. Then he would rush through his astronomy info, and I was completely lost. Go to every class, read every chapter, and do every homework if you want a B
He's a really nice guy, and he's understanding when it comes to your grade. I went to all of the classes and did the homework and I was fine. He doesn't take attendance every class, but he sometimes gives a quiz that counts for attendance. It just bothered me how he would get on his soap box and tell his political ideas before he started teaching.
Awesome Prof. He gives so many easy extra credit oppertunities that its honeslty impossible to do badly in the course. He goes through the notes extremely fast so its difficult to get it all down, but the tests are basically word-for-word from the homework and for quizzes he just has you put your name on a piece of paper and turn it in. Easy as
This class is soo boring! Its hard to learn because he talks about the weirdest things! even though it is pretty easy the tests can be a little hard at times. don't buy the book, its a waste of money!
Take this class! Dr. Bailey is a genius! Class is exciting and his upbeat demeanor makes the class fun. He starts the class with an interesting political update. Some students didn't like that but it was always true. The class is very easy if you pay attention. He is a genius,I've never seen a professor know so much off the top of his head!
I struggled with this course. I would suggest reading the material before class and taking a tape recorder to lecture with you. He talks EXTREMELY fast, and can sometimes ramble. The tests can catch you off guard, but he drops the lowest score with the average of your other three. He offers a lot of extra credit - do it!
Such a great professor!! He is super interesting, everything he talks about is intriguing. He offers a ton of extra-credit, and also drops the lowest test grade. Tests were very easy if you actually study; almost all questions are from the homework problems. He's also a genius. I was blown away by how smart he is! Great teaching style too!!
He starts off many classes with something like the Colbert Report which is awesome. The tests are literally the homework questions which I did not realize soon enough. He does give a fair amount of extra credit. The first week or two sucked but got better. He has a lot of insight and a refreshing personality. I napped in most classes, and did well.
His class is annoying. All he talks about are his viewpoints on Republicans and cell phones. And every story he tells you about his friends ends up with them dead. His class is easy because all of the tests are straight from the homework, but he just talks way to much about his own life and I can't seem to keep his nose in Astronomy.
This class is awesome. Bailey is super nice and he's really smart. Tests are super easy; most of the questions come straight from the homework. He's very passionate about the subject, and about all things really. He will usually start class with some current event about politics, or show a clip from the Colbert Report, but only for a few minutes.
Bailey is a real funny guy, who knows exactly what he's talking about when it comes to AST. His class is super easy if you go, pay attention, and do the work. DO THE LABS. ALL of them. you can't fail the class.
Super easy class. He can be unclear about the labs, but is more than willing to help you out. Do the extra credit labs. For the quizzes, he just gives out the answers, so don't miss them.
This class was an easy A. If you are looking to just get a core science done take this. The tests aren't that easy but with all the extra credit and hw assignments he offers you shouldn't get anything less than an A
Class is boring, he is constantly surrounded by other students before and after class due to the fact that there are 200+ of us in one class; there is no outside tutoring offered; extremely frustrating.
Very Helpful, You can't fail the class. The quizs aren't graded, Homework is easily graded, Labs are just participation. Exams are cuvred. You have to TRY to Get lower than C. Everyone I knew in the class had an A
Take him for Astronomy but DON'T TAKE HIS PHYSICS II CLASS! There is absolutely no organization to the lectures (which he flies through). HW due dates are rushed & 90% of the material on the HW is NOT covered in lecture. This material is very difficult to teach yourself, but you will have to! His grading scale is lax but you won't learn anything.
Matt is an awesome guy. Super down to earth and more than willing to help. He knows the material is tough and gives lots of leeway. Not the best teacher but very enthusiastic. Lectures were awesome. Practice exams are like the test. Very passable course.
Awesome teacher. Knows his stuff super well. loves teaching, and makes class interesting. In class quizes he gives you randomly. He gives you all the answers to the quizs, you just have to show up. tons of extra credit offered, that is easy to copy from a friend. TESTS ARE THE HOMEWORK QUESTIONS. labs take 20 min max Best class ive taken, no doubt
I hated this class. His tests are really easy, sure. So take him if that's all you care about. However, you won't really learn anything. He'll talk the entire time and you'll walk away clueless. Lectures were poorly organized, and he made tons of mistakes in examples. Online homework was way too difficult, so you pretty much have to Google answers.
Professor Bailey is a good teacher. Really loves the course explain it very well. For test study the homework assignments. You can do the homework assignments until you get them right, there are 4 test including final, he takes away your lowest test score and uses the average of the other three tests to replace it. Take him, its a good class.
Matthew stresses me out. The class is easy to pass and get a good grade if you do the work but his lectures are boring.
At first I really like the class and took all the notes. Then when the first exam came, all of the notes I took had nothing to do with what was on the exam. (Exams are 70% of your grade) they are really hard and lectures are scattered. I wouldn't recommend this class at all!
Matt Bailey spends 70 percent of the class talking about how screwed up the youth in our country is, and the other 30 percent talking about physics. HW and a quiz due about every week, which he pretty much gives you the answers to. His tests are not easy
Caution: The tests are extremely hard regardless if you spend hours studying your notes and homework. Do ALL of the exc, hw, show up to class and your grade will range between a B-A. His lectures are more interesting than the books itself. Don't get stressed by this class, it works out in the end in your favor. Easy Science A requirement
The class was really easy. Homework is from the text book and he usually gives you all the answers. The tests we from the homework. If you go to class then everything will be super easy. I really liked him as a teacher.
Dr. Bailey's AST. 109 is the class for you. If you study the practice quizzes on webaassign and show up to class for an evolution lecture, you will do fine. Rad dude with a cool attitude and he also gives extra credit for days. Take his class.
No surprise assignments, everything is explained in the syllabus (or pushed back further than the original due date). No math in Phys 100 which I thought was great. Very passionate about teaching. He explains the concepts very clearly if you go to his lectures. If you skip class, he gives random "attendance quizzes" which count towards quiz grade.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. The class is easy enough; most of the homework is on quizlet, random attendance quizzes, 4 tests, & take home labs. Although the class is insanely easy.. He completely ruins it! I took Physics to learn Physics.. Yet I was stuck hearing about his political views and why he is better than everyone else.
The professor is a great guy and pretty entertaining, however I do not recommend taking his class. He pushes everything back so it is hard to keep track of all his assignments and all of his test. He offers a lot of extra credit which is good, however his test are nothing like the study guides that he post online.
He is pretty rude but his class is super easy. Just turn in all the work and you will get an A. He offers a lot of extra credit. Class is not mandatory and tests are always curved. Easy class, I would take it.
I've taken his Phys and AST now and gotten over 100% in both. You have to be dumb or lazy to not get an A. People say don't take him because of his political views.. Thats dumb. Take him. Get an A. Show up to every class extra credit because quiz grades overall are on an 80% curve. I ended the 500 point class with about 55 points extra credit
A lot of people get upset over the politics of Dr. Bailey's class, but I never felt it was overbearing, or even distracting from the class. I felt like I learned a lot in the class, and can't wait to get into more advanced physics courses.
This professor talks kind of fast, but all the info on his tests is in the lectures and homework. I didn't take notes, just studied the homework and did the labs, and I got a B+. His test curves are huge. He's funny and makes the class fun.
This honestly would have been a great class if it weren't for the professor. He is condescending and he thinks that he knows everything and that we should too. His lectures are ridiculous and it wouldn't even be worth coming if he didn't give out free extra credit for the kids who actually show up. Tests are impossible too, at least there was e.c.
Dr. Bailey is overall well educated when it came to the subject matter. His lectures are a little scattered and confusing. If you go to class, do the extra credit labs, and study the homework for the tests you will do fine in this class. He also drops the lowest test score!
Easy class if you show up since he has a ton of pop quizzes. The lecture is short so it's nothing to worry about. The labs and homework are easy to complete. The tests are a little difficult but he gives study guides as well as extra credit options.
He is very reasonable and fair when it comes to tests and grading and mostly avoids making the class any harder than it needs to be. He makes his lecture fairly straightforward and engaging. He has a fairly affable personality, although he does infrequently mention his political beliefs at the start of class.
Although he does go off on tangents occasionally, I always look forward to going to class. He curves wonderfully, gives pop quizzes for attendance (sometimes double-credit if attendance is poor) and although sometimes I get close to falling asleep, he wakes you back up with a fascinating video or anecdote about himself. Oh, and brews great coffee.
Bailey is very scatterbrained. He will assign homework weekly, and then forget to collect it. The answers to the homework are all online, the study guides are nothing like the tests, and he randomly takes attendance points in lecture. His lecture slides are literally screenshots from Wikipedia, so paying attention in class is extremely hard.
Don't be scared to take this class if you've never taken physics. He mostly just talks about what he's interested in, like astronomy. All the homework and test questions are from the textbook. He's also pretty entertaining and clearly loves science. And he gives mass amounts of extra credit
If you actually want to learn astronomy do not take this class. He goes off into his little world in speeches that have nothing to do with Astronomy. There's no point in even going to lecture but he does random quizzes for attendance so you have to go. I bombed every test: 58, 59, 65, and 77 %. And that was after the extreme curve.
He grades on a generous curve. His love for the material is palpable. He talks a tough game at the start of the semester as far as due dates but he moved due dates for homework and labs back all the time. Not that it mattered, I turned in everything on time and did great on every test. Sometimes he goes off on bizarre tangents, but h awesome!
There was never a time when I was bored in his class. His lectures were great and I have learned so much because he was always saying something interesting. My mind was blown every class. The homework was super easy and so were the tests (gives study guides). There were participation/attendance quizzes at least once a week.
He is very intelligent, but his lectures are irrelevant to the tests. I would memorize his study guides and still scored poorly. I failed the first two tests, got a B the third test (by reading) and C on the final. I did all the mandatory and extra credit labs and somehow got a good grade. Go to class bc attendance is randomly taken for points.
Doc Bailey is incredibly passionate about his field and his job. He loves to teach and he loves to pull the wool off of your eyes. He has a very intelligent sense of humor and appreciates a good joke, He is one of the most real people among the faculty, and if you are eager to learn he will do absolutely everything he can to help you along.
He's a smart guy, but lectures are irrelevant to the tests. Random attendance checks though. I had to teach myself everything out of the textbook because tests are 70% of your grade. He's a nice guy though, and offers a lot of extra credit.
I took Phys 181 over the summer. His tests weren't that bad but he wasn't a great lecturer. Disorganized and many errors in examples. Homework was really challenging so live in the math center. Overall better than Bennum for physics. Included equations on the problem itself and expect a mix of easy and hard questions.
I thought astronomy would be a great class, I was wrong. His lectures have nothing to do with the tests because he does't go over any of the textbook material in class. All the tests are based on the homework, so why is it even worth it to come to class? Doesn't go over anything with us! This course was a waste of my time, and my money. :-(
Best physics professor ever. His lectures are kind of confusing at times and he doesn't do many in class examples. If you do the homework and the practice exams, you'll do great. His tests are pretty straightforward and he's very understanding when it comes to how difficult physics is. Definitely show up because he does random attendance checks.
This guy is very very smart and he's a good guy but when it comes to teaching a 109 class... It should not be harder than any of my other classes. This was my hardest class because the study guide doesn't help and neither do his lectures. He's actually really nice and funny but not a great professor for what was supposed to be an easier class.
DEFINITELY one of the best professors I have ever had. His teaching style is fantastic, his study guides are exactly like the tests (except a tad more difficult, which is greatly appreciated). Seriously, take his class. Do the homework and the study guides and you'll absolutely get an A.
Lectures consist of him babbling on about current topics that catch his interest, when he should be trying to explain the long chapters. He sometimes tries to flex in front of the class by scribbling down hard mathematical concepts on the board, most of which are contextually irrelevant.
Dr. Bailey is a huge astronomy nerd--he talks about current astronomical events and slips in scientific anecdotes in his lectures. That said: it's not clear exactly what he wants for exams. He gives study guides that don't correspond to the text well. Make flash cards, study WebAssign. This course isn't easy, but it's very manageable. His grade: B
Show up to class, do the hw & study guides to get the grade you want. He's an astronomy nerd, so he'll give you some super cool info about space & relates the topics you're learning in class to stuff you might actually care about. I hate physics, but I loved this professor. Knows how difficult physics can be, so he's very understanding and caring,
Great guy, so so teacher; however he gives his students every opportunity to do well. Test are very short but hard, but he does give you the benefit of the doubt when grading. I hate physics but I liked this class.
Lectures were kind of useless, you basically have to teach yourself everything out of the book. Speaking of which, DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK BEFORE CLASS STARTS, you have to buy access to the homework online and it includes the textbook. Most of your grade is tests, which he curves, and he offers lots of extra credit.
Going to his lectures are pretty much pointless he just rambles on about current things in astronomy that interest him. His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the test but sometimes he'll give extra credit to those who show up but only near the end of the semester. Study the book and homeworks and do ex credit and you'll be fine.
Never went to class. Failed 4/5 of exams, but he does a very generous curve. You can Google all homework assignments. Did ALL extra credit opportunities/mandatory labs. Somehow, ended up with an A. Take this class if you need a GPA boost, but you won't learn much.
You learn nothing in the lectures. He does not explain the material as if you know nothing. He does not teach, he talks about the material as if the class completely understands it rather than explain what any of it means.
lectures were damn near useless ,he needs to pace himself more often and talk a little bit more in depth before skipping to the next topic, but I don't blame him with the amount of chapters you have to go through. Read the book, buy chegg, work through problems and you will get an A. Please read the book if you want to pass, it's very important.
Bailey is a nice guy who is really passionate about astronomy! Although, there is almost no point attending lectures, he goes extremely fast and if you need time to process material , you will definitely need to use the book to be able to learn anything. Labs are pretty difficult, but he is very willing to help if you just ask!
He is an enthusiastic and fun lecturer. Stellar astronomy was a less serious and not too math heavy ( except for a few equations) class . What will be on the test usually corresponds more with the homework questions that are based on the readings than the lectures. the extra credit assignments were also very useful.
I seriously learned nothing from lectures. Don't even bother going and just read the book.
Great professor for those who really want to learn actual Physics in depth. I loved his lectures; he always brought it the most amazing proofs and discussed connections to advanced Physics with anyone interested. I still refer to my notes for other Physics classes. He did me a world of service by teaching a class as simple as 180 at a superb level.
Matt Bailey's lectures are very unclear and he is too fast paced when talking it is hard to keep up with what he is saying. His slides are mainly pictures and screenshots of wikipedia posts making it pointless to even try to take notes in class. He doesn't answer emails and doesn't prepare students for tests very well.
He is a smart person and has some cool stories, but the lectures themselves are not very helpful for the exams at all. He says himself that he expects the chapters to be already read before class and a lot of on-your-own studying must be done to get a good grade. The study reviews helped and he allows extensions on homework when necessary.
Yes a lot of people got A's and A- in his class. This is because of the crap load of extra credit he offers. Trust me, its not worth the stress. I failed my first 2 exams, got an A on the 3rd and a C on the final. I got an A- because of all the extra credit, but Bailey doesn't post the grades... so very stressful. Very informative teacher, but hard
Extremely dry lectures. However, the labs are super easy and he offers a lot of extra credit. I would avoid this class if you have the choice though. The only reason I took it was because all of the other natural science classes were full.
He is super nice and way too smart for his own good. So I almost feel bad saying that hes 'average'. the lectures are pointless. he goes through them way to quick. Hwk are long. tests are easy though. he gives you the formulas and numbers to plug and chug. but miss 4 questions, youre done. C. Read the book for sure. i know physics bc of the book.
Have you ever had a professor so bad, that you start planning your review in the first lecture? This man is what students have nightmares about. He doesn't actually teach. The class average on the second test was a 50% and he didn't curve it. He says he gives partial credit - he doesn't. He says he curves, but doesn't factor any scores below 60%.
This man is possibly the worst lecturer at the university. His lectures are so worthless and so much self learning is required in this class that they might as well offer this class online. If you want to learn about random astronomy facts instead of actual physics then this man is for you. If you're looking for a coherent professor look elsewhere.
Bailey told everyone up front that it would be a tough summer class. He provided excellent test reviews, but lectures were not very helpful. Overall, he's a great guy who is passionate about Physics, but you are going to have to do a lot of self learning. Be prepared to work, no handouts. From what I hear he's better than Bennum, if that helps.
The easiest class I have ever taken. He curves every single test and gives extra credit opportunities that can bring you a full letter grade up. There are 4 mandatory labs, but they are super easy. There are 4 test, and he drops the lowest test score. The final isn't cumulative. Trust me if you need a filler class take this class.
I went into physics II with a terrible attitude. I got a 78 on the first exam & missed a few hw's, before putting in just a little more effort & realizing that he really tries to set you up for success. He gives you the all the equations you need for each test problem, as long as you know how to plug everything in it's a snap. Quirky/fun guy too!
he says attendance is mandatory, but it's just a ploy to get students to attend his story telling. Which is what he does, tell stories. up until the final he will tell stories that do not pertain to any info on his exams. Do the homework, review the practice exams, but dont think you will get any good info in class, use youtube and the book.
TONS of extra credit, grades on a curve (highest score however many they missed, say two, everyone gets two free points taken off the end total of out of). Super smart but his lectures get off topic. Should honestly teach a climatology class
Professor Bailey does not know how to teach. He goes on and on about physics as if he is talking to his fellow physics instructors, not teaching his students. Is not easy to talk to and is rude to students when they ask for help or partial points. Also makes fun of students to others. Do not recommend. Also was almost never on time for lecture.
Physics is an incredibly tough subject to teach but professor bailey spent most of the time talking about un-related astronomy topics instead of the current material. He was also late to every exam because he would print the exams 5 minutes before class started.
For the love of god dont get this professor. All he does during lecture is just show off how good he is at physics, but doesnt explain how anything works. He has multiple choice tests, but you can only get credit if you show your work, even if you get the right answer. The average grade for his first exam was a 53%. Do not take his class.
I have never have taken a class where the science textbook is more entertaining and educational than the lectures, until I took this class. Bailey is the only fall/spring PHYS152 professor , so he is inescapable for most STEM students. He never actually does attendance pop quizzes. If you stay at home and read the book, you will learn and succeed.
Physics is generally a difficult subject matter. Bailey did pop quizzes for attendance, but it was only to boost your grade. Go to office hours after exams, he will give points back always!!! Look at his practice exams and you'll do fine.
He's a really nice and cool person but he's not that good of a teacher. Physics is a hard class in general so work outside of class is to be expected but since he doesn't teach that well you have to put more effort. Use the physics tutors, they're amazing. Gives partial credit back and will round you up if you show improvement and do homework.
Hes not great and kinda condescending. VERY fast-paced and rambling lectures. I would just read the book and do the homework (1 assignment/wk with 50 problem parts). Invest in Chegg. His tests and test prep suck (tests graded out of 10pts), but study and write down your work cause he gives (a surprising amount of) partial credit after the fact.
I concede that COVID-19 has made the transition online difficult; however, Dr. Bailey completely disappeared and had no online lectures. Before everything went online, his lectures, while entertaining, were unhelpful rambling. I was able to do well in his class, despite my conceptual understanding of physics being severely inadequate.
You are better off getting hit by a truck than attending lecture (if you want to learn). While he does make his expectations clear, he is extremely hard to follow in class. My advice would be to study the study guides for the exams, as they are fairly similar. The one good thing is he is willing to give back partial credit on exams.
Genuinely funny and lots of amazing stories. Multiple choice plug n chug tests, gives you the equation needed for each specific problem in the question, get partial credit on wrong answers with good work (my first test went up 8% with his partials). Curves homework grades. Easy A if you jump through his hoops, but A95% for him so do good on tests
he doesn't reply back to emails properly and even when he does the responses are very rude. he did not give us enough time to finish our exam and scheduled the exam out of class time. When asked if I could change the time of which I could take my exam I received a very harsh email. I would definitely NOT recommend anyone take this terrible class.
This class was supposed to be an intro to physics class, but the exam questions were very specific and difficult with the material we were given. With Covid he kind of phoned it in this semester, and did no zoom lectures or actually taught the class. Very condescending in emails and hard to get ahold of, and not accomodating with covid situations.
Class was almost completely asynchronous, felt like I was teaching myself physics. Very bad at communicating with students and was rarely available. Material wasnt too challenging but I got nothing out of this class but frustration.
Professor Bailey was a pretty nice professor. If you didn't understand something, then you can always ask him. It's just a lot of textbook readings and heavy-handed lectures, but if you don't mind the note-taking, it's not too bad. The tests never came as a shock and our "labs" were fairly easy assignments. He also offers extra credit.
Our first exam average was like 47%. No curve. When hes lecturing he starts talking about random stuff for 50 minutes. Doesnt prepare you for tests. He prepares you to fail. This is a 100 level physics class and he treats you like you are a physics major. We didnt know he would be our professor until like 3 days before the semester started
Matt Bailey is a great professor. His class is extremely easy, the tests aren't worth too much, the homework is in the textbook and there are quizlets for each chapter, and attendance isn't mandatory. He does lecture every class the whole class period, and sometimes talks about things that aren't relevant to class, but he is a nice and funny guy.
Worst professor ever. I took this class online and it was asynchronous. He said that because it was asynchronous, he had the right to plan his exam times whenever he wanted and it would get in the way of other classes or work. Exams weren't too bad and theres' only 15 questions if you take it in person. Good luck if you take him, though.
Honestly I was scared to take his class because he had such bad reviews but his course honestly wasnt that bad. He was willing to improve your grade such as giving your partial credit back on exams and extending the HW. If you did the HW and studied from the practice exams its easy. Its all multiple choice and he gives you equations.
His lectures are rarely about anything on the tests or homework. Talks about whatever he wants. Does not prepare you for tests at all. Do not take his class.
Matt Bailey is so so funny. I say attendance is mandatory because he says it is, but you can get away with not going. I honestly show up every week for his stories and his homework is so easy. So much extra credit that it can boost you a whole letter grade.
Lectures are essentially useless. Gets homework problems from one textbook but uses another textbook to teach, so essentially you have to read both. This man's lectures are a complete waste of time, and while he knows what he is talking about, he teaches to people as if the class is in a 800 level course.
Bailey is a terrible professor. Exams are hard but only 50% of the material on the practice exam is on the actual exam. Most people get 6-7/12 out of exams. You will have to study on your own time. Most formulas are hard to derive and physics is generally a hard subject. Do not take Bailey if you can't spend the time studying. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Matt is so bad at his job. He does not teach; you have to teach yourself the material. He insists that if you fail (which basically everyone does), then you don't put in enough work. It is impossible to prepare for his exams, and you argue for partial credit on every question, but he often won't give it to you.
He is such a poor professor its not even funny, you will actively lose knowledge being in his class than learning anything of physics. You would learn more having a bowling ball thrown at you and calculating the force it hit than anything he could tell you. Good luck if you have to take his class your gonna need it.
Matthew Bailey is a horrendous professor. He does not care about his students; he will just tell you that you have to study harder even if you're on the verge of a mental breakdown. You could jump out of the lecture hall, but he'd probably use it as a teachable moment to calculate the terminal velocity of your fall.
Show up. Do the hw. Be patient with yourself. You will do great. Prof gives the answers for the HW- automatic 20%. For exams, he gives a 30 question study guide (with worked solutions), for a 12 question test. Nothing unexpected is on the test, and the guides are much harder- they prepare you well. He gives part credit for MC exams and is funny.
I am typically a straight A student and struggled with this class. Bailey starts off the class letting you know that this class is hard, and harder over the summer. Taking other classes with this course will break you! If this is your first time taking Physics, be prepared to get at most a B. Lectures are useless. Be prepared to self study.
I drove fast every day hoping that I would crash into a tree. This man's lectures make you more confused than before you walked in to class. Nothing makes sense in his class. Moves from one board to another, to another just throwing up random equations from out of nowhere. Don't take it with him. MC exams are the only reason why I got a B.
This is the worst class I've ever taken in my life. He doesn't know how to teach and just repeats his own random thoughts. He'd always be late to exams. It doesn't matter if you go to class or you study on your own, your grade will barely change. In conclusion, I hope I develop memory loss so I can forget about this awful class.
I am traumatized by the amount of problems he said were "low hanging fruits" that I could not do. I walked into the exams every single day thinking I was on the right track but my grade showed otherwise. Lectures are very hypothetical and confusing. Unless you have time to learn physics every single day of the semester, do not take this class.
the only reason why i got an a is because i went to the tutoring center every day after lecture since day 1 + self studying. bailey clearly knows physics, he just sucks at teaching. ended up installing a fake virus on his computer during lecture because he just clicks around on the internet for physics stuff. you will want to drop his class.
I had to get private tutoring lessons for this class in order to get an A. Just to clear things up, only four people got an A-, and no one got an A. His grading scale is extremely titled to avoid giving out A's... an A- is 90-95. Bailey is the sweetest man but you will have to put in the work for the class in order to succeed. You have been warned.
Very sweet guy who's passionate about physics. His lectures are hard to follow, but if you read the textbook, you'll be fine. He's also super helpful during office hours.
This class is no walk in the park, but using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook and practice exams really helped me stay on top of the material. The lectures can be hit-or-miss, so be prepared to put in the work to teach yourself.
The first exam was difficult for a lot of students, but the professor is caring and understands this. He's not the best at teaching and goes through things very fast, but the exam structures are simple (based on hw/study guide, only mcq). Improve your score from your first exam since he will look at your overall performance, so just do your best!
Bailey was my summer physics professor. His lectures aren't good, he's a horrible communicator, and while he says he cares about his students, he doesn't at all. Over 75% of the class failed an exam that he said was easy. He spends most of his lectures going over material that isn't related at all or telling some story about his college experience.
Dr Bailey is basically if Santa taught Physics. He really cares for his students and gives stuff to improve grades (from lowering one of the tests' weight, doing a retest, allowing make up tests, and even allowing us to take home the last exam). I do want to mention that this class is pretty hard and it will take up most of your time for summer.
