Needs to learn English before he teaches! After you realize you can't understand a word he says, say hello to your new best friend(the book); 4 quizes (40%), midterm (20%), final (30%), research project (10%). Turns Law & Economics into hell! You'd rather take a tree as your prof. than him! Tests contain HIS version of the English Language!!

Because of Matt Baker I have learned more than I ever thought possible about Micro. Yes, his tests are very hard, and at times I would like to ship him off in that infamous crate - but in the end it'll be worth all the extra work you put in. Baker is fair when grading the exams. You're not a real economist until you take Baker!
Take him. Although he is not easy, he gives you ample opportunity to leave the class with an A. You just have to decide to work hard thats all. I ended up getting a B but that was my fault.plus, he is very relaxed.yea, take baker
This was not an easy class. However, by reading the book and doing all the problems and going over them, you will be prepared for his midterm and final. It will be hard, but he curves to make his grades fair.
Very clear, helpful, and passionate about what he teaches. He wants to spread what he knows to his students and see them succeed. Not grouchy or moody, very funny and down to earth. Fair tests, plenty of time to complete them, great teaching style in class, and fair amount of reading & HW. The eco dept. would get alot more MA's if he taught Eco-300
Great class! Baker gives very clear explanations and exams are easy.
Very funny guy, happy, content, clear, and pretty good looking for a single Prof! Exams are very fair, not easy, but not hard at all! Class is always interesting, you won't want to miss a lecture! He only gives A's to students which put in serious work and go out of their way for the class, so don't expect an easy A; but count on an amazing class!!
Take him, he is very helpful, loves to teach. His class is not easy, read the textbook and do the homework. He grades very fair, curves grades and if you work hard and put in effort you can leave with an A.
he's a nice and funny prof! His exams are not hard but not easy. If you study well do lots of excercises it's a piece of cake (too bad i didnt study much...) He curves too! Good clasS!
Matthew Baker is a God amongst mere mortals
He is the best! And the hottest! :-) Seriously, if you want to learn something, you have to take Baker!
Baker rocks, he teaches a great class. Very easy professor, no surprises on exams but you still learn statistics so fear not! Really funny, approachable and extremely fair guy. A tip for people taking baker, if he uses ALEKS, do the pie early, trust me the extra credit rocks! A+ Professor.
he is a charming professor ever, even my boyfriend said so. He is nice, so even if the course is not easy, it turns to be easy because of him.
Great professor. Covers material quickly but very clearly. Just beware--there's always that one "think for yourself" problem on his exams that can be tricky!
Expect to use your coconut in Prof. Hottie Baker?s class. Read the text! Smart guy with impressive CV. While he?s nice to all, don?t waste your time playing the damsel with statistics issues. His left hand sports the bling of a snagged man. Read the text!
Exceptional, one of the best at Hunter. He's interesting, informative and extremely fair. The work is challenging but he will make sure you learn as much of the material as you are capable of absorbing. I highly recommend him. He's also a pleasure to look at.
Wonderful professor! He enjoys teaching, and he treats students nice. Explain very clearly and patiently. He always shows his best in front of students (except one time, i saw him in the office with beard, but when he came to the classroom, he became charming again.) Amazing professor. Taking him.
Professor Baker was one of the most friendly and light hearted teachers I've ever had. Statistics can be boring but he tries to keep people entertained and offers plenty of extra credit. Simply the best at Hunter.
THIS PROF. ROCKS! SO HELPFUL AND HIS TEACHING METHOD IS VERY COMPREHENSIBLE! TAKE HIM!
Good professor, lectures are clear, exam mainly based on lectures, the class has hard concepts, but are made simple. ISBN-13:978-0-324-64508-8, ISBN-10:0-32464508-2
Great Professor. The subject is difficult but he taught it well. His exams are straightforward and he prepares you completely for them. If you have to opportunity to, take him!
This professor is absolutely great and funny. Makes confusing topics very easy to understand. gives plenty of examples, study guide before exam and extra credit. Will take again if have opportunity.
Statistics can be horrible, but he made it at least bearable. Funny and helpful. Best of all, he understands the time pressures on students. Highly recommended.
Very nice, entertaining professor. He breaks everything down for you. Gives plenty of examples. If you're having trouble, he'll help you. You can't get a degree in Economics at Hunter without taking Baker, it just wouldn't be right!
Prof. Baker is a really good professor. He does not make you remember formulas and his tests are straight from the review sheet, lecture slides, and homework. The tests are decent and he gives a huge curve usually about 10-15 points on every exam. He is definitely a must take prof! He also allows up to 8pts extra credit using Aleks!
Professor Baker is very nice. He lectures are detailed and he explains difficult material clearly. He doesn't take attendance but go to class, everything he tests on, he explains in class. He has a review session and gives practice exams which is pretty much the same format of the actual exam. Do homework and you should do well in this class
Not easy at all. Tests are not related to the homework. A lot of mistakes on the tests:25 mc questions. I did not have time to read all of the questions. Not easy at all. I do not agree that this was easy teacher. Statistics is hard and he made it horible.
This guy is the chillest of chill. You'll do some work, but this course could be ten times harder.
very understandable.
He is very nice, and very handsome! So much gentlemen ! Take him?
He's a great professor. The material is hard but he explains everything incredibly well. He's always willing to help if you don't understand a topic.
He is a great prof, he curves all the grades. He makes the material as understandable as possible. He gives a practice exam before the real exam. He gives 3 exams which consists of 25 MC questions. If you attend all his classes you wont need the book to pass. You get about 6 aleks HW problems and he gives you a chance for extra credit. Excellent!
Best Professor Ever!
This is the by far the most difficult statistics class. I think the professor tries but word of caution is practice exams are a lot easier than the questions on the actual exams. For the extra credit it is very difficult to get all 8 points. And I don't feel as if he teaches the more difficult problems that is on the actual exam. Good Luck!
He is one of the best Econ. Professors at Hunter! He curves the exams, also gives extra credit. Exams are not easy but if you read class notes, book and do the online hw you're fine.
Baker is a very relaxed professor. His homework policy is unlimited submissions which is awesome. (5 HWKs, very easy) Law&Eco is very different from your usual classes. 3 Exams, each worth 20%. Homework is 40%. He does curve exam scores. Extra credit was given as 2 points to your final course grade or replacing 1 low homework assignment score.
Professor Baker has definitely opened my mind to economics. I am an accounting major student and didn't think I would have been interested in economics. I am glad I enrolled in this class. I am learning so much!. Professor Baker is so cool. His lectures are available on line in case you miss a class.
Very nice professor and very helpful !! Exam is REALLY hard, but he will give curve grades.
Professor Baker is great. He made economics so interesting to me that I wished I would have chosen it as my minor. His tests are challenging though but he records all the classes and uploads them in blackboard.
Prof. Baker is genius. The course was difficult because it was different. It required you to focus on the lectures and what Baker said in class, which is different from the usual read textbook-ace exam sorta thing. The class was more listen to lectures then ace exams. Luckily enough, Baker records himself and uploads the lectures to BlackBoard.
Professor Baker is exactly what an economics professor should be: knowledgeable, engaging, and rigorous. He's perfect for majors. His class is mostly lecture, although he welcomes questions and participation. Your grade is 40% homework and 60% exams. Make sure to ace the homework, since the tests are no joke. Luckily, he does curve grades a little.
Incredibly supportive and vitally interested in students actually learning.
The goat! Best econ professor hands down. Do anything in your power to take baker.
Baker is a nice and cool professor. Hes respectful, willing to help and easily accessible outside of class. However, his exams are pretty tough. He definitely makes you study and learn the material otherwise doing well on his exams are slim. Overall a good professor.
Nice guy, chill, and cracks jokes sometimes. Super helpful, gives practice exams on a public Google doc w/ answers so everyone in class can view it and chat with each other for help. Curves grades, and one assignment was turned into pass/fail extra credit. Nicest professor you'll ever have. Doesn't mean you can slack off though. At least try.
Cares a lot about his students passing the class and doing well on the tests. Prepares you well for the tests and homeworks are helpful.
He posts the lecture slides and audio for every single class. He gives a ton of extra credit and curves your exam grades. It was my first time taking economics and it was so interesting with him. He explains something explicitly if anyone has a question. He's friendly person when its not related to classwork either. Gives extensions. Take him!
If Bakers an option for you, dont hesitate to choose him. Hes such a nice guy, just graded based on homework and tests, and most of the time, he lets the class out early. Like very early. Would definitely take again
Loved Baker! He really wants his student to do well. The homework that you get, you have unlimited attempts to get correct. The tests are fair and Baker does his best to prepare you for them. He provides his lecture slides and audio online and gives exam reviews. The topics could get boring but it's not hard to catch up if you find yourself behind.
Prof Baker tries to make the class interesting to students. Your whole grade is based on three multiple choice tests and he gave extra credit. He does a lot of reviewing and provides a practice test. The concepts can be hard to understand but he does his best to simplify them.
Prof Baker tries to make the class interesting to students. Your grade is based on three multiple choice tests and homework he does give extra credit. The homework is online and allows you to keep trying until you get the right answer. He does a lot of reviewing and provides a practice test.
Prof Baker is amazing! I wish more college professors were like him bc hes so nice and wants his students to succeed. He makes class enjoyable bc hes so funny and knows how to explain the topics. Tests are a little difficult but just study, go to class, attend reviews. Hw is on Sapling with unlimited attempts. Oh and he curves!
Baker is a wonderful professor super sweet and understanding, but the material is very hard to grasp. He does review but he actually expects you to know the concepts for the tests. The final isn't cumulative and was the easiest of the 3 exams. 25% of the grade is homework so that should help (expensive site though)

He is an amazing professor but the course work is terrible. The website for homework is expensive and it takes forever. If you want over a 95 on homework get ready to spend hours trying to figure it out. Tests are heavy and hard, but if you know the material it is possible to get a good grade. Grading is 75% for tests and 25% hw.
Great guy and prof. Have to study and work if you want to do well because there are some hard concepts. Very knowledgeable and experienced in the Econ field. Will answer questions well. Curves exams, and corrects bad questions. Homework is annoying on Cengage but her gives enough time to do it.
Take Professor Baker if he is an option. He was great during office hours and was really helpful during the pandemic and understood what we were going through. The tests can be challenging but he gave us a practice test before each exam that was super helpful.
Prof Baker is a true teacher in ECON. A huge array of experience, the class during the pandemic was chill. Very down to earth and really helps if you don't understand something. His tests are tough if you do not study or take advantage of the practice tests. His youtube videos are pretty funny. Just don't fall behind but if you do its curved!
The work was challenging yet engaging--Prof. Baker's expertise in economics makes the class really interesting and the material understandable. He prerecords lectures and also hosts reviews before every test which is incredibly helpful. If you do all of your work you should pass. He is always available during office hours and is my favorite prof!
Prof Baker gives a lot of extra credit and his work is not hard at all. As long as you do the homework and all the extra credit, its a straightforward class.
Professor Baker has great lectures. He gives practices tests and is very flexible. Although his class was in person he listened to the students concerns about covid and made the exams online. He provides you with a lot of extra credit as well to boost your grade (I did almost all the extra credit and my grade increased from a B to an A)
Actual GOAT professor. I only attended one lecture at the beginning of the semester and I still did well in the class. Homework and tests were done online on tophat which cost like 70 bucks. Honestly, amazing class, take it if required.
One of the best professors I've had. He cares for his students and wants to see them succeed. Exams, homework, etc. is done online. He is a very funny professor and very reliable, he never cancels class but that's okay. My lecture has 200 kids in it and attendance not mandatory. He records all lectures to help you study or if you were absent.
baker is really nice and funny and clearly a smart guy and is also very good at explaining econ (or at least i think so). lectures and the course are super structured and well-organized, major earth sign energy. he records all his lectures so attendance isn't mandatory (at least for eco 100). would recommend
Soooo easy tbh. He literally put up all the materials you need online. All the lectures are recorded. You just need to watch them to understand the content and then do minimal homework and take the online exams. Easy A. He also provides practice exams and textbook practice for extra credit.
Very nice man that makes the course relaxing to take. He literally makes everything so easy that even if you put the least amount of effort you could still get an A. Easy and short homework, just study for the easy exams. Attendance isn't mandatory and he puts up lecture recordings on YouTube. He makes the material very easy to learn.
Your grade is based on 3 exams, tophat homework assignments, and participation. Honestly, I think that he is overhyped. He often goes on rants during lectures and his exams are pretty hard. I got an A but so MUCH time was put into studying for this class. Chill guy but this class was surprisingly hard.
Probably my second favorite professor I've had. While I'm not/don't plan on majoring in economics he does make the experience enjoyable. Work is done on TopHat with a clear interface and instructions. While I wouldn't take this class again since it's not in my immediate plans, I would take him again.
very good professor overall. exams could be quite hard but his in-person exams aren't. explains everything in detail and is very fast when responding to emails. i'd take him for eco 100 and other eco class.
Professor Baker is an amazing professor with great enthusiasm towards his field of study and exciting lectures. He records his lectures so you can look over stuff you missed while in class. He cares about his students tremendously. Make sure to study the class material a lot because exams are a big part of your grade.
Make sure to attend some classes as attendance is random throughout the year. His lectures can be boring sometimes but as long as you read the textbook and do the extra credit, you should be good for all the tests. The in person tests are very short and simple. As long as you study the review sheet, you will do fairly good on the tests.
Matthew Baker is an amazing professor and extremely intelligent in his field! He's always mixing pop culture into his lessons and other activities to keep the class engaged. He gives practice exams for each test that are identical to the actual test, though sometimes tests cover material only grazed in lectures. Attendance is now graded. Curves!
Baker does helpful review sessions and supports students. He is always open to answering questions in a respectful, encouraging manner, as well as accepting feedback in lectures. Exams are worth a lot (75%). While practices and reviews are really helpful, some test questions are still more challenging. But with some effort, you can figure it out.
actually knows his stuff so well, lectures r super informative, make sure to go (but if u dont the lectures r recorded & posted on yt). hw is online. tests half in person half online. super funny. personally dont like econ & was just taking the class to fulfill a req, but if I did have to continue taking econ, I would love to have him again.
Prof Baker is a great professor! He definitely knows his stuff and will take the time to explain things thoroughly. Exams are half in-person and half online. The practice exams are really helpful but the exams are much harder in my opinion. As long as you review the lectures and complete the homework/ extra credit you will be fine!
This class is great! Professor Baker really provides a good course on Economics with easy to learn homework on Tophat.
Great person, class overall wasn't too bad. Lectures can be boring but attendance is done randomly so best to go. Posts practice exams and the real exams are similar. Pay attention to the slides with graphs (another reason to attend class) he explains them well and they WILL come up on the exam. Study early, listen to lectures & you will be fine.
Matthew is one of the best professors at Hunter. He is passionate, funny, and engaging. Attendance is randomly checked, there is a decent amount of homework, and there is also textbook questions and readings on tophat but it is extra credit. Tests are worth the majority of your grade BUT he curves it. Overall, inspiring and amazing professor.
This class is very lecture heavy but he is the most fair and understanding prof yet. He offered SO many extra credit assignments that would help bump up each test score depending on how much you did. would also give you points if you showed up and were able to sign into attendance. He gives you the freedom to apply yourself at a level that you want
clear and fair grading criteria. He's understanding, cares about what he's teaching, offers lots of extra credit on Tophat, hw assignments are assigned after each lecture which isn't a lot at all. Each exam is extremely similar to the practice exams! lectures were easy to follow & he's easy to talk to outside of class. overall would reccomend!
Prof Baker was an exceptional lecturer who tried to always capture the attention of all students. He was very courteous in his approach towards grading and truly wanted us to grasp the material and develop a passion regarding the field of economics. He's truly a gem of a instructor that future Economics students are lucky to have.
Really nice and understandable professor, his midterms and finals are basically the same as the reviews. He's easy to talk and reach to.
My favorite prof! Very funny and makes difficult things easy to understand. Posts all lectures on YT, so you can make it up if you missed. There are in-class and online components for each exam. For in-class, he gives prep. materials in advance, so it's easy to pass. For online, you can use whatever materials you want. Easy to pass class.
Professor Baker does a great job of making his lecture material engaging and understandable. He is also very lighthearted and funny. He is incredibly knowledgeable and loves mixing pop culture in the lecture material. Exams follow a half-in-person, half-online structure. Professor Baker is fair with the grading, and I couldn't recommend him enough.
He had us watch My Little Pony
one of the best professors at hunter. he is an absolute legend.
Professor Baker is a very understanding, caring and intelligent. His class is fairly simple, with there being 2 midterms and 1 final. They're easy enough if you study. His lectures does get a little dull at times, but he does do a good job at explaining things.Overall a great professor that can teach you many new things.
