Really boring class. Quiz every Friday. Three exams. HW is due every day on class. Also you get a couple of projects.
A nice guy but not that great of a teacher. He tries, but it's easy to get lost in the material. Gives weekly quizzes, two exams, two projects and homework due basically every class and a final. Just wish he had a better teaching method!
He is an interesting professor. Difficult to learn from his lectures, he spaces out a lot and forgets what he was doing. He's pretty quick during his lectures. The class was a more of a self-teach for me.
He is an unfair grader, and is not clear in his lectures. i would recommend no taking his class/
Do not take Bourque! He was spastic and all over the place during lectures. He gets nervous when you try to talk to him and ask him questions. He also has to be corrected multiple times in class by students and confuses himself. Online homework due every class, 3 tests, quizzes at the end of every week, and occasional projects. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
Avoid. There are easy calc professors and helpful ones, and he is neither. The class is exceptionally hard, he repeatedly had to reschedule things and make up for errors on exams and quizzes. He is helpful if you go to office hours, but class is all but useless.
Bourque obvious has knowledge of the field but has no idea how to translate this to a class. Very spastic and often forgets where he is going in lecture. He's usually willing to work with you in his office hours but going to class is basically pointless. Avoid if possible, if not good luck. Use khan academy.
Professor Borque is new this year but overall he is a decent professor. He makes him self available during office hours if you need any help. you have webassign assignments due a week after you learn the new material, 2-3 projects, weekly quizzes, 2 exams + cumulative final. Not bad at all. Just try.
Professor Bourque is new this year but overall he is a decent professor. He makes him self available during office hours if you need any help. you have online assignments due a week after you learn the new material, 2-3 projects, weekly quizzes, 2 exams + cumulative final. Not bad at all. Just try.
I never went to his office hours, but I heard that he is very helpful if you go. Weekly homework but it is super easy. Paid attention in class, even if sometimes he bores you. I would take him again.
Teaches fast and in depth and sometimes hard to follow. Lots of homework and class keeps you busy and the exams and projects are fairly complicated and not curved. His class is far from hard to pass, but it takes a lot of effort and focus and is easy to fall behind in. Work ethic will determine your grade. Easy to contact and talk to.
He's extremely smart, but doesn't translate his knowledge well during lectures. However, he's amazing one on one, amazing. His tests and quizzes are fairly easy, only if you understand the homework, though. I went into office hours which is why I did well in the course. Don't take this class if you're not willing to study and go in for help.
Honestly he's a bad teacher, but he's not a terrible teacher. He probably shouldn't be a teacher but I've had worst math teachers. Usual math teacher complaints, smart guy but terrible communication skills. Also very tough grader for small things. He's a nice guy and if you get stuck with him he's bearable
Bad teacher, nice guy. The type of guy who probably spends more time dealing with numbers than people
AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLE COST. Absolutely terrible teacher
What can I say, he's a bad teacher, you have to go to every single class because homework is due every single day. Quiz one or two times a week. Honestly if you get stuck with him drop the class and wait for a different professor
Good guy horrible teacher. I would never take again here's why, it's a really tough Calc course to get a good grade in, but it's not one of those classes that you learn a lot because he's a bad teacher. It's like I got a bad grade and I didn't learn anything why did I do that type of class
weekly quizzes daily hw cheat sheet allowed on final helpful during office hours
4 difficult quiz problems in 10 minutes. 1/3 of the class doesn't finish on time. Good luck. Talks too fast in class, can't keep up with his directions.
Just an all around bad teacher. This guy should probably be locked away in a room doing math, not communicating it with teenagers. Quizzes once a week, 3 test, and homework every single class. He is a terrible communicator
I was sad about all these bad reviews!!! I mean, he definitely isn't easy but he's a really nice guy. My first test I bombed but then went to go see him and got an A so he will do anything to help if you ask questions. He goes fast in class so if you're confused don't stay silent!!
He's very hard to follow, but when you finally get used to him everything comes easy. Gives quizzes every Thursday and his exams are okay.
Professor Bourque does go pretty quick because he assumes you know whats going on, but the point is for you to stop him and ask questions. Gives a fair amount of homework (but yes there is homework and it'll help your grade!) He always makes himself available for office hours, very helpful. Weekly quizzes, 2 exams, cumulative final which are fair.
hilariously awkward, decent but confusing lecturer. only about 2-3 hrs of hw a week which prepares you for the weekly quizzes. 3 exams, no quizzes on exam weeks. lots of helpful office hours. drops 2 lowest hw and quiz grades. cheat sheet on final. super nice guy too. he's confusing but being in class is still beneficial. overall not a hard class.
I'm not sure how he is for calc, but his stats class is a breeze. Weekly homework (unlimited attempts guaranteed 100%) and weekly quizzes that come directly from in class worksheet and homework every week. Definitely there to help whenever needed and is an understanding guy. Overall easy A if you go to class and do homework every week.
If you don't test well in math, don't take him. He is VERY nit-picky in his grading and there are quizzes every week. Pearson online homework program is a pain and makes you wanna rip your hair out. Nice guy, he's willing to help you if you go to office hours! If you want an easy A for a core class, take another prof.
Dr. Bourque is a nice guy and easy to talk to. He is disorganized and has bad handwriting. There were quizzes every Friday. Exams and quizzes were very similar to class worksheets. There are infinite tries on the online homework. I thought the class was easy because I took statistics in high school, but the final lowered my grade a lot.
Decent guy, bad teacher. He's not terrible, but he does not know how to communicate well. He has a tendency to solve parts of problems in his head and rush through it. Beware, he is highly disorganized. Don't expect to finish anything on time. ( good luck with what we got through attitude).
Professor Bourque is a nice guy, but not the best teacher. You can tell he's incredibly smart, however he doesn't communicate his thoughts well at all. He is very unorganized and if you aren't a strong mathematical thinker, this class will be extremely difficult. He's very helpful one on one and is pretty funny once you get past his awkwardness.
Dr. Bourque is an awesome teacher and his assessments are reasonable as long as you keep up with and review the WebAssign homework. He's very good at explaining examples and going through problems step-by-step. If you ever have a question he will go through it with you and never make you feel stupid. I highly recommend!
Dr. Bourque is literally the best math professor I have ever had- I used to be completely horrible at math but he makes it so understandable and he is so quirky and hilarious. I would take any class that he offered- his class is very fair. There are weekly quizzes on Friday which he definitely prepares you for and help very much for the exam.
Love Prof Bourque! His lectures are great, he doesn't test students to trick them, whatever he goes over in class appears on your quiz/exam, always willing to help if you don't understand. He has a great sarcastic sense of humor and if you study the material you can get a good grade.
Dr. Bourque is a great person. Very quirky and awkward, but he is very easy to talk to. Honestly though, he is a confusing professor, goes way too fast for a math class. The only reason I did well in his class is because I had taken calculus in high school, so don't take him if you find math very challenging.
Dr. Bourque can be a bit quirky, but he genuinely loves teaching this class and makes sure that everyone understands the material. His homework may be hard, but his tests are much easier. Go to his office hours if you are struggling! He explains everything every thoroughly. Also, he allows test corrections which can bump up your test grade.
He is very quirky, but honestly he is one of my favorite math professors that i have ever had. Sometimes lectures run a little quickly but if you speak up and ask questions, he answers them thoroughly. Great professor! I hope i have the opportunity to take him for future math courses.
Dr. Bourque is a great math professor. Sometimes he goes fast over the material, but will always take time to answer everybody's questions and is always available outside of class. He drops a couple quizzes, and allowed our class to do exam corrections to bring our grades up. He also allows some quizzes to be take home. WebAssign homework isn't bad
Oh, Matthew. A great guy. People call him quirky- its accurate- but he's genuinely kind. He's not quirky in an unrelateable way- he's excited about his work, and sometimes gets a little fast because of it. However, he always takes questions, pushes back tests if needed, and is helpful during office hours. From someone that hates math, he's not bad.
Prof Bourque is a bit quirky, but not in a bad way at all. He's passionate about the material and really wants you to succeed. Very accessible and has no problem pushing back tests or homework if he feels like the class needs more time with the material. Online homework is super easy.
Dont take him if you have never taken stats before
I've taken him for both calc 1 and stats 103 and personally loved him. He's definitely quirky, but does want you to do well. The class is comprised of homework (80% or better is 100% in the grade book), quizzes (top 7 count), exams, and a cumulative final. The final closely resembles previous class problems and exams. Just be sure to review!
Previous reviews said he was a pretty good teacher and he is a nice and approachable teacher, but his teaching style is a bit fast paced and disorganized. While pushing back quiz and test dates are usually a great thing, it was a recurring habit that unfortunately derailed the class schedule. A bit disappointed on how this class went this semester
Good teacher but he was always rushing through the material. Any stats class is going to be pretty difficult but what made this class especially hard was that the material on the tests and quizzes looked nothing like the homework which made it hard to study. Graded by almost weekly homework , 3 exams, and 1 cumulative final
He is super quirky, constantly mumbling and messing up hw questions or exam questions but overall he's a good professor who cares about everyone succeeding you could show up to this mans class in the last ten min and he will help you no questions asked genuinely a nice dude and he explains concepts pretty well
If I can take him again I totally will. He can be disorganized with lectures but he's super helpful in office hours and he'll will always help you. Exam study guides are super similar to the actual exam. 3 exams, weekly quizzes, and cumulative final
Prof Bourque is by far the best math professor I have taken, I strongly recommend him. You take 8 quizzes and he drops your lowest score, and his exams always have 5 extra credit points you can earn. He provides study guides and answer keys, and if you go to his office hours he will do whatever he can to help you succeed. He's also super funny!
I liked Dr. Bourque! He's pretty quirky and throws in some good jokes here and there. He's VERY accessible outside of class and always makes time for students which was really helpful. He can be jumbled during lectures, but he's extremely helpful during office hours or if you ask questions after class. I would def recommend him for Calc 1.
Matty B is the way to go. He is very caring and wants to help his students as much as possible. Exams are always easier than the review guides and the quizzes are very fair. Overall a great guy and I would definitely take him again.
Worst math teacher ever!!! Doesn't even teach, all we did was group work. I went into his office hours a lot and he was willing to help, but he made me more confused then I was when I walked in. I was actually very disappointed because he has amazing reviews. Tests are a lot harder than study guides. Don't take him!
Professor Bourque's class was fairly easy, especially since it was statistics. All homework was Web Assign, and corresponded to a specific chapter in the online textbook. About one homework assignment per week if that, not time consuming at all. He is a good teacher, and is very clear about tests and quizzes. About three tests, 10 quizzes, final.
Great teacher! Easy to lose track of what is happening. I was lost because he teaches to you in very quickly in Office Hours. Confusing but very clear once you ask questions. Do hw labs, study classworks, and previous quizzes, I have an A right but , i dont know how the rest of the class will end up
Amazing professor, tests were easy and reasonable , quizzes were fine as well, study for a reasonable amount of time and you should be fine
Certainly easier than many other professors, just give an appropriate effort and youll be fine
Does not teach in class and makes you do group work to teach yourself. Always late and does not explain answers clearly.
Matty B is a great math teacher! Hes a little awkward during lecture but he is beyond helpful during office hours and makes everything crystal clear. Gives us practice quizzes and tests with answer keys and the quizzes and tests are easy and reasonable. Hes also super approachable and understanding. He really listens to his students feedback.
All classwork is done in a groups which doesn't really help all different types of learners. Quizzes almost every week. Overall average teacher. You'll have to go to office hours to really understand the subject.
He is confusing and all over the place but this class is pretty straightforward. The quiz questions come from notes and classwork sheets. The exams are very similar to the quizzes and the review he posts. His quiz/exam questions for the most part are very fair. Overall, a good class and a decent professor.
Quizzes just about every week. Only take if you already know calc because his lectures are completely unhelpful
This class was so difficult for me. He is all over the place in lecture and hard to follow. I tried looking up help online and it was different ways than he taught, and office hours confused me even more. The material could have been easy to follow with a better professor. We had a sub one day, and I wished we had him all the time.
I was told that that biostats was going to be an easy class, but came to find out that it was easy with a different teacher. He would tell the two classes different information, was very disorganized and has no idea what's going on half the time. Chegg is your best friend!
This dude is awful, definitely dont take if you can avoid it, terrible grader as well
Prof Bourque's class is very interesting to say the least. He had a lot of typos in his answer keys & stuff but ultimately he is a really good guy. He doesn't take attendance but he does use WileyPlus for homework and as long as you do 75%, you get full credit. You get quizzed every week, but he gives a practice quizzes. Exams are straightforward!
If you can take any other professor I would. His "lectures" explain the bare minimum and he hates being asked questions about the homework. He said at the beginning of the semester that he hasn't taught M117 in awhile and he's learning along with us. That shoud've been my tell tale sign to get out of that class.
He is a super average professor. He gives about two assignments that are 15 problems a week. His lectures are extremely boring and the group work is meaningless. Three tests and the final. A quiz every week. He's not bad but he's just so average and boring that I have so little energy for his class.
Matthew is super caring and super awkward. He normally will go over a few things before putting everyone into groups to work. The groups were normally cameras off and muted. The quizzes and tests were open note except the final. He's super willing to help if you reach out. Homework was online. Not a super easy class.
Professor Bourque is a really funny and awkward guy. He has a few typos here and there and you can see that teaching online isnt really his specialty. A lot of group work but quizzes and exams are just like the practice ones he gives. Amazing guy but if you dont want to risk sitting in a quiet breakout room maybe take someone else.
I took this class online and there were so many technical difficulties that it was hard to get anywhere in class. The homework took a long time and was very tedious. An ok choice for a calc professor
he's a funny guy but his lectures go over really simple examples and the questions on the exams and quizzes are way harder than the ones on the practice exams. all of the homework is on wiley. has availability outside of class. he does curve some of the assessments if a lot of people didn't do well. really unclear expectations about participation.
I had to drop his class because his lectures are so unclear and confusing. The homework, quizzes, and tests look nothing alike. Maybe math with him was better online, but he makes you memorize all formulas and the tests are very rushed. Definitely better options
prof bourque is honestly very sincere... Ngl sometimes I have no clue what he's talking about and he does have a couple typos, but he is very patient and will answer any questions you have(just ask in class). We do WileyPlus, group work(not graded), and quizzes every friday. He is an easy grader and silly. good class minus the SI Sam, she sucks!
Professor Bourque is a very nice guy and very caring, but he does not teach very clearly. His lectures are different from the homework and the quizzes. He will teach one example of a problem and expects you to know how to do the entire worksheet. He has a lot of office hours and is always available to ask questions which is nice.
Prof Bourque is a very fun and caring teacher, but he tends to gloss over subjects with only one or two slides and expects you to know or understand. He is always happy to help but sometimes it's hard to understand his teachings. He usually leaves 30 mins for group work that isn't graded. Be ready to somewhat teach yourself the math.
Dr. Bourque genuinely cares about his students, he's kind and he's really smart. While he may not be the best public speaker, his charisma and passion for maths makes sitting in his lectures actually quite enjoyable. Don't be afraid to ask for help, he'll be more than willing to assist in any way possible.
It is not particularly a difficult class. But his lectures barely match the homework or the test material. He is a sweet guy, not strict, but his class has no organization and the tests are hard. Be ready to teach a lot of the material to yourself. If you do the homework and understand it, you should be okay;put effort and you will get a good grade
Good professor but hard to understand sometimes.
Professor Bourque is a nice guy, which is why it's hard to say anything bad about his class. But the hw/classwork doesn't always align with the tests/quizzes, which is VERY CONFUSING. There are quizzes almost every Friday which also sucks. But what's worse is that the quizzes/tests are pretty much your entire grade, so you better do well on them!
Dr.Bourque's lectures kind of suck if I have to be honest. His lectures slides also don't provide any examples on how to do homework or tests. Never replies to emails, but does have quite a few office hours during the week. He's very confusing to follow sometimes. Overall he's just not the best professor especially for people who struggle in math.
Its very clear he cares about his students! Theres multiple weekly Wiley assignments due with a quiz on the homework. The work load is semi heavy but manageable! 3 exams and he gives great feedback! Ask questions and go to office hours!! The class is goes at a steady pace, if you put in the work, youre sure to pass.
I had to drop his 118 class because I bombed the first exam. The classwork has no correlation with the homework or quizzes/exams. I taught myself most of the material through Wiley. SI barely knew what she was doing so that was not helpful. I have always been good at math, but found it difficult to do well in this class having no knowledge of calc.
Professor Bourque is a great professor. He sets up one on one meetings for credit to see how you are doing, credit is received on whether you show up or not. (Summer 2022) He was clear and understanding. Be aware the final exam is a lot of your grade though.
He's really kind and helpful with questions.
Dr. Bourque is a really great guy. However, he is probably not the best professor. Homework is due every Thursday, and is much harder than the notes. I understand that he wants us to be prepared to use the topics in the real world, but he makes it more confusing than it has to be. Not a bad option for 117.
If you go to his office hours, he will sit down for however long and easily break things down for you (he's very kind). Generous grader. But his lectures are awful, he doesn't teach at all. 80% of the class is group work with other people who are just as confused as you. No consistency between what's done in class and what's on exams.
He was kind, but he kind of was all over the place. He grades nicely but as the semester goes on the classwork becomes more difficult and he speeds through his lectures so we have to learn things on our own through Wileyplus. The TA tutoring sessions taught me more than him last semester. He does hold office hours that are helpful though
He is the best professor here. He is so nice and understanding and cares for his student's well-being, which is hard to find here. Please, I would recommend him so much
Professor Bourque was super nice and I really liked him. Read off PowerPoints and sometimes messed up his practice problems but could still get his points across. Be prepared to go back over his slides multiple times to understand the concepts. Homework can sometimes be really hard but only had to do 80% to get 100% participation on homework.
Prof Bourque's class is easy to manage if you do the homework before quizzes, go to office hours with questions, and review using department website's practice questions. Lots of homework but if you score 80% or higher overall he gives you full points. Cool guy overall
He's super nice and caring but he's very confusing. Lectures are sort of all over the place and he speeds through his words. Other calc1 classes at LEAST get formula sheets on their exams but you have to memorize everything for this class. He's a great person but wish I had taken a different professor for calc
Don't get me wrong, Doctor Bourque is the NICEST guy. My thing with him is that he teaches a small intro to a topic, throws you into groups, and makes you figure it out. Also, his quizzes only reflect the homework and none of the classwork. NOT a bad teacher if you're good at math or can teach yourself, just not for a non-mathy person.
he is a very nice man and i like him, just not for me academically. he gives a brief overview of the content and then puts you into groups to figure out the work. he gives about 3 things of homework a week and there is normally a quiz every friday. he is good if you are good at learning math more yourself than from him. still, he was very kind.
This man is great. I recommend him, I think the bad reviews are because math is just a hard subject. He's good at making sure you understand the topics. He's also really funny and cracks a lot of dad jokes. honestly do not listen to the reviews and take him. He's great!
I would take Dr. Bourque for any math class in a heartbeat. Personally, I found his lecture style engaging and easy to understand. Calc 131 is a hard subject, but Dr. Bourque was dedicated to us understanding the material and made himself available very frequently outside of class. You can just tell he's passionate about math.
Good lectures and utilization of class time. He is very helpful during office hours, he makes sure to explain every point in a way that YOU understand. Quizzes every week but they're very easy and the SI sessions cover what you need to know. Im taking him again for as long as I can. Would recommend.
He's literally just Sheldon.
Professor Bourque is a really sweet, caring, and funny person overall. I will say that his lectures are very quick with only a couple of slides, and the homework is so much harder than everything else in the class. Be prepared to teach yourself the material and go to his office hours, they help a ton!
Bourque is a good professor because he does take the time to explain the material esp if you are confused or lost, but for me did not like his teaching style and it made no sense to me bc he would explain it in a harder way so i had to self teach and watch videos to learn. his exams are not bad and quizzes are easy as long as you understand the hw
I wish I could give a 0. Im already failing because he simply does not teach. Now im paying for the class and a tutor to actually teach me. Worst prof I've ever experienced.
NOT a good teacher. lectures are short and confusing, and rarely relate to the online homework. relies heavily on group work. however, class is not necessarily difficult and he makes a helpful study guide for exams.
Dr. Bourque is a great professor! His assignments and lectures are very straightforward and he is always willing to help. I took him for MATH 117 as well and never had any issues with his teaching style. I don't know why his reviews are so low as he is a really good professor and cracks some funny jokes. Take him!!
This professor does not teach. He just hands out classwork sheets and expects you to know what to do with barely any instruction. His quizzes also do not model what is taught in class, and the homework assignments don't either. The whole course is a mess and if you have a hard time with math like me, avoid this professor. Prepare to teach yourself.
Dr. Bourque is a good guy & makes me laugh sometimes! He is a bit disorganized, He doesn't lecture a lot and relies on group work. HIs HW are difficult, and his quizzes sometimes don't match up w what's done in class. But, he drops the lowest ones. His exams are pretty easy. He is super helpful in answering questions too! Take him, if you can!
Honestly, he is not the best professor because things tend to be all over the place and you have to do the majority of the learning on your own but he is caring and will help you if you reach out to him. He is also a bit funny. Class tends to be a little boring sometimes but overall he is a good professor. The SI on the other hand wasn't the best.
Reminds me of Kevin from B99, awkward, intelligent, warms up to you, and cares about the class but is a little hard to interact with
Dr. Bourque is nice, but don't take him if you struggle with math: HE DOESN'T TEACH. He expects you to know material he never taught. Usually goes straight into group work and his lectures are only like 5 min long. He gives you a A on HW if you average a 80% and Study material correlates with quizzes and exams but theres a lot of self teaching.
If you're wondering what it might be like to take a math class where there is no professor at all, then this is the class for you. Especially considering he teaches "lower level" college math, this guy is a joke. He will lecture for less than ten minutes, then pass out classwork. Homework is also about 1000x harder than the class examples. Skip.
Genuinely, the people that left bad reviews for this class are just not trying. This class is not hard at all. Bourque is quirky, yes, but he clearly explains everything and is very helpful and kind. If you put in a little work, you'll get an A. It's a stats class...you can't do nothing and expect an A haha
Never actually lectures and instead gives out classwork. If he lectures, he just talks without any substance. Hovers over his students and gives random advice towards students' works without asking. Never mentions his homework assignments, homework is not like the quizzes and exams as well. Overall just an awkward nice guy that can't teach well.
I thought he taught things pretty well, was always open to questions or going over problems and is overall kind. Quizzes were a lot harder than I expected. There is a homework grade but if you do 80% of it you get full points, same with 5 points for 5 discussion posts or comments. Final is cumulative.
I genuinely don't know why Prof. Bourque doesn't have a higher rating. He's awkward and his lectures can go a little quickly, but if you participate in class and ask questions, you can get a lot of good information. His tests are fair and he is willing to admit when he makes a mistake. His class is a very nice introduction to statistics.
Professor Bourque is really nice and always willing to help out. His tests are really straightforward if you keep up with the homework and attend lectures. His grading is fair and I also learnt a lot during this course because of the amount of material he covers. I would definitely recommend him for STAT 103!
The professor can be a bit disorganized, but he cares about the class and is willing to help if you reach out. The workload is manageable with the right study approach, like using resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook. Overall, an okay experience if you're willing to put in the effort.
Each test there is extra credit, there will be 100 points on the test but only 95 needed for a 100 (just an example). If you already don't know the basics of stats it will be somewhat hard. He does not give many examples and sometimes his answer keys are wrong. He means well and is avaliable outside of class. u take him if you need a core credit.
Although the math is hard and there is a lot of homework he is good at teaching and one of the funniest professors you'll encounter. there is a quiz every week and packets but if you show up to class you are almost guaranteed a good grade.
Prof. Bourque is a chill professor, very articulate and his lectures are straightforward. He assigns a few online homework assignments per week online and gives quizzes almost every week, although they're short and incredibly easy. The only downfall is the extra cost of buying the online platform (around 60 bucks) and a calculator (around 150).
Bourque teaching style is not the best for me. He teaches the class a new unit for 20 minutes and the rest of the time makes you get into groups and do classwork. Homework is alright some are difficult. He barely knows how to teach Math 130. Study guides don't align with exams & quizzes. Don't take him if you struggle in math. CHOOSE DIFF PROFESSOR
Dr. Bourque teaches like a mad scientist. Moving from concept to concept throughout a 40 minute period and then assigning awkward group work the next. He's a nice guy, but fails to understand that the reason why students don't attend his class is because they don't learn by working out calculus concepts with two strangers and need hands-on aid.
Calculus is a tough subject regardless of which professor you end up with, but Dr. Bourque is very enthusiastic when it comes to teaching it! as long as you show up, genuinely pay attention, and do the practice quizzes/ exams, you'll be fine.
quizzes every week but they're short and only take 15 mins, lowest 3 scores dropped. 4 tests including final and they can be hard but make sure you actually study and go to his office hours to ask questions. he can go quickly through things in class so usually I did my notes before class just so I know what is going on. textbook is expensive
Honestly I did not mind this professor at first but he made a comment about me not wasting his time when I took time out of my day to attend his office hours. He did not bother to show up to our final and had ZERO of the formulas that he said were going to be on the exam. Take his class at your own risk.
Would've been a 4-5 but the final for MATH130 was made with the most difficult questions they could possibly ask and discussed things outside the study guide. quizzes almost every week and 4 exam including final. Teaches fast but is open to helping you through your problems in class
Calculus is hard no matter what professor you end up with, but Dr. Bourque was a good professor that cares about his students. 4 tests, including the final and weekly quizzes, all of which were fine if you put in the work to learn the material. He can be unorganized but is a nice guy and will help if you just ask.
This class required a lot of work because it's math after all, but the study guide he gives out for exams and quizzes are almost identical(with diff numbers) to the actual quiz. There is A LOT of homework which is very time consuming but overall one of the easiest math classes at Loyola(you're still gonna have to work hard tho).
Test never like the review given he will show one way then on the test he will try to trick you or just have it a completely different way. Talks so fast in class and isn't a very good teacher just expect you to get everything right away and bad at explaining why you do something some way just that that's how. Worst math teacher I've ever had.
I took his Math 110 class, I really didn't like how he set up class time. He would lecture for 15 to 20 minutes at the beginning of class and then have us work in groups on classwork he didn't lecture on and expect us to just figure it out. weekly quizzes Usually, the practice tests are not similar to the actual tests.
Such a sweet and caring guy, but very confusing at times especially during lectures. Also if you take him DONT forget about your homework on Wiley because you will get no reminders. I think he is a great person and will work with you if you need the help, but just be warned he can be a bit silly sometimes.
TAKE HIM! He's welcoming, funny, and easily accessible outside of class. Attendance is mandatory but he's very understanding if something arises. Weekly quizzes with lowest 3 graded dropped. 3 unit exams, 1 final exam. He can be a bit disorganized, but don't be afraid to ask for clarification. Practice material is always posted before a quiz/exam.
He is an amazing teacher and tries his hardest to help you understand the material. In class he can be a bit disorganized but you can always ask questions and he tries to help you understand. He makes time for each student especially at office hours. That is the best time to get clarity on what you struggle with before quizzes and exams.
