He wrote me a letter of recommendation and I was amazed by what he could remember about me and my essays six months after taking his course. He genuinely cares but tends to show it more to those who put forth more of an effort.

Mr. Brooks is a cool professor. His class was seldom dull and we had lots of interesting conversations during brainstorming sessions...my favorite part.

Mr. Brooks is a very good professor, you rarely need to go to class to even know what is going on. No final was required, we had a class discussion on what we learned and got out of the class and were graded on that. If you do the required essays it is no problem getting a good grade, he is even lenient on due dates. I recommend this class to anyo

English teachers make or break the class. Go out of your way to pick this teacher. 3 papers, plus attendance/participation are the only grades. Hard not to get a C if you do the papers. We watched a lot of movies, great discussions. Passionate about literature but not condescending or nitpicky. Encourages you to think. Highly recommend!

Mr. Brooks is like the best teacher in the world. He only requires 3 essays. You can right about whatever you want. I LOVED this class b/c of him. No matter what if you want an a TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Mr. Brooks is a great teacher. He helped me a lot. Don't let the number of formal essays fool you. We or at least I wrote over 6000 words in his class. While I thought it was easy to pass, I didn't think it was easy to get an A. I will try to take his other classes, if it fits my schedule.

awsome teacher and all around good guy! i had surgery within the first few weeks of class and wasnt able to attend but he let me finish. very understanding and a great teacher!! i definitly recomend any of his classes and i am taking another one of his english classes in the fall!!

Hes a really easy going guy. His class is not hard, and the only thing you really need to come to class for is to turn in an asignment and get the next one. If you do stay for the lectures, they are not bad. Even if you dont do a lot of work, you will learn a lot in the class.

Very good teacher, and fair grader. Going to class is not mandatory unless you know there is going to be a new assignment. On occasion he lets you out 1-2 hours early!!! Definately consider taking his class. Also hes a younger teacher so he is more sympathetic to students.

Took his online class. I never liked writing classes but I got an A with little effort. Take him if you can, he is not a harsh grader, seems like a nice guy who wants you to do well.

I took the class last summer on the internet. It is the only internet class I've taken where the teacher still cared about his students and made the class interesting. You use the book for all your assignments and you do learn a lot. He makes sure he gives enough to where you don't feel lost and you feel he's teaching to you. I highly recommend.

Pretty carefree and easy, as long as you do your work (and speeches, obviously) class with him is a breeze.

Mr. Brooks is an amazing teacher. He is so understanding, and cares about his students, there are only a few of those teachers left at IRCC. Mr. Brooks was one of the best teachers I have had. He grades fairly, his assignments were not difficult, he is very lenient, and he understands everyone has different schedules. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great class. Attendance is mandatory, but then he gives you a lot of the classes off to work on your speeches--so it evens out. Very easy class and he made it fun and pleasant to be a part of. Def. rec. taking this class with this professor!

make sure you do all assigments, speeches are alittle much, you have to do a powerpoint presentation for wach one on top of book work. Grades fairly easy

Professor Brooks makes this class interesting. In the beginning of each class he plays rock music videos. He also understands the nervous nature of first time speakers and grades very fair.

Great teacher, very interested class. Prior that class I was afraid of the EN composition because En is my second language, but from the start I felt great. I actually had fun in that class. We had to write few Essays and RP, but Dr. Books was a great help to everyone.

Dr. Brooks is an awesome professor. Just follow the syllabus and you will do very well in this class.

Nothin could be worse than Johnson ENC 1101.

We gave two formal speeches and one informal speech this semester and yes it's true he could have required us to do more work, but by no means did he just hand out an 'A' to everyone. I would definately recommend his class to anyone who appreciates a good, fair teacher and a flexible schedule.

Took the class on the internet. Work was very time consuming, had to write 16 critical responses based on the assigned work, write 2 essay which we would give our speeches from and also a final. We presented the speech either in person or through a video. I thought the class was challenging, and I had to work for my grade.

Dr. Brooks was great for a first time Mass Communications teacher. He gave very clear instructions and there only 2 assignments throughout the semester, just 2 projects. Easy A as long as you do your projects and show up. Highly recommended.

This teacher is great. He understands that giving a speech in front of the class is hard so he tries to make everyone feel comfortable. He takes attendance everyday so you have to show up to class.

A great teacher.I took him for English Comp I, as well as speech communications. He has a good sense of humor, and he gives clear directions. I wish i could take more classes with him.

I thought the class was interesting and liked the assignments. They made me think. He is a hard grader but very clear about what he wants. We did lots of in class editing assigments that helped.

If you can't pass this class you are either lazy or stupid.

Brooks is an Awesome Teacher. I have taken him for ENC1101, ENC1102 and am taking him for speech. He is funny and laid back. He expects great essays, and explains everything very clearly in class discussions. We watch cool videos and movies, and write interesting essays. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!

He made speech class seem very relaxing instead of stressful. Take him very helpful too.

He is a great teacher. Use of foul language in class sometimes... I felt I really had to work for my A, but I enjoyed the class overall and he is a nice teacher. Does not require alot of homework in this class, but do a good job on your essays.

Really good teacher, easy class never uses the alloted time! But he is a really hard grader, bases writings of his style. Would definitely recommend him, took him for 1101 and 1102. He only does about 4 to 5 essays per class and no type of grammar work

I took him online for Advanced College Writing. So interesting, used "A World of Ideas" and TED.com for videos. All material was extremely interesting, online format was simple and effective, and the papers were pretty easy, and fun. There's a pre-writing exercise (one paragraph, 12.5% of grade), three essays (75%), and a small final essay (12.5%).

This guy is BOSS! I had him for ENC1101 in the summer and we only did 4 papers... We didn't even do a final because he said it was pointless. WE got let out early just about every class (like at least an hour early). He was able to teach everything really simply but you got it.

He is the best but hard as hell.

Don't know what the dude is like, since I'm taking online mass media communications. Love the class. Learned so much about the mass media than I have ever had. I'm glad they offered it online. Only two big research papers, as well as six TED videos and a final. I plan on taking his online ENC1107 class in spring. From what I hear, he's pretty cool

Never met the guy or talked to the guy, so idk what he's like. Have him for mmc1000 online, and it's the best class I've ever taken. Learned more about the media than I've ever had. Plan on taking him again for online advanced writing. Only two research papers and six TED videos, plus a final. From what I heard, he seems pretty cool but again idk

I missed a lot of class, the problem or ther reason for it was absent the same amomunt or more. It seems like he was going through the motions and while easy I didn't really learn or do much.

I was terrified to present a speech before taking this class. Learned a ton from the assignments and feel 100% confident now. There wasn't a whole lot of communication with Mr. Brooks, but he seemed like a very fair and understanding professor. He didn't ding us too badly if papers or speeches were late. His instructions were very straight forward.

Great teacher, i had him for public speaking in which I took online..I pass with B but i blame myself for that because it was a easy A only if i had put more into my recorded speech. I highly recommend him and he answer emails on time and he grades fairly :)

Had him for advanced writing. The essays he assigned really makes you think. There's 10 chapters out of the book worth 25 percent of the grade, 2 big essays worth a total of 50 percent of your grade, and then a final exam essay worth 25 percent. I feel the class made me a better writer. If you don't like to write, don't take the class.

Really into pop culture, makes you comfortable speaking. Very helpful, and gives useful assignments. Speeches are basically on what you want, so take the time to learn something that interests you! He;s super relaxed with deadlines

super easy. lets you out about an hour early. go into class to watch a TED video and discuss current essay we're working on. then rough draft day where you get into groups to read essays and then you can leave. loves things related to our everyday life. super nice and fun. easy grader. exam is a short short "essay". used textbooks maybe 3 times.

Easiest class i've ever taken. I took him over the summer and it was my first college class. There's a paper due every week, i got A's on all of them. I don't think I was ever in class for more than an hour and when we have to watch videos in class, they're usually funny. IF YOU'RE TAKING AN ENGLISH CLASS, TAKE HIM!

Good Class. Made you think about your writing, I feel I have become a better writer from taking him. However if you expect grades quickly it wont happen, He takes well over a week to get essay's graded. I had to ask him both times to get my grade. Then the next essay he "critiqued" and gave me a lesser grade. Good class would take again.

SUCH an easy class! As long as you have some brain activity, you'll pass it easy. Speak up when you can - he likes to promote in-class discussions.

Very easy! As long as you give your speeches you will get an A! Let's you out really early too!

Dr. Brooks' class was great! I took this session online; speeches are presented either in person or by uploading videos. The practice test is extremely helpful for the written tests.

Brooks is a cool dude. The only grades we had were essays and he tried to make them interesting (i.e. how you would survive a zombie apocalypse). Plays a lot of interesting Ted talks and plays music in the beginning of class

Online, took during SUMMER II 2012; Mr.Brooks made this experience simple and straight to the point! Speeches can be presented in class or youtube (really cool) I really enjoyed this class. He returned emails quickly and assignments were a breeze; including the 2 test, which were only the midterm and final. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Grades our essays hard as hell. But made class interesting.

If you need to rake this class, take Dr. Brooks! He's an excellent instructor. Provides us 9 easy critical responses, 2 online take-home exams, and 2 formal speeches(1 Informative and 1 Persuasive). EASY A! :D

I took this class online and got an 'A'. Most of your grade depends on the essays. I highly recommend Dr. Brooks for ENC1101.

Essays are about easy to write topics, and he is very fair in grading. Essays makeup majority of grade. Tests can be very confusing as they are worded oddly. Very helpful and quick to respond and grade. Only downside is he does not add notes to your essay, so you do not know what you did wrong.

Mr. Brooks is an AWESOME EASY A TEACHER. Do the homework, essays and occasionally show up and you'll get an A. Missed 6 weeks of class and STILL got an A. Homework is so easy a 10 year old could do it. You will need to buy the book for his class. Good Luck!

PHENOMENAL professor! Dr. Brooks is willing to answer ANY questions, and assist you with any class assignments or projects if you need it. He is very straightforward about what is expected from you in the course. Your grade is based out of answering questions online, two online take home exams, and participating in speaking activities. EASY "A"!

Dr.brooks grades your papers very easy. But the way he splits your grades is kind oh unfair. Making 75% of your total grade based on two essays and 25% on 6 other papers. You have to get an A on every assigemment to get an A in his class. Nice guy tho kinda strange.

I took this class online. Great professor, though A LOT of work. He assigns 4 chapters in each section which is a LOT of reading, and has us do numerous projects to. Overall an easy A class if you just do the work.

Only a few assignments and they were online. VERY helpful from day one, made everyone feel comfortable about speaking. "As long as you actually give a speech, you'll pass." Loose time limit, loose topic choice, easy grading. Just speak. Attendance mandatory for speeches.

Do the work and you will pass. Essays make up most of your grade so focus mostly on them. Easy schedule to follow. I would recommend you taking this class with him.

Quizzes and assignments are directly from assigned readings. Easy grader on essays as long as you follow guidelines given. Would definitely take another class instructed by Brooks.

Best instructor ive ever had at IRSC. I took this class online and love it. Everything I've read was interesting. He makes the class fun. Its super easy... most of the work is all personal opinion based on what you read. I would love to take this class again!

I took this course online and Dr. Brooks made it very easy to follow along. He had equally spaced due dates and assignments with very clear instructions. I emailed him several times throughout the course and he always responded in a timely manner. As long as you put effort in the essays and short responses you will get an A!

I took this course online and loved it. He was a great professor and the material was not overwhelming. He always responded back to my emails accordingly and let me make up some work that I was unable to turn in on time. Would definitely recommend and would take another class of his again if I could!

This was my first class towards my AA degree and Dr. Brooks was very helpful. His syllabus laid out his course expectations clearly and concisely. He has an amazing sense of humor. I was so impressed with him that I decided to take ENC1102 with him in the Fall.

This was my second class with Dr Brooks and I would gladly take another. He is very clear and concise with what he expects from you. He is an awesome professor who goes out of his way to help his students. He is very approachable and an extremely knowledgeable teacher.

Brooks is an awesome professor. Very clear on what is expected as a student. Lectures are educating and not boring. I was nervous beginning this class not having been in school for years. Couldn't have been easier with Brooks as my professor. I would hold off on buying books until he states that you need them because he didn't have us use them.

Loved his class! Easy to get in contact with responds to emails fast. One week we would have 3 150 word paragraphs due after watching ted talk videos the next week an essay on the paragraphs we did previously. Final exam is at college with a pre-written rough draft. Loved his teaching style and would definitely take him again. Never bought the book

Dr. Brooks was one of 'those' teachers. By that, I mean he was interested in the student more than the class. Highly recommend him for any of the classes he offers. And be ready for pop culture references.

I would highly recommend taking this online class. Although there were a lot of writing assignments, Professor Brooks is a very easy grader. As long as you completed the assignment and did it correctly, you will get a good grade. If you enjoy watching TedTalks, definitely take this class!

Little did I know that this class is actually the Student Radio class. I stayed in the class because I thought it would be interesting and I got credit for ENC1102. Everyone is expected to participate in some way, be it editing or interviewing for the show! If you're interested, I highly recommend! It's a great little group and I had fun!

I was upset because I recieved a B because I accidently took a quiz that was NOT a practice quiz and got a 40% on. Other than him not letting me retake that, he was a pretty good teacher. I took this online in the summer and ended up with a 89.8. I'm not complaining although if you take this online make sure you take the right practice quizzes! lol

He was a great online teacher and accepts all late work.

I would suggest this class to anybody! Professor Brooks was awesome throughout the whole semester that I took this course. He taught a lot on how to present a speech, and what he was looking for in your speeches. There was homework, but it was not due every week, it was just due by the end of the semester. Easy and really great course to take.

Dr. Brooks class is pretty simple. Just do the assignments and have everything complete and Right, and the class will be an easy A. Make sure to keep up with all the due dates on the assignments, even though he will accept some late work. Just make sure you have enough self-discipline to get through an online class.

He truly is an amazing professor. My favorite one I've had. I'll be taking 3 of his classes. 2 I've chosen him for electives. His English classes are great! He chooses topics that are interesting. He's funny and cares about his students. I would recommend taking his classes. There are a few essays. Do your work and it's an easy A.

I took Professor Brooks Mass Communication class online. It was one of the easiest classes that Ive taken. Hes very caring in the sense that if youre slacking on your work, he will email you to give you some encouragement. He also takes late work so thats a plus!

Really easy class as long as you stay on top of things. You will be writing lots, but usually only a paragraph or 2.

Dr. Brooks was awesome. Very down to earth and class was simple, never felt overwhelmed with work, and took the course during the summer. Assignments were 3 essay questions per chapter (write a paragraph) and 3 very simple 5 paragraph essays and your final exam was to write about 3 most important things you learned in class. Easy A if you do work

I took Dr. Brooks' online class and loved it. I wish more teachers graded the way Dr. Brooks does; he really encourages you to do your best. I had a very heavy workload last semester and doing his assignments were the highlight of my day. Just make sure you get all your work turned in and completed correctly and you will have no problems.

I took Mass Communications online with this professor, and it was absolutely fine. Not only would I take another class with him, but I actually am already set for taking one with him again. As long as you do the work, which generally isn't too difficult, and show him that you at least tried with it, I suspect that you'll pass.

Professor Brooks' classes aren't too difficult to pass provided that you do a decent job on your work that shows you clearly tried, as well as read the chapters of the textbook (whether online or physical copy). I've taken Mass Communication and Public Speaking with him and am already lined up to take Fundamentals of Speech Communication with him.

Professor Brooks was amazing!! I took his class online and was afraid about it being confusing as some online classes are. He is straight to the point. Each module is due on a specific date, but do not worry he gives plenty of time to complete each assignment. He is clear with what he expects from you, and is also a pretty cool guy all around. :))

Great class, great teacher. This class uses a free online textbook. I learned a lot. Weekly quizzes, nothing crazy, and the midterm and final are 100% the same as the quizzes.

I had no meeting day. Easy work. You read the chapters or just skim through for the quizs. Only one honorlock test. Its the final exam thats an proctored essay and you can use an outlineEasy. 2 main speeches. Little videos made for grades. Not a lot of communication from prof tho. If you need help, you have to ask him. Hes nice.

Professor Brooks really cares about his Students and he wants his students to pass. He is a nice and caring professor and he will help you on whatever you need help with. Highly recommend!

This class was easy as pie. You only have 3 sound segments and 3 discussion boards not a lot of typing and a small summary to write at the testing center. Just try and come up with something and try to do the work he’s very understanding, helpful, and wants for everyone to pass. Take him seriously!

This class was easy and fun because of this professor. The class has complicated subject matter but he made the assignments easy to relate to and understand. All of the quizzes/exams were not on honor lock and an essay for the final. His two essays are SHORT essays so very easy too! The textbook was free mostly we just had to watch youtube videos!

Easy professor, just show up to class and do the 3 required projects and you will pass this class with flying colors. Wish all professors can be this simple!

This was literally the best class I've ever taken. I took it online, but the course is easy and so are the assignments. The homework is split up really nicely + nothing was honor locked, not even the final. He also kept the assignments open the entire class & I still received full credit for turning in one late. Funny & nice. Best professor ever!

Professor Brooks is awesome! He is super nice and down to earth which is great as he puts absolutely no extra pressure on any students when they are presenting the several required presentations in the course. Professor Brooks is easy to talk with, giving you good feedback on any questions you may have and creating a comfortable class environment.

Great teacher. I was going through a hard time, and I emailed him because I had so many late assignments. Luckily, he understood and graded my late assignments. As a teacher myself, I understand the stress of late assignments, so I am glad he understood as well. I loved his assignments, and I also appreciated the short videos he posted.
