he doesn't give A's easily, but he's a good teacher

I was in his class last year and I learned so much from him. He encourages students to write and express themselves. I like his personality and the way he made each class interesting. I love reading and writing poetry and this class was perfect for me.

Students are so scared of him and think he is a drag just because he is young. He is a great teacher and you will definitely learn a whole lot. Everything is step by step and he helps you along the way!!! Must work hard but it will be easy with his help.

He is by far the most amazing professor at BC. It's not an easy course but it's the only class I have ever enjoyed and found rewarding.

He's all right. Nothing great, thinks too much of himself. He gives a 20-page research paper to write but no final. He gives the MOST boring book to read and quizes on it. No homeworks. Overall he's not so great.

He was ok during the semester. I agree that he is not an easy A but he does make you work for your grade. He's fair with grading, as long as you perform to your full capacity. Also, he's not bad on the eyes. LOVED Poetry with this professor, he lives the

AWESOME prof. He is young and very sweet. You have to do alot of writing and reading in this class but he makes it fun and makes you get out of your "shell" Midterm is easy as long as you read the book and pay attn in class. Final is a 20 page paper but it is a fun paper if you choose a great book!

I was extremely impressed with him. It's true, he makes you work, but he understands a student's limit. He's very willing to help & sets up his class so everyone feeds off eachother. He was one of my absolute favorite college professors and he is phenominally good-looking, which makes class more fun

He is GREAT! You work for ur grade BUT he's really down to earth. This prof is A MUST, especially if you luv peotry! Plus, even if the class gets dull he's reeeal nice 2 look at =)

Prof. Burgess is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He's understanding, funny, and really cares about his students. His work load is a bit heavy, but its very helpful and he grades fairly. He's also really cute!!!!!

This teacher does care about the student and the material that he teaches - good traits. We read 6 books in the class; I enjoyed three of them. there are the normal core 6 type of exams (sporatic quizzes, essays tests). Recommeded but not highly recommended

he's samrt, funny, charming, GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! what i would to get my hands on him. it's a friendly environment in the class. you'll learn a lot plus have fun. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!! did i mention he's more beutiful then brad pitt!

I was truly impressed with this prof. He was able to do a very hard thing-be both a friend to his students and,at the same time,not lose a control over the class.There was a lot of work, reader responses, a midterm and a final,but I've learned a lot.He is a good teacher and a good person.

He was the best English teacher I ever had. He does give alot of work, but in the end you really feel like you learned alot.He is very understanding and is there to help you during his office hours. This was the best A I ever got.

Professor Burgess is a must-take, especially if you need to get Core 6 over with. I really got a lot out of this class, and read books I would never have read, much less enjoyed, on my own. His Modern British Fiction class is also good. Very organized and energetic professor.

Great professor. Interesting books, althought one is VERY difficult. Tries to get you to understand everything and is EXTREMELY flexible in assignments and such. Awesome.

I had him for eng 1 and creative writing. Gives a lot of reading amd writing, but its well worth it, I improved a lot. He teaches you to really let out all your feelings onto the paper. An amazing teacher and person!

Ok here is this guys deal. He thinks that he is the only class that you should take for summer. I dont think he was terrible but if you can avoid him,do so to keep your sanity. He is probably a teacher that you should take in a full semester not a summer course because the amount of work is redic. I'd prob take him again for a full semester.

I've had him for 3 different classes, and he is one of the best. This isn't a bird course though, you need to earn your A. There is a lot of reading and written assigments, but they are all interesting. His group work activities always paid off for me. He is very nice, funny and compassionate and he will help you become a better writer.

he assignes a lot of reading, but he is willing to help in any way, the final was a piece of cake for me and i am not even an english major, the final paper though was too much 7-10 pages, u gotta come to all of his classes and participate, and dont get on his bad side

One of the best professors I've had at BC. If you put in the effort, he is willing to help you no matter what. Let's put it this way, I'm an English Ed major. I was pulling a C- after the midterm. With his help, I managed to get a B in the class. Im not saying its a cakewalk, but its worth it. Do the readings and you'kk be fine!

Nice teacher. Has alot of requirements though for 1 intro class. I'd recommend taking him since its not a boring class and you get to do alot of writing of your own choice... he does make you work for a grade though so don't bring your pillow..

Best English professor at BC. He loves the subject that he teaches and projects that love on to his students. He allows for all the voices in the room to be heard. There is a fair amount of work, but he is extremely helpful if you talk to him about problems you're facing. If you're an English major, don't leave BC without taking a class with him!!!

STRICT WITH ATTENDANCE...was too afraid to tell people their writting was just plain bad, even when it was obvious...class is in a workshop form so everyone gets to read each others work. PARTICIPATE, BE PRESENT !!! not hard to get an A.

I loved English 52 &it's not just cuz I have a passion for English...it was great because of Professor Burgess, who is young and fun, & strives to make this class a collaborative &insightful one in which creativity &self-expression are encouraged &celebrated. u don't get an a for n/th but ull have a great time &learn a lot while u work for it!

He is very helpful and tries to involve every student in the class. Hands on. Sensitive to his students. Time passes by quickly. Allows (and encourages) you to re-write and he encourages you to perfect your craft (writing). At the end, I felt that all the work was worth the effort.

He Loves what he does and it makes him a great professor! He tries to make a class interesting and fun. Very helpful. And you will leave his class with knowledge. Highly recommend him!

Awesome, dynamic Prof who really cares. His passion is contagious & teaching style is innovative.

Prof. encourages creativity and expects A LOT of effort from each student. He doesn't help students improve their writing though (very few papers and really only points out strong points so you don't know what to work on). I worked really hard and was always in attendance and got a B, and I am a pretty good writer. Not once encouraged resubmission.

This prof. Is very caring. He really wants his students to improve and Do well in his class. It is impossible to fail if you do all the work since he gives you points for trivial things like simply completing an assignment. If you have never written a research paper before, he will hold your hand along the way. It's not too hard to get an A.

Professor Burgess is highly motivative, knowledgeable & focused. As a "Jock" I felt overwhelmed when he said we had to do an autobio & a research paper! But he really inspires u and walks u thru every step and pushes u to accomplishing the task! Its a lot of work but it pays out with an A or B. I highly RECOMMEND Prof BURGESS to anyone for ENG 2.

This professor knows exactly what he's doing. He can teach one thing in several different ways and is always available when you need him with quick responses. He encourages and believes in all his students. Definitely recommend him to anyone who needs to take english 2. I learned things about doing a research paper that I never knew before.

its a nice class, laid back, and you can free write poems for extra credit! a bit of work, but thats any english class. oh and he is also extremely good looking ;)

Professor Burgess will make you a better writer, guaranteed! His lectures are a lot of fun partly due to his great personality. Few reading material and a lot of writing. Lots of opportunity for extra credit as well. I highly recommend him for English courses!

Amazing professor! He is very caring about his students and wants you to succeed in his class. You have to do the work, but its never difficult work to do. Very light and simple assignments. When it comes to the research paper, he breaks it down step by step. Great English class!

One of the best Professors! loves what he does and has knows his stuff. He actually teaches how to write a research paper and guides you through the process. We did a lot of free-writes and participation is encouraged. very friendly and pretty funny too.

The most caring and compassionate professor I have met at Brooklyn College. Clearly helps you with the steps in writing a solid research paper. Also gives a few other fun activities to do throughout the semester.

Hands down best English professor ever taken in my life. Doesn't ask for a crazy amount of work and in return gives you a semester of true reflection and interesting classes. This class will help with future writing in any classes and Burgess is an absolute must take

Class is very boring and long.

One of a kind professor, but you have to earn a good grade. That said, I absolutely loved his class and found him to be an inspirational person. His love of knowledge and devotion to excellence are contagious. Much of what I learned I will take with me beyond this class. He's always there to help so don't be a stranger to his office hours.

Interesting lectures and perspective. The class is never boring. You can tell he's passionate about his work. We do weekly blackboard posts and around 3 essays for the semester. The only part I'm not fond of is that he makes you present your final essay to the class.

Professor Burgess was probably the best professor I have ever had at Brooklyn College. I took his Children's and literature course during the pandemic so the classes were remote. The books he chose are great. He makes the environment so comfortable and fun. Discussions are great and he gives the best feedback. He wants you to succeed. Loved him!

Prof Burgess is one of the best profs I've had at BC. He is very positive and energetic and I always looked forward to his class. He assigns homework every week and has them graded with detailed feedback within a week or two. Participation is a must and he takes attendance the minute class begins. You also present a snippet of your final project.

He is a real gem! He knows how to facilitate a classroom that makes writing fun and interesting. He cares a lot about learning the beauty of writing. He allows you creative liberty in every project and provides amazing feedback. You will learn to love to write in this class! One of my favorite classes at BC.

Professor Burgess is a caring, sensitive inspiring Professor - but don't take his kindness for granted. Show up - and show up ON TIME. You will look at things with a deeper understanding with whatever class you take with him. You will get many assignments and have to work for you grade -He will want you to put effort into your work- take him!

This professor is amazing, he does make you work for your grade, he does challenge you but his style of teaching is one of a kind. There is lots of reading and weekly discussion board posts. Overall I enjoyed this professor.
