This class is a great choice for completing the Arts/Humanity requirements. His lectures are always funny and engaging. When you take his class you will notice that he goes through a lot of information and concepts quickly. But no worries as he will highlight what specific things you need to read and what will be on the two tests. Super easy.

Calarco is the best philosophy professor among a stellar department. Take as many classes with him as you can. He's exceptional at clearly unpacking philosophy. Be warned that you really need to show up. You'll get lost and fall behind if you miss many lectures. He usually grades on one or two papers and one or two essay/short answer exams.

I just got graded on his first test and I passed with an A. You don't need the book to pass since he goes over the sections he wants you to know in his lectures, but it does help to understand the subject a lot better. So far, this professor has opened my eyes to what the world is by his great explanations. Highly recommend this class for life.

Professor Calarco was one of the most memorable professors I've had. His class made me rethink a lot of aspects of my life LOL. Hilarious guy who makes lectures easy to follow and tells you exactly what you need to know for the exam. Exams weren't crazy difficult, pay attention in class, most of his exams come from lecture.

Although I've never seen Professor Calarco, he is an amazing lecturer. He explains Philosophy really clearly that you can understand it the first time he lectures. His readings are relevant and fell smoothly together. As long as you do the lectures and spend like 2 hours a week just listen, you'll do well. This class is easy and interesting.

The most respected professor by his peers and students that I've ever met. And every bit worth it. I took Professor Calarco for 323, 383, and 490 and I wish I could take more of his classes as I enter into Grad school. A very wise and great man, who lives his philosophy. The very best of the best, and an absolute honor to be taught by.

I'm a Psych major so some of the reading material had me a bit in knots, but the professor does an awesome job of simplifying the major takeaways in his video lectures and is very knowledgable. A bit of reading material- some of it difficult to digest, but he explains it quite well. Highly recommend, awesome professor.

Lectures are heavy and can be a lot of writing, especially because he doesn't post lecture notes online, but most of the time our class was out early. His lectures are a vibe for sure. There's only a midterm and final, along w a really easy 3 pt quiz for ec. I'm a CS major and I didn't have to take this class, but I'm glad I did.

Calarco is such a wonderful and respected professor. As a PHIL minor, another PHIL professor recommended his class to me, and I'm so thankful I did. The reading can be difficult at first read, but he explains everything very well with and with a hint of humor, too. Only two tests, so be sure to attend class since he doesn't post the lectures!

He respects his students a lot and he's completely chill, feels like a friend who's presenting on a topic he cares about to the class. You don't have to read the book, just take notes on all his lectures. Amazing person overall!

I had Calarco for both 323 and 315. There's no one else I'd recommend! This class is about animal welfare/rights and how different philosopher's write argue for or against it in their own ways. There is one essay and two online, open note exams. The essay is easy because he gives little assignments to help you keep up with it.

This class is so entertaining and easy to pay attention in if you like the topic. You're graded by a midterm and final both of which have true/false questions and essay questions. There's one opportunity for extra credit which are like 3 points. As long as you take notes and finish the study guides you'll do great.

Super chill professor, always cracked jokes and had fun. He is very knowledgeable about everything he teaches and is super lenient. His lectures just went through passages of books and analyzed them. Besides that, we only had a midterm and a final exam. Super easy on both, however, they are essay questions, so you do have to know the material.

I loved Professor Calarco's sense of humor. He gives long, but insightful lectures that demonstrated his passion for Existentialism. We had no hw, but I do wish we had group discussions about the material. With that being said, definitely read, show up, & take lots of notes as your grade depends on the midterm, final, (both have essay q's) & EC
