Great professor. Made statistics manageable and not scarey. Reviews before tests and a practice test worth extra credit on the test. Made me enjoy coming to class. If I had any more math to take I would certainly take again.
If you're severely math challenged like me, you need to take Caputo. He's willing to go the extra mile to help you, as long as you ask for help. He makes a difficult subject more approachable and gives lots of good tips and shortcuts. I was dreading this class but managed B+ by staying on top of the assignments and going to office hours when needed
He is great and very clear. Very helpful! Review for tests are important so don't miss and do practice test and you will get a good grade in test. He always helped understand concepts by putting a real life comparison. Daily poppers so attendance is important. Easy A if you are organized and keep up with work.
I took statistics 2311 online and it was challeging. Unless you are responsible take this course. At the begining the course was unorganized! The only good part are the practice test that give 10 extra points!
Great professor, he responds to you quickly and online lectures help, textbook may cover what he doesn't go over in the online lectures. very easy math class though, middle school stuff.
Great professor, makes the class easy to understand. He is very willing to assist in helping you if needed and takes the time to answer questions that you may have. The optional practice tests are worth credit so it is important that you do them. The end of sections reviews before the test are very helpful as well.
He's pretty easy overall. He moves through this course very quickly and doesn't really review any material until the day before the test. Gives very short review not really helpful for the tests. If you can keep up with the him it should be a pretty easy A. I wasn't so lucky
He's pretty easy overall the class is departmentalized. He moves through this course very quickly and doesn't really review any material until the day before the test. Gives very short review not really helpful for the tests. He is nice about fixing grade errors. Attendance is key for popper questions and note taking. He doesnt reply clearly.
First off, Dr. Caputo gives you enough information to figure out problems on your own. He is also very helpful if you're not understanding something! However, if you take is online class 2311, be aware. You have two quizzes and two homework assignments due weekly as well as tests throughout the course so make sure you can keep up. Tad overwhelming.
Great teacher, cares about students, accessible inside and outside of class, lots of opportunities to succeed, extra credit, very friendly, humorous
Normal quizzes (gives you the answers) every day during class as well as homework due every week online. Extra credit through practice tests. Goes out of his way to help students! Would definitely recommend if you're the type to need extra help.
Dr. Caputo is an great professor, I took his class for College Algebra 1310 and he make the course humorous, entertaining and very clear. Dr. Caputo does give daily poppers in his class though so you should go to class as these count towards your grade. He really cares that his students understand the material, and practice tests give extra credit.
I've been out of the classroom for 9 years and was very apprehensive about this course after being away from math for so long. Dr. Caputo taught his lectures in such a way that both those fresh out of high school and us older folks who didn't have much to go off of could understand. He answered all questions asked. My highest recommendation.
Very good teacher. His lectures really help you do well in the class. A lot of homework and online quizzes. Attend class, their are attendance poppers. Overall a good teacher and you will do well if you do the assignments and study for tests.
First, he is a brat. Course is not too hard, but he is really immature and disrespectful except for his "favorites" in the front row. There were many CASA problems, but when we emailed him, he gave multiple RANTING EMAILS saying that he REFUSES to help us. I got a 0 on my HW(which I submitted) but he said "sorry I cant do anything, deal with it"
Professor Caputo is super helpful. He is willing to answer questions and basically lives at the CASA tutoring center. I'm terrible at math but his teaching makes it easy to understand. You have two quizzes and a hwk due every other week. He does test reviews in class and there are 3 exams and a final you can opt out. If you fail you're not trying.
Great Professor and super helpful even outside of CASA and office hours. If you need Math and you are not good at it, Take him as he is extremely knowledgeable and has an easy way of explaining details.
He is great professor ! He makes math easy. Every week we have one homework assignment and two quizzes. In total there is 4 tests and a final that you cannot opt out. Attendance is mandatory because every class there is a popper which counts for attendance and a grade. Dr. Caputo is always available to help if you have questions outside of class.
He's really passionate about math and wants everyone to understand things. He cares about his students grades and really wants you to be successful. He takes daily poppers, for part of your grade, so make sure to show up. He always emails backs in a fast manner and makes sure to answer all your questions. I would defiantly take math with him again
Dr. Caputo is great. His big personality and weird ties make lectures fun. He goes a bit fast, but if you ask him to go back, or explain, he will gladly do it, even in a class of 300. He's caring and really wants you to understand and like math. He is always in CASA, and has even offered to help tutor us for future math classes not taken with him.
Lots of homework, 2 assignments a week plus a quiz that takes an hour to complete each time. Go to class because there is poppers and Caputo will make it sound like you can miss a bunch of them but you can't. He was not helpful, goes very fast, and expects you to have already taken Stats before. But besides all that, he funny sometimes.
Funny guy, amazing class. 10/10 would recommend. He's so willing to help and offers so many times to reiterate notes/examples. He uses R studio which is a breeze to figure out how to use.
Attendance is technically not mandatory but he does take poppers every class. Good lecturer and will do his best to make sure you understand. He can be a little nerdy at times and acts like a typical dad. Coursework is constant-by that I mean there will be a quiz or homework pretty much every week. Overall a pretty solid choice for a professor.
He is a great Professor and love how he has lecture in a PowerPoint mode. He explains everything in clear language that way we all can understand. Homeworks are a little tedious which is why I was always in CASA. There are quizzes in class a total of about 30 of them but he drops 15% of them if I am jot mistaking. he offers extra credit!
Pretty solid Prof. He is very flexible with his office hours and truly wants you to be successful in his class. His lectures are very clear and is open to any questions anyone may have even in a class of over 300 students. Would definitely recommend.
LOVE DR CAPPIE he's real caring ALWAYS wanting to help other students whether it be at the crack of dawn in his office or during casa hours, he's always there when you need him. HILARIOUS guy takes the time to know his students whether to from their major to life goals
Took his online class. His lectures are clear, he stresses the importance of completing poppers, quizzes and homeworks. Even though I took him online, I felt as if I had a face to face interaction with him. His lectures are online and I found it easy to print them and follow the lecture with the notes. Every point matters, poppers, quizzes, and hw
Need to be aware of the deadlines.
One of the greatest teachers I've ever had. Willing to do whatever to help you. Nice guy and actually makes math bearable.
He makes this class super easy! He posts completed notes after lectures & does a popper. He gives u a test review in class, when he does not have to at all. Yes, there is weekly HW and biweekly quizzes, and you have to actually go to class, but if that is your only problem, you need character readjustment, because he makes this where u can pass.
Don't really waste money on a textbook! Most times you would only need 4 out of 20 questions from the textbook. Just find a friend to share and do homework with them. This class is super easy as long as you go to CASA for quiz and homework help you will get through this no problem. There was no midterm and I was able to exempt from taking the final
Professor Caputo assigns daily popper questions, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, it'd be in your best interest to attend lectures. He's honestly the best math teacher I've had, and I'm not that great at math either. The only use for the textbook is for homework questions that he assigns. He is very good at explaining things one on one.
Dr. Caputo is one of my favorite professors. He has an energetic and upbeat personality about him. He is always smiling and laughing. He will go over problems with you after class if you didn't understand something. The practice tests are worth 10 points extra credit on the test which is amazing. I barely passed the placement test and I have an A+
Easy class, Caputo is great! If you put in some effort, you will make an A.
By far the easiest math class I have ever taken. Caputo is great and the way the course is set up, it allows you to really pass the class with an easy a.
He really cares if you understand the material, he is willing to help out if something is unclear. Make sure to actually pay attention and study and you will be set for the class. He is good at explaining and is funny sometimes.
I mixed up 2 HW's, he told me he wouldn't give credit for both and I would get a 0 for the one that was past due and my only option was to redo one that was still not due. My final grade ended up being a 89.96 and he wouldn't bump me to a 90, told me I had to stay at a B - that 1 HW would've definitely made a difference. Not willing to help at all.
Really caring professor. He stays after class to answer questions, he makes sure everyone understands, he doesn't shame you if you ask s stupid question. Great guy.
I took Caputo online. I suspect that he had hundreds of online students so I was impressed when he would respond to my emails almost immediately. Although this seems helpful, in his responses he was extremely rude, insensitive, and offered no help at all. STATS was a difficult class, especially online, you gotta keep up with the work for sure.
Caputo's math class is similar to other University of Houston Math Classes in that all of your homework will be online, or atleast be submitted online. You will have two poppers weekly. You will have 4 tests and 1 final. Caputo's lectures are very informational. He's also very friendly and a relaxed professor. He's fun to chat with before class.
When I signed up for this course, it was my 3rd time in college taking algebra. In Dr. Caputo's class I came out of the semester with a B, which for me was phenomenal. He is the best math teacher I have ever had and if you put in the effort he will make sure you succeed. He tries to keep lectures as entertaining and comprehensible as possible.
matt caputo is the best math dr I have ever taken. I've taken 2 of this classes this year soon to be 3. He appreciates students that are motivated to do well in his classes.
I would definitely take Prof Caputo again. The only reason why I say the class is difficult is being the CASA system at UH. Other than that, you will not have any complaints about Caputo, he's really nice and is willing to help everyone out! He makes jokes as well and is very polite.
His lectures were simple and easy to follow, and very well organized. If you watch the lectures and take notes, the homeworks are almost too easy. He's concise and to the point. One of the best math profs I've ever had. Beware though, the poppers are due at 8am on Monday (not midnight like most courses). That tripped me up the first two weeks.
As all math classes you have poppers, homework every week and multiple choice tests on CASA.
Since UH lets you use Rstudio, this class is 3x easier! Professor Caputo's lectures are excellent. There were some lectures that I didn't understand all that well, but when I referenced his notes with another professor's it became very clear to me. The subject matter towards the end of the semester are very hard to get, so do VERY well at the start
I'm not a math person at all, but I actually managed to get a B+ - Could have easily gotten an A if I had tried harder. Definitely take this professor if math isn't your subject, he explains things in a way that makes sense. He is also really funny and likable.
Incredibly smart professor. Because it was a summer course, the material, as he described, was given at a "marathon sprint" speed. As good as I am at understanding math, this class was not a cake walk. If I didn't have the extra help outside of class, I probably would have failed. I am not sure of my grade, but I'm assuming somewhere along an A-.
He is very lenient. I love his ties. He makes funny jokes. The content is really easy and just do your poppers and you will be fine.
Awesome and easy class. Business calc is just math along with Geogebra (basically a mathway). If you show up to lectures, you'll understand material since he's always very clear in explaining everything. Just pay attention and it should be an easy A.
There's a lot of papers, but that's for all math classes. He's a great professor that'll help you with questions. He responds very quickly to emails if you're stuck on a hw problem. I don't like math, but he made math less aggravating which most math professors have not been able to do for me.
Absolutely loved him! He's a great professor and teaches really well. He makes college algebra very easy to understand. There are a lot of quizzes and homework but they help to understand the material for the test, and you have 20 attempts to make a 100.
One of my favorite teachers ever. Great professor who seems to love his job. Poppers every class so attendance is mandatory, but his lectures are good enough to compensate for this. He responds to emails quickly, so any problems you may have on homework can be easily remedied.
So usually, math isn't my forte. However, Dr. Caputo taught so well that I was able to understand exactly what I was doing. He loves doing what he does, and his passion for this subject shows. Loved the class.
Very good at explaining problems. He is also easily accessible for help and has beneficial review sessions before tests.
Poppers IN CLASS. 1 homework per lesson and there are around 24 lessons so 1 or 2 each week. Quizzes are online with 20 attempts.
Caputo's lectures were very subject-heavy and often hard to keep up with because he goes so fast. 4 major tests, weekly online quizzes/homework, and poppers in class for attendance grades. You have 20 times to take the quizzes, so make sure to get the highest grade you can. Overall, he's a really good teacher, I just suck at math.
He explains things well in the lectures, never had to go to tutoring. The content in is very easy, there is a lot of hw and quizes that are due so watch out. The homework is generally harder than the exams, 10% of your practice exam score is added onto each test grade. Poppers so attendance is mandatory. Geogebra used for everything. Easy Class.
I took this class online after already taking stats in high school so it wasn't too difficult. Wouldn't recommend taking this class online if you don't have a strong math or stats background. Classmates complained that he could be rude and uncompromising in emails. Prior tests are on course here. Make a groupme!!!
The course is easy but the professor lacks people skills and is disrespectful at times.
Basic stats class. If you know basic stats up to hypothesis testing, you're good. I don't recommend this professor if you're one to ask for help because he's extremely rude and disrespectful to students via email. He complains a lot about how things "aren't in his control." Kind of annoying. But the class is easy and straightforward.
Mr. Caputo is a wonderful professor, he is very clear on all the lessons and the overall spectrum of how the class is structured. He makes the class easy enough that it'd be very difficult to blame a low grade on him, if you happen to have a low grade that is your own dillemma
Dr. Matt is honestly a professor who now has a place in my heart for making me finally understand my most hated subject: Math. His lectures are clear and concise and even if you missed class the notes are posted online. If there is anything you didn't understand in class he will go over it with you in tutoring. Overall best math professor ever :D
Professor Caputo is one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about his students doing well. I am awful at math and I have always struggled to understand with countless tutors. Professor Caputo helped me achieve my hardest class without a sweat. I highly recommend taking him if you are someone who is not good at math!!!
Dr. Caputo is great at what he does. All homework is online, all quizzes are online. Must purchase class code, and also poppers (weekly) which count for your grade. Overall, a really easy class. Exam practice tests can add up to 10pts on every exam... I ended up with over 100 on this class. Easy A.
Cool professor and his teaching style made the class really easy. Poppers are easy as he goes over them in class, just make sure do your assignments and practice tests, easy A.
Dr. Caputo is a very intelligent guy, he is a bit strange with his clothes, heavy metal, tats, piercings, and dark literature he wrote. Besides that, he is very friendly and he allows you to correct your quizzes and test just so you can bring up your grade. He goes thru the lecture fast, put a lot of effort, but overall passed it with an A.
Usual for math class, 1-2 homework or quizzes per week. 4 test including Final. Extra-credit: 10% of practice test. He provides all answers to poppers, and slowly and clearly explains every material. You have to pay attention and practice. I recommend taking it online so you can go back to the class recordings to study. He is the best STAT teacher
Mr Caputo is easily one of the greatest professors at UH. He goes over each and every thing that will be covered on the exams, and provides extra sessions if you need help! he does daily poppers so make sure you attend class!
He was a great math teacher! Considering I am terrible at math he made everything so easy to understand which is amazing! He takes his time during lecture to break down the entire problem to where everyone understands and always answers any questions. He provides extra credits for doing practice test which is amazing. He wants everyone to pass.
He is an amazing professor and makes math really easy. Easy A+
Such a good teacher. really chill guy and good at explaining. Tests are just like practice tests, so you should get an easy A if you do all the practices. Gives up to 10 points extra cred per test. Attendance is mandatory, uses poppers
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER! I failed this same class at Lonestar, so took it again here and I ended up with an A. He explains every concept so well that you are guaranteed to understand it. He gives a lot of EC and is available to you any day. Exams are short (10 MC and 3 or 4 free response) and he still gives you up to 10 pts extra in each exam.
Super awesome professor! Quirky personality, which makes lectures a bit better. Mandatory attendance, he uses poppers. The tests are exactly like the practice tests/test reviews. Practice tests are used as extra credit! 4 tests, Final, Poppers, 15 homeworks, and about 25 quizzes.
Easy A if you show up and do your work. Daily poppers for attendance, tests aren't hard if you study. I didn't really go to class but the times i did he seemed really chill and was a good teacher
Taking him again for a winter mini. He is very clear in lecture and in his notes, and is very accessible for any extra help you may need. He provides very clear test reviews that out line pretty much everything that will be on the test along with practice tests for extra credit. Weekly homework and quizzes. Very highly recommend this professor.
All grading material is clear. Homework and quizzes seemed to be more difficult then the actual test. Do the test review and you will pass the test with no issues. He is a straight shooter and explains everything in emails and post. Was assessable outside of class but kind of rude when asked a question that had been addressed in email .. Be mindful
Took this class online. Very well organized class overall. Gives plenty of extra credit. Posts online lecture every Monday evening, easy to follow along. Quizzes every Saturday and homework due every Wednesday. Test were very similar to the reviews. Great professor , would definitely take again.
Dr. Caputo is very knowledgeable and teaches very well. He has helped me understand algebra very well and I always got an A on each test.
Please, pretty pleaseeee take Caputo ! His class is amazing . I hate math so much, but he made it so enjoyable with his witty comments. He does use poppers, but showing up to his class is worth it! He has an amazing personality and explains everything exactly to the point!
I'm so glad I took Math 1310 with Caputo. He is an amazing professor. He has poppers which marks your attendance. Poppers do affect your grade and we had a total of 5 tests. He makes algebra easy to understand and he gets you well prepared for the exams.
Prof Caputo is amazing! He clearly explains everything and will go over reviews like it's the real test. He is an amazing prof and will truly make you think that math isnt so hard. To prepare, print out the slides because half of the time on example problems are just writing them down- save time and print them out
You can definitely pass if you skip class. He posts very comprehensive videos online for Logic and they really help. Attendance in between exams is extra credit on the upcoming exam. Homework is not required but it helps to do for each exam. He emails back answers to questions and other than attendance, there is a lot of extra credit.
He was so clear when teaching and was always open to any kinds of questions and answered them clearly. He made math so easy to me honestly. I wrote down notes which helped me understand it better, but printing out the powerpoints saves some time so you can just write on them. His powerpoints were easy to read as well with his notes on them.
If I need to take another math class, I will go out of my way to make sure I can have Dr. Caputo as my prof. He's very relatable and easy to talk to about math, and just life in general. He always went above and beyond for the class! Although it was an auditorium class, it still felt personal. Best professor there is for this course!!
Dr. Caputo is an AMAZING professor! He thoroughly explains every step. You have 3 midterms and a final. Quizzes that are due every Saturday (u have 20 attempts) & your homeworks are due every Wednesday. Poppers are used as a form of attendance and extra set of questions to help you understand the lesson. (He goes over the answers with you) 20/10
SWEET PROFESSOR! I LOVE HIM! GIVES OUT A BUNCH OF EXTRA CREDIT!
Caputo is one of the best professors out there for Business Calc. I took Calculus in high school and even with a bit of knowledge taken from that class, I was still able to do well in this one. You're given Geogebra, a calculator, to do everything for you. You also use this on the exams. I got perfect scores on all four of them. Very easy class.
Pretty basic, 3 exams and option to opt of final if your grade is 80% or above. Homework and quiz every week. Clear instructions, available for tutoring
Do well on the first two exams and you could literally blow off the third and still be exempt from the final, make sure to do the HW and submit them on time, grades are dropped at the end so there is no reason to not do well. He is accessible during his office hours, pretty chill guy.
Professor Caputo is a great professor. He is very clear, helpful and knowledgeable. He explains concepts well and makes a difficult class feel easy. Weekly homework and quizzes were time consuming and annoying, but if you go to him, he walks you through them with ease. There 3 exams and you can exempt the final or drop the lowest test grade.
Easy A. Takes attendance grades so you must go to class but i found it easy enough to skip every once in a while. Tests are easy, taken at CASA centers. Professor is super nice and understanding.
He is a great professor and really knows how to teach. Pretty easy A, homework and quizzes are online, 4 tests at CASA, you can opt out of final.
Statistics is a pretty easy course. Caputo's lectures are helpful in understanding material, but thats where his help ends. He is VERY VERY rude to his students, not understanding AT ALL, and goes out of his way to email students back with sass and rudeness. I will be getting an A in the class, but Caputo does NOT deserve good ratings.
If you go to class and pay attention you'll pass.
He explains things really well and gives out studies guides (math 1310) which other 1310 professors did not get. Can not skip class because you need to do poppers everyday - many people will get a zero on them because he loses them but he said he cant do anything about it. He also email back in a very sassy way, but overall students really like him
This class is easy if you pay attention to his lectures and study before tests, his lectures are helpful and he explains things really well for you to grasp the concepts. Grades consist of weekly online quizzes, homework, exams, and attendance. Offers extra points on exams from practice tests. I always struggled in math but this class I didn't!!!
Hes a good teacher, moves fast but knows what hes talking about. You have two quizzes every week and one homework. A lot of work but you have many chances to get a good grade. Quizzes, poppers, and homework will carry you.
I highly recommend taking Professor Caputo he knows how to teach math in a easier way. He is always accessible for tutorials, and is willing to help you out before and after class hours to make sure you understand the lesson. He cares about his students success. If you attend to his lectures it should be an easy grade for the poppers. Take him.
There is a lot of online homework and quizzes. The material is relatively easy to understand. The lectures are fun and easy to digest.
Math is definitely not my strong suit, but this course made me feel like I was Pythagoras. Show up to class and take note of whatever you want. As a freshman, all of what was covered in this course was review from high school College Algebra and Pre-Calculus. You're crazy not to take 1311 with Caputo.
Caputo is an amazing professor for math 1310! He provides copies of every lecture, and even gives reviews for exams, which are pretty much replicas of questions you may see on the exams. Extra credit is given for each exam. Do expect a large amount of homework though, there is about 3 assignments that are due each week.
Professor Caputo is amazing at explaining all topics involved in this class. The online class is the best option because you can refer back to his lectures as much as you want and it really helps for exams. His test reviews are also similar to the actual exam! Lots of homework due every week so do not get lazy with those either. 10/10 class.
I had Caputo for College Algebra 1310. I haven't met a professor more involved, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the material they teach. Class notes are promptly uploaded online, he is receptive to questions, and is caring about his students. However, you will have to put work into this class, especially later on. I can't recommend him enough.
This is my second time taking Professor Caputo and will gladly keep taking him. I recommend him to all of my friends! He is very good at teaching and very easy to understand. He breaks down every problem enough to where it's impossible to get confused. Even if you do get confused, he is very good at answering questions.
Professor Caputo was literally one of my favorite professors entering as a college freshman. There is no reason why anyone should walk out of this class with anything lower than a B. He actively explains every problem into detail and most definitely prepares you for future success! I will for sure be taking him for statistics! Go Coogs!
PSA:PLEASE do yourself a favor and take Dr. Caputo. He is young, energetic and straightforward in his lectures. He will RARELY keep you the full class and he does not beat around the bush - everything he teaches will be on your exam. If you do well, you can exempt your final. If you take the pretest you get 5 points added to your test grade.
I loved this professor, his out of class test reviews really help! there is some hw but you can get through it pretty easliy and the test aren't bad. i defiently recommend this professor.
The tests are just like the review! If you keep practicing the review you WILL get an A on the test. He's a great professor and he is funny as well! Lectures are never boring with him and he is one of my favorite professors and I hope to have him again as a professor in the future.
Math is pretty straight forward, so is his class. Do the work, all extra credit & you should pass. But if you struggle with math like me, study, study, study. And don't expect any sympathy, he keeps the class strictly business. Cat died, car broke, etc. he'll tell you not his problem straight out. He's a good teacher just not anything extra.
Amazing professor. Weekly quizzes & three exams throughout the semester. Accessible outside of class during tutoring sessions. Would most definitely take again.
He gives students every opportunity to make an A. 20 attempts for online quizzes plus he replaces your lowest test grade with the grade of your final (assuming it's higher). You still have to stay on top of the weekly assignments but he saves the slides from class and is great about his office hours.
I took him online, and the class was very doable. You will be using Rstudio which is a big lifesaver, it basically does the statistics for you. If you think of using the calculator over Rstudio, don't do it. It will make you more stress later on. His tests were similar to the review and there was a lot of memorization needed to use on the test.
Professor Caputo is a great professor. All of the assignments are online. He provides a video for each section that is covered in the course. He also provides completed notes for each section! There are weekly homework and quizzes. You must memorize the formulas. He explains really well and his instructions are clear. TAKE HIM!!!!
Pretty straight forward and easy to understand lectures. While attendance isnt required, you do have to do poppers every day with makes up a percentage of your final grade. As far as home work and tests he just follows what the UH math department requires (1 hw and 3 quizzes a week, 4 test and a final)
Very rude when I just had a question.
The class is great. Caputo puts out all of the information for the week and although it takes a week or so to get used to the quizzing and homework schedule, he makes it as simple and effective as possible. Makes it very accessible to accomplish a good grade. However, notes are sometimes difficult to understand and follow.
Statistics is a tough class, however his lectures are thorough and since they are online you can go at your own pace. He has tutorial hours through Teams. Overall, it depends on the work you put in. Lectures are necessary to watch and you have a homework and a quiz every week which are very helpful in the long term.
All online with pre-recorded lectures. poppers and weekly quizzes. He gives out test reviews that are super helpful for the actual test.
Makes every lesson seem so easy. Replies to emails but sounds a little bit rude. Took him for a minimester and overall made a rough topic pretty easy
Reviews are just like his exams. Attendance not required but the poppers count as your attendance. The poppers are super easy. If you go to tutoring and need help w the hw, he will help!! Grading is the same as every uh math class.
Super straightforward and easy class. Tests are very identical to the reviews. He also has tutoring hours every week just to help students. He is very hilarious too at times, I enjoyed him. Only downfall is , he could be rude in emails sometimes, but maybe that is just his demeanor. Super easy A.
horrible. so rude and unhelpful
This class wasnt bad honestly. The only problem is the professor is disrespectful even towards students like me who perform well in class.
If you did well in high school algebra, this will be an easy A class. There are 4 exams with a cumulative final, but Dr. Caputo gives really good reviews and his online lectures are easy to follow. Make sure to ALWAYS do the reviews for the exams. There is also 2 quizzes per week, but they each have 20 attempts (so it's easy to make a 100).
Great teacher! His lectures were great and informative despite being online. The lectures are pre-recorded and the class times are for tutoring if needed. The pre-recorded lectures are nice because you can take time to understand them. Everything was clear and the practice test and homework helped a lot. Take his class if you want a good teacher!
Extremely rude and seems like he does not even want to help students
HE WAS THE BEST MATH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD. He taught College Algebra in such an easy manner, I really loved it and I was never confused. This is coming from a person who hates math.
I took this class asynchronously online, but it was still fairly easy! He explains very well and works you through the problems. If you watch the videos/pay attention it's an easy A!
this class was easy for me because its mostly everything from high school. I took during COVID so everything was online, but everything was easy and accessible. he has good lectures and gives a fair amount of example. take practice for extra credit and those help A LOT as well!!!
Easy asynchronous class. I took him for a winter mini. As long as you stay on top of your stuff you should pass with a high grade. Lectures are exactly what the tests are like. Do the practice tests on CASA to get up to 5% extra credit on the exam. Practice tests are similar to the actual tests. Just pay attention to dates and deadlines.
He has an awesome New York accent!! Take him because it's fun to listen to. He's also a very good professor who clearly knows what he's doing and how to teach. I enjoyed class and really learned the material. But most importantly the accent is neat. 10/10 accent, cannot stress this enough.
He's not a bad math professor, but he doesn't really care about his students' feelings and will capitalize on any moment to make you feel as dumb as possible. If you struggle with math I would not suggest him as he is not all that compassionate.
I also took Dr C for Math 1310. Really liked his teaching style. he keeps things organized, explains well, and his expectations are clear. I'd recommend for sure. Only problem (which may have just been me) is that sometimes his lecture videos randomly scroll in and you can't see what he's doing. Super frustrating, follow with his completed notes.
Rude and inconsiderate, class was not too hard but his videos were subpar, had a problem with zooming in and not showing the work sometimes. Overall, annoying but fairly easy class
Pretty simple class. Professor seemed a bit rude at times but he was still helpful. You have quiz, homework, and poppers each week. Tests are easy as long as you understand how to do the questions on practice test and review (focus more on the review because it is more like it). Extra credit is available on each test.
Dr. Caputo is an awesome professor! He posts his pre-recorded lectures a week before so u can get ahead. The class consisted of weekly homework + quizzes, 3 tests, and a final. For the tests, if u focus on the reviews he posted + the practice tests, u can def get an A. ALSO, practice tests can give u 5 pts extra credit on tests so DO IT!
Makes you work for it. Theres a homework assignment & 2 quizzes due every week, the videos are pretty helpful, and will give bonus points if you do the review, but the tests are much harder than the review. Hes also kinda mean he doesnt like dealing with any excuses for late work and you must have proof if ur sick or have a loved one pass away??
Lectures were straightforward. Plenty of extra credit opportunites. He even drops your lowest quiz grade, and 2 lowest homework grades. Your final exam grade can replace your lowest test grade if it helps your grade. It's an easy pass if you listen to the lectures and do the work.
Dr. Caputo's lectures made statistics easy to understand. If you do the homework and quizzes, you'll probably get a good grade in this class. The quizzes may be taken up to 20 times and only the highest score counts, plus you get extra points for taking practice tests. Just don't miss the due dates because he doesn't accept late work.
Typical CASA structed class. Caputo would upload pre recorded lectures every Friday consistently.
Has a lot of lectures. He dropped two quizzes and hw grades and replaces a lower test grade if your final exam grade is higher. I LOVED Caputo! He is an amazing professor in Algebra and really knows what he is teaching. His tests are exactly the same as his practice tests but do not bother him with dumb questions because he will not put up w/ you
He is an amazing professor and most bad reviews are due to students making him upset with bad emails or disrespectful students Personally, I didn't reach out to him since his lectures explained everything perfectly, I retook him after I got an A in his Algebra course and I definitely do not regret him he is a great professor Just be on top of it!
I didnt like the way he responds to certain emails, but the class is very easy.
I wouldn't recommend this professor if you are looking for an instructor who will actually care about you being successful in their class. They make the course work unnecessarily difficult to access and will capitalize on any opportunity to denounce their students. Is not helpful at all, in regards to a technical issue and will blame you for it.
worst professor ever! very unprofessional. belittles students for asking simple questions. responds to emails pertaining to concerns about the class in the class as if he is a teenager confronting someone over snapchat. do not reccomend.
Never felt more uncomfortable in my life
Was not helpful or compassionate at all to my situation. Do not take his class!!
Caputo is okay. Sometimes he will completely skip things that are on the quizzes and tests but if you go to class, you will be fine. Take advantage of the quizzes and practice tests because that is how you will learn in his class and there is some extra credit.
1 quiz and 1 homework every week. Lectures are easy to understand as long as your paying attention. He does tend to get annoyed when people ask questions though.
I'm someone who really struggles with math, but Caputo made it so easy to understand everything, so I never failed any of the exams, and the fact that a lot of the math work is done through calculators/R-Studio helps a lot too. However, homework is due every Wednesday and a quiz every Saturday. Gets a little overwhelming at times, but it's doable
Study the lectures, do the practice tests, work to do well on quizzes and the homework. The kind of problems you are taught are the exact kinds of problems that will be on the test. Class is straightforward and deadlines are reasonable. My tip is to do the quizzes and homework right after its assigned lecture, so you don't forget. You'll pass dw.
Dr. Caputo is absolutely amazing! Honestly, I've never been good at stats but in his class I shined and did so well. His entire class is straight forward and clear, he gives bonus points on exams, extra credit, and he is so relatable too. Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had.
Very simple class. About 2 easy quizzes and one homework assignment per week or two. Very nice and well spoken professor. He isn't boring and the class is always busy. Great class to complete a math credit.
Great professor, college algebra was just harder than expected. He uploads notes taken in class, so even if you don't show up you can still stay on track. Extra credit is offered for all tests so take advantage. There are more quizzes than HW, but it is manageable (I took 2 math courses at the same time).
Took him for a winter mini course and I couldn't regret it more. Tests are all written response, no multiple choice questions. He seems like a cool professor but his style of teaching simply didn't do it for me. Learned mostly from outside videos & exercises. DON'T take his winter mini.
He's good at explaining the concepts and will answer questions during class if you have any. His lessons and reviews are comprehensive, and he's pretty funny too. I'd recommend him for algebra, he's a solid choice
He gives you the answer to pop quizzes and that is your attendance credit. He teaches super fast but posts notes online. Attendance is mandatory for pop quizzes and because it's best to see and hear him work each problem out. He also has messy handwriting that is hard to read which is also another reason to attend class in person as scheduled.
He was definitely one of the best math professors I've had. He was super fun and taught very effectively. He was very organized and all his lectures were accessable online. Tests were in person but he always provided a review.
Awesome professor. His examples in class are clear unlike other profs. If you try, you'll pass the class.
I was never confused in professor Caputo's class. He explained everything extremely well, and he always made the class fun. He would go in depth to explain problems if someone had a question, and he was always very kind. Would definitely recommend.
Professor Caputo is a great teacher. If you attend his class and pay attention you can easily get a good grade. The only complaint I would have is his handwriting is hard to understand sometimes and he goes a little too fast during his lectures but he does take the time to answer questions and go over the problems whenever somebody is confused.
Nothing but love for professor Caputo
Professor Caputo is a great professor, nothing but respect and admiration for him. The tests and exams are always really easy and if you show up to his class and pay attention, you'll have a guaranteed A. He cares about his students a lot and is also easily accessible if you need help. Also just really really fun.
Professor Caputo is amazing. Not only are his lectures more engaging than any other classes I got, but he constantly makes sure we understand the material. The exams are easy, just show up to class and pay attention and of course to the homework! You won't regret it.
He is fine at teaching math but he is extremely condescending and rude. Will respond to simple questions in the most patronizing ways possible and is obviously not interested in making sure students are excited about learning.
So I am actually quite terrible at math. Dr. Caputo explains topics in a way so they are easily understood. The homework is actually harder than the exams. There are many assignments due weekly so you will have to stay on your Ps and Qs. I would recommend checking every few days to see what's upcoming. His exam reviews are extremely helpful.
Dr. Caputo was amazing. Took him for College Algebra and will definitely recommend him. Attendance is "required" but he posts the lecture poppers online so as long as you look at the notes daily, you can get attendance credit. Medium workload, two quizzes (12-15 questions each) and one homework (20 questions) per week.Def recommend for CAlgebra.
He is a very good teacher and does a great job at explaining the material and answering questions. He is also very good at communicating with students through email and the work load is not bad and the class overall is super easy.
I recommend Professor Caputo to anyone who has to take math 1342. He is very understanding and provides many resources for students to prepare for each exam. Take advantage of the first two tests and extra credit because the third test is significantly more difficult.
Super funny, kind, and entertaining in lectures. Quizzes and homework are due every week. Structure of 3 exams is EXACTLY like the reviews. You can opt-out the final if you're B- or higher. Using R-Studio saves LOTS of time when calculating than doing it by hand, so please know the commands. He is such a joy to have as a professor and it's easy.
If I could describe Dr. Caputo in three words, it would be caring, funny, and interesting. Dr. Caputo is the easiest professor you can talk to without worries about formality, he is very very caring and overall makes it very fun to be in his class and learn. On that note, he teaches very well, even for people who aren't the best at mathematics.
An absolute amazing professor! The practice tests were almost identical to the exams and he truly knows how to teach the material. He never hesitates when questions r being asked and ( he will often repeat things if he notices confused faces ) You are guaranteed an A if u just show up to class be attentive and practice.
Amazing professor, if he teached pre-calculus I would take him again. This man is hilarious, but always going through something.Ttake him if you get the chance!
Professor Caputo is one of the most entertaining professors that I've had the pleasure of taking in my four years at UH. Beware of the crazy emails that he sends sometimes, he had his car break down one time and the email we received was priceless. There is a lot of homework and quizzes so make sure to set time aside to do them.
Can talk through any questions needed. lenient grader, well designed course
Not a reasonable professor. I had an issue I went to school at the UH PGH IT office and assisted me but we were having problems with setting the commands on R Studio. I sent an email to Caputo with no patience and compassion when I talked to him about the programming. Close to the end of the course session all my grades weren't in the grade book.
Very poor communication no compassion, is extremely condescending and has an attitude when you ask a question or for help, would not recommend taking a class with him unless you want to get reprimanded for asking about something that confuses you. Will make you feel stupid.
This professor taught in an easy to understand way and actively encouraged people to ask questions if they were confused. Attendance is mandatory, but if you just look at the completed notes and complete the questions on the day they're posted, you get marked as present. Overall, the class was very easy and I finished the semester with over a 100.
Professor Caputo was very helpful outside of class. Though this class had a lot of work, Professor Caputo would give a good amount of time to complete it. The exams at times were difficult but not too bad. I would Recommend Professor Caputo !00%.
Everything is well organized. It's easy to get an A if you follow instructions.
Dr. Caputo is great. You'll do well if you do the work. His lectures give you everything you need to work out the material. Take lots of notes, do the quizzes, homework, and practice tests, and ask questions if you need to. Try hard and you'll have no problem passing.
Best Math professor I've ever had. Take him.
Prof. Caputo tried his best to teach students accurately and answer all questions asked in the best way he could. My only gripe is that lectures were confusing until review day.
He cares about everyone and goes out of his way to provide help so you pass. So nice and cares about his students.
You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and the work he does. One quiz and homework due a week, and online video notes are posted after his lectures onto his Canvas. Amazing teacher with a great heart, I would definitely recommend taking his class if you can :)
Dr. Matt is goofy and knowledgeable and makes math not as horrible as usual. He is always willing to explain things more thoroughly and work with students individually during his extensive tutoring hours. Is willing to work around personal situations to help you pass the class and make you feel like you earned. Overall great guy.
Professor Caputo is honestly an amazing professor. He's really empathetic towards students and is willing to work with you to make sure you do well. No doubt this is a hard class but he'll make sure you understand the concept and help you understand. I 100% RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!
He is a good teacher sure, but he is so sarcastic and rude when it comes to asking him questions about the . He thinks it's funny to respond to students in an inappropriate and rude manner and doesn't care if you have a serious situation going on he will just give you a late grade. DO NOT take him for mini session Math 1342.
Sent us an email in our second week that we were deteriorating his health and that we were a bunch of grown up babies who were the worst students he had ever taught. I took his 9 AM class... OK professor with lots of HW and quizzes and 4 exams. Overall I think he needs some seriously mental help.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. WORST PROFESSOR EVER. HE DOES NOT REPLY BACK TO EMAILS. TAKES FOREVER TO GRADE YOU ASSIGNMENTS. HE IS VERY RUDE TO STUDENTS AND OVER ALL IS NO HELP AT ALL. IF YOU STRUGGLE AT MATH DO NOT TAKE HIM.
dr. matt is a great professor. his class is pretty much the same every week: 3 attendance poppers (he gives answers), 2 quizzes and one hw. yeah he hates emails but if you're in the group me you shouldn't have any questions. his tests aren't too bad if you study well. i highly recommend him for college algebra
3 exams and final, attendance poppers, quizzes, and homework. I learned from watching videos instead of his lectures but he sometimes elaborates on certain topics. He also gives extra credit on exams if you do the practice test. Join Group Me to help with any questions you might have.
Not bad, even though I got a C-, these extra credit. He doesn't like emails, but with my experince he replied back fast to mine, usually if I needed help I woulf just go to his office hours instead of emails, more effective.
Math is not my strongest subject, but Dr. Matt really made it easy. Tests are ironically easier than the Homework and Quizes. He doesn't really respond to emails, but posts lectures on canvas. I ended with a B, but I think I would've ended with a B+ or A- if i went to class. My best advice is to go to class and ask questions.Great professor!
The way he teaches is extremely simple. He explained the lessons very well, would review the lesson if some students were confused. 10/10
Dr. Matt is great at making math easy. His lectures are straightforward forward and he is always willing to go back to answer questions in class. All his lectures are posted on Canvas which helps a lot when you have to miss. He doesn't answer emails but that never really bothered me personally.
At the beginning of the semester, he emailed his students accusing us of abusing him, out of nowhere. He was very unpleasant and could be pretty unhelpful. He had us use R Studio on assignments and tests. I didn't learn anything from this class; I learned R Studio commands enough to do okay in the class, but I don't understand statistical concepts.
Professor Caputo can be a bit sarcastic, but he really cares about his students. Attend class, do the work, and utilize resources like Unstuckstudy - it'll pay off. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding course.
