Good teacher. Tests are OK but misleading at times. Don't depend on the review sheets, he puts soo much in there and then only about 20% of the content you study is in the exams. Brevard Campus
I took TWO classes simultaneously with him. It was HORRIBLE! Study guides are RIDICULOUS! By the time I finished answering the study guide questions, I had almost 20 pages! Takes himself and his classes WAYYYYY to seriously! This is NOT graduate work! I H
This guy is full of crap. He is very, very full of himself (can't understand why) and very opinionated. His tests are difficult but passable. with lots of hard work ON MY OWN, I was able to get an A:)
Has anyone ever took him for EXP 3404? I'm taking EXP 3404 with him in Spring 2005.
He is one of the best teachers I have taken. I liked his teaching style. He was open to discussions on any idea you had. He was very clear in his explanations. I never studied for his test and passed them based on his teaching ability. Awesome!!!
Chin is a decent teacher. You don't have to go to lecture every time, but every once in a while he will throw something in on the tests (which are easy as long as you take brief notes on his lectures and read the book a little). If you like psych his class is pretty simple. He does a good job of elaborating on what he is talking about with examples
Social Psychology with Dr. Chin is okay...his lecture style is dry at times, but other days he's got the entire class laughing. It's also the class I've noticed the least difference in attendence between start and finish. The lecture hall is still mostly packed, almost the entire way through the semester. Not too hard, but not too easy, either.
Boring, dry, and waste of time...take someone else, especially for research methods. he is a terrible teacher
I hate this man, his tests are so confusing. He said they are straight from the notes and the reading but that is not true. Do not take this class it is a load of crap.
Aviod at ALL costs! Aviod at ALL costs! He is the worst teacher ever. He makes you do some weird way to do medium that is mind boggling. Save yourself the pain, AVIOD AT ALL COSTS!
Chin is an awesome teacher! he really seems to care about his students and is always answering every single question anyone posts on web ct even at 12 am. he has a good sense of humour and i enjoyed his classes, and as long as you study, his tests are not hard. research methods is just a hard class, but he drops your two lowest quiz grades.
I got a good grade in his class, but his tests are completely misleading. Final is cumulative with no review (regardless of stupid TA's that don't know anything), and the classes themselves will put you to sleep. Most of the time me and a friend were playing PSP or watching screwed up video clips on the laptop. Don't bother with this class.
I also took him for research methods. His quizes and tests are extremely confusing and misleading, even though you know the material, it will be very confusing. He answers every question in Webct, but still i didn't like him as a professor. He is boring and will give u a hadr time.
The class sucks, but it's required for the psychology major and minor. He's probably the easiest person to take for Research Methods. The only thing about the class that sucked was the Lab portion, but that's because TA's think they're teachers. You can get a B easily in this class, and with Extra Credit and A is more than possible.
Don't waste your time! He showed up 30 mins late on a quiz day because he waited until the last min to make copies and the machine broke, he rescheduled on the day of Spirit Splash. And on the day of the Final he showed up 30 min late without and explanation or an apology and had a high and mighty attitude. Shouldn't be teaching. He's an idiot!
This man is by far the best teacher I have had at UCF. He knows a great deal about statistics and he always helps students, even when they email late at night. However, you should only take this class if you are willing to study. Research Methods is a hard class for anyone.
Up until the final I thought this was an okay class. I had a 95 going into the final, but the day of the exam he showed up 30 minutes late, the test was impossibly hard, and I ended up running out of time. I'm now going to get a B in a class that I deserve an A in. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!
Funny guy makes classes interesting. Social psych is an interesting class anyway. Sends his powerpoints to you on webct in case you miss a class. Not an Easy class, but if you do some studying and know your stuff you can get an A.
Any "professor" that shows up thirty minutes late to the final exam is in my opinion very unprofessional. There was no apology given for the fact that our time was obviously not of value.
he was late for the final, but he apologized on web ct and let students stay as late as they wanted to finish the exam. hes a great teacher, very helpful and caring.
Hard class. I had a high B in the class & after his horrible final my grade dropped to a C. The class average for the final was an F yet he refused to curve it. He was frequently late to class or even if he was on time he spends 20 mins letting people come up & ask questions they should ask after class so class always starts late.
I had an A in both his classes until the final exams, which covered inconcievable amounts of material and the entire class failed. So essentially, one test pretty much exempts everything you've done previously & determines your grade. It's not that Dr. Chin isn't concerned for his students, so much as he's dogmatic and inflexible. Don't recommend h
Dr Chin is a hard professor and the final does have a lot of weight. But he is hard working and you end up leaving with SOME knowledge. Isn't that why we are in school? So take him if you want to learn. Don't be mediocre!! He is hard-working and cares about his students. Research Methods is a sucky subject anyways.
Uses powerpoint slides to teach the class.
Teaches all from powerpoints but he doesn't really go the extra mile to make sure u learn. It's basically up to you. He's kinda quirky and his quizzes are pretty straightfoward...no tricks. He just isn't a very good professor as far as lecturing.
Good Class! Very nice teacher. Study if you want an A!
Pretty easy class. Study if you want an A. Lab is most of your grade. If you miss one you lose half a letter grade. Do well on papers and you'll pretty much get an A or B
Professor Chin is ridiculous when it comes to tests and quizzes. He is a nice guy, and he will let you look over your quizzes, but nothing will compare to the final. Even if you read the chapters and go to class, there is no guarantee that you will get an A or a B. My advice is to not take him unless you absolutely have to.
Exam was stupid har, and it counts for 27% of your grade. Class average was a 60. Try and find a diff professor.
Chin is a decent professor. However, he teaches directly from a powerpoint, and digresses a LOT. Otherwise, he's very good with answering questions and more than willing to explain further. You are pretty much guaranteed a B as long as you attend labs, and an A if you actually end up learning something for the final (unlike most of the people here)
The instructor is ok except for his final is harsh. Over half the class failed it yet he refused to curve anything. I had an A going into the final and then POOF, it was gone in an instant (despite studying for the final for 1-2 hours a day for 2 weeks).
very hard tests, very confusing subject metter altogether unless you are amazing at statistics. Quizzes and tests very difficult, very boring teacher. teaches from powerpoints. if you go to all labs and classes and actually study then a B. Much effort needed for this class.
I love this guy, he was very entertaining and easy. His tests are not that difficult, you just have to study. Its common sense you have to study and know the information in order to get an A in any class. He is very smart and I would take him again.
I've had him 3 times. He's nice, and very helpful out of class during office hours. He is extreemly research-based professor. Hard tests (Research Methods is VERY hard with him). Most of his classes if you know the deffinitions of the words/terms in the book you are good to go. He taught me alot but it wasn't the most fun class.
Ehhh... Not really impressed. Tests were challenging and the class average was consistently an 80/82%. Would not really recommend this professor.
Research methods is a hard clas in general, but this professor is UNHELPFUL and really hard. Its like he trys to fail you.. I have have him for 3 classes now and his tests are hard.. i study so much and still get 60's..... They are only 15 or 25 questions long... DONT TAKE him if you want to keep your GPA up
I think that Dr. Chin is a great professor. He is always willing to answer questions and is always reminding students to come during office hours. His tests are't the easiest but if you pay attetion there's no way you can fail!
Contrary to what most other people said, I thought research methods with chin was really easy. I didn't miss class which helped a lot and his quizzes are straighforward from lecture and the little blurbs you have to read in the book. The papers are the hardest part but even then they arent too hard. I got an A. This was my easiest class this sem.
Dr. Chin is awful. I dont know what these people are talking about.. He is challenging and likes to make you fail... He is not helpful and his tests are scattered... no matter how much i studied, i still got D's he SUCKS..and i hate him
Awful professor. I asked one question the first week of class and he was so condescending to me, I didn't want to ask anything else all semester. He seems to think we should all be experts and that everything is so "simple". Take someone else.
I didn't have a problem in my Social Psychology class with Dr. Chin. He was always helpful with questions, and went slow on the powerpoints and explained them in great details. Grades were always posted within hours, and he didn't mind going over them with you if you needed it. If you attend class and pay attention it's hard not to make at a B.
Does not teach well at all. He assumes the students who choose not to go to class are the lower scoring students. This assumption is incorrect. My grades improved after no longer showing up to class. He is a horrible teacher. Your only hope for passing is a good study group, teaching yourself, or getting a tutor.
This class is not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm not sure what people are talking about, I came to class and read the book and understood the material fine. He takes some questions from the reading on case studies for the quizzes so do the reading. You can earn up to 20 points extra credit. If you work hard you can get an A.
I took him for two classes in 1 semester. He is straight forward. Go to class, take lots of notes (don't just copy the PP slides) and do the reading you will get a good grade. He curved our final and gave EC in the class. He is fair but by no means an easy A. The final was very difficult, cummulative and 30% of the final grade for the class.
I really liked him, thought he was funny, very at ease, knew what he was doing and was very approachable.
This class was so boring I could not take it. I like Dr. Chin I have had him before but if you don't like sitting and listening to research study after study then don't take this class. He's nice and class is easy but just dull.
He's a good teacher, he answers every question. He posts the powerpoints online and is quick to make a response on Webcourses. The grades are posted on Webcourses pretty quickly. His TAs have review sessions before the quizes. He also drops your 2 lowest quiz grades.
HORRIBLE. I would not reccomend this class to anyone. Quizzes are hard, he has an optional final if you want to drop two quizzes and you will most definitely have to which means youll be taking the final. Find a different teacher.
Not particularly easy class. deadly boring and he cant teach math/statistics part of research method to save his own life. i went to class, earned mid B and he took off half a letter grade cause i missed ONE day of lab. gave me 79.75% and refused to round it to a B. DO NOT TAKE HIM
This class is really interesting, I would recommend attending class because sometimes he may ask a question on a test that he only went over during a lecture, but if you miss class don't worry he posts the notes online. His lectures for the most part really fun to listen too.
I had Chin for human-animal and research methods. I think he's great. His lectures are fun because he cracks himself up. He gives reviews and as long as you go over everything before tests you will do fine. He's great about answering questions and breaks down concepts such as statistics so that anyone can understand. RECOMMENDED!
hes funny and teaches in a way that is easy to understand.
Don't listen to other people, they were just lazy, he is a GREAT professor and made statistics easy and interesting. You do have to work for this class, but that's not Chin's fault. Word of advice, GO TO CLASS and TAKE ALL QUIZZES to substitute for final, because his final is VERY hard - but I didn't take it and still got an A
Straight-forward tests. Allows you to drop lowest two if you take the optional final. You need to go to class to understand the material because it is often abstract and counter-intuitive. I had a good experience with his teaching.
hes a really cool guy and a great techer if you can take him for an easy class and an interesting experience.
Do not listen to these crazy people! Chin was one of my favorite professors. He was extremely helpful. He always posted extra review questions for quizzes on webcourses. I missed quite a few classes and still ended up with a 97. Most of the quizzes cover one equation that he gives you. Go to the labs and you'll do fine.
dr.chin is a nice man but it is kind of a tough class and boring.we had a couple relatively easy papers.lab attendance was required.class harder if you dont go to lecture.quizzes kind of hard too. but still doable if you study and pay attention. optional final if u take all quizzes.i got a B in the class.
Pretty good professor, go to class and do the extra homework that he gives, study, write good papers, and you'll get an A.
Great guy. Very helpful. If you pay attention and do ok on all nine quizes (15 questions) you will not have to take the final. 4 papers 1 oral presentation at end of semester (have not done that yet. I like him. Other people are crazy. If you can do basic statistics and can write an easy paper for Psycology then you will be fine. Highly Recommended
I've had Dr. Chin for 4+ classes. He is an excellent teacher, but it is very hard to get an A in his class. If you are into putting forth quite a bit of effort and recieving a B, take him...
This class is hard, he is easy to understand but there is a lot of material covered both in lecture and lab. Make sure you do well on the quizez. He is a nice man but the material is ridiculous
Dr. Chin is a great teacher! Grade is based on 5 quizzes and an optional final (replaces one quiz). If you study the straight-forward lecture notes (he puts them online), the book, and skim the articles, it is easy to get an A. Plus, the material is really interesting. I would definitely recommend Dr. Chin as a teacher for social psych!
I like Chin. I don't think he is boring at all. He teaches well and keeps it interesting. He isn't highly controversial and outspoken like most Psych professors are but I appreciate that kind of respectfulness. He has been late before though so I do understand that frustration.
If you read the book and understand the material, then you dont have to come to class. Just read his notes, posted online. But, he's SOOO good at explaining the material, that I go to class and hear his lecture and that's how I've managed to pass his class. And he gives extra credit!
I love Mr. Chin! He's really cool. He puts part of his lectures online so you can print it out and follow along. His tests aren't that hard and he makes class interesting and he jokes around so it's not boring. Social Psych was great with him. Definitely want to take other classes with him!
Dr. Chin is extremely helpful both in lecture and answering e-mails. If you read the book, attend class, and ask questions if you are unclear about information, you will do fine. His class is so easy because he relates the informaiton to real life...it is your job to apply the knowledge.
I loved Dr. Chin. Research methods is a very hard class, but he does an excellent job explaining the material. The quizzes are not easy, so make sure you study. Papers are ok, submit the optional drafts and you will do fine. Dr. Chin was always available to answer questions. Utilize those office hours.
Took his social psych class, pretty much what i expected. Grade had 5 quizzes and a comp final, drop lowest quiz (so if you were happy /w your grade, no final). Puts powerpoints online, you can do okay just teaching yourself. Easy to get a B, A is manageable but you'll need to attend class.
Good, funny teacher. Tries best to keep powerpoints engaging. Goes over the important experiments and info in class, so it definitely helps to go. 5 quizzes, you can drop the lowest and take the comprehensive final if you want. Offers extra credit. Would recommend.
Social Psych is a fun class. He has a pretty good way of presenting it. The tests are predictable and fair (maybe a little too easy). The material keeps you interested though...fascinating.
I love Dr. Chin. He has a wonderful and witty way of getting the material across. Papers and projects are fun and easy. Tests need a good deal of studying. You HAVE to read the assigned reading or you'll fail the tests. Books are great though! Highly recommend. Will take again. Looks like I'll get a B+ in the class.
Dr. Chin has good teachin methids.. he just TRIED to be funny a little to much instead of focusing on the lesson. he can easliy wonder off topics into stories. but the class was pretty managable 5 quizzes could drop your lowest quiz for the final. alot of reading SUPER LONG articles. but if you go to class and read you should be alright.
Dr. Chin is a very good professor, explains every lecture in detail, but his test are HARD, very confusing. I had to study a lot for his test more than for CHEM. Expect a lot of reading and a lot of studying. I won't take him again!
Dr. Chin is a great teacher. He does really well in making the information easy to understand and he's always willing to meet for office hours if additional help is needed. The tests are not hard if you go to class and read the book. I have him for 2 classes now and would definitely take him again!
The quizzes aren't horrible, you just have to read. And read the articles, which are a complete pain, but they are the questions you will miss. He repeats himself a lot and goes slowly, it's a little monotonous.
The lecture is math (concepts and application - same material as PSY3204 w/ diff formulas) and the lab is SPSS and writing papers. The papers are not hard, esp. if you already know APA. some quizzes were hard, def. read the articles. Willing to help outside of class and doesn't keep lectures for the full time
Tests are not easy but do-able. Material comes from all over the place so you have to know how to study. There is a very small amount of extra credit. He is interesting though. However there are probably more favorable professors
the tests are hard and you have to READ tonsssss..
Prof. Chin is a great teacher, though sometimes he has a habit of repeating himself. The class is not a free ride, there is readings that HAVE to be done if you want to pass. The notes come from the book, though he does have some test questions that are not in his notes. I really enjoyed his class, you had to earn your grade.
Textbook is necessary. Go to class b/c there are notes that you can't get anywhere else. Quizzes are multiple choice. Each quiz requires you to also read at least 4 articles. Also you will receive a lot of mail from other students asking for notes. Don't give them any. These are the people who skip class and try to take advantage of nice people.
9 quizzes, 4 papers, and a group presentation. Final exam is optional if you take all 9 quizzes. If you are good at statistics and writing in APA format, then this class will not be that difficult. The statistics are pretty much the same as from Statistical Methods of Psychology. Do as much extra credit as you can. It pushed me from a B to an A.
Class was interesting, tests were OK as long as you read the book and attended lecture. Dr. Chin keeps lectures interesting.
I am a Psych major and had to drop this class. As horrible as it seems he is a clear and interesting professor but his test are awfully hard. I studied all the notes, read all the books and still managed to get lower than 70'S in all his test.
I took this class for soc. Psychology. You MUST go to class, and take notes. Along with that you must study for longer than 2hours for the tests. With this said, isn't this how college classes are supposed to be like? I loved his class, though sometimes the lectures got a little dull. You will get your moneys worth out of this class. Book is needed
Prof. Chin is so nice! He tries really hard to make the classes interesting because you do need to show up to class. He posts the notes online, but there's blanks in them that you fill in during the lecture. Both books are a must. He's very helpful and understanding if you have a question or concern. I plan on taking one of his classes again!
Dr. Chin is a great professor. Class is not that hard, but textbook is required for questions on test. Must go to class to get notes (leaves parts blank on powerpoint), but he makes it pretty fun if you go.
Hard class, I managed to get an A due to studying 20 hours a week. Very nice guy, funny and keeps class interesting. I would not recommend taking him because the class is extremely difficult for a lower-level Gen ed course.
He is terrible and his quizes are impossible, 30 minute time limit and he asks essay and short answer questions that can't be revisited. Never take his classes!
Class requires a lot of studying. Class attendance not mandatory but if you don't go you'll be lost. Lab can get really boring but attendance is mandatory. The lab reports count for a big chunk of your grade. I didn't do exceptionally well on quizzes but got all A's on the labs so ended up with B in the class. Do the extra credit, it helps.
I took this class online and found it to be incredibly difficult. There are 4 group papers that involve a lot of effort and stress and 9 difficult quizzes that you can only take in a two day span. Notes are extremely confusing, quizzes are worded terribly, and papers are graded very harshly by TA's.
Was nervous about taking this online but now glad I did bc I could set my own pace (i'm slow with math). There were 9 quizzes and if all were taken u could use ur quiz avg as ur grade on the final or take the final and drop 2 quizzes. 4 group papers. EC available. Got stuck with dud groupmembers but got extra points for doing more work. Got an A =)
Go to every class and study all the material for each quiz you should do fine. His quizzes are not that hard if you studied, he does not pull a question out of no where. As for the statistics, its all very basic and he goes over every single problem that will be on the quiz in his slides. He explained everything extremely well! I got an A!
This class is tough online, especially if you don't have a solid statistics background. Some of the quizzes are tough too, you do have to read the material. The majority of the grade is group projects and half of my group literally never showed, so that made it VERY tough, but I got extra points to make-up for it.
I think this class was easier than stats. All the formulas are given for tests and you go over the same info. You only need the experimental book. The notes are online but incomplete so I'd go to class. Quizzes are fair, got a high B on most. The lab is easy and brings your grade up but the group papers can be annoying depending on the people.
This class is not difficult if you study for all nine quizzes and attend every class. I got an 82 average on all nine quizzes and just really high A's for the the lab papers and got an A in the class. Quiz question come out of the MS book and statistics problems taught in class. The statistics portion of the class was very easy and basic.
Take Dr. Chin for research methods! he explains everything extremely well! For a 5 credit class he make things fairly easy
I liked the idea of having 9 quizzes rather than the traditional 4 tests bc each quiz tested you on 1 chapter, rather than a test testing you over like 5 chapters. once you were done with a quiz you had the option of never seeing that chapter again unless you wanted to take the final. YOU MUST TAKE ALL 9 QUIZZES IF YOU DONT WANT TO TAKE THE FINAL.
Once I counted how many times he said "LIKE" in a 50 minute class. It was 67. No prof should say "like" more than once a minute. Goes off on these weird hypothetical tangents that confuse that hell out of you. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
Took this class in 6 weeks. Example: 1 wk - 2 research articles, 17 page module, and about 40 links of articles/videos all for a 20 question, knit-picky quiz. Fun class, but too much work for what it's worth, and I'm a 4.0 student that is used to loads of work from other teachers. I'm not complaining, I'm just being honest. Class is not cake.
I took the accelerated 6 week summer version of his course. It was extremely difficult to keep up with the reading. Nice that he provides the reading and doesnt require a book though. If you dont mind reading 20 page modules and 20 articles a week then this class is easy as cake. Plenty of opportunity for extra credit also.
The psychology of human and animal interaction class I took was really, really easy, but professor Chin seemed to have a hard time grading things. It wasn't unusual to wait for two weeks to get my grades. However, he didn't require a book and his modules were interesting and informative. I would still definitely recommend him and this class.
He was an amazing professor, and I honestly felt at times he tried so hard to dumb down the material to us. The people who didn't like him were either too lazy to study for the quizzes or work hard. The quizzes were super easy. If you study and understand the lecture notes, you should get an A. Plus there's extra credit, A is definitely doable.
Do not, do not, do not take this teacher for online classes, if you can help it. He throws stuff at you very last minute early on in the semester. Just a warning, if you take research methods online, get your work down asap because things start to get very messy the third week or so.
The class isn't hard, the problem is actually having the will to pay attention and study. The class seemed to be SOO BORING to me that I could barely sit down and review the chapters or lecture notes. But if you can bare it, then you should be fine and pass with an A.
One of the best instructors at UCF. Knows his stuff and will try his hardest to help us succeed. He's also a lot more down to earth and easy going than some of the other professors at UCF.
This course was a nightmare, beyond boring, got stuck with a dud TA for lab and useless group members. Grading for group papers is a joke. Could barely keep focused in class. Personally I think this is a useless class, it feels like review of stats 2023. But if you need a GPA boost, this is it.
The lectures are painfully boring, but there is nothing essentially difficult about the class itself. You have 4 group papers so if your group members are sub-par then your grade will unfortunately suffer. By no means is he unintelligent, the material and his presentation are just unbearable. An A is not difficult if you put moderate effort in.
for online course would only answer questions with page number from the text. You really on learn by reading the entire text book because there is zero feedback other than quiz grades
Such a great teacher!! The class is large so he just reads powerpoints, but he is always very approachable and helpful. He responds super fast to any questions on webcourses and if you study or go to the review sessions you can definitely get an A! And he makes funny little jokes in class and laughs to himself about them, which is hilarious.
Awesome teacher! Very straightforward, work at your own pace. Always answers questions quickly and in ways that actually help! No exams or projects! If you are worried about statistics in psychology, take Dr. Chin! He's the best!!
Online. Dr. Chin is extremely helpful! Responds promptly to all emails & takes student's input into consideration and makes changes. Very patient with all our questions. Has 2 group projects (Sniffy) & 5 quizzes You MUST study to do good but you can get an A. Has some extra credit. Provides review questions and helpful modules. Would take him again
I took him online for Stats and loved it. The material of the class is not that tough if you do your work and he drops two test grades (or lets you use your average for the final). There is also a whole chapter at the end as EC. He's very fair and answers students' questions almost instantaneously. Totally recommend. Book definitely needed.
Very intelligent man, knows what he is talking about and extremely helpful . HILARIOUS only if you know what he is talking about.
Be careful with this class. Dr. Chin is really nice but the Research Methods grade is over half based on group papers, which is always a gamble. I got stuck with a bad group, but everyone gets the same grade for the paper. I'm sure if you have a good group this class is fine. I never got the books and did fine. Consider taking the online class.
Class could be interesting with a different teacher. Gives study guides with about 100 questions but only 30 questions on the test. Ask for 10 essay questions on exam about the articles he assigns but doesn't tell you which articles and there is about 5 articles and 5 videos per section. So tests are hard to study for. Nice guy but pretty boring.
Thought this class would be awesome, but it is literally only about shelters and animal consumption. Also pretty boring lectures, and frequently goes off on boring tangents. Also takes forever to grade things. Gives two large projects and will be easy only if you have a good group.
Dr. Chin is a sweet guy and a very helpful person. However his teaching style is difficult to follow. It is obvious that he understands the material but the way it's portrayed is confusing especially if the information is new. He is on point with everything else such as responding to emails and such. He would be a better teacher for grad students.
Dr. Chin is an ok professor. Personally, I dislike the way he teaches Research Methods. His lectures are pretty boring as he spends a painfully long time going over the notes. The lab for his class is pretty long and you have 4 group papers to write (personally I don't like writing papers with other people) its a necessary class. It's not that bad.
PSYCH STUDENTS BE WARNED impossible class, do NOT take. Online with a different professor would be 1000x better. incredibly boring. SO HARD.
Seems like a nice guy and he is definitely passionate, but he is just so bad at translating the material in an organized manner that the average Joe can understand and he rants on about nothing a lot, so its easy to doze off. Lotsa big group work in lab. Attendance mandatory. Those that aren't good at statistics? This class will be tough for you.
Chin is a great teacher, and knows what he is doing, but the quizzes are not like this class. For sure read the book to study. The other tough thing is there is only four quizzes and an optional final to determine your grade.
He's a good professor, but make sure you read the textbook. The tests are pretty difficult as well.
His psychology class is very interesting. He may over-elaborate sometimes, but he does show some pretty interesting videos in class that are related to the topic. good teacher
His test are almost impossible so make sure you read, read, read. Definitely knows his stuff, but what he talks about in class is hardly what he puts on the tests.
This class wasn't that bad. However, Dr. Chin definitely makes you work for your grade. If you're willing to study then you'll be fine. Lectures were boring because he reiterates things a thousand times, but there are some things he mentions in class you need to know for the quizzes. Overall, I liked Dr. Chin and would take another class of his.
His tests were the hardest I've ever had. There are 4 "quizzes" of 52 questions. If you do not have the book YOU WILL NOT PASS. His lectures are okay but they're not enough. If you can read the 100 page chapters and memorize it then you will do fine. If you cannot, do not take him.
He often slips really funny jokes right in the middle of his lecture. However, he does sometimes drag on a specific topic for awhile. I also enjoyed the fact that he includes amusing videos in his lecture. Make sure to show up for the lecture, since he does include in-class topics in the tests..
Dr. Chin and his TA were really amazing at communicating clearly what was expected of us. Yes, you need the book, and YES you need the Sniffy software. Also there are two big group projects, so you'd better hope your group does their work on time. The nice thing is that they grade everyone in the group separately based on feedback from the members.
This class and teacher and for people who like to attend classes but do not like reading textbooks. tests are hard but not too bad if you study. must attend class!
The class appears really interesting at the beginning of the class, but as it progresses it becomes less interesting. Exams are unreasonable. 4 huge topics, up to 60 "articles" that are tested. He picks 12 essay questions from articles & 30 MC. Provides no study guide or help. Over-explains everything and takes 40 minutes to explain 1 simple topic.
Professor Chin isn't that bad if you talk to him but his grading scale is killer. To get an A you need 900 points. Lab doesn't count for much just the group papers. The TA's aren't the best and WebCourses for the grade is not correct. Two textbooks are required, you MUST read them. Quizzes every few weeks with random info from lab, text, and class
Not what I expected the class to be. Lots of articles to read and podcasts to listen to. Textbook isn't assigned but I wish there would have been one for studying purposes. Reading through all the assigned articles was tedious. He was helpful if you asked for help. 2 group papers. Would have preferred to write it individually.
Had to drop this class. Would not suggest this professor, he is completely unhelpful and does not reply to emails. His grading scale is weird and he doesn't let you see your grade in the course throughout the semester. Tests are pretty hard and tedious.
Honestly, if you read the textbook & read the material under the MODULE you should be fine This was the problem when I took the first 2 tests bc I did not know there was reading under the module (it being my first online class) as test questions will mostly be based on the material he gives under the module but you should still read the textbook.
Too much to type. Terrible professor who reads off the powerpoints. Powerpoints are online, BUT they are missing 70% of the information. Lab is full of group projects with terrible group members. The quizes he gives are absolutely horrible no matter how much you study. I would say do not take him, but he is the only professor that offers it at UCF.
For the record I am terrible at math and I managed to get a B in this class, would've gotten an A if my group would've done better on our first paper. If you go to lecture every day, then you will pass all of his quizzes. The only thing that sucks are lazy group members you may be forced to work with.
Decent teacher, you MUST READ the textbook if you want to pass the tests which were pretty difficult. Sometimes the tests would have questions relating to the lectures. Explained things in an understandable way. You do also have to do surveys for a grade. Some were online and some were on campus.
Lecture notes consist of a lot of information. Two projects that are pretty straight forward. 3 tests that consist of lecture and A LOT of online readings/videos. Test questions are absurdly detailed so NEED to read/study. Grading is even worse! Pretty upset with the class overall.
The class isn't hard if you put the work into it! He gives a lot of quizzes but they're not worth many points compared to the huge group papers that are assigned. Class can be easy if you have a good group, but majority of your grade is group papers and projects from the lab!
Very nice man, fair grader. 2 group papers, participation matters. 4 exams, including the final (non-cumulative). Read ALL of the articles, he will have short response questions on his exams based on them. Overall, interesting class. Beware: He is very bias in the animal consumption & hunting chapters. Good filler course for Pre-Vet students.
Absolutely ridiculous tests. I'm currently taking this on line/summer class and each test consists of 4 chapters from the text and a min. of 4 journal articles. He gives you no idea as to what you will be tested on, in ALL of that information, and he doesn't test on the actual concepts but rather on specific details of experiments mentioned. DUMB!
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!! Tests are irrelevant to actually learning the material. The questions deal more with specifics from experiments rather than what is learned from the experiments. The choices he often gives for the answers don't even make sense and are not in the reading material. Can't see incorrect Q's b/c they're blocked. Stupid!!
I regret choosing this course for you have this boring, unhelpful, unforgiving, and hard instructor. Tests consist more on the assigned article readings than his lectures, doesn't help you understand the material whatsoever, goes off talking about unrelated topics during lectures, has an attitude when you need assistance, and is a chore to take.
Hardest online class I've ever taken. So many journal articles for biweekly quizzes. You need book. The subject itself was so interesting being Psych of Diversity but this professor made this online class harder than it had to be. I would take it with another professor. He also canceled his office hours a lot so it was hard to go speak with him.
4 mandatory exams, the 5th (final exam) is optional in order to drop lowest test score, or improve grade. Two group projects. Those are the only things in the grade book. Study supplemental readings, studies, lectures, and book. You could study for hours regularly,) only to get a C; questions are extremely obscure and irrelevant. Save your GPA!!
The lectures are honestly very pointless and boring at times. he is a nice guy but this class was kind of dry which made it hard to retain the information. the lab and group work are a pain but are the majority of your grade, so if you dont have a good group or lab TA you're screwed. definitely ways to improve here
I took Social Psych not really expecting to love it, but Dr. Chin makes the subject really enjoyable to hear about and he's incredibly knowledgeable. Definitely show up to class because there are a lot of lecture questions on the tests & READ THE ASSIGNED MATERIAL (that's most of the tests). Only bad part is the group project honestly.
Dr. Chin is an interesting professor, but this elective requires a lot of work. There are two group papers. There is no textbook, but instead he assigns articles for you as required reading for a test. Generally, there are 50 articles to read and memorize for each test - it was a lot. The tests are multiple choice & written answer.
You get points off for every minute you are late/leave early. Instructed by GA's and grading is unclear. Lab is almost 3 hours long and mandatory every week. Few excuses are accepted. I had to give a presentation w/ the stomach flu and was docked for leaving during the hurricane to evacuate.
Where do I begin. Professor Chin does not grade fairly. Even when I read every single word, I still had difficulty on the tests. Test questions are hard, and quite ridiculous. You will watch many videos in the modules from Youtube. Test questions will go as far to ask the color of the man's shirt in video 4. This class was harder than necessary.
This class is harder than it needs to be. Professor Chin gives you about 3 RIDICULOUSLY LONG articles to read and 3 videos on top of the assigned chapter to read for quizzes! There are 4 exams with an optional final, (5 total) and group projects. Definitely not an easy A course as it can be with someone else.
Dr. Chin is an amazing professor who is very passionate. The people who don't do well in his class are the same people who are lazy. IT IS A 5 CREDIT COURSE SOOO... He has 9 quizzes instead of tests, and you have the OPTION to take the final (which drops your lowest quiz grade). group work in lab is mandatory with 3 papers, not bad at all.
This professor is one of the worst I have had so far at UCF, all he does is read from the powerpoints, he doesnt even attempt to make it interesting in any way at all. The quizzes have review sessions but none of the material they cover are on the quizzes! Labs are annoying, tons of group papers which sucks.
Lecture is tedious and often boring. He's helpful but otherwise teaches concepts in a more difficult manner than necessary. Having only 9 quizzes and one optional final makes it easy to screw up. Lab can be great if you have a good GTA. Lecture isn't mandatory but lab is.
Lecture attendance is completely unnecessary if you read the chapters in the book and the additional material that is provided. Dr. Chin said the lectures would be conversation style but there is zero student engagement. This class is an easy A if you do the reading and attend the test review sessions.
I feel like this professor seems to forget that his class is not the only class being taken by students. His tests are unnecessarily long and difficult and much too wordy. All of his requirements for projects/papers are specific which is helpful but I feel that he runs this class like a graduate class instead of undergraduate. It's too much IMO.
Professor Chin is awesome! He knows the material and does a good job explaining it. You definitely have to study for tests like you would for any other college class, but nothing crazy. If you go to the lectures and just review notes and read the assigned stuff you'll be good. His tests are not hard. Final is optional! Would definitely take again.
So attendance in his lab is mandatory, yet in lecture its not. Pretty much if you pay attention and follow both lab and lecture, you should be fine. If you talk to him and let him get to know you, he's a reasonable person. 9 quizzes and you can either drop 2, and take the final or just keep them, and the papers from lab also add to the final grade.
Dr. Chin is a great professor. He is very clear with his expectations and thorough with his lectures. He also never makes you feel stupid if you need something clarified. Lab attendance is mandatory, lecture is not but going to lecture only helps you to pass. Its a 5 credit course so be ready for that time commitment.
Chin loves to talk. There's not a whole lot in research methods that wasn't already covered in stats methods, so the lectures are definitely optional because he rambles and the notes are posted online. The lab portion is useful, just be ready to write group research papers but honestly they really help to get the proposal format down.
Awesome professor! He is really nice but the quizzes are very confusing and word lengthy. Definitely I think people should take this online. He treats this as a Grad class not like an undergrad class. Theres lots of articles to read which takes so much time to do. He doesn't curve quizes, if the average for the class is a 60 it will stay a 60.
Dr. Chin is a very caring professor, his class wasn't hard but your grades are based off of 9 (hard) quizzes, 4 group papers, and a group presentation. Take this class when you're ready to give it your all. Definitely get the book and STUDY! Btw- some of the quiz questions are from things that he talks about in lecture so make sure you go!
The professor is great at responding to student questions (online or in person). Quizzes are not that bad, READ CAREFULLY they're not long questions, just sometimes specific. Final is optional, and material is slightly interesting, but it can get boring during lectures. He's a solid professor, and you will work in groups for projects.
Definitely a good professor. He knows what he's talking about but it's a lot to take in and understand, the exams were rough and it was too much info for a summer class. Took it in summer B and really regretted it but in a fall or spring term it shouldn't be overwhelming. Take notes and study and you should do fine
Take this course with another professor, their are two group projects that make up 20 percent of your grade while the five quizzes make 60, and final make 20. His exams are ridiculously hard and their are a lot of readings that come from the book as well as web articles. Their isnt a lot you can do to get your grade up, so study study studyyyyyy!!
His lectures are interesting in a way; however, very heavy lectures. You must read the articles and book because some of his questions are on the quizzes. There are only two group projects, super easy. Study at least a week or two before the test. . Remember every little detail about the case studies and he will give examples. Overall, average.
He is kind of a boring lecturer but you have to go to class to understand, he has slides but goes into more detail in person. Read the textbook modules and ALL the assigned articles and do the study guides for all the quizzes because it helps so much and will be much easier to study for the final exam (if you choose to take it).
Wasnt sure howd I end in this class. Definitely not a bad professor but this class was a bit overwhelming for me. There were a lot of lectures, a ton of reading and timed quizzes.
Professor Chin is a really nice teacher. If you are disciplined, you will do great in this course -if you like to "finesse" courses, this isn't the class for you. He's very understanding, so if you have any problems within your group he will make sure you get your work's worth. Exams are a breeze if you do the required readings and attend lecture!!
Professor Chin is nice, but its the teaching style. Most of it is just a lot of reading from the text books and articles, but I shouldn't have to read so much to "learn". The professor should change the way he lectures and not rely so much on articles and textbooks. Teachers should teach. The only good thing is that there is extra credit.
He is a very nice guy but I hated this class. The class I was the most excited for turned out to stress me out the most. 5 quizzes are 60% of your grade and they are HARD. Not only do you have to study the lecture material but there is also articles, podcasts, the textbook, and studies. 2 group projects, 5 quizzes, and the final (ec is offered).
Read the reviews and decided I could do the class. Let me tell you, that was my 1st mistake. The quizzes are worth so many points and they focus on the tiny, irrelevant details that nobody would remember. He never answers emails, the lecture content is vague, and the group projects are graded so harshly. Take this class online or with someone else
Dr. Chin isnt the best at explaining things in my opinion and he talks kind of fast so I end up zoning out and going home to teach myself the material. We took 9 quizzes and theres a final but its optional unless you missed a quiz. I wouldnt recommend him for research methods maybe another class wouldnt be as bad.
I literally made an account so I could write this. His class absolutely sucked. He talks in circles so everything's pretty unclear. All he does is read off powerpoints and rambles. Other than tests (5-6), there are group papers. Yes. Group. Papers. Four people to write a page and a half with no rubric so you don't know what he's actually grading.
I loved Dr. Chin! The class material was not too difficult if you did your part and kept up with reading the textbook and articles. Those who are giving horrible feedback are probably the same people who hardly picked up the book or went to reviews. If you're a psych major, this is a normal class. If not, I can see where it may be more difficult.
Professor Chin offers extra credit assignments that do help, but his exams are ridiculous. Get ready to read in-depth academic journals and articles and to be tested on those heavily. Lecture is okay, it's just that the exams are just so hard. I'm typically an A/B student, but this professor was so hard that I got a C. Would not recommend.
Everyone says his exams are so hard, but then you already know you need to be prepared. They are not that hard if you just make sure to pay attention to the details of the experiments. You don't even have to take the final exam if you took all 5 quizzes which is so helpful. Group papers are easy.
Dr. Chin is a man you can definitely work with, however, as an A/B student I'm disappointed to confess I got a hard-earned C. One's grade is based off a few, yet difficult material - lengthy scholarly articles, lengthy reviews, unclear written 50 question tests (50 min.), group project essays (4 random individuals, 1 paper). I wouldn't recommend.
This prof seems like a genuinely nice guy, but wow are his tests specific. There is so much memorization of scholarly articles on top of the lecture material from the powerpoints required, just to be tested on extremely specific and unclearly worded questions. You really need to read everything for this class - it's not impossible but not nec. easy
Lectures are entertaining, the labs depend on which TA you get, but overall good experience
Yes, the multiple lengthy journal articles will make you want to scream, but my biggest gripe are the 2 group papers. 3-4 people to write 900 words w/ NO rubric to follow. We followed the directions initially given, made corrections based on GTA feedback & still couldn't get an A. I WAS excited about this class & now I'm so glad it's over!
He is ok. His lectures are interesting but he'll give you a 30 page article just to ask you one test question on it. Lots of reading and material for the the tests to the point where its impossible to study all of it. Group projects are never fun but at least they were graded very easy. However, the tests are worth far too much.
The exams that he calls "quizzes" are insane. There is too much information for every quiz that it is honestly impossible to remember everything. You will need to not only study lecture slides but also watch videos, read articles, and read the textbook. You'll read 50 page article and the quiz will ask 1 irrelevant question on it. Do not take him.
He didn't do the typical 3-4 tests, instead it's 5-ish quizzes. The work load should contain: 5-6 Articles 12-26 Pages in length containing 1-3 studies, 30-40 textbook pages, lecture notes, 1 video and 1 podcast for each Quiz. They're long with incredibly specific questions. It's very difficult. Group Projects graded by his TA. Ours graded HARD
This is definitely a class that you want to take online. I took it in the summer and I got an A only because the exams were online. His lectures were great and I got lucky by having a nice group for the social experiment projects. The tests are really detailed and it helps having experience from other classes before taking this one...
Chin is great at lectures, but his quizzes aka exams can really impact your grade. How to get an A: Do all your reading (seriously, every page) and take notes. Make a study guide from those notes, and from lecture notes. This course is VERY dependent on understanding the material. Group papers are easy if you have any will to do them. Do your part!
Chin is only in charge of the lectures in the course (the bulk of the work will be the group papers done in your lab; pray you get a lenient GTA). He does basic PowerPoint lectures and you will end up having to teach yourself. He rambles a lot and it gets very boring. You will probably skip class. HOWEVER, study HARD for the very specific quizzes.
Prof. Chin isnt the worst but he isnt the best. The quizzes are the hardest part, LOTS of reading lengthy articles, sometimes 15-20 pages long & will only have 1-2 questions about it on the quiz. Filling out the study guide definitely helps. Two group papers that are easy, has extra credit options (its worth doing)
Dr. Chin is a nice professor. Your grade in the class will consist only of exams and 2 group projects that are very short and simple essays. I would recommend submitting a rough draft of the essays to get the best grade. The tests aren't difficult but are very specific and will easily drop down your grade, so take the readings seriously.
Long lectures & boring tone. Class consists of 2 group papers, 5 tests each 50 extremely specific and ridiculously long questions. This class I had difficulty passing. He gives the group papers in order bring up bad grades on the tests. This teacher i dreaded going to class. The only good thing is that he would often let class out 10 minutes early.
Dr. Chin cares a lot, takes the time to answer emails and reaches out to students every so often to make sure no one is lost. The class is extremely straightforward, we do the same every week, read and take open note 100 mins quizzes at the end of the week. There are 2 papers. It's an easy and interesting class, just gotta do what's asked of you.
This class was challenging but I found that the Professor was very helpful throughout the course. The labs were fairly easy if you follow directions.
He's honestly not bad. I had a really good group so the group projects were not bad either. The quizzes are based of on the modules that he puts up. Gives extra credit opportunities so that also can boost up your grade.
One of the best classes I have ever taken!! Super easy and the lectures are interesting. Along with each module is a summary of the textbook pages that help a lot for quizzes. There is no homework and tests/quizzes are very easy. Two papers are assigned in groups and aren't graded harshly. Definitely recommend taking!!
I took professor chin for statistical methods in psychology online. He outlined the class great ( each assignment was due the same day each week). He provides video of how to do that labs each week and gives multiple attempts on homework and quizzes. I was worried about stats but he really is a great professor who wants to see you do well.
Very at ease and helpful. Provides modules along with the textbook suffice for learning. He breaks down the overall grade based on percentages which helped me, as I was good at Labs 30% and HW 10%, but struggled with Quizzes 30%. Incidentally, you are allowed to opt out of the final exam and counts 30% of quiz grade toward Final exam.
The weekly were open book, and it helps to take detailed notes so you don't have to speed read. The final exam is more theory-based, rather than applying the formulas. There were about 6 out of 100 questions that were based on simple calculations, everything else was the theory. The only reason I got a C was that I forgot to submit assignments.
Dr. Chin is great at teaching, is very passionate, and I legitimately enjoy his lectures. I appreciate his focus on past research in social psych. Tests are fair and cover lectures and the side materials he provides. You don't need to buy the textbook unless you have $ to burn. Downside, there are group projects and the TA is a tough grader.
He records his lectures and links the recording in announcements, which is why Im giving him a 5. He also knows what hes talking about when he teaches and is good at answering questions. Theres 5 quizzes, 2 papers, and the final, thats it. Offers extra credit which is easy to do. Class is really easy if you pay attention and write notes. :)
Dr. Chin was a great professor, his lectures were very straightforward, and he used lots of stories and examples in class to help understand the material. There were 5 "Quizzes" which are actually just like unit tests. No homework. 2 group papers. No homework other than reading the extra material but it isn't really necessary. Loved this class.
AMAZING professor. As someone who is neurodivergent and has always struggled with math.. trust me take this professor. There is a quiz, homework, and lab every week. Which gives you ample opportunity to make up points. If you take all the quizzes you can opt out of the final exam. Extra credit opportunity. Prof is reachable outside of office hours.
Dr. Chin was a very caring and funny teacher. He'll help you with anything you need. However, if you're not into math, this class might be hard. I struggled with the course itself, but not because of Dr. Chin. Definitely do all the extra credit he offers. The labs were easy to follow and the final was optional if you completed all the quizzes.
Dr. Chin led a great class offering extra credit from the beginning and making the course 5 quizzes. there are journal articles you have to read that are on the test. he records the lectures and offered the quizzes online where you could use your notes. he is very knowledgeable making the lectures entertaining.
The format for this class was great! For this MWF class lectures were given on Monday and Wednesday, homework was due Wednesday, a quiz was given during class time on Friday, and labs were due Friday. The lectures are not mandatory and you can watch them later as he posts them in announcements. The professor is very caring and understanding.
Dr. Chin made this class super interesting. Lectures can be watched later and are very easy to follow. There is no textbook, but you must read assigned articles and watch videos for each unit. The few exams take info from lectures and the readings/videos. The two group projects are also very doable. I've taken several courses with this professor
Dr. Chin was great and provided interesting material to learn from it was just a lot. Each module consisted of 2 textbook chapters, about 10 articles, and 5-7 videos which there would then be a 50 question quiz on every week. However the quizzes were completely open book which made them easy, just time consuming. taking him again for social psych!
Professor Chin is amazing. You can really tell he knows the material and is able to explain it in a way that anyone can understand. There's two group projects and a few tests. Overall easy class.
Honestly, a great professor to have, his lectures are pretty engaging and the topics are interesting to learn about! There are 5 quizzes and two paper group projects which are graded by TAs that give great feedback. Review sessions are also held for every single quiz along with review sheets.
Professor Chin has interesting lectures, that helps you encode the material. He provides many real-world examples and jokes during lectures. While his humor is a bit dry, he does his best to make his lectures interesting. He also gives honest and good responses in class to questions.
Dr. Chin is one of the fastest responders I have ever had as a professor. He is very easy going and everything is clear and concise. Read his module every week and the chapter he assigns and you will get an A. The labs are time consuming but pretty straightforward.
Dr. Chin seems very on top of everything and he is someone I could rely on as a student majoring in psychology. He is very efficient in his lectures and explains everything very clearly so that we can easily understand all the material. He is honestly an amazing professor to have.
Dr. Chin is a great and caring person, but I was frustrated with him as a professor. Everything is graded by the TAs which is fine, but when reaching out for help I got nothing. His lab instructions were always incredibly vague making them hard to do. Quizzes you get more two chances and homework you get unlimited chances - that was the one upside.
Good professor everything is accessible online and every in-person session is available live via zoom. He posts all the recordings and the TBA offers study sessions for each exam. Every exam is online (at home) and they're not cumulative. He also drops the lowest exam.
Feels like I'm doing the same material I did in the prereq for this class (stats methods). The lectures are long-winded. Some assignments (group project stuff) aren't very clearly communicated since it is done via canvas inbox instead of a regular assignment. That being said, the simplicity of the weekly assignments in this class are great.
Dr. Chin gives so MANY assignments/quizzes, only opens them 2 days before the due date. He seems to forget that people work full time jobs and have many other classes. Do not take this teacher unless you do not work or have 3+ other classes. Only upside is quizzes have 2 attempts but nobody has enough time to complete ALL work in 48 hours.
As a disabled student who has A LOT of accommodations, he is one of the most accommodating professors I have ever had. Yes all the work is on your own, but if you contact him he goes above and beyond to help. His chapter outlines help tremendously but you still NEED to the book. He also gives 2 points of extra credit, SONA credits!
Records the lectures for Zoom, but you HAVE TO watch/attend class to pass the quizzes (they're open note tho!). I stopped reading the textbook, it's unnecessary. There are a couple of group projects, but they're very manageable and not bad at all. You are able to submit a rough draft before papers are submitted, which helps a ton. Would def rec.
I Dreaded taking stats and even dropped two stats classes before taking Professor's chin. It's a lot of weekly work and the labs are a pain but it is part of this course that we just can't escape. weekly quizzes 15Qs, HW can be taken as many times as needed but the best part is that tests are NOT proctored!! Lectures are extremely helpful.
He gives study guides but you're graded on 5 exams and 2 papers. Papers you doing a social experiment, exams are open-note open-book but it's ONE MINUTE PER QUESTION only during class time. He records and posts his lectures and you can go in person or on Zoom. Lots of research papers to read and tests focus on research papers and research studies
Professor Chin was amazing! He was as helpful as can be with the labs required in the class and gave step-by-step instructions. The class can be tough because I'm not much great at math but I was easier than a regular statistics class.
Professor Chin was the best! He kept lectures very interesting and funny and attendance wasn't mandatory. He also records lectures. Definitely study well for the tests but they aren't extremely hard.
I have taken (as of now) 3 of Dr. Chin's classes. His classes aren't exactly easy but they aren't ridiculously difficult. You could get an A in any of his classes if you are willing to study for an hour or two before his tests. He is also pretty lenient when grading papers. He's probably my favorite UCF professor.
Chill course, loved the TA I was assigned, I havent interacted with the professor much because it's an online course but it is not a difficult course I can promise. If you don't work well in groups, procrastinate on assignments, and don't commit to studying the material it may be tricky, but if you do the work you can definitely get an A.
Huge group projects and huge tests only. No assignments and heavy amounts of studying and reading articles with little to no teaching.
The class consisted of 5 quizzes, 2 group papers, and an optional final. He told us the textbook was required, but only one quiz had questions from the textbook. The Group projects have randomly assigned group members and very unclear instructions, but the TA graded them fairly. Overall, if you put in the effort, you should get a good grade.
Textbook wasn't needed. There are 2 group papers/projects that can be stressful if you don't communicate or plan ahead. The 5 quizzes and 1 final exam are not proctored, but they are all timed at 1 min per question. The final is optional if you do well on quizzes. There are no video lectures, so lots of reading and teaching yourself.
His teaching method is OK. There are very few assignments so a low note on one = whole grade down. There are 5 50-question quizzes (1min per question) based on the readings. The final is optional if you take all quizzes. There are 2 group projects that I hated bc no one else worked. I have a 4.0 GPA and almost lost it with this class. TA was nice.
10/10 recomend. Very reasonable profesor, lets you take exams twice. Reviews information very accurate to test. TAKE HIM!!!! Hes fabulous
I was going to take Statistical Methods in Psychology with another professor but was ecstatic when Dr. Chin's class opened up. He was as helpful as can be with the labs required in the class and gave step-by-step instructions. He also offers 2 points of extra credit, SONA credits!
I am not a math-oriented person, so going into this course I was anxious. When I tell you that Dr. Chin made this easiest course ever, I'm not kidding!!! He posts a YouTube video every week that shows you step-by-step how to do each assignment, and he responds to emails so quick. I definitely recommend Dr. Chin if this class is a grad requirement!
Professor Chin's class is manageable if you stay on top of the work. The quizzes and exams can be challenging, but using resources like unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook can really help. Overall, a solid course if you're willing to put in the effort.
Mid at best
Professor Chin is so sweet just by looking at his syllabus you can tell. 5 quizzes and 2 projects. You work as a group for the 2 project papers. Easy paper to do if your group is good. There is a final but you can skip it if you take all 5 quizzes and drop your lowest quiz grade if you choose to do that. You can take the final if you want.
Not so bad. Was probably my least favorite class I took that semester, but I'd take him again. Professor Chin is a nice guy, but his tests are a little asinine. Projects are a breeze, but man those nights studying from lecture PowerPoints were a drag. Tough class from my perspective but I wouldn't let that dissuade you.
I had Dr Chin for Stats for Psychology and Research Methods, and I thought he was an amazing professor. He explains the material so that it is easy to comprehend and is always willing to answer questions/help out either in class or during his office hours. All of his quizzes/exams are online and not proctored. If you study, you'll get a good grade
Dr. Chin's class was pretty easy. There are 5 quizzes total, two projects, and a final exam that you are able to skip if you get a certain average on the quizzes. There is a textbook but I did not get it or use it.
I HATE math, but I got an A. I wouldn't say this class is "easy" or "fun", but it IS straightforward. About three assignments a week, definitely takes some time. If you can follow instructions and have some time to actually pay attention, it's not a bad class. Professor Chin is great, I'm just not a math person.
Prof Chin knows how to organize and conduct a fully online course and it shows. He structured homework, labs, and quizzes like clockwork and gave video presentations (posted Monday morning, like clockwork) on how to do the lab for the current week. A tough grader, but would definitely take him again if I had to stats again.
I took this class in the spring; it is a lot of reading, but he gave us around 2.5 weeks to get it done before each exam. drops the lowest exam, and the final is optional. I would take him for every class if I could. Very sweet in person and willing to answer any questions you have. Clear grading criteria for two 900-word papers.
Super clear grading criteria. Like, I've never met a professor that had the answer to every question possible written in his syllabus. I knew what to expect and exactly what to do at any given time.
Adv Research Methods (Spr 2024) has been my hardest psych class. I didn't finish 2 of the 3 regular exams; they were extremely long/tough (even with open notes). Also a big research paper and presentation. Final was optional. Despite the difficulty, I learned a lot about methodology/stats/analysis. I still recommend him; just be prepared to work.
