Literally the best teacher I have ever had. I am completely not interested in this subject which made it difficult to me at first but he reached out to me in a class over 100 people in an attempt to help me get the best grade possible.
Super cool dude, definitely plan on taking him again. Textbook isn't really necessary, except for a few reading quizzes but he practically tells you what's on them before the class. Go to class! If attendance is low one day he'll give you extra credit and if he sees consistent attendance he'll bump you up if you are at a borderline grade
He is a great teacher and the class is super easy. The textbook is really unnecessary; I got the textbook and read it for the first two quizzes, and my grade did not change when I stopped reading the textbook before subsequent quizzes. Basically if you show up, participate in class or online, and read your notes over before the quiz, you're solid.
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. The entire class is 7 quizzes (he gives you the dates at the beginning of semester & tells you whats on them, always extra credit question), 1 paper & 1 simulation. Super nice and willing to help you, makes it as interesting as possible. Need to go to class bc he takes attendance. Def .taking again
I loved Professor Clary's class! I am a poli sci major, but my friends in the class who weren't enjoyed it too! It is really eye-opening and he is very knowledgable about the topic. There are 8 quizzes and then a final. You also will have a short research paper (3-5 pages) and a model UN assignment! Would definitely recommend taking his class!
Dr. Clary is awesome. I'm a science major, took this as an elective, and loved it. The UN simulation was interesting and engaging. The quizzes are easy if you go to class and remotely pay attention. The research paper is only 3-5 pages and you get to pick the topic. I definitely recommend this class.
DrClary is passionate about his field and it shows in the course. Makes complex subjects easy to understands and how it affects us. Come to class, pay attention, take notes you will be fine. Weekly quizzes in lieu of midterm, which I loved. Textbook assigned, but we never used it. Participate in class to make a good impression.
Best teacher I ever had at Auburn!!! So nice and really cares about his students! Do need to go to class because after 4 missed days he deducts points! other than that great!
Clary is an awesome professor, very young, very understanding that most people are required to take his class for their major. He's a fair grader, but tends to give you a little more than you deserve. I never opened the textbook but wouldn't recommend that because I'm a political science nerd. He's pretty funny if you like dry humor. 10/10.
Dr. Clary is a phenomenal instructor who challenges mundane teaching practices and keeps the class engaging. As with all college classes GO TO CLASS; after four absences he will deduct points. In his National Security Policy class there will be one simulation, two 4-6 page papers, and six quizzes which he gives you a PPT on what will be covered.
Extremely knowledgeable on the topic he's teaching. Go ahead and buy the book, but don't expect to be reading from it much. Very detailed lectures. Tests are somewhat difficult, depends in the notes you take in class. Overall, I'd definitely take him again
Dr. Clary is my best teacher at Auburn yet. He teaches this class by providing real life examples and events so it makes it very interesting. He gives easy points for just coming to class. His tests are not difficult if you listen in class and just go over your lecture notes.
He clearly knew what he was talking about, but he would go off on tangents all the time and was so slow to talk through the notes. He made us by this online portal to take attendance and such that was so expensive and unnecessary. It was just so extra.
Great professor. i've taken two of his classes and made a high A in both of them. He's very cut and dry with what he expects from you making it easy to get an A if you do the work and come to class. Super nice and approachable and willing to help you succeed. Definitely recommend taking him and would do it again!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. He's just super super nice, always reachable, easy grader. Definitely take him! Go to his office hour and he's more than happy to help and will give you as many extra helps as you need. You'll feel very interested if you're poli sic major, he really knows what he's talking about. Wouldn't be disappointed if you take his class.
Great teacher. He truly cares about the students.
I LOVED Clary. I generally like international politics but I love it more after his class. He is clear and concise with what he expects and its not a ton. we did a model UN and it was really fun and with some effort an A is very attainable. tests aren't bad, and going to class and answering online questions help your grade a ton.
I'm not sure what class the last person sat through. Dr. Clary was extremely helpful when I went to office hours for help and he really does seem to care about helping us succeed. I also enjoyed his lectures and the material from the course since this isn't what I usually study. The text wasn't central to the class, but some good info there
If you take notes during the lectures, the test questions come directly from the notes. Everything is pretty straightforward, and if you do what you're supposed to, it's an easy A. He does take attendance, so you can only miss 4 times. I never used the textbook. He's a good professor and does what he can to help his students succeed,
Great professor, even better person. you can miss 4 classes before he takes off for attendance. learned a lot of practical and interesting stuff. he posts his lectures online and his tests are easy if you know the slides. i didnt study a ton, maybe about an hour and a half the night before and went to class and made 95+ on all the tests.
Professor Clarys Model U.N. course was hands down the best course Ive taken at Auburn. The simulations, games, and activities were so much fun and taught me a lot about international relations. The class was definitely demanding in terms of time outside of class, but worth it.
this is my second class with clary and it was one of my favorites here at auburn. even though we had to do a lot of outside work, the class overall was a lot of fun!
Professor Clary is great. Attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, but if you miss more than 4 classes you can expect your grade to drop. Don't buy the textbook, friends. 3 tests including the final. There's a model UN project which is easy, but don't put it off. Overall, Clary tells you EXACTLY what to expect from his class so go and pay attention
He is a super caring person. I have never been a politics person (Im a nursing major), but he made the class enjoyable. He wants what is best for his students. You do need to go to class though, as he takes attendance each day. I learned a lot I never imagined I would.
Dr. Clary is awesome! You mainly use TopHat which is an app you use to answer questions during lecture, study powerpoints, and attendance everyday. Its super helpful. Go to class and study a little bit before each test and you'll be fine.
I absolutely LOVED!! He was one of my best professors and I am very satisfied with this course. He presents the information that we need to know and applies it to real life in lectures (this helped me learn). He is also VERY FAIR, meaning that if you study a lot you can for sure make a high grade. He is also straightforward with what we need 2 know
He's a great professor. Even though I didn't know much about politics, he made the class interesting. His tests can be a little tricky at times, but he's pretty straightforward with what is expected. He wants his classes to do well, and as long as you study the notes and questions asked during class, you should make an A.
Hands down the easiest class Ive ever taken at Auburn! Clary is very straightforward about what he expects and makes the class relevant to everyday life, which made me actually look forward to going to class.
Great class! Learned a lot!
He's one of my favorite professors I've had! He was very straight forward with what's expected and his tests were very clear. He gives bonus on the tests and usually drops one of the multiple choice questions. The UN simulation we did was super easy for a group project too. Easy A.
Best professor I have ever had at Auburn!! Super funny and gives clear, easy to follow lectures! Attendance is not mandatory, however I went to class everyday because he explains the notes really well! Tests are super easy if you study!! ! You have a model UN group project, which was fun and easy! HE IS AWESOME!!
Dr. Clary is awesome! He explains things super clearly, makes what would otherwise be an awful class interesting, and is a super fair grader. I really liked the Packback program we used in class to discuss current events and I loved the Model UN simulation. Highly Recommend POLI 1050 but also Dr. Clary in general!
Professor Clary is wonderful! He genuinely cares about his students and wants us to succeed. He provides really interesting lectures, discussion questions, and his simulations are awesome! The one for the Asian Politics course was super exciting and a lot of fun. I've taken 3 courses with Dr. Clary and will take more--can't recommend more!
Loved Dr. Clary's class this semester! The lectures are more like conversations and stories and he tries to make things relevant to non-majors. Would definitely recommend!
His lectures are boring sometimes but if pay attention then getting an A won't be hard. He does assign books but I didn't read them and got B. My advice would be to do packback, the quizzes and whatever small essays he assigns. (They are grade boosters) Missing class doesn't hurt unless you do it a lot. He also offers extra credit on tests.
I took this class because I thought it'd be an easy core credit class, but it has been a pain. You don't have to go to class because his powerpoint are online, but if you're not familiar with global politics it will be extremely hard. There is so much work outside of class and at least 5 different papers throughout. He's a nice guy though.
I haven't thought this much about global politics pretty much ever, but Dr. Clary helps to make it interesting. Definitely not always easy, but if you listen to the lectures/discussions and read the textbook, you'll do well.
I love Professor Clary's simulations! He has a unique simulation for each course and they're always super exciting. Also, I frequently look forward to going to his classes each day. Couldn't recommend more!
Dr. Clary is a nice enough person, but his tests are difficult. There are a few other things in the class that might help your grade, but all the test were extremely hard.
This course is definitely a challenge for a non political science student like me, but I think that's kind of the point. I had to think about things like terrorism, nuclear weapons, human rights, etc. that I've just never really thought that much about before. Dr. Clary is super nice and gives some extra credit. The tests are tough, but fair.
Clary is one of the best professors Ive had at Auburn. He loves what hes teaching about, and that makes it enjoyable. His tests werent easy, solely because of the amount of content they cover; however, he offers extra credit throughout the semester, and is a very fair/generous grader on any papers or written assignments.
Best professor Ive had so far!
Dr. Clary is my favorite professor at Auburn! He's nice, smart, and his classes are interesting! Can't recommend more!
Professor Clary has been ridiculously accommodating and flexible in the midst of the transition to all online coursework as a result of the coronavirus. I was already enjoying the class in terms of content before the switch, but Dr. Clary has made what otherwise has been a difficult time just a little more bearable. Thanks!
Dr. Clary is my favorite professor at Auburn! He is a great lecturer and really knows what he is talking about. Just go to class and you'll be fine. He also grades super fairly and really cares about his students. 10/10 recommend taking any of his classes!
Best POLI teacher at Auburn! Knows his stuff and makes a great environment for students. I had him every semester and each class has been applicable to the real world. Grading is fair and easy if you go to class. Really cares about his students and wants to see each of them succeed
Dr. Clary was a great professor! I would definitely take his class again. Be ready for group work if you take Model UN. I didn't pay much attention to lecture. His exams are open note/book and we usually had a few days to take them on Canvas. His grading is very fair. He is very knowledgable in his field and is very patient about his classes.
Dr. Clary is my favorite professor at AU! This is my third class with him and Strategic Intellignece (3730) may be my favorite so far. Loved the simulation and the NIE memo project was difficult, but honestly one of the most interesting papers I've written while at Auburn.
I took Dr. Clary for Strategic Intelligence. After taking Strategic Intelligence, I had a change of heart and decided I wanted to work in the Intelligence Community instead of attend law school. That's how great that class was! Open note/book tests and quizzes. One simulation and an NIE memo that is super long, but increased my writing skills.
Dr. Clary is by far the best professor Ive ever taken at Auburn. This is my second time taking him, and I am taking him again next semester because I love his classes. He always knows exactly what he is talking about, and he never fails to help/explain if you dont understand. I 100% recommended taking him for any class that you can.
Dr. Clary is phenomenal. This is my first semester with him, but I have already enrolled in a class with him for the spring. The class is a lot of busywork (pack back, essays, and a simulation) but it is engaging. If you attend class regularly and put in the work you will get an A. He truly cares about his students and makes this class fun!
Dr. Clary is definitely one of the best professors at Auburn. There is a lot of reading, but most of it really isn't necessary to succeed in the class. 2 policy memos, 2 tests (both open notes), simulation, packback, participation grade and lots of extra credit opportunities. Definitely take one of his classes if you can.
I dreaded taking Political Science, but Dr. Clary made the subject incredibly interesting and easy to understand. All of the exams are online. He requires weekly discussions which were a lot of work, but overall beneficial. The UN Model Simulation was my favorite assignment in the class. Highly recommend taking Dr. Clary.
I've had Dr. Clary for several classes and will continue to take his classes. He is one of the most intelligent teachers on international affairs. He cares for each student and is a great mentor. Be ready to be active and participate in class.
He is AMAZING! He takes the time to discuss material and give good feedback for any questions needed. Plan on taking another one of his classes and he is a good grader. I recommend going to class even though its not mandatory so you dont fall behind. SO GOOD!
I LOVED THIS CLASS! He kept us engaged. The homework is not hard at all. He is very very good at responding to emails and communicating in class. Attendance was not mandatory, but I recommend going because he realizes who goes and memorizes faces and is willing to help you whenever needed. I would take this class again no doubt.
Dr. Clary is a fantastic professor who clearly knows what he is talking about. He has a passion for the course content like few professors do, which makes it more enjoyable for the student. There are quite a few papers in this course, but Dr. Clary does not grade unfairly. Would take another course with him.
Dr. Clary is the best! He is so intelligent and gives alot of assignments that allow you to gain experience in what you are learning. There are lectures, but he posts them on canvas and we have alot of class discussions. Make sure you go to class and pay attention because you will learn so much and the tests are not all multiple choice.
After taking every class that he has offered here at auburn, I can say that Dr Clary is hands down the best teacher/professor I have ever had over all of my time in school. He truly cares about each and every one of his students, and will take the time to get to know you, and help you in any way possible, if you give him the opportunity. 100/10
Dr. Clary is by far my favorite professor I have ever had at Auburn - incredibly caring and accessible, and truly engages you with the content. He's not a super tough grader, but definitely be ready to put the effort in. Highly recommend this class and any he teaches!
He is so knowledgable and passionate, but dear Lord this man can talk. He has discussed World War 3 at least 30 times over this semester, and over half the time it doesn't even pertain to what we are talking about. I liked him but would not really recommend him. We do SO much nonsense work it's insane. Simulation games, Packbacks, Inquizitives, etc
Clary is great, but his workload can be challenging. Lectures are very engaging. There's a semester long group project too, which will consume a lot of your time in and out of class. Can be a tough grader, but is fair. Would definitely take one of his classes again.
Note: this is POLI 3170, Russian Foreign Policy. There is a good deal of work in this class, but Dr. Clary is a great teacher. It is very easy to learn from him. He's got a solid sense of humor on him, and it isn't hard to get a good grasp on the major points in the course. Also no tests, so nothing to study for.
Might seem a little intimidating because of his lecture style but a very understanding guy. If you communicate well with him you'll be fine. He basically has long conversations with students during his lectures which is a little weird to get used to but nice when you want to know more about a topic. Russian foreign policy is a really fun course.
Dr. Clary is an amazing teacher how really cares about his students. He is always available to help you out and answer any questions you might have. His lectures are great and engaging. The grading is very clear. Make sure to show up to class as he covers everything that will be on the quizzes and tests. The lectures are key to being successful.
The best poli sci professor at Auburn plain and simple. I have taken every one of his courses and would take more if possible.
Very assignment-heavy. The assignments aren't too difficult, but there are so many of them. Weekly discussion board posts, Chapter quizzes, essays, Model UN, and more. Professor Clary is a good teacher and takes feedback well. Everything is online so attendance is not necessary, but be prepared for a lot of assignments.
I really enjoyed this course! Dr. Clary tries to keep the material relevant and interesting even though most students aren't political science students. He is also super responsive to student's needs/issues and is open to feedback. I would definitely take more of Dr. Clary's courses if I were a political science student...
He is the best! Class is a little discussion heavy but it's interesting and he makes you want to participate. There are three textbooks but I never used them and made A's on all the exams. He really cares and wants his students to do well. there are a few papers but he's willing to provide feedback and it's clear what he wants
One of my favorite teachers. Is very involved and cares. A few big group projects mixed in with papers and homework + exams - lots of writing for everything but worth it. Lecture heavy but they are engaging and you learn a lot, its more a conversation with class. He is always available and gives great feedback. Make sure to go to class & work hard.
Dr. Clary is by far the best teacher I have had at Auburn! I am not a political science major, so I wasn't really expecting to enjoy a gen ed class like this. However, because of his amazing teaching this quickly became one of my favorite classes ever!! I could write an essay on how much I love this class and his teaching but the word limit is 350.
Dr. Clary is the best professor that I've ever had at Auburn! He is genuinely passionate about the material that he teaches, which makes his lectures interesting and engaging! The work he assigns is very manageable! He cares about his students and wants to see them do well and is wiling to work with them to help them be successful.
Dr. Clary is awesome! His lectures are more like a conversation or like hearing a good story. I'm a nursing major, so global politics isn't my greatest interest, but this course made me much more interested and I wish that I could take a few more of Dr. Clary's classes! Take him--you won't regret it!
Dr. Clary is one of my favorite professors. He lectures in a way that makes it a conversation with the class. The material is not that difficult, but you do have to take notes and pay attention. He is a very nice and funny guy, and I would 100% recommend taking him!
All writing assignments, the only multiple choice was on the final. All assignments were open note and online, and easy to get good grades on if you write about what he's looking for (reading or lecture material). Be sure to not use sources outside of the class. There will be times where class load is very little, but sometimes it's a lot.
I really enjoyed this class. We talked about a lot of things going on in the world like the war in Gaza or Ukraine and what they mean to US national security, but did it in an engaging and not too politically charged way. I also enjoyed the national security simulation we did and how practically oriented the paper projects were.
Loved this class! Dr. Clary started most classes with a trivia or fact about the different nations in East Asia and that helped to ease us into class. I learned a ton about the history of the region and about the different governments in East Asia. Truly a wonderful class and I can't recommend it any more highly for POLI and non-POLI majors alike!
Dr. Clary is easily my favorite professor at Auburn. I've loved all my classes with him, and strategic intelligence was no exception. The biggest parts of the class are the PDB group paper, simulation, and NIE Memo which you work on throughout the semester. He truly cares about his students, and I can't recommend him enough!
Such an amazing teacher. Always take his classes. Really good lectures and fair grading. Some big projects throughout the semester but gives you plenty of time for them. One of the projects is a group activity and simulation which was very fun. Only great things to say about Dr. Clary.
An amazing teacher. I wouldn't say this is a hard class. All of the assignments are online.
I highly recommended him. I took this class as one of my credits towards my social sciences and it was so easy. he also does a good job at looking at both sides of politics and now showing what side he cares more about. He lectures basically the whole class but it is information you can follow. overall he is super easy and a good professor.
He is very clearly passionate but his lectures are very boring so I would try to avoid taking this class if it is longer than the 50 minute blocks just because you will fall asleep. He also has a million assignments but they are all super easy so you just need to have time to do busy work but you can do it while doing something else if you want.
Dr. Clary is an amazing professor. Lectures are well organized and presented, and class discussions are engaging. Complex topics are explained clearly. Don't take this class if you do not like group assignments or participating. The class is very enjoyable and and the workload is manageable.
