Matt is very nice. He changes lawspeak into english. He makes the subject very interesting. It doesn't hurt that he is very nice to look at. He helps you out. Participation will really bump up your grade. Don't count on reaching him outside of class.

Probably the most laid back and clear speaking professor I have ever had. If you dont know anything about law, he'll explain every word and concept to the finest detail. All tests and quizzes are essay, but they are easy if you go to class and take notes.

i want this man to marry me. he's LOVELY to look at. hes teaching skills are amazing. his class is supposed to be 1hour n 15 min, we RARELY went over 40 minutes. If you have to take this class, take it with him, hes amazing, if every prof was like him i'd have a 4.0 gpa.

Prolly the best prof I've ever had. Explains everything in detail, VERY clear, easy tests if you've gone to class. Go to class, learn the material, the only way you could screw up is if you cut class. Not bad to look at either. The class was supposed to go until 3:15, 90% of the time we got out at 2:45. The best part was I learned so much too!

He goes over all of the cases in depth, but you still should read for the sake of participation points...he gets frustrated if no one volunteers. He's a very good professor that knows his stuff!

Coffey is a legend. Take this guy even if you don't need the class - you'll learn a lot and you can count on being let out 15 minutes early every class period. Go to class so you can take notes, and go over the cases. The tests are ok a few mc, and a few essay. He tells you what the essays will be. You have one research paper to write other than that not bad.

I had the 8 AM class, and i was dreading it, but he wanted to start 15 minutes later to cut us a break and let us sleep in. good guy, very helpful, always asks if you have questions. I never read one case in the book just took a lot of notes in class and ended up with an A-. In my top 3 teachers so far at central.

Definitely take this class to fullfill your u/p's. One of the easiest classes I've had. Go to class, take notes, write up an outline for essay exams and you'll get no less than a B, probably an A.

Matt is an excellent professor! Skim the cases before you come to class and take notes. If you do these two things, you will be fine. Exams are all essay, be sure to answer questions completely. No homework, but read the cases! Very clear when he speaks and is very knowledgable in the area. Also, don't be afraid to speak up in class and help him out a little.

This class was a joke. I never read the cases but I did go to class. I got an easy A. He was very interesting and made all the concepts easy to understand. He was a great prof.

Coffey is a really great professor, BLR 222 is a really easy, but really interesting class. We never were in class the whole time, and I never had to actually read the cases, he goes over it and makes everything super easy to learn. He also canceled class once because he said he was probably still going to be recovering from the weekend!

attendance isnt mandatory but if you want to know the info, go to class! he summarized every court case, write it all down! don't buy the book, you dont need it. there were 2 quizzes (2 Q each) and 3 exams (5 Q each) all essay. he's the slowest grader in the world so don't expect to know your grade for at least a few weeks.

Very clear in his lectures, let's you know important points for the exams. Exams are all essay, he tells you all the questions in advance, and are really easy to study for from his notes. Highly recommend him for these awful UP classes.

Mr. Coffey is an amazing teacher and person! I wouldn't go so far as to say that his class is EASY, he's just a GREAT teacher. The material is interesting & he is easy to listen to. Just make sure that you go to class! He will tell you what's on the tests. You definitely have to study some, but tests are straight forward. (and yes, he's gorgeous)

Nice instructor. The class is kind of easy, but you'll still have to work. His tests usually have 3-4 essays and MC. He'll tell you what to study, but make sure you can write a good essay on each topic. He usually cuts class short, which in my opinion was a bit of a waste of my time/money. But, all together, good guy, knows his stuff...

Great professor! His class is very interesting and helpful for HR majors! I wouldn't say the material is easy, but he makes it easy to learn. Great teacher, didn't think I'd have any interest in the subject but ended up loving this UP because of the way he taught it!! Exams are essay form, but if you attend class, it's easy, he repeats everything and gives detail on all notes. Totally a silver fox so that's a bonus ;-)

He is one sexy man. You need to attend class in order to get the notes (he doesn't use powerpoints). You'll get out early every time. 4 or 5 exams, essay, but only made up of 4 or 5 questions and he tells you the topic of each question prior to the exam. Good class, very interesting.

This class was so easy. I actually loved coming to class because he made it interesting.He grades essays really hard though and that is all your grade consists of. It was my worst grade ever, but I would still recommend him. If you show up participation will at least get you a passing grade

Excellent professor. Explains material SO well! Doesn't seem very "involved" at CMU (ie- only there two days a week, doesn't really use Blackboard, etc) so if you have a question, flag him down after class! But he is very friendly and is willing to help if needed. VERY knowledgeable about the subject material (employment law) and law in general.

I had this as an 8AM class and didn't miss once. Great professor, your grade consists only of 4 essay exams, but he explains stuff so well and makes it interesting. Great class to take for a UP, as the others in the category aren't as interesting.

Pay attention to his lectures and you will pass the class, it is as simple as that. He recommends you read the cases before class, but it is not necessary because he goes over them in detail. Gives assessments with 5 questions paragraph style. Make sure to explain the rule of law & then apply it. He is clear when explaining and welcomes questions.

Dont buy the book, and dont ever expect a response to an email. Not hard class at all though go to class and listen to the lectures and you will be fine. Tests are alot of written answer but even though he never once gave a test back judging by the grades i got i dont think he grades very strictly. He is a nice guy and good teacher.

I am not interested in anything related to politics or history of the law, but Professor Coffey is one of the most outstanding professors I have ever had. He cares and he makes the lectures really interesting. He is a 10/10 professor.

This was one of my favorite professors at CMU. He is genuine, respectable, and knowledgable. Lectures are very important so show up and get engaged. Take thorough notes and study them. Make sure how to explain things discussed and go the extra steps to get a good grade. He is very helpful and great at teaching. A+

So I had to take this class to graduate because its a university requirement and my major doesn't have anything to do with law. However, I loved this class and I loved Coffey. One of the best professors I had so for and he's a hottie. Definitely recommend taking this class with him... lets you out early and is super understanding if you miss.

I seriously loved this professor. He was very straight forward and only gave you the information you NEEDED. My favorite thing about him was you could literally send him a text and he'd meet with you, go over your exams, and if you can validate your answers and prove your thinking, he'll give you the points back. Mr. Coffey does not use slides or handouts to supplement his lectures, and in many law classes under many instructors, this would lead to confusion. However, he is a dynamic speaker who contextualizes each term or concept mentioned and has a way of crafting a narrative when speaking. I learned a great deal about employment law and would take again.

I really liked all of the material we covered in class. He was accessible outside of the classroom, and answered any questions that I had. The only thing I didn't really like about the class was that he never used Blackboard, so I never knew where I stood in the class. When I emailed him about it, he got right back with me with a grade calculation

Will have a case brief every friday and you do not have to go to class to pass. Super easy, great guy, will help you, very laidback, and you can text him with any questions. Although, he will not put any grades into blackboard, zero.... So just make sure you text him asking for your grade and keep up with checking it, you'll be fine .

Make sure to take good notes bc he does not post notes. Hyflex is a good choice. Overall good teacher. but he does take a long time to get grades in.

Extremely dense lectures, only interesting to me because I like law. Case briefs are C/NC which is nice and the only substantial grade comes from 3 exams which are extremely long (each one took me at least 3 hours to complete). Also takes forever grading, I still haven't gotten an exam grade back that I did in March lol. Nice guy tho

Professor Coffey is an outstanding guy with a very straightforward class. Lectures are just him covering info, usually for 40 minutes, which you can attend either in person or on webex. Taking good notes is key for passing. Tests are long and each worth 25% (35-50 questions), but if you take good notes you'll be fine. Friday is work from home day.
