I am very fortunate to have Professor Coulter for my History II class. He explains everything very clearly and makes sure everyone understands. He seems to enjoy what he does and the students learn heaps of knowledge from his lectures.
By far my favorite professor!!! He is absolutely wonderful. I urge everyone to take this course. He makes learning history very easy and clear. His test are basically 35 multiple choice & short essay question. Please do yourself a facor and take his class...you won't regret it!
What can I say? I miss his class. This dude's rad. If there is any way to take this class, do it. If there isn't? Find a way. His lectures are interesting. He has a great character. He's really nice. He makes history fun. How can you go wrong with that?!?
Mr. Coulter is AWESOME - I've never met someone who was so enthusiastic about teaching history!! He is a great teacher and if you study and attend his classes its almost impossible to fail! I Miss his class ...
He is probably the best professor I have taken yet. He is very clear and presents material in a fun way. He is also funny loves to get "high" on history. Test questions were straight forward and not meant to confuse you. He's not a push over but if you do what your told I dont see how you can't get an A. I made a 95.3
He's genius, I've never met someone so interested in history in my life. His class is not at all boring, as he makes sure to point out interesting history that's close to home instead of keeping it all so distant (as every other history professor I've had did). I especially appreciated his encouragement to "get high on history".
makes it interesting, no memorizing dates and lots of useless info, great sense of humor

Great teacher.
Best Teacher i have ever had. No useless date memorization. The kind of teacher you can literally pay attention in class and make an A on the exam without studying. The reason for that is he is so extremely clear in what he says. Everyone can grasp what he is saying and for some reason be able to remember it. I dont know how he does it. Excellent.
If your looking for a blow off class this is the one. If you fail this class you either having a learning disablity or not showing up to class. As a history major I was disapointed by the lack of material taught in his class. I personal thought he dumbed down the material and taught at a junior high level.
i hated his class i died of bordom because he kept on talkin and talking
This is deffintley a blow off class if you just pay a little bit of attention during class and write down the notes he puts on the board, read the pages he says "pay close attention to" you are guaranteed an A!
Very great class. It is based on a point system. You have to go to every class. Take down the notes on the board and you will pass with an "A". Take as an express it is even better...
Great teacher! Tested on his lectures. Very energetic, knowledge and passionate about his subject matter
loves to get "high on history", as he says. Very energentic about history and is very clear. Tests start out easy and get a little harder. Gives a bunch of extra points so you should do just fine if you show up, pay attention, and learn to get high on history
Very awesome teacher, when you need a good teacher this is it he loves what he does and likes to debate on history so check him and is worth taking!!
Professor is the BEST professor EVER. I am disgusted with the negative comments before mine. His optimistic perspective of everything makes the class experience that much more enjoyable! He makes it very easy to obtain a very high grade with use of overhead visuals, lectures ( a lot :-) ), a break to diminish the "boredom" that someone referred too
Nice guy, a caring teacher but has short essays on tests if you like 2 write, but makes the class very fun to learn so I would recommend him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very easy to make a good grade in Coulter's class. He lectures like an auctioneer. All you have to do is listen/take notes from lectures, and find key points in the textbook to pass the tests. He's not the type to have you memorizing names and dates and times... He wants you to understand the importance of history.
Very good professor. In my opinion. One can tell he enjoys it. Writing is a big requirement for him. Almost every class you are writing something for a grade. He loves to lecture and has them down pat. Would be hard to fall asleep in his class. He is sneaky at test times - listen very very close on review and you will do well. *recommended*
I don't know why everyone is saying he is an easy A. He doesn't give any exam reviews. Only 10 extra credit points are given throughtout the entire semester. He talks way too fast. Doesn't count attendance, but gives writing assignments almost every class, so if you miss class you won't get to make those up.
He's great!!! I would recommend him, he's very passionate about history and it starts to rub off! He's not overly hard, but makes you work. Helpful, and cares about your grades. He made class fun (in other words you don't hate having to go!)
Mr. Coulter should win an award. He was energetic and very clear with his lectures. I loved the fact that he does not require you to memorize dates or any of the nonsense that other teachers require. I really enjoyed his class and didn't want to miss any days.
This class was pretty sweet. Coulter really dumbs things down for us community college rejects which is nice. Having completed this class, I feel more up to speed with the rest of educated Americans and their history knowledge. The movie clips were entertaining as well. DUCK AND COVER!
I enjoyed Professor Coulter's class. You can definitely tell he enjoys teaching and is very passionate about the subject matter. If you show up for class, do the short writing assignments, and read the material, you shouldn't have a problem passing his class. I'd recommend him.
LET'S GET HIGH ON HISTORY!!! Alright haha he loves history so his lectures are anything but mundane. the work is easy... group/ind. writing opportunities, 1-3 projects or papers and a a few tests. good to be in class to get writing opp. and take notes for test. on a scale of 1-33:low:high he's a 30.
Took him for HIST1301, taking him again for HIST1302. He knows what he is teaching. Fun history fun. Tests are not easy.
He's very clear...You don't need to do a lot of reading but honestly it is interesting after you've taken the notes. Just show up and listen...not too much studying neccessary if you've taken notes. Coulter is good about being non-partisan when teaching...
For those of you listening to him read this to you in class, don't worry, he's really an excellent professor. Very passionate and knowledgable about history. Show up, do the homework/project, do the multiple choice tests = relatively easy A. Also succeeds in holding your attention thoughout the class period. Definately one of Quad C's finest.
his tests suck and he never shuts up,
I thought he was great! The class was interesting and not too tough, so stress doesn't prevail over learning. Show up & prepare so that you earn an easy 50 points--no brainer. Will take him for 1302 if possible! Fun class.
I really enjoyed his class, which is saying alot because I hate history. His tests are reasonable. Come to class and take good notes and you'll do fine. I didn't need to read the text very much but I know some students who did. He gives extra credit and makes it possible to get an A. I would take him again.
awesome teacher. highly recommended. take him for both history classes. NOT a blow off class though. simple assignments. test questions were a little confusing but not bad. taking notes is not enough for an a or b, read through the book the day before test. cool guy. holla
he's really enthusiastic about the class and makes it fun. the tests aren't the easiest but the class is enjoyable. i highly recommend him.
He is HIGH on History. Easy tdeacher, goes over everything. Take notes and you'll do fine. he will answer any question and make sure you understand.
i went to class stoned every day and managed to get an A. he is pretty fair as a grader and he knows you wont remember **** about history so test material is pretty simple and basic. go to class and you wont have to study for the tests. we did a fairly simple lab project in which you could choose to do a group presentation or write a paper. easy A
He's AWESOME!!:) take his class if you can! He's probably the best professor I've had at CCCC. He reviews everything before the test, he has a lot of awesome visuals, and he writes his notes on the board and he's really enthusiastic so it's hard not to learn :) If anyone is going to make you like history it's him!
Took the summer session.. Definitely one of the best profs I've had... Wasn't expecting this from a community college. Makes the material interesting and easy to keep interest.
Took Expressed class- he was interesting and really focused on "life" in the history as opposed to date and facts and figures. He talked way too fast though - I wondered when he took a breath! Definitely recommended - especially if you want things easy & you're organized - but listen CAREFULY as things like "a quiz next class" will be said quickly
Excelllent teacher, would recommend to everyone. Test are based on lectures, group activities all the time which helps your grades. Easy A, somewhat blowoff. Don't need to work hard since history is not most of our subject. Took him with calculus and other hard classes, barely had time to study for his class, managed to get an A
It is easier to learn when your professor really enjoys what he is teaching. I really loved this class so much that I am taking US History 1302 with Coulter again. I don't need the class for my Associate degree but I want to take it.
Mr. Coulter is the man. He understands that not everyone is going to be a history major. In fact most people arent going to be history majors. So he wants his students to understand history and not memorize dates. As long as you go to class and pay attention you will make a good grade in the class.
He hi really good. Don't need to take the whole semester for only hist 1301 or 1302 take both with him express like 1301 from Jan-March and 1302 from March to Mai. U wont regret it....
He is a history ****!!! Just go to class and take notes and you will do fine. He has more teaching methods than Bruce Lee has killing methods. You must have the "stupid gene" if you can't pass this class with a B.
He is a History P I M P!!!! Rock on Mr. Coulter!!!!
Cool guy, he has a doctorate, so he know his subject really well. His timelines can get a bit dry if you're not into history, but if you're interested in the subject, this is definitely your guy.
Take this class. Great Prof. Gets that most of us won't be majoring in history. Gives you a sociological perspective on history to help you remember what happened and some of the stuff behind it not WHEN. Doesn't hang on dates. Easy if you show up and pay attention. Wish I had taken him for 1301!!! Great Prof. Makes history interesting.
This teacher is awesome. He loves his job and his motivation rubs off on his class. He is very involved and he emphasises key events not learning dates and names. The best teacher I have ever had period.
amazing! I wish I had him as a professor for all my classes! He made me love history, before taking him i hated history! you will regret not taking him! he's so cool! i took him expressed both history 1 & 2, LOVED IT!!!
He is a history nut, and he really gets into it.. Attend class and you make a B, Attend Class + Study, make an A. Sometimes class seeems very long, he rarely lets you out early.
I took him for HIST 1301 and 1302 and enjoyed his class. As long as you do the reading, take decent notes, and pay attention when he lectures, this class is easy. He explains things well and knows his subject. His class even helped me while taking GOVT 2301 and 2302.
AWSOME Prof. Show up, Show interest, take notes, read book - easy A.
Prof. Coulter is amazing! You will not be sorry by taking his history classes. He is a baby-boomer and has the wisdom to teach what you need to know! He is also a published novelist - read his books!!! Go to class, take a few notes and you will get an A - no problem. He cares, and it shows. He helps you get "high on history!" Have a good time!
He is great!!! very easy A- you would have to sleep thru all his classes to not get an A. Very enthusiastic and fun tries to get you "high on history". I would definitely take him again- and I wish that I could take him for next semester too!!
great professor, helps you to get high on history, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, took him for first semester, im looking forward to the next sem with him. great class, listen in class and get an A
I enjoyed his class a lot. Be prepared to be in class for the entire class period. But his lectures are interesting and easy to understand. He repeats things so many times that you can't possibly forget it unless you are mentally ill. Take him, won't regret it.
He's alright. People praise him too much on here. Explains material well and grades fairly. nothing great about him though.
I took him for HIST 13O1 and Hist 1302. great guy, go to class take notes you will make an A. he is pretty cool and he will read this website in his class.
He does keep to till the veryy last second of class, and if you find him repeating himself a lot its because that information will be on the test! Hes energetic and he understands if you have things going on beyond the classroom, however attendance is crucial because most of what is on the test comes from lectures. Take notes from the board!! =A
Very Passionate about his profession! attend class or you'll be lost on the test! lectures are reflected on the tests! Our class was his guinea pig on reading a novel and writing a paper on it (labs) every week! My class was an express class so it was overwhelming! other than that he is a very cool professor def. recommend Professor Coulter!
VERY RECOMMENDED -1301 & 1302- He is known as History ****, and I am strongly adgree with them. this guys is a pro and knows what he is talking about , no F***ing around , no more play with that tools = you make an esay A - TIPS: if you find him repeating himself a lot its because that information will be on the test...
I thought Professor Coulter was great, i think hes very helpful, man i knew nothing abt history at first but after 1301 i knew everything, i'm taking him again for 1302 he is awesome, but u musttttt pay attention... it helps!!!!
oh and one more thing, if u don't pay attention for more than a minute u will b lost i promise u... so advise guys pay close attention, but its interesting and helpful....
Professor Coulter is a fantastic professor who is extremely interested in what he is teaching. He mainly lectures and asks that you take notes, but he doesn't care what you do as long as you don't disturb others. His tests are easy if you have been to class and have taken good notes. The best part it that there are NO dates on the test!
He is the best teacher ever!!! Take him if you can!!!
He's a nice teacher but he talks really fast. Most of the tests are based on his lectures and the notes that you have to take in class.
He is one of my all time favorite teachers, only 1 other teacher ever is as cool and good of a teacher as him.
Bring some energy to every class meeting its required. You will not regret taking this class with Dr. Coulter. Take notes and don't miss a day, you will come out with an A in the end, if your do that.
It is easier to learn when your professor really enjoys what he is teaching. He doesn't make you memorize dates and understands that most of us are not going to become a history major. I really loved this class so much that I am taking US History 1302 with Coulter again. I don't need the class for my Associate degree but I want to take it.
Makes learning fun. I really enjoyed learning history in his class. He uses a good variety of teaching methods like movies. If you are willing to read 15 short/clear pages or even just the summary a couple times you can pass the test with an A for sure.
okay...the only reason I ended up with a C is because I HARDLY went to class, and that's my own fault. When I did go though, I understood EVERYTHING and got A's and B's on my exams, then I started slacking. I highly recommend him, but note that attending class & being an actual responsible college student is required. I regret goofing off so much.
Attendance is a Must! The test comes from lecture notes. You only need the text book for a couple homework assignments -- almost pointless to buy a book. Suggest photocopying pages from the library. Easy teacher, easy class. If you can't pass this class, you should just get a job in McDonalds...
Great teacher. Took one of his learning communities intending to enjoy the Criminal Justice part more, but I got super interested in History! I like jis style of teaching plus he really encourages class interaction with each other, so I met lots of friends and felt bonded to my classmates. I like his style!
Fun class
He is the BEST professor I have ever had. He was helpful, passionate about history/the world, experienced, etc. The way he presents information makes you care about history even if you haven't had an interest in it before. His lectures are varied in style (photos, stories, video clips) as well as engaging and relevant. Take his class if you can!
He is the beat teacher. Very friendly and relates history just the way youngsters would relate to you. Barely have to read a lot unlike other classes of reading the textbook. All i can say is he is superb. Take im wothout a doubt
Lets get high on history! I took him for 1301 and was more than happy to recommend him to anyone. He can relate history to just about anything to help you remember, gives you alot of opportunities to do well. Attendance WILL reflect your grade in his class. Funny guy also and truly is an everyday history buff. HIGHLY recommend him to anyone!
Very good teacher. You got a question he's got the answer. He's always upbeat and seems to enjoy what he's doing which makes the class bearable. Take him and you will pass. :)
Liked his class so much I took him for Hist 1302 Too!!!He is a great professor. Very friendly and is open to questions and making sure the students understand the material. ATTEND CLASS!!! Testing is done from his lectures. He will even tell you what is important for the test. HE ROCKS!
Terrible! uses dates when he says he wont, 1/2 questions ARE from the book, extremely opinionated, and if you have a different opinion than him, get ready! He didn't give me ANY benefit (98 on class proj. for pre-approved change and everyone else got a 100). He has no clue what he is saying! He didn't even understand my simply-worded questions!
If you attend class, listen to what he says, puts on the board and have a bit of common sense. This is a guaranteed A.
Over all a good teacher. Coulter is extremely enthusiastic about this course, he loves to teach history. The class was not difficult. The only part that I did not like was the writing prompts we had to do all the time. He also shows pictures from different places he has been that relate to the topics, which is interesting.
I started this class a little worried and concerned about how well I would do because history isn't one of my favorite subjects. By the end of the course I didn't want it to stop! This is easily my favorite class and his way of making history personal and close is a gift. Come to class and pay attention and you'll do well. I'm taking 1302 now!
His class is very esasy once you get use to his teaching style. The test are from the lecute, so attendance is a must. Dont waste money on a text book
Professor Coulter is a nice professor. Do as he asks and you will receive a fair grade. Tests are easy if you take good notes. Attendance is a must!
Tests are really hard if you don't read the book. READ THE BOOK. He doesn't give a review so it's hard to know what's going to be on any of the tests. He's nice and always willing to help out.
MUST ATTEND CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS. His test are based on his lecture, so show up. He talks very fast mostly when his into the subject. The book we sometimes used it but you can just check it out at the library and will be fine. also he looks like Bob Ross (:
I do not like history classes and always received bad grades. When I took this class, Matthew Coulter made this class SUPER interesting to me! The tests were pretty straight forward. If you go to class and study before an exam you'll do fine! He doesn't do power points or post anything on blackboard so be sure you're attending class! Easy A.
Very nice guy who doesn't push for participation. his tests are pretty straight forward, take notes on what he writes on the board, it's literally answers for the test. pretty enthusiastic and tries to make my 3 hour class as fun as possible ! would recommend and take again
Best lecture-er I've ever had, took him for 1301 & 1302 express courses. Although the lectures are long he does a great job of getting to the point and giving you the information you need. As long as you take notes and do the take home writings he gives out, your gucci. Test can be difficult just DON'T take it when ur high, reread the questions.
There are 4 tests in his class and as long as you listen to his lectures and take notes you will easily pass. If you just put in the effort and you can easily pass. It's not necessarily hard but you do need to put in the work. The book is helpful but you could pass just by taking notes on his lectures. Would take this professor again.
Probably the best professor I have ever taken. He explains the material so well in the lectures and presents it in a way that sticks in your head that you barely have to study for the tests. All around, a great professor and a really great dude. I wish he taught more than just history, because I would take him for every class if I could.
University-tier professor. Lectures were enthralling . Provided fresh new insight and perspectives on historical events that might otherwise seem static. He cares about his students success and grasp of the material. Very objective. Encourages students to ask questions. Tests are mostly lecture based, so just pay attention and all will be well.
He is a really great professor. His lectures are easy to understand and cover about 95% of all test questions.
Very knowledgeable! Lectures were funny and really interesting. Kind grader and gives back good feedback. Tests were easy, simple, crystal clear, no deception. Attendance is kinda mandatory because sometimes he'll pass out helpful handouts necessary for the test.
Great teacher, 5 tests no final, a couple essays (easy grader, will mark down for grammer error), i had an average of 96 in his class, but made one bad grade on an exam (75), and it brought my grade down to a 89, worked the rest of his class trying to bring it back up to an A. He doesnt offer extra credit, so stay on your A-game.
I took this course fall 2015. Prof Coulter is great teacher. I loved his lectures. He's happy to engage with students, but also makes it clear he wants to get the content across. He uses most of the time allotted for the class, but it was usually really interesting. Show up, do the work, you shouldn't have an issue passing.
I took his express classes in one semester and it was super easy. The tests were pretty easy, just be sure to go to class, take notes & study. It is really important to do the preparation for the writing assignments too so you can do well (only time I used the textbook). He makes the class interesting and is always willing to help. Take him!
Had him for both 1301 and 1302. He's an amazing professor, with such a good personality! Really enjoyed his class.
I absolutely loved the class! His teaching style is a mixture of both visual and auditory lectures. The tests were fairly easy because he doesn't put anything on the test that was not already discussed in class. Not only was he funny, he made the content enjoyable to learn. I am definitely signing up for his History 1302 class!
I love Prof Coulter! He is hilarious and passionate about his teachings. Lectures are easy to follow, and if you listen in class you can make an easy A. He also doesn't use textbooks which is a plus! Took him for both history 1301 & 1302. Absolutely wonderful! Must take him!!
Professor Coulter is hands down one of the best professors I've had. He makes history enjoyable and easy to understand. He doesn't use a book, and you definitely have to attend class to get the information needed for the tests. His tests are very straight forward, and if you attended lecture, they're really easy. I would reccomend taking his class.
one of the best professor at collin i took him for History 1301 and History 1302 he makes history fun and interesting, show up to class take notes , tests are based off notes and class activities, i would definitely recommend this professor he is very knowledgeable.
Professor Coulter has been the best prof Ive had. Hes very passionate about history. His lectures were interesting. Everything on the test was gone over in class. 100% recommend
Best professor I've ever had. Textbook is free and online. He gives lectures and tells you exactly what you need to know for the test. It's impossible for you to fail with him, just come to class and pay attention! He made me fall in love with history, and I cannot wait to take HIST1302 with him. Seriously, TAKE HIS CLASS.
You can tell how much this professor loves History. He makes the lectures interesting, and the tests are completely from the lectures. He said his goal was that we would not forget what we learned when we completed the course, and I think he did a very good job cementing the subject in my memory.
Prof Coulter is a very nice professor who aims at impressing history on the minds of his students and wants us to "get high" on history! The textbook used was a free online book called American yawp. He is very opinionated so you might want to follow and believe his line of thought to understand his subject which he explains without taking breaths!
Took this as a learning community combined with health. Best decision I've ever made. They are a hilarious combination that makes history fascinating and easy. You will love this class. With or without the learning community, he is very easy going and calm. 10/10
I absolutely LOVED professor Coulter! He made history so easy to understand and remember! His lectures are really interesting! I'm not a history person, I've never been someone who likes history but Professor Coulter made it so interesting! His tests are really easy he literally says what exactly will be on the test while he is lecturing!
Such an amazing professor, especially if history isn't your major or an isn't interest of yours. He makes learning history easy and fun. I definitely plan on taking another one of his classes!
Love him. It was hard to hear him sometimes cause he talk really fast, just ask, he would repeat it for you. Just show up and take notes, you will pass. He get straight to the point, easy to understand information, tests were all from the lecture, no trick questions. He made hist class easy for me,who hate hist with every fiber and cells.
You can tell he has a passion for history. And that is what makes him a good teacher. His test arent impossible to pass just study your notes that he writes on the board and that is all you got to do. DO his writing oppurtunities!! They are extremely easy and it helps your grade. He is a really nice guy. He never got on anybody. He is always happy
He made history interesting for me and he tells you what you need to know for the exams. He likes to get straight to the point, so his classes never feel like a waste of time. If I missed a day of class, it would hurt me since my class met up once a week, but the writing opportunities and exams are easy to score high if you take good notes!
I had this online due to corona. Not a bad teacher. The tests were based off of reading for written responses and an essay. I am lost for words how he must've graded my work as I would read every single part underling where I saw the answer and re write what I understood. I am happy but was not fulfilled for my intentions was to make an A .
Excellent teacher! I've learned so much about history. He truly knows his stuff and really captures your attention with his phenomenal lecture. The tests are multiple choice, but not all the questions are easy. You have to pay attention and take notes in order to et an A in the class.
He is the really bad teacher i ever had before never take this teacher if you want to pass.
I really enjoyed this class, Professor Coulter is funny and knows his stuff, but more importantly he knows what you need to know for the tests and communicates that well. If you take notes in class and review them before the tests you'll get an easy A. Highly recommend attending each class as his lectures are enjoyable and informative.
When I say the best I mean the absolute gahhh daaayyuuuum best history professor you'll get. Didn't even have to study and aced the class. (all stuff I was familiar with but if you're not, just be sure to take notes and pay attention to what he writes on the board and you're golden.) If history is a thorn in the backside for you take this class!!!!
Great Professor! Although attendance isn't required you will FAIL if you don't show up. He doesn't give reviews and his tests are everything he goes over via lecture. Show up and listen! Also, doesn't require you to buy a textbook he uses a free online version, his readings will take you 20 mins max.
