Class was pretty easy. The Prof makes it fun and interesting to learn about our government. He is relatively new so homework (ect) might change next semester. Would recommend this Professor to ANYONE!! Oh ... did I mention he is very good looking!

Great Teacher. Makes classes interesting. Expects students to have some political knowledge but moves on to another student if you don't know the answer. Very helpful and assigns extra credit. I hate politics but I enjoyed this class. Prof. Cross loves politics and is passionate about teaching it. He wants you to succeed and will help you do it. If you email him, he responds quickly. His lectures are interesting and delivered with his quick wit. And for the icing on the cake...he IS nice to look at.

A Great Class with a Great Professor! What would be assignments in other classes are considered extra credit in this class! I took the Hybrid version of the class and it was easy, as long as you do the "extra" credit you will surely get an A. The exams are all done at home and they are ALL open book!

Good Teacher. Go on Ucompass for Studyguides. Exams are at home(Some are on the broad, when he does that clicking thingy,you'll know what i mean). lots of ECredit. Dont really need to read the book, But he does get annoyed if you dont know the materials(Might have pop quiz cause of it). Watch videos in class some times. Easy A.

NOT BORING! he will educate your mind with all aspects of your government and its politics. He creates "The Macomb Experience"(for those that like to rock) and its no longer class...its oodles of learning fun. take the hybrid if your into that kind of thing, tests online...shoot yeah. great instructor! good movies.

Took two classes (POLS 1000 and 1010 Pols in Film music and art) Cross is a great teacher, taking what can be a very dull subject (even to those who enjoy it) and refining it with his wit and humor. Hardly used the book but helpful to read and use during his online/take home quizzes. I would suggest that any one takes him, liking POLS or not.

OMG the BEST teacher i have EVER had! I am not intrested in this stuff at all but he made it fun. ALWAYS telling jokes and stories. Theres never a dull moment!!! He gives 4 test(all online) and quizes here an there but there super easy. I would suggest him to ANYONE and EVERYONE! GREAT teacher :)

Prof Cross was AWESOME!! He is very knowledgeable and very funny. He is also very understanding. If you forget to hand something in or just forgot about an assignment, he'll let you turn it in after the deadline as long as you talk to him. I recommend his Politics in Film class. Professor Cross is amazing. I had virtually no interest in politics, but Professor Cross made the subject entertaining and fun. He has a great sense of humor. You'd be a fool to miss his lectures, they're great! Plus, his tests are online, and he lets you take it twice, and takes the higher grade. Take this class with him!

He's a good teacher. I took his hybrid class. I was absolutely amazed at how objective he was. He didn't have a liberal or conservative bias and refused to talk about his own political leanings, even when asked by students. This is very rare, especially for a political science teacher.

I dont know what everyone is talking about..I mean I cant say anything for his online class..but class on campus is fun and intresting.HES SUPER NICE..very understanding liked him alot, one of the best prof at MCC should def. take..dont have to take final exam if you have an A in the class..also gives tons of extra credit that brings up your grade!

I've had Prof Cross for online & on-ground classes. He's a great teacher, material is really accessible! Our online exams were actually 2 hrs for 50 questions & I seriously doubt the class average was 60%, not with my experience of the work (it seems like most people did well). Anyway, I definitely recommend his classes!

Took the condensed 3 week course over the summer. The material presented was very interesting and we were able to take the tests online at home using the books. This was worth the 3 weeks of class. Professor Cross is very energetic and upbeat.

Cross is tough but fair. It is very obvious that he loves teaching. I had some problems at work during the semester and he was very understanding about it and helpful. you have to keep up on the reading - do the study guides he gives you and take good notes, you will be fine.

Was scared to take him when I saw all the bad comments here about his online class, but I needed the class (fall 2010). Turns out Cross is a great prof. The class is easy to follow, lots of work, but no more than most online classes, and he is super helpful and understanding if u have trouble. Take him if you can, he is great & u learn a lot.

I loved having him and I would recommend him to others. His tests were done online and you could access them from home. He is a trip.

Prof. Cross has a passion for politics. He made his film class interesting but still very educational. We had weekly essays submitted online and then a huge essay at the end of term. Our class only met once a week so it was imperative that you attended, but he still cancelled about three classes. Overall, good class.

Matt was a great professor. He was very enthusiastic about the subject. His lectures were very inspirational and had me thinking long after class. Grading was high school level.

He is very enthusiastic in his lectures, provides easily understandable answers to all questions, all homework is assigned and submitted on ANGEL, and gives many extra credit opportunities. An overall really good professor. I enjoyed his class and received an A+.

Everything he does is on ANGEL. There is a weekly reading with a study guide, and then an online quiz from the reading. After a few weeks, there is an online exam. His lectures aren't usually about the weekly topic, but they are funny. A really cool guy and teacher, overall. I would recommend him.

Overall great teacher and probably the highest educated in teaching this subject. He knows his politics like the back of his hand. Mostly Angel oriented, but easy enough if you do the work. Honestly, his ranking should be higher. Only thing was he is awkward and very sarcastic, which to me made the environment feel awkward.

I really had no interest in Politics before this class, but I ended up LOVING the class. VERY funny allows you to work in groups for exams and quizzes on all except the FINAL. Overall, my fav class yet. He does use a lot of words to say the simplest things,lol.

Took summer online class. Read the whole textbook except for last chapter along with his lecture notes. There are 2 quizzes weekly & writings. Also, 2 exams along with an cumulative final.Enjoyed class, but extremely time consuming. Very nice professor that answers all questions quickly & gives some extra credit. Would highly recommend.

I took his online class. His lectures were very helpful and entertaining. The class is a LOT of work but manage your time & you can do well! I wish I had taken his onground class. There were things we discussed (racism, economics) that made me think different about politics & I wanted more time to explore them. Mr Cross is a great teacher.

This was the best online class I've had after three years in college. He was clear, helpful, and funny, and his lectures are great. A lot of teachers don't care if you don't understand something, and just tell you to read the book again, but he works with you to make sure you get it. He obviously cares about students doing well. Fantastic teacher! His lectures are very entertaining and lively. He acknowledges how dull and boring it can be and tries his best to make things interesting. Encourages classroom discussion but won't let it devolve into argument. Very simple homework assignments, so long as you do the assigned readings.

His lectures and homework has nothing to do with the exams. His lectures and assignments are based on his subjective thoughts and not on the actual text. He is a fun teacher if your looking for a good laugh.

Professor Cross is probably one of my favorite online classes I've ever taken. His quizzes and tests are fairly hard, but he lets you take them twice which is aweseome. He also encourages debate and discussion in our class to kind of expand prospective. As long as you keep up with the assignments and quizzes you will pass his class.

I actually learned some things, which I've never done in a politics class before. You get to take tests and quizzes twice. You can ace it the first time if you know how to search documents (ctrl+F). Hes passionate about Political Science and offers great perspective. All of the work is done online through angel, but only because that's where the free textbook is located. He encourages you to contact him and is more than willing to help,but if you're at all conscious during the lectures and you read the material its absolutely not necessary.

One short essay and quiz per week so a little writing involved but not bad at all. Also He wrote the text which you access through Angel, so no book to buy. Best professor at MCC easily!

Cross is a great guy. I wish he taught econ so I would do great in that class like i did in politics. He just has this way of making everything so interesting and not all boring and he's just a great guy all around. I would take this class a thousand times over just to have a professor as good as him.

If you are interested in POLS, this will probably be the best class you take at MCC, and if not then you'll enjoy going to class at least. He doesn't really lecture, and doesn't use power point so if you like that style you should take someone else.

Matt's not into normalcy and it's great. He knows his stuff and the class discussions are always intriguing. He does grade attendance but going to class isn't necessary other than that. Each week we had a quiz online and had to write a short summary of the week. He wrote the book and you don't have buy it. Computer access is necessary.

Cross has to be the best well rounded professor I've had so far at Macomb. He is considerate and humorous, very approachable. He assigns reading material. Test and quizzes are a breeze if you've read the material and studied. Lectures are engaging and thought provoking, which is my favorite part. You'll actually want to learn in his classes.

Never have I taken a class before where I felt like the professor cared this much about me and everyone else in the classroom. Super down to earth. I think he'd prefer it if I used the term, "chill". Wa-Dah-en-choo. Take his class, ask him what that means. or if you can "Do Wa-Dah-en-Choo"

Matthew is honestly the best teacher I've ever had. From day one, he makes it well known that he doesn't think he is any better than his students. He loves engaging in debates, and his classes were often the highlight of my week. He wrote his own textbook (which is free!) that is easy to understand with puns throughout. You'll love his classes!!

Mr cross was such a good guy and you could tell he genuinely cared about his students. He was very into the subject and would get excited over the little things which made it easier to learn for me. I wish I could have him as a professor for other classes!

Great teacher. I took his class online and passed with a grade I deserved. Summer courses are a lot of work but if you put in the effort you will be fine. Communication was not all there, but that was the only negative. Fair grader and will give you feedback.

For someone who not only has no interest in politics and did not care too, this class sure had changed my mind! Of course, no class is just a breeze. You will have to study and do a lot of reading but his discussions are SO interesting. Really makes you engaged into the topic & enjoy it! Would recommend him to others! Do the work and read. EASY.

Interesting class lots of group participation but doesn't try to kill you with work outside of class. As long as you pay attention in class there is no reason not to pass.

There was no textbook to buy, he wrote his own and will upload them on Canvas - you print it off to read (Some chp's are long). 2 chapters of reading per week, 1 quiz, 1 participation discussion and 1 lessons learned. Keep up on your work and you won't fall behind!! After 4 wks Exam 1. The end of 8 wks Exam 2 + Final.

Great Prof.. Lots and Lots of reading but you don't have to purchase any books. If you read the readings that he writes and upload then you can pass the course. Be prepared to read A LOT. I LOVE HIS WRITINGS Honestly! I got a A- because towards the end I got tired of reading and tried to take an exam without reading and learned my lesson.. LOL

This class is not necessarily hard, but be prepared to read! Professor Cross makes learning fun and exciting. He makes himself available and gives excellent feedback. I only got a B+ because I missed one assignment, getting an A was very attainable. I would recommend him to anyone taking political science!

The class I am taking is online, so it's mainly just A LOT of reading and a lot of papers either about the reading or about side reading. The textbook is written by the professor, but you don't have to buy it. He also uses the phrase "dope" in his book a couple of times which is pretty funny.

If you take his online course, be ready for a lot of work. But if you take his regular lecture class, you won't have much work and it won't be difficult. There is a bit of reading, not too bad. There's only a weekly quiz, and a lesson learned due at the end of every week. I recommend his class very much.

Professor Cross was amazing. His textbook online helps a lot for quizzes and the exams. Make sure you stay ahead in his class, it's easy to fall behind in online classes. But his due dates and time allowed is super reasonable. He was willing to hear any changes he should make for upcoming classes, he was by far my favorite professor!

This was a 8 week online class so there is a lot to do in half the usual time you'd have in a regular class. The class is organized really well, everything is laid out really clearly. I never had a class this well organized, you always know what you have to do, and what he wants from you, and gives good feedback. Definitely recommend taking him.

I took the online version of the class. If you have the option definitely take it on campus. Be prepared to read a lot with the online course, like 25-30 page chapters every two to three days with responses and quizzes. Overall really good class you do have to work for the grade but its interesting and he wrote the book so you dont have to buy it.

Matthew Cross was a great professor. I just took his online POLS1000 class, and it was just what I was hoping for. There is no textbook purchase required, as it was written by him. Just be ready to read quite a bit. Other than that, everything is laid out perfectly and the class is relatively easy. If you know your stuff, the class is a breeze.

Matthew was one of my favorite professors yet. He was very responsive, and gave good feedback and was very understanding if you had any issues/ concerns with the class. He writes the book so you dont have to pay for it which can save you HUNDREDS. The online class can keep you pretty busy but the work is very transparent and easy.

I taken him for my first class in college online and he's amazing! very inspirational and amazing at what he does. Great feedbacks and grades fairly. you don't have to buy the book he will give as pdf chapter by chapter for you and its written by him. I truly never wanted to finish his class because of how amazing his teaching.

By far, the best professor I have had my whole college career. I took this class online and everything was VERY organized. He answered any emails almost immediately and answered any questions you might have. If you need an extension for due dates, just email him and he will give you an extension. The final exam was a breeze. He wrote the textbook.

I took POLS1000 as an 8-week online course at the beginning of quarantine and Professor Cross was amazing. The reading for this class was his own book with quirky comments and facts that really make you think. As someone who is undecided, after this class Im more interested and knowledgeable about politics than ever. 10/10, highly recommend!!

Provides text book free (he wrote it). Amazing content. Participation heavy. Lots of quizzes but generous time so you can use the text. Very lenient with due dates, willing to work with students. Goofy and fun. Wish there were more teachers like him.

Professor Cross is amazing. He cares about you and is very flexible and understanding. He didn't make us buy the textbook and he provided it. Be ready there is a 400 word essay every week however. It was not hard compared to how easy the class was. All assignments are fair and relaxed grading. Tests were so easy as well.

I would consider myself pretty far right and I would think me and professor cross would necessarily agree on a lot of topics but it didnt affect the course. Great professor and class.

Awesome professor. If all of my professors were like him, I wouldn't have anxiety and depression. I would probably keep going to school for years and years. He's really personable, gives lots of easy assignments for extra grade points, accepts work a little late, and is overall an excellent teacher. No complaints about this class whatsoever.

Super great class, would 100% recommend this professor he is super understanding the assignments are engaging and not overwhelming and there is a variety of assignments. He really cares about you individually and you learning rather than just the class which was super refreshing. Definitely would take his class again.

When I was first told I needed to take a politics class I was not excited at all. But professor Cross is an AMAZING professor. I had a really close death in the family the first week of the new semester so, I was unable to complete my assignments on time and he was more than understanding and let me turn in my assignments late with no penalty.

There isn't enough you can say about this teacher from amazing charm to ethical teaching. He promotes a healthy classroom while making it all the while fun. 1000000 % recommended! Do your assignments and care and you will prosper. Very understanding, confident and, true to himself!

I've had a very hard semester (personal, health, job loss, u name it), and needed xtra time to make up assignments. Matthew always told me to take the time I needed. Other profs demanded doctor's notes, etc., but he didn't. He followed up to make sure I was ok & if I needed anything. I planned to drop, but instead I finished with an A.

Amazing guy and very easy class. Get ready to write a 400 word summary every week though.

10/10 recommend Matthew, yes you have type 400 word essays but they are very interesting I was personally able to type 400 in under and hour its not that bad. Very understanding, and wants his students to enjoy his class and not feel overwhelmed. He is a great example of a teacher that wants his students to pass not just take the class.

He's such a cool professor!!! Very fair grader, didn't penalize for late work. Really nice and understanding with things happen in your personal life. IF YOU TAKE HIM IN THE FALL ONLINE, MAKE SURE TO POST YOUR HALLOWEEN COSTUME IN CANVAS IF HE DOES OR ELSE HE'LL BE SAD

Great professor, very honest and he wants his students do be honest as well, some may think he is unprofessional but if you feel that way tell him. His teaching style is not only based on his knowledge but on the feedback from his students. If more teachers cared about students opinions the way he does, we would have better teachers.

Matthew is my favorite prof at MCC hands-down. Beyond understanding, caring, wants only the best for his students, and will help you with anything. He wrote the textbook and it's free! DB due Thurs, replies due Sat, one quiz per chapter (sometimes there's 2 chapts a week), and one mini-essay at the end of the week (min 400 words). Highly recommend!

Professor Cross is the best ever! He is 100/10! AMAZING! Worked with me even when I did horribly in my class to improve my grade! Allowed me to re-submit the wrong assignments! I do not want any other teacher other than Matthew Cross! AWESOME!

AMAZING professor. I only have good things to say about him. He is very intelligent, caring, and understanding. His assignment descriptions are very clear and I learned a lot. I was unaware this was an 8-week course so just make sure to have time to focus on this class. Overall 10/10

I made my account just to rate Mr. Cross! He is fantastic, take his class you won't regret it. The workload was a little heavy at times but nothing horrible. He makes his own textbook, which is actually very engaging and funny, and saves you money. He is super caring and actually understands students struggles, he's very lenient. I loved him!

Wonderful instructor. Honestly one of my favorite professors at MCC. The workload can be difficult sometimes but its surely worth it. He wants you to succeed & is so open to student feedback. It's refreshing to have an instructor so caring. Each week: 1-2 Chapt, 1-2 Discussions, 1-2 Icebreakers, 1-2 Quizzes (two attempts), 1 reflection assignment.

I am currently a university student fulfilling general education courses at MCC, I have to say one thing, if you have the option to take this professor, DO IT! he is genuinely one of the most caring, inspiring, and kindest humans ever, his work is straight forward and his book is extremely understanding, overall the best professor.

Amazing. One of the best teachers I've ever had. Wish I would've had him in-person. His personally-written textbook was an actually enjoyable read and free!! Super inspirational, in fact, he actually made me consider a minor in poli-sci. You'll learn a lot in this class.

Professor Cross is a fantastic instructor - engaging, understanding, and committed to helping students succeed. The workload can be challenging, but using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook and class discussions makes it very manageable. Highly recommend this course!

Professor Cross is an amazing, outspoken professor. His class was my favorite in my time at Macomb Community College.

He was one of the best professors I have ever had. He made assignments fun as he produced his own text. His text was very easy to read and understandable. He is lenient on late grades as long as you let him know. So glad I took this class and would definitely recommend.

I loved this professor. He is very knowledgeable in this subject, and does his best to stay unbiased. The text was written by him and is by far the best textbook I've ever read. It was so interesting, and easy to digest. The work load of the class can feel heavy. 2 chapters a week, two quizes, and a 400 word discussion post each week.

Mr.Cross was awesome when it comes to his class. I took online and it was very fast paced, you need to make time to do the discussion posts and actually connect back to the reading and do not half ass it.

I couldn't recommend Professor Cross more!!!!! First off, he is so funny and his online lectures are not only super helpful and informative, but entertaining. He is so flexible and accommodating, you can tell he truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I took his course online and the work load is very very manageable and not bad!

He was a very good professor. He was always fair in his grading. He gave you a lot of time for quizzes, more than enough. He allowed you to retake quizzes. He was very understanding about late assignments and was very caring. If you ever had any questions, he would answer very quickly. I would highly recommend his class!
