One of the best professors I took in Baruch!
EXCELLENT PROFESSOR! He does assign hw on regular basis & his test aren't easy easy, its short answer questions; BUT he's Very lenient with grading. His teaching style makes the class very interesting, super friendly. DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST IN BARUCH~!
If you are prepared to work hard, take his class because you will learn the material and it will apply to the real world. Nightly HW but it will only help prepare you for advance classes. I would take him again.
He gives hw daily and his test is short answer but you are well prepared the review sheet reflects the test he is an excellent teacher and he cares you will work hard but it will pay off great teacher I would take him again
this professor does not teach anything in the class time.He wastes the entire session talking about his personal life and his junk mail which is totally irrelevant to his tests and the course. He does a lousy job, not explaining clearly his numerous homework.Academically- a waste.
This guy teaches absolutely nothing. He talks about what's in the papers and nothing else. Weekly quizzes straight from the book. You'll learn absolutely nothing from his class. A total waste. Can't understand why they let him teach.
The worst possible teacher. He teaches absolutely nothing in class. Weekly quizzes are hard, the questions are all tricky and poorly worded. He still doesn't teach anything. Everyone is terrified to take the final. Avoid at all costs.
I didn't learn anything from this class, although I was pretty interested in taking it. He doesn't teach anything, and gives weekly quizes. He is not a bad guy, very nice and very knowledgeable, but you wont learn much. Maybe he is good for later courses, but I wouldn't recomend him for this one.

Very boring. Only discusses what's in the papers. Memorize the book on your own and take weekly quizzes. Also requires a book report based on two books. Final is cumulative, you'll have to memorize about 120 questions in order to pass. He plays a nice guy, but I'd never recommend him.
He was a good professor past tense, he a hard grader and expect way too much of u hw daily, reports addition reading and u need to know the whole book for his exam, stay away if u want a good grade oh yeah he talks about the mass media too much and it has nothing to do with the subject @ hand
No need to study at all. Ignore the quizez, do the HW, skip classes and study only the 120 questions for the final. For the book review just copy paste one from the web. This way you will get B+. For higher score do a little more.
He is very nice, very knowledgable and the class is not boring. Love the weekly quizes it helps alot. Gives some homework. Talks too much on topics not relating to text and test info.
This is the best teacher. He is so easy, I don't know why people complain. He curves the quizzez, the homeworks are easy (usually opinion questions), and the final are questions from the quizzes which you get back. I didn't buy the book and I got an A-. Just go to class, participate, do the hw and do the paper.
This professor is not very helpful when it comes to teaching the material for the exam, but he does give you all the questions for the exam and you just have to prepare yourself to memorize the information. if you're good memorizing this is a great class for you if not than consider another professor. the final is a killer because its cumulative.
It's super duper easy, the only class I'm not worried for when final weeks come around. Great guy.
Insanely easy, one midterm one final all based on the quizzes. DO NOT worry if your quiz grades average 50, just get a perfect score on the midterm/final (same questions) and easy A or at least A-
GREAT professor. I dont understand the people who gave him bad ratings. He brings his experience to the class. Does not have or read straight off the slides and so the class is not boring. Gives you Qs before the exams. RECOMMEND!!!
Very unfair on grading.Seen to understand student and helpful but at the end of the term he is not. student has to memorize about 35 questions for each test. and final is accumulative. he never refers to what is on the book while in class.
EXTREMELY UNFAIR!! TERRIBLE GRADING SYSTEM. GIVES ONE QUIZ EACH WEEK BUT THEY ARE LONG AND DIFFICULT. YOU REALLY HAVE TO STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF TO EARN A GOOD GRADE. TERRIBLE FINAL (60 QUESTIONS, AND NOT JUST T OR F, FILL IN AND DESCRIBE AND EXPLAIN!!!!) HE'S A GOOD GUY BUT NOT SUCH A GREAT PROFESSOR UNFORTUNATELY!!!
I also don't know why he was given bad ratings. He is a great professor. He is funny and really cares about the students. Sure there is a lot of questions to remember, but he gives us the questions before the exam!!! it's up to you to study them and remember them. He is one of the few i'll remember as a good professor here at baruch.
hahah u guYs that rated him as a good prof. are joking right?? Ya'll screwed me..i took his class....there are four test and the final....30 questions you have to memorize & questions are given in advance...but very complicated....the final is cumulative...memorize 60 questions...if you can memorize the book word by word...take him...
I think he's a fair professor. He tries to bring up current news that relate to the class which i think its great. His exams are not hard, just need to memorize the answers to the questions that he gave in advance. I like his teaching style.
I like the way he teach the class, he brings up many business current events. The quiz/test are all memorization and he gives the questions in advance for the students to study. He's a good professor with a lot of experience.
He seems pretty OK...unpredictable !!!!!
Prepare to study from a Professor who heavily relies on a text book. The grade will depend on how good your memory is and memorizing 812 pages of text is not a joke. DeLuca's lectures are so empty and irrelevant, it's insulting. Yet, he takes attendance and forces participation in baby discussions. Is it 3000 level course? What a disappointment!
HE DOESNT TEACH ANYTHING. PLS DONT TAKE HIM. UR SUPPOSED TO TEACH URSELF FRM THE TEXT.
He is a joke. Somebody pls remove him from Baruch. .......His discussions have nothing to do with the subject matter. Current affairs/news should not take centerstage in a lecture, they should only be added as a sidenote. This guy talks about irrelevant stuff that makes me want to quit the class and report him to the dean.
Never talked about anything in the book. Typical class includes reading from the newspaper and talking about current events having NOTHING to do with the reading. Quizes have AMBIGUOUS answers which is frustrating because quizes are worth 25% of the final grade. 10 quizes, 2 book reviews, 4 HWs, midterm and final. Read textbook from cover to cover.
If you are about to take this professor becuase "you work & he fits your schedule" - THINK again. His lectures have nothing to do with assignments, the book, or management in general. You will spend LOTS of time reading the text book from cover to cover (800 pages), plus 2 other books. There is no way not to read - all exams are from the books.
Horrible professor. You have a quiz a week, an assignment due like every 2 weeks, a midterm, a final and 2 book reviews. You do all this work for nothin! All he does is read from the paper everyday. His quizzes are also hard. Gotta seriously memorize the book
Why so many bad reviews? The guy is great, although he doesnt cover the textbook in class. Quizes are a PITA, but w/o them u wouldnt even touch the book at all lol. Extremely easy midterm/final - just review the quizes and make sure u know the most important stuff. Funny and energetic and practical guy, keeps u awake at 7:25 in the morning lol.
Warning: All good ratings and comments of this professor are there to trick you into taking his class so you can end up with low grades and not learning anything. He's a newsreporter covering news headlines that are completely unrelated to the topics to be covered. Memorize the textbook word by word to prepare for his weekly tricky quizzes!
He pretty much sucks. Quiz a week, 2 book reviews, hw assignments, midterm and final. It's true that all he does is read from the papers. He's okay as a person but sometimes it's like your opinion doesn't even matter. Take only if you have lots of time and if you're willing to literally memorize the book from front to back.
My fellow students avoid this professor gives a lot of hw assignments, 3 presentations, 4 exams which you have to memorize questions and then put the exact same answer to get credit hard and then he gives a killer final which is 40 % og your grade and it covers questions from the first 4 tests, so pls avoid taking this professor.
Quiz of each chapter once a week. Very intensive course. But 30% of your grade. Like an independent study. Professor comes to class to go over quiz and lecture about current events. 3 Big hw assignments.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR! Tests consist of about 30 questions each.. he gives you the questions beforehand but try memorizing ALL 30 answers and answering it word for word to get full credit.. EXTREMELY picky and takes off a lot of points. 2 presentations, group project, a lot of homework assignments! Final is cumulative.. must memorize 120 answers
One of the best professors I have ever had. If you are willing to put in a decent amount of effort, you will do very well. He gives quizzes every week to make sure you are reading the book, but spends most of the class discussing current events. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
He gives quizzes every week but he gives the questions in advance. You do need the textbook in order to pass. Spends the time discussing current events and going over quizzes. Three major assignments. Engaging and interesting class
This teacher is highly rcommended. I don't know what these students are complaining about. This is college people, you have to put in some effort. The quizzes are not difficult at all, all you have to do is read the (short) chapters. The midterm and final consists of previous quizzes, which makes it easier for us. What more do you want?
While he's a very insightful professor and speaks well, he doesn't teach anything. He'll spend more time on current events and newspaper articles (not on any exams) and spends 5-10 minutes on actual material. Studying on your own is a must. And he gives way too much work for a graduate student (book reviews, group presentation).
WOW! He sucks. Hardly covers any of the book material in class, yet you are expected to know all of it for the test. Tests are very detailed. He keeps talking about the same current events over and over again. You don't have to attend, you won't miss anything. 3 exams (60 questions each), 2 book reviews, homeworks, final and a project. AVOID HIM!
Same as what the last 2 people said. The exams (3 exams plus 1 final) comprise of stuff from the textbook, but he hardly ever mentions material from it in class. Then you have to do 2 book reviews of another two books, plus read a 3rd one partially for a group presentation. Incredible amount of work for one class. Totally not worth it.
If you've ever wanted to take a teach yourself class, then this guy is for you. I learned absolutely nothing in this class because he doesn't teach anything from the textbook in class, just goes over current events, then he gives you detailed questions from the textbook on his tests.on top of that he's a hard grader..avoid him at all costs!!
Avoid at all costs!!! You will not learn anything. He does not teach from the book, but gives detailed tests from it (every chapter). During class talks about unrelated material or about current events. Grading system is not very clear. Grades based on his opinion, but it is impossible to reason with him or to prove your point to him.
I say, register for someone else or don't register for this class at all. There is absolutely nothing positive about this professor, nothing. this class is all BS but anyone who can't memorize the book word to word (literally) will do poorly.
Please, ignore the comments below. The quizzes are not too hard, plus you get bonus points, and you only have to get a certain amount right to get full credit. The hw's are a joke, and the 2 essays were not that demanding. The midterm and final are based entirely from the quizzes you took. If you just study your quizzes, you will get an A.
He is a great professor. As long as you read the book and take the quizzes you will do fine. The two essays an dthe hw assignments were not hard. Study the quizzes and you'll be successful.
This class is easy if you read all the chapters and do the homework....my only warning is DON'T TAKE HIM EARLY IN THE MORNING..if you're a minute late, he won't let you in the class.
The class itself is very easy and laid-back. However, there is a lot of work to do: weekly quizzes, papers, couple of book reviews. All our midterm and final questions came from quizzes, even the most of essay equations. Overall, he's a very nice professor, very polite. Take him, but don't be late for class or he won't let you in.
Some of the comments are right but you have to think what suits you. I was fine with reading chapters and then have quiz every week. At least this way midterms and final were easier since I had to study only from the quizzes. Being on time makes you appreciate that nobody interrupts and noise while prof does the lecture.
You need to read the book and teach the course to yourself. He is fair and tells you exactly what will be on the test and what to expect. He likes to have his students figure things out for themselves, so if you can learn on your own, this class is for you.
I had prof. DeLuca during the online session and i have to say for the first time i felt like i was in college. His way of teaching is very good and his class is very challenging. Extremely helpful and extraordinary professor both professionaly and from the human side. His classes are for intelligent people who are willing to work hard to succeed.
I took this class online, which might impact the style of the class. Prof was more than helpful and available; the tests were standard and 100% from the text, and we knew what was coming beforehand. No surprises and the possibility of a decent grade.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GUY!!!!let me tell you about myself a bit, i am an A student, and i found this guy completely imposible i had to drop the class because his grading is imposible. yes he give you the questions for the exam before hand but you have to memorize complete definitions word for word. his test are all short answers 20 min, and HE TAKE
I've never had so much homework/papers/quizzes taking an on-line class before. There's also 2 book reports. The mandatory classes are so boring. He will cut you off during your midterm exam and tell you that there will be a discussion afterwards, so you don't have the full 3 hours to take exam. This class was just too much.
I took his online course. He gives tons of busy work. There is a quiz for all 19 chapters, plus a 250+ word essay due for each. 2 book reports, and several other assignments. the sad thing, is the grade is mostly based off 2 in class sessions where you have to come in for the midterm and final.
This class was so easy. You have to be a complete idiot to get anything lower than a B-. I just read the two chapters every week, did pretty good on my quizzes. The same questions on all the quizzes are on the midterm and final. Professor is so funny and nice. I really miss this class! :( Take!!
I took his class online and it seemed like a lot of work - 2 essays and a quiz every week + BB discussion. It is no difficult - just seemed annoying and excessive sometimes. The midterm and finals are in class (sun morning - ugh) and quite transparent and easy.
Great professor. His classes are well-organized and interesting. He is really helpful and grades fairly. The class is not difficult at all. Definitely recommend!
This class is good if you're able to memorize hundreds of testbank questions for an exam. Otherwise, good luck. You have no chance of getting an A. I got an A, but there was a lot of work.
He's a good professor. Got an A-. Focuses a lot on the textbook material, weekly quiz on 2 chapters. There's also written assignments. You basically have to just remember the words and the definitions. Midterm and Final were pulled from the weekly quizzes. Lenient on absences if you participate in class but if you're late, you can't attend class.
Mat Deluca is by far one of the best professors I've had. He is crystal clear when communicating the material and best of all, he has very interesting personal anecdotes to offer. Surprisingly, being in class at 7:25 Am didnt bother me much.
A fair grader. Professional and does teach. Opionated but open minded. I did learn so much in his class. Read the chapters assigned for quizzes, participate, and excel in book report, then getting an A is possible. I did get an A. Biggest challenge is getting up early for a 7:25am class :)
Professor is awesome. I don't understand why people reviewed him like this. He is a great professor and has so much passion what he does. I got an A and I took this class online. However, we had to attend 4 Sunday classes which was mandatory. If you think this class is hard, you didn't study enough. This is college right? He is one of best professor
Very interesting class and i really enjoyed it except for coming in on Sundays 4 times because it was an online course. However, Professor Deluca made it very enjoyable. Participate in the blackboard discussion because it is actually interesting and a good way to earn extra points. Study the quizzes to prepare for exams.
Amazing professor. He really does care about management and gives you a real outlook on work life and how to be a better manager. More course work than other management classes but worth it, because of everything you learn from him. It was an absolute pleasure to take his class.
Just read the text book. Tests are straightforward from the text. He is helpful and tolerant.
Very intelligent and well spoken. Made me want to attend class even though it was a hybrid course. At first the workload may seem a lot but just participate and read all the articles. He doesn't ask for much and is very easy going and responsive. I would take another class if i was a management major.
The exams are all based on the textbook and the questions are from the quizzes so just read the book before each quiz and review for the exam by going over the questions. It seemed like alot of work at the beginning but really wasn't if you have a good system. I wasn't a fan of his grading though, very harsh.. the hws and book report.
Terrible. Harsh grader. Memorizing some serious theoretical BS. Take another professor.
WORST. He doesn't put grades in so you don't know how you're doing in the class. He doesn't care about helping anyone. Students give suggestions to him and he denies them. He assigns entirely too much busy work and changes due dates constantly. I have never experienced a Professor like him before. Just incredibly awful. DON'T DO IT!
Very bad professor. Makes you do a lot more work than any other class at Baruch. He takes management wayyy too seriously. This class will kill your GPA. Even if you do well on the midterm and assignments, there are still hw & online discussion everyday. Also a book review. And lots of other work. Very poor teacher.
I took professor DeLuca for my online class. I personally liked his class. Just do your HW and quizzes online on time and participate in group discussion online. He gives 2 books review. Even if you fail on the first attempt, he will give you good feedback, just fix whatever he wants, and he will give you a higher grade. Great professor!!
He thinks that you only have his class. He gives a lot of HW. many papers to write and 2 books to read and write a review about them. I am an A student. But with him I am just hoping to pass because I can't drop the class. If you do care about your grades and GPA don't take him
I'm reading a lot of these MGT 3120 reviews and that's their loss for not taking some other instructor. DeLuca is much worse in 4420 because he tends to ramble a lot. Even though he provides insight with how compensation really works, he does not cover textbook material in class. He expects you to read the book but even he thinks the book is flawed
He is very nice in person but since it's an online class we had to talk to him through email or discussion board majority of the time. He was very rude in that online communcation. He gives too much homework and a tough grader. His gives 1 online quiz every week, one 250 words writing assignemnt each week and mandatory two discussion board particip
I feel that the professor does not make an effort to get to know concepts that he does not understand. He often does not give students enough time to fully explain themselves during lectures. He is knowledgable on the course material, but I felt I was graded based on the limitations of his understanding, and not always on my own ability.
Stay away from him. He is a nice guy, but he makes such an easy class so difficult. Test's are exactly like the quizzes. There is short answer he is a very tough grader. You have to give him the answer that he wants anything else would be marked wrong. Should be an easy A, he gave me an easy C. Stay away.
Should be an easy A, but the amount of work this guy assigns is ridiculous. Its not very hard but what makes it difficult is that he's looking for his answers (basically in his own words) in YOUR assignments. He's not terrible but if you're trying to find a GPA-booster I would try to get someone better. Possible to do well, impossible to get an A.
Get ready to read textbook through and through! You may resubmit your papers. Participation matters a lot
VERY GOOD, TAKE HIM. EXAMS ARE FAIR.
Basically, you have to read all books on your own and take the quizzes. He expected you to know everything. In-class lecture he rarely goes through what the chapters about, instead he talking something not even relevant to. waste so much time on guessing this and guessing that, which is very helpless. Ready to get C If you want to take his class.
Matthew Deluca was one of my favorite professor. He is very understanding and caring. You have to do your work as a college student. He is always willing to help when you ask him. I took two of his classes. Love professor Deluca.
