Donnelly is awesome. He cares about his students and will bend over backwards to help you out. He won't let you get a bad grade. He gives you a reason to want to go to class, even if it's just to look at him.

He's a really easy teacher. We watch movies about NYC in each class and just write a 2-3pg reflection paper on the movie and thats your grade even if you write a 1pg paper he will still except it and give you a good grade. His class is and easy A.

One of the few classes that I looked forward to. Great professor, helpful, engaging, interesting and attractive. You have to work for the A but you won't mind doing it.

Hes the best teacher. He gives an easy 2-3 page paper every week. We watch videos everyday in class based on the text book.

Prof D is easy. All I had to do was show up and hand in my weekly papers on time and I got an A. Class trip to see Rent was the best. Class material wasn't bad either. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed class since I thought it was going to be boring.

Very nice man.Gives 2-3 pg paper every single week on videos which you watch in class almost never teaches and doesn't believe in givin test. Just write facts from video and incorporate your opinion and u'll get an A. A 7 page paper do at the end on everything u learned just copy and paste from previous essays. Over all easy A. I really enjoyed the Donnelly's class. He is so cool and a real cutie too! LOL! Seriously I learned allot in Discover New York even though class was way too early for me in the AM. The class trip to RENT was the highlight of the semester, especially since we went at Christmas time and saw the Tree and all of Times Square. Donnelly gets an A from me

Not only easy, but nice. Its hard to find professors who care about students anymore. Everyone just wants the people do work and more work. He actually CONSIDERS us and gives us a midterm a week after midterm week to lessen stress. Mr.D is the man! (Every class is a documentary movie, except two where you watch west side story)

All we did was watching movies and have class discussions. A total of 10 2-3 pages reaction papers every week. Take home midterm and final, but they are essays so they are long. 7 to 12 page research paper. Overall very good professor for DNY. There are worse professors. Tries to get students involved. Highly recommended. A lot of work, but easy A

Donnelly is allright. He was cool and down to earth, but can be a stickler on the Reaction and Research Papers. I got an A, so I guess the class was good.

Cool guy who knows his stuff.Had his class during a semester where current headlines were the news of the day and where he discussed them frequently and how it related to us in class.Lectures were very insightful into the science of politics as well our as rights.This guy should be going back to work for public office officials instead of teaching in a boring old classroom.

Prof. Donnelly class was great! I never thought I would enjoy learning about NYC history so much. Watched a video everyday and 20 mins discussion afterwards. Pay attention so you can comment on something. Reaction paper due every week. 1 research paper, midterm, and final - these can be kind of long, but the grade is so worth this easy work!

Donnelly is a cool dude. Class was fun, no pressure and I learned so much about the history of NYC. Textbook is helpful but all material is covered in class adequately. Highly recommended.

Professor Donnelly is the best prof ever @ STJ. He taught DNY Fall 2009 and I totally love him. Textbook is thick and the chapter is long to read but trust me, you'll learn from it a lot! after the course your writing will be improved significantly. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great Professor ! Take him if you want to get a good grade. He has great clarification and is willing too answer all your questions. He doesn't give quizzes/test. As long as you attend class and do his work then you're bound to get an A.

Great professor! You just come into class, watch a documentary (exactly like the chapter reading from your txtbook), take notes and write an essay that is due at class meeting (which is every 2 weeks). No final, just a research paper. Overall recommend highly!

Professor Donnelly is the best. He really knows his stuff and I learned a lot about New York. For a 3 hour class, we just watched a video for 2 hours and then each person said something about it. The class was boring at times. The trips were fun. He gave 6 2-3 page reaction papers, 1 research paper and 1 presentation. Not too bad; I got an A.

I had fun in Mr. Donnelly's class. He is smart, engaging, laid back and really cares about us as people. FBL to Flushing was fun, as was the group presentation that followed it. Highly recommended for DNY.

Donnelly was really good for Discover NY. He is really passionate about NYC history, especially Al Smith. Class discussions were fun and he tries to get everyone involved. End of semester group project was also fun. I got an A based on project and research paper. Weekly Reaction Paper is required, but is easy. A lot of work, but is worth the A.

Fun class. We went on trips to Ellis Island in Blizzard in October, 5th Avenue, Empire State Building & Coney Island. I learned a lot about NYC. Donnelly is very nice and cares about us as people. Highly recommend.

Prof Donnelly is very helpful and really cares about his students. His hw's are based on txtbook readings, but you can just scan the txtbook. Some group trips, but he makes them fun and interesting. No midterm or final-- he uses the hws and participation as a basis for your grade. Just show you put in some effort and its a pretty easy A.

This teacher is more than you could ever ask for. Trust me you get like 4 simple projects and that makes your entire grade. Most of them are due before the last class. If you want an A easily while still having fun take him I would stake all the money in my wallet. He will not disappoint.

Donnelly is a a great teacher and a great guy in general. If you are lucky enough to choose your DNY professor, make sure you choose him. Class was always interesting, and grading was based on projects, which i normally hate, but they were not difficult and were actually pretty interesting. Great class for native New Yorkers.

Honestly those looking for a DNY TAKE HIM!!!! I tell everyone because he's so great. He understands that there's a lot going on and his work is minimal. If u fail his class you just have serious issues. He doesn't give any test or midterms which is def a plus. he is so sweet and passionate and def knows what he is talking about. LOVE TO TAKE AGAIN

No midterm/final. Requires everyone to participate in class discussions, but is pretty laid-back and accepting of everyone's opinions. Just do the journals and do-nows each week, the two projects, trips, and participate in class to get a great grade. He's very friendly and you're set for DNY if you get him.

Great professor and person. I had Professor Donnelly Fall 2016 and had a great experience. I learned a lot about New York City its history. Class trips were fun. Group project music video was very fun. No tests or quizzes but there will be some writing, and your writing skills will definitely improve. He is patient, fun and always respectful.

Simply stated, Professor Donnelly is a great teacher. If you want to learn a lot about New York City history and have lots of fun at the same time, then you must take Donnelly. Donnelly is the best professor I have ever had. He had us buy a $20 book about the history of NYC and once a week we would read a chapter (it was very short) and write a paragraph about it. There were no tests or quizzes. His field trips were so much fun and I actually enjoyed going on them. He's the professor that learns your name and cares.

DNY is a good time with Prof D. He is helpful and wont let you fail. Journals require some effort but are doable. A to Z Project and Group Video also easy. Usual Do Now to start class. You will need both textbooks though as you will use them for in-class group work.

Hands down one of my favorite professors. You have to put in the work to get your grades but once you do you're good. The dialectal journals just require you to be a little creative and write a good amount of sentences, but you can literally write whatever comes to your mind. If you have the chance, take him. He really cares about his students.

I had his class in the afternoon, but he allowed me to come to an early class that I couldn't schedule for because a lab technically ran 20 minutes into it. HON DNY is a participation heavy class with Mr. Donnelly. Group work every class followed by group presentation at end of class. Journal writing every week from readings in Historical Atlas of NYC and Robert Moses text is long but simple. Mr. Donnelly really cares and is very helpful. If you can get into his class, take him.

He's a great guy. This class is not hard at all. There are no tests or quizzes. However do NOT take advantage of him. absolutely no phones, sleeping, or doing other work in class. Put in the creative effort with the projects and assignments, hand them in on time, and you will get a 100 in this class guaranteed. 2 cheap books (one is a comic book).

Professor Donelly may come off as intimidating but he was my favorite professor ever. He is so kind, and respectful as long as you respect him and his time. He sees when you put in the effort and makes you interested in his lectures even if it is at 7:30am. I took his class last semester, and he still remembers my name and says hi to me on campus.

prof donnelly is amazing. he is very caring and respectful. there are only two or three projects and one midterm and one final. the midterm and final are based off the study guide questions basically copy and paste and you can use the study guides as answer keys/cheat sheets. the projects are very easy and he shows multiple examples. take him!!!

Best professor I've had so far and made me wanna come to school at the end of the day. Very very nice guy we went on trips as a class there are two textbooks but you can just Google the answers. Open book tests at least for me!

He's fun! Class mini projects after a lecture, you make a presentation and talk. Tests are off textbook, but it's a group test and the study guide has the qs. 2 projects: 10 min presentation slide and a longer slide for final, but both are easy. Weekly "reflection" but just talk through thoughts. Trips and community service, but it's school's reg.

This is about his FYS class. You will not stay for all 3 hours every class but because of that we have 4 mandatory field trips on Sundays & school breaks. Professor talks for the whole 3 hours with no stops. Participation is mandatory. NO ELECTRONICS!! Professor is very nice and understanding. Known to be the easiest FYS class. Minor annoyances.

Anyone who says this professor is anything short of amazing is lying to you. From the jump he is so genuinely caring and is so understanding of everyone's situation. He truly treats everyone with respect and kindness. FYS: The Global City class is fun lessons about NY, and has fun and creative projects as assignments. 1 million percent recommend

I honestly wouldn't recommend him for FYS. He's a cool person, very fun and ethusatic, but he assigns a lot of homework; its all extremely tedious. Its also a requirement for you to attend all field trips, which I believe is unresonable. Compared to other FYS professors, he's definitely a more strict one. His lectures are also very long

If you can take him! He's very caring and understanding. One of my favorite professors at St. John's. He wants you to do well, if you aren't able to submit an assignment on time just let him know and he'll give you an extension. Go on all the trips if you can.They are fun, informative, and an easy 100! 2 big projects and tests with study guides.

Prob will get an A aka A+ he's very nice & understanding. Rly enjoys what he does+pasisonate. Weekly essay(2 pgs), no test besides midterm & final. Gives pdf for textbooks to answer questions that u use for the midterm & final (open book). Literally no one can fail unless u don't show up & don't do the work. 3 mandatory presentation assignments.

I had this professor for my 1000H First-Year Seminar (FYS), and he did a great job explaining the concept of New York as a global city. If you want to enjoy studying FYS, I highly recommend taking his class without a doubt. He does assign a few journals and exams. However, he's very cooperative and supportive if you need help or clarification.

Such a nice guy. He really loves his job and cares deeply about his students. All of the work is very easy to complete. You have a few presentations, but all so easy. If you don't go on the field trips, he allows you to do an essay in place of that. Grades very fairly. Tests are open notes, and he provides you with the exact questions to study.

If you put in the effort, you will get a high A, if you slack off, you will not do well. He is the best professor at St. John's. Just go to the classes!! Nicest and most best professor!!
