Class is not a too easy but he is very helpful. Not too much work just one big project at the end but you can work in groups. Great teacher. Take him!
He is a very funny guy...down to earth. Not too easy but can be approached easily. Not a lot of work...occasional quiz, some reading. A lot of interesting movies. Overall...great teacher, def. take him. Paper at the end, lil difficult but still works with you.
He's a cool guy really. Really helpful and really knows what he's talking about. He's young so he can really relate to his students. Take him definitely.
GREAT TEACHER...very clear on what he wants and knowledgeable about the subject..NO TESTS!!Just 2 papers and 2 quizes (also papers)...TAKE HIM..
so cute.. he tries to be funny to keep peoples attention. you can tell he really enjoys the subject. One big paper-grades fairly. 2 quizzes..very easy. MIdterm wasn't too bad. half multiple choice, half essays. Tells you whats on them. VERY sweet man. I suggest this class.
Class sounds boring, but he makes class interesting. He is very helpful, and i recommend him a lot. Take him you would be enjoy this class.
he's a stellar guy. he used to skate for zorak in the 80's, thats how cool he is. papers, quizzes, and tests are all easy. a B isnt hard at all.
i was a little disappointed in this class, it is too specific;however, he was very knowledgeable.for some reason didnt really keep my attention.adorable, but that didnt make up for it.tests and papers were easy, overall not a difficult class.lots and lots of tv watching, be prepared.some reading
Overall a great guy, very knowledgable. The class is fairly hard but he is very willing to help you. Offers the chance for extra credit. Class was much more detailed and specific then I thought but if you have a problem/question just talk to him and you will do just fine!
good guy. easy multiple choice/sort answer exams. very clear and makes class interesting. would love to take another one of his classes
Good teacher who cares a lot about the subject and for his students. Wants everyone to do well and gives some extra credit assignments. Tells you what to know for his midterm and finals. Study and read the books and you will do fine.
Nice guy-explains things well and we watch videos. 1 paper, no presentations, 3 tests and some quizzes
he is the man!! so funny and we can end up talking about very random topics. 5 quiz's, midterm, final, extra credit given, and he doesn't believe in dropping the class 10 wks He Will come after you if you do...i highly reccommend him to anyone.can talk truck driver lingo!this man is a pure genius!
great guy! he wont let you fail. if at all possible take him!no attendence policy. and he gives a ton of extra credit opportunities!!
He was probably one of the best teachers i had my first semester. If you want to take a class that you have to work at failing, then take one of his classes. He's a great teacher.
Great Teacher, grading system is great, lots of extra credit....he let me do mine on hockey, makes class fun a and will no let you fail, just make sure read the two books and that is really all he wants
SOO much reading and some not very interesting. Easy quizzes, essays and tests, extra credit is a plus. He doesn't take attendance, however, without class, you can get lost. A lot of work for a gen. ed. but fairly relative and good to know. He knows his stuff!
My favorite professor ever. He was very nice and helpful. He really cared about the subject and his students. He made a really boring subject somewhat interesting. I Definitely suggest him.
Teaches a very mentally stimulating class. Cares a lot about the subject matter, and about students learning the material. A word of caution, he won't put up with a lot of BS, so don't even try. The only negative I have to say about the class is the sheer amount reading you are assigned. Otherwise, he's one of the best professors I've had.
Amazing person and wonderul professor...very easy to talk to and cooperate with when necessary, its like talking to a friend....refuses to let you fail or give up on the course...made the material more interesting to learn. Def take him!
Awsome teacher, shows great intiative in the coursr. Brings in alot of personal expirience. The class is very easy, tests are easy, and easy material to deal with
Class is extremely easy, great teacher, very knowledgeable about coursework.Tests are easy as long as u read text and take notes.Start reading the novels early so it wont bog u down from ur other work.Textbook not that helpful, coulda done w/o it
I highly recommend this class. Alot of reading but otherwise great. Only tests, no papers and he's real funny.
He's great....BUT he is a little cocky and thinks hes the****. He makes himself feel good by putting people down. Overally good though
Awesome teacher, fair and kind. Very into his subject, and makes it easy to understand and fun to learn.
I took one class with this professor and enjoyed it so much I decided to change my major. He's very helpful and passionate about anthropology. He is willing to help you as long as you put forth the effort. I highly recommend this professor. Oh and he's hot!
There is a lot of reading, but the class is interesting and the prof is cocky, but funny. He makes class interesting. I definately recommend if you dont mind doing some reading.
Dr.Durrington made a boring class into a very exciting one. He is passionate about the subject matter and about informing his students and converting them to the world of Anthropology. Kind of crazy, goes on a lot of tangeons, and cusses like a sailor. He is so awesome.
Durington was one of my favorite professors. I have taken several classes with him and I always leave his class with a new interest. He is able to turn any topic into something interesting. He is extremely helpful, just talk to him. I love his enthusiasm for anthropology he makes me feel so motivated. Another great professor!
Easy A/B. don't be afraid of reading, its college people! He points out that you don't even have to read all the time, just skim for important summaries. Makes lectures interesting and funny everyday. This is the one gened I loved going to every class. Must take!
Cool class I guess, when you're a SOAN major all the classes just repeat themselves... but it's interesting, nothing I didn't know already though except for the different tribes we watched. But hey what did I expect? Its a 200 level class! Great CLASS takeeeeeeeeee it!
Very Passionate. Helps his students pass his class coz he cares. Gives extra credit. He's very knowlegeable. Made the class interesting. But on the other side, alot of reading. But i do recommend him.
Makes a very dry sunject interesting. A lot of reading which is required to do well. Goes over everything on the test actually answers essay questions if you really listen. short quiz, two tests, final and one 5 paper writing assignment. Study copy down slides verbatem and you'll do great.
I love the teacher, hate the amount of reading. He says he had "cut it in half" I pray for the students that had to read his full amount! I wrote about 100pg for his class with journals, mid term, term papers and final. but i really like him and the class, come on he was a DJ lol
Lots of reading but if you do the work it is easy to get an A. You write 2 10-12 page papers and have a take home final but if you do the work you can get an A you just have to do the work. He makes any subject interesting he is by far the best professor I've had at Towson.
TAKE HIM! He is passionate about the subject, knows what he's talking about, and makes it interesting no matter what! He'll make you seriously want to be an ANTH major sometimes. Read, study for tests, listen in class, and you'll do fine. Don't waste time taking notes verbatim - LISTEN. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had! Take him!
Good teacher, a lot of information, make sure you study and read. He's funny too so you stay entertained.
Dr. D is by far the best professor I have had thus far @ TU. I had no idea about this subject yet after takin this class I changed my major to anthro. You'll take 1 warm up exam, 2 other exams, 1 final, and you'll write 1 4-6 page paper. There are also many extra credit opportunities. Take him if you can.
His passion is contagious, best professor I have ever had while being at Towson. Not too many dull moments in his class and you will actually learn something.
I love this guy! He is awesome, take all his classes!
If you hate reading, than don't take this class. Pretty cool guy, but this class should not be a 200 level.
This man is the most amazing professor I've ever taken at Towson. Yes, there is a lot of reading, and there is only one warm up quiz, a midterm and a final, but Dr. Durington gives you a MILLION opportunities for extra credit and help and clarification. You'd be an idiot to fail this class.
Durington is the best!!! He is hilarious & really cares about his students & what he teaches. You dont REALLY have to read the text IF you write down all the notes from the slides (Hint: Type up all of the text & lecture keywords & study this & youll do fine!) A lot of work for a GenEd but worth it! Warm up exam, midterm, final, 2 books & 1 paper.
Amazing professor! Never dull. He's interesting (and keeps you interested in the topics) and he really knows his stuff. Definitely worth taking any of his classes (this one was his Drugs class)- but be prepared for a large workload, which can be difficult if you are taking a full load of classes: 3 books, 3-10pg papers, reading questions galore.
Amazing professor! Great class, take him if you have to take anthro. 1 warm up exam, mid-term, final, 2 novels with reading questions, and extra credit galore! I loved his class he was never dull!
best professor at towson, hands down! he has a great sense of humor, friendly and always willing to help you out. he makes anthropology very interesting! attendance isn't mandatory but who wouldn't want to miss his class? it's awesome! plus he's a UT austin alum! GO LONGHORNS!
One of the best profs I've ever had at Towson. He is hilarious and engaging. I honestly dont mind going to his class. I totally have a crush on Durington.
Great sense of humor! He will have you laughing during class even in boring lectures. Willing to help you when having trouble and will not let you fail. Tons of extra credit. Great teacher for a topic I'm not really interested in. Take Durington!
funny, makes you WANT to go to class, completely passionate about what he is teaching and its contagious. do the readings. all of them. going to class is pointless cos you wont be able to process the points hes trying to make. one midterm and final that are pretty difficult but he'll help you to any extent. take him, definitely.
He's a nice enough guy, but for a GenEd this class is insane. So much reading, and although class isn't mandatory you are screwed if you don't go. Only two exams and they are both really hard. Class material is interesting, but there is a lot of it. Only take this class if you're will to work hard for a GenEd!!
This class is really interesting but it is SO hard for a GenEd. He is a nice guy and is really passionate about what he does but he makes the class a lot harder than it really is. You have to study for the tests, there are only two of them (plus a quiz). And read the books!! They are a LARGE part of the final exam. Study hard!
Dr. D is a really funny and cool guy. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and teaches it well and keeps it entertaining. However, the class was very hard for a gen ed like others have said, the final was killer. make sure you go to class and take notes and read read read! He offers a lot of extra credit though which helps
class is hard for a gen ed but hes really nice and makes it interesting. just a TON of reading, almost as much as my hard labs. you can do well as long as you come to class, takes notes, and READ! offers a ton of EC and is willing to answer any qestions without making you feel stupid. extrmemely dedicated to what he teaches
Dr. Durington is awesome. He is pretty funny and he really loves what he teaches. It is awesome that he does so much field work and shows the class his informants. Read the book, because class can be a little confusing if you don't know anything about Anthropology. Kind of difficult since your grade is based on exams. Good GenEd.
He's a pretty funny, guy. Down to earth and up-to-date. Appealing to younger audiences. I like him. He expects a lot out of his students though...and uses a lot of big words, all the time! He hates texting. There's one quiz, a midterm, a project, and a final. Not too bad. MUST DO THE READINGS OR YOU WILL FAIL. Print out the lecture slides first.
Great profegsor! Challenging but he really works with you. Reading is a MUST. Otherwise hes really cool and will explain things very well. Uses big words that I couldnt keep up with. Hates texting but makes class very interesting.
I've gone to Towson for 5 semesters and he is by far the coolest professor I've had. There's a 10 question warm-up exam, a midterm, and a final. you have to study your lecture notes and you have to read! there's one paper. 5-7 pages based on 2 essays, one is his. it's a bit of work, but it's worth it if you're genuinely interested in anthropology.
The best prof I've had at Towson. Tough class but he really wants you to do well. Don't hesitate to ask him to explain something. DEFINITELY do the reading! Try not to miss classes, you'll be lost. Great guy, funny, passionate, knowledgeable, and on top of current events so keep up on the news if you wanna impress him. Plus, he's pretty hot ;P
Great Professor, makes you think outside of the box and can really relate to students. 1 warmup exam, midterm, final, and 1 5 pg paper. read the two books and the readings!!! overall, one of my favorite professors who shows he cares in his students succeeding and learning about the world around them, and he is pretty cute too :)
Awesome and engaging professor. I took intro with him my freshman year and have taken a class with him every semester since (changed my major to ANTH). He gives you all the opportunities you're willing to seek out. Wish I could major in "Durington", there's a cult following of Anth majors who agree. All the girls seem to have a crush on him.
LOVE him. My favorite professor by far. His classes are not easy, but are definitely worth taking. His intro class literally changed my life. He's extremely helpful and can break down the most complicated theories like they're nothing. He's really funny, totally chill, and SUPER cute. If I could, I would major in Durington.
Course was difficult to understand. Takes a lot of thinking outside of the box. Professor seems to have hot and cold moments. He has a high interest in the subject matter (it is his world!) but seems to take offense at some things and hold them against you. Overall, good professor...hard class. DON'T MISS A CLASS!!!!
An absolutely excellent professor! His classes are not easy, but as long as you attend class, do the readings and seek his help, you will succeed. This class was life changing and he is absolutely passionate about his field. Don't miss the chance to take him!
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT TOWSON IN MY 3 YEARS HERE. Dr. Durington is awesome. Funny, keeps class engaged, extremely knowledgable. I would recommend him to anyone it is truly a pleasure taking a course with him this semester!!
Agree with other he is a fun professor & down to earth. You will learn a lot about South Africa; it's his WORLD lol. However, the class is very challenging, especially for an intro class. I found myself amongst other lost at some point in the class. READ!!! &start preparing for the "celebration of knowledge" aka final after ASAP its half your grade
Dr. Durington is definitely a cool professor, extremely knowledgeable about South Africa. This class is challending! But it's so interesting you won't even notice. You MUST read! You MUST study. but there's so much extra credit you can bomb here and there. He makes it pretty easy. He wants you to get an A. If you fail it's your own fault, take him!
Durington is probably the coolest professor I have had at Towson. He's extremely passionate and knowledgable about what he teaches. Note taking in class is somewhat hard because he breezes through power point slides (which he posts online along with the essay question for final and midterm). He's really chill & funny, just READ.
Two words: South Africa... Wait, another word: Stressful. He is very passionate. Class is so interesting; I loved going. The reading is quite undesirable. So. Much. Reading. Way too much information to be a GenEd. Time consuming. Hard tests. Post all work to blog. Lots of extra credit. My advice: Interesting but don't take if it's not your major.
Absolutely amazing course and teacher but I almost died trying to pass it. Going to class, taking notes and reading are mandatory. If you put in the work to pass, he will be willing to help you reach this goal. Even if this is not for your major, take it because it's interesting. Just be willing to put in the work and be open minded.
Class is mandatory. Final is cumulative 40% of your grade. Class was so boring I could barely stay awake. He's a cool guy but his class is just too much. Power points are online. Reading is mandatory. You read two lengthy books that are on your final. Avoid this class unless you like endless reading and sitting through boredom.
I took this class as a first semester freshman, so the workload was extremely over wellming. Even though he posts every powerpoint online, the vocab is so advanced I had no idea what I was actually reading. He was a cool teacher but I could not get interested in the class. Take it if you are interested in South Africa and ONLY South Africa
He is the reason I became an ANTH major after I took 207. He gives you a lot of work because anything you've ever known about everything has more to it than you realized and it's important to acknowledge that. He wouldn't condescend to think you don't understand these things, but he forces you to rethink them. Durs is the man.
Great professor. I wasn't really sure what to think of anthropology before his class but it was very interesting. I can truly say I learned a lot from his class. He keeps you engaged in conversation and workload isn't bad (midterm, final, and one quiz).
I went to Dr. D 7 times for help with the class and he was unwilling to help. He said I didn't talk enough in class. I was struggling and cannot believe a prof would be unwilling to assist a student. He only likes you if you're an ANTH major, not CRMJ. I wish I never took this class. I can truthfully say I didn't learn one thing this semester.
Funny guy, very personable. But the class was very rushed at the end- had to read 3 books and write 3 large papers. Walked away with a good understanding of Anthropology. But he was hard to understand and wasn't good at clarifying. Often when I asked questions I would end up more confused than before. But he is a really great person!
Dr. Durington is the best professor I have ever had! He is hilarious. This time goes by so fast every class because his lectures are so interesting and entertaining. You'd be lucky to have him as a professor. Anthropology is really not my thing, but he makes it amazing. Very helpful if you ask him for helpadvice. FUN extra credit opportunities
TAKE THIS CLASS! Hands down the most interesting and inspiring course. Dr. Durington truly has a passion for what he teaches and it is shown every day upon walking into class. I was able to apply his teachings to my other courses in various ways. The work, readings, and lectures are worth it. Study and do the homework. Most importantly, GO TO CLASS
His lectures are so confusing. Get ready for words you never thought were words. He's a funny teacher but get ready for a lot of boring readings and and boring lectures. His tests are really hard as well. Make sure to study
Favorite professor this semester! So funny and inspiring. Wants you to learn so he challenges you but its worth it because the class is so interesting. He does expect you to work hard and apply yourself. Absolutely would take again and would suggest taking him to anyone - even if you're not interested in anthropology!
Honestly he is the best professor I have ever had and I recomend him to anyone. It's not a show up and pass class that's not what he's there for, you will have to work for it but it is completely with out a doubt worth it. It is the only class I look forward to going to, just wish I had it more then twice a week.
He's an amazing teacher. He's passionate so you have to work for your grade. His tests are multiple choice. Read and take notes and study. You'll be fine it's only hard if you slack off. He's funny and has a great personality.
Durrington is an awesome guy. This class gave me a complete different perspective, and his lectures, although hard to understand sometimes, kept me interested. He's really funny and as long as you pay attention and study the tests are easy. This is one class I didn't dread going to because he keeps you awake with his humor and keeps you thinking.
Dr. Durington is the professor you take when you want to change the world. He provides real life experience in what anthropology looks like and wants his students to make a difference. He speaks from experience and is always willing to go the extra mile for you when you ask. It is hard to get in touch with him because he's such a busy guy.
Durington is the BEST. he's funny so class goes by fast. His tests are super easy if u study. Up to 30 points extra credit available. He cares a lot about anthro and you will too by end of semester. You do have to read few books. But honestly, it wasn't bad AT ALL. If i could take another class with him, i definitely would.
Durington is a great, funny guy. There is a lot of work for this class. There are reading questions due almost every class. There are four 10+ page papers. He is willing to help his students pass. It is very important to read. Only take this class if you are prepared to put in work. You will learn a lot from him and his class.
Amazing teacher. Very dedicated. He really cares about his students and is hilarious. Be prepared to read a lot, you must work for your grade. He is hilarious, there is not one class that I don't laugh in. Attendance is required, if you miss three classes your grade will be lowered. I would take this class again without question.
Even in intro level or survey courses, Durington is able to engage any level student into the discussion. Be prepared to read, but you will learn a lot from his lecture style and enjoy his persona. Work for your grade but definitely pays off with how much you learn from him.
worst ever! do not take this course with other extensive courses. You will be required to read like crazy so believe me getting this and three other extensive courses completed is difficult. be prepared and make sure it is exactly what you want this class caused so much anxiety and stress, i never had a class like this
This is the 4th class I've taken with this professor and it's pretty clear that if you don't challenge yourself and the way you see the world, you won't get far. Fantastic professor and academic, as well as overall genuine and caring person. If you think outside the box and do your work, you'll do well.
Dr. Durington's lectures don't even feel like lectures. He includes so many personal stories that it feels like your friend is telling you a story. He doesn't post grades so I'm not sure what my current grade in the class is but I'm sure it's a high B. He gives out various extra credit options. You will learn SO much if you take this class.
If you have opposing views, it will be difficult to sit through his lectures. They are very one-sided, although he says they are not.
This class felt like the second part of a really interesting lecture series with a first part that I missed. There are a lot of theorist names casually thrown about in discussion that only some kids in the class had been exposed to. That said, Durington's lectures will change the way you see things. Stay on top of the writing; hard but fair grading
You won't find a more qualified professor for this subject! He knows a lot about lecture material and is very nice and funny as long as you show up on time and he HATES people who use their phones during class, he will call you out to put it away. His tests can be hard, just make sure you read everything assigned and know the vocabulary.
The grade is heavily depends on Midterm(30%) and final (50% of your grade). Other than that, this class was awesome. He knows all of his stuff, wants us to pass, and passionate about teaching. He also curved our midterm.
An AMAZING professor, who really knows what he is talking about. He is very personable by relating things to his family and personal life/experiences which makes the class very interesting. He is super funny as well. You will definitely learn something in this class. Mostly based on the final and midterm.
He's hella cool. I wish I didnt have to take this class for a GRADE because the subject is confusing. We had to read 2 books and the midterm was 50% of your grade. He's hilarious , but anthropology just isn't my subject.
Durington is cool and engaging but this class is really tough. He grades pretty harshly if you're not good at writing but gives a chance to revise. He also has a tendency to assign a lot of work. We had 6 different assignments (some were made up and unnecessary) due on the last day of class as if other classes, having a job, or even a life exists.
Dr. Durington does an amazing job of keeping the lectures engaging and exciting. His lectures are crucial to understanding reading materials assigned. If you keep up with your reading and show up to class, you will likely receive a decent grade.
Dr. D is a great professor who makes lectures interesting and entertaining. He can definitely add some comedic relief into otherwise tense conversations. Most of the work is reading, if you do that you should be fine. One downside, however, is that hes not big on laptops, so be prepared to write notes with pen and paper instead.
Super funny guy. Gives amazing lectures, just keep up with the readings and you should get an A or B
This class will OPEN YOUR EYES. He explains basically how the world works. He's always just an email away and WANTS you to succeed. He's extremely knowledgable in his subjects. Definitely take him for anth401. He's also flexible with deadlines and doesn't give much homework. READ THE ASSIGNED BOOKS AND TAKE NOTES THOUGH.
i took dr. d for a core, and though his lectures were interesting, i kinda felt like his work load was too much. overall, it was an easy course. hes kinda all over the place in terms of due dates for assignments. no exams throughout the semester, just one final paper due at the end.
This class was very unorganized. He made us do work that was not even graded at the end of the semester, so I wasted time on a 10pg paper and 4 other assignments at the end for it to not count. Makes you read many books that are boring IMO. Hes very one side opinionated and will target you if on your phones. Boring lectures. do not take!
If youre engaged in class and show up, hes really willing to help you out. Hes also a really interesting lecturer. He was really down to earth and his class was honestly one of my favorite courses in all of uni.
Dr. Durington is honestly a great professor. The lectures can be long and tiring, but he is hilarious and does care for his students. There is a module like assignment due every weekend but they are easy to complete. There are readings, but the class doesn't rely on them too much. There are a couple of film reviews and the exams are super easy!!
He is honestly so horrible, possibly the worst class I took at Towson. Incredibly disorganized, boring, and didn't even bother to grade our 10 page final- just randomly assigned A- to almost everyone with no feedback. Had to ask several times for final projects to be graded/ receive feedback even weeks after the semester was over.
This was my favorite class of the semester. Professor Durington is so engaging and his lectures were very interesting. The assignments were easy to accomplish and the course load was very easy to manage. I would definitely take another class with him!
Extremely disorganized. Hardly ever gave guidance on assignments and provided almost no feedback once assignments were graded (he emailed us our grades with a one sentence summary about what he thought of our writing). If you want a professor who is invested in helping you succeed do NOT take his classes.
Prof. Durington is a top-tier educator who is passionate about many different topics. He's hilarious and you'll always walk out of class having learned something. He can get tangential in his lectures, but they lead to engaging class discussions every time.
He is one of my favorite teachers so far. He makes a serious class funny, while still opening your mind to a whole different way of thinking. Not many assignments, discussion based class
Prof. Durington is one of the best professors I've had at Towson. His lectures are super interesting and he definitely knows what he's talking about. He never assigns homework but expects you to read all of the text he provides in class. Want to pass the class? Read the books he provides, take notes, and attend his lectures.
Dr. Durington is an amazing guy. He will always engage the classroom with his lectures, and honestly to be able to pass his class you do need to go to every single one of his lectures. His exams will always be based off a lecture, ethnography or slideshow. His downfall though is that he'll only give you like 4 assignments in the entire semester.
Very confused because he has very positive reviews but DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF! He is extremely disorganized and does very little to help his students succeed. Does not provide feedback even when asked multiple times. He even told us not to bother with student evals because "he has a PhD why would he listen to 18-year-olds."
Nice guy, and he manages to make a pretty boring topic interesting. Graded on 4 tests and a paper, each 20% of your grade, so there is not much room for error in the class. Decent amount of reading that isn't always discussed thoroughly in class but is frequently one or two of the exam questions
Professor Durington's ANTH207 class is a real gem. His lectures are super engaging, and staying on top of the readings is key to doing well. The workload is manageable, and unstuck study proved to be a helpful tool for exam prep. Definitely a class worth taking!
Going into this, I had 0 interest. Durington made the class enjoyable and easy to understand by doing something most teachers don't, he gave us the info needed to succeed. Great guy, treats us like college students, not 2nd graders which is awesome to see.
Professor Durington was such an amazing professor, he made every enjoyable, i did not have any interests in anthropology but he made every class fun which made it easy for me to attend to his classes! Definitely take him, as long as you pay attention in class and do the work you will be good
