His test are really hard! 2 Short essay and 1 long essay. Main paper is also very difficult. His requirements are in line with a masters paper. Beware!!
If you show up to class and listen, easy A's for his 1040/1050 class. He's very nice and knows what he is talking about, he makes government interesting.
He is a very nice teacher. His tests are not hard. They are all multiple choice and he gives you power points from the internet so you rarely have to write down anything. He is pretty good looking too! Just go to class and listen and you will get an A.
What a great professor! I'm not even interested in politics, but he got/kept me interested. We watched the Simpsons episodes to explain politics. Waiting for him to teach 1040 so I can take that one. His attendance policy rocks, recommended but not required; thank you! Someone who finally understands that attendance should not be part of college.
I took him for the Presidency. His exams were difficult and his paper was tedious, but he was pretty good overall. Kinda new to the poli sci realm so he isn't jaded yet - always a plus. I made an A without trying very hard but I'd suggest taking your time on the paper.. He can tell if it's written the night before for most people. Hot with a beard.
This has been, by far, the best government class I've ever had. He is incredibly nice and makes government really fun. He incorporates Simpsons and South Park into his lectures and lets every student voice their opinion if they want to. Hes incredibly neutral and a really awesome professor. Tests are easy. This is an easy A! GREAT class!
Easy presidency class. Attendance not required - but it helps if he knows who you are. notes are straight powerpoint; book not needed. essay tests, but you'll do fine if you know how to properly insert buzzwords and turn bullet point notes into fluffed up essays. Surprisingly easy grading on the paper. Recommended.
If you actually show up to class, you will get a great grade with no problem at all.
Awesome professor. If you actually show up for class, you will get so much out of it.
he is so boring and i hate to say that because he is such a cute guy who is really nice. attendance is not required and i can't bare to go because of that. tests are pretty hard but notes are on his website. all he does is read off of his powerpoint and i just really can't learn that way
One of the best professors I have ever had!! I thoroughly enjoyed this class, and have acquired a new interest in politics because of it. I wish I could have taken more classes with him!! He is so sweet and cute!!! I made a high A in this class without much effort!
Best Teacher ever. I loved him. Go for him and make an easy "A".
He is a great professor, in terms of knowing what he is talking about. But his class is kind of boring, I had a hard time keeping my attention on his lecture. His tests weren't too bad, if you memorize all his notes, you'll make an 'A'.
Had him for a Maymester, and his class was pretty easy. He gave reviews before the exams, and it was pretty much straight from the lectures. You'll do well, so long as you go to class most of the time.
He lectures and has slide shows, which go up online, with everything you need to know for the test. Homework is fairly easy, read the workbook sections and it takes about 30min. do the homework and study from his powerpoint b/c hmwrk is 25% and there are 3 tests (25%each). HE ALSO SHOWS CLIPS FROM THE SIMPSONS. that should help you make the choice.
He's really good if you're looking for an easy PSCI 1040 class, tests come from notes, and he doesn't require attendance, but it really helps. I didn't attend much before the first exam and made a 54, the second one I only missed one class and made a 74, so you decide. He's not bad to look at either, definitely the hottest prof I have atm.
Hard class! This guy is very interesting, and easy to listen to, but his tests are on a completely different level. His TA's make the tests, so the notes you take and the slideshows dont help one bit. He is very passionate about this subject and perhaps a little too nice, which is why he wont tell his TA's to stick to what he actually teaches.
my friend and I decided he is a cross between Anderson Cooper and Bill Nye the Science Guy. Take his class! He is not difficult with his tests - he asks questions that are broad and relevant to the material! whoa! it's hard to find a teacher that is so rational on the tests.
The BEST Prof. On campus hands down. He knows the subject and he enjoys teaching it. GO to class and youll get atleast a B. Great for a 8 AM Class dont pass on this guy, Its an easy fun class to take when hes the teacher
This guy is a breath of fresh air. He's funny, he makes poli sci interesting, he shows simpsons clips and he teaches from the his power points that are online. He is great, I wouldn't take anyone else for 1040 and 1050. He is awesome!
EVERYONE in this class did horrible. People just give good ratings because he's nice, but if you want an A, don't take it!His lectures are so boring and the test are a bunch of crap.People made 40's on his tests!Do not recommend!
Great professor. You have to go to class and listen to lectures to do well on tests. His research paper is not a joke, you have to follow the directions to make a decent grade. He knows a lot about what he is teaching so talking from your butt won't fly..
If you are looking for a psuedo-intellectual; he's your man. This professor is woefully ignorant of any subject matter that does not fall into his very narrow range of "specialty". I would suggest you stay as far away as possible and get into a class in which you will actually learn something.
Very good teacher. Funny. Attendance not mandatory but going to class helps. He posts all his power points online. The only homeowrk you have are 6 workbooks. Very easy teacher.
This class was amazing. Mainly lectures that are posted on the web and the test are kind of hard mainly recieving a C for them. But overall I landed a A!!!! He's a smart man who keeps you entertained! No sleeping in his class! I'm taking him this semester for 1050! Think Government is hard coming from highschool This class will change that!!! JAJAJ
His class is easy. attendance not mandatory, but if you go and have no interest in politics what-so-ever, (like me), he will change that. I learned so much by taking his class, he's very enthusiastic about what he teaches but you gotta study for the tests! take him!
:) he is very sweet and his class isn't hard but his tests you have to actually study for do not read the power points the day before! Do it a week ahead! he actually knows his material and doesn't make the class boring!
I really enjoyed his class. He is a very sweet man who knows what he is talking about. Extra Credit opportunities. MUST MUST MUST study for the test
He seems very passionate for his subject and really enjoys it. He moves around the room a lot so you kind of get dizzy. Class not mandatory so I didn't go to class a lot unless it was exam days or extra credit days, but I still got a B. Not hard to pass.
I hardly ever went to class, but got above 100 average just by studying powerpoints a night before. When I did attend, though, he was a hoot; had his class not been at 8:00AM, I definitely would have gone more just to hear him lecture.
Don't buy the text book! Everything is from slides and lecture. You don't have to go to class, but I suggest it - he's hilarious! Plus you get bonus points sometimes ;) He's interactive and answers questions you have in class. I went to office hours for sudy advice and my test score went from a C+ to an A-. I have no previous knowledge and got an A
EXCELLENT! Impossile to not make an A!
Simple class. He is a good professor and loves to lecture. I had his class for the may term and the Exams are exactly like the slides uploaded on blackboard. I went to every class but it was really unnecessary. GPA booster if you can study the notes very well
Great class. Fun guy. He keeps it interesting and even caused me to attend most of these 8AMs (and this is saying something folks). He posts powerpoints on blackboard, but if you're not good at learning off of those come to class for the lecture. His lecture can help you remember whats what.
Easy class, easy test, no attendance policy. three tests all multiple choice plus about eight easy online assignments.
This guy is funny, even at 8 a.m. when most people aren't in the mood. Easy workbook assignments, exams are the powerpoints. Powerpoints are the exams. Don't have to show up for class, but you miss out.
He's cute, funny and amiable but his lectures are a wee bit boring because he rarely engaged the class in discussions. Most of the material is in the power point slides and he doesn't take attendance but I still recommend attending class. His tests are tricky. The wording can be ambiguous. Don't bother buying the textbook.
Yeah, this guy's tests seemed like they were from another class. The homework was easy and all, but the tests were stupid. The textbook was never used. This was for the may 3-week term, so I don't know how that compares to his usual class.
He is a great professor who really knows his content. He constantly relates it to current issues and in an interesting way on top of a lot of Simpsons connections and references. The textbook is useless, but the workbook is a must. HW isn't too frequent or even hard when present, so I can't complain. You will not regret taking this class.
It's your typical college political science class. Liberal, opinionated, and not enjoyable. Tests were a slight challenge. Little homework. Book not used. Attendance optional. His jokes are only funny if you agree with his views. Not good but better than the other psci classes at unt. Still recommended.
Loved this class! It was at eight in the morning but I never missed a class because his lectures were so great. Also I liked to stare at him ;) He's really helpful, as is his SI. The tests are basically a regurgitation of his slideshows. The online workbooks were pretty easy as well. Definitely recommend taking him!
He tries to get the class intrigued. His tests aren't bad and you do not need the book. I would take him for the easiness level, but if you dont like political science be prepared to want to fall asleep in the class.
Easiest political science class you will find on campus. If you actually go to class (completely optional) he is a great lecturer and really funny. You don't have to buy the book and there are only 6 online assignments. Tests are pretty easy but do include some questions from lecture. Still an easy A. Take him!
You do not have like any work in this class which is really great. You have workbooks online that are really easy and straight from the reading. You do not have to buy a textbook so thats awesome. The tests are kind of hard though. I have gotten a straight 80 on all of my tests and so i ended up with a B+ in his class. Its pretty boring.
Good Teacher test kind of difficult just study the power points
His media class is actually very interesting if you try to participate. He's fair but talking to him can help your grade. Discussion based class. Books definitely help but I got a B without having one of them. Tests aren't easy but if you study, you should do fine. TAKE NOTES & attend class. 5 things determine your grade so don't blow off anything.
Test are nothing like study guides. Classes are pointless to attend and not helpful when asking him questions. Difficult course if not interested in POLI SCI!
The lectures are entertaining and managed to always keep my interest. I would definitely take this class again. The only work I had was the workbook and to occasionally study for one of the three tests we had.
Great professor! You know he loves what he does based on the enthusiasm in his lectures (even the 8AM ones!). Tests are difficult if you don't study, attendance is not mandatory, but it is worth going to his class if you want good grades. I'd take another class with him!
He is a wonderful professor! Don't rely on memorizing, focus on understanding it and you'll ace the exams easy. Keep up with the workbook assignments; they help. His lectures are interesting even if you're like me and hate government. Take notes on lecture; slides don't spell out an A for you. He gives you every opportunity to pass!
He is an excellent professor and I've really enjoyed taking his class. His lectures are in depth and detailed. He seems enthused to teach. If you study and retain the information from the lectures, it'll be very easy to do well in the course. He explains the material very well and his lectures are often entertaining. I would highly recommend him.
Easy Course great teacher. Just study the power points slides and read the textbook a little and get ready for an A. Easiest class i have taken so far
Great professor, took him twice.
He made being in class at 8AM MWF worth it. Class is very easy if you do the homework and listen during his lectures. Lectures aren't boring. He makes things relevant, has hilarious asides & shows the Simpsons. You will sometimes have extra credit for showing up to class. Tests are MC and easy. This is an easy A if you pay attention.
Eshbaugh was one of my favorite professors at UNT. His lectures are interesting and fun, he is incredibly nice, you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching, and he made me excited to learn. Attendance is optional, he uploads all slides online, and as long as you study them before the test you can make an A. I recommend him to everyone!
He is very passionate about Political Science though he is very boring and has a monotonous voice, which makes you want to sleep or skip the class more than anything.
This is a professor that enjoys is job. He's very helpful if you show him that you care about your grade. The tests are the slideshows and the workbook so if you pay attention to those you will definitely pass.
You won't find a better professor in Political Science at UNT.
Entertaining! I took a Maymester course, and he made all attempts to keep it interesting with humor and anecdotes. He also paces across the room while lecturing which can help keep the blood flowing in your neck muscles. Tests were based primarily on lecture notes and a little off of the online workbook. I never opened the text.
I took the class during a maymester so it was extremely fast paced and only consisted of a few tests and quizzes. If you show up and take good notes you should do fine on tests. He is very clear and doesn't give too much irrelevant information. Would take him again.
This is my first class with Dr. Eshbaugh-Soha and I loved it. He is very passionate about the presidents and how the presidency works which is why his lectures are so interesting. You definitely have to pay attention and take notes, so going to class is highly recommended. The book was not necessary, but is a good supplement. 100% recommend.
I really enjoyed Dr. Eshbaugh-Soha as a professor. He was a great lecturer and made the class interesting. However, his failing to use blackboard to post grades, which was his own personal decision (Something I don't understand at all) made it extremely difficult to know what my grades were throughout the course. I still don't my final exam grade.
Class is not mandatory. Do the review and tests should be easy. Some test questions come from the workbook, so pay attention to that.
Honestly, you never have to go to class. If you do go, you will at least mildly enjoy lecture. I would imagine if you were the polisci type, you would really enjoy the material in general; for the rest of us, Soha does his best with this required classes. TLDR: I do not like polisci. I like this professor, and he manages to make this class fun.
Attendance isn't mandatory but you will definitely want to attend class to pass the tests. He puts examples he uses and stuff from his lectures in his tests. I'm a polisci student that skipped 80% of the time thinking it was an Easy A and failed the first two quizzes. He is a great professor that is hilarious so take his class! + he's hot!
The worst thing I can manage to say about Professor Eshbaugh-Soha is that he think his jokes are funny. Seriously, he is really passionate about his area and he always brings a good energy to the classroom. The class was so easy--I basically just read through the slides before each exam and got an A every time. He shows a lot of Simpson's clips.
He honestly was my favorite professor iv'e ever had. He's extremely engaging and brings ridiculous energy to the class. His lectures are so interesting even even though i'm not a Political Science major. I wish I could have him again, this guy is honestly the best. P.S. Funniest dad jokes ever ;p jk If your reading this Professor Soha.
I had to take 3 exams in the class (25% each) and a workbook grade (25%). Which seems okay but since only 4 things make up my grade i just barely pulled an A with extra credit. Other than that (besides this one rude TA), the class is pretty good. Go to class because he gives out extra credit & class specific things are on the exams. Cool guy.
Loved this class. His lectures are energetic and he is very personable in his presentation style. Had helpful TAs. He doesn't require attendance, but you can get some extra credit and valuable information for the exam from his lectures. He doesn't make the textbook required but there is an online workbook that is worth 25% of your grade.
Gives clear, concise, organized lectures. Lecture materials are available on BB for further studying. Charismatic lecturer. 10/10 recommend.
I loved this guy. Class not mandatory, but in my opinion helps. Either way his slides are online. I rewrote that info and studied it. Passed, got all As on exam. 1 text book, online. Affordable. Around $90. Hwk, it was on the book. Can take up to as many times as needed to get 100. Pretty great guy, looks like Jack Frost from Santa Clause. TA -cute
Very enthusiastic and charismatic, good at explaining things. Recent/interesting topics come up often in class. Pros: - lets you drop lowest grade - All notes/slides are on bb for easy studying - online workbook is super cheap/easy to do Cons: - reviews are vague - mainly lecture based - only have 4 grades in gradebook - no extra credit
Dr. Eshbaugh-Soha is smart & very passionate. Theres a 4 pg book review worth 15% over Predicting the Presidency - easy & interesting read. An 8-10 pg final paper worth 25% examining the leadership of any president. Midterm and final are structured the same worth 25% ea. w 10 mult. choice, 3 short answer & an essay question. Attendance 10%.
Great professor, didn't particularly care for the topic of the class (the presidency) but I learned a lot. Can be a tough grader, is very specific about the research paper and book review guidelines, really funny too. Be attentive in class and don't be tardy; students who didn't pay attention, participate, and were late often had the worst grades.
Attendance isnt taken but I recommend going to class because there are some questions on the test that come straight from the lectures and not the book.
This guy makes basic political science so much harder than it has to be. I honestly wished I took PSCI 2305, this class did not have to be made so difficult. Dr. Matthew is a tough grader. He yearns for participation but does not require attendance. He really nitpicks the essays in the exams. Student beware: do not take this guy for this class.
This was one of the best classes I've taken. I knew nothing about political science before coming to this class as I am a transfer student from the UK. He makes lectures fun and has an upbeat personality, making it easy to listen to him and not get bored. He has so much passion when teaching which I appreciated. Just take notes and you will do well
Great guy! Always entertaining in class, but not in a way that hinders learning. Even in large lecture halls, he's very open to class discussion and students' ideas.
By test heavy, I mean that the tests are a huge percentage of the final grade. Also, attendance isn't mandatory, but he has questions on the test that are specific to lectures, so it only hurts you to not attend.
It's evident that Eshbaugh-Soha thinks very highly of himself. He's not very nice to his students and makes everything significantly tougher than it needs to be.
Overall, the UNT political science department is filled with professors who genuinely want you to succeed - and it's obvious that this professor does not fall within this description. He talks down to his students and makes them feel inferior in that we all have to reach to his level, when the class is mean to teach us, not stroke his ego...
Definitely one of my favorite professors I have had so far. There is very little workload, just make sure to go to class even though it isn't mandatory since the exams count for most of your grade. Gives good reviews for exams and no lockdown browser! 100% recommend, even if you hate political science, you will like his class.
He doesn't care about attendance just make sure you do all assignments on time. He's also friendly and replies to emails quick. Take if you can.
All exams were open-note and you don't actually have to attend class. Class is graded off of workbook assignments (there's a handful and they aren't all due until the end of the semester), one policy letter, and 3 exams. Even some of the questions based on stuff discussed in lectures are pretty simple to reason out.
Do NOT take this class if you want an A. He said in class, "It is nearly impossible to make above a 95". Not a professor for students looking to keep their GPA up.
I found him to be an informative professor who loves citing funny political anecdotes from campaigns in the early-mid 2000s. He's easy on the eyes and likes to expand on student input. Take good notes for exams and participate in class. Communicate with him outside class while writing papers.
Attendance isn't mandatory at all for his classes. Just make sure to show up to the exam dates since they are in person and on paper. I would say you should still show up for his classes as they have info that'll be on the test and you do have to pay for a 'textbook' that you do work assignments on and it is online, It's 20 dollars give or take!
Just make sure to show up to the exam dates since they're in person and on paper. I say you should still show up for his classes as they have info that'll be on the test and you do have to pay for a 'textbook' that you do work assignments on and it is online, It's 20 dollars give or take! Accidentally did the wrong course, ignore the one below.
He lectures from slides, occasionally getting off topic, so sometimes its hard to follow. He puts questions from the lecture on the exam. Exams count for 60% of your grade, but there is no final. One extra credit opportunity worth 1% of your grade. Quick to respond to emails and concerns. Make sure to study exam reviews and you will be fine.
His classes were pretty interesting. If you attend class you'll do great, but if you miss a couple you'll be fine.
I only went to three classes. I made an 83%. There are three tests that are in person. He gives a great outline of what will be on the test. I would just use the study guide and study everything the week before the test. I liked his lectures and he is interesting to listen to. Although, I just couldn't sit through an hour and a half lol
I have a love-hate relationship with this professor, I don't love his policies, grading, or the way he teaches sometimes. Time and time again I end up taking another one of his classes. His lectures and slides are insightful, the paper assignments are clear and doable, and the exams are easy if you study using the guide. A truly great professor.
This professor was amazing! I just finished the 5week session 1 course with him and it was incredible. While we had to buy online workbook, it wasn't bad considering the homework was included with it. All in all its a great course just a bit of busy work. 10/10 for the professor and 11/10 for his TA's. Always responsive and super understanding!
Professor Eshbaugh-Soha is very passionate about his course, making funny remarks about the current political climate. Class isn't mandatory but lecture is very helpful, all slides are provided on Canvas as well. In-person exams are held a few times but aren't very difficult as long as you understand the material.
Professor is engaging and lectures are worth attending, even if not mandatory. Exams are open-note and the main focus. Unstuck study and the textbook are great study aids. Overall, a manageable course if you keep up with the work.
pretty cool guy, only 3 tests and no cumulative final exam. we do have to buy a onine textbook but it also comes with the homework which is super easy, you also have to write a letter but its pretty easy and chill, Attendance is not mandatory and frankly most people never showed and still got 100's on tests. He didnt do extra credit.
He was a cool professor you could tell he really cared about teaching. His lectures were interesting and not too hard to understand. Only thing is to do good on exams you have to actually attend the lectures and by the middle of the course since attendance wasn't mandatory it was difficult to stay motivated to go. Advice I have is just go to class.
