Awesome teacher. Knows how to relate the information to the student. Willing to help in any aspect. Made a very boring class interesting. Kept us on our toes, but not unfair. Want to switch sections in Calc. to have him as a professor again!
he's hot and he's funny!

Dude plays a guitar. That's hot.
I love love love Matt. He made math fun; I mean I didn't even need the math credit but I wanted to take his class anyway!!

he's hot and has the best taste in music ever... and he's a good teacher. not a hard class
awesome teacher and very funny
I don't think I would have enjoyed the subject as much (if at all) if I hadn't had a teacher as fun as Mr. Fahy

Okay, I'm not gonna lie, Fahy is awesome! If you're just looking for an easy class to get by in, this might not be the right one for you, but if you want to laugh at a teacher who's actually funny and learn a lot (as long as you put some time into it), Fahy is perfect. I really enjoyed his class and I would recommend him to anyone!!!

great prof and fun in class
hE IS VERY FRIENDLY WITH STUDENTS ANDVERY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGABLE OF THE COURSEWORK.i RECOMMEND HIM FOR AN MATH CLASS
entertaining and clear
Hilarious. Tells fun stories but still gets the learning part across. Super nice guy
I hate math and Mr. Fahy made the class fun. However, he is very challenging on his test and quizzes.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I definately recommend him.
Matt is pretty much the awesomest math teacher ever. It is soooo easy to ask questions in his class and he totally makes sure everyone gets it. My favorite math teacher by far.
Fahy is awesome^_^ The class is pretty hard itself but he made it so easy.
great teacher. made it fun to learn
Great teacher. So funny, and random, but balances teaching and jokes/fun. Best math teacher i have ever had, I usually get terrible math teachers. Matt is funny, make fun of his chalk board tapping... Likes RadioHead and music in general.
Great teacher and absolutely hilarious!! Ha I go to class everyday, and ocassionally I'm late, and my seat in the front row will be taken! That is the mentalitly he brings to the class! Great!
I had Matt for Diff EQ and he is by far the best math professor I've ever had. I actually wanted to come to class everyday. I just wish I had him for an entire semester instead of just the summer term. He reminds me of Seth Rogen from knocked up and pineapple express haha and he is pretty hot in a math wiz/guitar playing kinda way :)
Matt has that wonderful duality of conveying knowledge very effectively but also being super fun and approachable. He definitely makes sure you are responsible for the class material, but doesn't overestimate your abilities with unduly difficult homeworks/tests. Great guy and amazing teacher overall.
I took his class as a hybrid class, and he was GREAT. He gives a lot of work, but it's necessary for a half-online class. He is great at explaining the concept and is very approachable. Fahy is always willing to help any student. He also has a really good sense of humor! Fantastic math teacher, I'd recommend him any day.
Absolutely great teacher, I feel bad for not showing up. SO helpful! Pay attention and do the homework, and it's an easy class. Super funny guy also, loved him!
He's the best teacher you could hope for. Easy going, but still teaches the material, and even makes it fun. He is the kind of teacher that wants nothing more than for his students to succeed and will go that extra mile to help them.
Matt Fahy was awesome! Calculus is an intimidating subject, but Fahy managed to take away almost all of the intimidation. He's extremely funny, and uses that to keep your attention during lectures. Weekly homeworks were easy points. The tests were challenging, but shouldn't be much trouble if you study and take good notes in class.
Fahy was the best professor I could have hoped for. He explains the material well while keeping your interest, and he is always willing to help. He moves through the material at a good pace, not too slow and not too fast. If you have a chance take Calc with him, you won't regrat it.
He is one of my best. Explains very well. He is very helpful. Knows his material very well. Very funny and has sense of humor. I'd recommend him any day.
Over the last 6 semester I have had 7 math classes. Fahy is honestly the first to really teach me, and keep me awake by being entertaining. Super fun.
Awesome teacher and will help with anything he can
Greatest math teacher I've ever had. I hate math and he made it so much fun. It also helps that he wrote the book used for the class so he knows everything in it.
Matthew was a great professor. I learned topics well and thoroughly. The quizzes were a pain for an 8am class. Tests could be tricky but if you attend class and study, not too bad
BEST PROFESSOR OUT THERE! He made math fun and easy to understand!
Fahy is the BEST math teacher I ever had! He knew how to engage the students well and is extremely helpful and funny. I needed extra help and he always had office hours available. I would strongly recommend taking his class. He wrote the course book so he truly understood it. Sign up, it'll be worth it!
Solid professor.
He really worked with me to the grade that I needed. He makes the class fun and entertaining on a boring subject.
Fahy is easily the best math teacher ive ever had. he's also probably one of the funniest people ive ever met. the only downfall of being in this class is a freshman is the fact that he really doesn't care if you're there or not, and theres no homework (yes, this is bad). be prepared to do a lot of out of class work to be ready for tests!
He is the BEST math teacher! I never liked math but I his classes where so fun!! I had this class at 8 in the morning yet I would not switch to any other math class just because of him. Highly RECOMMENDED! Best Math teacher out there!
Extremely easy class. You basically just have to show up, but Fahy is an excellent professor for this class. He is absolutely hilarious and engaging, and I learned a lot about careers in mathematics. I would definitely recommend taking him if you have the option.
Great teacher, knows how to engage students and is hilarious. One of the best math teachers I've ever had!
Attendance really isn't mandatory, but you should definitely show up. Fahy is a hilarious professor, who enjoys teaching, and getting to know his students. His class is very easy. Short homework assignment due weekly, perhaps a take home quiz, and a few problems online. Fahy is the best math professor I've had, and I would take a class of his again
Professor Fahy is an amazing lecturer. He doesn't take himself very seriously and he admits it when he makes a mistake. His lectures are very clear, but he expects the students to make their own assumptions and conclusions. It is not a traditional lecture. He is very helpful, so go to office hours if you don't understand something.
Professor Fahy was hands down the best math teacher I have ever had in my life. I struggle with Math and he made it possible for me to get an A. He works with the students and is hilarious. There are a couple projects but he will proofread them and give you feedback. Tests are not terrible.
Awesome professor! We named together when he found out I played the mandolin! He is an easy grader and explains in detail! NEVER skip class because you're always learning and everything will be on the tests!
Matthew Fahy is an awesome math teacher, he is hilarious and I am glad he was my first ever math teacher at NAU. He knows how to explain things so that they are interesting and make sense and lightens things up
Matthew is so funny during class, he has the best sense of humor! He makes sure every student knows what is going on and he has a very clear teaching style.
I hate math, but he made it very easy and clear and kind of fun. I started getting so good I could help my friends out. He's hilarious too, which definitely makes the class worthwhile.
Matt is one of the best professors I have ever had. I've never been a math person, but he's clear and patient, and it's not hard to do well. He's funny, engaging and makes sure everyone understands the material.
Matt is an awesome guy with a good sense of humor, which mad my 9 am class bearable this semester. Ive always hated math and this is the first semester I didn't spend crying while doing homework. He taught in a way that made sense and he was able to make it fun too. Definitely would recommend.
Fahy is awesome. Teaches everything perfectly and is easily the funniest professor I've had. Made linear algebra very easy to understand.
Matt is an excellent professor. My main critique is of the class structure; we're expected to attend class and 75 mins in the math lab. If you don't complete the full 75 minutes you don't get credit for that week's lab time whatsoever. If you do all the lab time, the book hw, WebWork, checkpoints, projects and you attend every class you'll be fine.
Go to class and take all the practice exams - you'll be able to pass with no issue. He's a funny and witty professor that does a wonderful job conceptualizing topics most struggle with. If you need a good professor, he's your man.
As the author of the MAT114 workbook, Matt is the best out there. He was hilarious and made math as interesting as it can be. I've heard some other MAT114 professors are awful, so definitely get Matt if you can.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR EVER!!! TAKE HIM IF YOU GET THE CHANCE YOU WON'T REGRET IT! EASIEST A OF MY LIFE.
Fahy is the funniest professor I've ever had. He made Linear Algebra super easy to understand. His tests are somewhat conceptual so make sure you understand more than just the computational aspect. His lectures make the material way more approachable. I would highly recommend Fahy! Take his class if you can!!
The absolute best math teacher I've had so far at NAU, he teaches in a semi-casual way while cracking jokes which make his lectures almost fun to an extent. I wish he taught more higher level classes so that I could take more of his courses
Fahy is honestly the best professor I have ever had for any course. He makes the content so easy to understand, and his lectures are fun to listen to. 10/10 everything, definitely take him for anything you can!!
Matt is one of the best professors at NAU he is hilarious and very humble. He approaches the material from the same viewpoint as a new student so it is easy to understand. If you have the chance defiantly recommend taking.
Awesome teacher! I took him for Statistics (STA 270) a few semesters ago. He is very caring and very helpful. The class itself was difficult, but he was very transparent so you knew exactly what was on the exams. We spent every class looking at baby birds growing up (even if it was just for a few minutes). Definitely recommend!!!
Matt is awesome. You could tell he loves his job Great communicator on tough tasks and he made math which is usually hard, simple. I woke up wanting to go to his class instead of dreading it Good office hours and was always willing to take time out of his busy day to make sure we understood the material. Good in class activities that kept us alert.
What a great teacher!!! He explains everything thoroughly and I was super prepared for his tests. I also love that he assigned the project earlier in the semester so we are not having to do the project along with other classes' projects and papers. I would highly recommend that you take him for MAT 226!
As a person who always struggled with math, this class was not hard. Matt was also a good teacher that helped when understanding subjects. There are weekly assignments and quizzes so make sure you're on top of it to not fall behind.
Professor Fahy is a great teacher. You can really tell he cares that everyone understands the math. You do have to keep up with your homework or it will pile up fast. Online I only had it once a week so it wasn't as interactive as I would have like but it was manageable especially with online NAU tutors.
Dr. Fahy is of the most articulate and conscientious professors I've had the pleasure of taking. He explains things so thoroughly in lectures that I rarely even had a question. Exams are exactly what you expect from doing homework and quizzes. He actually made diffeq seem easy. Would recommend.
Dude, Matt is hands down one of the best teachers in the math department. I would 100% recommend taking his class if you have the opportunity.
One of the best professors for MAT 316. Tried taking 316 many times but it seemed to hard. This prof made it super easy to understand and the test were open on a huge timeframe. His notes were super clear and awesome. Just do all the homework and go to office hours if you have questions.
Calc 2 is pretty tough and especially if you struggled in calc 1. He made it easier to understand and is one of the best in the NAU math department. He cares about his students understanding the material. Highly recommend Fahy to anyone with the chance to take one of his courses. Will definitely be taking the rest of mine with him.
If Fahy is teaching it, take it! No matter the class he is awesome and knows his stuff. Outstanding professor who makes lectures engaging and is extremely helpful. He wants to make sure you understand the material. Made Calc 2 feel less intimidating over the summer.
He is one of my favorite professors this semester. He does his best to answer any question you have, no matter how small or dumb you think it is, and he isn't judgemental about it. Genuinely cares about his students. Tests, attendance, and hw are extremely important. You have to do more than show up to get an A.
Take any class Matthew is teaching, he is amazing at teaching with easily understandable notes. His goes over half of the notes during class and you have the option to go back and look more carefully into them at home. All of the homework (outside of the web-work) relates to the class and exams.
I'll admit that Calculus II was a *lot* harder than Calculus I. It's a ton of random, disjointed topics shoved into a semester. However, Matt Fahy admits as much at the beginning of the year, and he prepares his students very well for the exams. He's funny, willing to answer questions, and knowledgeable. The homework is hard as nails, though.
Lots of pre-class stuff do do alongside the HW for credit, but it was extremely helpful for actually understanding what was going on. Lecture focused mostly on going over examples. I know plenty of people who took Dif. Eq. from other professors and struggled a lot with the content. Fahy covered it well.
He's super nice and really makes an effort to get to know his students. He's impossible to reach over email but has lots of office hours times. He gives a decent amount of extra credit and has a pretty good late policy. Overall, a good teacher and makes the difficult math very understandable.
A brilliant professor that made a difficult class a breeze. I barely passed MAT136 and was dreading 137. I ended up with one of the highest grades I've ever received and a newfound enjoyment for a dull subject. Exams are difficult but classes are almost exclusively examples and homework, while time-consuming, more than prepare you for the exams.
Amazing professor, he made the class interesting and he taught the material in a way that anyone could understand it if you just lend a ear. Funny during class and will answer questions thoroughly and very effectively. Test can be difficult so do study and make sure to do all the homework which will happen about twice a week.
Fahy knows how to make everyone in our class have a good laugh every day and makes lectures very engaging (he can communicate with us in a relatable and cool way). The flipped classroom works very well for me (watch videos/ take notes at home, then do practice problems and clarify concepts in class). 10/10 recommend
Fahy is a great professor bur you won't pass if you don't attend classes or study
Great pro
I loved Fahy! He is very funny and wants you to succeed. He did have a class attendance and participation category as you work a lot in groups on the problems he assigns. Some of these problems take a lot of time, so I would advise to not procrastinate on them since doing them all in one night is not fun. Show up to class and put in good effort!
Really cool guy, teaches really well. Always open to questions and help, lectures are fun. Tests are somewhat hard but very doable if you come well prepared. If you don't work don't expect to pass.
Amazing! Fahy is a GREAT professor. He tries to make a connection with every student, and is always encouraging visiting office hours if need be. His way of running MAT238 includes homework due three times a week and four tests throughout the semester, with a final on top of that. It's a lot of work and grinding, but he is always super helpful.
Fahy is an amazing professor, but MAT232 is not for the weak. Fahy's method of teaching includes two assignments every week but easily 6 hours of work if you procrastinate. There's also a few sporadic assignment throughout the semester. You will be grinding everyday for this class with him as your professor. Fahy's a funny and great guy though.
Great lectures, he does some harder WebWork problems in class if you ask. He knows everybody's name and explains things well. There were 4 exams, but they were manageable if you studied what he recommended. Sometimes completing the WebWorks was a little stressful, but the MAP room and office hours help.
The way Matt Fahy teaches, using a wacom tablet to write digitally on the lecture document, is a the most savvy and effective teaching style I have ever see. Linear algebra is kind of boring but he is super funny and good at keeping students engaged. One of my favorite teachers of all time
He teaches extremely effectively and is super funny. He also responded quickly when a medical emergency happened in class. I think attendance was too big a factor for the class, but I probably wouldn't have known the material as well if it wasn't.
Very funny and cool guy. Took him for two hard classes and got A in both. Very clear class structure and very clear on what will be on exams. Extremely helpful if you ask him questions after class or at office hours. Also helpful over email.
MATT FAHY IS THE GOAT. 🗣 🔥 Good availability and very clear in everything. Take him if you can get into his class!
BEST MATH PROFESSOR HE MAKES MATH ENJOYABLE
Math has always been my favorite subject, and Mr. Fahy just made it even better. I am always excited to go to his lectures, he always makes them fun and entertaining while still staying on topic! His office hours are also really good, he has a one on one with the student, and he always is there to help the student understand the concepts.
He's absolutely hilarious and teaches the material incredibly well. the class is hard but well worth the difficulty
Fahy is a great professor and makes difficult concepts extremely comprehensible and almost easy. Homework graded on completion which decreases a lot of the associated stress. Very clear expectations set for the course and for exam content so preparation is simple. Very very highly recommended, made me remember why I enjoy calculus so much.
FAHY IS THE BEST!!! He teaches in a way that is both engaging and helpful to my learning. If you can get him, I'd totally take as many of his classes as you can. He genuinely cares about mathematics and his students, and makes sure not to waste your time. Forge a good relationship with him and it'll pay off.
Fahy is an awesome calc professor! He explains the content really well, is funny, and gives plenty of partial credit on tests. There is homework 3 days a week with unlimited tries per question. As long as you show up to lectures and do the homework you will do well in this class.
