Get this teacher if you can. I learned a lot in both 1a and 1c. He's very clear and makes the course very interesting.

This guy was way cool. I took his class a few years back and he is still one of my favorites.

His class wasn't particularly easy, but has a lot to offer. I really enjoyed having him as a teacher

My favorite teacher at Cuesta College. All the material he goies over is very applicable to life and he's juat a fun, cool guy. The only thing is he's a tough grader; if you get a good grade then you'll earn it.

Very knowledgable when it comes to Poetry. I often wondered how such a young guy can be so well informed of the history and context of Poetry. Aside from his intellect, being younger than a lot of other English professors, he keeps things fun & even alludes to Post-Modern authors/musicians that the students can really relate to & enjoy (Eminem).

fleming is seriously one of the wisest people i have even encountered. he has knowledge about music art poetry people history EVERYTHING, and actually knows his stuff. he listens to really good music and always praises new and creative ideas. try and you will get an A. he's also such a cool guy and really cute! SOOO UNDERSTANDING... take this class

great teacher!! Isn't a easy pass, nor a too difficult, mainly up to student how much effor they want to put in. Class is very relaxed, teacher is funny, is one of my only classes I don't dread going to. Highly reccomend him to anyone and everyone, knows his job well and understands students well. Professor Fleming's class is more than about writing. He helps students see the world through critical thinking and makes seemingly boring topics interesting

Great Teacher!

Fleming is a good guy and makes class enjoyable to attend. Essay topics are easy to write about. Make sure you DO THE HOMEWORK and attend class, it will hurt your grade if you don't. He likes unorthodox work, hence it is a critical thinking class so think "outside the box" while you're writing your essays.

Great teacher! I love his lectures. He has great insight into class readings and assignments. This is my only class I actually enjoy going to. He challenges his students to break out of cliche forms of thinking and writing. I would take him again in a heartbeat.

I had already taken a critical thinking class but, I heard he was a good teacher. You actually look forward to going to class. Probably one of the best classes/ teachers I have had at Cuesta. Grades papers pretty tough but, he is extremely helpful during office hours. I would take this class if you need a critical thinking class.

Good dude. Very smart, sometimes he just rambles about his theories about stuff, very entertaining. Papers are hard but if u go to writing lab he pretty much tells u what to write. Good class.

This guy is young and super chill. We hardly did "english" type stuff in this class. He likes to have class discussions. I think we did 4, maybe 5 papers, two of them were research papers (easy), one was a creative expression paper, one was in class. All in all I would recommend him to anyone.

This professor is probably going to be the easiest 201A professor you're going to find and even then it was a hard class. Although, hard, it's also not impossible to pass. He grades somewhat lightly, he's willing to help you, and overall, I actually did have a fun time in his class and you will too! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR!

Flemming is a nice guy, English is not really my thing but this class wasn't bad at all. His "textbook" is just a pdf that you can have printed and bound for like $10 so that was a huge plus. Fair grader, just make sure you show up to class, he is big on attendance.

Best lit teacher. He is so funny and loves what he teaches. The projects are great and the homework isnt hard either. You deff need to go to class and pay attention. Make sure he knows who you are and that your paying attention. He is very willing to work with you. Highly recommend.

Took his hybrid critical thinking class,half online, simply amazing. Favorite teacher I've had so far, would definetely recommend you take him. Classes are interesting as hell and his lectures soared by, he will teach you to critically think.

Best english teacher I've ever had! I took him for english 201a my first semester in college and now I'm taking him again a year later in intro to poetry just because I loved his class so much. He makes every assignment super fun and gives great feedback. He'll do everything he can to make sure you get a great grade if you put in the effort too!

He is very funny and he keeps you engaged. Attendance is of course important but if you have to miss a day then let him know ahead of time if possible. The textbook was a downloadable file that we printed ourselves so it cost about $15 worth of supplies. There is a 10 page research paper at the end that is your final so prepare for that!!

Awesome teacher! Took the hybrid class and really enjoyed. He always made class fun and enjoyable to come to. Not an easy A that is for sure. He responds right away to e-mails though and gives you a clear description of what he expects!

I took Fleming's hybrid class, and I'm sure glad I did. He is an AWESOME teacher. He doesn't give the boring lectures, he uses a different, outside the box approach to teaching. Yeah, essays suck, but it's fun writing about internet memes and urban legends! He makes the class fun, and I learned a lot. HIGHLY recommend.

Wow What a wonderful proffesor I was so lucky to have Mr. Fleming this semester. What a blessing in disguise. I was terrified to take this class, seeing as I had already had attempted to take it and ended up withdrawing, howeevr he was much more helpful than my previous preffesor. He really cares about the well being of his students. He is awesome!

I took Fleming for three courses. He is an awesome professor I absolutley hated english before I took his classes, now I love it! His lectures were fun and he had great writing prompts. His classes are not easy but I still strongly recommend him. If you work hard and go to him for help you will get an A.

Really fun, awesome teacher! I don't think I've ever seen him not smiling. Respects students and students respect him. He makes the content easy to understand and fun to learn. Totally laid back and doesn't assign a ton of homework.

I took his online class and we had to meet once a week on campus. I liked this more because you were able to do everything on your own time but still got that in class experience. He was a wonderful teacher and had very interesting lectures. He is also young (in late 30's) so he is able to relate to new or hot topics of today. I recommend him!!

English is my second language and taking this class with him made my life easier! He is such an awesome professor, and I totally recommend to take English 201A & English 201C with him!

This was hands down one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. If you do the given assignments, pay attention, and come to class with an open mind, this will be a great semester. Professor Fleming is awesome! Took his hybrid Critical Thinking class and as long as you participate and study for his simple exams it is an easy A! He assigns 3 papers with interesting topics that are unlike other English classes and he is also a musician, so chili pepper that.

Fleming is awesome. What other professor lets you do an essay on an urban myth, a piece of art (which can be anything you want, a song, a recipe or food, anything) and a meme? Fleming is always my first choice when signing up for English classes and his 201C class did not disappoint. If you get the chance, take his hybrid course. No ragrets

Awesome amazing teacher! The class is a tough one and you definitely have to work for your grade, but nonetheless, the best college English class I've taken. This teacher is hilarious and so invested in his students that he goes to the extent of giving essay feedback through recorder! He's an awesome person and teacher. Take him!

Mr. Fleming has become one of my favorite teachers. Lots of group discussion which is much better than just sitting through a lecture. Most of all he wants everyone to pass his class and is willing to help every student do so. This was the first time I got an A in english that I can remember and I accredit most of that to Fleming

It helps to show up to class, but you don't have to. There is a lot of papers due in their class. I liked his teaching style.

Mr. Fleming is amazing, I took his 9 week course online and it was wonderful!!! He's very clear, he grades semi easy, he is funny, interesting and he actively participates in the course. There are forum posts every week, these are VITAL, if you not only participate but engage in intelligent discussion with the class you will get an easy A.

Fleming is the best! Hes super interactive with his students & explains the assignments thoroughly. I swear he is ALWAYS available to help you. He responds to messages very quickly! Hes an easy, yet fair grader. Do the assignments, and youll pass!

Extremely engaging with all assignments, he makes sure you knows what is expected and gives great feedback if you talk to him before paper is due to help improve your writing skills. I would highly recommend him.

I took his online class over the summer and was not disappointed. He was organized and had everything planned out. He was very flexible and helpful. There is some work but everything is doable. Wrote two essays but they both were on the same topic. Read one book. Had some daily discussions to do but the topics were really interesting. TAKE HIM!

I love Mr. Fleming! Enjoyed his online 201A over the summer and 201C for the fall ! Lots of writing every week to post on the forum and lot of HW, but the topics he chooses are really interesting and will improve your writing and develop critical thinking. Summer course is better deal since the amount of HW is same as the fall. He is the best!

Professor Fleming's DE 201A class has helped me so much in my writing and use of correct punctuation. I took the 9 week course and while it is a lot of work, you get out what you put it. With that being said, he is an excellent teacher and very good with feedback.

Professor Fleming is the bomb! Such a great Professor & human. Responsive, kind, and clear grading instructions. I knew exactly what I needed to do to get an A. I took both his 201C & 201A online. Both were amazing classes that challenged me and made me a better writer and thinker. He expects a lot but it's very achievable the way he spaces it out.

I took the 9 week English 201A distance ed course and I have to say Professor Fleming was one of the best online instructors I had. He was very understanding and helpful. I didn't put in my best efforts, but I know if I did I could have obtained an A in his class. Thank you Professor Fleming!

Best online prof I've ever had! Hes understanding, caring, and realistic; I love that he gives you his personal number so you can talk to him, it really humanizes the student/prof relationship. He cares more about the work you do than when you do it. Lots of discussions and homework, but it's not difficult if you keep up with it.

I took a class with Prof. Fleming Fall of 2020, I do not normally pass online classes but Prof. Fleming's class was structured so well I never felt confused or out of touch. Communication was fantastic, and really showed how smooth a class can be when a teacher puts as much time and enthusiasm in as Prof. Fleming has.

Professor Fleming was excellent! He is nice and understanding. The work is easy as long as you take the time to understand the material hes teaching or if you ask for help. Hes more than happy to help and even has a teacher's aid if more people need help. I couldve gotten an A if I tried harder, but I passed his class happy either way.

Professor Fleming was such a pleasure to be taught by. I've never done well learning remotely but I never felt his help or guidance was out of reach. I am planning on taking him again for Eng201C. He really is great instructor.

He spends a lot of time during lecture talking about himself, and he repeats his stories, but he's a solid professor, especially if you are already familiar with how to write essays. If not, don't take him. He doesn't really do the nuts and bolts of essays as much as he could. But he has a lot of energy and readings are generally easy and quick.

Matthew Fleming is an amazing teacher. I took the 8-week course as a senior in high school, and I loved it! All of the work was interesting, and there was no unnecessary busywork. He prioritizes discussions and improvement, and as long as you respond adequately and write the minimum amount of words, you'll achieve an A.

Fleming's class was fairly easy and straightforward. He always presented some sort of feedback on all assignments and was available almost always whenever you had a question. A few assignments and discussion posts, and only about 2 essays (I took over the summer, so might be different). Overall, great teacher that cares for his students.

I took this class over the summer to get it out of the way and I'm very glad that I did, Professor Fleming was a great professor who obviously cares about his students and takes the time to give lots of feedback and make himself available for questions. I feel like my writing developed a lot over the course and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Attendance was basically responding to discussion forums and doing the homework. Straightforward and fair professor, no busywork and always giving helpful feedback. Essays had clear instructions and graded fairly, professor truly cared for his students and their work. Took over the summer so might be different, still a great option for English.

I have had some health issues this past year and it has made my schoolwork much harder than usual. Professor Fleming is understanding and has been very helpful and kind. I have had many good professors at Cuesta but Fleming has been absolutely amazing. Such a kind genuine man who truly cares for his students and their health and well-beings.

Professor Fleming is an extremely knowledgeable professor and provides adequate resources to become a better critical thinker and writer. His class consists of weekly discussions and 2-200 point papers (3 for full term). Plus some small 5 point assignments. As long as you meet his requirements and due dates, you will do just fine. Highly recommend!

He assigns a lot of writing each week (around 600 words each week, sometimes more) but I took his accelerated online class so that kind of makes sense. Most of the grade is homework assignments and the two final essays. The homework is graded on effort too so it's not too bad. As long as you try you'll pass the class.
