Fair professor can tell if you try hard. Just review blackboard materials before tests, write down what happens in lecture, didnt do this but still got a A, practice the VBA when the 3rd test comes around, overall good professor
Prof Fried is a nice guy but he is extremely confusing and monotone. Our first exam was within the first two weeks of class and covered 9 chapters! Everything was based on what he talked about in class but he goes over everything so fast and its very hard to take notes on computer instructions.
Great professor and knowledgeable in excel. Study materials off blackboard before tests. Does not give a midterm on the second week of class. Would highly recommend taking CS 48 with.
He gives classmates review sheet before exam. Also, exam questions are MC,T/F.
If you plan to work in finance or the business world this class is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Fried is not exaggerating when he says you WILL need to know these excel skills. He provides you with a review sheet which is basically the test. The HW is great practice. Super nice & understanding guy and really smart! Wish we learned more shortcuts though!
Great teacher. Appreciates when you review you him so he can read his praises to his class. Always ready to help if you have any problems
This class is by no means easy, as learning to use excel is like learning a different language. However, he is extremely helpful and always there to answer questions. If you put in a solid effort, you will do well, and there is a pretty decent curve.
He goes so fast. Also you have to ask him if you did not understand . He does not care if you understand or not if you don not ask
Tests are fair, covering only material given in class. Tests will check your knowledge, review the textbook before the test and his informative review sheet! Start work on your final project early, to avoid later headaches... Don't stress about the lab test, they really aren't that bad and everything is on a curve. HW due every week takes 15 min.
The class moves very fast. Like, lightening fast. He's got a lot to cover in a short time so expect to teach yourself Excel. Read the book, DO THE HOMEWORK! DO THE PRACTICE WORK! Don't wait for him to tell you. If he's going to fast in class, interrupt him and ask him to slow down. He will stop and explain IF YOU ASK. His exams are subjective.
Prof Fried is GOOD. The lectures themselves are actually really boring - but that's just the nature of a computer class and lecture hall. However, the class is designed so that you really learn a lot if you do the hw, read the (green)book - and then there's a group project at the end which just helps you put everything together. Most useful course.
This class was no doubt extremely important because you will learn very useful and needed skills in excel that will be applied to your future career. With that said Professor Fried knows excel inside and out ,this guy is a pro. Go to Lab and learn as much as possible but lecture is a little slow. He is probably showing you this now...
I Loved Prof Fried. This was the first time I ever used excel. Sat in front of him in lablec payed close attention to him as it was like learning a new language. He is cool in every way possible. HW is a must to getting a decent grade for his class. Also, don't stress over this class, it comes with time. Thank you prof for a great experience!
I enjoyed prof fried and his class! He's always willing to answer any questions you have: in class or email. HW is a must, it'll help you in the long run. Excel isn't learned in a day, so pay attention in classlab! If you put in the effort, you'll do fine.
tests are easy. however, the projects he assigns are a real pain. you can get a good grade in this class by putting in effort, but its not really worth it. most classes need much less effort for an A. i recommend slacking off and settling for a C in this class. to much work for to little reward.
Amazing Professor. He teaches a lot of information but only because he wants to offer as much as he can. He curves well and dropped the lowest grade. He has a group project that can be a little challenging but he is very helpful. The class is also very practical I would recommend class even if not required since I learned so much.
He is one of the best Professors at Queens College. All exams are based on curve so just try your best. He is really helpful and always ready to answer your questions. You will learn a lot in his class. Just do all your homework it will bring your grade up. Also, there are two projects mini and big project which is little bit tough.
I put "tests are tough" in the tags because they are, but there is a major curve on it so don't be frightened of his exams. There is a lot of learning in this class.. but I barely went to class and still managed a B+. Doing all your homework gives a bump on your letter grade. Projects are difficult but with a group it's not hard at all. Recommend
He makes everyone aware that the class is fast and covers alot of material. He gives you every possibility to get an A. Two projects one mini one large and weekly homework. He's very considerate about the curve and is not setting you for failure. Totally recommend , great professor. If you go to LAB and pay attention youll do fine.
Not my cup of tea. Although the grades are curved, I would not take him again. Too much work to get an A.
I took Prof. Fried for 211 in the summer. I learned most of the syllabus from reading the textbook directly (which I HIGHLY recommend as it is an excellent book!). There was a midterm, final, and two projects, plus lab assigned homework. The final project was heavy but doable, as long as you put in the effort to learn the material on your own.
So Although I really enjoyed learning the useful things from Excel, it was frustrating with the assignments. The semester is practically over and we still haven't received any feedback about HW submitted the first week. How should I know if I am doing any of the assignments? Is the class hard? No. Will You have to work? Yes.
Step By Step even for those who dont have a knack for excel. You will learn a lot and its cool to see the many features beyond plain cells. There is a lot of work - Weekly HW, 3 Midterms (1 is Dropped) and like 2-3 Projects. No feedback on any work. But you will walk out knowing a lot.
Great teacher, wants students to be successful and learn the subject. Provides the opportunity to make that happen.
So Excel is really cool, Im so glad I took this class with Prof. Fried. There is a lot of work but it is so doable. He gives plenty of practice for exams-not sure why people called them hard. (Prob the easiest part of course) You need the book for assignments-but the library has it on Reserve. Take advantage, ask questions, there is a lot to learn.
Weekly HW that you can work on during lab. Gives you step by step instructions how to do them. It is a lot of work but very doable. 2 tests and HW questions count as a test (1 is dropped) + a final. Gives you a practice test and videos on his youtube channel to study for them. 1 Final group project that takes time but is doable. Labs are optional.
Professor Fried offers a lot of material on blackboard and youtube to help you. The homework and project are quite a bit of work but nothing unmanageable. Tests have a lot of questions but they're all curved. His review questions are helpful and he always goes over them in class. Overall I learned a lot in his class!
Tophat is used for homework and attendance. Homework must be done on excel. Prof gives good feedback and you can always ask for questions when you need help. Exams are curved, 3 exams (HW counts as one exam, lowest score is dropped) plus a final. The workload on the group project is doable, but requires A LOT of time. Class is always laidback.
Professor Fried is a nice funny man. However this class is 99% your own work. He makes it less painful but your still required to do a lot. Do yourself a favor and don't make the same mistake i did, make a friend and socialize. The project at the end is 100x less painful with a group of people. We used UDEMY instead of tophat
I learned so much from this class. He's a funny and caring guy. He explains the topic very well. He gives you plenty of resources for you to learn from. I just didn't like the homework and group project because it takes too much time. His exams are fair, just take good notes during lab and lecture and you'll be fine.
This class is 100% you have to work on yourself to learn Excel. Every homework has so many stuffs to do. There will be 2 Tests, one of the lowest grades will be dropped, Final exam and One Group Project. Test questions are kind of tricky but he goes over reviews before the day of Exam. Try pay attention on every class, it will be helpful at Exam.
First time I enjoyed learning CS. I love his videos for Java because he explains things simple and straight to the point. When it comes to coding he wants us to be CREATIVE. He showed us MANY different coding techniques to solve a problem. He is a very inspirational teacher because he taught us to be confident even though we are not from NYU lol.
Took his Java (212) class over the summer. He's a fine professor, provides plenty of outside resources including a lot of videos and practice quizzes on Udemy. His lectures just explain basic concepts most of the learning comes from working on the homework and projects. The tests were a mix of udemy style multiple choice and actual coding.
Took him in the summer for CS212 java. Dont regret for taking him in summer. U will learn in his class. Get ready to work on a lot of project and homework which makes u learn a lot. Very helpful outside the class and test are pretty fair. Keep up with the project and homework. Will definitely take him if he teaches any other classes. Got a B+
Very nice guy, there's just a lot you need to teach yourself outside of class by watching his videos and practicing on your own. There's a lot h tries t teach all at once which is difficult bc he goes very fast, but his tests aren't bad at all and he isnt a tough grader. You ed up learning valuable skills and come out with a decent grade
His lecture was helpful. But the exams were mediocre. The first exam had too many questions. Although there was a curve, he needs to be more realistic about time management. The Final was really unfair he gave all the question just from one chapter out of ten chapters that were assigned for the exam.
Don't take him if you wanna really want to learn CS220. He mostly focuses on induction and proves which we already learned in Math 120. He skips a lot of important CS220 topics. I believe Summer 2019 was the first time he was teaching CS220. Hopefully, he will change his teaching style in the future.
Do not take his class if you actually want to learn things in depth. This whole class, I had to complete his mammoth amount of homework and then release what I memorized onto paper. His Udemy course was 'optional' but somehow homework and reviews would end up on the course for paying students. People cheated around me and he did not take action.
Extremely lazy with posting homework. Considering the number of problems on the homework, he should give us at least 6-7 days to complete it. But, he will post the homework on Saturday morning and make it due Monday morning.
Great class. Need to spend lots of time studying if you're not great at math. Attendance not mandatory. Lots of HW, but enough time to do, if you care. Covered all the topics in syllabus. Exams not bad if you actually study. Half the class was pretty lazy.
Tests from HW. Video review online. Clear lecture. Lots of proofs for some topics. Overview of math topics in CS - breadth, not depth. Nice test curve. Tons of practice problems. Was summer, so fast.
All around a good professor. I took him in the summer so he rushed a lot at the end, which wasn't great, but before that he was very good. Explains clearly and gives a lot of practice. Tests are sometimes long but also pretty much the same as the hw. He doesn't check the hw, but do it anyways. I learnt a lot.
The tests are easy if you pay attention in class and look at the review materials. There is a LOT of work to this class. Weekly homework, 2 tests, 1 final, insanely long group project. Attendance is not required. There aren't many professors to choose from, so you just have to deal with it if you need this class. Effort required for an A
This is a hybrid class, so not only the student, but the professor has to be organized too. He has resources everywhere and it's rly hard to figure out what should be focused on each week (good drive, BB, udemy, youtube). He jumps all over his udemy account and it leaves everyone confused. I don't feel like I'm learning anything so far :(
the class was a hot mess, his slides and information are on like four different sites. He's always behind on grading and the exams are always longer than intended. Most of the class is confused because he makes a lot of mistakes on the things he assigns. He's a nice guy, but I don't recommend.
Class is not mandatory only if you are a self starter and can teach yourself. You have to be willing to spend HOURS on excel weekly for the homework and practice in order to get a good grasp on the material for the exams. The exams are curved but getting half of the questions wrong for an exam and getting a B just goes to show how lost some are.
Amazing professor, he curves a lot. if you put effort, you will get an A.
I took his Excel class for the 6wk summer session. He is a fair grader. We had live lectures online. During lectures he goes off topic very often and complains about QC, the government, politics etc. When he actually does teach, he's clear with the material. The tests were multiple choice and a little challenging, but he curves.
Wasn't bad, curves a lot in quizzes and exams and they were all really basic stuff. Lectures were good at the beginning but got into a rush at the end because there were way to many stuff to do in way too little time.
Was super clear. Very interesting. Lots of real world stuff. Projects intense but good.
Professor Fried is all over the place and makes this class boring. He does not explain topics well enough he rather tells us to look it up in his videos. He's very unorganized at everything he does. He makes me hate coding and CS in general by forcing his students to purchase his boring and useless udemy course.
Lots on the syllabus, lots of topics - but he made it interesting and manageable. Also learned how to code for real. Not easy, but good. Really cares and really clear. Wish he taught more.
whole new level of programming. pushed us to do more. very clear, patient.
Great professor, clearly knows his stuff. We had to get a udemy course but on there was almost everything you need for the class. He is pretty lenient with the grading, and the homework (group projects) are challenging but not impossible. I would say this course had a great balance for difficulty because of the way professor Fried ran things.
The professor is very boring. He will give three exams including final. His homework's are extremely long & if you come to class he will go off topic and talk about something else. He will tell students to watch the review before the exams but most of the time many questions are not even from the review, If you take this class you learn on your own
One of the best teachers at QC. If you can keep up with homework, quizzes and watch his Udemy videos, you will do fine. Also, if your are struggle, his curved will help you a lot.
A great professor in QC who genuinely cares about his students and trusts them. The exams and HW are reasonable and the overall structure of the class promotes learning, not weeding people out.
Professor Fried was a great Professor he cares about his students alot. His hw was not hard you just have to follow the instructions given each week on udemy. Tests can be a little confusing and hard so make sure to review. But Overall he was an amazing, caring Professor.
Pretty solid. Huge class so he won't delve deep into your work. You definitely learn important material. Get a good group for the projects and be on top of your HW. He curves nicely.
He was a great Professor. Weekly HW everything is on udemy so you dont even have to come to class. Tests are straight from review. He is an angel he curves like there is no tomrrow. God bless this man!
Taking this Professor for the short winter class and he is a really generous and pleasurable guy Ive ever have. Gives homework on Excel and Udemy, theres three tests and a project that would make you pass the class. Hes one of the best professors at Queens College and definitely for all of you to take in the future.
A REAL GEM,!!!!!!!!!
Amazing! Explains how to do each section of the homework on udemy and will always be glad to help you if you have trouble with the assignments. There were 3 exams all were curved and he gave a project which we could work on with a group. Overall, a great professor and you will really learn excel in depth. I highly recommend him!
Fried is a good computer science professor. He curves well so try your best but dont kill yourself, even he says dont spend 5 hours on homework submit what you can. Tests are straight from the review but the final is challenging
Professor Fried understands what he is teaching unlike some people, I took him this past summer for 212. If you are that type of person who cares and has time to do self studying for hours each day then take him, lab was 30% I had it with Nil Patel who is also awesome! But don't worry, at the end there is a big curve for the class so stay calm lol.
He's super friendly and a great lecturer, you'll learn a lot of cool stuff in this class. That being said he gives A TON of work even for a summer class. He assigns projects and hw's very often. Our last week was insane we had 3 projects due in 5 days. I wouldn't recommend taking him with another class (for summer) but besides that he's pretty good
At the last moment the curve was blessed, but you have to self study and don't expect him to teach everything. You have to do everything on your own.
Professor Fried is a gem not because he is easy or he gives few hws. He is awesome because he pushes you so hard that you want to cry but at the same time will bless you with his generous grading. If you want to learn take him. If you put the work in he will give you a good grade.
2 homework per week. 3 Tests are not hard as long as you study the review questions that given. The only challenging part is the group project, so having good teammates plays a big role in this group project.
Had him for 212 in the summer. The content is fast and not completely absorbable, especially near the end. The projects take a decent amount of work and the tests were hard but he curves generously. Taking bad CS professors makes me miss Fried. As always, if you want a job and not just a degree, you'll have to work a lot on your own.
WINTER CLASS: Exams are 50 mins with 75-125 mostly multichoice questions heavily curved. Give yourself 30-50 secs per question. Answer even if uncertain. Use Section 29 and quizzes to review. Many exam questions are taken from those. Group project may be done solo but will take 10-40 hours depending on ability. 12 HWs that take 1-2 hours each.
This class has ALOT of busy work which is very time consuming. Cons: Grades weirdly, his lectures are him speeding through the material, he randomly assigns more work last minute, his tests are way too long, and projects cover material way ahead of what is being taught. Would have higher rating if he did not do those things.
There's a lot of work involved, but attendance isn't required, don't go to class. The HWs take an hour or two for the week, study the review sections for exams (exams are curved), the project is a bit of work, but other than that, getting an A is not that difficult.
good professor!!!
An above average professor. He does assign lots of homework though, which in my case, being a summer class, was done twice a week. Each homework takes about 2-3hrs to complete. The exams are curved, not much to worry about as long as you study the review questions. The project is a mammoth, make sure you give yourself enough time to work on it.
BEST PROFESSOR! Worth taking him he cares about teaching students and HAVE A Hilarious sense of humor and not only that he is tech savvy so yes there is a project but he can help when asked and not only that there is a load of homework but are easy if you follow the video and do what it said to do very simple a straight forward andALLTEST are curve
This professor is absolutely out of his mind. The amount of work he gives is bizarre. Ppl have other classes, this is something he does not understand. So much material to (pretty much) self-study all of which is not even his own. Quiz once a week which expects you to know every little detail (he also gives very little time). Overall just avoid....
Easy class. 3 tests that are HEAVILY curved which is super nice since you're basically learning a whole new language. Weekly HW assignment which is super easy and quizzes at the end that you get to redo as many times as you want. The final group project is massive. I thought having a final test and project was a lot but still overall a good class.
This class has sooo much material. If you have other busy work classes I strongly suggest NOT to take this class that semester. Good thing is that you can study this yourself even if you can't attend lecture (I was put through bad circumstances at some point and still did really well on the final). Definitely study past quizzes and your mistakes!!!
Took Class this winter 2 and a half week course, put in a lot of work every day but was worth it. Nicest teacher, and he was very accommodating when I missed a test. I learnt a lot, which is the most important part. If you put in the work, you will be fine.
Everything was online. Attendance wasn't mandatory. He's very knowledgeable and we had HW each week. Just follow the video and takes you about 1-2hr. Study all the questions in the review and you'll do well in his class. The project took a lot of time to make sure to find a good group.
Be warned, he gives a lot of homework. It's fine until you get to the end of the semester and you're cramming to pass all your other finals but you have to do his homeworks, the final project, and study for his final exam all in the same week.
If you plan to take CS355 with Professor Fried, be warned that there is a LOT of busywork. Tons of zybooks homework due every week, quizzes every week as well. There are two projects you can do either by yourself or with others, which are fair. Three exams, study the quiz concepts and you should be fine. Less stressful than Law, but a lot of work.
I suggest taking this class as a Summer Four week class. The class size is much smaller compared to the regular semester, which allows him to be more individualized with his students. The workload is very manageable and the exams and the group project are fair if you watch the Udemy lesson and review vids. He curves so just do the work and pass.
I took CS48, one of the best professor out there if you want to learn MS.Excel. He use udemy where all of the videos are to help you with your homework. The udemy is the best thing you could buy tbh. Attendance isn't mandatory cuz I barely showed up to the class. Tests are online however the final is in-person multiple choices. Class was easy.
Learned lots not too hard. BUT the sheer amount of work he gave was overwhelming. Zybooks, 2 group projects, weekly "quizzes", exams with 150+ questions,+more not exaggerating. Nice guy, but we learned more self studying with that work than in lecture. Worked out in the end as he says "don't worry theres a curve", most ppl passed, with some effort.
Had him for lab in the winter. He's better taken during a regular semester when he's teaching as a lecturer. As a lab professor, he's was a bit underwhelming and distracted but always willing to answer any questions. He posted his past lectures and materials online which were very helpful. Overall would recommend.
He is a great Professor because he encourages asking lots of questions. You'll learn a lot in his class. Very tough grader with 80% being 2 tests and 20% the two projects. Grading standard is slightly lower due to difficult exams (no curve). Would recommend him but study thoroughly for the exams. Probably better during regular semester.
Great guy. Take his class
Fried doesn't expect you to show up for lecture because they are all prerecorded and very infromative. He curves exam grades based on the amount that you completed. overall i would highly recommend him for an easy credit.
Great professor, you should for sure take him. Assigns all the work and provides lots of videos so you don't need to attend class. Only attend if you have questions; tests are in person, but gives great test prep so test arent that bad. Tests are very long however be ready for 65 questions in roughly 50 min. Knows the material very well!
