AWESOME teacher
Great teacher. Very interested in making sure you understand what he's teaching. We tend to get behind a little bit because of tangents but they make the class more fun HAHA... He's always ready to explain something you don't understand for you. I would HIGHLY recommend him.
REALLY COOL TEACHER! I RECOMMEND HIM! I ABSENT LIKE 5 TIMES BUT STILL I GET AN "A" IN HIS CLASS. AS LONG AS YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK, TAKE NOTES, ORGANIZE YOUR BINDER, SHOW ALL UR STEPS ON TEST & HOMEWORK AND IMPORTANTLY TURN YOUR CELL PHONE OFF!YOU WON'T FALL ASLEEP IN HIS CLASS, AND HIS METHOD OF TEACHING IS JUST INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING :D
Matt's great! A little disorganized & scattered when it comes to lectures, but explains things wonderfully when he has the time. Always willing to help students and answer every question without making you feel like an idiot. I despise math, but I did extremely well because he made me WANT to do well. Highly motivating prof and gets the job done!
Matt is one of the best instructors I've ever taken. I won't take another math class unless he's teaching it. One thing I disliked was the binder, but that's easy to get over. His method of teaching math is amazing. I understood concepts that had scared the hell outta me. Totally take this man. He's fun and makes math interesting.
Im taking this class for winter and it moves at an EXTREMELY fast pace. However, he does a really great job at trying to make everything understandable. Since i took the 6 week course, texts and quizzes were weekly. He has a zest for learning and definetly isnt boring. cool guy.
really good
Bravo for Matt, he does his job well. You can tell he really has a passion for his teachings, unlike most of those dreaded ?monotonic? math professors. I recommend him if you have'nt taken a math class in awhile. He is just the right amount of challenging. Dorky sense of humor, but does well to stick the math in your head. Simply put: take his clas
I'm commenting on Prof Henes while the semester is .5 way over. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS TEACHER. I've always been in the lowest math, but because of Matt's teaching style, enthusiasm & over the top helpfulness, I get math. He makes it incredibly understandable! REPEAT: TAKE HIM! He knows a lot about EVERYTHING! You'll be super interested!!!
Matt is an AMAZING teacher! He crack jokes and makes little comments that are sometimes a little dorky and irrelevant but he will keep you interested and laughing! The binders are annoying at first but they keep you organized! Attend the classes or you'll get lost and do the homework or you'll fail tests, but that's the same with any math class!
Great enthusiasm for his class. Show up, turn in the homework on test days, and study the material for an easy A. Just never bring out your cell phone or he will be really pissed off. Seriously.
Mr.Henes is a great teacher! He has a passion for teaching and loves his work. He articules his lectures very clear that students can understand. He's patient and will go at pace of class. Also he's funny and you'll look forward to arriving to his class. Makes you organized your notes, but hates cell phones, will make you leave. Great class&teacher
Love his teaching method. He really wants his students to succeed.
Excellent teacher!!!Crystal clear!!Has various explanations handy when needed.Remember to turn your cell off!Do all homework assignments, incl. bios on mathematicians in history, which is very insightful & got me to understand that Math can be so much more than just dry.Not with Matt, that?s for sure!!I wouldn't be surprised if I get an A,definetly B.
i like him, he is hilarious and sexy. in an odd, quirky way...
This is the BEST math teacher ever especially if ure math skills aren't that great..He answers all questions until u get the problem and is always willing to hear u out...assigns some essays but they are not hard...Great sense of humor u wont ever fall asleep and ull like to attend his class..overall has a great passion for teachin..
Matt is a fantastic teacher. Very funny and very helpful. Will answer every question if one does actually spring up. He once brought up this website and how the internet shouldnt be really relied on, but he has such great reviews! Don't think twice about him. Great guy in general. You'll never get bored. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, take neat notes. <3

He is a relly nice guy, take him to get A.
Mr. Henes rocks! He creates a lot of special approaches to let you memorize the stuff. I'm so lucky to have his class! Don't wait, take it!!
By far, he's the most efficient and speedy and articulate professor that I have had. He prefers to cover more material, thus going at a much faster pace than other teachers. He explains everything that is need to understand each problem. Very professional all the way. If you are in school to excel, take him and you'll come out a pro at math.
b/c of my weakness i am not doing well in the class but his positive energy and comments made me not want to drop the class.he is very talented smart and HANDSOME!he is very clear.5 total exams 10-12 questions.whether your good in math or not take him b/c you will walk out of that class with confidence!his class is full of success and laughter!!
Matt is the BEST teacher at PCC hands down. As a teacher, he's so clear and his positive attitude makes math seem fun. As a person, I went through some difficult time in the semester and helped me out so much, I love him like a dad! I would recommend anyone to take him if your good at math or your not, he will make you understand math.
He is really nice guy, easy exams, easy final. His class is easy. It is easy to get A
Great Teacher! Always willing to help! Makes the class fun and interesting! Really a nice guy! Dont hesitate taking him! You will not regret taking his class! The reason the class is easy is because you actually learn the material because he makes it fun and interesting!!!
HE IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS THAT I HAD IN PCC. HE IS AMAZING CUZ HE TEACHES REALLY GOOD. I REALLY HIGHLY RECOMAND PPL TO TAKE HIS CLASS. U WILL LEARN AND GET A GOOD GRADE.
Great professor. Very clear instruction.
I'm taking it right now, in Fall. Class is not as easy as people said. You need to study and there are homework every leacture. You'll be fine if your math foundation is good. Not suggest for short semester though.
Excellent professor! Lectures the material with relative ease and flare. Tad eccentric, but I'm sure the best are. Take care to complete required work as his exams are pulled from the homework and the chapter review questions. Exams/quizzes are certainly doable, just don't tarry in your studies. Definitely easy on the eyes...
This guy pretty much "speaks your language". He'll teach in a way where you don't need to think of math as a foreign language. Plus he is a fun professor and he WILL help, all do is ask, easy? With that said, don't think of him as an easy teacher because like a typical college class you gotta work. If you're lazy don't think about taking this guy.
Worst math teacher ever!!!!
HE CANT TEACH !!!!!
I don't understand why those idiots would comment as such. It's an intersession! It's gonna be a lot of work! It should be hard! Just study and ask questions. Not much to it. Lectures are easy to follow, it's just that you can't be lazy.
He is a good teacher you wont be bored out of your mind, and you'll get everything because he does a good job of explaining how the work should be done. The only way you can fail is if you dont do any of the work or if you miss class :)
So, I came here with an A from Math 402. I thought I was fully prepared and ready for this class. NOT! He teaches to dang fast so I got lost a lot. He assigns every other odd problem in the text book but in reality you should be doing EVERY odd because he's test are mainly based on the ones you didnt practice enough on. Hard class!
awesome teacher he is very helpful and will go step by step if your confused i highly recommend him Ive taken 3 classes b4 this one and hes the one who made it so easy to understand got a B =)
AWESOME PROF!!! will enjoy his class, pay attention to lectures they go fast, and doesn't mind questions at all! Very entertaining and kind of a goof but that's what made the class enjoyable to me.
ok, he's good at teaching/explaining/and everything---BUT. BUT, only when he has a good mood. he's about 70% good mood. So, he is nice, but lil sensitive-(ex. he gets mad when no one answers his question, he doesn't consider what if students trying to digest the material-he just mad about it) It's not good when u wanna ask but he had a bad day.
Usually, he's a friendly teacher. However, if he's in a bad mood, you'll know it. Lately, he's been ramping up the difficulty on the quizzes and tests by throwing in problems we haven't seen in our HW. After most of the class fails, he'll go on a rant about us being lazy or dumb. I use to respect him, but now he's just plain unprofessional IMO.
I came to 125 with A but eventhough so many people told me that he is good.....he is NOT he had lots of abcenties during the semester and also he doesnt mid if you got the point or not he is gonna keep to teach and going to get mad if you ask question be carefullll don't take him you will regret 100%.So many people are failing in his class. LAZY
I feel like those other review are talking about a different teacher all together... I'm not so great when it comes to math but Henes was extremely helpful throughout the semester. He always answers question, even when we've gone over the same problem 30 times. He's entertaining, a bit dorky and very approachable. I highly recommend him!
awesome teacher! really gets deep into any topic offers you alot to think about, that actually relates to math. Only thing not clear on study guide for final. Def. recommend him if math is just one of those classes you dred taking!
Matt is a great teacher. He is very entertaining and makes math class fun! He is very understanding and very fair in grading. Sometimes he has his temper but tries his best to stay relaxed :) It might be personal, but the only thing annoyed me in his class was when he used inappropriate words. But Matt is great, I cant believe he is a Math teacher:
his tests set you up to fail.and gives tons of hw. he's not your friend, he's your instructor and he doesn't really care about you. that's not his job. if you're good at math go for it. if you struggle look for a teacher who doesn't try to stump his students.
Matt is basically the golden standard for math professors at PCC. He's entertaining, helpful, eager, competent, and HIGHLY approachable. If you failed him, it's because YOU DID NOT PASS THE TESTS, did you? You can't get an A without a few sleepless nights, kids. MyMathLab helped tremendously, as well. Take Matt, you won't regret it!
Matt is a good teacher. He's clear, helpful, kinda funny, and he knows his stuff. But apparently, if he's having a bad semester, he will put problems on the test that you have never seen before. I did well on everything but the tests for just this reason, and my grade suffered because of it. Roll the dice. Matt's good, but there are others.
HES ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I TOOK, ALTHOUGH HIS LECTURES GO TOO FAST AND YOU WOULD NEED TO KEEP UP WITH HOMEWORK OR ELSE YOU WONT GET A GOOD GRADE. I HAVE TO SAY ONE OF THE HOTTEST MEN EVER !
Amazing teacher, always in a great mood, energetic, and you can see his excitment when his class get the the material. However his lectures go way toooo fast. So if your not a math person you may have an issue with that. His tests are a bit tricky because his study guides aren't the greatest... thank god for outube videos.. lol take him...
Henes is the best Math teacher ever. If you have chance take him. Just pay attention to his lectures ask questions, and you will be fine. His tests aren't easy but its everything that he writes on the board.Even thought I am not a math person, but I enjoyed his class.
Matt is a good teacher, and breaks equations down easier. He has jokes and songs that will help you remember formulas, but his tests are very hard. I surprisingly got a B in the class after feeling like I had failed at life.
Very enthusiastic. He really enjoys math and teaching. He like to make jokes and brighten the mood of the class.
He is a great professor. His lectures are helpful and he makes them as interesting as possible through jokes and class participation. As long as you do all of the homework, you can pass the class. His tests can be challenging, but all you need to do is study the homework problems and you will do just fine. I strongly recommend this class.
He is the best teacher I have taken in PCC. Took him for calculus and he made everything extremely clear. Super helpful in office and very open to in class discussions and questions. Super funny and keeps you awake. If his class is open for a math you need, add him immediately, won't regret it. Not a single person in our class dropped.
Mr. Henes is a great teacher he strongly tries to help out all his students. His test are okay but if you truely study then you can pass the class with an A. Mr. Henes has a nice sence of humor I strongly do recommend him. Giving you a head up if you do study your homework and chapter test you'll be fine.
If you are really good at math, he gonna be very helpful. Very funny and nice person, tests are kind of hard, no extra credit. Work extremely hard and you will get A. Not recommend to take his class in short semester
Best 6 weeks of math ever! Professor Henes is a brainiac genius who will successfully teach you math, make sure you get it, explain it over and over again when you ask him to, and do it all with patience and a comedic wit fit for a comedy club. Funny, smart and extremely helpful. He truly cares about his students. Study hard and ask quest
Great guy. This guy is definitely passionate about math. He goes over everything multiple times, and answers any questions given, so if you cannot keep up, there is no one to blame but yourself.
Really good teacher made everything clear. Also helps with any questions you may have as far as what class to take next or overall life decisions.. he is also very funny loved his class gonna take as much math as i can with him.
Good professor. Moody, and tests are extremely hard. Don't think you're ready if you understand the homework or the quizzes. He never covers any problems that are of the same caliber as the ones on the test.
Such an Amazing Professor!!! He is very helpful, he cares about his students a lot. he will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material. His tests are a little hard and tricky so make sure you do your homework EVERY TIME!! I took him for mathpath and he does teach pretty fast but that is what I was expecting for a fast paced class.
Great at teaching, which a lot of teachers aren't. Good guy, funny guy, and class was never boring. He really wants his students to succeed and is passionate about math and actually made it interesting for non math people like me. Highly recommend!! I will miss his class!
Great math teacher. Funny, passionate. Shows you how math can be applied in the real world. Available in office hours, tries to help as much as he can. Overall a great teacher and cool guy. Do your hw, study for tests and pay attention. you should do fine
Matt teaches very well. I had him for Elementary Algebra and as easy as that subject may be, he taught it to me pretty well. He was nice enough to write me a letters of rec and he's always been very helpful in the classroom. If he's still around when you read this comment, try to get him as a teacher. I got an A and you can too if you put in work.
one of the best. i wish he taught all the higher level math. answers questions, explains well, funny, super high energy. can't say enough. super stoked on math, science and that attitude is infectious.
Grandpa Matt! This professor restored my hope in math and inspired many students, that if we put in the effort, we can succeed in math. If math isn;t your strength, Matt is your guy! He is great and grades fairly, but gets upset if you make fun of his age! :)
Very passionate and helpful. Personable and intelligent, well-rounded. He's also very dedicated to making sure students understand the material, and is thorough, quirky and comes up with unforgettable ways of learning. Also very sweet and charming. Very experienced not only in math, but in teaching. Take his math classes. Very enriching.
Matt is a great prof. I took him for mathpath and he was great. I took him again in the summer for 5a and he honestly sucked. he should stick to teaching lower math levels, he doesnt know what hes doing half of the time in calc and he skips a lot of stuff we need for 5b. great professor, just not for higher levels after 7a7b
He is interesting, motivating, challenges you & you can easily see that he likes his subject and teaching. He is not very formal or strict but maintains a good learning environment. He can be very enthusiastic.
Henes is a good teacher. Helpful, very funny, awesome attitude. He just has some problems. Late to class and sometimes doesn't show up, overly sensitive dramatic. He gets mad if you ever try to make a joke about him or if you ever don't agree with him. He get's very sensitive and starts getting pouty... Very annoying. Good teacher though haha
Henes is good at making concepts clear and really tries to make sure everyone understands. I'm not very good at math but I was doing well until the last tests. Seemed like the test material suddenly got a lot harder compared to the homework. If you're willing to work hard, this is the right class for you. If not, then look elsewhere.
A very good math teacher. Very clear. I took his class to prepare for the algebra portion of the DAT. Class was not boring either, although his jokes were very very weak. Was very helpful during office hours. Highly recommended. He tested what he taught. I will definitely look for his name for Math 125 and Math 3.
Henes teaches the course material with clarity and attends to students that need help with the material. His grading policies are fair and simple to comprehend. Overall, he provides a fun and interesting learning environment for students. Work and attendance is a must, as it should be with any other math course.
He's a very funny professor, but he's also very good. He made us laugh everyday. Very passionate in teaching math. Tests got a little bit harder and harder. Just do the HW. This class was not really hard, but it wasn't super easy. You'll pass if you work hard cuz this is college. I totally would recommend this professor :)
Had Math 450 with him for the extended spring aka summer session. The class was very fast paced, but there was a lot to fit into 6 weeks. Matt is pretty cool and has a fun attitude most days. Class is rarely boring and he keeps things interesting. The tests are pretty easy as long as you do the homework and go to class everyday. I missed one class and was a little lost for a second... Overall, I would recommend that you take his class. He's smart, a great instructor and has a fun sense of humor
If your not good at math stay clear of this one. He goes very fast and will leave the slow ones behind. All his lectures in class will not be on the test, he makes the test it very hard. I thing 85% of the class failed, or dropped out. Get another teacher.
This professor is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He obviously care about his students, is passionate about math, and keeps his class entertaining. He always takes time to explain or answer questions and has lots of office hours for students who struggle. Lectures straight from the book. Great teacher!
Loved Mr. H, a very good teacher, very personable. He is a very funny guy, and rather cool. He understands that things come up, and so long as you give him fair notice and it's not too extreme, he is accommodating. The class was fairly easy for me, not too much homework, the tests were all fairly easy. Just do your work, show up, and pay attention.
Schools need more teachers like Mr. Henes. He makes a great effort to communicate information in a digestible way. He has a passion for teaching and is an asset to the math department. If you have a chance to take him, do.
Took 5A with him. Honestly my fav. professor so far!!I like the way he teaches Calculus. Funny and healpful. He gives study guides before tests, but somethimes, the tests are not quite easy. Overall, he is still an awesome teacher! Take him if you dont wanna get bored in class! Highly recommend!
I've left high school for about five years, so I almost forgot every detail of math. Thanks to Professor H, the way he teaches is so great and hilarious that makes me forget how boring math is!! I've never got an A in math before, but now, I love math! If you follow his step and do his homework one by one, you will get a good grade!
His tests are easy. But I think most of students in the class have a lots struggles with test cause he doesn't teach much in class. Homework and work hard with the book. That s how I do to get a
He's really funny and did whatever it took for his students to get better grades. We retook an entire chapter test because most of the class didn't get it. He really loves his subject and his students.
He is a good professor, but goes way too fast and his exams are nothing compared to the homework. If you are good at math, you should be fine. But if you are one of those math people that need extra help, don't take him. He will leave you behind.
He tries so hard to be funny 70% of the time and gets a kick out of feeding his ego by testing you challenging exams. Sure, that's fine if he actually prepares you but he doesn't. If you can use the textbook to teach yourself (which I'm sure he expects you to), then why bother taking a math class that has a teacher that's supposed to teach?
He is suck. No extra credit, no curving, no drop lowest test. He is very moody and ruthless. Never help you to dump uo your grade even though you got 89%. Avoid him if possible.
worst teacher at PCC! jumps chapters, no extra-credit. takes of points for phone use. Goes off topic and talks about himself. His study guides are not helpfull for the tests. He also tricks you on the test with hard questions that you never even learn about. tons of HW and only 5 percent of your grade, no dropped tests. Final is 30 percent of grade
Pros: He will answer any question you have and most likely get the answer right, entertaining when teaching, Cons: Too much homework, homework is necessary yes, but he assigns a lot of questions that are not going to be on the test. The thing is you have to do all the questions because they are all fair game.
Students who rated him poorly, are students who did horrible or failed his class. His class is not easy! You must STUDY and work hard. However, he is one Amazing professor!! Funny and passionate. You will learn! You wont regret taking him! If you do not understand the material ask for HELP! Dont be scare! Very caring and a nice professor!
Mr. Henes is perhaps the best mathematics teacher I've had. He is one of those rare teachers who is able to maintain an atmosphere of humor in the class, while still winning the respect of his students. Lectures were evenly split between rigorous hw review, notes and problem solving practice. This class isn't easy but its 100 percent worth it.
As long as you show up on time and dont use your phone in class youre good. do all the hw he will drop 4 low hw scores. tests are like hw and he gives study guides. Hes easy going and easy to pass if you put effort in the class
Where should I start? He's amazing! You will have fun in class but you will learn! Yes, you will learn Math and you will love it. No, I'm not giving you guys false info. Lectures are crystal clear. Prof. Henes has a great personality, good sense of humor (which most PCC prof. lack on) You have to study, test can be hard. He is the BEST!
"He talks to teacher next door." -Matt Henes on Matt Henes Constantly throw markers into trash can. Everything we have to know for the class was written on the white board, step by step. Despite that he talked like he hate life, he is no doubt a good person. I don't need to, but I would take another class with him.
Henes is a strong math teacher, is very invested in teaching math, and makes sure students who are interested understand the material. There's a lot of homework, but it's a fair amount, he gives study guides for tests (be advised the tests are much harder!), his tests are tough. He's a little moody and particular, but he's a good guy at heart.
What can I say about this professor. He is a great professor mostly because he knows his materials and knows how to explain it. He is very humorous and does try to be in class as much as he can to teach his students. The tests would be easy if you study for them with the provided study guides; his study guides are similar to his tests.
Professor M Henes is not suck and he is good math. Very funny with silly jokes and study guides.
I got a D in both of his classes but it didn't make me dislike him, he taught me so much so. He does make the tests hard so you have to study a lot because if you don't you will fail :D
He is the type of people who does not really focus on examples. He always skip the steps. If you don't have a solid foundation of logical thinking. Don't take him
Passionate, knowledgable, entertaining, moody, difficult, and an unsympathetic grader. Class is tough; your grade is almost entirely reliant on the exams which are challenging to say the least. Homework makes up 5% of your grade. His study guides are not at all reflective of the difficulty of the exams. You will struggle to get a B. Good luck.
Not the class i would recommend to others. Has a persona that will not sit well with you. You must focus in this class and must must must listen to the lectures and read the book. Also please dont bring your cell phone because he will throw a fit.
Very easy 10 pts extra credit for every exam.
85% is an a in his class.....
Took Mr H for 7a and he was great. It is not easy to get an A in his class but be is very helpful. His exams are very very difficult because sometimes the problems will be super tricky. Overall good professor but don't expect to just get by he makes you work hard. And he isn't all that bad to look at which could get distracting if you ask me lol.
This guy raised the standards for what I describe as a "great professor." His sense of humor might not be for everyone but there are guaranteed at least three jokes a lecture, and he is so precise and clear during lectures! Why you gotta only teach below Calc 1 man, I loved this class. He made math fun and super interesting, TAKE HIS CLASS.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Lectures and notes are clear-cut. Gives great examples and provides study guides for tests with answers. Will post exam keys soon after everyone takes the test. Doesn't drop any tests, but drops 5 lowest homework assignments (10pts). Best part is he cracks jokes and wears awesome math-y graphic tees!
He takes the time to review the material if you don't understand it. If you're still stuck on a chapter or something, go to his office hours. Henes makes class fun. He's energetic and not monotonous. He has files prepared through canvas which is a great help. He doesn't push you to answer questions in class but he does expect you to pay attention.
Not help at all. Why bother taking him. Unless you know already the material, forget it, you will be on your own.
I took his class before but never got a chance to rate here. He is an amazing professor. Firstly, I love love his jokes. He made Math so much more fun. I never yawn in his class. Secondly, he's very precise and explains super well. Thirdly, he cares about his students. I love him!
Love the way he teaches and explains the material. I took his class for calc and feel like I really comprehended the lessons because of his teaching techniques. He could get a little sassy sometimes, but that's just his personality, he never means to upset anyone. Overall, he's a funny, helpful, nice, and well-educated teacher. Would recommend!
My first math professor. Henes knows his stuff. His lectures are very clear, and his tests are doable as long as you understand the homework he assigns. I would take his class again.
I got scared looking at the ratings for this teachers expecting this him to give difficult test. Turns out his test are very straight forward, he gives us a study guide 3-4 days before the test to study and 90 percent of it are in the test. Usually one question wouldn't be on the test but isn't impossible to answer. The class average is like 80%
He is really awesome. Btw, he's handsome and humorous. We did hmw online, the hmw scores were only 5% of the totall grade( maybe 5%, I can't remember. anyway it was very very low). The exams were extremely significant, so take care of exams. If you got average score like 95-100 at the end of semester, you probably will get an A.
Loved his class. Had the biggest crush on him (still do) since he's incredibly handsome and charming. But he knows his stuff! He will listen to you and answer your questions clearly. I learned so much from him, he's one of the best professors at PCC.
This professor is hilarious. His classes are full of jokes and he makes sure that each and every student understands the lesson. If I were you I would definitely take him !!
My favorite math professor so far! All of his lectures are done via iPad Pro while using One Note so he posts all of his lectures online for easy access. This doesn't mean that you can skip class. You must attend EVERY CLASS! I missed one class during the summer and I didn't get a grade that I wanted. Lectures are awesome, and super interactive! :)
Had to drop his class because I felt I wasn't leaning anything! All his lectures are done through youtube videos. Then you go to class to only work with other student who don't know what they are doing either. If you know you procrastinate than don't take this class. You have to be VERY VERY responsible because you are basically teaching yourself.
Cool professor, but everything is taught via YouTube which has its pros and cons. He's a very reasonable dude. However, he gets agitated easily when you don't understand what he's trying to explain. Other than that he's a funny guy. Currently taking his class and I'm still alive so he's doing a pretty good job.
He's really awesome and easy on the eyes! So helpful and I swear he explains everything so well. Make sure you do all the homework and take all the notes because that's what really helps you prepare for the tests.
Honestly, if you want to teach yourself, then this class is for you. All his lectures are on YouTube, which makes it very pointless to attend the class at all. He expects you to know everything after watching his video lectures once, then when you ask him questions, he gets easily agitated. Funny guy and very attractive, but not good at teaching.
10% homework and 90%exam (5 exams and 1 30%final exam) no drop. If you wanna get A, DO NOT take this class
He's awesome and funny. Give out studyguides before the test. Take him!!!!!
He is an amazing Professor! He's very funny and interacts with his students! I enjoyed his lectures. He makes his study guides as he makes his tests so you will have a good idea on how his tests will look. If you do the homework and pay attention, you have a good chance of getting an A!
funny guys, but if you wanna get A, do not take his class.
I took Henes for Math 5A over winter and he was a great teacher. His lessons included a lot of examples and his ecstatic personality made class enjoyable. He used an ipad to take notes and projected what he wrote on the board and then uploaded the notes on his website to look back on which was really helpful! Hope he teaches higher math levels!
My favorite professor I've ever taken. Lectures are youtube vids you watch at home and then he discusses and answers questions next class. He gives you time to do homework in class, so I rarely did homework at home. His tests are pretty easy and straightforward, they look exactly like his vid printout worksheets and the homework. And he's hot!
I took Professor Henes' class this spring and I really enjoyed it. He made a lot of dorky jokes, but I liked them because I have a dorky sense of humor and it made the math less boring. He assigns a lot of homework, but it's doable. Very caring and funny and overall a good teacher. Having the notes from the lecture online was really helpful also!
Do not waste your time! take this guy
He's amazing and really cares about what he's teaching. Sure everything is based off your exams, but he does a very good job at explaining things. He posts lectures online, and is willing to go over it again.
Professor Henes is probably the best math professor I've had thus far at PCC. He does a great job of explaining the material. Took him over the winter and it was manageable. HW is difficult sometimes but it's doable. Study guides that are true to test most of the time. Overall great class recommend 100% for math heavy majors.
He's brilliant, passionate, particular, entertaining, and just overall a great teacher. I highly recommend him. His lectures are very organized and he goes through everything that you need to know. I took him over winter and we were so ahead that on the last day we just reviewed for the final, which blew my mind. He's also very attractive & funny
He does lectures while drawing on his iPad. He gives clear explanations towards what he draws on the iPad. He gives concise answers to questions from students. His quizzes are based on the homework but they shouldn't be too hard as long as you do the homework.
Great, friendly, and cool teacher. Definitely made Calc easy to learn and understand. Took during intersession. Cannot reccomend enough, his teaching style is mostly of lecture and working out examples and in class discussions. Posts all of class notes online and has YouTube videos, as well as study guides that are identical to the test.
Hene's is a good professor, but he seems to skip a lot of steps. If your foundation in Trig and Algebra aren't too great, then you will struggle to keep up sometimes. He expects you to know a lot, but he will answer any questions. Gives a study guide that's close to tests for every test. 6 tests, no quizzes. %10 HW, %60 Tests, %30 Final.
I was good at math until I met him. idk why he has such a high rating. he literally assigns all the homework problems on the book for every section. he said "(the test) should have 50% of the question that everyone should answer ... and 1 or 2 questions that only a few are able to answer."
He is an okay teacher. Good enthusiasm, but you will be teaching yourself often. Gives one example for certain sections, and many for others which is not helpful. Cringe worthy humor. Needs to pay attention during tests, some kids were using graphing calculators. Like any calculus class, if you aren't ace at algebra, get ready to suffer.
He was the first math prof I took in college. He gives partial credit so getting an A is not hard. The only downside is that he does not offer extra credit or drop the lowest test so you have to make sure you study for each test. Homework counts for 10% of your overall grade, and usually requires a couple of hours to complete after each lecture.
He assigns a lot of homework, his tests are easier than the homework but he will deduct points if you do question in the way he didn't like. You have to get A for all the exam in order to get A in the class. If you did bad on one then you are done. I know he's funny and kind of good looking but honestly think this professor is overrated.
Prof Henes is a very good math professor. I only learned algebra within the past year and have ZERO background in math and was able to pass his class by staying on top of the homework and study guide problems which are a good representation of the tests. His lectures are clear and concise and the good bit of humor he uses keeps your attention.
Unfortunately oblivious of assigned HW quantity. Half an hour solving 1 problem, then gives you 30 of those. Class used Slader or chegg 80% of time to do HW, merely copying & understanding problems takes hours. Erratic behavior at times gets confusing. Electronic notes look like scribble and lecture very sub-par. Hopefully he improves w/ time.
Dr. Henes was open to answering questions that students have and prioritized the class' understanding of the subject above over getting through the lesson. He was respectable and polite, and made a great effort to explain things clearly. He was patient, witty, and approachable, making him an enjoyable teacher that I would love to take again.
I cant even count how many misteaks he makes in class during lecture, and when we make a tiny misteak on the test, youre already at a B. Study guides are not that similar to the test so beware. Sometimes they actually make not study material he puts on the test. Gives lots of HW. In lectures he doesnt explain and skips so many steps.
Honestly, he shouldn't be teaching 5B. He just isn't capable of teaching the tough topics, and spends alot of time stressing very easy concepts. He also makes a TON of mistakes in class, which he thinks helps students by seeing him struggle, but the fact is we are in there to develop an intuition about how to approach problems and he isn't helping.
He is a Very enthusiastic , makes mistakes during examples, but still gets through what will be on the next test. For some reason we only had almost 4hrs a week of class time, which meant that we regularly got "behind schedule" . Office hours are relaxed and extremely Helpful. That and the loads of HW (around 40 questions each) Is the worst of it
Not sure why he has a good rating. At least for 5B he doesnt really seem to know what hes doing. Makes a ton of mistakes during lecture but if you make a little mistake on the exam, youll get half off. Spends half the class with one problem and then assigns 30 of those that are due the next class. Study guides are almost nothing like the exam
Gives quite a bit of homework Understanding of student's situations, will work with you Provides study guides which mirror tests closely Makes you work for the A Exects a lot from his students Lectures are pretty clear Will help and answer questions when you ask
Professor Henes (pronounced "heh-ness") starts the semester with a very clear syllabus with an assignment schedule that, along with his very clear and often comical lectures, will keep you on track throughout the class. He also supplies study guides for each test that are fairly representative of the tests themselves. Enjoyable class overall.
Just study based on the study guide and do the homework. His humor makes most of my classmates pay attention. TAKE HIM BELIEVE ME!!!
An underrated professor from his 5B reviews. Does notes on iPad and uploads them to his site and Canvas after every class. Very friendly and is willing to understand your situation. Cracks a lot of jokes to keep the class engaged. Had a good time in his class considering it was an intersession course. Do homework as exams mimic the homework. GL!
Great guy. Cares about each of his students. If you work hard, youll get an A. Take notes during lecture. Make a study guide for each chapter.
Had Professor Henes for multiple classes, and was my favorite professor at PCC. He really goes out of his way to help students and make the material interesting to learn. Going to office hours and making sure you understand at least 90% of the study guide is the best way to get an A in the class. lect. vids +organic chemistry tutor on youtube help.
I thought Professor Hanes was very helpful and I consider myself lucky to have gotten him for my Summer Course in Calc 2. The other choices were very hard to understand and out of three other professors hes by far the easiest to understand. Very professional and great teaching style. Gives a lot of homework, but very good teacher.
Dr. Henes gives a lot of homework, it gets pretty ridiculous sometimes. He makes up for it by being flexible and kind to his students. I thought it was impossible to get an A in Calculus 2, but I was shown that math can be fun and doable if you put in the work.
Tons of homework and grades tough.
Took Maths 005B with Dr. Matt in Spring 2021- asynchronous class. Very helpful and understanding teacher, did not expect to do as well as I did, but it was easy to follow the structure and planning of the class. Do all the homework and you will learn the material and what is expected in exams.
Had Dr. Matt for Math 5B C. Got an A both times, dont regret taking him both times. His video lectures are helpful and concise. ExamsQuizzes are fair game. Hw is alot, but good practice. As a math major, it makes sense why he takes points off certain things(fyi other math profs will do the same, if not worse!). Accessible outside of class Take him!
350 characters is not enough to explain how bad of a teacher he is. Would give a 0 but ratemyprofessor requires at least a 1
your grade basically depends on exams, the hw does very little to your grade. I don't even know why he's allowed to teach 5B, he did very little to help the class. I never wore my seatbelt going home from work because I wanted to die before having to look at the homework he had assigned.
Where do I even start. This was probably the worst class I have taken at PCC. His lectures do a bad job at explaining the material so you have to look at other sources, not only that but, he is a VERY tough grader when it comes to the exam's. He'll tell you to use any method then proceed to criticize you for choosing that method. Don't take him!
I had Dr Matt for 5B&5C and idk why there are so many critical reviews of him. His lectures are SO helpful/detailed, & are BEAUTIFULLY color coded. As a math major, it makes sense why he takes points off for things (fyi other profs will do worse!) He creates a study guide for every exam. Watch lectures & do the hw, and you'll pass w/ flying colors.
I participated in his summer course this year and got more than 98% grades. I got full marks on most of his exams. He allowed us to read textbooks and use calculators during the exam. I only read the textbook and complete my homework through it. The exam itself is much simpler than the homework. The exam study guide is very related to the exam.
The dude barely teaches and antagonizes you for trying to reach out for help.
Dr. Henes is easily the best STEM teacher I've had at PCC. He truly cares about teaching and goes way beyond what's required. He responds very quickly to questions and will continue to engage with you until you understand. If you watch the lectures and do the reading, homework, and study guides, you'll get an A - exams are easy if you're prepared.
Less homework than other math profs I've taken & drops 5 lowest homework scores. Exams make up 75% of your grade (50% across 5 exams and 25% for the final), but exams are much easier than some other profs' exams & easier than the hw problems assigned. Average scores for exams were usually 90%+. Gives helpful study guides & lenient grader.
Honestly, this class isn't that hard. You need to focus on the homework because all the quizzes and tests are in the homework. He does give you tons of homework, but it too prepares you for the exams. Watch out for the final exam it's worth 25%. Overall not a bad professor, plus he curves your grade if you are at 89%.
I took Henes a while back, but I had to come here to give my thoughts. He is great. Multivariable Calculus is already a bit tough on its own, but Henes was great in teaching the subject. Please participate in class and ask questions. Participating in class makes time go by faster. Dont be shy. If youre wrong, he will help you find the right way.
Homework is through WebAssign, can be pretty long sometimes but the 5 lowest HW scores are dropped. Lectures cover all of the main concepts (homework may have slightly more difficult problems). Tests are easier than other professors I've taken, usually 70-80% average. No EC or corrections though. 5 Exams total. If you know calc you should be good.
The pinnacle of a math professor you can find. I've taken him for many courses: Differential equations, 5A, & 5B and enjoyed every topic he taught. Heavy on tests... yes, but he makes it very clear what needs to be done to succeed. Homework is expected by the reasonable amount needed to fully understand. Best math professor experience at PCC.
Tests reflective of study guides. Can be homework heavy (if required), but graded on completion and not correction for in person courses (WebAssign will grade based off correction). Lots of resources on his website + lecture notes posted on canvas. Fast grader with exams + provided feedback.
PRO: exams are pretty much exactly like the study guides, allow notecard for exam, go through a lot examples during lecture. CON: a lot of homework.
didn't do any hw and still got an A. Highly recommend reading his lecture notes, should be enough for exams.
Dr. Matt is a energetic professor in PCC. He cares about his students, he opens a lot office hours (it really helps me a lot when I got confused with my homework). Go over the study guide couple times, you will doing good on the exam. Don't be shy, if you have any questions, just go to his office hour!
Explained all the concepts during lecture very well. Exams were very reflective of notes and were easier than some of the homework problems. Only downside was the amount of problems per section, but grade breakdown was fair. The grade you get in his class is one you earned.
The amount of homework assigned is crazy in this class. He also gives exams pretty often & is very detailed on how he grades them. Sarcastic guy, visibly rolls his eyes at students when they come in late. Stopped class once to lecture us about coming on time to his class, which is unnecessary. We are in college. Majority of the class dropped.
Teaching needs improvement.
Dr. Matt is a great professor. Great lectures and he is funny and engaging. Lots of homework but it helps because you repeat the process to get the problems down. Tests are easier than homework, just don't overthink them. The only reason I struggled was b/c you need trig and algebra to succeed and I was rusty. If you put the work in you will pass.
DO NOT TAKE unless you already know a lot going into his class. I didn't have as strong of a math background as others in my class and I was completely lost. He expects you to know a ton of stuff and he builds upon that. His office hours are okay but the amount of homework he gives is outrageous. A majority of your week will be spent on homework.
Your grade is based on 6 tests ONLY, and they have less than 10 questions He says the hw is worth points but it does nothing to your grade. Only take his class if you already know all the material. . Sometimes he makes you feel inferior when asking questions. The amount of homework given per week is wild considering it does nothing to your grade.
This class was difficult, but Henes is very nice and friendly. There's a lot of homework, but it's pretty helpful to study. He doesn't give study guides, but reviewing lecture examples will prepare you for exams. Exams and the final make up most of your grade, but his lectures are great! I found his jokes funny but some might disagree.
Dr.Matt is a great professor. Majority of your grade comes from the exams and final, but if u do the homework it helps a lot in practicing. His tests are pretty fair and reflect the examples given in the lectures. He is also pretty funny and willing to help where u get stuck. Just make sure to show up and be ready on time.
Professor Henes is the GOAT. Although he does not offer extra credit, he prepares you very well for the exams during lecture. If you study enough, the exams will be very fair. They are very straight forward with no trick questions with lots of time. However, he gives out so much homework it takes at least 2 hours to complete them it's insane.
Professor Henes makes students that have hard time feel insecure. Some days his mood change drastically. Don't take his class unless you are really ready. He shifts the lecture system twice and didn't help at all. The second system, he made us do questions alone and will discuss it if we ask. After finding out it's not efficient, he shifted back.
Dr. Henes is a very smart guy. He assigns a lot of homework, which takes a lot of time but it ensures you actually learn the material. Tests weren't too hard, but not a cakewalk either. I would recommend taking him. Super fast grader too.
Gyattttttt!!!
Dr. Henes is great. He teaches clearly, is dedicated to his students, and is always willing to help. He listens to student feedback as well (and reduced HW load due to this) and his tests always reflect class lectures. Grading is always reasonable and I've never been upset or questioned my grades or felt surprised. Your grade reflects your mastery.
He gives students free grimace shake on the gyattt four by four sigma style!!! HE rizz it and let it mew!! That is how you get Rizz in his classes. Remember KID. Overall, amazing class. He teaches well and gets you prepared for exams. so yeah, just take him. OHIO!!!!!!
Took 55H. Lectures are super clear and does a great job of conveying all the concepts. There is some homework, but he is very understanding about how much he gives and deadlines. His tests are super representative of the problems done in class, and you will never be surprised by anything on the tests or final. Overall amazing class
He's a good teacher and explains concepts well. Assigns a lot of homework (from the textbook) but if you can do the homework, you'll do fine on the tests. Just make sure to come to class on time, he does not like when people are late.
Pretty funny and cool dude. I slept every day (7am) and he was still nice to me. Great lectures and notes. Focuses on learning > grades. Exams reflect hw and lectures. Quick grader. Gives detailed feedback. Honors project was pretty useful and didn't feel like a waste of time. Understanding and will do his best to help you succeed. Good advisor.
Professor Henes is one of the best math professors I have learned from. He conveys topics so clearly and writes with neat handwriting. His exams are similar to homework so if you do the homework you will be fine on the exams, he isn't trying to trick you. His lectures are so good that our 6 week class finished 5c in 5 weeks. Exam avg. was an A
Dr. Henes is great and very easy going, however, if you know nothing about linear algebra and attend his course, you will need to basically learn linear algebra yourself. I don't recommend anybody with 0 math background take this class since the material is extremely difficult to understand and you will most likely fail this class.
He's an ok-ish professor, but he definitely makes you feel insecure. Don't take his classes unless you're really ready. He expects you to learn all the material after each lesson, which only provides a few examples. Exams make up your grade and assigns HW that does nothing to it. Show up to class too - makes a fuss about it if people show up late.
Dr. Matt is a very knowledgeable professor who cares about learning over the grade. He bolds problems that can appear exam which makes studying easier. The exams are easier than the textbook's problems. If you do well on the homework, you are fine for the exams. This semester he decided to replace the lowest exam grade with the final exam's score.
Professor Henes might be tough, but honestly, he's really not bad at all. I took him for Linear Algebra, and the only tough part was the proofs, though that's because I am very bad at proofs. But there nothing really difficult about him. You genuinely learn a lot from him, I recommend taking his class when he's available.
Just know all the material before you go into his class. He doesnt have a softspot for students makes you feel like your always in the wrong.
Very fast grader. Median time is 12 hours. Will make snarky comments, will get frustrated, but will apologize after if he is wrong. Values objective truth over anything else. Will offer accomodations if warranted. Trick to get good grades is grinding problems using gpt until u get 3 right in a row. Had 76 halfway thru term, used gpt, ended with 84.
If you study the notes that Dr. Matt posts soon after class, the exams will be fair and not tricky. Dr. Matt also explains concepts thoroughly, and uses color-coding steps. The math project was not wasteful and did not take much time. He is a little picky with grading, but there is no absurd amount of algebra. Review below explains his attitude.
I took his 6 week summer course, so it was very fast paced. Used webassign to assign hw (6~ a week). The 4 exams and final are very very similar to what he teaches in class and on the hw (gave us a sample practice final). He is very passionate in what he teaches, but beware he's pretty cranky on time. He's generous tho, rounded my 89.2 to an A!
Set very clear expectations Math 055 summer 2025, so no surprises. HW takes very long but prepares you for tests so no surprises. Good tests on on what he teaches and what you need to learn.
(Hybrid class) Took because he good reviews, but this class was not well organized. Had to watch videos that took a long time but in class we would go over the same material. Found it to be a waste of time, would rather spend it doing HW and have him answer questions as I work through questions. Average on 2nd exam was a 60%, lot of people dropped.
hybrid course, cool guy. ~50 mins of videos per week and he doesn't give much homework but it is WAY more difficult than anything you'll see in class. did have to pay $75 or smthn for a webassign acc. tests are generally light. he can be strict in class if youre off task and how strict he is with grading is pretty inconsistent.
Didn't have the best experience, especially since I took the hybrid version of it. He changed the grading weights of the class midway and removed quizzes, which significantly changed my grade, but he's a great guy and knows what he is teaching. A lot of it is heavy on his videos and moves at a quick pace.
Great prof! Teaches great and is pretty organized. He's very fair, so whatever you're putting into the class is what you'll get.
