had him for western civilization. he is an awesome prof. he always cracks jokes and does not give out any homework except for one paper. so basically all you have to do for him is study for his tests because they are hard.

Yes, the format for the class takes the focus off of stressing about the work but most importantly, Dr.Jaffe does a great job on teaching it as well. I find it's a much more worthwhile class if a teacher can engage his students and have them enjoy the material, like he does so well. :)

Very good teacher just take lots of notes, you really do not need the books if you just pay attention and take really good notes, can't stress this enough. Also do not wait till the last moment to write Mid Term Paper. He makes the class fun. I never liked HIstory untill I took him.

This class was very easy just listen to the lectures and pay attention to the "laundry lists". Great guy who truly cares about his students. I recommend you take him.

Jaffe is the best teacher that I have ever had! He is inspiring and encouraging and very passionate about his job. He knows sooo much and is a great teacher because he is so well educated. He has a way about him, you just can't help but listen to him and be entertained. He has great teaching methods, interesting lectures and easy tests! Just show up, take some notes and enjoy the donuts! Oh, and don't buy the book for any of his classes, because you won't need it!

Honestly i was kind of dissappointed. I heard so many great things about him and i didnt see it. He bribes you with donuts thats kind of cool, but he wasnt my favorite teacher.There's no homework. Be ready to write one paper and the tests were pretty intense.

Kind of a funny little man, but probably the most concerned about student success of any professor I've ever had. Test are taken directly from lecture notes, and he lists which parts of notes are important before each class!

Jaffe is such a cool guy, sure I got a B in his class but that was because I was a dumbass, I didn't study for the tests and got D's on all of them. The paper was actually kinda easy. This guy's so into what he's teaching that his class seems to go by so fast.

Jaffe is great, he teaches with enthusiasm that helps anyone become interested. I hate history, but with Jaffe it comes alive. He has many little jokes that will make you grin and help you remember the subject. He's a fair grader.

Great teacher! This was his first year teaching 118, History of the U.S. West (1806-Present) and he makes the class really interesting. I used to hate history, but Jaffe makes it enjoyable. all the rumors are true--he's the coolest teacher on campus. donuts, jokes, and laughs make the class go by very fast. you don't really need the book, just take great notes and you'll be just fine. any questions, ask and he'll help out, he has no problem repeated info as many times as needed.

He writes the main topics on the board before each class which helps you to create your own study guide for the tests. You do need to study to pass them. Also assigns the "What if" project. Take good notes during lectures and study and you'll do well. I really think Dr. Jaffe's teaching style is great! He let's you know what will be covered and then covers it. It's up to you to study the info. Text is not completely necessary however it is a interesting read. I would take a class from him again absolutely.

This professor is awesome! He knows the material, knows how to teach it in an interesting and organized manner, and is reasonable. The class consists of 4 tests (drops lowest grade), and a term paper (which he allows you to be creative with). ANYONE NEEDING TO TAKE HISTORY COURSES, SHOULD TAKE HIM! There is nothing negative I could possibly say.

Jaffe is very friendly and sweet. He brings doughnuts and all tests get a big curve. He said the textbook was needed, but it wasn't. To get an A on all the tests, just come to class every day and take notes. Then study your notes and go to the textbook's website where they have sample quizzes and games according to each chapter.

Mr. Jaffe is a very silly man. Very nice and willing to help. Tells some very corny jokes so corny that they are actually funny. Class can be dull at times, expect the same thing everyday with maybe a small video here and there. Good teacher though and a very nice man.

An extremely sweet man. He is old fashioned when it comes to teaching but just show up to every class and take notes, study notes and you will pass the class with flying colors. This man always brings a smile on your face even if you are having a bad day.

This is my second history class with Dr. Jaffe! I took 104-HONORS, so the curriculum is a bit different. The book is needed for four short response papers. And, there are two take-home exams; which are papers. Dr. Jaffe is fantastic; one of the best teachers at AVC. He cares about his students very much. Take him if you need a history class!

Also took 105 a few years back. The sweetest man and most reverent teacher I've has the pleasure of taking. He deserves great respect based upon the recognition he has at this college. Lectures are fun, corny, and earnest. I would take any of his history classes in a heartbeat.

Dr. Jaffe is a nice professor, BUT he just stands in the front and lectures. He shows clips of movies (which is cool). He doesn't want you to be late, and you can't be late when taking tests. You'll have to write a 4-6 page paper (he gives options for presentation). He doesn't care about "involving" students during his lectures.

Overall, he's a great professor. I don't care much for History, but he tries his best to make the class interesting. He provides numerous alternatives to make the "term paper" a very simple project, and all around is a kindhearted and fun professor. If you need History and have a good registration date... Took his Honors option. Very straight forward, what he reviews in class is on the test. Grading is very lenient, as if you are borderline he'll raise you no doubt. Very funny and very passionate about his work.

If you have to take a history class, this man is the one to take. I disliked history before but he made me start to love it. You know exactly what is going to be on the tests so you feel confident. I've taken Dr. Jaffe a couple times now, and his class is always a fun experience. He is always perfectly clear, and as helpful as he can possibly be. His only fault is a very low self esteem. He often will talk about how everyone hates him, despite him being the uncontested favorite professor at AVC. You'd be foolish not to take him.

No matter how you try, it is very hard to hate this man. He's very generous, very helpful and very clear at explaining history. He tries his best to engage students and thinks about his student's well-being first. He's one of the best professors at AVC.

Best professor at AVC hands down! Straightforward on what is on the tests and such a kind man. He loves history and makes you love it too! Wouldn't take a history class without him!!!

Dr.Jaffe is clear and concise with his lectures. If you take his class serious and pay attention to his lectures, you will do fine. I reccommend not missing any classes because there is a lot of valuable information that pertains to your knowledge on the tests. Dr. Jaffe is THE most amazing History teacher at AVC. He is the epitome of professionalism, dedication, humility and straight-forwardness I have seen here. I have taken him for 3 classes now and also would not dream of taking a history class without him. His end of semester alternate history projects are easy. I don't like usc/ucla and got an "A".

He is quite possibly the best instructor you will ever have in college. His lectures are clear and concise and he doesn't make you memorize dates. All you have to do is take notes. There is a final paper but he lets you be creative. I did a video, and some classmates did posters instead. He genuinely cares about his students.

Prof. Jaffe is one of the best teachers I've ever had! He's a really nice guy, and he really cares about his students. Mr. Jaffe loves what he does which is what makes him such a great professor. He teaches you everything that is on the tests; so if you know your notes, the tests will be easy. There is no other phrase to use other than "There for You" when describing Dr. Jaffe. He is funny and insightful for non-history and history majors. His manicured lectures appeal to those interested in history and those who hate it. By no means is his classes boring. Both 118 and 108H were wonderful classes and I WILL take him again!

Probably the best or one of the best professors I've ever had. He loves his job and wants to see you succeed. Lectures always keep you interested and you'll look forward to going to class. Will take him again for sure.

Dr. Jaffe cares so much about his students. He really really tries to show that he wants them to succeed. He does tell some stories and does get sidetracked, but he makes up for that with his AMAZING lectures. I learned so much this semester, and I had never even liked history. I am so grateful to him.

I had him for another class and he was great. His lectures are funny but you must pay attention write a lot of notes it will help you for the tests. The project essay was really fun to do. He is a fair grader and explain what is happening each day. Have a good sense of humor and you'll be good.

Dr. Jaffe is a great instructor who'll answer and questions you have. In terms of his tests and term paper I found that he was a bit of a tough grader so take them seriously. He lectures mostly everything you need to know for his test and also gives lists that will help you do well on tests. Grading wise he grades everything on a curve.

I am an older student and found it helpful by sitting in the front of his class he is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. There are 4 exams he drops one of your lowest scores and one term paper that he will allow you to work on in groups .

The best history teacher. Be prepared to take lots of notes. Listen for his "laundry lists". DON"T USE YOUR CELL PHONE. I loved the film clips that went along with his lectures. I highly recommend Jaffe for history 108. I took him for the Spring and I can't tell you enough about what an honor it was to have taken him for Hist 108. Take him you won't regret it he is very fair when it comes to grading. Just listen and take careful notes especially laundry list and don't talk in his class be on time too and get an A.

Such a great teacher! His lectures are amazing he makes them very entertaining, he shows clips that relate exactly to the topic, he's very organized and very considerate of our opinion. He makes a lot off funny jokes. The topics stick to you if you pay attention. For the honors class participation is necessary but notes are not.

I absolutely LOVE Dr. Jaffe!! His lectures are fascinating and his transitions are smooth. He doesn't use power-point or write on the board, he just talks and covers all the key points as he goes. Great teacher. Lectures are the class, so always be there but he makes them interesting by adding videos, jokes, and stories. Class is basic and is similar to a world history class in high school. The tests themselves are easy so long as you remember the main facts, and the lists he talks about. The book is a study guide but not necessary.

He's great, but all his class is, is tests galore. So, if you're not a good test taker, I do not recommend taking his class. There's only like one hw assignment throughout the whole semester. He's really funny though, and is addicted to coffee.

Tests are TF, Multiply Choice and Explanations of words or phrases. 4 Tests 1 paper. Important things he gives a "Laundry List to you." What If Paper - can be map, movie, food, poem, doesn't have to be a paper.

Dr. Jaffe is an AMAZING professor! His lectures are interesting and clearly laid out. Your grade is made up of 5 tests and one term project, he drops your lowest test score. Just make sure to show up for the lectures, it matters a lot for the tests. He is very funny, class is never boring. His humor can be a little crude at times, but not too bad.

AMAZING teacher. one of the best Iv'e ever had. hes an older man, really nice and makes a lot of corny jokes. he gives 4 test and the final, and 1 essay. He gives his lectures as a story/facts and makes them interesting and really hooks you on them. make sure to take notes on his stories, the tests are based on just that, EASY A!

Amazing professor, took him for honors and class was mainly discussion based. He cares about his students a lot and he is funny. He is big on grammar and punctuation when grading papers.

I've been blessed with great instructors and Dr. Jaffe is definitely one of them. This guy is hilarious and not what you expect going in. The paper is easy and he saves it to be due towards the end of the semester (although I did take it over summer-- which is another reason you can't skip class; so much is covered). I really loved taking his class because he made history easy and the lectures were great. He makes a ton of jokes and makes you feel welcomed. Just do not go on your phone or talk and you will be on his good side. Make sure you show up to class because everything he talks about WILL be on the test and if you take good notes you can pass with an A.

Everything in his lecture is on the test. The book is a guide mostly for us but you never have to open it (do not buy the book, its free online). The class is lecture heavy and if you leave to use the restroom you will miss one test question. I would recommend making a class document where anyone can post their notes. He drops the lowest test.

jaffe is kind for the most part! he can become a bit defensive when his profession is questioned in the slightest even when people don't intend it to come out that way. provide him with respect and he should do the same towards you. he does a good job at going over material needed for the test in his lectures so pay attention! and take good notes!

Take notes of the lectures and videos! The slides only give bullet points but will not help you on the tests. About half of the questions on the test are fill in the blanks so you must study! Overall I enjoyed his class. It was not the easiest class but Dr Jaffe makes it fun with his goofiness. Be advised he is not very tech savvy.

PowerPoints are the main points covered, some key points for the test will be there but you need to be in class to take notes and have the material to study and get a good grade, otherwise you better read the text and know your stuff. Professor Jaffe is great , his lectures are the main part of the class to pass because everything in the lectures WILL be in the test. I suggest doing flash cards to memorize every topic and youll pass every test. He gives one project/paper to write. Textbook is usually online but isnt really used throughout the semester.

so this class turned online due to covid but we were graded on only 3 tests and one essay. he drops your lowest test and curves every test. so the zoom lectures were easy bc he added more info and obviously tests for open notes since we were at home. however before covid his lectures were funny and easy for tests. there's a book but didn't use it.

Jaffe cares about his students in the sense of if you ask any question he will truthfully answer, unless you ask something that is dumb. His test aren't hard, just know the material.

I took him during the fall semester while school was closed for covid and he was so understanding no matter what. besides reading assignments (which is like once a week) he does not give homework (he doesn't even make the reading mandatory, so). he mainly grades with exams, which he's very kind on while grading.

Go over the powerpoints and files he provides and be very, very detail orientated on the exams/paper, as he reviews and critiques them carefully.

Took Dr. Jaffe during peak quarantine and was Zoom only, however Dr. Jaffe was very knowledgeable with Zoom. Only 4 assignment the whole semester and the lowest score gets dropped. What a gem of a professor and a really nice individual. You can absolutely tell he loves his job. Always happy to teach and is very accessible to ask questions. The only work is 3 exams which are in the style of essay questions and 1 term paper which is not too hard to do.

Professor Jaffe is awesome. He is really funny and cares a lot about his students. I will say though his tests are hard because you don't know what is on them. As long as you read the textbook (I annotate it) and study the notes you'll typically be within the A to B range. He does grade on a curve if everyone else is failing.

He was so funny. I don't know how I passed to be honest, I thought I did really bad on some stuff and ended up getting a good grade. His PowerPoints are weird but with the book you will be okay, instructions are pretty clear.

He was very funny, and very sweet. His test have a lot of lists that you need to remember, but he grades on a huge curve so its pretty easy to do well. 5 tests in all including the final which is not comprehensive. Overall, he was a really nice guy and a very easy class.

You have to take 5 exams in-person, without notes. They're half multiple choice, half fill in the blank but there is a pretty solid curve. There is also a 3-5 page essay about alternative history. He takes off your lowest exam score and curves the final grade at the end of the semester. My only complaint is that he is not tech-savvy.

Honestly really enjoyed Professor Jaffe, the lectures were in-depth and informative with your occasional joke thrown in. There are about 5 quizzes and a term paper which heavily affect your grade in the class. As long as you stay on top of the lectures, study the PowerPoint slides, and work on your term paper on time you should be good!

Professor Jaffe is an amazing professor! I took him the Summer of 23 and did amazing with little effort. Just pay attention during his lectures, study for tests, and don't use your phone in class. This teacher has very dry humor which is amusing to me, he cracks jokes a lot and is very sarcastic, I find it hilarious. On the teaching side of things his lectures are a bit boring and it can be hard to pay attention, 4 tests decide your grade so make sure to do well. Understanding of a family issue, let me retake a test due to it.

Sweet guy but VERY lecture heavy, wish he would have switched it up since I met with him twice a week. Also, only had 5 assignments the whole semester which were all essays. He does give good feedback but he expects very RICH detailed essays.

I've taken two of his classes and passed both with an A compared to pass history classes where I barely pass with a C. I highly recommend his classes! He makes it easier to go to morning class with his humor and lecture style and his assignments are easy as long as you don't wait last minute. I missed classes occasionally and still pass with him.

He's very nice, easy grader, only 3-4 essays with no minimum word or page count total for the whole semester, he is funny and very easy to pass with a high grade even if you miss class often
