For several years, Econ 1 & 2 professors at UCR have not been so great. Thankfully Prof. Lang as a 1st time lecturer for Econ 2 was exceptional and provides so much practice for HW and in sections to understand the material. His lectures are straight to the point and he uses TopHat and MyEconLab. So go to class, put in the effort and you'll pass.

What an amazing professor, I am a second year and he is by far my fav so far. His engagement and kindness were very clear as he seemed to have memorized everyone's name... it was a 475 seat course in UNLH. Lectures were great, OH were helpful. Exams were like TopHat Q's

Professor Lang is a awesome human being. He is so down to earth and turns something completely boring as Stats into a meaningful exchange of ideas and concepts which actually makes you want to become a pro at the concepts. The it must be said his Exams are multiply choice(20 Qs) so you have to study to make sure you know the concepts to get points.

His lectures are really clear and give you a great understanding of the course material. Homework is easy and discussion sections are optional. His test questions are exactly like the Tophat review questions. Not coming to class isn't a big deal but it's a very easy class if you come in and pay attention.

Easy to follow and really slow lectures. A lot of participation points. Go to lecture and copy the notes; don't print them.

He requires you to pay for an online interactive lecture, which is mandatory for class participation. Great professor and teaches at a very good pace.

His lectures are really entertaining. He uploads all of his lecture notes and slides online, so even if you miss class, you're fine. Participation points are from the online TopHat website/app.

Professor Lang IS THE BEST! His hilarious, motivated, and helpful lectures and slides are so worth to listen to! Take notes if you must but they are all on iLearn, as well as the slides and everything. You really learn a lot just by listening to his active engagement with the class. Participation and in-class questions are from TopHat.

By far the best professor I have ever had! He is very clear about the material he is teaching and actually makes it interesting to learn about. He also writes and posts his notes online, which are super helpful sources of material to study for his exams.

Easy Class. makes you pay for topcoat, but replaces the price for a textbook. Posts everything on iLearn. Definitely hope to have him as a professor again.

He is probably one of my favorite professors! He caters well to your grade. If you didn't do well on a quiz or midterm, as long as you did better on the final he would adjust your grade! Tophat is a mandatory participation which is basically free points. We had 2 midterms, 2 quizzes, and a final but I did well without even reading the textbook!

Definitely a great professor. Very clear lecture and notes. Going to lecture is very helpful, because he explains things you need to know (graphs, concepts, etc). Ask questions and he will clarify everything for you. However, Econ as a subject is very difficult so you have to put in the work. For CNAS people, I recommend a different breadth class.

Go to class and PAY ATTENTION! Then you don't have to read the textbook bc ur notes are enuf for u to review everything. If u skip class or don't pay attention, READ THE TEXTBOOK! Everything in the textbook is pretty much what he lectures on (almost word for word). Prof is such a kind man. This class was an ez A and I don't even like econ!!

Professor Lang is the best! He really is passionate about economics. He is always coming into the lecture hall with enthusiasm and energy. He tries to get to know his students sitting in the front by remembering their names! Go to his office hours, they are very helpful for the quizzes,midterms, and final.

Professor Lang is an amazing professor. You could immediately tell that he is passionate in what he teaches. And as long as you go to the lectures, you'll basically get an A in the class, because he is really good at explaining all of the concepts. He is definitely a professor that wants you to succeed. SI Hours will help you the most, I didn't go to discussion section they were no help to me. Tophat is the only online textbook you need to purchase.

One of the best teachers I have had the pleasure to have, the class was fairly easy as long as you showed up and paid attention.

This was the hardest class I took at UCR. I studied my butt off and failed both midterms. I was in OH every time Professor Lang had them to get help. He generally cares & told me that if I passed the final, he'd weight the other tests lower. I studied so hard, went to OH and ended up getting an A on the final! But a B- overall in the course.

Professor Lang was one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures were super entertaining and his tests were very fair. He uses the online program TOPHAT for "clickers" but you only need a grade of 50% to get 100%.

The best professor I had all year. I never missed this class even when I missed all of the other ones I had that same day. Professor Lang really cares for his students and always has incentives to make us work harder to pass. The way he teaches makes the material so much easier to understand. Professor Lang truly cares about his students. His midterms are very fair however his final is difficult. But you only need 50% of top hat questions to get full credit. He wants his students to succeed and even gives a slight curve. I would recommend him if you want to learn and do well.

Great prof. Took APMacroEcon in high school and barely understood anything. Took this class and I can explain everything to you down to what makes consumption. His lectures are a lot of info but he explains everything very thoroughly. Wish he taught other subjects so I could take more of his classes! Textbook not mandatory, TopHat used.

He was a great professor and I never went to dicussion because it didn't help, but go to SI sessions. They help a lot to prepare you for the quizzes, midterms, and finals. Two quizzes, 5 questions each, two midterms, 25 questions, and one final, 50 questions. I ended with a B, you need to get As on the midterm and final to end with a A.

He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. All your notes are based on what he writes. All slides are available on TopHat that you will purchase. Take advantage of his office hours and SI sessions. Unless you can make graphs and charts on the laptop and can resist not surfing the web when you are in class take notes by hand it can help you.

Great professor and is always willing to help when you need it. Although he uses TopHat and posts lecture notes on ilearn, its important to actually be in lecture if you want to understand because he throughly explains the material. I wouldnt recommend using electronics cause he does graphs & tables. Go to SI Sessions if you need it, very helpful!!

Professor Lang is an excellent professor! He is very passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are great and are also easy to comprehend. He made his own online textbook for the course which was super helpful. The exams were very fair and straightforward. You have to put in some effort, but it was not super difficult to get an A.

But I like that he made his own textbook but lo and behold - you have to pay for that textbook on TopHat too. One of the best professors! His midterms were easy, so I ended up slacking when it came time to study for the final. Both quizzes are straight-forward: 5Q and MC based on the homework. Discussion and reading the optional textbook aren't necessary. Attend lectures to see him draw out graphs step-by-step and for participation. Study the homework!!!

Loved Lang's upbeat lectures and positivity. He has his own online textbook which you dont need to use, and has Tophat to boost your parti points. He knows his craft, super chill, no need for discussion attending however, he has lots of ilearn hw, lecture quizzes, 2 midterms and final and his tests are intentionally a little tricky but youll b fine

Lang made econ002 very understandable. Tests and quizzes are all based on the homework. All formulas are very easy and concepts are understandable. He uses top hat to take attendance. Going to lectures are very helpful he explains everything very clearly. A solid choice if you have never taken economics.

Lang is a super good and passionate teacher. Made econ really easy to understand. If you attend lecture he outlines everything that you need to know for the tests and quizzes. Re read notes and go over lecture slides for review and you will be just fine. Posts lecture slide and notes on TOPHAT. Uses tophat for participation but only need 50% for A

Professor Lang is really laid back and chill. Hes super interactive with the class, especially if youre in the first few rows, he gets to know your name and is open to questions. Hes passionate about what he teaches and takes the time to explains concepts, Econ is difficult but he helps a lot. Also has a very forgiving grading policy. Awesome!

This class was one of the most difficult classes I have taken at UCR, however professor Lang definitely had a way of making it the most interesting as well. Amazing professor who turkey inspires and motivates you. As long as you go to class and actually study before exams (READ PROBLEM SETS) youll pass the class.

Probably my favorite professor so far. Great at lectures, always super energetic and you can tell that he's very passionate about what he does. Got a B+ on the first midterm, B- on the second midterm and B+ on the final and ended with an A in the class.

Matthew Lang is probably the best professor I have had at UCR. There is no required textbook because his lectures cover EVERYTHING you need to know. There are 2 quizzes, 2 midterms and a Final. The quizzes are easy, however the Midterms are difficult. He does everything to make sure you get a high grader. Make sure you attend lecture!!!!

Have homework due every two weeks. 2 midterms and a final. He uses TopHat for participation. Lecture is where you use TopHat and get the participation points so go to class. Need a 51% on TopHat to get full credit. Overall, a good professor who cares about his students and their grades.

He's an amazing professor! Really nice and got noticed by Sean Evans on Twitter during Halloween XD. The lectures are really helpful and he's approachable during office hours. Tophat participation is required but discussions are optional. Homework due every 2 weeks but really easy because you can redo them. The exams are worth a lot for your grade.

Great Professor. 2 quizzes and 2 midterms. The higher-grade on the midterm will replace the lower grade in the quiz. Homework can be done multiple times which means easy points. He did very well in each lecture and really make sure everyone understands the material. Easy A if you do your job.

Honestly one or is the best professor at UCR. He is always energetic, engaging, playing music, and cracking jokes. Most importantly he makes everything digestible and relevant to the real world. HW is very straight forward and the quizes and finals exactly reflect the HW/Lectures. 10/10 recommend

Health Econ with Professor Lang was a very interesting class. 1 midterm 4 quizzes and 1 final. very easy if u have a great understanding in econ 104A but he tries his best to make sure that even if u took 104 a while ago you still understand how things work.

Prof Lang is awesome! Gives 8 quizzes but only top 4 are counted. Study for the 1 midterm/final with hw and quizzes. This professor is incredibly caring, has super fun lectures, and was very empathetic towards the current events taking place right now! Plz take him class, he made this quarter bearable!

One of the best professors at UCR, definitely take his class you won't regret it. He did everything he could to provide the best type of learning in this pandemic. He would play music and tried to be engaging with the class as well.

BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD IN RIV. So enthusiastic and makes learning not even feel like learning. This class is more fun than it is work and Matt is such an understanding prof. This class is honestly pretty common sense and he does not make things harder than what it is. Do what is asked (which isnt much) and you will be successful.

Matthew Lang is standout among professors. His explanations of topics is clear cut and his exams, while making up the majority of our grade, were never deceptive and always related to lectures/worksheets given. I only ever watched the lectures asynchronously and still felt like I wasn't missing out. MAN IS A GEM!

Matt Lang is the easiest professor I have taken up to now. He is without a doubt a good professor and anyone scared or worried need to drop that attitude and take him. You do have to study and watch lectures to get that A+ but, trying to just pass the class isn't hard. He curves, he drops the lowest test, come on man. You really shouldn't fail haha

Matt Lang is a great Professor! Very fun and energetic; he loves his job a lot so he’s there to help us rather than stress us out. Grading is lenient and is more than willing to curve as long as the concepts are grasped. Textbook was free on top hot because he made it. Overall, he’s an awesome Professor and cares for his students!

I came into this class not really expecting much but wowwwwwww I did not want it to end. Really good class, funny teacher, and he makes everything easy. Plus, he basically takes notes with you so you'll be able to tell what's important and what's not. This class was an easy and fun W. Straight-up.

Absolutely LOVED intro to macroeconomics & matthew. He made lectures enjoyable & interactive. He makes it easy to understand the material & would always explain further if anyone needed it. He even got us a discount for tophat since this course was all on tophat.

Matt Lang is great! His lecture notes were a bit messy and hard to follow personally. I wish he would've specified more what was considered "important" information as sometimes I felt he'd go off on tangents. This class is very easy to pass, but difficult to get an A in. Extremely easy class overall, and lectures are recorded.

Such an awesome professor, I am not a fan of Econ AT ALL and honestly the class was hard for me but Matt made it SO ENJOYABLE!!! He's very cool and extremely lenient and understanding, wish the class would have been in person!

Lang is by far one of the best professors I've had at UCR. He's very organized, his lectures are amazing + include music, and the grading structure is very fair. This is definitely a class anyone should take whether or not it is required for their major.

Really chill. Didn't try at all or study and got an A. Just make sure to pay attention to live or recorded lectures and do the lecture quizzes because they imitate the midterm/final. He lectures very well and engagingly. I got a 70 ish on the midterm but got 100 on everything else and a 94 on the final and got an A. Lots of leeway.

Overall, such an amazing professor! HIGHLY recommend taking this class. The only downside was that his exams were generally difficult (I slacked off because they were open note) but honestly, I feel like it was very fair due to how well he teaches. I would love to have him again as an upper division professor.

One of my favorite professors of all time. Going to lectures helps tremendously as the class is very lecture-heavy; likewise, it seems you are almost guaranteed to at least pass if you attend. He makes every attempt to learn people's names and is eager to answer any and every question. Would highly recommend. Outstanding professor.

As someone with little prior exposure to econ, I think Lang was a great professor to introduce me to the subject - he's lively, upbeat, passionate, and does his best to make lectures engaging. The class is designed for you to simply not fail, but that does not guarantee you an A. I certainly struggled to grasp concepts, and narrowly scraped an A-

Prof. Lang is pretty well-respected, very entertaining in class, and does his best to make econ lively. It's impossible to fail this course, but that also doesn't guarantee an A. Especially if you aren't familiar with econ, this class can be overwhelming. Though most stuff is online including the midterm and final, don't underestimate anything.

My favorite professor so far! He is incredibly kind and understanding, and always asks students how he can improve, or what they would like to learn more about. His lectures are fun and easy to follow along. He makes his notes clear and uploads his slides, handwritten notes, and summaries after each lecture. The class is easy and fun!!

Really nice guy who really loves what he does, great lectures and straight forward quizzes and exams

I enjoyed taking econ002 with him. He makes class interesting and I felt seen as a student because you can tell he enjoys what he does. There is a weekly quiz about the lecture, but reviewing the notes he posts makes it easy. Midterm and final are online too. Discussions arent mandatory, but there is an assignment due before the week starts.

Great professor, made lectures interesting and used good examples. Very low workload.

His class is super duper easy. No way you fail it unless you absolutely do nothing. His lectures are interesting and he cares about his students. His notes are very helpful and don't leave the studying till last minute. Weekly quizzes and the midterm and final are online. 100% take for a breadth course light work.

Matt transferred to UCSB this year, so you're at the right spot if you are looking for his classes for SB. Absolute chiller, cares a ton about students and will def work with you if you need help. Super clear lectures about confusing topics, humane tests, and also adds some helpful material for finance that you're gonna use in the future.

Upped my expectations for professors. 4 years and he's one out of two that did everything right. - caring - FASTTT grader & responder - 10/10 lecture on hard topics - useful material - humane curve - remember students by name - talks to students & gets to know them - did I say 10/10 lectures? - such a chiller TAKE HIS CLASS IF UR UCSB ECON
